IBS XI Signup Thread (Signups CLOSED)

Postby Nova Anglicana » Mon Jun 08, 2020 8:26 am

Welcome to signups for International Baseball Slam XI: The Eleventh Edition! This is a revival of the IBS, a minor baseball tournament between WBCs previously run by Gregoryisgodistan and Super-Llamaland. I am bringing this back because of personal interest, but also as a way to keep up baseball enthusiasm between WBCs and allow for new nations or nations that do not traditionally compete in the WBC to try out baseball RPing.

To signup, simply post your nation name and a nickname, in the following format:

Nova Anglicana Lions

If you wish to enter a domestic club team, your signup should look like this:

Domestic club team name + nickname (nation name)

Example: Vinovium Gunners (Nova Anglicana)

Host bids are welcome, and this is a good chance for nations to host their first event, though it is not recommended you bid unless you have at least some experience RPing in this subforum. Hosting previous events is by no means a prerequisite, but at least participating and actively RPing so you get a feel for how things work probably is. Your bid won't be rejected as long as it includes all required information, but bids by brand new users are unlikely to win.

The host bid deadline is set for Sunday, June 21st at 12:00 AM (midnight) EST (UTC-4). Host voting may begin early if we have only one host bid, no other likely bidders, and significant interest. After that, we will vote on hosts and then the tournament will be turned over to the host(s). Signups will remain open through the end of the host voting, but any nations who sign up after host voting starts are ineligible to vote, as will the bidder(s).

Here is the winning bid from IBS IX, by Nova Anglicana.

Here is the winning bid from IBS X, by Schiltzberg and Frenline Delpha.

The bids should resemble those two bids in format, somewhat, and include similar information. Please note that previous editions of the IBS have used both the series format and the single-game format. Both are acceptable in host bids.

There were previously IBS ranks. However, since a significant amount of time has elapsed between edition of the IBS, no ranks will be used for this edition. ICly, and I hope going forward, the explanation for this is that no senior national teams of nations that are ranked in the WBC will be competing. Instead, established nations should feel free to send backup national team squads, college all-stars, domestic minor leaguers, U18/U21 squads, a domestic club team, or some other collection of players. Have fun with it and use this tournament to flesh out your baseball worldbuilding! Nations not ranked in the WBC or competing in a baseball event for the first time should feel free to enter a senior national team if they so choose.

Puppets are allowed at a maximum of one per nation and must be confirmed by the master nation, but in the end, it is up to the host whether to include them or not. This post also acts as a signup for Nova Anglicana.

LLAMANEAN HOST BID FOR IBS 11

National Info

Super-Llamaland is a beautiful and diverse nation, from the serene forests of Kyrinson to the spectacular gray cliffs of Los-Juantos. Located in Esportiva, the nation of roughly forty-six million people is known for a successful democratic socialist government, some of the most environmentally-friendly policies in the world, and an absurdly well-funded educational system. Baseball is not only by far the most popular sport in the nation, but arguably the only sport Super-Llamaland has found international success at, with five WBC championships to the nation’s name. As the nation returns from a ten-year period of isolation, they believe the best way to mark their return to the international community is by hosting the tournament that they once founded.

The user behind Super-Llamaland is a returning user who used to actively participate in NS Sports baseball, participating in WBC 23-32, 34-43, and IBS 1-7. Super-Llamaland has previously hosted a number of tournaments, most notably World Baseball Classic 30 and Cup of Harmony 67. They also served as World Baseball Classic president before a temporary retirement from NS Sports, and also hosted a number of smaller tournaments such as IBS 1 and 3, the seventh International Firestorm Cup, and the second Watterson Bowl.

Format

There will be a double round-robin group stage format with three-game series, followed by single-elimination playoffs consisting of best-of-three series (besides the finals, which will be best-of-five). Group sizes for specific numbers of entries will be added before host voting starts so we can have a better idea of how much interest there is before committing to a specific format. However, I would prefer slightly smaller groups and slightly more nations qualifying for the playoffs, in order to make the tournament more beginner-friendly. If feasible, the group draw will be live (likely on Discord).

If two teams within a group are tied at the end of the group stage, and breaking the tie would decide who advances to the playoffs, a one-game playoff will be played to determine who advances to the playoffs. Otherwise, ties will be broken in the following order: Run Differential, H2H Record, Total RP Bonus (which IC-ly will be a coin flip). These criteria will also be used to break ties for seeding purposes (as teams will be reseeded before the playoffs begin).

6/14 Update: It looks like we have 17 signups as of this edit, and are unlikely to get to 32, so this bid will very likely use groups of four with the top two teams in each group advancing. Some number of teams will go to a play-in round, while the rest will automatically qualify for the quarterfinals. If selected to host, I would close signups as soon as a multiple of 4 was reached.

Scorination

The most recent version of Baseinator will be used.

RP bonus will be cumulative, with RPs being judged by quality over quantity. RP Bonus will be degraded by 50% after the group stage.
