Population: 700K (with most of the 20K temporary residents being San Montagnan Chathaese who have special permits to live there)
Number of Bahas: While it may seem like there are four baha, it is just one large baha
Important Clans: The Praja (Central Kirati)

Introduction - A Brief History

Shakti Khor - the city literally named "Powerful Cage". A "fortress city" built around a "really large moat". Laugh as you might at the Chathaese hangs for building this city; but you did do the same if you had enemies on all sides (almost all neighboring hangates and San Montagna). To understand the story of Shakti Khor, we first have to understand the story of the Hangate of Chatha.

The Hangate of Chatha is a political entity that no longer exists. It was quite large for a hangate in the Khas-Kirat Empire and even tried its hand at colonizing a few islands across the Isles (which is why it had so many enemies). To understand the story behind this particular hangate, we first have to understand the history of the Chepang people.

In mid-11th Century, the nomadic clans of Chathaese Steppe (11 Western Kirati and 1 Khas) rebelled against their Argean Ipachi Santhali overlords of the Greater Ipachi Hangate (not to be confused with the Great Ipachi Hangate). To put down this rebellion, the Santhali rulers invited Central Kirati clans with the promise of the abundant grazing land in the Chathaese Steppe in exchange for their service. This was how the Central Kirati clans came to call the Chathaese Steppe their home (and the people they defeated would go on to establish the Chhantyal Hangate in Townside; which exists to this day).

Aided by the Argean Ipachi Kusunda clan (who resented the Santhals and are known as the only group able to fiercely resist the Ancient Roendavarian colonization of Vendriothos), the Central Kiratis eventually rebelled as well. After winning their independence war against the Santhals, they invited a Mgar prince (who also happened to a cousin of the then Mahang) to become their ruler. This man renamed himself Chatha Hang. The Central Kiratis took the title of their ruler as the name of a new people and all clans were merged into one singular Praja ("Commoner" or "Common Man") clan to avoid potential clan wars that ravaged rest of Vendriothos. And thus, the Hangate of Chatha was born.

As time passed, the Hangate of Chatha engaged in many wars against neighboring hangates; but even more so, against San Montagna. However, Chatha and San Montagna would be friendly at times and even allied against other hangates on many occasions; with plenty of trade and marriages among both the nobility and the commoners (since all of the Chepangs are technically one big Praja clan, they do need to marry outsiders).

While the Imperial War (1941 - 1948) dented relations between the Chathaese and the San Montagnans, the two people became more closer than ever in the immediate aftermath. Chatha was, in fact, liberated mostly by San Montagnan armed forces; although some would say it became a San Montagnan Occupation Zone. Regardless, the Chathaese were treated much better by San Montagna liberators (or "occupiers") than what other Magaratis in other occupation zones had to face. Backed by Miklania and other power, San Montagna guaranteed the independence of Chatha. Despite this, the communist federation known as the People's Republic of Chuli (comprised of almost all Magarati hangates and Keomora), invaded Chatha in 1991 to "reclaim its integral territory". And so, the 30th Parallel War (1991 - 1994) took place between PRC and San Montagna (backed by Miklania and other TBDpowers). Though the result is technically considered a stalemate, it is evident that the San Montagnans gained more. They annexed as much of Chatha as they could. The communist federation was dismantled and replaced by the current Athara Magarati Federation of Hangates. Even more, the Magarati government was forced to divide Chatha into two parts in such a way that the people of Marubhumi Hangate would not be infuriated. However, in doing so and continually rejecting Chathaese calls for unification of the two Chathas in Magarat; the central Magarati government has infuriated and alienated the Chathaese people and politicians alike...which brings us to...

Current Situation

In November 2019, the 8 main Eastern Kirati Khumbuwani clans (collectively known as the Athpahariya Rai) declared their rebellion against the central government. The unexpected murder (or some would say assassination) of Jrm Hangma led the Divan-i-Magarati to hold snap elections that resulted in Rhula Hangma of Tamuwan being the new leader of Athara Magarati Federation of Hangates. Thebe Kulung Hang of Khumbuwan declared that he had "won the election" and the Athapahariya Rai supported his claims. The Khumbuwani rebels marched their armies into New Libang but were pushed back even before they could reach the Magarati capital. The fighting between the central government and the rebels took place in Khumbuwan.

