Beyond the Stars — Max Calder & Bella Verano

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the continued participation of Kalosia at the WorldVision Song Contest has been called into question. On one hand, there was a continued desire for the nation to continue its participation streak, having never voluntarily withdrew since its debut 60 editions ago. However, the pandemic had cancelled many events and made it harder for Kalosians to participate in any events that were still ongoing. Kalosian ports of entry/exit had also been closed to the general public, making it harder for people to travel.

Fortunately, the Kalosian government reached an argument with the state broadcaster, Radiu-Televižio Kalosia. On the basis of maintaning high morale of the Kalosian people, RTVK will be allowed to continue participating in the WorldVision Song Contest, with limitations. Under the agreement, the Kalosian delegation was to be as small as possible, with only solo acts being sent (duets may be considered on a case-by-case basis) and backing performers to be as few as possible. If possible, delegation members could assume multiple roles, as there is no rule saying that a technical staff member cannot also be a backing singer. In addition, RTVK is required to request special provisions from the host organizer (in this case the Kishraeli organizing team) to allow social distancing to be enforced, and delegation members were required to self-isolate for 14 days upon arriving in the host country, and upon returning from the host country.

For the 82nd WorldVision Song Contest, RTVK again decided to select an experienced artist to represent the country at the contest. Masimo Kalderon, known by his stage name Max Calder, had represented the nation at the 61st WorldVision Song Contest with the song "On My Way", where he came 7th. The 27-year old who previously worked as a personal trainer rose to fame after his first single, The High in Your Eyes, became a big summer hit in 2017. It was released on his online video channel after he had reached 10 thousand subscribers — he had previously posted covers of songs including Kalosia's WV43 entry "Where are You Now?"

This time, however, he is not alone. Joining him on stage will be his current girlfriend Isabelë Verano, using the stage name Bella Verano. Like Max, Bella is a video content creator and also rose to fame in her own right performing covers of songs. The two met in late 2018 as part of a collaboration project. The two currently share an apartment and thus WorldVision preparations could occur much more easily.

The song they have prepared was co-written by both of them. Called "Beyond the Stars", it has a rather intergalactic theme to it. Their planned staging for the Tiferet performance has been equally astral; keep reading.

To respect the provisions set in light of the pandemic, the Kalosian delegation departed to Ertzei Kishim on May 16th, 2020 — a whole three weeks ahead of the final. Upon arrival in Tiferet, they entered self-quarantine in their hotel rooms, as required by the Kishraeli authorities, and also following travel guidelines by the Kalosian Ministry of Health.
Throughout the journey, there was not much fanfare. Because they spent much of their time in medical isolation, they were able to receive minimal interaction with other people. Members of the press who came to document the arrival of WV82 entrants into the country were able to keep their distance thanks to the airport security staff, who were instructed to not allow unauthorized persons near the Kalosian delegation.

On May 30th, the Kalosian delegation reached the end of their quarantine period and were now allowed to partake in activities building up to the WorldVision Song Contest. Interaction was still limited and the events they attended were limited to only official events and rehearsals.

For the big night, Max and Bella were wearing all white outfits. Max having a suit, and Bella putting on a chic dress. At the beginning of the show, during the Parade of Nations, Max and Bella walked in wearing masks, while on the other end of the stage were the entrants from Placely Placington, E Oe.

E Oe later went on to perform 21st, and Max and Bella came on right afterwards. As the song began, a cloud of white smoke blanketed the stage. A camera approached Max who was slowly walking down the ramp, as he began to sing. His initial vocals were rather shaky, perhaps due to the initial nervousness that many singers undergo in the opening lines of their songs, but perhaps it could also be interpreted to reflect the ascent of darkness into the heavens that he was singing about, reflecting the fearful shivers that the everyday person experiences when a grim uncertainty blankets the hopeful optimism of their hearts, although quickly in the second line Max reassures the second person (can be seen as either Bella or the viewer) that all is not lost.

Note: Max sings in blue, Bella sings in red, and both together in black.
Nighttime sets as darkness fills the sky
But that doesn’t mean that we can’t fly
For you and I

The smoke clears, and the camera switches to an angle pointed towards the stage floor. There was a projection of Max who continued walking slowly as he sang, and then in the second line of the next part the camera looks upwards to reveal that it was in front of the ramp on the other end of the stage, and that Bella was walking down it. The crowd cheers a bit, enthusiastic about her arrival into the performance, and she too joins along and harmonizes with Max as they sing the final two lines of the next part.
Launch off from the world inside your mind
Is it worth leaving all behind?
What will we find?

In the first line of the next part, the camera switches to a close up of Max, and then for the second line the camera switches dramatically to a close up of Bella. Both of them looked rather... wistful, as if this separation (them being on opposite sides of the stage) deepened their longing for each other. But at the same time, the glisten in Bella's eyes as she supported the second line below also showed a sense of optimism. In a world of uncertainty and fear, isn't love the answer? Surely it was a quality that the pair wished to cherish and bring with them long into the future.
This is love, it’s human nature
We will bring it to the future

At this point they've walked about 20% the length of the stage from their respective starting points. A spideycam takes a wideshot surrounding the whole stage. You can see the starry floor projections, though Max and Bella were each standing on glowing white circles, almost like suns, in addition to spotlights on them allowing them to be visible and well-lit. In regards to their singing, things were at full speed, as the two gave the endearing, optimistic chorus the vocally powerful charge it deserved. The same could be said for their body language — Bella was bowing slightly, elbows bent inwards into her body, while Max showed more openness, with an arm extended "beyond the stars". In the third line of the next part, the two extended a hand towards each other, making it clear that their second persons are each other, and that this love song, as they see it, relates to how they feel about each other.
Baby, we’ll go beyond the stars
Show the universe who we are
Oh, loving you is what dreams are made of

