“You don’t mind, do you?”

Lazaga shook her head, and Bibie Behety proceeded to light up her cigarette. They sat at a canalside, Donnaconan-style café in Ibarbe, a high-income city part of Greater Rumiatzi. Its vast areas of green suburban sprawl were a popular living solution for northern Rumiatzi's family-minded investment bankers, lawyers, doctors... and professional footballers. Among the latter was Azeari Duarte, star player for Royal Rumiatzi and the national team, who'd spent several million dirus to purchase a mansion in the hills of Ibarbe. An important, and often overlooked, element of footballers' lives was their families, and Lazaga had thus arranged an interview with Duarte's wife this morning. Behety had arrived in plaid trousers, a white silk blouse, a denim jacket inlaid with leopard-print panels, and a Barrertze handbag that stared at Lazaga, its interlocking Bs and laurels finely embroidered with golden thread.

“So what’s this interview about, exactly? What do you want to know?”

“I… this interview, as I explained, is for my doctoral research at Nayurrieta. It’s focussed on the people behind the national team and what it does, the social relations involved. That includes families. So… maybe we should start with a bit about you. You were born here in Rumiatzi, right?”

“Right, yeah. I was born in ’54, at Gorostiaga,” said Behety, setting down her cappuccino. Gorostiaga was a private hospital in Kondarraka, the same borough as Royal Rumiatzi’s Knights’ Stadium. “My dad was an agent for football players, he had a lot of connections with all the clubs in the city and especially Royal Rumiatzi. My mother worked for the Royal Disability Service. I have four older siblings, three sisters and one brother. What else? We lived in Kondarraka when I was younger, then grew up in Bakarnacharriba.” A neighbouring borough, on the border between Rumiatzi itself and Ibarbe.

Lazaga took a sip of her own coffee. “You went to school around those places, I assume.”

“Yeah. I was at Duchess Miren until grade 3, then The Edwards School until I graduated.” The Edwards School? A well-known private institution, with an all-English international curriculum run by expatriates from Civil Citizenry. “After that I studied Business at IEF.”

This took Lazaga by surprise, which she tried not to betray. She’d done her research, but there wasn’t much available on Behety and no mention of IEF, which was the acronym for the Business School at Astograth University VI-Ameskoa, among the best in the country.

“You studied at IEF, wow. I didn’t know that. You met Azeari around that time?”

Their waiter interrupted them, asking if they’d like something to eat. Lazaga darted her eyes to the small placard on the table and ordered a pain au chocolat, while Behety waved him off asking for ‘her usual’.

“Anyway yeah, my dad was his agent. We met at his office when I was 21, he was 22. We’ve been together since, got married five years ago.”

“And you’re his agent as well.”

“That’s right. I was never really interested in being an agent, but my dad had taught me some things and when he retired – um, nearly two years ago now – Azeari and I decided that it’d be best for me to take over as his agent.”

“Interesting. How’s that worked out?”

Behety put out her cigarette, shrugged slightly and smiled widely, revealing stark white teeth, “Just fine. We’ve had no issues so far, but the worst we’ve had to deal with is taxes. We’ve had some initial talks with Rumiatzi over contract renewal, but they’re putting it off for next season. So that’ll be interesting, when we get there.”

“You want to renew, I assume?”

Behety smirked and looked her up and down. “I was told you weren’t press,” she said, then laughed when Lazaga turned red, “I’m teasing. But no, I can’t talk any serious business.” She paused, then added “If you were press, though, I’d tell you we were entertaining some big offers from Iturributa,” and laughed again.

Lazaga laughed with her, easing slowly while the waiter served them the pastries they’d ordered. “Well, changing topics a bit, you have four children, right? How does it work, raising a family with him gone so much?”

“Good time management,” said Behety matter-of-factly, picking at ‘her usual’: a minuscule apple tartelette. “That and good domestic help. He’s a good dad, always tries to be there for the important dates, he calls a lot. We’re so interconnected nowadays, you know, that he never feels far away.” She took a bite of apple pastry. “It’s a very normal family life,” she added, and Lazaga couldn’t help but doubt that.

“Um, in your work as agent – would you say you’ve encounted sexism? Is there a problem with sexism in our football, maybe?”

Behety frowned, and looked up at the skyline around them. “Mm, no, no. I don’t think so. Why?”

Lazaga was taken aback somewhat. “I ask because nearly everyone involved in the industry is male. I’ve heard from some sources that they’ve been trea-”

“No, sorry. I think that’s bullshit.”

The researched nodded slowly, and desisted. “Well, um, in that vein, and as a woman involved in football, do you have any opinion regarding women’s football in Astograth?”

Her counterpart put on a face. “Never heard of it, really. They don’t make the news and I’m not involved beyond being my husband’s agent.”

“What would you think of women players on the national team?”

Now Behety scoffed. “Darling, do you have an agenda? It’s never going to happen. The level’s not there. And that’s not sexism, it’s biology.” She took another bite from her tartelette, then took her handbag and excused herself to the women’s room. Lazaga waited twenty minutes before figuring out she’d dashed.

Celtic Footballers Suffer Bruising Defeats in World Cup Qualifiers
Edinburgh, Alba

Celtic footballers and fans are sulking in 12th place out of 13 teams in Group 3 of the World Cup Qualifiers. After being stomped by Savojarna in a merciless 3-0 match, the footballers from Alba and Cymru return home to a partially damaged Seumas Field Stadium after a mob of angry fans forced their way into the facility and vandalized food distribution facilities. Now sitting at 2 wins, 3 ties, and 5 losses, Alba and Cymru is highly unlikely to be viable for a spot at the World Cup, so preparations are being made for the upcoming Cup of Harmony.

"We're extremely disappointed," lamented team captain Conchúr MacGregor. "We went into this league with the highest of expectations, but now our asses are being handed to. We're doing the best we can, but this is definitely not our caliber of competition. There's no way out of this, though. The only way to go from here is forward. We can pick up as many wins as possible, play as aggressively as possible, because now we don't have much to lose."

"You win some, and you lose some," said vice-captain Not Lionel Messi. "In our case, it's a truck-load of losses. It's a sad sight to see. We're playing quite pitifully against these giants. I apologize to the fans who aren't having a good time right now, but trust me, we're kicking ourselves as much as you are."

"No matter the record, we have to end this out on a good note," said Teàrlach Levenax, holding an Orthochronica. "It hasn't been the best run, and it definitely hasn't been the season we wanted, but there is still a future for this program. It just takes time to get used to this. Fate will be on our side in the coming years."

"Cup of Harmony, here we come," said Diarmuid MacNab in a sarcastic tone. He declined to comment further.

"The fact of the matter is that we weren't prepared for this level of competition," said team manager Coinneach MacDunn. "We did very well in the Baptism of Fire, but we were up against other teams like us then. This is new territory for us, and we haven't had the best of luck. My men have put up one hell of a fight, but other nations have better-built teams, more sponsors, and more resources on their hands, and well, Alba and Cymru doesn't have that. We're still going to stick by our old philosophy of defense. We really need to cut down on allowing goals. A loss is a loss, yes, but an 0-1 loss looks much better and much more well-fought than an 0-3 loss. A matter of fact, I'll switch it up: de Tarancón and Colquhoun are going to be up front in the next two matches, and I'm subbing out Eisenhauer and Wes Seaxe for Gewissæ and McCulloch. We'll see how it goes."

The Celtic footballers are due up to take on Terre Septentrionale and Sanctanus, looking to mess up the orderings of Group 3 as much as possible before game 24.

Current Standings:
- Group 3 Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts

The Orthochronica
Chapter 85, "Na Bunaitean" (The Orderings)

In this Chapter given to Áed (c. 937) by Sgriosadair - a member of the Tuath Naomh - a description of the layers of the Earth is expressed in detail. The latter part of the chapter condemns the Pope for his cruelty against the Uaislean.

The Word of Sgriosadair, as it concerns the Heavens and the Earth:

1 This is My word. Do you recall the orderings of the Earth?
2 And how the Dagda created everything therein?
3 Behold! The Dagda has founded the Earth [in layers] and has set about orderings around it.
4 And the lowest of the low is the depths of Tartarus, which no man has set eyes upon. It is here where the rebels of the Dagda reside1. And therein is where none shall speak nor whisper, for the fog which covers it is suffocating.
5 It is here where those [Tuath Dé and Aos Sí] who rebelled against righteousness reside. They shall never see the light!
6 And above that the Dagda has set a balance2 therein, where the Guardians keep watch over the abyss.
7 And above that the Dagda has planted the gardens of Elysium, which have been [completely] corrupted by the Flood. It is here where the wicked reside, those who do not believe in Fate, and those who persecute the Noble Ones.
8 The Dagda has promised a cleansing fire upon the Elysium in the coming Requiem, and all within it shall perish in the flames.
9 And above that the Dagda has set the foundations of that which is within the Earth, and the chambers which hold what forms the mountains.
10 And above that the Dagda has set the surface of the Earth, which all the beasts reside.

11 But there are those who make slanders against the righteous ones, and those who inflict pain upon them,
12 Like those which reside over the lands of all of Europe and Asia in their [fortified] cities.
13 They will have their place in the accursed Plains.
14 And the Dagda promises a coming victory for your people3 [O Noble Ones], and a swift downfall to the enemy.
15 Their lands will be broken into dust and scattered with the wind. Their hands will be against one another.
16 And the lands of the Noble Ones will be over the lands of the wicked. This is My Word.

1 - The lowest of the low are the rebellious Tuath Dé and Aos Sí reside, such as Balor and Nimrod. They were cast into Tartarus after the War of the Diluvian, which destroyed the entire world by a flood.
2 - The balance - or commonly translated as "the bridge", though this is less accurate - is a space between Elysium and Tartarus. This is where "Warden" Tuath Dé keep watch over Tartarus to keep the rebellious individuals within it.
3 - Celtic Nations like Alba and Cymru and Ole Eire are among the most prosperous nations of Europe today, which is a clear victory.
Here is the World Cup Roster.

The recent riots in Columbus due to the passing of the Law of Secession quickly became the main current event in Valladares, with millions of citizens watching the developments at the former Valladar capital. Several events that were due to be held in the city and its surroundings, such as the anniversary of the torching of the Palacio Quemado that marked the start of the Second Valladar Uprising (known as Bonfire Night), were cancelled by the city authorities due to security concerns. Football was not the exception, with local team FC Columbus forced to cancel a Liga-2 match that was scheduled to be played on the day the riots started.

The Valladar Football Association was also pretty worried, since Columbus' Estadio Parque Armenia had been chosen as the venue for the World Cup qualification match between the Valladar national football team and their counterparts from Twicetagria which was due to be played in a couple of days, and the city was on fire by the rioting. The safety conditions were far from ideal and time was not on the favor of the VFA executives, who had to make a swift decision regarding the venue of this match.

"The situation in Columbus does not look good. Rioting, looting, and vandalism everywhere, the Royal Army in the streets doing the Police's job...confirming Parque Armenia as the venue for that match would be taking a huge risk."

"At this rate I think the best we can do is postponing or rescheduling this match for another date when the situation in Columbus has calmed down."

"Postponing or rescheduling the match is not an option. The WCC won't allow it. What about choosing another stadium for it? We could make a exchange of venues with another match and leave Columbus to host another game when the situation has calmed down, in order to prevent the fans that bought their tickets for this match from losing their money or requesting refunding."

"That could work. In fact, it's the most sensible solution right now. But which venue are we switching for Columbus?"

"Let's see...we already played at Canalave, Campo Grande, Fontvielle..."

"Oh, Fontvielle. I guess Fontvielle Impact will close the door on the NT using their stadium for any future matches, after that scandal with those vandals from Sharktail. That reminds me, we've got to do something to prevent that from happening again..."

