Squidroida's link to the NS Sports world

The nation of Squidroidia is one hellbent on the ways of sport. Whether one is kicking a ball around a grass rectangle for fun or learning the complexities of other sports in the military, sport is everywhere. If Squidroidia sends a national team the whole nation will root for them. Even in a perilous economic situation the sportsmen and women flying the flag can lift them up. That is why sport is loved in this tiny nation. We don't have any international experience, but the pride, the glory, the honor of representing Squidroidia at international competition is one that all the nation's people dream of. It's one of the few ways to get reputation under your belt in the nation.

Our national sport is football, and for good reason. Aside from the beautiful game, all other sports (Unless authorized by the Squidroidian government) are only playable in the military. Although Squidroidia has only existed for a fair bit as a national football team, the vibrant Squidroidian Super League and the 2nd division Challenge League have an expanding roster of clubs to root for no matter what your passion is. More information on these clubs can be found here. Aside from football, the Squidroidia Armed Forces also invest their time in "army teams" to compete in international competition. The first 2 times a Squidroidian national team in any sport have competed in were the 34th World Lacrosse Championships and World Bowl XXXIX, both exiting at the group phase. The ultimate aim for Squidroidian sports is for the national football team to lift the prestigious NationStates World Cup, but time will tell whether a national team can make it past the qualifiers.

Aside from any national team escapades, what everyone focuses their eyes on is the Squidroidia Cup. This is the nation's domestic football cup competition, and the Semi-finals and Final are held in one venue in the nation's capital of Inkopolis. There, all Squidroidian football clubs compete in a single elimination format to decide the Squidroidia Cup champion. The biggest underdog stories usually come from the Cup although they are few and far between. The Squidroidian Cup is a competition for those who want to see drama at every turn as the teams duke off in a domestic cup competition.

In more recent times Squidroidia has been seen expanding their horizons in terms of sports. After their courageous effort in the 34th World Lacrosse Championship, the Squidroidian national lacrosse team have kickstarted a sporting revolution, with domestic lacrosse, basketball, sepak takraw and open wheel racing (or WGP) series in the works or already gone ahead. This is primarily due to the popularity of other sports in Squidroidia and an economic boom in the area.

CURRENT AND UPCOMING COMPETITIONS

This does not include any international competitions that Squidroidia is in or competitions that have already been finished

Ongoing: Squidroidian Football Leagues Leagues Season 2, Squidroidia Sepak Takraw Champions Season 1
Upcoming: Squidroidia Lacrosse Premier League Season 2, Squidroidian Leisure Center Basketball Leagues Season 1, Squidroidia WGP3 Season 1

Is Squidroidia ready for some (gridiron) football?
Squidroidian Armed Forces announce plans for World Bowl debut
June 7th, 2020

Shortly after the Inter-Regiment Football Tournament at the Squidroidia Armed Forces Park, the SAF's Sport Ministry held an emergency press conference with Squidroidia Bowl MVP Chiziwa Hideyoshi and Regiment 20 head coach Colonel Ebisawa Tanyu. In front of the Squidroidian media, the humble coach who finished runner-up in the big game against Hideyoshi's Regiment 74 squad, announced that Squidroidia would form their own national team made up of players in the Inter-Regiment tournament, and were set to compete in World Bowl XXXIX.

"I know we already have a team set to play in the International Lacrosse Championships, but football is my passion," said Colonel Tanyu at the press conference. "And I believe that I can guide this national team to decent success at the World Bowl. We're a new nation, but I want a trip to the Playoffs from these boys!" Regiment 74 quarterback Hideyoshi agreed with the national team coach, adding, "I would love to be the starting quarterback for the Squidroidia team. It's a dream to play in the World Bowl... More chances to be known than the local tournament to be sure!"

Chiziwa Hideyoshi had a stellar performance during the Squidroidia Bowl, throwing 8/13 for 126 yards and 3 touchdowns in a hard fought game. The Squidroidian Challenge League

Matchday 1

Club Factoria 1–0 Weedpot FC
Mill Park, Factoria

Octo Valley FC 0–2 TryHard Sporting
Octavio Stadium, Octo Valley

Oh my sweet goodness OVFC, you just lost to the worst team in Squidroidia! You have 5 more games to go so you're technically still in the title race (I mean everyone is seeing how only 1 matchday has gone by) but goooooooood damn. This is an embarrassment to the Octolings. Don't be shocked if your coach gets sacked after this.

As for Club Factoria... Well you won a game. That's all I'm going to tell you. Weedpot were just puffing kush and passing the ball, sure they had a couple of chances made by young schoolboy Yamada Tabito, but they didn't amount to anything. All you needed to do was to score early and hold back the ball, and that got you the 3 points. A strong early showing, let's see if they have the momentum to carry that into an away trip.

Standings

Squidroidian Cup Preliminary Round Draw

Postby Squidroidia » Tue Jun 09, 2020 11:48 am

The Squidroidian Cup

Preliminary Round Draw

"Good evening Squidroidia! This is Fukuhara Himeko, President of the Squidroidian Football Association. Welcome to the Preliminary Round draw of Squidroidia's biggest sporting event, the Squidroidian Cup! Here with me today is Inkopolis FC star and Squidroidia's supposed best football talent, Mr. Itoh Hoshi. Good evening Mr. Hoshi."

"What a fine evening to you Mrs. Himeko."

"So Itoh, how's the campaign going for your Inklings side?"

"Doing pretty well I might say. Scored a few goals, we sit 2nd in the Super League, all's going well. It's not the halfway point of the season yet but considering how our rivals are doing, we might be able to win the title. Imagine how our fans will feel after we pip this tight field to a Champions League berth!"

"Considering how tight the Super League title race is going, it's alright to say that. Anyways, since your team was 2nd after the 6th matchday, the Inkling fans are delighted to hear that your side is going straight to the last 8. How does that make you feel?"

"At least we can concentrate on the Super League campaign for now ;) Seeing Squidroidia Squidbreak having to go through preliminaries is amazing to be fair. If they lose against a Challenge League side in the opening round, we'll be partying all day!"