Something you could also see is the lights surrounding the stage flashing to the beat, as they also 'move', circling around the stage to add a bit of movement to the performance. Max and Bella's gestures really added a lot of meaning to the song; for example when they both said the phrase "when you're with me", they withdrew their right hands towards themselves, placing their fists upon their respective chests, before quickly extending both of their arms like a pair of wings about to launch into the heavens, and then in the last line one of their respective arms gestures towards the infinite sky, as if pondering with curiosity what lays beyond that infinity.
If the skies are storming tonight
When you’re with me, we can take flight
To infinity and beyond

Now the camera focused on Max briefly as he continued to make his way towards the center of the stage. At this point, he sounded much more confident, but indeed it reflected the flow of the song. His look is much more reassuring, giving the viewer a sense of comfort and security, much more so Bella.
Even when these nights are filled with fear
I’m feeling alright cause you are here
Right by my side

Now Bella, too, was seen making her way to the center of the stage, as the camera focused on her. The crowd cheered, appreciative that Bella finally gets her own solo part. Enamored, Bella smiles as she sings, and the warmth of her voice as she does so really touches upon the lyrics, which because of this shows that Bella is understanding and supportive of what Max is trying to convey, and in turn provides her own reassurance, strengthening this bond between the two of them. As she sings the last line of the next part, she extends her hand towards the camera in front of her, and then towards the end of the last line withdraws it back towards her heart.
Some days our realities collide
Sometimes the planets don’t align
But still you’re my guide

The two keep walking towards the center, gravitating towards each other. A spideycam went around them doing a wide shot, displaying the Kishraeli star-spangled stage in all its full glory and showing how small the two looked in the vastness of the expanse. It was hard to tell, from so far away, what their facial expressions looked like or what was going through their minds, but from their hand gestures it was clear that they were really into it at that moment, giving their all into this performance.
Baby, we’ll go beyond the stars
Show the universe who we are
Oh, loving you is what dreams are made of

A closer camera shot gets us a better view of our lovers... not star-crossed, but rather ready to cross the stars. Halfway through this next part, they finally get to the center and meet each other. They take each other's hands, locking fingers while gazing deeply into their partner's eyes.
If the skies are storming tonight
When you’re with me, we can take flight
To infinity and beyond

The music seems to die down briefly as the pair have their moment. As a hopeful Bella softly sings this next part, the camera shows a close up shot of them but... it looks kinda shaky? Why would the camera struggle to stay focused on our singers, who appear to be staying still? And why is the crowd cheering so loudly?
This is love, it’s human nature
We will bring it to the future

A change of camera shot answers our questions — they are flying! A wider shot from a camera rotating around the stage reveals to us that Max and Bella are being hoisted into the air, with the audience, full of awe, cheering after them. The line "when you're with me, we can take flight" has truly been fulfilled now. The smoke machines are deployed again, blanketing the stage in a layer of mist. In the last line of the next part, the camera angle is a close up of the two, and in the last word, Max holds out a note that pierces through the sudden silence of the backing track, prompting cheers from the crowd.
Don’t be scared of what will follow
We will build a new tomorrow

A fade to black marks the transition to another wide shot camera angle, though this time holograms were utilized. The stage projections now projected onto the smoke, making it a bit blurry compared to had it been projecting straight towards the surface of the stage, but millions of tiny stars and whatnot now filled the air — these are the holographic visuals that added magic to the performance. Max and Bella appeared to be rejoicing at being united after being separated, having begun the song on opposite ends of the vast stage. And now they were truly going beyond the stars, making their way towards infinity and beyond. For the next parts, the camera mostly alternates between different angles showing them continue to be suspended in midair, vocally giving their all, and being surrounded by the projected astral elements.
Baby, we’ll go beyond the stars
Show the universe who we are
Oh, loving you is what dreams are made of

If the skies are storming tonight
When you’re with me, we can take flight
To infinity and beyond

Baby, we’ll go beyond the stars
Show the universe who we are
Oh, loving you is what dreams are made of

If the skies are storming tonight
When you’re with me, we can take flight
To infinity and beyond

As the song starts to come to its end, the two are gradually lowered. Max and Bella continue to be seen from wide shot angles. This final part, despite being a lyrical repetition of the chorus, has a different melody to the rest of the song.
Baby, we’ll go beyond the stars
Show the universe who we are
Oh, loving you is
What dreams are made of

As their feet get closer to touching the surface of the stage, the mist subsides and the starry holograms, now out of sight, fade away. Eventually Max and Bella finally reach the ground again at the exact moment their song ends.
If the skies are storming tonight
When you’re with me, we can take flight
And we will go beyond the stars

As that happens, on the stage projections below them, a few words rapidly appear from their feet, facing the four edges of the stage and being readable by audience members. These words are thank you phrases in the languages of many of the participating countries, with the biggest phrases being the English "Thank you", as well as their Kalosian and Kishraeli Hebrew counterparts. All these phrases are caught by the camera, which has been showing wide shots of the stage. The crowd, despite the lack of Kalosians, erupts into a cheer, and as the lights come back on to illuminate the venue, Max and Bella smile and wave towards members of the audience. The camera switches to a medium shot of them before moving on to display audience reactions. Now that the song was over, it was time to hear the Axuvian entry.

