135th Torisakia Champions Cup presented by CINEVISION

The Torisakia Champions Cup, known as the Torisakia Champions Cup CINEVISION for sponsorship reasons, is an annual knockout association football competition in Torisakia. Beginning in 1884, the Torisakia Champions cup is organized by the Torisakia Association Football Federation (TASFA).

The competition is open to eligible clubs in the Torisakia association football pyramid from levels 1 (TSL) to 3 (A.L. Torisakia). The cup consists of two rounds, then the quarterfinals, semifinals, and the final. The Preliminary Round consists of the top 8 teams (excluding the champion) in the Torisakia Minor Soccer League, the top 6 teams (excluding the champion and runner-up) of the A.L. Torisakia, and two teams randomly drawn from the bottom 8 of the TSL and TMSL. The winners of the Preliminary Round move on to the Competition Proper, joining the top 8 teams (excluding the champion) in the Torisakia Soccer League. The winners of the Competition Proper move to the Second Round Proper, and from there the winners move to the semifinals and then the final. Matches are played as a series of 2 and are won based on aggregate score. All matches are played at teams home venues except for the final which is played at Postmeridian Stadium in Postmeridian, Postmeridian, Torisakia.

Winners receive the Willem Alfons Trophy, named after the first winning manager of the Torisakia Champions Cup. Winners also qualify for the Torisakia Community Shield, which pits the winner of the Torisakia Champions Cup against the winner of the previous TSL season.

Manat Take Narrow Lead Into Cup Break

Image

by Tufan Nursultan

Caykur Denizspor 1-2 Manat FK
Almat JK 1-1 Bakir FK
Demirspor 3-1 Tanrispor
Tashkentspor 1-0 Tutunspor
Devlet-Bira Fabrika Takimi 6-0 Demir Buyukkentspor
Hisar FK 1-0 Sariirmakspor
Elektriklestirmespor 5-0 Altinmaden Isciler
Uryanspor 1-0 Karairmakspor
Ilac Fabrika Takimi 1-0 Ampul Fabrika Takimi

Match of the Week - Caykur Denizspor 1-2 Manat FK - Manat extended their win streak to 10 matches with a narrow and scrappy encounter with Caykur Denizspor who put up an excellent fight for the presumptive champions, with an early goal serving as a sucker punch for the Demir side. Unfortunately for the hosts the quality difference would tell and Ismail Burhan would grab a goal and Lukas Szymon would grab the winner in the 78th minute.

Manat FK 3-2 Almat JK
Caykur Denizspor 1-3 Demirspor
Bakir FK 1-1 Tashkentspor
Tanrispor 0-2 Devlet-Bira Fabrika Takimi
Tutunspor 0-2 Hisar FK
Demir Buyukkentspor 1-2 Elektriklestirmespor
Sariirmakspor 0-1 Uryanspor
Altinmaden Isciler 1-0 Ilac Fabrika Takimi
Karairmakspor 0-1 Ampul Fabrika Takimi

Match of the Week - Manat FK 3-2 Almat JK - The lesser Demir Derby turned up an exceptional contest that many wouldn't have expected with Manat the heavy favourites and indeed they looked good for that label with an early goal from Sinan Pamuk looking to set the tone. However, Akyon Gurses and Cetin Binali would team up to deliver a goal each before the break ensuring that the visitors would go into the break ahead, with Manat's winning streak looking like it may come to an end. They would instantly claw back a goal with Valerija Nordberg grabbing the equaliser, while Ismail Burhan would collect the winning goal in the 59th minute securing the three points for them.

Demirspor 0-1 Manat FK
Tashkentspor 5-1 Almat JK
Devlet-Bira Fabrika Takimi 3-1 Caykur Denizspor
Hisar FK 1-0 Bakir FK
Elektriklestirmespor 2-1 Tanrispor
Uryanspor 1-0 Tutunspor
Ilac Fabrika Takimi 0-1 Demir Buyukkentspor
Ampul Fabrika Takimi 1-0 Sariirmakspor
Karairmakspor 1-2 Altinmaden Isciler

Match of the Week - Devlet-Bira Fabrika Takimi 3-1 Caykur Denizspor - DBFT took a big win over Caykur Denizspor this week, with Manat still racking up the wins especially after it looked like they would drop points with Tayyar Ozel's goal cancelled out by Tumenboga Kubilay's effort. Though it would be the former Manat man Omer Tameroglu grabbing a key brace that secured the three points for the Brewers.

Manat FK 4-1 Tashkentspor
Demirspor 0-6 Devlet-Bira Fabrika Takimi
Almat JK 2-2 Hisar FK
Caykur Denizspor 0-3 Elektriklestirmespor
Bakir FK 0-1 Uryanspor
Tanrispor 1-0 Ilac Fabrika Takimi
Tutunspor 0-2 Ampul Fabrika Takimi
Demir Buyukkentspor 1-0 Karairmakspor
Sariirmakspor 1-2 Altinmaden Isciler

Match of the Week - Almat JK 2-2 Hisar FK - The other lesser Demir Derby saw Almat and champions Hisar play an entertaining contest that ended in the only fair way it could have done, a share of the points for both sides since neither deserved to lose. Akyon Gurses grabbed a brace for himself with two goals in the 18th and 28th minute giving the home side a solid two goal lead that they took into the break. Hisar broke their characteristically defensive posture and took it to their opposition, with Yusuf Akman grabbing a brace of his own to secure a share of the points for Hisar.

Devlet-Bira Fabrika Takimi 4-2 Manat FK
Hisar FK 2-0 Tashkentspor
Elektriklestirmespor 2-1 Demirspor
Uryanspor 2-0 Almat JK
Ilac Fabrika Takimi 0-1 Caykur Denizspor
Ampul Fabrika Takimi 1-0 Bakir FK
Karairmakspor 0-0 Tanrispor
Altinmaden Isciler 1-1 Tutunspor
Sariirmakspor 0-2 Demir Buyukkentspor

Match of the Week - Devlet-Bira Fabrika Takimi 4-2 Manat FK - Manat failed to get past lucky number 13, with DBFT inflicting the first defeat on Manat this season with Omer Tameroglu who got himself a hat trick against his old side to condemn them to that defeat and put the first seeds of doubt in their invincibility. The brace from Ismail Burhan wasn't enough to secure any kind of result for them, as the trip away from home was too much for them.

Manat FK 1-1 Hisar FK
Devlet-Bira Fabrika Takimi 1-2 Elektriklestirmespor
Tashkentspor 0-0 Uryanspor
Demirspor 1-1 Ilac Fabrika Takimi
Almat JK 5-2 Ampul Fabrika Takimi
Caykur Denizspor 1-1 Karairmakspor
Bakir FK 2-0 Altinmaden Isciler
Tanrispor 2-0 Sariirmakspor
Tutunspor 1-1 Demir Buyukkentspor

Match of the Week - Almat JK 5-2 Ampul Fabrika Takimi - A rare Match of the Week which doesn't involve a top side, but it was an excellent affair that enthralled the neutrals around the country. Both sides exchanged goals on their way to a 2-2 score and after a stalemate a hat trick from Akyon Gurses broke the affair wide open and led to the points staying in Demir this week.

Elektriklestirmespor 4-9 Manat FK
Uryanspor 0-1 Hisar FK
Ilac Fabrika Takimi 1-2 Devlet-Bira Fabrika Takimi
Ampul Fabrika Takimi 1-3 Tashkentspor
Karairmakspor 0-4 Demirspor
Altinmaden Isciler 3-3 Almat JK
Sariirmakspor 1-2 Caykur Denizspor
Demir Buyukkentspor 0-2 Bakir FK
Tutunspor 1-0 Tanrispor

Match of the Week - Elektriklestirmespor 4-9 Manat FK - A titanic clash that was by far the most entertaining match of the season, with Elektriklestirmespor taking a 4-0 lead with Bayram Tansu's brace helping them along the way to that commanding halftime lead. Manat would come back and score an astounding nine goals in a single half of play, with Ismail Burhan not just getting a hattrick, but adding a goal on top on his way to his most complete performance of the season.

Manat FK 3-0 Uryanspor
Elektriklestirmespor 3-0 Ilac Fabrika Takimi
Hisar FK 5-1 Ampul Fabrika Takimi
Devlet-Bira Fabrika Takimi 4-2 Karairmakspor
Tashkentspor 2-2 Altinmaden Isciler
Demirspor 2-0 Sariirmakspor
Almat JK 2-0 Demir Buyukkentspor
Caykur Denizspor 2-1 Tutunspor
Bakir FK 1-0 Tanrispor

Match of the Week - Devlet-Bira Fabrika Takimi 4-2 Karairmakspor - DBFT continued to build up their momentum as they saw off Karairmakspor after taking a commanding 4-0 lead by the 55th minute with Omer Tameroglu claiming a brace for himself while Mengucek Hamzaoglu's two goals were nothing more than a consolation for the recently promoted side.