"That'll be one hell of a party to be sure if it happens. Unfortunately to the Squidbreak fans you're fate will be decided by your most heated rival. I will be taking control of the Challenge League pot, containing the 4 clubs in that league, while Itoh will have the Super League pot. For a refresher, here's what the pots look like."

Super League
- FC Squidroidia Squidbreak
- Midnight Soccer Club
- Starlight Boulevard FC
- Tractor Club Sawayama

Challenge League
- Club Factoria
- Octo Valley FC
- TryHard Sporting
- Weedpot FC

"The procedure for this draw will see the Super League sides being drawn against a Challenge League side. I will go first, choosing a Challenge League team and Mr. Hoshi will pair the selected Challenge League side with one from the Super League. We will do this 3 more times until all the teams have been drawn against each other, and those matches will all be played at Inkopolis City Stadium. Mr. Hoshi, are you ready?"

"More than ready, Mrs. Himeko."

"Then let's begin. Starting off with our first Challenge League side... Octo Valley FC. Didn't go off to the best of starts this season, but they still have plenty to lose as we go over to Mr. Hoshi to see what Super League team the Octolings will have to face in Inkopolis,"

"The fact that we have Octolings coming here peacefully is mind-boggling! Anyways, here we go.... The Octolings are facing... Tractor Club Sawayama. Not exactly the best of starts for them, I should know because I beat them at their own turf! But good luck against the Octolings, maybe you can find a way to make the Quarter-Finals."

"That's one matchup down but we still have six teams awaiting their destiny. The next Challenge League side up on the block... TryHard Sporting! Quite ironic how you came after OVFC seeing as you actually BEAT them away from your digs in this city! This is practically home field advantage to you."

"Now if only they get to face the Squidbreak, Mrs. Himeko. This is their only chance for that to happen, and is it no surprise that I get the honors?"

"It is no surprise, Itoh! Now let's see where the ball falls for THS."

"Unfortunately for you, TryHards, you're facing Starlight Boulevard FC. Missed the cutoff for a automatic Quarter-Finals bid due to losing 2-0 against TSC, at least you got the easy part of this exercise."

"2 more teams on the chopping block for the Challenge League, let's see who goes first... My sweet goodness it's Club Factoria! You're tooting your horns at the sight of this, I can feel it!"

"Now, will you get the Squidbreak or will Midnight do? I know you want the army team, THS missed out on the army team, and it's between you and Weedpot to decide who gets that date with the devil. Club Factoria has been drawn against... MY GOODNESS YOU GOT THE SQUIDBREAK! Club Factoria have the chance to upset the best team in Inkopolis!"

"My word that will be a cracker of a game to watch. Well we have 2 more clubs to go, and you basically know the match by now. It's Weedpot FC...."

"And they're facing Midnight Soccer Club. Last place in the Super League and they basically have to focus on a cup run to even have a shot at IFCF qualification. Get past the devil's grass and then we'll talk.

"And that is it for the draw! I would like to thank Mr. Itoh Hoshi for participating. May the balls fall into your favor next round, Mr. Hoshi."

"Thank you, Mrs. Himeko."

Results of the Draw

Octo Valley FC v Tractor Club Sawayama
Try Hard Sporting v Starlight Boulevard FC
Club Factoria v FC Squidroidia Squidbreak
Weedpot FC v Midnight Soccer Club

The Squidroidian Challenge League

Matchday 2

Weedpot FC 3–0 TryHard Sporting
Marijuana Place, Weedpot
-
Club Factoria 1–2 Octo Valley FC
Mill Park, Factoria

After the 2nd round of fixtures, all 4 teams are level on 3 points having each won and lost once, with only goal difference separating them. TryHard Sporting drop to 3rd in the Challenge League after being blown out against the Dank while Octo Valley FC's 2-1 win over Club Factoria away wasn't enough for them to leap-frog THS into a Liga B Champions Trophy spot, as head-to-head separates the 2 clubs. The Challenge League clubs now look forward to the Preliminary Round of the Squidroidian Cup, as they all hope for some Super League upsets.

Standings after Matchday 2:

Challenge League Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Weedpot FC 2 1 0 1 3 1 +2 3 - Champions and Liga B Champions Trophy
2 Club Factoria 2 1 0 1 2 2 0 3 - Liga B Champions Trophy
3 TryHard Sporting 2 1 0 1 2 3 −1 3 - Liga B Champions Trophy
4 Octo Valley FC 2 1 0 1 2 3 −1 3

Squidroidian Cup Preliminary Round

Postby Squidroidia » Wed Jun 10, 2020 8:25 am

The Squidroidian Cup

Preliminary Round

Octo Valley FC 0–2 Tractor Club Sawayama
A spectacular performance from the Farmers started with a tap in goal by their star midfielder in the 34th minute, aided by a free kick. The Octolings didn't really try hard after that, and a header in the 69th minute punched their ticket to the next round.
-
TryHard Sporting 0–0 Starlight Boulevard FC (0–0 AET) (4–2 pen.)
The biggest shock of the Preliminary Round, logically, came from the worst team in the league. It was surprising that the underdogs of TryHard Sporting managed to take Starlight Boulevard to extra time, never mind penalty kicks. But they managed to put that form into good use in the lottery draw that is penalty kicks, as the goalkeeper stopped the Boulevard Boys and their chances to make a run. THS are the only Challenge League side remaining in the Cup.
-
Club Factoria 0–1 FC Squidroidia Squidbreak
As the best team in the league, the Squidbreak were expected to blowout the Machine and go to the Quarterfinals with ease. If ease was a drubbing by 3 goals or more, this wasn't it. A 64th minute strike from one Senri Sumio, taken by the Squidbreak from Real Squidroid, was the only goal in this otherwise close encounter from the 2 sides worlds apart from each other.
-
Weedpot FC 1–1 Midnight Soccer Club (1–1 AET) (1–2 pen.)
After the shock from TryHard Sporting, it looked like Weedpot FC were also going to upset a Super League outfit in Midnight Soccer Club and book a place in the last 8. Scoring in the 58th minute, the Dank felt like a team that might 420 blaze it and book a match with the big boys of Squidroidian football. Unfortunately this wouldn't be the case, as the team would lose their steam 8 minutes later via a Dark Moon penalty. The score would stay level even after extra time, as the penalty shootout was 10 shots of frustration. Midnight Soccer Club went up first and snatched their penalty, and so did Weedpot on their first try. What followed was a series of unfortunate saves and misses, off the bar, off the post, you named it, up until MSC scored with their 5th and final shot, as Weedpot FC would fail to convert their final chance and bow out of the Cup.