In February 14, Thebe Kulung Hang and several other key rebel leaders loyal to him died when a missile carrying sarin gas struck Khotehang, the Khumbuwani capital. This attack resulted in estimated 80 deaths (with some sources putting the estimates in double the numbers). The Magarati government and its allies such as Noronica were quick to state that nefarious foreign powers provided a Khumbuwani clan rival to Thebe Kulung Hang's with the necessary materials and funds. The international media (in particular from the nations of San Montagna, Miklania and Aizcona), however, blamed the chemical attack on the Magarati government. Regardless, with the death of the only person that held the Khumbuwani clans together; the Khumbuwani rebellion fell apart and many were forced to seek cross the border and seek asylum in Central Canal Authority (CCA).

The Magarati government sent an ultimatum to the CCA to extradite "Khumbuwani terrorists". After the ultimatum was turned down, Athara Magarat and Noronica invaded the southern half of CCA while Alteran Republics and Segentova occupied its northern region. Magarati citizens, seeing this invasion carried out in the name of "combating terrorism", protested nation-wide against what they felt was the government returning the nation back to its "imperial ways".

On May 26th, a San Montagnan Chathaese man named Ram Praja was killed in a clan war (with the Maranyelis, the Ghontes and the Ghales on one side and the Bharinyals and other minor Tamu clans on the other side) erupted in Ghale Gaun, Second Tamuwan Hangate. The Chathaese, in both Magarati Chathas as well as in San Montagnan Chatha, became furious that the Maranyeli clansmen who killed Ram Praja were not brought to justice. The clan war in Ghale Gaun has now expanded to other cities in Second Tamuwan Hangate (but that is a different story).

Riding on the wave of the anger against the central government among the Chathaese, the anti-imperialist protests all over the federation and the fact that most of the Magarati army was busy occupying the CCA while the Armed Police Force is acting as peacekeepers in Tamuwan; Seta-ko Hang of Eastern Chatha and Cross Hang of Western Chatha declared their own rebellions against the central government (keep in mind that the Khumbuwani rebellion still has not ended).

Athara Magarat and her Noronnican allies were quick to blame San Montagna and Miklania for the Chathaese rebellion; just as they had alleged the CCA of funding and sheltering "Khumbuwani terrorists". However, they are not entirely wrong as San Montagna and Miklania have indeed politically backed the Chathaese "freedom fighters".

Chathaese insurgents allied with the Khumbuwani rebels. There are many different organizations of diverse ideologies fighting against the central government but New Libang collectively refers to them as Separatist Hordes of Chatha and Khumbuwan (SHOCK). In response to the death of Ram Praja, certain groups within SHOCK have been targeting Ghale Gaun Soda Factory plants across the Isles. Not just that, angry Chathaese mob vandalized Tamu-owned stores and other groups such as the Argean Ipachi Kusunda Clan of Shakti Khor (a sub-clan of the head clan in Sakhi) provided shelter to ethnic Tamus living in Shakti Khor. This further infuriated the Chathaese insurgents and they have now started ethnic cleansing of Shakti Khor by killing Tamus, Kusundas and other minority groups in the city. Shakti Khor is now engulfed in a multi-faction chaos and the worst part is that this is just the beginning.

Rules

  • Your character can be anyone staying temporarily in Shakti Khor (of the nearly 700K people in the city, roughly 20K are temporary residents) and caught in the middle of this multi-sided conflict. Perhaps you are foreign student studying here? Perhaps you are a tourist who happened to visit the wrong city at the wrong time? Perhaps you are a San Montaganan Chathaese (who are given special permits to live in the city) residing temporarily? Perhaps you are a reporter? Perhaps a foreign spy? Or maybe...perhaps a foreign volunteer there to help the "freedom fighters" in their struggle?
  • For now, you are allowed to RP as only one character. However, if your character dies, you may RP as another person.
  • Your goal will be to either survive in this chaos or flee the war-torn city.
  • I will be acting as the DM of sorts. I shall take control of the locals, the fauna and any kind of threats that your characters would face.

Alright! Just to solidify what AM and I have been talking about elsewhere, I will be a Brulafi biotechnology expert who's working with the local Praja Group to develop new drought-resistant GM crop seeds.