Ilac Fabrika Takimi 1-3 Manat FK
Ampul Fabrika Takimi 0-0 Uryanspor
Karairmakspor 1-1 Elektriklestirmespor
Altinmaden Isciler 1-2 Hisar FK
Sariirmakspor 0-1 Devlet-Bira Fabrika Takimi
Demir Buyukkentspor 0-2 Tashkentspor
Tutunspor 3-2 Demirspor
Tanrispor 0-2 Almat JK
Bakir FK 1-1 Caykur Denizspor

Match of the Week - Tutunspor 3-2 Demirspor - The final Match of the Week before the league break was an exciting contest between two sides that aren't in a position to be very entertaining as the league pushes into its second half, but they got their moment in the sun with this high scoring attacking affair. Etea Ohishitas grabbed the winning goal with a thunderous long range effort that rendered Kartal Unal's brace nothing more than a statistic to keep in competition to be the top scorer this season.

Top Scorers:
Ismail Burhan (Manat FK) - 15
Omer Tameroglu (DBFT) - 12
Bayram Tansu (Elektriklestirmespor) - 9
Yusuf Akman (Hisar FK) - 8
Kartal Unal (Demirspor) - 7

Three Narratives for the Second Half of The Season:

1. Who will Manat's main challenger be? So far this season Manat have appeared to be unstoppable, losing just one match (though this is an achievement they share with two other sides) and running up the score in absurd circumstances. Despite this they're only 3 points clear of DBFT who have set themselves up as their main challengers for now, but also a mere 6 points clear of red hot Elektriklestirmespor and the current holders, their city rivals, Hisar. Each of these three sides have their own case to make for being their main challenger, be it Hisar's vaunted defence, DBFT's fantastic defence and potent offence and Elektriklestirmespor's grit and determination as well as their now rabid fanbase. Tme will tell which of these will be Manat's true challenger, but my money is on champions Hisar heating up and closing the gap, the quality is there as is the experience of winning.

2. Will Uryanspor ever live up to their potential? Uryanspor have probably missed the boat on their window of title competitiveness, but that doesn't mean there isn't an incredibly talented core of players that still inhabit that squad. Last season was probably their best chance and missing it could mean a period of time dealing with fourth and fifth place finishes, not the worst thing in the world, but it'll surely leave a bitter taste for a side that seemed at one point to be the best on in the Super League. They are currently a somewhat distant fifth from fourth place, a solid six points behind, but a commanding nine points clear of Tashkentspor and Demirspor, perhaps indicating that fifth place is the floor for this side while they have such a talented group of players. Though that doesn't bode well for the long term, if the consistently fail to challenge for the title or qualify for IFCF competitions then that talented core may look elsewhere and Baskurt Cetinkaya may find himself out of work.

3. Is it the end of the road for Sariirmakspor? At the start of the season I predicted that the promoted sides would be ones to face the drop, but as we reach the cup break AFT are sitting four points clear of relegation, with two of the promoted sides occupying 16th and 18th, the filling in that relegation sandwich? Sariirmakspor. A side who many of us thought had made shrewd acquisitions and should have enough about them to avoid relegation. So far they've failed to get going, with talented midfielder Timurdogan Yerli looking extremely frustrated as he plays in a side well below his talent level. For a side with two talented players from abroad, in the form of Gila Lémery and Adamantine Xerxes to be struggling this poorly is an indictment of the manager, Hakan Vedat who will need to urgently turn it around in the second half of the season otherwise not only will this side face the drop, he'll be deservedly out of a job.

Arena Kirola (also known as the 66 Stadium)
Capacity: 78,200
Cathair, Audioslavia
Built in time for World Cup 66, the Arena Kirola has been the home of Audioslavia's national football team for as long as most living Audioslavians can remember. There has been very little call for the national team to change grounds in the intervening years. A long, narrow pitch is perfectly suited to the counter-attacking football prefered by the national team, and tenants 1830 Cathair have adopted their own way of utilising the pitch's peculiar (but perfectly legal, we may add) dimensions.

The high, bright white walls that surround the pitch are iconic. Once upon a time electronic advertising boards were mounted on the walls, but that practice has been replaced by the simple act of selling an entire side of the stadium to one bidder each, who then creates a mural advertising their product. Sometimes this works, like when energy drink company Saltire created a series of artworks based on Audioslavia's two World Cup triumphs to adorn the wall opposite the hard camera before an international against Nephara. Sometimes it doesn't work so well. Take, for example, the thousand-burger-wrapper collage made by fast food chain 'O'Diamhnaghs' over the first half of 1830 Cathair's most recent season. For a UICA Champions' Cup Final, the FFA would give the most prominent wall over to TaqilQuip for whatever purpose they require, despite protestations from a Kirola company that was already miffed that their name was removed for the two previous finals held at the national stadium.

The 66 Stadium contains an array of amenities, from top quality restaurants to saunas, shops and supermarkets, to appease those sponsors that might only be traveling to the greatest club match in club football in order to network with their business buddies.

The stadium is getting on a bit, and as such the capacity has been lowered after renovations which converted the uppermost section of the top tier into higher-priced boxed seating.
Final Site Bid: AOCL Final
Burdina Jauregia
Capacity: 85,000
City: Ferramendiak, Audioslavia
The Burdina Jauregia, or Iron Palace in the local dialect, was finished just a few months before World Cup 75 and was used to host the opening match of the tournament as well as the fourth quarter-final, in which Audioslavia put five goals past Electrum.

The outer structure uses, as the name suggests, quite a lot of iron, if only for visual effect, and more modern materials are used the higher up the stadium you go. The ground's most noticeable feature is the criss-cross iron pattern over the roof, giving it the feel of an oversized implement from one of the Saw films when viewed from far away.

Inside, the pitch is large and surrounded on all sides by two tiered stands that rise up to the aforementioned grid. The seats, numerous and fairly luxurious as far as stadia go, are painted white in the colours of tenants KT Ferramendiak, who moved into the stadium at the end of World Cup 75. The stadium has played host to a Globe Cup final, which was a point of pride for club KT Ferramendiak, but only after arch city rivals KT Itzalovalle had been knocked out in the semi-finals of the very same tournament.

3rd Edition of The Fekadu Financial Power Index - Part III
Authored by Dr. Sololeya Fekadu, Dean of the College of Sports Studies at Northern Moravica University

This is the club ranking! There are exactly 400 rankable clubs in this section, as well as 41 unrankable clubs. As for the rankable clubs- the formula is the same for the Financial Power Index, although the number is slightly different. A club is unrankable when all their purchases are made for undeterminable prices. A club with all their purchases listed at $0.00 can be ranked, however, a club with all their purchases listed for Undisclosed, or some other non-number, cannot be ranked.

To better show the spread between various clubs, the club FPI numbers will look larger than the national ones, which would not make sense. When we calculate the actual FPI, we divide by 100 to give an easier number to deal with. Crucially, There is enough disparity at all levels within the FPI on a national level where even by shrinking the number, the difference between two close associations can easily be compared.

Smaller numbers are always easier to deal with for data like this. But this is not possible at the club level. Due to the number of clubs, there are a lot of clubs who are very closer together. Therefore, we decided to not divide by 100. You'll have to make the extra step to divide the number by 100 if you want to compare it to a national FPI, but that's not the purpose of our data. The purpose, of course, is to compare clubs to various clubs.

We also apologize for a lack of club-by-club analysis regarding this edition for the Top 20 - with major sporting events forthcoming in the Moravica Region, I and some of my top students will be working on those. It is a great opportunity for the students, possibly once in a lifetime, and I would be failing my duty as a Professor if I were to deny my students this opportunity. Can't go public yet, but it will be public soon enough. But the data is prepared, it is accurate, and it is ready, and we do have limited general analysis in the form of notes. This is also why the underlying data for clubs ranked 21-394 has not been released as well- while, of course, we have the data and it can be provided upon request, preparing it for use here would have been a bridge too far, with the sudden time constraints imposed upon us.

And, of course, to be clear, this is the data analyzed from Transfer Windows 25-27. Unlike the data for Parts I and II, data for purchases between clubs of the same nation(that we could, find anyways) was included. And, we should also say, the limits that apply to Parts I & II also apply here- we don't know revenues, so this is more of a reflection of 'expressed financial power' than a straight up money league.

Without further ado!

