While I do feel this is bound to irk a majority of Democrats, especially Progressives, I do also feel Biden would welcome Kasich's support. I believe the former Governor is still popular within his State though it remains to be seen whether he "endorses" Biden.
Kasich, a Republican, being welcomed with open arms to the Democratic convention is interesting and a bit offputting. Though far more off putting is the rumor that Kissinger is going to endorse Biden, horrendous man.
In the exercise of power in a two-party system, candidates take support "from the other side" where they can get it. There's a reason McCain put Joe Lieberman front in center in 2008 and Romney gave a speaking slot to... I forget the name of the one term house Democrat who flipped Republican after supporting Obama previously. By the same token, it's why Trump's bench of GOP luminaries in 2016 was pretty thin and a lot of has-beens like Guiliani -- people didn't want to get that close to him.
Provided that Biden continues to campaign on Democratic and left of center policies, people like Kasich are just window dressing for Republicans/center right voters who don't want to vote for Biden but have ruled out voting for Trump. It's cosmetic.