"Eterna was also used already, we've just beat The Macabees there. That leaves Metropolis, Slateport, Swangard, Junín, Carloburgo, and Pradera."

"Swangard is not being used against anyone not Baker Park, period. Metropolis is, logistically, the most feasible choice. However, they have the match against Mkabia which comes right after this one. It might be too soon for the situation to subside in Columbus. We're not taking them to Junín, either. Too far away from the mainland."

"So that leaves the west: Slateport, Carloburgo, and last but no least, Pradera."

"Who's going to Pradera right now?"

"Hmmm..."

Cerro, District of Metropolis, June 3rd, 2020

FROM: Valladar Football Association
TO: Twicetargia Football Association
CC: Bushkrub Football Association, World Cup Committee

SUBJECT: Change of venue for Valladares vs. Twicetargia WCQ match

Receive a cordial and warm greeting from the Valladar Football Association. As you know, the match between the national football teams of Valladares and Twicetargia, valid for the thirteenth matchday of qualifying Group 5 for the 85th World Cup edition, was originally scheduled to be played at Estadio Parque Armenia in the city of Columbus at 20:00 local time next Wednesday, according to the schedule released by the World Cup Committee and the stadium allocation announced by the Valladar Football Association.

However, during the most recent week, the city of Columbus has had public order disturbances due to intercommunity riots, which have required the intervention of the II Division of the Valladar Royal Army to keep order in the city. Given that we consider that the safety conditions for a match of the calliber of a World Cup qualifier are not met at the present time, and after receiving some advice on the matter from the civil and military authorities of Columbus, which believe that holding a mass gathering event could potentially exacerbate the situation, we would like to confirm to you that the match will be played at Estadio de la Montaña in the city of Pradera, capital of the Antioquia state at the originally scheduled kick-off time, instead of the original venue Estadio Parque Armenia in Columbus.

We are aware that this change comes at a very unconvenient time, however, the Valladar Football Association wishes to offer to pay any and all extra expenses that might come from this rescheduling, such as flight tickets from Metropolis to Pradera, hotel bookings, intra-city transportation, among others as compensation for the sudden change of venue for the match, motivated by reasons of force majeure. Also, we would like to inform you that due with previous incidents with visiting foreign fans during this World Cup qualifying campaign, ticket allocation for visiting fans will be capped at 500, instead of the original 2,000 tickets.

The match against Bushkrub, originally scheduled at Estadio de la Montaña, will be played at a venue to be confirmed in due time, pending new developments on the current situation in the city of Columbus.

Yours,

François Boudou

THE GLOBAL LEAGUE - PART THREE
An Emplor series comparing different countries - if they could only field players from Euraleague
Report by our chief clickbaity listicle correspondent Jedrick Toddle

Welcome back to our wonderful new series, The Global League - Part Two! We're building national teams from Euraleague squads to face off against each other in a special one off simulation. As a reminder, here are the rules we are playing by:

- Each team must have a full lineup of 11 players, including one goalkeeper. Shock horror.
- All players must currently play in "Euraleague", ie. the top three tiers of Euran football (Gold League, Silver League, Bronze League).
- Inactive players do not count, so that means no Keith Rowland for Nephara for example.
- If a country has an overwhelming amount of good players in Eura, we may create a "B" team, or include honourable mentions.
- Teams don't have to stick to a consistent formation - for example some teams might have two forwards, some three.

Once again we have news from Mr Nobblegoose (The Third) at our partners Wankleton Industries. He had this to say about the latest progress on the technical solution for our brilliant simulation:

"We've got the phase one decombobulator working, but I can't get the reverse spunker to stop fraggling the wotsits. And don't even get me started on the nurpsicles-"

I don't know what any of that meant, and I'm sure its better that we don't! Nephara were the subjects of part two, among the juggernauts of world club football. Yet its their former national sidekick that interests us this time...

TEAM #3:

Image

BRENECIA
Formation: 4-4-2
Captain: Gethin Quill

Similar to Nepharim, Brenecian footballers have a very good brand and there's so many of them that they can come surprisingly cheap. Their domestic league has become one of the worlds strongest in recent years - although compared to Eura and Nephara it probably has less strength in depth, with two sides reigning supreme. Perhaps it is that which has led to a situation where relatively small Brenecia has exported hundreds of decent footballers around the IFCF leagues. They have taken a particular liking to Eura, which is home to practically the core of the Brenecian national team. From Euraleague alone, we can put together a pretty handy and well rounded Brenecian team:

Opal Cairncross - GK - 29 - Marketville - Its between Cairncross and Finnan, and Cairncross edges it. Came to Eura as a complete no-hoper and turned her career around, eventually earning a brief one as number one for Brenecia. She's slipped down the order now, but is at least an established starting keeper in a top league.

Morwen Prentice - 25 - LB - Farrenton Athletic - Ok, so, slight problem - we can't find any genuinely good Brenecian right backs in Euraleague (Chase Clifford was the best we could do? Really? - Ed.) Luckily, they have two top class left backs. We've somewhat controversially decided to play the highly talented Prentice, currently national team first choice, on the right.

Finn Leadbetter - 23 - CB - Hornchurch - Comfortably the best Brenecian centreback in Eura, and probably the best Brenecian centreback there is at all. He was signed as a relatively low expectations buy but has quickly developed into a mature, assured presence at the back with an air of grace and calm about him. He's almost more Euran in character.

Brutus Rutherford - 22 - CB - Brigham - This guy is more like it. Typical Brenecian defender; a massive dickhead from start to finish. He's talented though and quite the physical role model for other centrebacks to follow, a real brawler.

Gethin Quill - 30 - LB - Revolutionaries - The best Brenecian to ever play in Eura and one of the best Brenecian players - the best Brenecian left back, at least - of all time. He's retired from international football in real life having been supplanted by Prentice, but we couldn't not include him when he's still in the prime of his club career. We made him captain as well.

Lauren Cheney - 26 - RW - Spartangrad - Cheney is what male writers would describe as a "feisty" woman in less progressive, egalitarian times gone by. She does ironically exist on a plane of overconfidence and self-belief usually observed in privileged men of the ruling elite rather than a gritty Brenecian sportswoman. But the longer her career has gone on, the more that overconfidence appears to be less over and more confidence. Cheney is a phenomenal winger who has everything; pace, an eye for goal, crossing ability and top of the range dribbling and ball skills. Quill might be the most iconic figure here but Cheney is the one who is currently most influential on the pitch right now.

Harper Conroy - 33 - CM - Holdenberg City - Conroy is a decent enough centre midfielder and a former international. However they probably are the weak link in this midfield. It had to be someone, right?

Elysse Matheson - 26 - CM - Hornchurch - We've probably treated Matheson quite harshly by not making her captain, but Quill's inclusion made it a difficult choice. Were he retired though Matheson would no doubt captain this side as she does the actual national team. A fascinating combination of typical Brenecian traits with a more international flavour, Matheson demonstrates all the good qualities of a dominating central midfielder at the top level. She will surely move to a bigger club before long.

Ceirdwen Fletcher - 26 - LM - Holdenberg - This was the toughest spot to pick with Fletcher and Keynes battling it out. In the end though Fletcher wins it on form, ripping it up for Holdenberg and her country. She works particularly well cross-field with Cheney, and boasts perhaps the best creative abilities in the team. Oskar Holsteiner has certainly benefited nicely from her supply of crosses and cutbacks at Holdenberg.

Kara Ciogach - 28 - ST - Lajuno - Originally a Schottian, Ciogach is a terrific striker, the latest in a long line of foreign Lajuno forwards to thrive in Gold League. For her country she arguably is one of the "core players" and one of the easiest choices for the team.

Niall Bremner - 27 - ST - Unioneers - Bremner's inclusion is a bit like that of Cairncross; proof that you can achieve anything if you work hard enough. Bremner arrived in Eura as a nobody and proved himself, and unusually for an imported striker in Eura has actually improved year on year since arriving. What's more he might have actually been more important to Ciogach for the international team, as his emergence ended a long lasting dearth of striking options for the side that does not seem to be a problem now.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS:
Anthea Finnan - 23 - GK - Brigham
Cheney Heneghan - 33 - CB - Carsby
Westley Carlisle - 25 - LB - Old Boys Club
Mhacha White - 21 - ST - Farrenton Athletic
Gerhard Colvyn - 26 - ST - Old Boys Club
Cathal Keynes - 27 - LW - Lajuno
Craig Mawson - 31 - CM - Usmer
Donal Chance - 25 - LW - Usmer
Matt Ruffan - 33 - CDM - WEA
Leo Radney - 28 - ST - WEA
Kari Hollows - 29 - CB - Workers Union
Chase Clifford - 31 - RB/LB - Ulsa Rovers
Constance Stroud - 23 - LW - Workers Union
Cliff Hardin - 27 - CDM/CM - Nukon
Shannon Kermode - 27 - CDM - Sword

As with Nephara there's a fair few honourable mentions, but this time we're not going to do anything silly like make a team out of them. The unluckiest player on here by far is Keynes, pipped narrowly by Fletcher. Other particularly notable names include Finnan, former national team starters Heneghan and Ruffan, young wingers Chance and Stroud, and Craig Mawson, an underrated journeyman who has become one of the most popular Brenecian footballers in Eura, despite being barely known at home.

'Disaster. Sorrow. Wallowing!'
'Oh stop it now, you're being over dramatic.'
'No I'm not! It's all over, we're doomed. Doomed I tell you!'
'Snap out of it!' Rhea, overwhelmed with frustration, swiped a jug and poured from the white marked tap a whole lot of ice cold water. Skorji looked at her, ironically, as cold as ice. 'Don't you do it...'
'You need to chill out.'
'No I don't.'
'Yes, you need to...cool off...'
'I swear upon the Oslograd family name, if you come near me with that thing, we're done.'
'Ok then...' Momentarily Rhea lowered the jug, lulling Skorji into a false sense of security. Then she ambushed him, throwing it all over the Expats manager - and her lover - in the blink of an eye.

'FUCKING WHAT, ARRRGH!'
'There we go. All better?'
'Fucking...ugh...what is wrong with you?'
'Just doing what you do when you're stressed, honey. Giving adversity the cold shoulder.' He was so cold he couldn't summon the words to point how absurd that sentence was with or without yet another pun, not that he had a leg to stand on when it came to nonsensical turns of phrase. 'F-f-f-fine, fuck, just past me a towel damn you.' She sighed, drew a little handtowel from the drawers and threw it at him. 'You can't keep going on like this. Ok, qualifying hasn't been great-'
'"Hasn't been great?" We're on five points. Five! We've gone backwards, somehow.'
'Well, I don't want to be a backseat driver but...maybe the money obsession isn't helping?' Skorji twitched with annoyance. 'Damn them. Its the FA's fault. I just wanted to fix things without having to compromise on my philosophy, my dear.'

The Territories had been dire in qualifying for the 85th World Cup. Defeats against Turori and Audioslavia were not unexpected, but almost every other game had been a disaster. Apart from drawing against TJUN-ia and a bizarre 4-5 win in Necosia, they had lost every game, including a humiliating 2-6 home defeat to Muradil, and Skorji knew exactly why. 'Maybe its time to throw in the towel' he said, throwing the towel into the laundry bin. 'Any other manager would have been sacked, even if this isn't my blasted fault.'
'You're doing it again. Why are you where you are?'
'Because of the money situation, er, "distracting" the team.' He was right. Unbeknownst to the outside world, the Territories football association had been driven to near bankruptcy in recent times and to make up the costs, Oslograd had been spending all of his time on various moneymaking schemes to try and make up the difference. To make matters worse he'd had to get the players in on them too. The end result was catastrophic; EOT's players were out of shape and exhausted going into every game from all the fundraising dinners and pyramid schemes they spent all day scraping the barrel from. Meanwhile, Oslograd had no capacity to actually manage the team properly.