Notes
- Bastion being up were they were was no surprise- $75 million spent, no money back. All on one purchase- this past window, splurging $75 million NSDs on Laborious Hawk. In terms of the transfer window, Laborious Hawk is the most valuable player of all time. This is not our opinion- this is math. Laborious Hawk is the only player in history to be worth 9 figures, selling for $101 million in Window 14 to AC Izotz Zubia in Audioslavia. Now, all these years later, Laborious Hawk is being sold again, and even though has technically lost 25% of value, being sold for $75 million NSDs to Bastion of Eura. That's $176 million in career international transfer fees for one player- the most of any player ever. And who better to make that purchase than Bastion? Not many clubs could have popped $75 million, in one go, without having to do some sort of sell-off to fund it first. And fewer, if they had the funds, would've been able to get Hawk to say yes. But Bastion did it without blinking an eye, and then without making a sale- a strong showcase of their financial muscle, and their hope that Hawk will bring them to the promised land in the Champions League.
- 3 of the 10 richest clubs in the world are in Eura- and they have a fourth in the Top 20, who is ranked 15th. How much money is at the top in this sport- four of the six most financially powerful clubs over the last three windows are in Rushmore- Bastion(EUR-1), Crisisbless(NPH-2), Ulsa(EUR-4), and Brinemouth(NPH-6). And, of course, Bastion's $75 million purchase of Laborious Hawk put them far and away ahead of everybody else in these rankings. But it even goes beyond that. 10 of the multiverse's 15 most financially powerful clubs reside in Rushmore. Eura(4), Nephara(2), Donnacona(1), Schottia(1), Pasarga(1), and Darmen(1) all contributing to this list. And there are two more behind them, bringing 12 of the top 20 clubs on this list from Rushmore. The interesting part is that the wealth is spread out there- while Eura is top of this list, you have 7 nations from Rushmore, once you add in Taeshan, contributing clubs to this Top 20 list.
- All of the top 20 clubs, naturally, are from the Big 3 sporting regions. Rushmore with 12, Atlantian Oceania with 7, Esportiva with one- Northern Union, who just won the Champions League. The richest club from a non Big 3 sporting region is Avante Leípreachan, from Havynwilde, who are ranked just 38th on this list.

2019-20 Alfa League season review

Postby Talamia » Thu May 28, 2020 3:46 am

Season: 2019-2020
Dates: 25 August 2019 - 10 May 2020
Number of teams: 14
Champions: Image Alla Fofokoy (12th title)
Relegated: Image Dapsileī
Matches played: 182
Goals scored: 466 (2,56 per match)

The 2019-2020 Alfa League was the 118th edition of the Alfa League, the top professional Talamian football league. Fortis Epops were the defending champions. It began on 25 August 2019 and ended on 10 May 2020.

Alla Fofokoy won the 2019–20 Alfa League and their 12th league title overall with a 2-1 victory over PAS Geitorisma on 3 May 2020, with one round remaining. Alla Fofokoy returned to victory after 10 years, having won the last time in the 2008-09 season. On that occasion, the runners-up were Dapsileī, who completed the 2019-20 season in last place, relegating to the Beta League.

The games were all played on Sundays at 3:00 pm and broadcast by Pro Diorux Sports.

Events

For the first time in history, the Talamia Soprts' Summaka - the governing body of all sports in Talamia - has decided to participate in the selections for the IFCF Super Cup and the Challengers Cup. The championship winner will qualify for the most important tournament, while the teams qualified from second to fourth place will participate to the minor trophy.

Fourteen teams competed in the league – the top thirteen teams from the previous season and the winner of 2018-2019 Beta League. Acroscope won against NK Kornelius the 2018-2019 relegation play-offs, to remain in Alfa League. The promoted team was Ighli, returning to the top flight after an absence of two years. It replaced Liptelj Union, relegated after one season in the top flight.

The first matchdays saw Fortis Epops and Clinepalas United as undisputed protagonists, as predicted. Fortis Epops lived a season in search of the thirtieth success in their history, thanks to last year's victory. Clinepalas United, on the other hand, tried to do everything to prevent this from happening and to win their twenty-fourth title and keep up with the club of Epopsoli. But from the sixth round onwards, Alla Fofokoy were able to establish themselves as the third great threat, beating Fortis Epops 2-1. The red and black archery of Fofokoy triumphed surprisingly, returning to winning the competition exactly after ten years and dominating the league from the seventh matchday.

At the bottom of the board, on the other hand, the fight for relegation was very fierce and it was settled only on the last round, with the relegation of Dapsileī, who had fought Acroscope throughout the whole season. After the second place of ten years ago and the third in the following season, Dapsileī faced many financial problems during the summer, with the entry to the championship arrived at the last available moment and the sale of their best players. The newly promoted Ighli surprised the rest of the teams, finishing seventh, while KarpìStomà, a small club always in the balance between Beta League and Alfa League, took the fourth place. Twelfth on the last edition, they were much reinforced thanks to the important purchases of the summer session of transfer market, following the acquisition of the club by the billionaire Tape Amilla, owner of TooToughTalamia.

Acroscope, who finished the season in the penultimate place, faced NK Kornelius, the runners-up of the 2019-2020 Beta League, in the relegation play-offs. Acroscope won the first leg 2-1, playing in their home stadium. On May 21 2020, after a 1-1 draw in Stamexo, Acroscope managed to remain in Alfa League for the next season.

For the first time, Clinepalas United played their home games in the new-born Boy-King Park, owned by the club, after the president's decision to stop playing in the historic Ebdemar Au'tokra Stadium, renovated one year earlier.

No club faced the Alfa League for the first time. The debut of a new team is still missing from the 2011-2012 season, when Tuchret made its debut, strong - for the first time in its history - of winning the previous season's Beta League.

The most represented region was Mentrenalio, with four teams, including three from the city of Clinepalas (Clinepalas United, SF Lampride and Ptoco) and one from Fofokoy (Alla Fofokoy). Uperinde followed with three teams (Afestosja, Hellas Anen and Ighli), then Crocora (Acroscope and FK Katacra), Pento (KarpìStomà and PAS Geitorisma) and Ulepops (Fortis Epops and Dapsileī) with two teams each. The only team to represent the Epicesi region was Epacra Delphis. With the relegation of Liptelj Union, the Iseremia region found itself without a representative after two years.

Matches of the Round: Vefa 9-4 Bezhatspor on aggregate - A wild ride over both legs that saw Vefa win 8-3 away from home in one of the greatest matches that very few will ever see as there is no broadcast of it that wasn't a fan's smartphone broadcasting to the nation. The rather anticlimactic second leg did nothing to take out the entertaining nature of this match as Vefa managed to advance to the round of 32 with a historic match under their belts.

Upset of the Round: Manat 2-6 Devlet Memur Takimi on aggregate - For a side as seemingly invincible as Manat, a match up with a lowly side such as Devlet Memur Takimi should seem nothing more than a formality of making it through the 180 minutes of play. Instead they suffered a stunning and clear defeat over both matches meaning the Super League's presumptive champions will not be making a deep cup run this year.

Matches of the Round: Havranspor 3-3 Sadarakspor on aggregate - An exciting encounter between two sides down the pyramid, fortunately after the mistake of not broadcasting the Vefa - Bezhatspor match, this one had cameras in attendance and it was an entertaining and open match between two enthusiastic sides. The neutrals and even the fans of both sides will be richer having experienced this match.

Upset of the Round: Sarayonuspor 2-2 Dagkoyspor on aggregate - Sarayonuspor are a side outside of the TimLig system who may well be on their way to the Amateur League and they showed why when the knocked off Dagkoyspor and advanced to the Round of 16 after an amazing 2-1 win away from home against their larger foes.

Sarayonuspor 0-2 Hisar FK (1-2 agg)

Matches of the Round: Almat 7-4 Havranspor on aggregate - Almat and Havranspor are two sides who are far apart in the league system, but they both put on a show in their two matches and it's a shame for Havranspor that they don't get to advance, but Almat have managed to make a deep run in this contest making it to the quarter final as one of the two remaining Demir sides in the contest.

Bakir FK 1-0 Tutunspor (1-0 agg)
Tutunspor 0-1 Bakir FK (0-2 agg)

Altinmaden Isciler 2-0 Hisar FK (2-0 agg)

Uryanspor 0-0 Tashkentspor (0-0 agg)
Tashkentspor 1-0 Uryanspor (1-0 agg)

Matches of the Round: Hisar FK 4-3 Altinmaden Isciler on aggregate - The league champions have not had an easy season so far, but they have been a bit more open at the back and this showed when they were dealt a stunning 2-0 defeat at the hands of Altinmaden Isciler before coming back to Demir to win 4-1 securing their progress to the semi final.

Bakir FK 1-0 Tashkentspor (1-0 agg)
Tashkentspor 2-0 Bakir FK (2-1 agg)

Caykur Denizspor 0-1 Hisar FK (0-1 agg)
Hisar FK 2-0 Caykur Denizspor (3-0 agg)

Matches of the Round: Tashkentspor 2-1 Bakir FK on aggregate - Bakir FK have made a shocking run to the semi finals and will look back fondly on this edition of the Vizier's Cup, but ultimately a 1-0 win at home against Tashkentspor wasn't enough to see them through to the final.