Ahhh yeah
Ahh yeah

Alexander stood on the stage ramp and walked down it slowly, he posed as he ended his part and backed away from the camera that was recording him and it switched cameras to the next member

[Alexander]
I cant let go cause you’re on my mind everyday, everyday

Walked off the other ramp onto the stage platform as the other members were on the center stage and the camera followed him from his front and he pushed the camera away and both members on the side runways started to run to the center stage.

[Valentin]
You are so special, girl the whole
World knows your name, know your name

As the other members reached the center stage they all started to sing together and then as they reached the chorus they jumped and pumped their fists in the air,
and light sticks that were provided to the audience were white and they would flash to the beat.

[Drakka]
Ayo, ayo!
Anything for you
Baby don’t you worry further

[Arkady]
Ayo, ayo!
Come with me far away
Lets just take it slow

All of the band except Seo-Jun dipped to the floor, waiting to come back up after Seo-Jun would finish his lyrics and a camera would be in front of Seo-Jun and he pointed to it.

[Seo-Jun] Yo, 난 당신에게 세상을 제공하기 위해 무엇이든 할 것입니다, 당신은 나의 # 1입니다
Yo, i will do anything for you give you the world, you're my #1 (let's get it)

After Seo-Jun finished his line, the camera would switch to all of them and they would all spring up from the ground and they would all start to dance and be spread out on the stage.

[All]
And baby you are mine, Oh
And i’d do anything for you, oh oh oh, eyo!
And I will never stop, no
All the love I have is for you, oh oh oh eyo!

Toni would walk forward and the camera would follow him as he sang his part of the song

[Toni]
I’ll never break apart, I’ll always hold your hand
You shine bright like all the stars

[All]
I won’t ever stop, no
Showing my love to only you, oh oh oh, for you

[Toni]
From my heart...

Smoke would start to fill the stage and be strictly at their feet.

[Alexander]
Baby it’s our time, there’s no looking back
Let’s run away, let’s run away

Dancers would fill the outskirts of the stage and they would start to dance to the beat.

[Valentin]
And you shine bright, like the sun does
On a sunny day, a sunny day

[Drakka]
Ayo, ayo!
your heart sings to me
Like my favorite song

[Arkady]
Ayo, ayo!
no one can come between us
You’re the only one that matters

[All]
And baby you are mine, Oh
And i’d do anything for you, oh oh oh, eyo oh oh
And I will never stop, no
All the love I have is for you, oh oh oh eyo oh

[Toni]
I’ll never break apart, I’ll always hold your hand
You shine bright like all the stars

[All]
I will never stop, no
Showing my love to only you, oh oh oh, for you!

[Toni]
From my heart..

They would form a circle on the stage to give symbolization to their group logo and the camera view would go around the circle as the next lines were sang.

[Seo-Jun/Arkady] You give me all the love and baby
[Seo-Jun/Arkady] And I want to capture your heart, so baby wheres the key?

[Toni/Drakka] Just know I’d give you my all
[Toni/Drakka] And all my love for you will never stop

They all got out of circle formation and started to dance and fireworks would fly above them and pop.

[All]
And baby you are mine, Oh
And i’d do anything for you, oh oh oh, eyo oh oh
And I will never stop, no
All the love I have is for you, oh oh oh eyo oh

[Toni]
I’ll never break apart, I’ll always hold your hand
You shine bright like all the stars

[All]
I won’t ever stop, no
Showing my love to only you, oh oh oh, for you!

[Toni]
From my heart...

Ahh, yeah!

At the end they would all hold hands and bow to each side of the stadium as more fireworks would ring out in the stadium, they would walk off holding each other and the band logo would be shown on the stage

As is an almost annual tradition, TRT unfortunately did not have enough funding for Worldvision again. Thus they had to put together an entry last minute. This entry consists of simply Laura in a handsome black and white suit playing the piano, with a circle of candles floating around her. Scenes from romantic movies - of couples falling in love, breaking up, getting married - would play around her, with the clips matching the emotions of the song. It would be an extremely simple performance.

I never thought this day would come
I stand outside matrimonial world
This sensual work
As I wait for your loving hand
Now this part is over
Now starts our new chapter together

I see you walking down the aisle all set
I see you wearing all your wedding best
I know that our chapter has now just begun
I know that our beautiful best is to come yet

I can’t stop smiling as the organ plays and goes
I can’t stop praying that this moment will last forever more

And all the things I could say,
What do I say?
And all the thoughts you could think,
What do you think?
And all the futures that lie ahead of us,
What do we choose?

Oh my love, as long it’s with you
As long I’m with you

Give me your soft and tender hands
Show me your loving smile
Tell me the quiet words “I do”
Feel the burning love I have for you

(Imagine the places we will go yet
Imagine the memories we will share yet
Imagine the words we will say yet
Imagine the joy we will have yet )

I can’t stop crying as the tears hit the floor
I can’t stop thinking of what we will have and more

And all the words that you’ve ever said
And they rush to my head
And all the things that we’ve done
And that we will do
All the things that have happened yet
All the things that happen now yet
All the things that haven’t happened yet
Only forever us

For where you go, I shall go
To spend eternity with you forever more

This year, TRT decided to go really simple. On stage, Massey Massie alongisde the robotic arms/backing musicians from the last contest would stand on a platform all facing outwards to the audience. Underneath the platform would be a truly gigantic mound of speakers, with various light strips radiating outwards from the platform. The performance would mostly consist of the camera encircling the performers as they would perform the short but sweet lovesong. Notably, various pyrotechnics and smoke effects would shoot out at random from the bends of the stage, always in tune with the song of course. All of the performers would be dressed in simple formal wear- nothing too fancy, but appropriate for the occasion. A light show featuring lasers and the LED screen below the performers would be going on during the song; yellow and other light-colored lasers would show out over the audience as clips from old romantic movies and TV shows would play underneath them.