Squidroidian Cup Quarter-Final Draw

Postby Squidroidia » Wed Jun 10, 2020 5:44 pm

The Squidroidian Cup

Quarter-Final Draw

"Good evening again, Squidroidia! Welcome back to the home of the Squidroidian FA and the Quarter-Final Draw of the Squidroidian Cup. I'm Fukuhara Himeko, President of the SFA, and here with me is none other than FC Squidroidia Squidbreak star Senri Sumio. Good evening Senri."

"Same to you, Fukuhara."

"So, as far as I understand it, your team is in the Quarter-Finals and their ball is in the pot. How exactly did your team end up doing that?"

"Well to be fair it was mostly due to my strike that we were able to go past Club Factoria. They were really giving us a hard time, I know our goalie [Chikae] Kano was diving all over the place. We are lucky that we even got our clean sheet."

"Interesting to hear. In terms of the Super League, considering that we're not even halfway, we aren't doing well that's for sure. Losses to Tractor Club and Real Squidroid have seen us out of the IFCF qualification spots, and all we need to focus on is the Cup. Unless the 4 teams above us, including those stupid Inklings, slip up, we aren't getting the title."

"Mr. Sumio, you know that your team is only 3 points off the leaders, right?"

"I know that. Hell, I think 14 games isn't enough to prepare ourselves for IFCF competition from the likes of Cromatika and Equestria and whatnot. I think that the season should be doubled for both the Super League and the Challenge League, hell even quadruple the Challenge League games! We need to be better prepared for the next level, plain and simple."

"I won't argue with that, Senri. Anyways, shortly before the draw we assigned the teams their own number to be pulled out of the hat, and here's where the numbers go."

The Teams
1 - TryHard Sporting (Challenge League)
2 - Tyranny Sports Club (Super League)
3 - Tractor Club Sawayama (Super League)
4 - Inkopolis FC (Super League)
5 - Real Squidroid CF (Super League)
6 - FC Squidroidia Squidbreak (Super League)
7 - Calamari Wanderers CFC (Super League)
8 - Midnight Soccer Club (Super League)

"As you can see the only Challenge League side left in TryHard Sporting get ball number 1, followed by Tyranny and Tractor Club. Inkopolis FC are number 4, then it's cross-city rivals Real Squidroid getting ball number 5, Squidroidia Squidbreak getting number 6."

"So close to number 7! That would be so lucky!"

"Rounding it off are Calamari Wanderers in 7 and Midnight Soccer Club in 8. Those are the teams awaiting their destiny here tonight. Senri, are you ready?"

"For the Squidbreak, ma'am!"

"Let's get started then! Senri, the first ball drawn."

"Eight."

"Midnight Soccer Club go first. Last in the league and struggled last round against Weedpot, let's see who they will face in the first Quarter-Final!"

"Three."

"And there goes Tractor Club Sawayama! The last time they met was in Super League matchday 3 with Tractor Club pipping MSC 1 goal to nill to rise up to 5th. A slip in form sees them in 7th though so we will have the bottom 2 in the Super League duel it out. Mr. Sumio, the 3rd ball please."

"One."

"And there goes TryHard Sporting! The plucky Challenge League club recorded a famous victory in the previous round beating Starlight Boulevard on penalties to already add on to their wins total in all competition. Who will they have to face to turn 2 into 3?"

"Two."

"It's going to be one chaotic night for THS, they're facing Tyranny Sports Club! Unbelievable start to their season, they sit 3rd in the Super League and are just holding onto the Taça das Confederações spot. Whether or not they can challenge for Cup Winner's Cup will have to fall on the shoulders of the minnows. 2 more matches to go, who's up next on the chopping block Mr. Sumio?"

"Four."

"It's going to be Inkopolis FC! The Inklings sit in 2nd place with a Liga dos Vencedores spot on their hands, with the best attack in the league thanks in very large part to Itoh Hoshi. Now, will they get to face their most bitter rivals THIS early? All Sumio needs to pull out is a six..."

"Sigh... Six."

"IT'S GOING TO BE A NATIONAL DERBY QUARTER-FINAL! FCSS sit in 5th in the league, but don't let that scare the Inklings, they tied with them in their first Super League encounter this season! This is going to be a match for the ages, Senri!"

"It will be for us if we score 3 past them at their home stadium, that's for sure."

"Fair play, fair play. We have only 2 more teams awaiting their destiny, and we know who they are. All we need to know now is who exactly gets the home lockers."

"Five."

"Real Squidroid indeed! 4th place in the Super League and having beaten the Squidbreak, barely holding onto an IFCF spot though. I think we all know who's not been drawn yet..."

"Seven."

"Yep, top of the table Calamari Wanderers. Only ahead by 2 points, but they did pull off a win against Los Squidroids at home. That concludes tonight's draw, and Senri, what's going to be the match of this round?

"Surely the National Derby. I have the grit in me to attack those Inklings with force, and you can't stop me nor my team! We're winning the Squidroidian Cup and you're just another roadblock in our plans."

"Uhm... It was nice meeting you. May the odds be ever be in your favor."

"You too, Fukuhara... Mmmmm, calamari is on the menu..."

IFCF and FFI Explained

IFCF and FFI Explained - Who goes where?
An explainer on international club competition before the season ends
June 11th, 2020

To those following the Squidroidian Super League and the Squidroidian Challenge League, you might be confused about all the color coding and the names of the competitions the teams qualify for. Could Calamari Wanderers compete in the Champions League? Is the Challengers Cup really something that Tractor Club Sawayama really want to tackle? Can Weedpot FC handle the Liga B Champions Trophy? What is the Taça das Confederações and why are Tyranny qualifying for it?. These answers might confuse newbies to the sport of football, but these are par for the course for the veterans. We here are the Squidroidian Sport Newswire are here to explain to you these competitions and where you can expect Squidroidian teams to fall into during the course of these events.

