[DRAFT #2-ish] Condemn Auralia (the nation)

Postby Tinhampton » Sun Jun 28, 2020 9:43 pm

Character count: 4,991
Word count: 743
If we can Commend Sionis Prioratus for writing four GA resolutions, then we can Condemn Auralia for writing 23 GA resolutions. OK?

IMPORTANT: I happily voted in favour of UM's Commendation proposal when it got to vote last summer. While I do believe that Auralia is worthy of Commendation, many voters (by no means all ;P) believe that his other achievements are outweighed mostly by the Afrasiab scandal. This should be much less relevant now but it does apparently remove any hope that he can be Commended; hence the below.
Image
Condemn Auralia
A resolution to express shock and dismay at a nation or region.
Category: Condemnation
Nominee (nation): Auralia
Proposed by: Tinhampton

THE SECURITY COUNCIL:

REMINDING every ambassador voting on this resolution that the General Assembly's more than 600 resolutions - of which 23 have been contributed by [nation=Auralia] and its satellite states, more than any delegation bar Imperium Anglorum's - takes priority over their nation's law;

CONCERNED that any benefit that Auralian legislation on recognition of intellectual property (for instance) has offered to WA members is heavily outweighed by the legal morass that Ambassador Martin Russell and company have foisted upon them, often with the support of unwitting superdelegates, such as:
  • GA#226 "WA Development Foundation," which authorised an eponymous WA committee to grant loans for the express purpose of supporting less economically developed nations to implement its crushing austerity and privatisation measures as necessary;
  • GA#221 "On Multilateral Trade Talks" (mercifully since repealed), which, in aiming to establish decadal free trade meetings at WA Headquarters, actually delivered little more than a venue for already-friendly trade partners to reach "agreements" on trivial matters;
  • GA#424 "Repeal "Protection of Biomedical Research,"" which attacked the target resolution for imposing exceedingly low barriers to biomedical research - barriers restated almost to the word when the Tinfectian delegation passed an identically-named law a week later, which stands to this day; and
  • repeals of three well-meaning, never-replaced environmental laws (GA#239 "Vehicles Emissions Control," GA#261 "Rainforest Protection Act," and GA#281 "Industrial Pollution Control"), which explicitly served to benefit nobody other than car manufacturers, agricultural conglomerates, and heavy industry;

HORRIFIED at the deceitful, if not reprehensible, acts undertaken by the following Auralian satellites:
  • Afrasiab WA Mission, which held WA membership at the same time as Auralia when it submitted "Commend Auralia" in February 2014, a gross violation of international etiquette for which both nations as well as the Commendation were removed from the WA;
  • World Assembly Charter Working Group, an Auralian-led and supposedly collaborative international effort, which submitted a repeal of GA#2 weeks later (also removed due to the author's shamelessly self-promoting aegis) with a view to replacing it with a "Charter of the World Assembly" that would have all but established a WA Army;
  • Railana, Auralia's WA satellite for two-and-a-half years after its failed self-Commendation, which authored two resolutions so poorly thought out that they had to be repealed: GA#312 "On Universal Jurisdiction" (for preventing the creation of an International Criminal Court) and GA#347 "Foreign Patent Recognition" (for foisting a domestic patent system on all member states, whether or not they wanted one);

DISMAYED at the Auralian tradition not only of refusing to comply with resolutions that require them to legalise abortion and same-sex marriage, but also trying (and invariably failing) to pass legislation that would subvert such resolutions, notably:
  • proposing at least one replacement for GA#15 "Freedom of Marriage Act" in 2013 that would allow member states to deny same-sex couples the right to marry; their "Convention on Domestic Partnerships" was defeated four years later for similar reasons;
  • employing countless activists to perpetuate Operation: Judicial Review On Trial, where they brought judicial review to the attention of world leaders via an incredibly unsuccessful effort to convince constitutional courts across the multiverse to uphold laws against equal marriage (despite originally seeking the much more promising and less controversial goal of forcing prisons to deliver a massive increase in living standards for inmates); and
  • authoring multiple drafts that would have given members major leeway to almost completely outlaw abortion - including one replacement of GA#128 "On Abortion" that would have likely succeeded at the start of 2014 had Auralia's repeal not been defeated by 458 votes - if not effectively requiring them to do so on the pretext that "prenatal life" be legally preserved during abortions;

OBSERVING the vast popularity of two supposedly-convenient gadgets developed and distributed by Auralian state-subsidised entrepreneurs: one designed to allow malicious advertisers to readily churn out constant, unsolicited large-scale telegrams; the other intended (with massive success) to lead hundreds of national leaders to believe that their satellites are being cared for, rather than merely being overseen every few weeks until their inevitable collapse; and

CONVINCED that Auralia - in writing resolutions that are both disastrous and infuriatingly persistent, while at once repeatedly disregarding and assaulting the international rules-based order - deserves nothing more than this body's scorn and contempt:

HEREBY CONDEMNS [nation=Auralia].