Relief of the most minuscule quantity would be provided by the result in Sajnur the night before. The Expats snatched a 1-1 draw, their first point in many games, and a lifeline. Qualifying seemed impossible now, but just for once, Oslograd wanted to get close. And that meant hitting a run of form from now to the end of qualifying, with the added objective of securing a place in the Cup of Harmony. Nevertheless, he couldn't do any of this unless he could take the financial burden off himself and the players. 'Skorji, listen to me. Le-Tonnelier's idea is the way to go. You just have to be brave!' Back when Le-Tonnelier had made his suggestion at the first training session after Skorji's "get your shit together" meeting with the FA's finance chief, the manager had reacted positively at first, and started making calls. Then he went away and thought about it, and came up with the objections that led to all of this wasted effort on dumb ideas to bring in money. 'I'm still not comfortable with it. We're talking about exposing my philosophy here Rhea, to everyone. I know that of course it is the work of pure genius, but the world just isn't ready for it. What if I start something dangerous? What if all the other teams read what I say, and become invincible?' Rhea took a deep intake of breath and sat Skorji down. 'Skorji, I'm going to say this because I love you. Alright. Are you ready?'
''I'm ready.'
'Good. PULL YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR FUCKING ARSE AND WRITE THE FUCKING BLOG.'
'...yes miss.'

World Cup 85

GOALS GALORE
New Lusitania 8-3 Necosia
@ Estádio Ilha Verde, S.Miguel (Att: 27 975)

A draw in TJUN-ia had been exciting but it had also come at the expense of a couple of points, meaning the Selecção Now travelled at home, albeit with quite a bit of travel as they moved to the Azores for a one-off game. It was another match for António Lopes in goal, as Vinagrete returned to left-back. The match was soon under way and under way quickly it was as very early on the first goal appeared as Jota managed to get one of his good headers after Paciência passed it to the side giving it some air. 1-0. On twenty minutes, yet another goal as Fernando got one of his good goals following a good pass from Cancela who had to run-up almost to the mid-way line. By this time the Necosians retaliated and actually pulled one back with a nice low shot to make it 2-1, but the following 3-1 goal seemed to have demoralised them for the rest of the half as Gama put it in from a cross by Fernando with a nice through-ball.
The final goal of the half was the 4-1 where from a corner by Azinheira, the ball flew up in the air into Veiga who controlled it well to put it in. The crowds cheered as the teams left as an island and an insular region came for a unique opportunity to see the Selecção and they had gotten quite the showcase from them. Back in the second half, the home crowd were completely stunned when a Selecção still getting into focus suffered their second goal of the match as Necosia celebrated in their small corner of the stadium. The Selecção would continue their goal scoring fashion however as Jota looked for his second in what was being his best cycle so far. A quick jolt meant he could catch the ball sent in by Horta and slotted it in calmly. It was now 5-1. By sixty minutes yet another goal came through as Jota completed his hat-trick where he'd pick up that match ball to take home as Gama supplied him the cross and the Porto striker supported the volley in. The seventh goal would not come long after with the other striker, Paciência getting another piece of the action receiving a classy pass with the hell by the team captain to put it in the top left corner. New Lusitania would put just one more goal in, on eighty-two minutes of play. Substitute Fransisco Trincã managed to get his first appearance for the team and also get his first goal while he was at it. The Bracarense striker would head it in following a corner situation taken by Horta where his team-mate had passed the ball to Veiga who only managed the post which on the rebound landed on the new prospect to make his first goal. Normally play would've ended at ninety domestically but in the internationals added time was still on and Necosia managed a third goal, now only for consolation but what seemed like a small victory in itself considering the great shot it was and from the distance it was taken, stealing New Lusitania's outright victory record. It was all anticlimactic though when a few moments later it would be the home side celebrating with the fans as man-of-the-match Daniel Jota collected a match ball which also participated in the celebrations. FULL TIME: 8-3

Around The Grounds
New Lusitania's good victory had managed to keep some teams at bay and better the goal differential if anything, remaining fifth even if results went their Selecção's way as the pack was tightened following Sajnur's draw with the EOT (1-1) and Audioslavia's half-shock defeat away at Jeckland (1-0) which meant Astograth climbed up to second on goal difference following a draw with Villablanca away (0-0). As Porticalia rested, Natanians & Nosts equalled their tally with a 1-0 victory with Muradil, but nothing could stop leaders Turori who had a good win themselves with a 1-5 away win at TJUN-ia making it ten victories in ten matches. When the internationals return, New Lusitania visit Turori in their biggest match yet. There aren't many expectations of victory as the Eels are yet to be stopped but "hope and playing to the best of our abilities" is the programme according to Victor Santa Cruz. With the final match of round one being Runners-Up Astograth in Sevilha, expectations aren't the best even if points in these matches are extremely pivotal if anyone wants to get to the World Cup. Sajnur's bye on the final matchday of the first round proves an opportunity in a tricky situation.

Opinion: Despite slump, competitive Nephara defeat a marker of growth

by Frank Cora, Senior Football Writer

Delaclava just lost by three goals, and I am more optimistic about this team than ever.

Huh?, you might be thinking.

Yes, despite what the scoreline might say, a 4-1 loss to the fourth-ranked team in the world in Nephara - led by a goal and two assists from Monako Saroszi - may well be, in many respects, the finest performance from the Phoenixes this season.

Let's contextualise this. I had previously written a column after the Phoenixes had come off an encouraging 3-3 draw in Jeruselem, only to lose an uninspired contest 1-0 at home against Acronius. I then criticised the Delaclav's squad tendency to come off an apparent upward turn in form with an embarrassing performance and setback, as well as the inability of the Phoenixes to successfully impose their offense style.

(I'm also told there's been some personal drama on the team - which we may or may not find out about in the season premiere of the smash hit The Wet Prince of Cleopatrana.)

In the two games following that "rant" of sorts, the Phoenixes would draw their next two games. In their visit to Simpralia, they'd go into a greatly oversized venue - a 122,000-seat Glory Park that was maybe a tenth full - and take an early lead on Kelly Joseph's first international goal. But ultimately, as the game drew to a close, they erred in trying to play like a defensive team. They played to draw the last fifteen minutes and lost that period instead, giving up a stoppage-time goal for the 1-1 outcome.

Coming back and hosting Welzat at University Field in Velodri - a homecoming of sorts for the Verceolan veterans on the team - Delaclava fell behind 3-1 but showed muster in scoring two late goals and earning another point. It was at times a lukewarm effort, but the Phoenixes were fortunate not to come away empty-handed.

So there seemed to be very little promise when the Phoenixes walked into The Gauntlet in Treason, Nephara, set to take on a world-class team. If you dropped in a bar or cafe anywhere in Delaclava this week, they were not talking about the match like any other match. Fans weren't hoping their team could earn a victory. They were hoping they could simply hang on.

Instead, the Delaclav squad put on a showing that made their entire country take notice.

It's true, the Phoenixes were looking at the second quarter of their qualifying schedule as a way to earn some points after fighting through a hard first phase of the schedule. And instead, they sit on a winless streak of five games - albeit with three draws, one against Jeruselem. But on paper, the match against Nephara ought to have been a bloodbath - but while the Nepharan team threw everything they had at the Delaclav squad, they slung it right back.

First of all, this Phoenixes squad had never truly given a satisfactory response to mid-game adversity. When they held a 4-1 lead over Sarzonia and saw it slip away, they had no fight back. When they went down to Acronius early, they never mobilised to equal the score. Now, they've had plenty of games - against Welzat, Jeruselem, or South Charlia - where they've managed to scrape out a win or draw that was theirs for the taking anyway. But the Phoenixes have never really shown 90 minutes of fight with all the odds against them. Could Delaclava continue to battle and compete even when all realistic chances of victory had vanished.

Facing off against Nephara, they finally answered yes for the first time.

When Saroszi drew first blood only three minutes into the game, that could have very well set the tone for the entire game. But the Phoenixes went into hyper-attack anyway - generating the majority of scoring chances and keeping the Nepharan defense so preoccupied with stopping the siege that they barely had an opportunity to extend their lead, and despite a crossbar clanger from Ilyana Brosch, 1-0 the score remained.

When the Cormorants scored two goals in the first fifteen minutes of the second half, taking a commanding 3-0 lead, many teams would have allowed them to run away with the game. In fact, some iterations of the Delaclav team would have done the same.

Instead, the Phoenixes adjusted. Manager Tim Landers only made one substitution - and it was an offensive switch, Ryan Walters for Dathan Ingram - so all the fixes the Phoenixes needed to make were done by the personnel already out on the field. They faced a tough situation and problem solved their way into a competitive half hour of football. The fearsome Nepharan defense had allowed just five goals in its first nine qualifying matches. But the Phoenixes kept crashing into the brick wall, chipping away at it, until Declan Mullins won a battle for the loose ball in the left corner and struck a hard pass for Lukas Meyer to tap in for goal No. 6.

There was no motivation or purpose to score that goal, except for pride and an insistence to go down swinging. The Nepharan squad and the Delaclav fans alike demanded a rise to the occasion, and Delaclava delivered.

Is it still meaningless in terms of the final score - which became 4-1 - or the table - still three points for Nephara, zero for Delaclava? Sure. But the Phoenixes are ranked as low as can be - that is, not ranked at all - and are still figuring their way through all the more experienced squads in the world. Until this squad has played enough games and developed a high-quality program that is capable of competing with the best, any success Delaclava finds is going to have to be on toughness, and it took a truly high-level opponent to bring it out of them.

Toughness and grit alone will not propel Delaclava even to the middle, let alone the top of the game. Which is why it was so encouraging to see so many individuals who rose to the occasion:

Donato Girardi may have had the inside track on understanding Nepharan football, given he plays for the Chenoworth Harriers and had already matched up against many of the same players, but he did the most with that knowledge. After all, Pavel Cicak plays in the same league - with the Brookford Otters - and has had practice in stopping the same forwards and midfielders from scoring, yet that appeared to be of no help on the day. But Girardi was calm and collected, a force in the midfield, the nexus of the first-half Delaclav attack. He's not the captain anymore - after wearing the band on a semi-regular basis through AOCAF and the Wonder Cup - but he was the leader today. The rest of the squad was in a stressful situation, and they settled down because Girardi led them through it with poise.

Rhydian Campbell and Dathan Ingram were also active in the first half, and while their efforts were naught, the teenager Campbell and the 20-year-old Ingram did not back down from the challenge set in front of them. If they continue to follow the same development curves, they'll be causing the same problems for opposing defenses for years to come - and at some point, those teams might not be able to stop them.

3-0 down may not seem like a high-pressure situation, but it was for Ryan Walters - he was the only Delaclav substitution, and he was sent in to make a goal happen. And while he wasn't involved in the lone Delaclav tally, he generated the first threatening second-half chance with a shot off the crossbar, and he was a fresh look for the Nepharan defense that they struggled to handle. When you're sent into the game with one job to do and you can make that happen, that's how you contribute to your team, especially when you're 38 years old and are probably looking at your last and best chance to make a difference.

Declan Mullins' inclusion was always a question mark - from the practice squad to the full-time squad to the starting lineup. A lot of it centered on his age of 36 years. And even in this match, he unfortunately had a handful of "senior moments" where he wasn't quite deft enough to capitalise on all the chances in front of him. But when his team put a goal past this formidable defense, it was because he saw the opportunity and wanted it more than Rovena Stride did, and the score came quickly from there. He doesn't have the athleticism of Dashaun Howard, but that is a sacrifice Landers might have to make. Mullins was helping the squad generate chances all the game, is unselfish enough to know when to distribute the ball away, and the young guns around him look more comfortable in creating consistent pressure. Mullins might not have a lot of magic left, but Landers ought to get all his money's worth out of his preeminent veteran.

