What is Earth X?
A modern-tech, alternate-Earth role play group. As such, we operate in the modern age in terms of the technology available and use real Earth geography for our nations. While we use the Earth and the wider universe around it as our palate, we're a separate entity from the wider NationStates multiverse operating in our own sphere. This means our threads are closed to non-members. What happens outside of Earth X has no bearing inside of Earth X and vice-versa. To find out more, we highly recommend reading the FAQs below.
Who can join?
Anyone who is a member of NationStates. There aren't any requirements outside of having an active nation on NationStates, an interest in alternate-Earth, modern-tech roleplay, and a little bit of creativity.
What types of memberships are there?
Earth X created a tiered membership which comes with different requirements.
- Partial Member
This membership is open to people who want to join our community, but may not have the time to dedicate to a full claim. Partial members may make claims on our map up to 1 million square kilometers in total area or 100 million people, whichever you reach first. There are no posting requirements for Partial Members. - New Member
You've filled in an application and your application has been approved! Congratulations, welcome to the group. New Members may expand beyond their initial claim. New Members are still restricted to a total claim of no more than 2 million square kilometers. Once you've completed an introductory thread for your nation, you will graduate automatically to Full Member status. New Members are required to make at least one (1) in-character post per thirty (30) day period. - Full Member
This membership is open to people who want to make a commitment to the group as a whole. Full Members may claim up to 10 million square kilometers on our map at any one time. Full Members have varying requirements for posting depending on the type of 'power level' you're interested in- Great Power
Great Powers are those nations who've risen to the top in terms of economic, diplomatic, and military power. They are highly important as their reach is global and few can compare to their might. Since Great Powers are really, really important, anyone wishing to be a Great Power must make at least one (1) in-character post in a fourteen (14) day period, - Regional Power
Regional Powers are open to those who want to have importance, but may not wish (or be able to) have a global reach. Regional Powers have a lot of economic, diplomatic, and military power in their region of the globe, but are not global powers and their reach is limited to their general area of the world. People wishing to be a Regional Power must make one (1) in-character post per 21-day period. - Small Power
Your economic, diplomatic, and military power isn't high enough to influence global politics and you may even struggle to exert a lot of influence in your region. You're a small power. Small Powers are required to make one (1) in-character post in a 30-day period.
- Great Power
So what happens if I miss the activity requirement?
Fair is fair. So we'll give you up to 10 addition days to correct it if you're a Small Power, 5 days if you're a Regional Power, and 2 days if you're a Great Power. If the requirement is not met, we reserve the right to remove the claim from our map.
Okay, how do I make a claim on your map?
By filling out the application in the post below. When you first apply to Earth X, you may submit an application for a claim of up to 2 million square kilometers in size. You are not required to claim all 2 million square kilometers. Whatever you ask for in your application will be your initial claim. However, before you make a claim, let's talk about the types of claims you will find on our map:
- Pending Claim
The claim you originally made on our map. This is your Initial Claim. No matter what, this is yours and it can never be contested. You have been approved, but have not completed your introduction thread to a satisfactory level. Anything you claim beyond this (up to 2 million square kilometers as a new member) can be contested. - Completed Claim
The original claim you started with as been approved and you've completed an introductory thread. Now that you've graduated to Full Member, you may have noticed to can add up to 8 million more square kilometers of land. Your original claim (as in the map claim you started with) is your Initial Claim. This is your land as long as you're in our group. Nothing may happen within that Initial Claim without your say so. But, you should be aware of.... - Contested Claim
While you're secure in your initial claim, any additions you make after that can be contested by one or more players. When a claim is Contested, you are required to react. There is no ignore canon when it comes to a contested claim. In a nutshell, you expanded, someone else wanted that land, and now you have to fight them for it. This should be done through an RP thread, but some members have taken to ironing it out OOCly. It may sound complicated and worrisome, but do not fret! As the one who claimed it first, you can set the tone for the RP! Your history will be respected. And if you win, well you've proven yourself on the RP battlefield. Think of it less like someone trying to take your expansion away from you and more like earning your expansion. Any Full Member may contest an expansion. New Members cannot contest expansions. Members are not required to contest claims. It should be noted that any expansion will have a seven (7) day time limit for Contesting. Seven (7) days after approval, the expansion may no longer be contested. - Full Claim
You've applied, been accepted, completed your introductory thread, and survived your contested claim (if you had one). Now you don't have to worry about anything other than that new RP you want to do! - NPC
Sometimes it may be necessary to create a Non-Player Claim. NPCs are claims that no one controls anymore, but have been preserved on our map (in whole or in part) due to a highly important piece of history contained within that effects too many people or causes to many headaches to retcon. It should be noted that no claim will become an NPC easily as we want to keep our map open for those willing to participate.