The IFCF Champions League and Challengers Cup

The International Federation for Club Football, or IFCF, is the main federation that nations qualify their teams for. At the top of the IFCF pecking order is the Champions League, the competition everyone wants to win. As Squidroidia is new to the game, only the winners of the domestic top flight, at the moment being Calamari Wanderers CFC, qualify for this prestigious event, and only in the First Preliminary Round. This is where you see teams like Kven FK, Bruland IF, Club Warder and the Plane of Possibility's very own Fighters. Survive both legs of the tie and you advance to the Second Preliminary Round. This is where the teams get slightly bigger. Sporting Clube da Lusitânia and the Royal Canterlot Hoofball Club were found last edition. Get through that and it's a straight shot to the Third Preliminary Round, where teams like Spartangrad and Metropolis Alligators can be found. Winning that tie would get you to the Playoff Round, and a win in those tricky legs will put you in the Group Stage, where teams like the defending champions Northern Union await. But a Squidroidian team could fall much earlier than the Playoff, so where will Calamari Wanderers have to go if they trip up?

This is where the IFCF Challengers Cup kicks in. Acting as the second-tier competition in this IFCF system, the Challengers Cup usually is avaliable for the 3 sides below the Champions League allocated spots (In this case Inkopolis FC, Tyranny Sports Club and Tractor Club Sawayama). But a team can reach the Challengers Cup just by being knocked out of the Champions League as a second chance. That utter calamity of a performance against Fighters in the first preliminary in the CL could be turned into a night against Istria City FC. An embarrassing second preliminary exit to Crystopolis City can be rewarded with a home game against Southern Star. And if the champions get knocked out on the final hurdle to the Champions League Group Stage, they will be compensated with a Challengers Cup group berth and a second chance to show Squidroidia what it has in store. Of course, an exit from the Challengers Cup means an exit from IFCF competition, so the competition is a one time safety net for Champions League teams. That doesn't rule out the teams who already qualify for the Challenger's Cup, as they can still qualify via the same preliminary route, where they can't face their nation's own sides up until the Round of 16 at the earliest.

If a Squidroidian side makes it to the group stage of either competition, they have to go through 6 daunting games at night, under the lights, against the best the world has to offer. Go in the top 2 and you stay alive for the knockout rounds. Finish 3rd in your CL group and you get transferred to the Challenger's Cup knockout phase. Finish 3rd or 4th in the Challengers Cup group or last in the Champions League group and there is no luck. You are out of IFCF competition, and there is no second chance. Advance, however, and you're on the path to glory. If a team is especially good or lucky, they will reach the summit, the Final, held at a neutral site venue where 90 minutes may be between glory and heartbreak. Winning either competition gets the team an automatic berth to the Champions League group stage next season. This can override a Challenger's Cup position or add another CL berth to a league if the winning team has already qualified for the IFCF's biggest competition.

The FFI Liga dos Vencedores and Taça das Confederações

Now I know what you're thinking right about now. What the hell are those competitions with the Portuguese names? Those don't belong to the IFCF, they instead belong to the FFI. The Liga dos Vencedores and the Taça das Confederações are the FFI's own version of the Champions League and Challengers Cup that the IFCF run. Finishing in the top 2 means that you qualify for the Liga, and finishing in 3rd qualifies you to the Taça. These are added on to the IFCF spots that a team gets, meaning that for the top 3 teams, no matter what, they have to play in 2 international club competitions. Taking the Super League as it stands, Calamari Wanderers get a bye to the group stage of the LIga, while Inkopolis FC has to qualify for the group stage of that competition while TSC go through Taça qualification. Unlike the Champions League it is just 1 round, no 4+ rounds like in the CL or CC. This allows teams to concentrate their energy on IFCF qualification.

The Group Stages of the Liga has the same format as the CL groups, 8 groups of 4, top 2 advance to Round of 16 and the 3rd place team goes to the Taça. However, since the Taça only has 4 groups of 4, there is only a round of 16 for that competition, as the 3rd place Liga teams face off against the top 2 group finishers from the Taça in the round of 16, quarters, semis and Final, same for the Liga. Winning the Liga dos Vencedores or Taça das Confederações also means that a team goes to the next season's competition automatically (With an exception for the Taça winner if they qualify for Liga), so there really is no rush for a Liga contending team to reach the top 2 of their domestic league.

this might not be the case anymore since the ffi user is cte'd

The IFCF Liga B Champions Trophy

Now all of this means nothing for the Challenge League sides. They won't get the chance to go to CL, CC or the other 2 competitions anytime soon, so what do they do? Of course, they have their own competition too! The Liga B Champions Trophy is the IFCF competition for the best 2nd division sides in each nation, and everyone gets 3 spots. Seeing as the Challenge League only has 4 teams, that is basically almost all of the teams in the 2nd division. Again, it's more of the same, but no Liga B CT teams are guaranteed to go to the group stage automatically. Everyone has to go through some kind of preliminaries, no matter what. When a team survives this it's par for the course. Group stage with double matchdays, top 2 advance to last 16, then Quarters, Semis and Final. What makes Liga B more interesting is that almost all of the teams are new (Unless they are yo-yoing or are in a closed league), which makes this competition more wacky than Champions League or Challengers Cup.

The IFCF Cup Winners Cup

And finally, we have the oldest IFCF competition, the Cup Winners Cup. This competition, as the name implies, is only for the winners of the domestic cup competitions for each nation. No Super Cups, no Play-offs, none of that. The Squidroidian Cup winner gets to go to this competition, and if a team is already in an IFCF competition (CL, CC or Liga B), they don't have to forfeit anything, so if a top 3 team wins the cup, they have to play in three, yes, three international club competitions. Like a domestic cup, this one doesn't have any group stages, it's straight up knockout fun, with a Preliminary Round, a First Round Proper, then Round of 16, Quarters, Semis and Final. The winner of the Cup Winners Cup will also be invited to the next edition of the competition.

And there you have it! If you know what you're dealing with, you now understand how these competitions work. Which Squidroidian teams will book their place in the competitions, and where will they go? Stay tuned to the Squidroidian Sport Newswire to figure out the journeys of the chosen few.