Tashkentspor 0-0 Hisar FK (0-0 AET, 0-0 agg, 4-2 PKs)

The final was a tense affair between two sides who adopted defensive outlooks, both sides would muster occasional offensive forays into the other's territory, but often these would meet with the opposing twin walls of Eichi Fujiwara the Hinodejin international and Swaine Caldridge for Tashkentspor, both often foiling the opposing sides build up at critical times. There would be chances and Tashkentspor would get the better of them throughout, only the excellent goalkeeping of Saban Inekci keeping Hisar from falling behind on the rare occasions where the defence was breached. Such was the defensive fortitude on display that the match went to extra time and penalties all without any goals being scored. Ultimately it was a save from Tashkent keeper Iltas Gokcen that secured the cup for Tashkentspor who have won their first ever piece of silverware under new manager Ildemir Akkoz.

Valladares (VLD) final site bids

Copa de Campeones: Stade de la Frontière, Fontvielle (Cap. 41,378)

The Valladar Football Association, the Mayoralty of Fontvielle, Tamount Inc., and the Executive Board of Impact de Fontvielle Football Club wish to put the Stade de la Frontière to the consideration of the CRF as a potential venue for the next Copa de Campeones final.

Located in the outskirts of the city of Fontvielle, near the southern border of Valladares (hence its name), 10 minutes away from the city centre, and mostly known for being the home stadium of 2-time Champions' Cup winners and 14-time Liga-1 champions Fontvielle Impact, this stadium initially seated 36,000 fans, however, remodeling works performed before the start of Copa Rushmori 10 brought the capacity up to 41,378 seats with the expansion of the second tier of seats in the Est and Ouest stands. The stadium is also equipped with 50 VIP boxes located in the Ouest stand, half of which were built during the aforementioned remodelation, a restaurant in the northwestern corner in which dishes prepared with Tamount cheeses or milk are the main attraction, and a 5-star hotel in the northeastern corner.

The VFA, the local authorities, and the club Fontvielle Impact believe that the Stade de la Frontière will be up to the expectations of the CRF Selection Committee and, should this bid is chosen, they will do their best to ensure this Copa de Campeones final is memorable not only for the finalist teams and their fans (if any), but also for the regional footballing universe as a whole.

Introduction to the Squidroidian football system

Super League, Challenge League, Squidroidian Cup and IFCF qualification

The nation of Squidroidia (SQU) prides itself on an entertaining club football scene. Even though there are only 12 teams in the country (8 professional and 4 amateur), each of these football clubs provides a nation with not much freedom the ability to cheer on their heroes when they take to the pitch. As such Squidroidia would like to make itself known to partake in IFCF competition starting after the confetti flies for the Squidroidian Cup on June 17th. The 12 sides in Squidroidian football are meant for anyone to support due to their unique identities, and even though a Squidroidian team won't win the Champions Cup anytime soon, the people and the players of the clubs are daring to dream every single day. 79 games in a season, but a lifetime of memories - That's how Squidroidian football works.

The Squidroidian Super League

The Squidroidian Super League is the top flight of football in the nation of Squidroidia, and it's where you'll find the 8 professional teams in the country. These teams play each-other twice for a 14 game season, where the top team at the end of the road is crowned Super League Champions. Super League games are Squidroidia's most watched sports events (Aside from international competitions), and the National Derby between Inkopolis FC and FC Squidroidia Squidbreak is viewed by a majority of people from around the country and some from outside its borders. The 8 Super League outfits are:

  • Inkopolis FC, the Club of the People and Squidroidia's most supported team
  • FC Squidroidia Squidbreak, the "army team" who pluck the best players from other sides upon enlistment to the military
  • Calamari Wanders CFC, the "Football Seat" often called the "Inked Squids" due to their white kits
  • Real Squidroid CF, a club with extreme worship towards the people who ended up birthing Squidroidia
  • Tractor Club Sawayama, a literal farm team with a chunk of farmland adjacent to the stadium
  • Midnight Soccer Club, home of the "Blackout" and celebrating up until midnight
  • Starlight Boulevard FC, a club based on urban culture (like using "Where Da Hood At" as the club's walk-on anthem)
  • Tyranny Sports Club, a whole bunch of misfits

As there is no promotion or relegation in the Super League, the teams don't change year on year. This focuses the clubs on maintaining a competitive team and to have stable finances year on year. Teams in this league harbor national team-level talent who all are payed a living wage by their clubs and have stadiums no less than 15,000 capacity, with Inkopolis FC's Inkopolis City Stadium seating 50,000. The SSL is where Squidroidians pay most attention to in terms of football, but there is a strong subsection of Squidroidian football fans who prefer the nation's amateur 2nd division.

The Squidroidian Challenge League

The Squidroidian Challenge League is the 2nd division of football in the nation of Squidroidia, home of 4 passionate teams. The amateur league, home to schoolboys getting started on their careers during their education and aging Squidroidians almost ready to hang them up, has a 6 game home and away season stretched over the course of the 14 game schedule that the SSL has, making sure that the players can pursue other paths when not playing the game. The Challenge League title isn't something that would catch the eye of the national team, but that is made up for by the cultures of the 4 teams, all looking to find their footing and promote new talents to the Super League sides. These 4 teams are:

  • Octo Valley FC, the most supported team in the Challenge League, known as the Octolings
  • Weedpot FC, a club who like to smoke the precious devil's grass, also known as the Dank
  • Club Factoria, a team born and raised off of steampunk architecture, also known as the factory team
  • TryHard Sporting, Squidroidia's plucky underdogs and the worst team in the nation

The lack of teams in the SCL and the lack of pro/rel to the Super League makes this part of Squidroidian football the least explored. Due to the lack of wages, these clubs focus all of their money from gate receipts, TV revenue and prize money towards their club, and as such these teams have some great youth academies with future national team talent.

The Squidroidian Cup

Throughout the season, all 12 Squidroidian clubs travel to Inkopolis for the chance to lift the Squidroidian Cup. The Squidroidian Cup is the nation's knockout cup competition, and it's held entirely within Inkopolis City Stadium. It's the biggest sporting event in the country as all the teams put their best foot forward to win some silverware. The winner of the Squidroidian Cup also gets to compete in the IFCF Cup Winner's Cup, and that also applies to the Challenge League teams. The format of the Squidroidian Cup is simple:

  • Preliminary Round - The 4 Challenge League teams each compete against the teams 8th to 5th in the Super League
  • Quarter-Finals - The winners of the Preliminary Round are drawn randomly with the top 4 teams in the Super League, the winners of the 4 games go to the Semi-Finals
  • Semi-Finals - The winners of the Quarter-Finals games are drawn against each other with a Final berth on the line
  • Final - The 2 remaining teams face each other for the Squidroidian Cup

IFCF Competition Berths

At the end of the season, the teams who fought tooth and nail for the right to be successful and even lift trophies are the ones to enter their souls into the halls of the IFCF next season. International club football can be tricky, but the prestige for a club is more than worth it if they make it far. Squidroidia's proposed allocations for IFCF competitions are:

  • Champions League (1 spot) - Super League Champion
  • Challenger’s Cup (3 spots) - Super League 2nd to 4th (A spot will be allocated to 5th place in the Super League if one of these teams also wins the Squidroidian Cup)
  • Liga B Champions Trophy (3 spots) - Challenge League top 3 (A spot will be allocated to 4th place in the Challenge League if one of the top 3 sides in the Challenge League also wins the Squidroidian Cup)
  • Cup Winner's Cup - Squidroidian Cup winner (If the Squidroidian Cup winner finishes in a Challenger's Cup or Liga B Champions Trophy spot, that allocated spot will be moved one position downwards)
  • Liga dos Vencedores - Top 2 teams in the Super League
  • Taça das Confederações - 3rd place team in the Super League

No information is available for the Rising Stars Cup as Squidroidia doesn't have a youth league.

More information on the Squidroidian Super League, Challenge League and the Squidroidian Cup can be found by accessing the Squidroidian Sport Newswire, which is regularly updated with results from the 3 competitions. Summaries for the results of the teams in IFCF competitions can also be found there. We here at Squidroidia hope that our teams get the results they deserve!

Navel Sharks cruised through to a twenty-first domestic championship after taking the lead since Round 10 after beating rivals (and until then leaders) Eastburg United 5-2 in Jamestown and not letting anyone get close to them. Despite the Blue-Blacks had a difficult start to the season, dropping points to crosstown rivals Navel FC and Racing de Terranova and losing to Olimpia at home, that defeat against the Franjeado was the turning point for the Sharks' campaign and with it started a streak that saw them steal a point from Lagoon Town and the Red Diamonds, thrash Atlantis at Yellow Park and knock the Orange off top spot in order to place themselves in first place and not looking back for the remainder of the season. Eventually, the Sharks reached Round 29 with a high-risk trip to Atlantis and a 14-point cushion on second-placed Navel FC, who were visiting the Greencaps at the National Stadium. To push the title race for yet another week, Los Rojos needed a win against their relegation-threatened rivals and a loss for their arch-rivals in Atlantis, neither of which happened since a 4-1 defeat for NFC coupled with a win for the Sharks at Yellow Park were enough to hand the title to the Blue-Blacks, as well as qualification for the next Champions' League, with four matches to spare.

