Character Name: Vilna Korr; The Business Interest
"I really like your parks bill. But I think it needs a rider. Did you know that the issues of banking de-regulation and nature conservation are inherently intertwined? Here, allow me to explain further... ~Vilna Korr
Character Gender: Female
Character Age: 39
Character Position: Assemblywoman for the Western District
Appearance:
Party Affiliation: Dreyan First Party
Main Strengths:
Strong speaker: Vilna has been doing public speaking competitively or recreationally since secondary school.
Well Funded: Vilna represents large Dreyan business interests and banks primarily. They treat her well. She also uses her position to self-aggrandize and has thus assembled a respectable fortune for herself.
Economic Pulse: Her banking cohorts keep Vilna well-apprised of how the economy is doing. She may even know a few things that are not for public consumption per se.
Main Weaknesses:
Pushy: Confidence has its drawbacks...
With Friends Like These: Vilna's industrial and financial paymasters are brutal and controlling. If she alienates them she could endanger everything she has.
Kalerman Business Ties: You need to know people to do business in Kalerman as a Dreyan. It so happens, Vilna's associates do know those people. And they are vociferously against a hot war with Kalerman. Vilna's hands are tied on any issue of Kalerman escalation regardless of the optics.
Biography: Vilna Korr's career began in selling financial instruments on behalf of multiple banks that she represented. They made money in the booms, but they made even more in the crash. "Ethics", after all, was just the department next to Dreyan Resources. She got involved in local politics by successfully opposing the installation of a stop sign on her street. "If people want to raise their brats here, that's their problem." She said, "I don't want to be late for work." Her superiors eventually took note of her bizarre political acumen and decided to get her a seat in the Assembly to represent their interests exclusively. They couldn't have done it at a better time, because soon after the Kereians declared independence severing with them many lucrative business assets owned by her Dreya-bound employers.
"We don't care what you do. Use diplomacy. Use the navy. But get our property back."
Such terse communications, generally delivered in the shadowy back of a private air shuttle, were the staple of her political instructions from her overseers.
Political Ideology: None. No, really. She likes power and she likes money and her beliefs are the beliefs of the various industrialists, bankers, and tycoons that funded her thus far and she's not even attached to the DFP to do it. Therefore she currently wants:
-To regain the Kereian Belt (she is not concerned how and, if anything, diplomacy may be preferable)
-To avoid war with Kalerman
-To augment her own assets
-To pass regulation and de-regulation bills beneficial to her masters

