However without Putin leaving office soon it brings up the question of what happens when he eventually passes away? Collapse? Civil War? And what effect will this vote have on Russia’s neighbors such as Ukraine who have been issues with Russia?

I heard he's actually looking for a heir in his governors (though that news must be rechecked again). They are still young, and the provinces are a pretty great place to test their capabilities and see how they fare. I mean, if he's going to stay until 2036, having an heir right now doesn't make any sense.

It is rather disappointing that this has come to pass, but not necessarily unsurprising. Russian culture naturally leans towards strongman figures and Vladimir Putin has thus far managed to appeal to that. I would rather Russia return to political limbo and infighting, it’s much easier to push down then. Here’s hoping London grows a spine to deal with the Bear.