With the title already decided, eyes fell on the battle for the three Challenger's Cup berths, with Racing de Terranova taking advantage of that setback for Navel FC by seizing second place with a 3-2 win at home against Athletic Victoria, while three other heavyweights in the form of Lagoon Red Diamonds, Atlantis, and Eastburg United were separated by just one point. A pivotal match in the race came in Round 30, with Navel FC narrowly beating Atlantis to return to second place (taking advantage of Racing's draw against the newly-crowned champions) and also derailing the Yellows' international aspirations, and Eastburg United boosting their IFCF bid by beating Vieux-Port and leaving the Red Diamonds behind in fifth place, only unable to get a scoreless draw out of their visit to Olimpia and the National Stadium. Another crucial match was played the following week, and this one saw Navel FC get a decisive win in Terranova against direct rivals Racing, while United, Red Diamonds, and Atlantis all increased their pressure on the latter with wins of their own. However, Olimpia would return to play another big role in the following round, taking Atlantis out of contention for good with a 2-0 win over the Yellow side, and reducing the race to just four teams.

And then we reached Round 33, with Navel FC and Eastburg United both with 53 points and all but qualified for the Challengers' Cup, the Red Diamonds holding the last ChC berth with 52 points, and Racing with one last chance to make it into the international stage with 50 points, and a favourable H2H record against Eastburg. Rojos and Oranges would be playing against each other in Eastburg, while the Red Diamonds had to visit Atlantis, and Racing's last match was at home against Olimpia, hoping for a victory and a loss for United to sneak into the Challenger's Cup. Eventually, both sides from Victoria Island (Eastburg and the Red Diamonds) confirmed themselves into IFCF's secondary competition by winning their matches, and while Racing didn't allow any surprises coming from Olimpia and managed to tie NFC in points, they were left out of international football on H2H, the Rojos' recent 3-2 win in Terranova being instrumental to that effect. Meanwhile, Atlantis finished in sixth place with 48 points, having lost the chance to face the Red Diamonds in a winner-takes-all last match, and bidding farewell to the season with another defeat and unable to return to the Challenger's Cup next season.

In the middle of the pack we find surprise package FC Moncton, shocking everyone in their maiden season as Premier League side by claiming unexpected results against rivals such as Eastburg United (whom they beat the three times they played each other), Atlantis, the Red Diamonds, and Navel FC (whom they beat once and drew in another match), which helped them get rid of any relegation fears in quick fashion. They even had the chance to fight in the IFCF contention for some weeks, but eventually lacked enough gas to keep running there. Meanwhile, Athletic Victoria started the season on fire, handing Navel FC an early upset with a 3-1 win at Portomar Field on Round 1 and taking the lead for the first six weeks until a 3-0 thumping at the hands of Racing in Terranova brought them back to reality and out of the league's summit. The Victorians were unable to recover from this defeat and slowly slid into mid-table, where they were good enough to stay until the end of the season. On the other hand, Olimpia's story is the exact opposite one: having experienced a dismal form during the first third of the season (winning only 1 match and collecting 6 points in 11 outings) and a slight improvement in the second third, which was not enough to lift them from the basement, the Franjeado had an impressive reversal of fortunes in the final third, only losing to the Navel giants and securing their survival with one match to spare following that victory over Atlantis in Navel Island, which made the defeat to Racing on the final day of the season irrelevant as they were saved from the drop.

The Greencaps are still far from being a threat and this season were only able to escape relegation thanks to their H2H record against CCD, which saw the former Brantalentian side win two matches and lose the other one, while despite CCD's own comeback, the campaigns performed by Eastburg United's crosstown rivals and Vieux-Port were poor enough to reward those teams with two tickets to the Campeonato Nacional for the next season.

The Whirl Islands Campeonato Nacional Season 51

Despite Vieux-Port FC's dismal Premier League campaign that will see them returning to this competition next season, the town of Puerto Viejo will not be left without representation in the top flight of Whirl-Islander football thanks to Náutico. Vieux-Port FC's sibling battled neck-to-neck with the likes of Deportivo Maracaibo, Lagoon Crocodiles and Sporting Ayacucho for the promotion and LBCT berths throughout the season, a fight which ultimately ended with Albirrojos and Marabinos clinching promotion to the Premier League, and deciding the Campeonato Nacional title in the last round in which the former beat the latter 4-3 in Puerto Viejo to leapfrog them for the championship. With the Crocodiles as well as Sporting being left with no chances of promotion, they had no choice but to fight for the final LBCT berth, joined in that fight by Sparta Navel, who reached the final stretch of the league in top form. However, the Crocodiles were able to endure the attempts of Sporting and Sparta and ended up claiming the third and last international berth. Atlético Narissa tried to get into that race at some point in the season, however, a series of defeats entering the final part of the season dashed their hopes to fight, while FC Terranova's largely inconsistent performance quickly left Terranova's second team out of the race. While Union FC, the Seahawks, and the Dolphins had no trouble to dispose of Halcones de Maracaibo and Arica thrice each, they were unable to pose a significant threat to the teams in the upper half of the zone and were left drifting in mid-table as a result. And speaking of both Halcones and Barcinos, their poor campaigns this time are not coming as a surprise to anyone anymore, especially with Arica trying so hard to hog the tournament's Wooden Spoons...

Season 30

Matchday One

The atmosphere at the Eagles' Club was tense and slightly somber in Rovers' United first game since the traumatic offseason. Both sides were clearly itching to get back to football, however, and this being Zwangzug there was very little in the way of memorializing of public grief. As it happened, the Rovers had the "fortune" of being drawn against unassuming Canbix, who posed little challenge to the "home" side. Elena Drys-Weller, Inez Torre, and Rowan Singh all scored, but the victory was truly a team effort in every sense of the word, yada yada yada.

Trink and Esper won by similar margins, but top on GD is actually Bassabook, who put four unanswered past Namiri Independent in Sharag.

Matchday Two

The home opener for the defending champions did not go so well, with Samuel Rigney-Jones and Alma Newhouser scoring two early goals for visitors Ephesian. Bassabook were left to try and rally through Amos Noile-Murne, but Ephesian didn't defend so much as dominate possession and leave the hosts no opportunity to get back in the game.

Having defeated Bassabook's archrivals 102d last week, Ephesian remain one of two perfect teams; the other are Esper, who silenced the Rovers' feel-good (?) story with a quick goal from Barbara Mears. As you were, then.

Matchday Three

On the one hand, Ephesian are the only remaining perfect team; on the other, they got to be at home against Slogda today, so does that really count? Slogda did score two goals, via Caleb Vindman and Kuzma Poulson, which as you'll recall puts them a quarter of the way to matching last season's tally, and it's still just the third game. Ephesian scored through Rigney-Jones, Jaclyn Burkhart, Obi Enger (who wasn't a very good name idea because control-Fing "Enger" gets notes about the Challengers' competition, stupid acronym anyway), and Maia Cumple-Sead.

Matchday Four

Canbix, despite or perhaps because of that drubbing against the Rovers, won their next two games, and knocked off Ephesian today; Astograthi arrival Potz Gambor assisted Ariel Greft for the only goal. Esper capitalized upon this by defeating Namiri Independent behind a Marlon Sayle-Bren goal; Independent have yet to score a goal.

Matchday Five

Indepdndent, perhaps annoyed about being called out, retaliate by scoring four against the Rovers (perhaps five, but Jamsetjee Amla-Patel scored in his own net shortly after the restart, so he did not actually get a "brace" on the day). Spenson took full advantage of their home game against Slogda, with Lorna Hewitt, Ernesto Valdez, and Martin Ogilvie scoring, and Itzhak Canterbury posting a rather easy shutout. Lucas Kukiseso's domestic career is winding down, but he is still a leader in the midfield; you wonder what kind of quirky manager he's going to be in a few cycles' time.

Matchday Six

FTC United were the only side yet to have taken even a half-point from their first five games, but they too reaped the benefits of a trip to Slogda District, with Sujong Park and Britta Henderson scoring. This hauled the Oxen up to fourteenth, albeit on GD, and dropped Alaisti to sixteenth, where they are likely to remain. Uh, spoilers.