Squidroidian Cup Quarter-Final

Postby Squidroidia » Fri Jun 12, 2020 9:14 am

The Squidroidian Cup

Quarter-Finals

Midnight Soccer Club 2–0 Tractor Club Sawayama
What was mostly a defensive tie between 4th and 8th in the Super League finished off in the favor of the Dark Moon. In the 80th minute midfielder Kabuto Tadataka, who was recovering from an injury early on in the campaign, fired home a header that flew into the bottom corner. The team would follow that up thanks to an embarrassing mistake by the Tractor Club keeper to send the city of Midnight crazy and book a place in the Squidroidia Cup Semi-Finals.
-
TryHard Sporting 1–0 Tyranny Sports Club
THS did it AGAIN! The Challenge League side and Squidroidia's plucky underdogs booked an unlikely trip to the Semi-Finals thanks to a 79th minute screamer from their striker Makino Hideo into the top corner. The Tyranny, sitting 3rd in the Super League were struggling all day trying to break down a woeful THS defence, but nothing really worked out in the end. TryHard Sporting are moving on to the Semi-Finals!
-
The National Derby - Inkopolis FC 2–0 FC Squidroidia Squidbreak
In what many thought could be a back and forward game between a team chasing for a title and a club floundering at the bottom half of the table, the Club of the People utterly demolished the army team in a display that can only be showered down by the Inklings. A 52 minute strike by Itoh Hoshi set off a red card from the Squidbreak, as they were now down to 10 men on the pitch. Hosi would set up a cross to winger Morihei Nariaki in the 87th to end the 3rd National Derby of the season, Inkopolis FC going 2-1-0 over the Squidbreak.
-
Real Squidroid CF 3–2 Calamari Wanderers CFC
This game was back and forward between 7th and 1st, and for good reason. Both teams showed off their attacks incredibly well, but at the end of the day Los Squidroids were just a smudge bit better. Real Squidroid would start off in the 36th minute thanks to a stunning volley by defender Yoichi Shigeko, before striker Amagawa Katsuyoshi tapped in a 2nd in the 41st minute. The 2nd half would see Calamari Wanderers rebound, however, a 56th minute goal to Golden Boot leading attacking mid Oda Shoko being followed up by a 71st minute penalty falling to winger Ozaki Takechi to level the score. That deadlock was short lived, as Katsuyoshi would score once again in the 80th as Real Squidroid held on to win a remarkable cup game 3-2, and thus setting the concrete for the final 4.

-
Midnight Soccer Club 0–0 Tractor Club Sawayama
Darkness Stadium, Midnight

A dominant performance away from home against 2nd place in the league Inkopolis FC extends the gap for Calamari Wanderers by 5 points. Helped by a draw and Tyranny losing to the Squidbreak, Tractor Club Sawayama leapfrog TSC to 3rd place and the Taça das Confederações spot. With 6 points separating last place and 2nd in the league, the fight for the Challengers Cup spots can do down to the wire, although Real Squidroid CF and Midnight Soccer Club are long shots as the bottom 2 teams in the league.

The Inkopolis Derby - Real Squidroid CF 2–1 Inkopolis FC
Tower Stadium, Inkopolis
-
Calamari Wanderers CFC 4–0 FC Squidroidia Squidbreak
County Stadium, Calamari County

A win against the now last place Squidroidia Squidbreak plus Inkopolis FC slipping up to their crosstown rivals sees the Calamari Wanderers within striking distance of the Squidroidian Super League title, 7 points ahead of now 2nd place Tractor Club Sawayama, leapfrogging IFC for the 2nd Liga dos Vencedores spot and a long shot for the title which only themselves, Calamari Wanderers and Inkopolis FC can lift at this time. The final place for iFCF competition and last place in the league are only separated by 1 point with Real Squidroid holding the gambit on head-to-head against 5th place Tyranny and 6th place Midnight, who are separated by goals scored. Starlight sit in 7th but it's the army team, predicted to challenge for the league title, being embarrassed at last place.

Super League Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts

Inkopolis City Stadium, Inkopolis
-
The Sky Color Derby - Starlight Boulevard FC 0–1 Midnight Soccer Club
Sunrise Park, Starlight

A slip-up against Tyranny Sports Club isn't exactly what the Flying Squids wanted, but that casts a shadow over potential title celebrations in Calamari County. The Wanderers now sit only 5 points clear of Inkopolis FC, who stay alive in the title race after beating a traveling Tractor Club Sawayama team. The Farmers can now only get at most the 2nd Liga dos Vencedores spot, as they now sit at 3rd looking over the rest of this dogfight pack. Tyranny Sports Club sit in the final IFCF spot previously held by a now 7th Los Squidroids side who are now on the outside looking in, 3 points separating them and 4th. Midnight Soccer Club trail TSC on goals scored, the Squidbreak sit on 6th and it's lonely Starlight Boulevard in last, 4 points adrift of IFCF football after their loss in the derby.

Squidroidian Cup Semi-Final Draw

Postby Squidroidia » Sat Jun 13, 2020 11:56 am

The Squidroidian Cup

Semi-Final Draw

"Hello Squidroidia! My name is Fukuhara Himeko, president of the Squidroidian Football Association, and this is the Squidroidian Cup Semi-Final draw. I am not joined by anyone this evening, which is a real bummer because they're all out on the town preparing for the home stretch of their seasons, but just me in a little old shed people call the headquarters of the SFA picking balls out of a pot would do for now. As the name might suggest, we're reaching the home stretch of this season's competition, and 3 more games are slated to be played, being the 2 semi-finals and the Squidroidian Cup Final, with the winner booking a place in the IFCF Cup Winners Cup. You know the teams already, but what numbers are they assigned?"

The Teams
1 - TryHard Sporting (Challenge League)
2 - Real Squidroid CF (Super League)
3 - Midnight Soccer Club (Super League)
4 - Inkopolis FC (Super League

"As you can see, the teams are ordered by their reverse position after the 12th matchday of the Super League. That means TryHard Sporting gets the 1 ball, while Super League 2nd place Inkopolis FC gets the last ball, number 4. Sounds easy enough, all I need to do now is to draw out the penultimate fixtures before the Final."