Finally, Lukas Meyer was more than the goalscorer when he knocked in the pass from Mullins; he was the symbol for an upstart squad showing that they could at least give a top-tier team something to think about after the final whistle blew. Remarkably, it was also Meyer's 11th goal in 10 games, picking back up where he left off after a two-game dry spell. Every team has different opposition and different tactics, but any player who's averaging more than a goal per game in World Cup qualifying demands attention. On a domestic level, he is currently enjoying a stint with Savojars Vinge Virkaja in Savojarna, but he could soon be entertaining offers from many other suitors. But for the Phoenixes, he is their star. It took him until late to really figure into the offense, but the reason the rest of the offensive players garnered so many opportunities was because the defense was worried about what Meyer was going to do. He wasn't frequently the focal point of the offense, but he was often the focal point of the opposing defense. Morever, he figured out how to overcome that and put one in for his team. There's a lot more that goes into a football team than the man who scores the goals, but Meyer is doing it with such regularity that he is quite evidently the face of the squad.

Sure, I may have romanticised in the past few paragraphs, but all of it is an accurate representation of what I and fans around the country saw. You can't observe all of this and tell me the Phoenixes don't have a lot to build on.

The Phoenixes might just lose again tomorrow, or lose a few matches, but I sincerely believed they are not destined to stay at the bottom for very long.

And when the Cormorants come to Valhalla for the return leg, our fans might not be talking anymore about how to survive.

They'll be talking about how the Phoenixes are going to defeat one of the best teams in the world.

Victory Again, Finally
By Daniel de Bourgogne

It only took eleven games, but the Oberour Ar Moro national team got their second win of World Cup qualifying. But what a win! The Dragoons won 5-1 on the road in Lake Esper. This makes 5 points in three matches and lifted the team out of the basement of their group to at least lying flat on the ground floor.

The Legalese-Saintland-Lake Esper-North New South Wales-Southern Esportivan Union sequence was considered critical for the national team. It was a strong opportunity, possibly the strongest, for them to score points and get back to some level of middling performance. Manager Gilduin Roux was in dire need of some success, this should turn the heat down on his seat at least for a little while.

Only three points currently separate eleventh-pace Oberour Ar Moro (and twelfth-place Legalese) from sixth-place Omerica and seventh-place North New South Wales. A positive run of games could move Oberour Ar Moro to middle of the group, which is where Oberour Ar Moro was ranked going into qualifying.

Normally we wouldn't be celebrating barely-average results, but after the misery of games 5 to 10, any positive results are eagerly appreciated. And how can you complain about a 5-1 victory on the road?

Though maybe a win was just a matter of time. Dr. Grantham le Pledeeur, a professor of economics at Porphyrogene University, said this might be an example of "regression toward the mean". As Dr. le Pledeeur noted "All actions and performance vary around some average true performance. Circumstances might conspire to generate poorer than average performance or better than average performance, but eventually, it will shift, regress, to a standard level."

Maybe a win against Lake Esper is just the result of a team that's been ready to burst out. But you can't ignore the fact that a team in a deep dive pulled themselves out of it. Maybe this is the start of a long series of successes. Perhaps the mean for the Dragoons is even better than we know. Only time will tell.

Part 4.

Ñucanchi Ñan - Part 5.

Plaza de Armas, Tulcán - Carchí Department - 23/03/1980 - 12:15 P.M.

Despite of the fact that it was noon, Tulcán is always known for being one of the coldest places all across Huayramarca, it was shy over 2,900 meters above the sea level, low compared to other places across the nation but the fact of being built in a valley completely enclosed into an Andean gap made the winds get into Tulcán and form like a natural fridge or some sort of meteorological effect that enclosed the windchill in it. The city was the new beginning into Marta’s revolutionary path, an idea born after watching how her son was shot on sight while somebody was rescuing him from a brutal police attack, hopes were somewhat high for her, Kevin and Walter, who were the main responsibles of Ñucanchi Ñan, along with the people who travelled from Sopocachi. Tulcán itself has some decent history as being a revolutionary hotspot, the influence from more liberalistic and socially focused Royal Kingdom of Québec, which borders Tulcán, the comparisons were always present and the people from Tulcán always considered on trying to adapt some of those democratic ideas into their city at least.

For Hugo Mina, Tulcán, Sopocachi and El Alto are his main threats, specially Tulcán since they have a notable intellectual group among the Serranos, a group that was now aiming to join into the ranks of Ñucanchi Ñan. The situation was normal at the city, Marta didn’t know that facts of the city until reading a tourist guide made by MuniTulcán, the social entity in charge of the municipality of said city. While eating at a café located at the main plaza, Kevin spotted a lot of people walking through the plaza and entering to the Theatre, the spot where Ñucanchi Ñan would gather and constitute their presence in the city, Kevin was nervous “There’s a lot of people walking to the Theatre, What are we going to do with that amount of people?” Marta was doubting about Kevin’s ability to handle masses, granted, Kevin is only 18 years old and was a football academy dropout trying to get into University Selective Exam, the test that’s needed to do in order to get into a Huayramarcan university. Marta analyzed a bit, then she said “Well, as normal, Kevin. Do figure out that you’re talking with friends, act normal, they all are at our side, feel comfortable!” While Walter said “You could try to do some slides in FilminaPoint for the presentation, that would help.”

Kevin decided to eat fast and then visiting a cyber coffee to do the slides, he was warned by Walter, who had a computer and offered it to Kevin, so he can do the slides anonymously and without leaving traces of his actions. He took it and went to a solitary space at the restaurant, at the smokers’ zone in order to do the slides, he was alone there and decided to smoke a cigar to justify his presence at the zone. He tried to download information about the ideals, then, adapted it to the few talks they had about how they would constitute Ñucanchi Ñan properly. Kevin went out the zone, smelling badly and showed the slides to his friends, Marta was somewhat shocked at Kevin and said “Dude, you smell horribly.” Kevin just shrugged and said “Are you actually going to read the slides?” Marta took the laptop and observed with carefulness and detail, so she would ensure that the people would get the right angle of what is Ñucanchi Ñan. By previous experiences of Marta being involved at debate, specifically at Québécois Parliamentary debate, she was obsessed on how the information would be presented, in order to capture people into it, argue, reason and properly evidence all points to convince them. She sighed, and said “Keeeeeeeevin….” “How could you write that in this way?” While observing to a sentence badly written in Spanish “Bamos a vorrar ala oligarquia cozteña.” (Instead of “Vamos a borrar a la oligarquía costeña”)1 Then Walter smiled and pressed F5 at the computer, the grammar correction was done automatically and then pat Kevin at his shoulder.

Remember to buy you an “amansaburros” in reference to a dictionary approved by the Huayramarcan Language Academy, a branch of the Royal Academy of the Language, a Québécois based institution founded by Guayabalense expats that tried to restitute the norms of properly written Spanish. After the fast fixing of the horrendous chain of mistakes that Kevin did, the trio, with some other Sopocachi residents moved to the Theatre of Tulcán, where the meeting was set to be held at 2:00 P.M. Serranos are somewhat known for being punctual, specially at this zone, where Québécois sometimes flock in-masse to buy coca leaf or cheap products that might be sold way costlier than in Huayramarcan, the commercial exchange forced them to adapt to foreign standards in order to avoid disappointing potential clients, the Theatre was full 20 minutes before the time set for the beginning, so Walter and Julián, a resident of Tulcán who offered to set the equipment for the presentation, started to work into setting the instruments on for the speech, Marta was relaxing, reading the “Communist Manifesto” of Max Barry, a well-known writer in the multiverse that reflects his ideology heavily in his books, meanwhile even more people was crowding the Theatre, to the point of having standees in it, she smiled when watching those scenes, she was sincerely surprised.

Kevin turned on the projector, the screen was showing the slides he made for the presentation, Marta took the microphone and tapped on it, then “One, two, three… We are in a test, comrades.” The people shut their voices down, they were somewhat eager to known what Ñucanchi Ñan would offer them. Several other movements across the Sierra had come to Tulcán in order to gather support from the intellectual elite from the city, known for being quite influential in other zones of the nation, even at the coast, well-respected economists and politicians in the past were born and educated at Tulcán, people of the like of Juan Garrido, first Huayramarcan president, Daniela Congo, the first female graduate of the Huayramarcan National University in economics and more other people known for their contributions to the nation were born there, those groups left the city disappointed or booed for not being a real alternative according to the locals. Marta, of course, wasn’t aware of that and gladly for her, being aware of that fact would have put her into a state of nerves, even her debating experience wouldn’t have helped to solve that fact.

Marta spoke and said “Ñucanchi Ñan is an organization that wants to defend Serrano values, tradition and heritage in order to make Huayramarca into a nation known for respecting its people, for having different ethnicities coexisting in peace and not abusing one to the other.” “The Costeño elite has harmed us a lot in these past years, they threw away a legitimate government as the one we elected by the mere fact of being Serranos, which it was something arbitrary and unjustifiable by the means on how that happened.” The people were nodding, they were agreeing until now, then, Marta showed off that Trome news where the Illimani mining project was made public, accompanied with some research made by community media or other groups with social initiatives such as “Mi Pachamama”2 (My Mother Earth). The people there was now surprised, since they, as Quechuas, consider the Illimani as a shrine for them, they started applauding when Martha said “We have come here in order to build a solid structure to defend our rights, not only for Serranos, but for everybody who’s being humiliated by this tyranny governed by corrupt Hugo Mina.” Police was there, recording what Marta was saying, but there were risks since there were Québécois people there in order to get informed about what was happening in there, they would like to support the cause financially. Police was hand-tied since activating a violent procedure was risky for them, since foreign nationals were likely to get involved at some sort.

Marta persuaded people to join Ñucanchi Ñan, for that, she decided to build a board of members at Tulcán, the people was trying to select one to be the president, the choice seemed to be unanimous, since everybody was pointing at an old man sitting at the third row of the Theatre, his name is Augusto Buendía, a 66 years old person who happens to be the mayor of the city, he accepted the role from the people and was elected as the main authority of Ñucanchi Ñan on there, Walter and some other Sopocachi people were quite surprised on how a mayor turned out to be elected for their cause so soon, a supporter such as this one would help to build some decent reputation.

Buendía took the microphone and thanked the people for his support, turns out that he’s well respected by his duties as mayor of the city, getting re-elected for 9 times in a row, promoting an agenda based on ethnic equality in opportunities, turning Tulcán from being a simple mountain side village into a hub for commerce for Québécois people desiring to buy cheap products, earning decent amount of taxes that helped to revamp the village and the life conditions of poorer families. Buendía said “The government headed by Mina is the worst threat that the Huayramarcan fragile democracy has ever faced, we need to protect it in order to improve our life conditions, hence why I join Ñucanchi Ñan, they need strong support to achieve their platform, Marta looks as a solid person for me, capable and well prepared to help in our decades long struggle to turn Huayramarca into a nice place to live, a place where rights of each human being can be guaranteed.”

Marta proceeded to talk with the people at the end of the conference, but she and all her friends were happy, they were aware that they earned a big victory on their first tour to Tulcán, a place known for being decisive when we talk to social transformations to Huayramarca.