Can I use my NS Population?
No, we do not use NS stats in Earth X. You would be required to base your Earth X nation's population on the real-life population of the area you claim. For example, if you claim California as your country in Earth X, your population would be the population of California.
Geez, that's a lot!
Maybe, but it was done to give you options. Think of it as a way to get you to think about what you want to claim, how you want to play it, and how much time you want to dedicate to Earth X. There are trade-offs for wanting big, powerful, important claims. There are trade-offs for people who want to expand. There's the way your claim will interact with the world around it. So many ways to create a nation, so much to think about in terms of how to build it. Don't worry if you still need help, we're sitting in our Discord waiting for you.
Are there any rules?
[Main Topic: Earth X Rules]
Of course there are. The overall gist to the rules is "don't be a jerk." We get it, sometimes people have disagreements. Sometimes people might not get along. Sometimes you might not like something someone did in an RP and now you're hopping mad. Before you go off half-cocked, take a breather and talk about it peacefully. You can disagree and still be polite to each other. This also means that if someone does Contest your expansion, don't rage quit or throw a tizzy. It's part of the rules and we're certain that everyone can work it out amicably between themselves. Speaking of Rage Quit! We really don't want to see anyone Rage Quit! an RP because it isn't going their way. Once you're in an RP, if it isn't going your way, don't rage quit. We find it in poor taste. There's ways to work it out peacefully between ourselves, friend! That and that's grounds to have your claim removed from the map (yeah, we know, but still).
Once approved, you will be required to write an introductory thread. This thread has to be completed to a satisfactory level. It doesn't have to be long or flashy, but we do desire to see a proficient level of writing. If you're unsure of your writing or feel you need help, we are most willing to help! Don't ever be afraid to ask. There are no bad writers, just good writers waiting to discover their talent!
It should be noted that while you are not required to be a prolifict writer, we do have a minimum standard which we are looking for in terms of your ability. If your application is denied due to the provided RP examples, you may reapply with examples which better reflect your abilities.
Also, members shouldn't contest an expansion just for the sake of contesting it. That will cause a lot of problems if done, and frankly, ain't nobody got time for that.
You must always have the nation you joined Earth X with active. We don't have a region, so no reason for us to care which region you're in. If your nation should go inactive due to inactivity (CTE), NS Moderator activity, or other methods.... your claim will be null and void after ten (10) days and you will have to reapply.
You may only have one nation in Earth X at a time. No joining with a puppet to skirt this rule. When we find out, you will be banned for up to 12 months from rejoining. Yes, we will find out. Eventually. Probably.
And the official language of Earth X is English as far as our posts go. If you're not fluent in English, that's fine. All posts have to be in English. If you use another language, your post must offer a translation into English.
We also reserve the right to create and implement new rules as necessary.
Discord? Gimme linky, please?!
Certainly! Here you go.
Is this an Earth II Ripoff?
No! In fact it was done with the full knowledge of Earth II's leadership. You may even see some of Earth X's members in Earth II and vice-versa! We're not picky like that.