Handsome dreams

Make me come sing

Make me dream of you

Stay like this

Let me come to you

Show me all your favorite things

I’ll show you all mine too

Close your eyes

I’ll be there with you

Hold onto our highest dreams

Help them come true

Stuck in this

I’ll come undone with you

Fall apart my beating heart

All that is there is you

Once in love

I’ll always think of you

A shower of sparks would emerge from the rafters, circling around the performers. Various pinwheels and roman candles would go off around them, as sparks and fire would shoot out around the arena. In rhythm with the drumbeats of the song, sparks and fire would shot out from the light strips along the arena floor, culminating in an explosive finale as smoke, embers, and sparks would explode from the strips. The various lasers around the arena would go haywire too, as the screen within the floor of the arena would go crazy showing sped up clips of the performance. The whole arena would go black as the last guitar note would ring out and a quick fan of confetti would sweep over the arena, with the performers leaving the stage to great applause.

I Need You by 211

Lights would flash all over the stadium as the intro played.

It feels like it’s been forever since
I’ve last seen you
Theres been many lonely nights
Going through life everyday
Thank you to all the good times we’ve hadI need you (I need you)

Dancers would be on the main stage and on the sides of the outskirts of the stage and they would be motionless and the lighting would be blue and and they would be on platforms and be lifted down onto the stage.

Just come through (Just come through)
Ohh ohhh ohh
Ohh ohhh ohh
Ohh ohhh ohh
I need you, Why cant you pull through

As the duo sang, the platform they were on had different lifts and they lifted up

Ohh ohhh ohh
Ohh ohhh ohh
Ohh ohhh ohh
I need you, Why cant you pull

It seems like it’s been too long
Been counting so endlessly
Still trying to pull through strong
Somebody please come and help me
Feel like I’ll just be running away
Baby things just made me unhappy
Why cant you listen when I say
I need you, Why cant you pull

The lifts that they were on lowered and dancers would rush over to them and perform choreography with them.

Feels like, I’ve never really got to know you
How can I just trust you
After all the things that we’ve been through
When you pull through
Baby send me to another galaxy
All the way, the things you do, make you cool
I need you, Why cant you come through

I-need-you Ohhh ohhh ohh
I-need-you ohhh ohhh ohh
I-need-you ohhh ohhh ohh
I need you, Why can’t you come through
I-need-you ohh ohh ohh
I-need-you Ahh ahh ahh
I-need-you Ahh ahh ahh
( Oooh ooh)

I need you, why cant you come

Dancers would move on the visuals on the stage as if they were stuck in one spot to give an illusion.

Image

Why can’t we get a-long (D-don’t)
Don’t show no love if you not ready
I’ve just got to stay strong
Missing the days youd be with me
I just don’t wanna move on
Do you even remember you were with me
Dont know what I’d do without you
I need you, why cant you

Feels like, I’ve never really got to know you
How can I just trust you
After all the things that we’ve been through
When you pull through
Baby send me to another galaxy
All the way, the things you do, make you cool
I need you, Why cant you come through

I-need-you Ohhh ohhh ohh
I-need-you ohhh ohhh ohh
I-need-you ohhh ohhh ohh
I need you, Why can’t you come through
I-need-you ohh ohh ohh
I-need-you Ohh ohh ohh
I-need-you Ohh ohh ohh
I-need-you

Fall in love everytime I think of you
I wish you could just come through
Just feel like you have forgotten about me (Why cant you come through)
Fall in love everytime I think of you
I wish you could just come through
You are the only one that I see

I-need-you

The lights would turn off and the duo would stand back to back posing as a spotlight flashed on them.

SONG 28: NEKONI
Useless Games by Café Bleu
Based on One Of THOSE Nights (Demo Version) by The Cab

2nd, eh? Although it's not the first time that Nekoni has graced the podium of the WorldVision before (and that time they won the whole thing), to host the contest and come second in their own backyard against some intensly strong opposition felt much, much more cathartic. Much like Les Dahlias Noires before him, Alex Ford pulled a star-making performance in Marina Point, and as a result, he was now a made man in the music industry. I'm Alive immediately got to Number 1, stayed for four weeks, and is already pencilled in a cert for Record of the Year shortlists. His next single, Painkiller, went to number 2, and the album of the same name repeated the feat. All of a sudden, the contest feels like a springboard for talent again.

However, said springboard needed a contest out to check for rust, as it were. The costs of running the contest in the country were a whole lot higher than even Nekoni's first foray with the giant screen and epic stadium size, and as a result, the finances could only stretch so far, especially for a publically owned broadcaster that gets put under fire for overexpenditure at the best of times. As a result, Nekoni opted out of WV81, taking the cheaper option of broadcasting it instead, with a promise to return in the next contest.