Revolution, Part 2
As the CIU soldiers tried to find an area to regroup, the Kalactanian army was hunting them. The army was able to attack the largest remaining CIU group on their left flank, the attack caused fatalities to about a quarter of the CIU soldiers and made some of the soldiers quit into the rural countryside of the inland. Despite creating havoc within the base of the CIU soldiers in Northwest Kalactin, the rebels still had many supply shortages as they didn’t have many factories to get the weapons from. They looked for help, and they found some from the industrial power Pripet Socialist Republic. The PSR provided them with ammunition for the muskets of the soldiers however, to many people wanted to join the rebels, they didn’t have enough weapons for all the soldiers. The war was on hold for a bit as the reamaning CIU soldiers where deadlock with rebels on the shores of Coffs. The entire city was devastated by the war however, there was about to be a new place where battle would commence. Enter the shores of the biggest city in Northwest Kalactin, Gold Coast. A naval fort was there and much of the PSR supplies arrived there, which made it a prime target for the CIU navy to capture. Under the cover of darkness 2 nights before the main attack, the CIU spy group planted explosives in some main points of the city. One night before the attack, the ships of the CIU bombarded the shores of Gold Coast, many buildings where set alight by the hot flares of the navy of the CIU. 10,000 CIU soldiers marched onto the southern beaches of the town, and they where there to cause mass destruction. As they marched through the city they overpowered a Kalactanian force that was not very skilled. They surrounded the main force and caused many of the Kalactanian men to surrender their weapons to the CIU soldiers. The CIU general started the march down south that set much farmland alight, the entire city of Murwelldobah was burnt down by the force and in Kalactin people where mad. Mass Riots started to take place against in the CIU controlled area and 16 soldiers where killed. But the next year would turn the tides of the war. The Original Nova Corps of Kalactin had organized their first force to break the deadlock of the war at North Coffs. They would do this by punching holes through the CIU trench and flooding soldiers through the holes and surrounding the CIU soldiers on both sides. Overnight on May 11th the attack happened, 4,000 highly trained men overwhelmed a sleeping CIU force that night and the attack followed the next morning. The attack was so swift that one division caught the CIU men still having breakfast. Within a week the battle of North Coffs was over and the Kalactanians took the win in the most decisive battle of the war. All that was left for them to do was to stop the CIU force marching down south which would not prove to be an easy task for the rebels to accomplish. Many of the CIU soldiers on the campaign got tired of the war and they staged a mutiny against their general. 1,000 soldiers left the army and the CIU was now outnumbered in men and resources. As the final battles of the war took place the negotiations started between the new government and the CIU. The final battle took place at St. Caen in the mountains, the rebels now outnumbered the CIU 3-1 and CIU soldiers where leaving. The guns stopped on September 19th as the CIU pulled out of Northwest Kalactin.
The final terms of the war where the following:
•Northwest Kalactin will be recognized as an independent republic
•The CIU must pay 3 million to the PSR
•The CIU may not go to war for 15 years.

Daisy Cutter (aka Daisy Dallas) at Dazza Dallas Stadium with the Jeruselem coach Boris

Daisy:
Hello! This is Daisy Cutter for Naked News Jeruselem. We're once again back home at Dazza Dallas Stadium for another World Cup 85 qualification game. I'm with the Jeruselem team manager Boris Lancaster, I mean it's hard to miss him. We're getting to the last days of the 1st half of qualifying and it's a hard slog with so many teams still in contention. So Boris, another day in the job.

Boris: Yes yes, another day on the job. I'm doing a good job too.
Daisy: I'm being allowed to do these because I guess I'm taking over Kate's football gigs
Boris: Well, I think you're doing a fantastic job too.
Daisy: Now, Group 7 is far from settled with contenders everywhere while pretenders fall away. Good news is we are in fight still.
Boris: Yeah, it's all due my fantastic management so far.

Daisy:
This guy is so humble, nevermind.
Time to look at the other games first.
Darmen stopped Competitive Solitaire's winning run of 1, winning 3-0 at home. Which is not probably what we wanted to as a result but they are a good team.
Aimena hosted Sarzonia and lost further ground losing 2-0 to the visitors. Sarzonia are just winning and that's a worry for us and other teams as well.
Delaclava finally broke a losing streak winning 4-3 against Great Lausitz at home. I'd say sausage for once.
Acronius got smacked around and lost to visitors Nephara who won 6-2. Kinda expected that from Nephara, makes 3-1 look like good result.
Simpralia frustrated Welzat by holding them to 0-0 draw. Welzat need to win, they didn't.

Boris: All the good teams won, which I guess puts pressure on us to hold our ground.
Daisy: With the top 4 winning, but Welzat not winning - we had to perform today as well.
Boris: Yes we're expected to be one of contenders and we have to work for this.
Daisy: Welzat's draw compounded the issue of them having the bye last, so they will lose ground tomorrow.
Boris: Bad thing having bye last game.

Daisy: Well, no worries we won 4-0 and once again conceded no goals!
Boris: I'm the best
Daisy: Well, you have turned around a bad situation from match day 6 where we had two wins, two losses and one draw with a bye in the middle.
Boris: Yes, it's all good now.

Daisy:
The table - not much change for the top teams.
Nephara's near perfect 31 points leads the way.
Jeruselem and Sarzonia on 22 but Jeruselem's goal difference puts us 2nd.
Darmen lurk in 4th on 21 points.
Welzat are still 5th on 19 points.
We got a cluster of teams next, Simpralia on 14, Acronius and Aimena on 13, Delaclava moved up with 12, Huayramarca on 12 as well. Competitive Solitaire 10, Great ... Lausitz 10 and ... that team last.

Boris: We're going great
Daisy: Moving forward, this is a good platform for moving into the next half of qualification.
Boris: Well well, we can say we're not out of the battle we can qualify if we keep up the good work.
Daisy: Are you planning to be around for the next cup?
Boris: Well I guess it all comes down to how we do in this one. But yes.
Daisy: Just one thing, why does your hair look like you've walked into wind tunnel?

Boris: Well yes, that's way it is.
Daisy: So it's always very prone to get blown into shape like a mop by the wind
Boris: I have very thin hair stands so it does end up like a mop
Daisy: I guess you're hard to miss in a crowd
Boris: Well, that's all from me and Boris.
Daisy: One more game to play until the 1st half is over, we can't wait for that. See you all later, well not me - that will Kate not me.

OOC
Group 7
Darmen 3–0 Competitive Solitaire
Aimena 0–2 Sarzonia
Jeruselem 4–0 Huayramarca
Delaclava 4–3 Great Lausitz
Acronius 2–6 Nephara
Simpralia 0–0 Welzat

Pulled from the Avatarian Sports Blog KickMeWhenImDown.blogstain.gki

The hardest part of depression is knowing when it will strike…

If you had asked me twelve days ago what I would be doing, my response would have been watching both the Bisons and the Flying Bisons in their respective World Cups; as a member of the Jinjian House back at my alma mater Mofahuojian, I am one of the privileged Avatarians who not only have access to the elemental magic, but also that of the wand. As such, I should be turning in, watching as our boys take down every team that stands in their way…

Instead, both teams are not looking great, with the Flying Bisons already on their way home for Taeshan, and the Bisons going into the bye in a tie for third-from last. Frankly, there is no way they’ll be able to pull off enough wins to advance…

Why does that matter?

I have no control over any of their performances. It is all in Margaret’s hands… Granted I could make an offering, appease Her with words and attempts at gazing into the minds of non-existant players in worlds that are little more than text on a page…

Yet, with every defeat, I lose just that much more motivation, and the depression is like quicksand at times: The harder you fight to keep your head up, the harder it drags you down. I have made many offerings to Margaret, written nearly one-hundred thousands words in some vain attempt to please Her, and yet the Bisons, Ice Bisons, and now Flying Bisons have all put floundered their way onto the multi-verse stage. We went into the AOCAF, into the Cup of Harmony, into the AOCAF again, into the AOHC, and came out of all them eliminated. Now, in the World Cup, its looking like its much the same…

Maybe the boys just don’t have the drive… I know I don’t…

Every loss, every draw… just takes what little desire I have to enjoy the game and throws it to the curb. Even outside of this, my life has been more stressful lately; between the unpredictable hours, the unpredictable shifts, the unpredictable co-workers. Hell, that is probably the root cause of it all.

During the two months of seclusion, I had consistency. Every day I woke up, I had a schedule for myself, a routine that I could do that bettered my emotional and mental health; shower, breakfast, game, lunch, exercise, shower, run errands, cook dinner, game, sleep, wake up and repeat… for 60 days straight. Back to work at the beginning of May, and any sense of consistency went out the window. Today, you’re scheduled 0900-1400, but damn it, so-and-so is calling out for whatever bullshit reason and you get to stay until 2200. Oh, and we’ll be down a person because management won’t call anyone in to cover the shift. Oh, and we’ll reach capacity by 2000 and stay there, taking orders up until 2159, and then you’ll have to go out into the dining room and intimidate a couple drunks who think the pandemic is made-up, or is a plot to stop the re-election of the favorite god-king politician, and the hours on the door say you don’t close until 0030. You try to explain to them, but then get called a f**got, a pric, and how you hate ‘them dirty n***as’ because you are the only white person in the entire back of house and they’ve been watching you all night…

And it just gets better every day…

One day, we run out of product because everyone is enjoying the holiday weekend. The next, you open-close, but your co-workers hate you for having hours, so when you try and talk about the job, they roll their eyes at you and say things like, “Don’t complain, at least you’re working” or “Shit, you get paid, shut up.” Then, you get the unique joy of attempting to de-escalate a drunk who tries to fight your manager, threatening to throw them through the front door before the cops get there because she “looked at (him) funny”….

And now… everyone and their seven horses are up in arms over the latest in a long line of political movements, and even as the minority in the kitchen, you are the minority of opinion too; that people have the right to assemble, that violence is the language of the oppressed when they have been ignored, and that it is not a pro-this, anti-that issue, but merely a matter of not being a shitty human… Just because we say “Save The Rainforest” doesn’t mean we are saying “Burn down every other forest!”.

You come home, looking to relax, you drink a couple ciders and eat some fresh white rice and chicken that you cooked up, only to sit down and hear that work was just as shit for your partner as it was for you, and rather than bog them down with how rough your day was, you listen and attend to their wounds. You are their shield, you are their home, you must put the smiling face on and help them heal. They go to sleep around 0100 or so, and you try to summon what little energy remains to appease Margaret…

But there is nothing but fumes in the tank…

And of course, the next day, when you are on break at work, you check the scores… and see that Margaret has smote you once again, and the cycle repeats itself. Again and Again, through each of the twenty-five matchdays, until at the end of it all, you look at the results, only wondering if maybe you had made more offerings, the team would have done better.

It’s such a stupid thing to worry about, such a ridiculous thing to allow to effect your mental state…

But it does nonetheless…

Who knows, maybe after a good trip to Mofahuojian on Friday with the partner, it will be the recharge you need. Let you approach the next twelve matchdays with enough fervent energy that you can write those sacrificial stories every night after work and appease Margaret enough to push the Bisons into the next round.

Or at the very least… Help the Ice Bisons in their next endeavor….

Add another 1056 words to the offering table.

Turn Up the Radio

It was getting a bit late, though Jessica was enjoying herself even though her bad days of hers was lasting a bit more than she expected. Of course, World Cup fever is happening all over the nation. Watch parties are being set up. Pubs were crowded. Soldiers were mowing down anyone that was infected, though this is Main Nation Ministry, so it didn't surprise her. She was on the phone with Princess Keller Harrington, as the Leader was planning some more stuff with her.

"So you have another ball or whatever you got to go to?"
"My mother is still planning classes for the semester at the Mass Education Facility, since I do have that scholarship for martial arts. But the Leader is cramming stuff in that conflicts my time with Jason."
"Figured. Also, I heard that some people from South Covello badmouthed him on a podcast?"

"Don't worry. I made sure that Truman have him in check. Along with the fact that I can easily kick the Leader's ass if he tries to start another massacre. Some guy was already calling in fake bomb threats, pretending to be the Leader in South Covello. Leader was planning on having him executed, but I'm letting the authorities over there happen it."
"Good! Knowing how he's full of bloodlust, a detox can help him."
"By the way, you're doing ok? The quarantine is ending and I wanted to know if you're ok."
"Well... it's that phase of mine that I have as usual, I'm feeling the opposite of homesickness where I want to roll around in the middle of the woods, and I have some guy trapped in my fridge for some reason I don't know how."