THE SECURITY COUNCIL:

REMINDING every ambassador voting on this resolution that the General Assembly's more than 500 Resolutions - of which 23 have been contributed by [nation=Auralia] and its satellite states - takes priority over their country's law;

CONCERNED that any benefit WA members may have experienced through Auralian legislation on recognition of intellectual property (for instance) is heavily outweighed by the legal morass that Ambassador Martin Russell and company have foisted upon tens of thousands of nations, often with the support of unwitting superdelegates, such as:
  • GA#221 "On Multilateral Trade Talks," which - in aiming to establish decadal free trade meetings at WA Headquarters - actually accomplished little more than providing a venue for already-friendly trade partners to reach "agreements" on trivial matters;

DISMAYED at the Auralian tradition not only of refusing to comply with resolutions that require them to legalise abortion and same-sex marriage, but also trying (and inevitably failing) to pass legislation that would subvert and all but nullify such resolutions, notably:
  • proposing at least one replacement for GA#15 "Freedom of Marriage Act" in 2013 that would allow member states to deny same-sex couples the right to marry; their "Convention on Domestic Partnerships" was defeated four years later for similar reasons;

OBSERVING the vast popularity of two supposedly-convenient gadgets developed and distributed by Auralian state-subsidised entrepreneurs: one designed to send out large-scale telegrams in a manner that negatively affects much-needed stamp sale revenue from national post offices; the other intended (with massive success) to lead hundreds of national leaders to believe that their satellites are being cared for, rather than merely being overseen every few weeks until their inevitable collapse; and

CONVINCED that any nation that shows itself to be as great an international menace as Auralia - especially through writing disastrous legislation that cannot be (or almost certainly will not be) reversed - deserves nothing more than this body's scorn and contempt:

HEREBY CONDEMNS [nation=Auralia].

Condemnation is a badge of honor. I cannot in good-faith support this, regardless of their accomplishments.

Auralia is a religious conservative. This will not pass because we as a community correctly refuse to give honor to religious conservatives.

Absolute 100% support for this (provided you keep the Afrasiab and WA Charter Working Group clauses). It's about time Auralia got some recognition for all their hard work!

I would tend to agree. Although this will likely be campaigned heavily against and fail, I'll throw my hat in the ring. He damn near repealed #2, so that has to be worth something.

A few things:

1. If you don't like those resolutions, try to repeal them.

2. Why are you still upset about a minor branding violation from 7 years ago?

3. The repeal of "Rights and Duties" (GA#2) had more to do with an academic fight over the pre-2016 WA Rules than with actually establishing a "WA Army." Mods signaled at the time that they would be open to rewriting the rules if GA#2 was repealed, so we tried to repeal it. Its nonsensical ideas about war (like that it's really "war" if it's consensual) were obvious targets for a repeal. Peacekeeping was its own thing altogether, which is why the proposal, well, didn't create a peacekeeping force.

4. The whole controversy about the repeal of GA#2 and the No Army Rule was pretty much settled when mods abolished the No Army Rule in 2016. And then the GA Secretariat put a stop to claims that acknowledging the possibility of noncompliance was a Metagaming violation. You may as well write a condemnation of the mods and the Secretariat.

5. The "World Assembly Charter Working Group" was indeed collaborative. I should know, I was part of it.

I'm not inclined to vote against this purely because Auralia chose to multi 6 years ago. Others have been forgiven for far, far more than we care to remember. Notably forum destruction-- and also spending years being an asshole. Many modern day irl heroes have had their falters: the framers of the US constitution were slave owners; Jesus was against peace (read Zealot-- it's a historical account without religious bias); Lincoln believed blacks were inferior to whites in some ways (yes, Abraham Lincoln); Solzhenitsyn was against the jews (from a religious standpoint-- not racial); "Liver of blaspheming Jew" is a quote from Macbeth (Shakespeare was a suck-up); Plato and Aristotle considered women inferior; Einstein committed incest; Freud contradicted his own work in when working with real patients who's therapy affects their lives (such as interpreting a woman's dream of a straw hat with the end bent down as depicting... something sexual even though the woman's consultation didn't reflect that) and accused Jung of wishing to kill him; etc.

I'm more concerned with whether Auralia learned anything from that. So I'll be reading newer posts (and older posts) from them to see if Auralia is still self-aggrandizing. I don't want to have a mob rule view.

Black Hawks Matter is, as far as we are aware, not an actual Black Hawk member and anything they say shouldn't be recognized as pertaining to the group of The Black Hawks.

That aside, let's not get into the slope of abortion on this thread and instead focus on the proposal. :)

Also noting, people who have been caught multing before currently have badges. I don’t think the issue here is really a half decade old moderation issue.

I would support something like this.

If the above is true about BHM, TBH should definitely go to moderation. Anonymous puppets are annoying, nations meant to give the impression they are someone they aren’t are a step too far to accept IMHO.

Clearly, Auralian foreign policy is woefully inconsistent.