Dawn came to 82, and in a mirror of Nekoni's last contest, Ertzei Kishim were to be hosting it for their second time, and they had won the right through an imaginary ballot of one. Additionally, the first time the contest reached the shores of what was once Kishrael, WorldVision 26, was NTR's debut in the contest itself. Truly, this contest is a time for the nation to look back at just how far they had come, from a minnow nation that graced the bottom five of the scoreboard with constant regularity, all the way to one of the upper-midcarders, no strangers to the top ten, but capable of much brighter things should they get very, very lucky.

Once again, NTR's selection was internal, and in an ideal world, that should have been the end of the discussion until the day of the big reveal. However, that day came, and whilst the band name was revealed, there was no song at all...or rather, two combatting halves. You see, the entrant in question, the young and popular rock band Café Bleu, had songwriting differences as to how the entry's chorus should have been constructed, with one side arguing for a more 'dramatic' side that would have provided better opportunities for staging, and the other calling for a less-ostentatious chorus that felt truer to the band's rock roots. When the band couldn't decide, NTR Radio stepped in, and allowed the people of Nekoni to, for technically the first time, effectively vote for their entry. It was a close ballot, but in the end, a slight advantage of 52% to 48% meant that the former version prevailed, and the band members on the latter side swallowed their pride and let democracy take this one.

So, who exactly are Café Bleu? They are, as you'd expect from the style of rock, one of the youngest artists that has taken to the stage for the nation, with the foursome averaging just 19 years of age (even though the drummer looks like he's made of beef, he's only 22). Despite being popular for the last couple of years in the alternative rock and pop-punk scenes, nobody knows much about them, even their actual names. This was intentional: as their first singles took flight whilst some of them were still in school, the parents of the band, worried about the dangers of the more seedy parts of a niche genre fandom, unilaterally agreed that if they were to continue as a band, it would be done with no names being given. Despite them all being adults now, nothing has changed. Perhaps they like the anonymity. Maybe a success at WorldVision would be the grand platform to remove the mask...

Image
(From left: Bassist | Rhythm Guitar | Vocals / Lead Guitar | Drums)

The intro begins with the arena completely dark as the opening chords are played. Upon the first drum hit, the lights burst on. When they do, we see the lead singer in the center, on a small circular red platform lying down on his side, the stage flooring appearing like a crushed red velvet. The platform is anchored at all angles by what appears to be black elastic ropes, making almost a spiderweb of cords, appearing to keep him attached to the platform. As the verse starts, the platform slowly rotates, with each rope coming into contact with raised notches in the platform rim, further extending the complexity of the web.

You've got a smile on you that I ain't seen before
Got me tied on a string wrapped tight around my throat
Oh please, give me release
From the chains I'm bound in
(You take that back, you take that back)

As the verse continues, the wires around him look more and more impenetrable, to the point that we almost can't see his body through them. However, through the mesh, there's a small glint of something metallic. Whilst in one hand, our prisoner has the microphone, in his other, he has a knife, pointed outwards for his safety, of course. He begins hacking at the ropes that are binding him.

I feel so stifled, I'm trapped in your tourniquet
It ain't the first time, and now we're back here again
And I'd be, obediently
On my hands and my knees
(You take that back, you take that back)

As the bridge comes, in one swift movement, he finishes slicing through the cables that were once enveloping him (one presumes that they were weak 'stunt' cables that would have detached from their tethers if they were to have undergone any more stress anyway). As he sings, he begins to escape from his mesh prison as his guitarists join him, bass one side, rhythm other. The drummer, as he obviously can't move, is stuck at the top of the ramp at the west side of the stage. We'll come back to him later, don't feel sorry for him just yet.

At this point, it becomes apparent what the band are dressed in. Our lead singer is clad in, what is a a departure from the norm for Nekoni, an actual colour! He's wearing a dark red dress shirt, with a black (and normality is resumed!) tee underneath. The shirt has a bit of the military surplus about it, with it being ripped a little, and adorned with patches woven in of band logos, the CND logo for colour, and a nice big self-advertisement for his band on the left breast. The grebby look continues with the standard torn-at-the-knees dark jeans and black leather army boots. Additionally, he has a single fingerless leather glove on his non-microphone hand. One presumes there was an incident with the knife in rehearsal. The other three members of the band are wearing the same sort of thing, but all in black.

I'm not that naive person
That I was before it worsened
And now I've found myself a spine
Will you be staying for more, or
Leaving through the door?
Before you make me lose my mind

The chorus hits, and we get intermittent bursts of white light across the floor and stage in time with every "hit" as the singer, still on the rotating platform, does a mildly emotional air-grab towards the chest as he hits the higher notes of the lyrics. When the drums pick up, we have a nice jolt of strobe lighting as the camera dashes between the singer and the artists playing their instruments rapidly.

Please say
I'm tired of these useless games
Where the only winning move is just to never play
Just tell me that you'll stay
Or turn and walk away

The camera focuses up close on the singer, who is facing the south side towards the audience. In his free hand he reaches into his shirt pocket and reveals a flower: a red rose. Sweet...until he looks sternly at the camera, and crushes the flower in his hand. Thank goodness he had a glove after all; rose thorns sting like a mother.

I can't hold on no more
The future's up to you

During the nine seconds of this occuring, we come back to learn two things. One: the drummer is actually on a movable platform, so he isn't as immovable as one would have originally thought. Two: they must put something in the water in Ertzei Kishim, because in nine seconds, three stagehands have been able to push an entire drum kit and drummer forty feet down a ramp, lock the brakes, then dissappear without the cameras picking it up, or the platform overshooting and moving down the bassist.