"Uhh..." Harrington said uneasy on her side.
"I'm not sending a soldier over here, since they will demolish the whole place and ruin my freaking fridge!" Jessica explained to her, as she was talking about Roy. "I mean, he's fine. He has food in the back he can have."
"There's something surreal about this.."
"Don't get me started, Keller."

Meanwhile, Charlie was making sure that things would go a bit to plan. "Ok.. I got the ring. Just.. play it cool. Yes.. If only it was that simple." Charlie thought to herself, as she was checking up on Roy in the fridge. "Are you good in there?" Charlie asked him, as he didn't appear to be in any real danger. "It's not too bad. I hadn't felt like I need to use the restroom or anything. I been trying not to eat all of the new groceries. The back of the fridge isn't all expired food, right?" Roy said, as he kept his arms around him. "You're cold?"
"A little."
"It's going to be a while, before we can figure out a way to get you out. We don't want soldiers tearing up the kitchen to save you."
"I understood."

Charlie nodded, as she closed the fridge door. Jessica went downstairs, in a bit of a much better mood, as Charlie took a deep breath. "Something's up?"
"Uhhh...Trying to explain this." Charlie said, getting nervous.
"Well, go on."
"I was trying since stuff was going back to the usual routine, I was thinking that I do something special."
"What you planning?"
"It's..I know it's been a while, but I want to make it more memorable. I need to find the right time for it. And some more planning."
"I can help."

"No! It's a surprise! I know you're still not in a cheery mood, but I want to make sure it can make sure you're still happy." Charlie reassured Jessica, as she tried to hide her true emotions. "Alright. Normally, I'm used to surprises, but don't spoiler anything." Jessica said, as Charlie sighed a bit of relief, as some stress left her. However, deep down, she felt like a total moron. She wanted to propose, but she needed to make it special somehow.

But how? She thought, as she kept the ring hidden.

Double Header Part I

Baggieland 2 – 3 Bongo Johnson FT (0 – 2 HT)

Starting XI:
Image

Fred Buckingham decided to keep with his second XI for the game against Bongo Johnson, he reasoned that he would need a full squad to choose from for the double header, and that this team had got an emphatic win in the previous game. They gave another good account of themselves, but unfortunately came up just short in this game.

As the whistle blew there was an immediate scare for the Throstles; the Johnson striker tried an audacious shot right from the kick off on the half-way line, with a bit of wind assistance, the ball looked to be flying into the back of the Baggielandian net. Luckily, Foster scrambled back just in time and tipped the ball over for a corner. Indeed, Baggieland were on the back foot for most of the first half with Johnson dictating play. It came as not too much of a surprise to those watching when the visitors did score not once, but twice in the opening period. Baggieland did have their moments too, but the half definitely belonged to the away side. Ginger’s shot on the turn, which crashed onto the woodwork, was the closest they came to a scoring a goal.

They say it’s a game of two halves, and that sure was true for this game. Buckingham’s now famous half-time talk seemed to do the business again. With the assistance of the wind, Allen tried to copy Johnson’s kick-off attempt at goal, it was easily saved by their keeper, but the crowd appreciated the effort. Baggieland reduced the deficit on 57 minutes when Cantello dissected their midfield with a pinpoint pass that allowed Ginger a shot on goal. Their keeper seemed to have it covered, but to his embarrassment, he allowed it to slip under his body and into the net. Things got even better after that, Baggieland had been awarded a free-kick about 30 yards out. Allen floated it into the box where one of the Johnson defenders headed it back out. The ball landed at the feet of Cunningham who lashed it straight past everyone and levelled the scores at 2 – 2. The home crowd were calling out for a final push to continue our recent run of victories. Unfortunately, right at the death, while the Throstles were pushing for that third goal, it was Johnson who broke away and dealt a killer blow.

Double Header Part II

Talamia 1 – 2 Baggieland FT (1 – 0 HT)

Starting XI:
Image

Fred Buckingham returned to his first choice XI for the second part of the double header. After a first half scare, the Throstles bounced back to return to winning ways.

Talamia kicked off the game, but the crowd had to wait until the 20th minute for something to get excited about. Talamia produced an outstanding move of pure quality that had many of the Baggielandian players completely bamboozled, unfortunately their shooting prowess did not match their build-up play and the eventual shot was easily saved by Osborne. However, Talamia did get on the score sheet half way through the opening period when they got their just rewards after yet more excellent build-up play. After that, the half fizzled out and many in the stands could be seen going for their half-time greasy burgers before the half had ended.

Thankfully, the second half was more exciting, especially if you’re a Baggieland fan. Both sides seemed more determined to go for goal than they had in the first 45 minutes. Regis had a great chance to score, but he shot just wide of the post. Talamia had a decent shout for a penalty, but the ref wasn’t interested. Brunt curled a free-kick just over the bar. Baggieland left it late, but good things come to those who wait. In the 77th minute Livermore found Bassett on the right, he in turn lofted a cross into the danger area. Regis headed the ball down and into the path of Richardson, who made no mistake from about ten yards out. Things got even better for Baggieland just nine minutes later, this time Richardson turned provider as he set up Bomber nicely to poke the ball home after some initial good work by Livermore. The Throstles climb up the table continues.

TAPALUPÉ, Tequilo - We are half of the way through qualifying! By the dogs of El Patoto, where has the time gone? In this issue of GOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL-a!!!-Extra we round up the most interesting snippets of the nation’s attempt to not win the World Cup at the first time of asking. Plus we have more Rúi de Los Rovas, and what ever happened to Pablo Invocador, the most haunted player of all time?

But first - what happened to Los Pitxileros in World Cup qualifying? Let’s fire up the Copametro to find out…

BUSH DULY QUACKED, PER REQUEST, SIX TIMES OVER
TEQUILO 6-2 Quakmybush HT: 4-1

Location: Estadio Pablo Invocador, Santa Léa, Tapalupé Att: 53,007
SCORERS: Tlacolotl 9’ 15’ Quacker#3 (OG) 27’ Callañuapa 41’ Gorostola 65’ Huracan 79’ | Quacker#3 14’ Quacker#8 74’

Los Pitxileros finished the first half of qualifying in style with a thumping win over Graznómipubis1 confirm a top half place at the midway stage, and remain only three points off the magical second qualifying spot. Surely no-one is expecting a serious challenge for that but the nation can be encouraged by a fifth game without defeat and a remarkable turnaround from the lumbering, shambolic aspect they were cutting a few games back. This match was a throwback to Mauricio Nores’ BoF games in Delaclava last year - the marauding attacking play, high pressing, gung-ho approach; the odd lapse in defensive duties, and goals goals goals! Also, cards cards cards as the over-enthusiastic Pitxileros, like playground kids high on cocoa-bo, lunged in for every tackle, almost on a rota, with six players picking up yellows but on this occasion, no reds. Player of the match Tlacolotl was hyped from the first minute, scoring two in 15, and clearly gunning for Niño Punto’s 25-minute hatrick record, although he didn’t quite make it. Quak defender #3 joined in with the fun, scoring at both ends in the first half as the agave blues took a 4-1 lead into the break. The second half was no less manic, and fans who had not been able to see Tequilo in their debut tournament in Delaclava finally got a taste of that mad fortnight here tonight at El Volcán.

The UPT (that’s the Tequila FA to you and me) will now take the World Cup on tour with games around the country in the second half of qualifying, beginning with a score to settle of Petroslovania - the team are struggling now but gave the Pitxileros what for in their very game of the World Cup, winning 5-3. Back on home turf the Tequiloa will want to take all three points in revenge but will face having to field a much changed side with Haize Apeiztegui, Patrick Zambo and Tutayan all with one match suspensions for picking up three yellow cards in the last game before the clean slate applies - they will be replaced by Noxochinoch, Geraitz Minha and Masango Sukè respectively. In more bad news, captain Mateo Tafalla will miss another three games following his injury and will be replaced again by young Niño Pinto. With Haize suspended, coach Martí will give the captain’s armband to the experience Urlegi Gorostola, who continues to impress up front alongside Tlacolotl.

Starting Line-Up for TEQUILO vs. Petroslovania:
Teixidó | Minha, Noxochinoch, Huracán, Chicchan | Callañuapa | Vilca Hualla, Niño Pinto, Sukè | Tlacolotl & Gorostola (Capitan)

VENUE: Estadio Grajo Resplendiente, La Conon, Maranco
Capacity: 62,800

Home of Maranco’s top state championship side, Resplendiente, in the mountain city of La Conon, will host the first of the touring qualification series. Known at The Crow’s Nest (El Nido Cuervo) the large old stadium, recently refreshed and renovated, has seen plenty of interesting football down the years and has regularly played host to the State Representative Series, a sort of Home International season between all six states of Tequilo. This will be it’s first full international game.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
What ever happened to Pablo Invocador?

If anyone invokes the spirits of pitxi, the patron wights, more successfully than Pablo Invocador, then I am yet to hear of it. Perhaps one day this emerging Cult of Teoxi Cóndor will produce the footballer more successful than Râmón Tüjânger, more skilled than Lepe, and more uncanny than the cruyff-spirit Oooóooos - but until that day comes, Señor Invocador, pretty decent footballer in his day for mighty Fábrica Tapalupé, wins the prize of most haunted pitxilero. In a country where shambolic religious symbolism and ritual is bound up with everyday life, including football, such a character, un chamán, will rise to the top of everyone’s consciousness - but, when the referee blew time on his career, and he was no longer in the public eye, whatever became of the man who could magic a goal out of nothing, and put a defender on the floor with just a secret word muttered under his breath? With the most appearances (605) and the most goals (419) for Fábrica during a 20+ year career, Pablo Invocador was easily become eternal legend for The Spanners from the day he retired - and the club even named their old Santa Léa stadium after him. His name lives on, as does the memory of his jinxes on the pitch, and that one time especially goes down in folklore when he made Argón keeper Abel Blázquez perform a headstand when facing him for a penalty kick - and was sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct. But where is he now? Unsurprisingly, Pablo joined the House of Shambles - the administrative body that presides over belief and disbelief in the Shambolic Tradition - where he is nominally an administrative clerk for the atheist story-telling cult, but where, secretly, we all believe, he conjures spirits for amusement and good prospects.

QUARTER OF QUALIFIERS
World Cup Review 2/4

Half way through qualifying for the World Cup, and let’s take a look at what happened in the second series of games of our debut, matches seven to twelve - could we build on a strong start through difficult ties?

THE TRIAL

Isaac Martí went into the second quarter having survived the first with a reasonable set of results; but two really poor games and two defeats immediately left the poor guy ‘under pressure’ according to the media. Since then, every game seems to have become a key piece of evidence in the trial of Isaac Martí - but perhaps that is what coaching at this level is all about. In any case, he appears unflustered, helped immensely by picking up three wins in a row including the fantastic 4-3 home win over Mattijana, ensuring that Tequilo went undefeated against ‘the big three’ in the first half of qualifying - with that win in Ko-oren and a draw in The Dreamed Realm. How quickly perspectives change! Indeed, after a really disappointing start to the second quarter with that hapless defeat in Vlasistan, Martí has guided the team to five unbeaten games, ending with a huge 6-2 home win against Graznómipubis and a rollicking great party in Santa Léa, Tapalupé City afterwards; the first half of qualifying ends with something of a hangover, and a certain feeling of noisy optimism as Tequilo finish the half in good form and only three points off a qualifying spot. Trial? What trial?