---

The balls are put into the pot by SFA President Himeko, before swirling them around. Outside the SFA headquarters, 2 men were seen on their smartphones, going over the results from Matchday 12 of the Super League season. One man, Takagaki Nakazo, was the manager of Midnight Soccer Club.

"Boy that derby win was INSANE! I mean it was still 1-0 but at least we still have a chance of IFCF qualification! Maybe we can end up going to the Taça das Confederações next season!"

"You do know it is as likely for your team to draw or lose compared to winning? You are going to blow your chances if you even slip up once in the final 2 games, so you best be careful."

"Ah yes, the entitled Calamari Wanderers fan. I can't wait for your team to blow your Super League chances, to be fair... I think it would be good banter for all of the lads in the nation, and hey, it can't get more embarrassing than that!"

"How about your team being drawn against those literal midgets from the pub in TryHard? They'd go circles around your defence and hell, they'd have the pride of their fans to play for!"

"Pffff, like that would ever happen..."

---

Back at the SFA headquarters, Fukuhara Himeko would start the draw. She had already swirled the balls a bit and would pick up the first ball to signify the first team selected in this Semi-Final draw.

"Three. That is Midnight Soccer Club, inches away from Challenger's Cup qualification. Think of this as their second chance to get some internationals in. And they're going to face..."

Himeko pulls out another ball from the pot. To Manager Nazako's delight, it was not the TryHards. Instead, it was a much better team...

"Four. And that right there is Inkopolis FC. Outside chance of a Super League title sure, but they would love to have a cup as a consolation reward. Next step up on that road against the Dark Moon."

She would sigh as she revealed the other semi-final matchup. Ball 1 was picked up first, so TryHard Sporting were given the home locker room against Super League outfit Real Squidroid, as they were the last team that wasn't drawn.

"And that concludes the Semi-Final draw! I would like to congratulate the remaining 4 teams in this competition, you have all been so amazing throughout your play in the Cup! May the final await you!"

Result of the Draw
Midnight Soccer Club v Inkopolis FC
TryHard Sporting v Real Squidroid CF

Squidroidian Cup Semi-Finals

Postby Squidroidia » Sun Jun 14, 2020 9:59 am

The Squidroidian Cup

Semi-Finals

Midnight Soccer Club 1–0 Inkopolis FC
When the ball kicked off for the first semi-final tie, everyone expected Inkopolis FC, challenging for the Super League title by the skin of their teeth, to continue their double hopes. Their challenger was a hungry Midnight side boasting a strong midfield fighting for IFCF competition. It was an offensive game with no goals coming anywhere until the 65th minute, when Dark Moon striker Kitani Izumo nutmegged the IFC keeper to take the lead. MSC wouldn't hold back, defeating the Inklings in their home turf to advance to the Final.

TryHard Sporting 0–0 Real Squidroid CF (0–0 AET) (2–3 pen.)
Unfortunately the journey for the underdogs known as TryHard Sporting came to an end here. A spectacular defensive showcase from the Try Hards against the attack of Los Squidroids was present up until the dying minutes of extra time. From there Makino Hideo would make a daring run from across the pitch to try to win his underdogs the game and seal up a Squidroidian Cup Final against the Dark Moon, but a fatal miss would drag this defensive slugfest to penalty kicks. It was here that THS would stumble as Real Squidroid booked a place in the Squidroidian Cup Final.

Matchday 5

TryHard Sporting 0–0 Weedpot FC
TryHard Park, Inkopolis

Octo Valley FC 2–1 Club Factoria
Octavio Stadium, Octo Valley

With the final day of the season looming over, only TryHard Sporting has been mathematically eliminated from the title race, but the club can still finish with Liga B qualification. At last place in the table. THS are needing a win against Club Factoria to clinch the last IFCF Liga B spot. In the title hunt, Club Factoria need that game at Weedpot to end in a draw plus a win against THS by 2 goals or more to win the league. But everyone's eyes now shift to the title decider, Weedpot FC versus Octo Valley FC at Marijuana Place. A win or a draw without Factoria's parameters being met means that the Dank hoist the title, while the Octolings need a win to get the Challenge League crown.

Club Factoria got the final spot in the Liga B Champions Trophy via a nil-nil draw with TryHard Sporting. The team who shocked the eventual champions on the opening day of the season end it at last place.

Table after Matchday 13

With an away win against the Dark Moon and their title rivals slumping in Inkopolis, the club of the people in Inkopolis FC are still in the title hunt and are now assured of at least Taça das Confederações football next season. They sit 3 points adrift of Calamari Wanderers, the Inklings needing a win against Starlight Boulevard and for the Wanderers to fall against Tractor Club enough to close the goal difference gap of 5 to win the Super League, while all Calamari Wanderers need now is a draw to be crowned champions. On the other side of the table, Real Squidroid and Starlight Boulevard are out of IFCF contention (With the former however competing in the Squidroidian Cup Final against 6th place Midnight Soccer Club), while Tractor Club Sawayama, despite having the worst attack in the league, can still squeak into Challengers Cup or even Taça das Confederações. Gatekeeping those spots are the 3rd place Tyranny and the 4th place Squidbreak, as they need points to get international club football next season.

-

Final Stadings

Despite doing their end of the business at home against last place Starlight Boulevard and assuring a spot in the Liga dos Vencedores, Tractor Club Sawayama refused to cooperate and play the role of spoiler for Inkopolis FC. As such Calamari Wanderers County Football Club were crowned Squidroidian Super League champions and will be Squidroidia's representatives in the IFCF Champions League. A draw from the Squidbreak at home against Midnight coupled by Tyranny's loss to Real Squidroid leapfrogs the army team into the final FFI spot, Squidroidia's Taça das Confederações spot, salvaging a tough season for the team. Tyranny as a result have to play in only the Challengers Cup next season. On the other side of the table, Starlight Boulevard were confirmed in last place after losing to title challengers Inkopolis FC, but the gap between 5th and 7th is separated by a goal differential of 5. MSC, Los Squidroids and the Farmers (The former 2 playing in the Squidroidian Cup Final) all end the season on 17 points, 2 points adrift of the 4th place Squidbreak. With the season having come to a close, everyone turns their heads to Inkopolis for the Squidroidian Cup Final - Midnight Soccer Club versus Real Squidroid CF.