As the verse continues, the singer walks up, the camera following him, up behind the drummer's platform, and the camera tilts to show him standing in front of the entrance to the ramp the drummer was on.

I'm not the simpering weak boy I was before
You can't have it all your own way any more
Believe, you'll see what I mean,
I am more than you think
(You take that back, you take that back)

Just before the bridge begins, he snaps his fingers, and when he does, a troupe of four skaters (two on boards, two on inline skates) come out from behind him, flanked two at either side. During the bridge, they basically use the stage as a street spot, grinding down the outer rails of the ramp, around the band, pulling a lip trick off of the conveniently placed half pipes at the diagonals of the stage, and flowing through an easy, yet exciting looking routine, as the singer goes back to the center spot, taking care not to be bodychecked by a sub-100lb teenager on a set of rollerblades.

Is what we have really true?
I can promise you, it
Won't hurt if you say goodbye
For once, just cut the crap and
Tell me, where's your mind at?
I'm sick of you wasting my time

At the chorus, each of the four skaters have made it to the lip of a quarter pipe each, and they grab what appears to be a large flag each, in alternating burgundy and white. They now completely circle the band, waving their flags to create a big hot mess of colour as the strobes and lights do its thing from before.

Please say
I'm tired of these useless games
Where the only winning move is just to never play
Just tell me that you'll stay
Or turn and walk away

The skaters drop their flags head back to their posts at the top of each quarter pipe and stand out facing the audience, as a nice large spot light illuminates the band in white. The flags disappearing means that we can see a stagehand has left the lead singer his trademark white flying-V guitar, which he uses during the second half of the middle 8.

Until death does us part
You're tearing at my heart
I'll put this choice on you
Whilst I've got some to lose
It's up to you to prove
We have too much to lose
I don't care what you choose
But promise me, please

At the first 'say' of the final chorus, the outer skaters grab another tool at the top of their platforms: some huge confetti cannons, and they fire them simultaneously at the audience. On the second drop, at 'where', both of the side ramp banisters ignite with golden pyro. Just to seal the deal on the performance, as the drummer gets a bit mad into the final couple of bars, the roof erupts in a shower of golden sparks.

Say
I'm tired of these useless games
Where the only winning move is just to never play
Just tell me that you'll stay
Or turn and walk away

As the end fades out, alongside the backing singers voices, the crowd goes wild, and the lead singer screams the usual thank yous in French and English. Nekoni are indeed back, but can they repeat the feat from two contests ago?

ETV1 presents WorldVision 82 - English language commentary by Cerin Erali and Flynn Taggart

Image

Image

CE: Welcome to WorldVision 82! Bienvenido a WorldVision 82! Yalcom WorldVision 82! I'm Cerin Erali...
FT: ... And I'm Flynn Taggart.
CE: And we are here live in Tiferet, Ert-zei Kish-im. Is that right, Fleen?
FT: Other than the short breaks in between each syllable, yes. Ertzei Kishim.
CE: Anyway, we're here and we're your English language commentators. For a Spanish commentary, Iyilim language commentary or to sing-along to each entry, please press the red button. Thank you. Para Español, Iyilim o karaoke, pulse botón rojo por favor. Gracias. Aspenol, Iyilim o cereoc - Ancelis o Aspenol, ne Iyilim - plaes toc rad boton. Fenci.
FT: Voting works the same way it always does. You either dial the number, text SONG, S-O-N-G in all caps, followed by the entry number to the other number, you click the button on the app.
CE: But there's a slight difference, isn't there Fleen?
FT: Yes, there is. For this competition only, perhaps many more depending on how well this whole thing goes though I highly doubt it, the juries will be giving their votes separately. So Nick will just announce the jury's top ten song. The televotes, which are the votes given by you the viewers at home, will be lumped together at the end and sorted out depending on country and how many points they received from everyone else.
CE: They'll explain it towards the end so don't worry if you didn't get it.
FT: Regardless, Aurora will be performing as song #12 so you can't vote for her. Let everyone in the other countries do it for you instead.
CE: I think that covers everything, doesn't it?
FT: It does.
CE: Onto the show!

Opening Act (the Parade of Nations is still WIP, as is my commentary for it)

CE: After an introduction video, we arrive here at the stadium. And what are we greeted with? A playlist of all of their winning songs! Including some from back when they were Kishrael.
FT: I never got the name change.
CE: Neither did I but anyhoo. We had some old classics like their first winner I Realise and their second winner Painful Silence. We even had their latest winner Red, which was kind of a surprise winner over in Nekoni a couple of contests ago. A song that ended a long non-winning streak, and rightfully so.
FT: Most of the winners might not have been my taste but I can see why they did win for them. If I wasn't so grouchy I probably would've liked them.
CE: Fortunately, I'm not. And I would've liked them even if I was. Anyhoo that brings us over to the PoN. The Parade of Nations. And let's just say that it was amaaaaazing. Great tune, great display and the acts sure knew how to introduce themselves to the world.
FT: You had Aurora Cassidy for Elejamie being accompanied by composer and conductor Chris Basset and composer and not-appearing-on-stage Soraya Esposito.
CE: Aurora, of course, being dressed in a coat, dress and shoes, which is what she'll be wearing for tonight's performance. Soraya was carrying a massive flag.
FT: And Chris just waved to the crowd.
CE: They stayed a good distance away from each other, too. Social distancing, peoples!
FT: You had Glen and Kartha, the representatives from Malta Comino Gozo, simply walking by and waving their flags and thanking people at the end.
CE: You had North Alezia's debutante Imara turning the floor into the colour of her nation's flag as she walked, a great way to show off the technology that went into that stage.
FT: You had the vowel people from Placely Placington making the crowd dead silent again.
CE: And many more. A great start to what should hopefully be a very great show. I'm already excited!