Matchday Seven

Namiri Forest, who were runners-up to Bassabook last season, failed to score against a Rovers defense that was mostly playing the kids. And by the kids we really mean college kids who bumbled into this mess, since their usual second-string defenders have developed a bad case of the deads. Even for hyperkarelan Forest, this is kind of underwhelming.

Matchday Eight

So here's a kind of funny thing. The northeastern sides, Arlington and Ephesian, are tied for second behind Spenson. Both of them have the same goal differential, and they won't face each other until the last day of the half. So, they really are statistically tied. Now in another league, you might use goals for as a tiebreaker, but we would never do that because takilan conspiracies. What's funny is that, if we did, hyper-attacking Ephesian would still be behind nominally-defensive Arlington, who have somehow managed to score and concede more than their local rivals despite, uh, not looking like they would be set up to do that.

Part of that, of course, comes from the different opposition they've faced. Ephesian managed to post a shutout against a Namiri Independent side who, like their district rivals, have perhaps been underperforming to date. Arlington, however, found themselves caught up in Bassabook's boisterousness in a "rematch" of last season's race. The hosts took the lead through Gordon Blum and Jonah McCollins, only for the visitors to score three without reply. A Simon Osnes brace straddled halftime, and Joshua Twoni assisted Vince Chandra on the go-ahead goal. Undeterred, Bassabook struck back through Mallie Roosevelt-Cun.

However, the Rovers' whole...deal...was apparently not enough contrived dramatics for this season, because Arlington had to go do more Arlington things. For those of you not versed in the ways of their current, and very atypical, cult hero, this meant that Sydney Stefred scored in minute 90+2, and then in postgame press called the entire notion of an "old boys'" club some words that the Bassabook Baritone did not print.

Matchday Nine

My editor isn't letting me use the "benefitted from the long trip to Slogda" District cliche again so I'll just say that Arlington Won Handily. Spenson just about kept pace with them, but were held to a draw by a surging Eintracht Trink side. Eyob Zonde, the West Squornshelan Remnant midfielder, scored for the visitors, as did local products Benji Lurie and Sebastian Lowe. Ogilvie scored Spenson's first and third goal, and Valdez converted a set piece after Kukiseso drew a foul and everyone worried about his concussions again. He's fine.

(Scrawled in in a different font: also in the bitter central derby, Keppal and Canbix drew scorelessly. I'm supposed to mention this because foreshadowing!)

Matchday Ten

Nobody made much headway at the top. Spenson overtake Arlington on GD after losing to Namiri Independent by less dismal margins than Arlington lost to Canbix; the Muses, under manager Vanessa Rossum, have been steadily improving this year and might threaten for a IFCF place. Or they might just be a flash in the pan. Anyway, they're in fith and Bassabook are sixth, so that's a thing.

Ephesian came out worse in the clash of the extremists; Namiri Forest finally showed some bite, with Vishal Ghatak and Jahan Gurshasp scoring. Rigney-Jones pulled one back in garbage time, which of course made the Forest fans very upset. Why would you call it garbage time when it could be recycling time?

Matchday Eleven

On another day, Spenson's showdown with third-place Ephesian would have garnerered most of the headlines; Kukiseso's opening goal was a thing of beauty, and the stamina displayed by the inexhaustible Zwischen defense eventually reaped dividends when Enger's set piece tied it up at 3-3, the final score. However, two sides chose this day to demonstrate the form that reminded us why they, in Bassabook's case, won the league last season, or, in Slogda's case, didn't.

(Blum 8 and 40 and 71, Roosevelt-Cun 27 and 60, Sarikaya 52, Giovanni Urquhart 84)

Bassabook Old Boys SEVEN, Excelsior Slogda nil.

Matchday Twelve

Spenson jumped out to a quick two-goal lead via Hewitt and Valdez, and then Canterbury parked the train and made it look easy again. This isn't actually a surprise. Spenson are very good right now, and their defense has been quite stingy. (It's too early to talk about whose is best; Esper, Keppal, Spenson, Canbix, and Namiri Forest are all within one goal of the best defensive record so far.)

What is a surprise is that Forest are the team that capitulated so readily against them. For the national team, Chevanthi Arokiaraj's ability to stymie every attack is well-known (so is her devotion to the Trimurti, of course), and Kausalya Vizirani has been doing well when she gets the chance to play. Here, however, Arokiaraj is too old and Vizirani is too young to accomplish anything. The only good news for Forest so far is that Mkabia is collapsing so there's a small chance they can get Akhil Sibal back, if he decides he actually wants to, which is at this point highly unlikely.

Arlington fail to keep pace, due to drawing with the Rovers. The potential narrative we were all worried about was Stefred versus the ghosts of Rovers past (not literally, obviously, that'd be weird, just like, their whole, Narrative problems). But to their credit, the living Rovers are very much in the mindset of "we've had our grief and we want to play football now." Resenting history, albeit liking the statistical parts of it, is a more innately Zwangzugian thing than Stefred gives us credit for, sometimes. Anyway, the actual issue is that Celeste Fahrenthold was having one of her dire showings, easily allowing Jill McFoun and grizzled captain Ryan Welkin-Farr to blast goals in from the midfield. It took a Chandra goal and a low-lying Riley Kivrin set piece (to be fair, that's redundant) to secure a half-point for Arlington.

Matchday Thirteen

Sporting Esper took sole possession of the "best defense" leaderboard by a stultifying scoreless draw in Bassabook. Arlington took the lead in the, uh, actual leaderboard, by virtue of being the only team to score more than one goal, via Osnes and Twoni. They did concede to Lowe and Trink, but that is more the fault of Jenna Kowalski's lackadaisical defense than Stefred being suspended or Fahrenthold being distracted by shiny objects.

Matchday Fourteen

Spenson defeated the Oxen, which let them leapfrog Arlington, who were held to a bleak scoreless draw by a mediocre Namiri. The Independent Namiri who are used to being in the top of the bottom half, not the Forest Namiri who enjoy intense scoreless draws and are not used to being in the top of the bottom half. Those guys beat Twineur.

Ephesian led Keppal 3-2 at halftime; the Cosmos promptly rallied through Briony Singh, Jessalie McHove, Todd Rasmus, and Johan Idmar, for an impressive 3-5 win on the road. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

Matchday Fifteen

When this schedule was randomized and we saw Bassabook-Trink as one of the games to watch for the halfway point and finale, most spectators' first thought was "ooh, touchy harmonic fanbases, hopefully they don't sing anything too explosive," and their second thought was "halfway will be a good time to size up the Old Boys' campaign and see if they can defend their title." Most people did not think that Trink would be pushing for a Champions' League place, with Bassabook outside the Challengers' spots. But here we are.

Perhaps Bassabook are exhausted from the other fronts they have been fighting on. Perhaps, too, Nathaniel Daley is, while a fine tactician, no Brandon Sonnabend when it comes to giving players rest. Say what you will about Sonnabend's paternalism, he knew how to rotate a squad. Daley was content to leave a clearly-outpaced Sarikaya on defense, as Lurie's brace pulled the visitors into second.

Spenson defeated the Bugs handily, while Arlington came out worse in the northeastern derby, Kivrin's goal not enough to make up for Newhouser and Yves Gruenwald's strikes.

Slogda's quest to score more goals than they did in the infamous prior season had a boost by playing at home against a Rovers side that is never defensive-minded at the best of times, and also not going through the best of times. That Alaisti were shut out perhaps bodes poorly.

At halfway, it isn't exactly anyone's league, but ninth-placed Canbix are still closer to leaders Spenson (2.5 point gap) than they are to twelfth-placed FTC United (3).

Matchday Sixteen

Things stay congested at the top, with Idmar's goal seeing Keppal defeat Spenson. Trink catch the latter on points, because something something something Slogda; Arlington do not, because something something something Namiri Forest, Ephesian make forward motion, because...oh all right, we haven't said much about 102d Jr.s. Last season they were the best of the bottom five, who were the same bottom five as the season before that in a different order, so there's something to be said for that as a cluster. Lissa Crain is about the only Zwangzugian from that batch who's notable for on-field reasons, having been called up to the national team in the wake of FC Soessch peacing out and leaving Kurt Uehara stranded. Whether she will last with them is an open question. She is still probably the best player on 102d. That's unfortunate, because Ephesian defeated them four-nil.

Matchday Seventeen

A big day in Fulpog as the Suburbians took on Arlington. The visitors, for a change, actually played like a well-organized defensive side; Laura Petrell's side looked like more than the sum of some rather eccentric parts, and it paid off in a goal from Maryam Cespi. Ogilvie nearly equalized, but a Stefred offside trap kept the hosts scoreless. Arlington go top...ahead of Trebuchet Cham, who were ninth on Matchday Eleven but have quietly been climbing through the ranks. Well, as quietly as a side with a literal zebra in midfield can do, she kinda...makes noise. Erek Konigsberg was the Cabbas' only scorer against Twineur. Trink had a shutout going for over an hour, but some quick-thinking substitutions by Rossum brought on Brienne Vandermonde and Junia Mun-Ryde, both of whom scored.