LAST MAN STANDING

So it finally happened in game 7 of qualifying, as Mateo Tafalla picked up an injury and left Haize Apeiztegui as the only player left who has played every game for the national team since it’s formation for the Baptism of Fire. Vice captain through that competition, he was promoted to Captain for the three games Mateo missed, and as ever was a commanding presence as Los Pitxileros turned their form around following a string of poor results. Fortunately Mateo returned to a continuation of that form, as Los Pitxileros smashed Quakmybush, proving that he wasn’t the one responsible for the shocking home defeat to cheer leaders or the sorry away showing against the anonymous Vlasistanis in raincoats. Not that we ever doubted El Capitan; but it was his stand-in, the hard man from Unuiĝinta, who took the team by the collar and shook it up for such a great revival that leaves the average Tequiloan dreaming of a place in the World Cup. From that opening day triumph in the Baptism of Fire in Delaclava, a solid 2-0 win over present Class of ’72 darlings South Newlandia - going really well in qualifiers - to the big bang in El Volcán with that eight-goal steamroll last night, Haize hasn’t missed a start. That is 23 games, with three goals and one man of the match award. Tragically though, the run is over. A third yellow card in the last game means he will be suspended for game 24, and we’ll be poring over the stats to see who might be in contention for the record for most games in a row. If only he could’ve eased off a bit in that tackle - the yellow record gets wiped clean at the halfway stage, giving Haize grace for a few more matches. But as it is, he still holds the title of last man standing, and will do so, we expect, for some time to come.

THE YOUNG ONES

Needing to find solutions to a poor run of form, coach Martí has turned to the young ones and given the kids a chance to shine - which they mostly have. In this quarter of qualifying Masango Sukè, Xiloyotl, Tepa, and Xiuhcoatl all got their first call ups and impressed; Masango Sukè in for the reliable Tutayan even held down his place. The 17-year old winger from Argón Tacranza just missed out on a BoF call-up but he’s made the coach sit up and take notice from his placement in the ‘junior reserves’ - the coaches identified pool of potential youngsters. Masango hit a goal in the 3-0 win over Daskel in game 9, and then in the famous 4-3 victory over Mattijana, probably would’ve got the man of the match award on any other day, but for Niño Pinto. Niño now bags a fourth ‘youngest ever’ record, after earning youngest ever debutant, starter, and goalscorer in the Baptism of Fire, he now hits the youngest ever hattrick record as well. And why not add a few more records while we are at it for the boy? Fastest goal for his country (56 seconds), fastest brace (one minute thirty eight) and fastest hattrick (twenty five minutes) - he bagged them all in a stunning performance.

BREAKING:
NEW STADIUM PLANS ANNOUNCED

Following the continued grumbling around the country that home qualifying matches could have been shared around the states, the Tequiloan football authorities, the UPT, have acceded to demands and will plan for the next six home matches to be played in different states, ending with a final match - and who knows, perhaps it will be a qualification decider - back at the Estadio Pablo Invocador in Tapalupé. The following schedule has been announced for the back half of qualifying, with travel and stadium details for visiting fans and journalists to be posted in due course (dates given are in the standard Sixteen Bits Symmetrical Calendar (SB) used across the Costelloan Ideology):

RÚI de Los ROVAS
Rúi Raza & the family company are back!

Read on as Roni Raza, Rúi’s grandson, buys a new Ferrari and crashes it just outside the dealership, seriously injuring his passenger and good friend Michel Platini Junior. With both of them recovering in hospital, a dogged investigative reporter from the Bild tabloid has put two and two together and come up with four: are the Raza family in bed with ‘FIFA’ the famously bent ex-world governing body? Roque is on damage control, trying to dissociate the agency so they don’t get tarred with the same brush: no one will ever trust them again if they even whiff faintly of FIFA. Meanwhile Rúi takes a personal hand in transfer matters, working alongside great granddaughter Rita to help baby-faced Norwegian friend and colleague Ole Gunnar Soskjaer balance the books by selling some of his Manchester United surplus stock - Marcus Rojo, Chris Smalling and Alexis Sanchez. But it’s not a seller’s market for the troubled old club and Rita is thinking about suggesting a new technique untried by the Reza Agency - the digital auction rooms of ‘eBay’.

NEXT TIME
What’s Up In The Next Issue of GOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL-a!!!

Coming soon - the patron wights of pitxi - can they really help confuddle the opposition? Which mischievous spirit would you want on your team? And how exactly do you get one? Plus, more Rúi de Los Rovas, and where can you find Lepe nowadays - perhaps the best striker in Tequiloan pitxi history?

THE HERALD
HISTORY OF THE PREMIERSHIP PART 7: REVELATIONS
Leonora Fischer

The fallout of the bizarre 64 season was extensive. Emery Lineker's final match at Chatswood was a heroic 2-0 win over Brinemouth that lifted them from 22nd to 18th. She resigned in the aftermath. While she jumped, Erica Brewer was pushed, and Crisisbless' Cup-winning 8-0 win over Extreme Hills proved her last game, a model assistant for Reinhard Shale whose split not only proved she couldn't manage alone, but also lead to a downturn in Shale's fortunes. Starling were not alone in the ranks of ambitious smaller sides, though they would prove the only sides that could sustain it. Creed United had gone from 17th to 14th to 8th in their first three Premiership seasons, and boasted impressive young talent and an eye for picking the right kind of journeymen. They had, however, just lost mercurial winger Corvid Alemane to the Rage. World champion Theresa Riether had surprisingly taken over at Vermillion Rage a year earlier, citing the desire to be in a lower-pressure environment, and it's often forgotten that they were a game away from winning the league at her first tilt. Her first tilt at the Premiership at all. Before losing 5-1 to South Laithland. The 64 season was, Champions Cup victory aside, both insane and stupid, and in a fairly muted international window, nobody really has the energy to make an eyecatching signing.

Despite bullish preseason predictions, Brinemouth start the season poorly, culminating in a staggering 7-0 defeat at home to Coret Hawks. By a distance their worst ever defeat. Alyss Montague runs the game for the Hawks, and supposedly it is this performance which convinces the Dockers to buy Montague later on. Not long afterwards, a Vermillion side flying high at the top of the table get dismantled 6-0 by the Moths, as people realise that they have zero defensive depth should anything happen to Hye-Min Jeong. They cling on until halfway through the season, but a run of two points from seven games sees them relinquish the lead. The Dockers are angry. The Dockers go on a tear of winning four matches by an aggregate scoreline of 26-2, with young playmaker Konrad Gosforth beginning to seriously make a name for himself.

After Vermillion fall, Brookford take the lead, but they too fall away at the end. By the penultimate matchday, order seems to have been restored; Treason sit at the top, Brinemouth, somehow, a point behind after a 4-0 thrashing of floundering Crisisbless, and Athletic in third. The title fight is the only thing left to resolve in the league, and while Chatswood are unable to hold off Brinemouth, AFC Treason put Parrhesia away to reclaim the title. Others had risen and fallen above them, and Brinemouth had made a terrifying surge at the end, but it was Treason's simple consistency that got them across the line. Six titles now. One ahead of Brinemouth to continue a remarkable trend where Treason never quite stretch out in front but Brinemouth never quite overtake them.

Stahlburg City rest in 21st. Unthinkable, fifteen years ago. They have been terrible all season, though had they managed just a point more their final-day 3-1 win in Goodfeather would have had them overtake the Quakers to safety. This season is unique, however; it sees the first instance of the promotion/relegation playoff between the top two leagues, and the Smiths beat Leichhardt 2-0 to earn a reprieve. While this adds much-needed intrigue to the picture at the bottom of the table, the Smiths will prove an exception to the rule; the next seven 1Div teams will earn promotion through the playoff.

While Brookford and, improbably, Creed United have overtaken them, Vermillion Rage have fallen out of the UICA positions altogether. They still have the CEDC Final to contest, however, and that, inexplicably, winds up a 7-6 bloodbath against Alianza FC, the Rage narrowly on the right side of the scoreline. And even in eighth, their 80 points would have been enough to win the league last season. Starling, two points and two places above, have never quite been in the title challenge, but all eyes are on them regardless. Raynor City United loom in the Champions Cup Final, and Claudia Cautcher puts the Passerines ahead twelve minutes in. However, for once, fate does not smile upon them. Lithvathar equalises in the second half, the Passerines begin to tire and fade out in extra time as RCU win 3-1.

The Premiership had by this point risen once to the top of the world rankings, but thanks to Starling's success they were back to stay. Across the past eleven years, the Premiership has been ranked first in the world for nine of them. Admittedly, illustrating the tight margins at the top of UICA, the Premiership slipped back to producing just three CC entrants for one of the other two years. The next season ends with Treason defending their title powered by the newly-arrived centre-half Peter Svensson, one of the great defenders of world history. The Top Six come first through fifth, with Brinemouth lagging behind in eighth; the picture becomes familiar. Aaliyah Johnson gets her fourth Iron Boot and has a fifth to come, where no other player has ever won more than two. Gerhard Thunder takes over at the Moths, and without him, Brookford crash to 15th; Chatswood, Goodfeather FC and Stahlburg City, who had all enjoyed periods of genuine dominance, were all relegated, with Morningstar and Belgrave set to replace them and make their Premiership debuts. Top-quality players in Robert Griffin, Catherine Gryphon and Oscar Coltrane join the league, but they are now among a galaxy of stars. A Roque Acosta impact will never be felt again.

Thirty years ago, on an arid, windswept pitch, Catheline Locklear knocked a counterattacking pass through a sluggish, ill-disciplined high line and smashed the first modern Premiership goal past Lauren Brockhurst. Fans swayed from flimsy terraces, having paid for their tickets with loose change down the back of their sofas. The last goal of last season belonged to Xíxì Êns, the greatest player in the world knocking the last of a hat-trick past Sabrefell Moths, a derby day on the final match watched by millions across the globe. As soon as the season ended, foreigners flocked to buy slick, modern shirts with new, more elegant crests. Agents got on the phone to shop around seasoned veterans squeezed out of the six hundred places up for grabs in the Premiership but easily good enough to thrive elsewhere. Players leapt on planes to accept callups from all across the world, from small fish of great nations to undisputed stars of relative minnows, and of course the spine of the Cormorants themselves. It has not been an easy journey, and some might argue some soul has been lost along the way. But the path has been hard-fought and hard-earned, and enriched by so many stories. Gerhard Thunder, Erica Kenney, Josephus Flaccus, Kunibert Mathias, William Čalrek, Daniel Canady, Roque Acosta, Anders Engstroem, Espen Knutsen, Aziz Senturk, Yupanqui Sarracena, Adrian Middleton, Gabriella Antonio, Roddy Fraser, Solara Vol. We stand on the shoulders of giants, and we salute them.

Doubleheader Victories keep HUElavia in the Driver's Seat to Qualify!

Blouman Empire 1–2 HUElavia
(Cousins 83' | Duran 56', 90')

HUElavia 3–2 Fujai
(Leblanc 12', Almeida 57', Navarro 90+3' | Salberg 33', Kamie 75')

HUElavia came into Matchdays 12 and 13 looking to get back on the Win column, needing to put some distance from Xanneria and Kandorith before the Midpoint Break arrived. The two matchdays were a doubleheader, meaning the players would play within a short amount of time between the two matches, thus rotations were a guarantee. The first match was to be played at the Blouman Empire, while the second match would be played at home against Fujai at the Estadio Rias in Xinzo. For the match at Blouman Empire, HUElavia played with the B-Team with Vallares in goal and with the Away Alternative Uniform, while for the match at home against Fujai saw a mix of A-Team and B-Team players with Ricardo in goal and using the Home Uniform.

