From 1288 until 1898, all coin denominations of Tomi were in powers of 2, written out using the Japanese tally mark system. The “one” kanji over the dividing bar, and the tallies beneath. The “sixth tally” was marked by drawing a circle around the completed five tallies. In this same time period, notes were printed only in powers of ten.

In 1898, following the Japanese Empire’s Meiji Restoration and introduction to relations with the West, the Yomese Empire revamped all measurement systems in the Western Inclusion Act. Since then, all three systems of measurement have been used interchangeably: the English Imperial, the Metric, and the Yomese Imperial, where all units are 11/10 of Metric units. This revamp included changing the monetary system to a more Western style, which proved to be more efficient. Twenty years later, the T0.02 and T0.20 coins, as well as the T2 and T25 bills were phased out of circulation for lack of necessity in the Currency Reevaluation Act. All discontinued currency now exists as collector’s items, and are worth more than their face value.

While pure gold was used for coins from 1288 to 1898, the new coinage and knowledge allowed room for innovation. From 1898 onward, all coins are plated with pink gold and have a nickel core so that they may be picked up with magnets. They may be painted different colors for any assortment of reasons, but all have the same underlying composition. All coinage has on its reverse the crest of the imperial family, and on its obverse the crest of the royal family of the state of its origin. The only exception is the imperial capital, which instead used a portrait of the founder Lady Ninetails from 1898 to 1971, and the crest of Mother Amaterasu since 1971. The 50 and 25 coins are circular and nonagonal respectively with a 3cm diameter. The 10 and 5 coins are nonagonal and circular respectively with a 2.5cm diameter. The 1 coin is octagonal with a square hole and a 1.5cm diameter. All coins have a thickness of 2mm.

Yomese banknotes are updated annually to feature the most recent portraits of the imperial family, with the exception of individual states being allowed once every decade to produce bills with faces of their own leaders on them. This does not affect the bill outside of commemorative purposes, as bills are sorted by color. All bills are tinted as follows: 1=ace092, 5=ff8c8c, 10=F2ca8a, 20=aaaebd, 50=bdcbfc, 100=fce747. With the sole exception of the 100 itself, larger bills continue to follow the pattern established by 1, 5, 10, 20, and 50. The order of the faces on the bill will follow the pattern Queen, King, Princesses from oldest to youngest, Princes from oldest to youngest. Whether it is in ascending or descending value is chosen once every time a new queen takes the throne, and all large bills will use the queen’s portrait. The back of all bills features an image of the Inari Shrine in Kyoto, Japan.