Given how much the top sides are clustering rather than pulling away, it is kind of surprising that the bottom sides continue being beaten up on by everyone. But that's just how it is.

Matchday Eighteen

Arlington beat the Oxen, Slogda scored a goal but still lost to Ephesian, Bassabook shut out a Namiri Forest side who increasingly don't care about anything anymore, Spenson beat 102d, and, well...

(Eileen Naphalt 15, Lolicia 19, Clyde Crystal-Sap 32 and 77, Kirsten Brennard 51 and 70, Konigsberg 90+2; Niels Jin-Kuang 45+1, Drys-Weller 62, Quincy Dulk-Fough 80)

Trebuchet Cham seven, Rovers United three. Onward.

Matchday Nineteen

A hungover Cham (metaphorically, not literally, that'd be illegal) were shut out by Keppal, and Idmar's goal was enough to reshuffle the leaderboard. Bassabook and Spenson, both coming off easy shutout wins, were tense and underperforming during the first half, with several offside chances and misplays. Halftime must have helped, whatever Daley said, because both teams were much crisper in a taut second half. Blum evaded Canterbury for the only goal, pulling Bassabook to second; they trail Arlington, who blanked Twineur in another of the displays that almost make them look like a reasonable defensive side; Kowalski in particular looked mature and polished on defense.

Namiri Forest, who are drastically underachieving, hosted Excelsior Slogda, who are rubbish as expected. To the surprise of several, the game featured a flurry of refereeing, with Arokiaraj and Ignacio Borjon being sent off for accumulated yellows. To the surprise of absolutely no one whatsoever, there were no goals.

Matchday Twenty

Arlington continued their solidity, with Fahrenthold grounded, Stefred's mind on the game, and they scored their own kind of hat trick against Keppal. (An "Arlington hat trick" is when you have three forwards and they each score, it's funny because they aren't actually attacking-minded so they really shouldn't have three forwards, but it works.)

Spenson took an early lead via Kukiseso, who was subbed off, and the midfield did not control possession well without him and Vindman scored early in the second half to tie the game, which means Slogda take a half-point from the contenders, but no one cared because--

(Brennard 4, Naphalt 20, Konigsberg 39 and 78, Lolicia 51; Lowe 32, Zonde 67)

Cham 5, Trink 2, in the sort-of-but-not-really derby of the German speakers. But the thing is, is that--

(McCollins 20, Noile-Murne 21, Blum 27 and 75, Roosevelt-Cun 30 and 60; Henderson 8 and 41, Thirayut Akkatam 12, Rhys Ford-Tropp 18, Dennis Cameron 32)

Bassabook Old Boys six, FTC United five. Come on guys, seriously?

Matchday Twenty-One

All credit to FTC United, who having mustered up five goals in a losing effort their previous week, did not lose heart but instead...turned around and scored five more goals, this time winning comprehensively, but it was against Slogda so people wrote it off. Oh well.

An ebullient Cham were quashed by Arlington, with a Chandra brace surrounding a Cespi header. Bassabook leaped out to an early lead, via Blum, against Twineur, and then tried to park the bus. They're not very good at it, mind you, and Twineur got very annoyed at the blatant time-wasting which led to a series of fouls, culminating in Meaghan Harris senselessly chopping down Amanda Rickey. McCollins converted the penalty, and Bassabook emerge 2-0 winners.

Matchday Twenty-Two

By a single goal, Bassabook top the table again. But before we can talk about them, we have to make them annoyed by praising the fine defense of 102d. Crain was solid, Fedya Troy-Vee had a good day in goal, and against the run of play, midfielder Janie McElsen got the best of a jumpy Fahrenthold to give them the win over Arlington.

So a two-goal win would give Bassabook the lead. And a two-goal lead was what they duly obtained, via Sarikaya and Urquhart. The Cosmos came surging back, however, with Idmar scoring two and assisting McHove. It took a long sequence of passes up through the midfield, culminating in a nice Blum finish, to regain the Old Boys' momentum; once they had it, however, a Roosevelt-Cun header quickly followed, and Urquhart's second was a deserving finish.

With Arlington and Bassabook tied, they will meet, uh, next week in Arlington, the first leg having been decided by some Stefred absurdities.

Matchday Twenty-Three

The race for the Challengers' cool-looking-thing remains very tight--Spenson pounded the Rovers, Cham routinely beat 102d, Canbix couldn't beat uninspiring Twineur, and Trink were probably more disappointed to lose to Namiri Forest, although on paper that shouldn't have been a surprising result at the beginning of the season. But focus was rightfully in Arlington.

And...the hosts jumped off to a decisive lead in the first quarter-hour. Chandra scored in the sixth minute, Twoni six minutes later, and Cespi off the restart. Noile-Murne would muster a goal later in the first half, but Kivrin restored the three-goal lead shortly after halftime. After a couple offside attempts, Blum finally scored in minute 78. All the same, the local defense was in control, and the slightly inevitable Stefred goal was more of an exclamation point than a decisive change.

Matchday Twenty-Four

Both Arlington and Bassabook struggled more than they should have, but both came away with a full point. For Arlington, it was an Osnes tap-in after an hour of futile throw-ins in Slogda. For Bassabook, it was hosting 102d that brought out lots of noise in the stands, and apparently, lots of clumsy play on the play. Neither Izzy Raub and Kaja Plin-Horge's goals for the visitors were highlight-reel stuff, but the hosts overcame them via Roosevelt-Cun, Theodore Placket, and Blum.

(Scribbled in the margins in the same font from Matchday Nine: Rossum's Canbix defeated Keppal behind goals from Ione Friede and Gambor. Idmar had the only goal for the visitors.)

Matchday Twenty-Five

The bottom five continue to be the bottom five, and the top eleven continue to be closely-packed. Arlington were held to a scoreless draw by Canbix, allowing Bassabook to gain ground by defeating Cham; Brennard's goal was the only bright spot for the visitors, as Placket, Urquhart, and an aging but still threatening Lloyd Bowie all scored. Cham are fourth, with Canbix trailing them on GD. Spenson are third, having put aside Namiri Independent 4-2. Which is a lot of goals for two alleged neutrals, but randomness is a thing.

Matchday Twenty-Six

Fans in Alden, outside Hope City, were treated to an interesting goalkeeping display, as "better lucky than good" Dwayne Cavendish took on "being Zwangzugian means I'm ~quirky~ and fluky" Celeste Fahrenthold. After a bunch of weird bounces and erratic sprints, it would be Arlington who came out on top, with Twoni's the only goal.

Fans in Zwischen were...not treated to a quality goalkeeping display, because, well, Ephesian, and the presence of Itzhak Canterbury between the visiting sticks did not aid Spenson. They conceded three before Kukiseso's halftime pep talk proved a little stronger than Kirk McDonagh's; Valdez and Ogilvie scored in the second half, but Spenson couldn't quite secure the draw.

Spenson are now tied with Cham and Canbix for the Challengers' corridor; the Cabbas and Muses had no trouble against 102d and Namiri Forest, respectively. Bassabook also should have had no trouble after making the relatively short trip to Slogda District, but to my editor's joy, I am not going to be able to fall back on the usual cliches here. Because in absolute defiance of their finishes last season, Slogda defeated Bassabook. Two-nil. Caleb Vindman and Trent Melchior scored. And yes, that means they did outscore last season.

It is only their first win of this season, mind you, which means they need one win, or two draws, to pass Arlington's pre-hiatus misery for the worst points total. They have to face Cham, Canbix, Esper, and the Rovers still--the last at least should be beatable...

Matchday Twenty-Seven

Bassabook bounce back, boisterous boy Blum boldly bulging bag and, uh, defeating Canbix one-nil in the "what did you just call us rargharaghrhg" rivalry game. It's not the best rivalry in the league, but it's something.

Arlington maintain their lead, however; having stumbled against the Rovers in the first leg, they easily swept them aside at home. At least Tim Marley probably enjoyed the baseball history in the city. (Yes, they're archivist nerds about that too.)

Matchday Twenty-Eight

A lovely Sayle-Bren goal was enough for Sporting Esper to defeat Bassabook; Esper are still half a point behind Cham and Canbix for the fourth and fifth Challengers chalice spots, and as importantly, Bassabook slip behind Spenson on GD for second. An Ogilvie brace overcame Crystal-Sap's goal, and Spenson were probably pushing for more to widen the GD lead given how tight everything is, but Cham were equally resilient for much the same reason.

Arlington did their job, the "Arlington hat trick" combo scoring three to Lowe and Trink's one. Canbix' bid for higher goal differential was not aided by a header from Slogda's Poulson, but Slogda are still looking for that fifth point. Or, well, I guess the tenth half-point?