Squidroidian Cup Final

Postby Squidroidia » Wed Jun 17, 2020 6:29 am

The Squidroidian Cup Final

Midnight Soccer Club versus Real Squidroid CF

Home Locker Room, Inkopolis City Stadium

There was one man standing in front of a crowd of nervous Squidroidian football players, moments away from the biggest game of their careers so far. There he was, hair tucked back, wearing a suit and tie while everyone else was wearing the colors of the Dark Moon - Black, nothing but black. His name was Takagaki Nakazo, manager of this Super League outfit. In the other locker room were their opponents, a hungry Real Squidroid side ready to knock them out at all costs.

"Boys... This is your mind's wake-up call. When you get out on the pitch, you have to earn your way into the minds of the Squidroidian fateful in attendance. Now I know, I know, you guys are night owls... But this is a day game. I want to see a team that has just 1 more thing on their minds... To WIN!"

"WIN!"

"And what do I not want to see on your necks once the referee blows his god forsaken whistle?"

"SILVER MEDALS!"

"Yes yes, lads. We want to walk out of here with gold medals and the Cup. We won't take any ands, ifs or buts, and if you do, you're being thrown on the first bus to Starlight! So what do I want from you?"

"PRIDE!"

"Pride for who?"

"MIDNIGHT!"

"Pride for the city that you call home! Do not waste your time trying to applaud the fans in the middle of a game! Do what you're told and we will lift this god darn Cup! The residents don't want to see frowns on your faces, right?"

"NO!"

"So GO OUT THERE AND DO IT FOR THE LADS!"

"YES SIR!!!"

Road to the Final

For Midnight Soccer Club, the road to this pivotal moment in the club's history didn't come easy. They would have to start in the Preliminary Round after only picking up a win in the Derby and 2 draws to finish at the foot of the Super League. They were put up against the Challenge League's Weedpot FC, coming from 1 goal down to win on penalties to avoid an upset. In the Quarter-Finals they would knock out Tractor Club Sawayama, who at the time were challenging for an IFCF berth, 2 goals to nil. In order for the team to even reach the Final, they would have to face the Inklings themselves on their home turf. At the time they were challenging for a Super League title, which seemed to demotivate them, Kitani Izumo's 65th minute strike placing the Dark Moon in the Final.

However the road was even more difficult for Los Squidroids. Getting an automatic bye to the Quarters after a run which briefly saw them go top of the league, they would have to face eventual Super League champions Calamari Wanderers. At first their 2-0 lead over the side from Calamari County was being blown in the 2nd half, but never, ever count out Amagawa Katsuyoshi. An 80th minute strike which turned out to be the eventual winner punched their ticket to the Semis. Their opponents were the Cinderella story of the tournament, lowly Challenge League side TryHard Sporting. In a game which was more of the defensive kind, a near game winner from Makino Hideo which ended up in the hands of Real keeper Takemoto Shingen took the game to penalty kicks. Much to the joy of the Real fateful, the team would win the shootout and make the Final.

Midnight Soccer Club's Road to the Final
Preliminary Round - Weedpot FC, 1-1 (2-1 on penalties)
Quarter-Finals - Tractor Club Sawayama, 2-0
Semi-Finals - Inkopolis FC, 1-0

Real Squidroid's Road to the Final
Quarter-Finals - Calamari Wanderers CFC, 3-2
Semi-Finals - TryHard Sporting, 0-0 (3-2 on penalties)

The Final

Midnight Soccer Club 0–0 Real Squidroid CF (0–1 AET)
Amagawa Katsuyoshi '93 (REA)

Niou on the ball now. He dribbles up the field, finds his teammate Shigeko. Big cross from the man, and he finds Katsuyoshi. Katsuyoshi gets in the box, it's KATSUYOSHI! Oh my word, a strike of quality from the skipper, and Real Squidroid take the lead in the Squidroidian Cup Final!

And with a fitting strike from a club that has gone topsy turvy this season, going from top of the Super League to almost coming last... Los Squidroids are your Squidroidian Cup champions!

Real Squidroid CF

Squidroidian Cup Champions

What's next?

Wearing his gold medal on his neck, Amagawa Katsuyoshi was seemingly on top of the world. That strike he gave in the beginning of extra time saw his club win the Squidroidian Cup, booking their place in the IFCF Cup Winners Cup. All of that hardship? Working on the fields only to start his footballing dream, and to have it pay off like that? Worth it. As he exited the locker room after being showered in champagne, he would be approached by a man with the logo of the SFA on his tracksuit.

"Hello there, young man. My name is Ryūzaki Mito, and I work with the Squidroidian Football Association. You're Mr. Katsuyoshi, right?"

"Yes sir. Squidroidian Cup champion and all."

"It's nice for you to say that. Your team has done a mighty job with you at the helm. My goodness, that was an excellent showing in the Final!"

"I know, Mr. Mito. It was just a chance of beauty, come to think of it. If it weren't for me we would have faced penalties."

"Penalties are nothing kid. I have an offer you won't refuse."

He pulls out a photo from his tracksuit. It featured all of the Sharktail national team players, shortly before a crucial win in World Cup qualification a long time ago. Katsuyoshi couldn't figure out a single guy.

"We finally plan to play our first national team fixture soon, against the Sharktail NT. They didn't participate in World Cup qualification this cycle, but I know they're hungry. I want you to be in the 23 man squad backing up Endo Hoshi."

"And you're trusting me? A 25 year old from a side who finished midtable?"

"I do trust you kid. You have the talent to be a superstar if you hone your skills. I'm not saying you should move out to a foreign club, you are at the peak of your powers and you could do something special. Endo's like 29 so you should be competing with him for caps."

"But then why not Hideo from THS? He's 20 and he's getting shouts from Super League sides up and down the table!"

"That will be for qualifiers, lad. Pack your bags, to Sharktail we come."

