Hey, if hamburgers are the opposite of spinach, I won't complain.

Popeye would eat spinach cold straight out of the can. This was supposed to be a positive role model for kids (eat your veggies) but I hope it wasn't. Because spinach would make him super strong and unjustifiably violent ... it probably led to more steroid abuse than spinach eating.

I rather like spinach tho. You have to interleave it with onions or almonds of bits of meat so it doesn't turn into a gluggy mass.

I also used to like Aloo Palak, which is a spinach curry. I ate it too many times though, now it's a bit boring.

Is the naming of the restaurant in any way related to the cartoon? I have watched years ago

No, the founder claimed he got the idea from Popeye Doyle in the French Connection when he gave it the name in 1975, though they would buy advertising rights from King Features Syndicate for the sailor.

The answer is no; while it was named after a fictional character, it wasn't named after the sailor:
Alvin C. Copeland claimed he named the stores after the fictional detective Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle in the movie The French Connection, and not the comic strip character Popeye the Sailor.

Interesting

I have never tried this restaurant. How does it measure up against its competitors on the industry?

Wendy's. I like their burgers.

McDonald's is convenient, but not my favourite.

Five Guys are the best I've had, though not sure if it's partly the novelty as they aren't local so when we have one we tend to be away on a break somewhere. Burger King is good also. Dominos for pizza.

Actually, the first time I tried a Popeye's was in HK. Pretty okay.

Bunch of relatives dislike Domino's. I have no idea why, it's pretty good. Had it a lot while we were in the US.

Dominos, I stan.

Well, there's either that or the recently-arrived Pizza Hut; or a South African chain.

Nanatsu no Tsuki wrote:Is Chick-Fil-A actually good? I’ve seen the restaurants around but have never felt curious enough to eat there.

I have a theory, and others will likely disagree.

But here it is. I had never seen a chick-fil-a in my life. Barely even heard of it, remembered there was something about their 'eat mor chiken' ads with cows holding the signs, but that's about it. But I love chicken. Not even that into beef, I just like chicken. If it weren't for chicken and some types of sausage (mostly chicken) I probably could go vegetarian and not even need Beyond meat.

So when one opened near where I was staying they sent out a coupon for a free sandwich and I thought, "Groovy, I like chicken, this is a famous chicken joint..."

It. Was. Terrible.

Bland, rubbery, more texture than taste. Just awful. And it's not even like "Oh, new joint, everyone's not up to speed yet." It was definitely an ingredients problem. It was so bad.

Which, I feel, is how I would react to a McDonald's hamburger if the first one I had was as an adult. As it is, as an adult, I have an awareness that it's a terrible hamburger, but there's something kind of nostalgic in eating it. That at some point as a kid I viewed McDonalds as a reward.

So my theory is that people only like Chick-fil-a because they grew up with it or had it at a time when they just had bad taste.

This was before I was aware of their whole deal with the gay community. So they became easy to 'boycott' because I was never going to go back anyway because ew.
