America riots after Police kill unarmed Black Man

Postby Kowani » Tue May 26, 2020 9:00 pm

Source

Yesterday, 4 policemen killed George Floyd, who was suspected of forgery. mostly through the process of kneeling on his neck while he pleaded to being unable to breathe. The 4 officers have since been fired. Floyd was unarmed at the time, and died several minutes later at the hospital.

Now, protesters marching against police brutality have gotten into clashes, some violent with police officers.

NSG, is this the Emmet Till moment of the 21st century? Or will this fizzle out, like so many other protests around police brutality? Never mind that.

A video of the arrest can be found here.

At least one person is alleged to have been shot, though the identity of the shooter remains unclear, and another seems to have burned to death in a liquor store.

Outside of Minneapolis, there are also protests in St. Paul, Denver, Chicago, Columbus, and LA.

A related protest has broken out in Louisville, over the death of Breonna Taylor, with 7 shot.

Trump has Threatened to use the National Guard.

As of now, no charges will be leveled.

Derek Chauvin, the guy who actually had his knee on Floyd’s neck has been arrested and charged with murder.

Also, I’ve given up trying to keep editing in all the cities where protests have sprung up.

The charge for D. Chauvin has been upgraded to second degree murder., and the other 3 officers have been charged with aiding and abetting.

Minneapolis did the right thing by immediately firing the officers.

The riots are understandable, but the timing is fucking awful.

A friend of mine was at one of the protests. People have a right to angry. Enough of this. Police brutality needs to stop. There was zero justification for what happened

This should be a lesson to African-Americans. The fact there are so many bigoted European-Americans should teach you that you can not live with European-Americans and be safe. I would arm myself and fight to have a separate African-American nation not ruled European-Americans.

They responded appropriately and I hope that will make things calm down. Hopefully people stay safe right now.

Good.

Not sure it's enough, honestly a federal commission is needed to thoroughly review police approach, procedures and safeguards. God knows the police would fight this vigorously, and certainly no politician would propose it now, but I feel a proper review is required.

While the incident is regrettable, the riots are not justified.

I hope the police can put an end to the rioting. Violence is not the way.

You know, why isn't police reform an issue on the ballot?

Why? When you look to how African-Americans have been treated, it becomes obvious that the people in power ( European-Americans) don’t want them here. After 100’s of years being told that and no substantial change, I feel African-Americans would do much better fighting for there freedom and an autonomous country ruled by African-Americans.
What do they have to lose ? Death ? There dying anyway ! Torture ? Everyday they can’t move to a more safe area they use drugs to cancel output the brutal, savage, sadistic, vicious reality they live on. Yes, you can kill them and torture them, but you can’t kill the desire for freedom.

Traditionally any police force is highly resistant to any broad independent investigations into its actions. The idea is that it makes their job harder by adding a level of distrust among the public. I'm sure this is the case in the US, in the UK it means the abject corruption of the police involvement in phone tapping and general criminality in the late 80's and 90's has never been brought to light and can even lead to this..

This was the backdrop against which in the 70s the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) was established, and quickly gained popularity with the common people by targeting corrupt police officers.

But the force resisted the war on corruption violently. This period was defined by clashes between the two departments, ending with the police force’s infamous 1977 attack on the graft-busters’ headquarters. They stormed in and vandalised the anti-graft agency’s office, tearing down the ICAC plaque, smashing windows and doors, and beating up ICAC agents.

HK police covering themselves in glory as usual.

It can be very hard to even internally investigate police corruption, there's the famous documentary on some precinct in NY doing.. I mean it was crazy, they were pretty much a drug seller shop in and of itself.

“ Expand and use the power of the U.S. Justice Department to address systemic misconduct in police departments and prosecutors’ offices. Using authority in legislation spearheaded by Biden as senator, the Obama-Biden Justice Department used pattern-or-practice investigations and consent decrees to address circumstances of “systemic police misconduct” and to “restore trust between police and communities” in cities such as Ferguson. Yet, the Trump Administration’s Justice Department has limited the use of this tool. Under the Biden Administration, the Justice Department will again use its authority to root out unconstitutional or unlawful policing. In addition, Biden will push for legislation to clarify that this pattern-or-practice investigation authority can also be used to address systemic misconduct by prosecutors’ offices.

Investigating government corruption is basically impossible unless the levels of government are very far removed (like the FBI investigating some city council in Montana).

Ethnostates don't really have a good history.

So no, breaking off a piece of the US as an exclusively Afro-American state is definitely a terrible idea.

Merely getting fired seems like a pretty mild response to murdering someone.

Hopefully charges are forthcoming. Expect an announcement in the next few days.

When I say Minneapolis did the right thing, I mean that they didn't just place the officers on paid leave, as is so often the case.

Kneeling on someone's neck while they beg for their life and that they can't breathe is just straight up murder. All four officers deserve to be sent to prison for doing it or allowing it to happen.

The riots are justified, although I hope they be safe in this world of Covid we currently live in.

They're not. There was a lot of footage on the news today. It... it didn't look good. Very crowded, not enough masks.