Changes for the Squidroidian Football System

Postby Squidroidia » Thu Jun 18, 2020 10:09 am

After a meeting with the Squidroidian FA, all 12 member clubs from the previous season and the mayors of Northport and Spartansburg, the following changes will be made to Squidroidian club football

  • A system of automatic promotion and relegation is to be adopted between the Super League and Challenge League, where the last place team in the Super League is replaced by the winners of the Challenge League for the proceeding season.
  • In addition, the 7th place team in the Super League and the 2nd and 3rd place teams in the Challenge League will participate in a promotion-relegation playoff group where each of the teams play each other once. The winning team goes to the Super League while the other 2 go to the Challenge League.
  • 4 new clubs will be added for the Challenge League, 2 being Northport Meadows SC, who play in the 7,000 seater Meadowlands Park, and Spartansburg City, who play in the 15,000 seater Ironworkers Arena. In addition to these 2 new clubs, there will also be the B teams of Inkopolis FC and FC Squidroidia Squidbreak, who will play in 3,000 seater venues.
  • The season for both the Super League and the Challenge League will be expanded to 28 games, meaning each team plays each other 4 times, twice at home and twice away.
  • The Squidroidian Super Cup will be contested at the beginning of the season between the Super League champions and the winners of the Squidroidian Cup, to be held in Inkopolis City Stadium.
  • These 2 teams will also get a bye to the Squidroidian Cup Quarter-Finals, as every Challenge League side bar the B teams and the other 6 Super League sides will contest the preliminary round.
  • Only the Semi-Finals and the Final of the Cup will be played in Inkopolis City Stadium as a neutral site, all other matches will be played at the home ground of the team that was drawn first.
  • The B teams of Inkopolis FC and FC Squidroidia Squidbreak may not qualify for promotion to the Super League in any capacity, the Squidroidian Cup and IFCF competition.

In addition, the parties also agreed on the establishment of a Under 19s youth league, known as the Squidroidian Youth League, featuring the U19 sides of 12 of the 14 main teams (Tyranny Sports Club and TryHard Sporting won't send their youth teams to the SYL). The format of the league is as follows:

  • Each of the teams will play each other once at home and once away, making a total of 22 games in the main season.
  • 3 points will be given out for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 for a loss.
  • At the end of the main season, the top 6 teams qualify for the Finals Series.
  • Each of the 6 teams in the Finals Series will have their main season points wiped, and as a result will play each other once. Same point system applies.
  • The top 2 remaining teams will play in the Final of the Squidroidian Youth League at the home stadium of the team that finished 1st in the Finals Series. This can be the U19 team's home stadium or the home stadium of the senior team.
  • The winner of the Final is crowned champions of the Squidroidian Youth League and is given a berth in the IFCF Rising Stars Cup.
  • If the senior side of that club reaches the IFCF Champions League group stage and has already won the Youth League the previous season, that spot will go to the team that finished runners-up in the Final,

INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL

Squidroidia 3-1 Sharktail
An incredible national team debut from the Inklings as they prepare for the Euro Cup Eurasies
June 21st, 2020

It was a sight never before seen in Squidroidian football history - 50,000 fans, human and Inkling, crowding the stands of Inkopolis City Stadium to see Squidroidia's first ever national football team game. Ryūzaki Mito's squad wasn't expecting much, as they were just preparing for their first ever tournament, the Europe region's Euro Cup Eurasies. Their opponent however, the Melayu Archipelago nation of Sharktail, were ranked 109th in the multiverse according to the KFB rankings and were preparing for the upcoming Cup of Harmony in Zwangzug and Kelssek against the likes of TJUN-la and Garifunya. Pundits up and down the nations expected Sharktail to win - Before this final game in Cup of Harmony preparation, the Blue Preadator had gone unbeaten, winning against Twicetagria and The Jovannic and only drawing to Sylestone at home. For Sharktail it felt like a routine win.

They would be embarrassed against the debutantes.

In the 19th minute Squidroidia scored its first ever national team goal, as Inkopolis FC midfielder Jo Jun crossed the ball into club teammate Morihei Nariaki, who flicked the ball to Yoneda Toshikuni to kick the ball into the back of the net from 6 yards out. Toshikuni, acting as attacking mid for the first half, celebrated by running up to the Sharktail away stand and shushing them while his national team buddies hugged him for pulling off Squidroidia's first goal. However, Sharktail would equalize before the first half to set the score at 1-1 heading into halftime. Speaking to his players in the locker room, Mito had some choice words.

"Guys, I know we're only halfway into our national team debut, but we are doing an amazing job. Toshikuni, what a spectacular goal you scored to take the lead early in the game!"

"Thanks boss, it was just a little bit of luck, but I'm glad it means something."

"To be honest, I thought it was going to be much worse. I was expecting the Blue Predator to flatten us into sheets of paper and win 5-0 or something, but 1-1 is spectacular for a debut!"

Then came IFC goalkeeper Go Kyushichi.

"Boss, I was out of my depth when Sharktail scored that goa-"

”LISTEN HERE NAIVE! YOU WILL CONCENTRATE! YOU WILL STOP COMPLAINING! YOU WILL TOLERATE BEING A NATIONAL TEAM GOALKEEPER! NOW DO US ALL A FAVOR, STOP EATING TWINKIES, DROP ONE FOURTH OF YOUR BODY FAT AND SHUT THE FUCK UP!”

Everyone was silent. At the start of the 2nd half, Kyushichi was replaced by Takemoto Shingen of Real Squidroid CF. He would keep all the Sharktail shots out of the net.

Squidroidia took the lead back in the 56th minute, this time by Toujou Shihei of the Squidbreak, who dashed through the Sharktail defense before slotting his goal in the bottom corner. Squidroidians couldn't believe what the hell they were witnessing! Their national team was beating up a Cup of Harmony squad! It was an upset for the ages, and Amagawa Katsuyoshi's off the bench strike in the dying minutes of stoppage time sealed the deal. It was Squidroidia 3, Sharktail 1 and this national team was ready to roar against the best in Europe.

A member of a defense that didn't allow another Sharktail goal in the 2nd half while running to the other end to notch his own goal for Squidroidia, the Squidroidia Squidbreak star has a heart of iron and a slide tackle to fool Sharktail players, and that's why we're giving him the Man of the Match award.