The first match at Blouman Empire saw both teams go at each other with caution, making passes and crosses with caution and precision, as they tried to open each other's defense and goalkeeping. Regardless, both Vallares and Polinoir made saves and catches as they prevented goals from being scored and the first half ended 0-0. The second half came and both teams began to go more on the attack, but with HUElavia staying a bit behind to build up play and counterattacks. The opening goal came in the 56th minute, when Duran had the ball and ran towards the box, doing a nutmeg to dispose of Potts and gave a shot that curved past Polinoir to go into the goal and to make it 0-1, with Duran celebrating with the team. Blouman Empire would go on the attack for several minutes, which would culminate on the equalizer in the 83rd minute, when a cross by Hunter met the head of Cousins, who headed it past Vallares and into the goal to make it 1-1. HUElavia would reply back with a late goal once more, as in the 90th minute, Duran had some open space to send a pass or cross, but decided to take a shot at goal, putting out a blast of a shot past Polinoir and into the goal to make it the definitive 1-2. Duran was mobbed in the celebrations and a few minutes later, the referee ended the match at 1-2, with HUElavia taking the first 3 points of the Doubleheader.

The Second match was at the Estadio Rias in Xinzo, with HUElavia visiting the stadium for the first time, in another National Team Baptism as they hosted Fujai. The match started with both teams going at it against each other in waves of attacks. The opening goal would come in the 12th minute, as a cross from Villca saw the ball go into the box as Leblanc would get the ball to her chest and blast it past Parekh to make it 1-0, with the crowd going crazy from the fantastic goal while Leblanc was mobbed by the team. Fujai would respond to this in the 33rd minute, when a cross by Michaud met the head of Salberg, who headed it past Ricardo and into the goal to make it 1-1. Nothing else would come from the first half as it would end at 1-1. The second half came and both teams picked up where they left off, as waves of attacks would be done. The second goal for HUElavia would come in the 57th minute, as a corner kick taken by Gallego met the head of Almeida who put it past Parekh into the goal to make it 2-1, with the crowd celebrating once more. Although, 18 minutes later, a pass from Slette would reach Kamie, who made a low shot to have it go past Ricardo and into the goal to tie it at 2-2. HUElavia would go on the attack for the remainder of the match, with the game-winning goal falling late in additional time, in the 90+3rd minute, as a corner kick taken by Gallego met the head of Smirnov, who headed it down for it to reach Navarro, who blasted it at point-blank range past Perekh to make it the definitive 3-2 with a minute left in the match. Navarro was mobbed by the team and bench while the crowd made the stadium rumble from their celebrations as the referee blew the match over, giving HUElavia another 3 points with the final score reading 3-2.

After the doubleheaders, Equestria still sits in 1st Place with 32 points (10-2-0), while HUElavia stays in 2nd Place with 27 Points (9-0-3). Xanneria originally had taken over 2nd Place on Goal Differential with a 1-4 win at Jamestownnnn, but a 4-4 draw at home against Ancherion made them go back to third with 25 points (7-4-1). Kandorith currently is in 4th place with 21 points (6-3-3), but is still in good contention to fight for 2nd Place. For the next two matches, HUElavia will play once again another Doubleheader for Matchdays 14 and 15, playing at home against Jamestownnnn at the Estadio Munincipal in Careital for Matchday 14, which will be a Baptism for the stadium, while visiting Acherion for Matchday 15. HUElavia will play with the B-Team against Jamestownnnn with Vallares in goal and with the Home Uniform, while the A-Team will play against Acherion, with Lobato in goal and with the Home Alternative Uniform. The fans feel confident that Los Amarillos can still keep a good run going and continue getting points while keeping Xanneria away from the position. Now, it's time to finish the 2nd Half of Qualifiers strong and go for our 2nd consecutive World Cup Appearance!

FORCA HUELAVIA! VAMOS HUELAVIA! GO HUELAVIA!

Thirteen matches into the World Cup 85 qualifying campaign gives the Sarzonian national football team a chance to take stock in their position in Group 7.

The Stars currently sit fourth in the table with 23 points. That's the bad news. The good news is that the Stars are level in points and won-drawn-loss record with third place Jeruselem and are only trailing second place Darmen by one point after Sarzonia and Jeruselem played to a 2-2 draw at Dave Wilson Stadium in Woodstock.

Sarzonia are four points clear of fifth place Welzat, who might be considered on the periphery of World Cup contention. However, Connelly quickly pointed out that Welzat defeated the Stars by two goals in Dave Wilson Stadium before Sarzonia got a smackdown from first place Nephara, who have a record of 11-1-0 and are 10 points clear of Darmen for the group lead. The only blemish on an otherwise perfect record for the Cormorants was a 2-2 draw against Huayramarca that took place immediately prior to Nephara's 4-1 victory over Sarzonia.

The Stars (7-2-3) continue to build momentum as they extended their unbeaten run to seven. They drew the two teams directly ahead of them in the world rankings, a fact that an optimist would point out was a harbinger that this Stars team were ready to shake off the stench of unexpected defeats at the hands of much lower-ranking sides. In addition, manager Kevin Connelly's decision to rest midfielder Brady Reynolds for Sarzonia's 2-0 away victory over Aimena showed the Stars have begun to develop bench strength.

A pessimistic approach would point out that the two draws both resulted from come-from-behind rallies with the Stars trailing 2-0. In addition, a pessimistic outlook would hinge on the fact that the Stars were facing a Delaclava side with a two-game winning streak of their own at The Pride in Manchester for a "home" match since Sarzonia's away fixture against the Phoenixes took place at Dave Wilson Stadium. Then, the Stars would face an Acronius side that ranked 75th in the world prior to qualifying and defeated the Stars 2-0.

"It's not sustainable," defender Russ Howard said of the forced comebacks. "Those are World Cup-calibre sides, but we need to play better for a full 90 minutes if we expect to be a serious contender."

In Sarzonia's 2-0 away victory to Aimena, the Stars got goals in the 11th and 48th minutes from Cayden Aguirre and Ernie Mabree, who was filling in for Reynolds as a playmaking midfielder. Goalkeeper Carlton Sandt was scarcely tested, making three saves, and all of them were routine.

Reece Banister drew first blood for the visiting Princesses just nine minutes into the contest after a nimble move that figuratively broke Howard's ankles. The shot stunned a sold out crowd at Dave Wilson Stadium into silence. Banister would extend the lead in the 23rd minute with a rising shot from outside the box that he would tell reporters later was an attempt to force Sandt off his line to set up the Princesses deep in the Sarzonian end.

Sarzonia would get on the scoresheet through
Jake Campos, who skied for a header of a Mabree cross in the 36th minute. Campos would turn distributor in the 58th minute as he found an onrushing Holly Cambrio for the equaliser that would allow Sarzonia to salvage a key point.

The fact that Sarzonia have earned four points from the past two matches with Reynolds on the sidelines was a cause for optimism, but Connelly said he would wait until the match in Manchester to return Reynolds to the starting 11.

"This is a long, arduous campaign," he said.

Good performances put The Jovannic back on front foot.

After the sloppy match against Warnarpu, Gothal Mathee sent the 1st team line up against Eura, and a tweaked defensive team against Northwest Kalactin. Both games were good, but each produced different results. The Jovannic got a fantastic victory against Eura with the score of 2-0, but we did not manage to beat a strong Northwest Kalactin 1-2. Let's have a review

The Jovannic 2-0 Eura: The Stocktain Lelop show

This match started off well for The Jovannic. Some good shots were made, with a shot by Rivilia rebounding off both posts before deflecting out. The first half ended with The Jovannic dominating both ends. The second half started with a start, as Mario's hopeful shot was tipped off the top corner with a spectacular save from the Euran Keeper. Stocktain Lelop dominated the midfield, twice coming close to finishing, before he finally did in fashion in the 67th minute. Just 3 minutes later, Stocktain Lelop had a spectacular solo run from the halfway line to the penalty box, where he chipped the ball into the net for 2-0. Stocktain Lelop and Sami Ning both hit the post, before the whistle blew. A dominant performance.

The Jovannic 1-2 Northwest Kalactin: Sooooo Unlucky....

The match started with a bang as Kalactin pushed through the bamboozled defense. Mavin did well to save the 1 on 1 that ensued. Both teams had their chances, but Kalactin got the first say, with a soaring shot curling just out of Mavin's reach. Kalactin got their second just before the first half with another breakthrough. This time Mavin was not so lucky. The Jovannic seemed unlucky, but got a glimmer of hope in the 57th minute as a wonderful pass by Ianu Fathe into the feet of Jovan led to a rocket shot that seemed the blast the net. This gave The Jovannic momentum and Sami, Raye and Jovan all hit the crossbar as The Jovannic were just out of time. Kalactin got another post shot when a well placed shot was tipped off by the strong hands of Mavin.

" We did well in both matches. We were unlucky in one. It happens sometimes. All I know is that we have got the form and we can push. We will push. our team has been doing better and better, and we will keep doing that."

Unbelievable, Jaff!
By Rami Niblick in Cayo Costa, SEU

NEVER, ever count out the Kryties. The early part of qualifying may have been a nightmare of epic proportions, but the switch to Fernando Vásquez García's famed "Fiesta Football" system has worked wonders. From bottom of the table after seven games, the Dragons have picked up thirteen points from their last fifteen and now sit fourth. Last night was the cherry on top of the cake, an utter dismantling of Southern Esportiva that harkened back to the glory days when Krytenia almost ruled the world.

The visitors wasted no time in putting their opponents to the sword, Rafa Mendonca latching onto Phil Eaton's through ball to open the scoring with less than thirty seconds on the clock. The shellshocked expression of SEU keeper Junior Wheeler would tell the story of the match almost as well as this article could.

Krytenia proceeded to set up a base camp in the Esportivan half, Stephen Mariner and Sam Johanssen pulling the strings like master puppeteers and forcing the home side's defence into a desperate rearguard effort. Even at this early stage, it was clear the men in orange were simply outmatched, and it would be only a matter of time before one became two. Neil Smith was the man to get it, using a one-two with Selly Kennedy to unlock the tangerine wall and slotting the ball past Wheeler.

At this point, it became clear the SEU team were in full damage limitation mode, with Davie Underwood seemingly the only player outside of their own third. It did the trick, as despite some teasing crosses from Eaton and Joshua Kalnic, and speculative efforts from the front three, they were unable to crack the back ten, and went into the break just two up.

The second half began with the Esportivans remembering you can't take any points at two down, and attempted to grab the game by the throat. This, it would turn out, was a mistake, as Mariner exploited the newfound space to tee up Smith for his second of the game. The Stanton man would complete his hat-trick a few minutes later, ghosting in at the near post to nod home Krytenia's fourth.

With the game almost certainly beyond reach, Jerome Jaffacake-Phillips rang the changes up front, Neil Smith coming off to a round of applause from the respectful home crowd, to be replaced by Curtis Collins. The Beckton striker almost scored with his first touch, snapping a volley that was well held by Wheeler, and injected some fresh legs into the team. James Pootsman would soon follow, on for Kelnic, and the pair combined for another headed goal to make it five-nil.

The SEU were not without chances; they were just very few and far between. Underwood did manage to get on the scoresheet, out-pacing James Aitken from a long ball to fire home, but it was barely a consolation even at that stage. Even worse, it seemed to just make Krytenia's attack mad. Kennedy was the next to add his name on the scoresheet, volleying home from fifteen yards for number six, then beating three defenders with a jinking run and slotting home to realy twist the knife. The final nail in the coffin would be provided by Theodoros Eleftheriou, nodding home at the far post from a Pootsman corner. Underwood knocked in a second consolation in the dying minutes, but by then the damage was well and truly done.

With half the qualifiers gone, Krytenia are eight points shy of Qasden in the second qualification spot. They'll be looking to cut that gap in two matches time - prior to that, though, there's the little matter of righting the Matchday One travesty against Omerica. Onward!
