I've actually been to a couple high-end watering holes and they're often pretty important places for socioeconomic elites to mingle and discuss business in a somewhat more casual setting. There's also the boys'/girls' night out and the parallels to earlier mead halls and such.

Because the communal lowering of inhibitions allows for a particular sort of camaraderie that might be less likely to occur in its absence. Mind you, I'm not much of a drinker myself, mostly because I'm a super lightweight and don't want to fall asleep everywhere.

Liver damage is the one issue that won't really be counteracted by cultural shifts towards moral responsibility. Teaching people about consent and about sexuality more generally has been shown to diminish the occurrence of sexual assault in college-aged men. Additionally, with services like Uber becoming more widely available, there are now alternatives to drunk driving - and, if we stigmatize the tough guy "I'm okay to drive" attitude a little bit more, a lot of the harm can be mitigated.

Because Dionysus will wreak havoc on us if we shun him.

yes, teaching people about consent reduces the occurrence of sexual assault when a person is sober or otherwise working at full capacity, but the point of drinking is that it weakens boundaries and inhibits proper decision-making.
The kind of person who would have a tough guy "i'm okay to drive" attitude is likely not going to be receptive to shaming -- look at how defensive that type of man gets when anyone brings up the phrase "toxic masculinity" and think about how you'd manage to get them to not be overconfident in their driving abilities

So men and women should drink separately.

By relocating drinking from bars to private homes, that's how.