Character Name: Methos Alexandris
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 44
Character Position: Assemblyman for a central (Western) district
Appearance: Athletic, sturdy man of about average height, bald (usually wearing a red bandana), short black beard, somewhat tan skin tone, brown cybernetic eyes, a Datajack above the right ear, a secondary one on the right arm just above the wrist.
Party Affiliation: People's Liberation party
Main Strengths: Stubbornness, intelligence, authenticity. Methos has build up a reputation of being honest and humble to a degree that is otherwise unheard of among politicians. Strong network of support both among the (poor) working class and the technophile academics. Despite his advanced age, he knows his way in the network and is in touch with hacker culture.
Main Weaknesses: Stubbornness, lack of savoir fair and lack of connections into the nobility and financial elite.
Biography: Methos was the first academic in a workers household. He had a Master in computer systems engineering at age 22. For 3 years he worked on augmented reality systems before dropping his job and making his personal side project his main profession: A net based distributed peer to peer application for media companies, information-verification and online learning. During the time he auto-didactically studied cybernetics but at age 28 he came to the point where he went back to university to get a second degree, this time in medicine with an cybernetics focus.
This was also the time where he got more and more political and met his wife Jessica. He joined the Progressive Party but his radical ideas kept him out of the inner circle of even the district-wide level. This did not matter a lot, as he was expelled from the party four years later anyway, after publicly exposing one of is fellow party members to own a media company through a strawmen company, which he used for personal propaganda (Technically he got expelled because, while procuring the information, he committed one act of trespassing and one act of data-theft. He even got a 18 month on-probation prison sentence for it (which given the fact that the stolen data had no monetary value was already significantly harsher then average for such a minor crime)). When interviewed by a local blogger about the affair he also mentioned that he does not usually lie, in fact couldn't remember the last time that he lied (- Which was not difficult, he was not usually asked anything important that made a lie compelling). This made the blogger lough out insisting that EVERY politician lied, which was common knowledge. Soon later, Methos developed his personal philosophy, of unconditional truthfulness.
The next year he joined a party of idealists who had similar leftist ideas but unlike them, he was not satisfied with a few local seats in the cities and regional assemblies in the caldron (a small area at the center of the continent where the west and the east mingle). He had the determination to make it into the assembly. By carefully monitoring the polls and demographics of all the districts, they found 3 districts in which the DLD had chances and in fact for the first time in the party's history, they managed to get one seat in the assembly with just 39% of the votes because the rest of the parties were too splintered between the other parties. This was five years ago and two years ago he was successfully reelected by his district and even got (2-5???) other seats for his party by coordinating with the rest of the left-leaning political landscape.
Political Ideology: He is straightforward about his visions for the planet and also his priorities, arguing that he does not have to agree on every topic with every other assemblyman from the party, as long as there is a fundamental compatibility. From the least to the most important point, his political stances are:
- Dissolution of the monarchy
- Establishment of a proportional-representational elected parliament and gradual transfer of all assembly-rights to this parliament because local winner-takes-all elections are undemocratic and outdated
- Freedom of information/transparent government.
- More power to the district governments
- Environmental responsibility: Technologies for ecosphere fixing have to be pursued and until this has been achieved, people have to act in an ecologically responsible way.
- Prohibition of monopolies and cartels: The free market needs to be protected from the companies trying to corner it.
- Collective press: The press as the fourth power is to important to be in the hands of either the government or rich individuals. Thus news agencies that are owned in share by all their employees must be sponsored.
- Military focus shift: In preparation of the main points, the military needs to stop building up an invasion fleet and shift its investments towards orbital defense platforms around Dreyan. It's by far the more cost-efficient defense and -more importantly- this would ease some of the tension with the Union and the Republic.
- Freedom of research: While it is clear that scientific research cannot be free from ALL constrains, the ethic fundamentals of judging which research is prohibited must be based in enlightened utilitarianism, not religious dogmas or unfounded fear.
- Companies of sufficient size need to be forced to sponsor works councils, regardless of whether or not their workers are unionized. The works councils may (and are encouraged to) coordinate with unions but are independent of them.
- Union empowerment: Unions need to be protected in every industry and service. Union fees need to be tax-deductible.
- Free healthcare and education
- Universal income/security of basic needs: Every person shall be given the means to live a humble life, able to afford food, housing and a simple household. If possible this should be established through an unconditional universal income, but if needed the government should encourage collective companies or provide local public companies for housing/water/electricity/net-access/etc. This will allow workers to work out of a sense of personal fulfillment, making them a hundredfold more productive then those who work out of fear for their livelihood.
- Peace through understanding: The Union and the Republic both have some very good points. Through enlightening ourselves, it will be possible to extract from them what is useful for us and ignore that which will not work for Dreyan. Through the adoption of common aspects, a basement for lasting peace can be build, which should be the main focus of foreign policy at this point.

Party Information Sheet
Party Name: People's Liberation Party
Ideology Summary: The PLP is a far left splinter party. It's sometimes considered a splinter of the Progressive Party (note: Might change if a more appropriate left mainstream is later created by someone or if Voxija rejects this), with which it coordinates splitting the districts in which each parties competes for an Assembly seat.
The PLP is very liberal, technophile and base-democratic. Surprisingly, their economic policy is rather moderate for an ultra-leftist party, focusing rather on enabling workers and unions to stand their ground against corporate rulership, then to establish a planned economy that redistributes the property. Thus the choice of the name: The party seeks to liberate the people from the wage-slavary.
The party's main strongholds are at the center where western urbanization and liberal attitude meets the eastern poverty and crowdedness. Especially in areas with a longer history of inter-ethnic tensions they do well. Further east, the party has little support due to their pro-technological stance and their lack of any stance on social issues. In the west on the other hand, the delta is not as striking and the PLP usually gets around 10-20% in local elections they participate in, occasionally even providing local mayors.

Interesting similarities.
For the South in Dreyan, I had in mind the Mediterranean countries. For East, a combination of ideas from East Asia, India and Eastern Europe.

The South in Voxija is also kind of Mediterranean. Well, the whole country is, as befits a country of colonized Basques. I thought of the Dreyan East as Africa and India, and of the Dreyan West as... East Asia. Your idea for the East is pretty literally East.