01 - Izmedu

CE: And what a way to kick things off! I mean, we've all heard the stories about how much she hates the contest -
FT: Can't say I blame her.
CE: - And the whole story about the making of the song. But this is really, really good. Could score quite well with us tonight.

02 - Zeganas

CE: When did they last compete again?
FT: I don't know, probably at a contest we weren't in.
CE: Either way, they're back! Probably. And what did they send us? This quite dancey track. Standard bubblegummy EDM but it's done well, so I give it a thumbs up.
FT: The kids'll probably love it.

03 - Waisnor

CE: It might not have been much but it's still a quite good tune. I was shuffling quite a bit to it up here in the booth. Again, could pick up a few points.

04 - Scotatrova

FT: I don't hate this.
CE: A nice, relaxing, guitary indie song. What is there to hate, Fleen?

05 - Beepee

FT: At least we're not the only one's going old school.
CE: That's not necessarily a bad thing. For example, this is a brilliant tune. Quite upbeat, very memorable, it just stays in your head.
FT: I'll see if I can buy a copy after the contest.

06 - Titaniumland

CE: It's been a good start so far, hasn't it? Six at least good songs on the bounce. Could be another stacked competition.
FT: Not as keen on this song but I can't complain about it.

07 - Ekoz

SADLY WITHDRAWN

08 - Missus X

ALSO WITHDRAWN

09 - North Alezia

CE: Ooh, now this is a new one. North Alezia with a popera song. A quite good popera song that's surely going to get some votes tonight. Probably from the hosts, too.
FT: I liked it too.

10 - Britonisea

CE: This song's a massive disappointment. The parts that doesn't sound someone strangling a mandrake is good, if a bit unfocused. But the parts that do really bring it down.
FT: Well done on your top five finish.

11 - Mister X

CE: Now this I like. Kind of fun, retro, danceable. What's not to like. Could see a point or two from us.

12 - Elejamie

FT: There's Aurora, doing a good job with her entry.
CE: Hopefully you'll do well for us tonight!

13 - Malta Comino Gozo

CE: Possible favourites maybe?
FT: Probably.
CE: I'm not sure either and I don't think the rest of the multiverse share my sentiments but this is something that should appeal to them. Great staging, good song, here's hoping it'll put them back in the top ten. Top five, maybe.

14 - Llalta

CE: It's a pleasing enough ballad. Not the greatest song in the multiverse but it's good enough for me and it should pick up a good amount of steam tonight.

15 - Polkopia

CE: I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being win number whatever -
FT: Ten.
CE: Win number ten for Polkopia, thanks Fleen. Very good entry, not much more needs to be said.

16 - Antahbrantahstan

CE: Ooh, dark and mysterious. It could do well tonight. Not necessarily a win but a possible dark horse top ten.

17 - Saviera

CE: Again a bit dark and mysterious, quite bassy as well. Not as high hopes for this one but it's still a decent tune.
FT: I'm still here, folks, I just didn't have much to say about these last few entries.

18 - Estogium

FT: It's decent.
CE: Worth the hype they were building up for it. If it's not top ten, it'll be around that area.

19 - Ertzei Kishim

CE: Our gracious hosts now. And they've sent this. It's OK. It's decent. I'd certainly dance to it if it was in the club.
FT: I feel like there's a but in that sentence somewhere.
CE: There isn't.

20 - Achaean Republic

FT: It's República Acayana, what do you expect.
CE: (unaware that it's a rhetorical question) Good quality island tunes that we can all dance to. And this song is indeed one of those. It even destroyed the other entries in the National Final, that's how good of a song it was!
FT: Didn't one of those songs fail to score a single point with any of the juries?
CE: It did but let's not get into that, let's not rub salt into anyone's wounds.

Dancing in the dark

The audience disliked the song and began throwing tomatoes on the singer. One of them hits the singer on her face and she runs away crying. "Y`all are a bunch of (*Slur*) ." The dancers just walk out of the arena, never to be seen again alive, but he will surely be able to float on nearby water or something.

MIMI LAMIRE
BREATHING
To the tune of Daisies by Katy Perry

Image

Marie Carine Lamire, born in 1998, was destined for stardom. Her parents, one a classical musician and the other a rock singer, birthed her into a world of nothing but music. Her influences are a broad range of genres and sounds, and she learnt at a very young age how to play piano, guitar and oddly, the clarinet. She was quiet in school, but kept up a high profile in terms of her musical ability. She discovered her love for singing while she was in the choir in middle school - as did her teachers and her classmates. She studied theatre and performing arts at high school, and went on to get a degree at university, aged 20. After she left university, she knew exactly what she wanted to do and worked hard in her early 20's to get there. As well as her musical skills, she also had a gift for songwriting. Her lyrical capabilities impressed her parents especially, who encouraged her to try and get signed to a label, where she could become the singer that she had always dreamed she could be. She made an impressive 4 track demo - mainly on the side of pop, but also she showcased her soft rock influences, which had been honed from her father's past - and sent it off to various labels across the country.

