I recommend listening to both these videos, but to sum it up in a nutshell; Tucker Carlson's co-writer was making some pretty severely (like, 4chan-level) bigoted posts online under a pseudonym. Without going too heavy into the specifics here, let's just say it isn't your run of the mill bigotry watered down for TV. This stuff is so out there Tucker went on hiatus. (Claiming it was for a vacation he already had planned, but the timing does seem a tad suspicious if that is the case.)

Now personally, I'm skeptical of the idea that one's online self is one's "real" self, if only for the discrepancy between the extreme frequency of online death threats and the (relatively) less frequent real-life murder rate. But here are still two aspects of this that are concerning independently of how much or little this person means of it:

1. Even if he doesn't mean it, someone influencing so many viewers shouldn't even pretend to think something that deranged.

2. If it's your face people are paying to see, and/or your voice people are paying to hear, then quite frankly, you should be writing your own material anyway. This whole thing reminds me of the Ron Paul ghostwriting controversy. It should be the person saying it who came up with it, if only for staying true to the spirit of "don't take credit for someone else's work," let alone for accountability.

Of course, even those concerns are somewhat diminished by their correlation with the "online self = true self" platitude, one I very strongly disagree with, so I'm not sure how valid said concerns are, in spite of all of the above reasoning.

Unironically when I read somebody accaused of "bigotry" or "racism" or "sexism" those days, then by now I am going to be, by default assumption, that they did write something based, rather than something really bad.

Because of the nagging question of who gets to determine shit from gold. Once society as a whole starts shouting people down and censoring them that inevitably leads to a very dark place.
So TLDR what works in interpersonal direct conversations (where your rule does and bloody well should apply) should not work on this scale because it has a potential to (and frankly if you look around has) turn society into a perpetual witch hunt.

Are the consequences going to be equal or more than that of just saying random shit that can at best cause someones feelings to be hurt? I ain't against calling an idiot an idiot when he deserves it. But internet witch hunts like this, especially against someone who was effectively doxed (his pseudonym was tracked to him) have the potential to do a lot more harm than hurt feelings. Which is why I am against them.

You're really hedging your bets on a giant slippery slope. It's not hard to determine when someone's a massive racist and homophobe, friend. I say this as someone who can also be edgy and use slurs myself; society not tolerating gigantic racists, fascists and their ilk holding prominence isn't the death of free speech or anything like that, it's the ostracizing of those who stand contrary to every ideal of a free society. Preventing (and not with legal, but social repercussions, mind you) the worst excesses of harassment, hatred and abuse allows for the genuine engagement of people who operate in good faith.

It's the same reason you cannot go on NSG and proclaim how you want to "gas the kikes". That shit won't roll here, and with good reason: you're not operating in good faith or any desire to contribute to public discourse, really. One would undermine the very principles of engaging in reasonable discussion in that scenario. If you're black and the public discourse is dominated by racists who would see you hanged, you're not going to come forward unless you're willing to risk yourself being harassed or worse. What do you actually hope to gain from society affording respect to people like Carlson's co-writer? Because it sure as shit isn't an improved public discourse.

Why do i see that society having alot of violence issues in the not so distant future? Ours already does and these days some folks (not enough but most folks) try to stand against racism in one way or another. Its funny though cause I have a feeling if he instead said "kill the white people," everyone who is saying "free speech" and "political correctness has gone too far" would be sharpening the pitch forks.