Matchday Twenty-Nine

The title race ended not with a bang, but with a train parked in front of the Arlington goal; Namiri Independent, who are content to do better than their disappointing neighbors, hoofed it about (not literally, Suhail Gallop-Brother probably retired by now) for ninety minutes, plus three, during which Stefred managed to do nothing of consequence, not even insult the Collective for...existing. Arlington build on the Taça das Confederações with a second league championship. Technically a third, if you count the MUFN. Which obviously they do. Most of them.

Someone scored five goals, and it wasn't Bassabook, who got to host the Rovers, or Esper, who got to visit Slogda, or Ephesian, who are Ephesian, or Trink, who like to attack a lot. It was, however, Trink's opponents, who took advantage of the hosts' defensive frailty. This was none other than Namiri Forest, who were as stunned as everyone else. Gurshasp scored a hat trick, Ghatak scored, and even Vizirani got on the scoreboard. They're still annoyed about this season, but some people just like being annoyed.

Matchday Thirty

Everyone was tired and nobody scored more than one goal. Namiri Forest (natch) and Trink (hosting a disappointed Bassabook) played host to scoreless draws. Spenson fell behind to Jonathan Broad-Wentworth and Twineur, but with the second Challengers' League place on the line, Ogilvie equalized, and the Suburbians hang onto second as MUFN clubs go 1-2. Esper and Canbix were dueling for seeding; Mears had the only goal, which was enough for the Robins to be fourth outright.

Ford-Tropp had the only goal as the Oxen defeated the Cabbas; Sophie Munshi had the only goal as Namiri Independent defeated 102d, and Arlington took a lazy victory lap across the northeast, with Rigney-Jones' goal giving Ephesian the win.

Slogda held the Rovers to a draw for over an hour, and some fans started looking up how dire Arlington's GD was the record-setting season (it was -39, if you must know). Before they could worry about how Alaisti's -43 would look in comparison, however, it fell to -44 behind a goal from unlikely goalscoring threat, but loyal vice-captain and leader, Tessie Murdans. Womp womp.

As for the bitter central rivals, Canbix and Keppal, they both finished with 18.5 points and +7 goals of difference. The second tiebreaker is head-to-head, which broke in Canbix' favor, so they will be the last team in the challengers' challenge thing. Now all I need to do is go back and make sure I mentioned those results in an unobtrusive way...

Cereal Cup

First Round

Bassabook Old Boys 8–4 Ephesian FC
Namiri Forest 0–0 Eintracht Trink
Arlington City 2–0 Namiri Independent
Spenson Suburbia 0–1 102d Jr.s
Keppal Cosmos 0–3 FTC United
Sporting Esper 3–0 Twineur Bugs
Trebuchet Cham 2–0 Rovers United
Canbix Muses 0–0 Excelsior Slogda

"We," said Ephesian, "are gonna be awesome and symmetric like the old national team."

"They decided against that in the end," people said.

"Sssssh," said Ephesian.

"Aren't you going to have, like, problems and stuff?"

"Sssssh."

"Yeah, but what if--"

"WE GOT THIS"

(Gordon Blum 15 and 42 and 84, Jonah McCollins 24, Mallie Roosevelt-Cun 26 and 51, Lloyd Bowie 48, Giovanni Urquhart 52; Samuel Rigney-Jones 35, Alma Newhouser 50, Jaclyn Burkhart 53, Maia Cumple-Sead 73)

Second Round

Bassabook Old Boys 1–1 Sporting Esper
FTC United 0–1 Arlington City
102d Jr.s 2–2 Trebuchet Cham
Namiri Forest 3–1 Canbix Muses
Eintracht Trink 3–0 Excelsior Slogda
Namiri Independent 2–2 Spenson Suburbia
Rovers United 2–3 Keppal Cosmos
Twineur Bugs 1–2 Ephesian FC

Arlington go two for two after defeating the Oxen behind a Vince Chandra goal. A tired Bassabook are held to a draw, with Jake McWaive registering a goal for Sporting Esper, and Amos Noile-Murne equalizing for the hosts. Ephesian, to their credit, bounce back with a Rigney-Jones brace. Namiri Forest score three (!) goals against Canbix, which...I don't think they so much chose to fight on the cup front as much as settled for it.

Third Round

Arlington City 2–1 Bassabook Old Boys
Sporting Esper 4–1 Eintracht Trink
Namiri Forest 4–1 Trebuchet Cham
102d Jr.s 3–2 FTC United
Ephesian FC 3–0 Keppal Cosmos
Spenson Suburbia 0–1 Canbix Muses
Excelsior Slogda 1–0 Namiri Independent
Rovers United 4–3 Twineur Bugs

Arlington are undeterred by fighting on two fronts, and duly defeat Bassabook once again, Chandra and Simon Osnes providing the goals with the indefatigable Blum scoring for the visitors. Forest improve on their offensive showing, with lone striker Jahan Gurshasp scoring a hat trick and Chevanthi Arokiaraj heading in a corner.

Fourth Round

Arlington City 1–1 Sporting Esper
102d Jr.s 1–1 Namiri Forest
Ephesian FC 1–1 Eintracht Trink
Trebuchet Cham 3–6 Bassabook Old Boys
Canbix Muses 2–1 FTC United
Excelsior Slogda 1–0 Rovers United
Keppal Cosmos 1–1 Spenson Suburbia
Namiri Independent 1–0 Twineur Bugs

Bassabook score six goals and it's not their best offensive showing of the four-game tournament, what a world. Slogda win, thanks to a Caleb Vindman goal, which brings them to two victories in the four-game tournament, which is more than they amassed in the thirty-game league. Arlington do the double, with Maryam Cespi and Marlon Sayle-Bren scoring at the City Athletic Venue. Forest remain undefeated, with a late goal from Vishal Ghatak cancelling out Kaja Plin-Horge's opener, and that's enough for them to qualify to the VCIAPP. It's unclear whether they actually want that, but who knows what Namiri Forest ever want. Except asking Sibal the defender if he's home or still away.

You may have noticed, although let's be real, you probably didn't, that last time around Scholl College advanced over the University of Dauclem despite the score suggesting otherwise. This is due to...um...academic ineligibility on Dauclem's part. Yes. To the disappointment of our Qusmo-based readership, that is the level of analysis and commentary you are going to get on this tournament.

Arlington fans enjoy innovative defensive play, archiving international sports history, and commuting via skyways. They do not enjoy coming up with creative names.

Siovanija & Teusland (STL) Final Site Bid:

IFCF Challengers’ Cup: Franz-Gorz-Stadion (70,000), Stelburg

The newly-completed Franz-Gorz-Stadion in Stelburg is officially announcing its candidacy to host the IFCF Challegers’ Cup Final.

The most modern stadium in Siovanija & Teusland, and officially opening at the beginning of the next season as the new home of FC Teussen Stelburg, the Siovanija & Teusland Football Association believes the stadium is the best candidate to host the Challengers’ Cup Final. It marks a return of the club, and the city of Stelburg, to its roots: the new stadium is built on the site that the original first stadium in the city was built on, right in the downtown core on the bank of the River Drai. Its name, too, recalls one of the most legendary players in Teussen history, Franz Gorz, who captained the club in the late 1880s before fighting and dying in the Great War.

In addition to its roots in civic history, the Franz-Gorz-Stadion looks to the future as a world-class events venue. Seating 70,000 spectators, it is the second-largest stadium in the country, and the largest in the Republikaliga. The arena contains all the amenities you would expect from a world-class stadium, and its superb location in the heart of Stelburg contributes to this feel. There are plenty of first-class restaurants and hotels within walking distance of the stadium, and visitors for the Challengers’ Cup Final would be warmly welcomed to the city.

FC Teussen Stelburg, the City of Stelburg, and the Siovanija & Teusland Football Association invite the IFCF to strongly consider the Franz-Gorz-Stadion bid for the Challengers’ Cup, and invite the world to help celebrate the opening of our new football stadium.

Cutoff for the third cycle of competitions of the International Federation of Club Football (IFCF) will be Sunday, July 12th, 2020, at 23:59 UTC.

This will be the cutoff for the IFCF Champions League (successor to the UICA Champions Cup), the IFCF Challenger's Cup (successor to the UICA Globe Cup), the IFCF Liga B Champions Trophy (successor to the UICA SBCC), the IFCF Rising Stars Cup (successor to the UICA Youth Cup), the IFCF Super Cup (successor of the UICA Super Cup) and the IFCF Cup Winners Cup (continuation of the Cygnus/Cup Winners Cup).

All entries since the last cycle of IFCF competition will be counted, with the latest set if multiple sets of entries were submitted. Allocations will be as listed at the bottom of the last IFCF post. Same principle applies to final site bids for these competitions.

The hosts of each individual competition, of course, will be determined in due time. May the odds be ever in your favor!
