Well, that's going to lead to a wave of immigrants to sites like the Chans or Voat.

From what I heard from a friend The_Donald has been completely dead since late march after most of the mods were forcibly removed from power and Reddit approved Mods chosen to take their place, most of the users from the site migrated to their own forked version of Reddit that's just The_Donald.

So they nuked a dead board and called it a victory.

While I'm not a big fan of Reddit's policies (it's certainly not a website I would use for political discourse, for example, given its well-documented left-wing bias) I'm also not a fan of comparing things to the Nazis unless there is a serious reason to make the comparison.

Just as I'd roll my eyes at a left-winger calling Trump "literally Hitler", the same applies to calling Reddit et al Nazis (or "Reverse" Nazis). Such a comparison cheapens and fails to understand the magnitude of the atrocities that the Nazis committed and is a little bit offensive.

It is when your definition of hatespeech is carefully constructed to target certain groups.

I live in a Malay, Muslim-majority country. Does that mean I can be racist and bigoted toward Malays and Muslims now? I have a feeling the answer is NO, but blacks and Muslims in the West are free to be as bigoted and disgusting as they wish to Jews and white people..

Everything turns on how the Admin subjectively defines the concept of "marginalised and vulnerable groups", which are not okay to criticise in any way, compared to the so-called "majority" (I assume they don't mean numerical majority but the academic concept of a 'social majority' here, really isn't clear), but this is a distinction rife with debate and contention. Its impossible to know in advance what does or does not constitute 'hate speech'.

I didn't realise all Nazi Germany did was change some rules that bans discrimination against all but a fairly loosely defined majority.

Though to make an actual point beyond "a Nazi Germany comparison is stupid", the rule should've protected people in the majority from genuine discrimination, harassment, bullying etc.

YouTube, Twitch, Twitter and Facebook have had and are currently doing censorship (YouTube Adpocalypse 3.0, shadowbanning, mass bans + Twitch's #MeToo wave and random bans being handed out to streamers and "DMCA" strikes galore on both ends, as well as an apparently live DMCA strike system in the works for Twitch according to one of their higher level employees.) So....why're we mad about Reddit only? It's also important to note it's a privately owned site, and it is under no obligation to make sense to you, much like the universe.

Well, like Bear and I are discussing, it isn't purely Reddit. These large tech giants tend to do what they want with little consequence, like most prominently and recently, YouTube and Twitch. This Reddit blip is barely worthy of being on the radar, but I don't want to derail the thread topic too badly.

It's just stupid that people can only see this issue within the context of Trump. But Trump isn't going to be president forever. One day, he'll be gone. Is Twitter going to give up its power to push an ideology? Is YouTube going to cut back on censorship? The precedent has already been set that these tech companies basically tell the government to suck their dicks. It's only going to get worse.

It's not much a problem with reddit, but it's particularly egregious when it comes to YouTube and search engines

I wish they didn't get rid of CTH (I liked them), but considering the other vile cesspools that went with it I still think this is something of a positive.

Considering that I don't use Reddit much anyways, none of it really bothers me but I'm glad some of these places are gone.

Well you see, the issue with these bans is a lot of times they don't -tell- why people got banned or give some bland blanket statement that doesn't really solve anything but somehow brings up more questions.