At age 22, Starlight Records picked her up almost instantly as they recognised her potential to be a huge star. Starlight wanted her to shine and created a persona for her, Mimi Lire, as they felt the name helped her stand out more. Throughout 2011, she started to write her debut album, and spent almost 10 months being an executive producer in the studio - until she struck gold. In January 2012, she debuted with the smash number one hit single, "Stole My Heart", which was EDM pop. It was a feel good track, and blew up after it received immense radio play as summer was approaching. By the end of 2012, it had sold 500,000 units in Besen alone. The music video was a bit controversial, as she displayed her almost naked body numerous times, but this only helped her as she started to build an excited fanbase who thought she was going to be the next big thing. She followed up in March 2012 with the similarly recieved single, "Daybreak", which was a lot more mature and rock-influenced than her debut. It proved she could fluidly switch between genres and established her as a stand-out act who could do something a little more different to what was in the mainstream at the time. It wasn't as much of a smash as her first, but still performed well on the charts, coming in at #5. After this, there was a massive hype building for her debut album, which was soon revealed to be called "Stories". It was heavily promoted by the label, as she appeared on countless late night talk shows, and performed at many festivals which took place all throughout the year. The album was released on July 21st 2012, and debuted at number one. It was a huge commercial success, debuting with upwards of 250,000 units. It stayed at the top spot for three more weeks, but still experienced long stability on the charts. The 12 track album was surprisingly confessional, which warranted her critical acclaim as well as an amazing response from fans. There were many different types of songs on the album, it showcased her upbringing perfectly. At the end of 2012, it had sold 1 million units, and ended up being the 3rd biggest selling album of the year - which was huge for a new artist.

After this, at the beginning of 2013, she embarked on a successful tour in Besen, where she performed material from Stories, but also some new songs, which she had begun to write while on the road. She took a few months off after the tour to write the second album - where she wanted to take a more lyrically mature route with her songwriting. The first single of her highly anticipated sophomore album came in June of 2013. "Wanna Be Me" broke the record for the fastest selling digital single in history. It debuted at number one and stayed there for an additional 8 weeks, which pretty much cemented her for superstardom, as many doubted she could pull off something bigger than her first album. The single sold 750,000 in 2013 - and has gone on to sell over 2 million units as of April 2020. It was a megahit and was to many, the song of the summer in that year. The second single on the album was a more emotional, and piano based track, called "I Wish You Would Stay", which was a massive departure from the upbeat nature of "Wanna Be Me". It proved her to be an excellent and emotive songwriter - and recieved critical acclaim from many, with a few criticisms being that they felt she could go further with the storytelling of her lyrics. It peaked at #10. She released one final single before the release of her second album "MIMI". It was called "Lean On", and was an EDM song, quite similar to some of the work on her first album - which appealed to fans mainly. The song performed really well on pop radio, but wasn't as hugely successful as the first single, just peaking at #9. MIMI was released in October of 2013, and was a commercial success as well as a critical hit. She managed to improve her first week sales over her first album and debuted at number one with 400,000 units, which was an amazing feat, especially for a solo female artist. The album was the biggest selling album of 2013 - selling even more albums than "Stories", with 950,000. It has since sold over 3 million units.

After MIMI and a massive arena tour that followed, 2014 was a tough year for Marie. Her mother sadly passed away from lung cancer at the beginning of the year - which caused her to cancel a few of her final tour dates, so she could gather herself and mourn the loss she had just endured. She felt destroyed and couldn't bare to go back to work for a while afterwards. A long break ensued after this, and she only began writing again in June of 2015, with something to prove and something so deep within her. The themes of the third album were pretty clear from the outside view of the anxiously waiting fans, who hadn't had a taste of anything from her for over a year now. Many of the songs she wrote about losing her mother, and she had also just broken up with her long time boyfriend at the time - which effected her greatly. The tabloids were doubting her longevity too - calling her irrelevant and over-emotional. She fired back at them in a series of infamous tweets, where she called out the media for being cruel and overly critical of people's personal lives. The album was going to be deep. She recorded and released the first single at the very end of 2015, starting her big comeback as a force to be reckoned with. The song, "Couldn't Have Loved You More" was an interesting kind of memorial to her past relationship, and was an a breakup anthem adopted as a massive fan favourite by many within her fandom. It debuted at number two, which was a decline from her previous two lead singles. Although, it was an impressive feat, as the song was a ballad and wasn't exactly mainstream. It didn't hold any of themes from previous works, it was grieving and not at all uplifting - which was about to change. A surprise to fans, the second official single was released without any prior notice on January 4th of 2016. "Bye Bye" was a drastic and pleasing shift from CHLYM. It was a ray of light during the dark times of her life. It's bright and poppy instrumentation made it an instant hit - along with it's themes of perseverance and overcoming dark moments and coming out of them stronger. It peaked at #1 and was a smash radio hit, and undoubtedly one of the biggest pop culture moments of 2016. It topped many year end lists for critics' favourite songs. After the hype of "Bye Bye" died down a little bit, she focused on promoting one of the most important albums of her career. It was so anticipated by many, so when she revealed the 17 song tracklist the internet went into meltdown, and tried to decipher what the album was going to be called. On her Instagram, she blacked everything out and a few days after, as the patient fans watched, she revealed letter by letter the title. "For Us" (a nod to her close relationship with her mother) was released on March 20th 2016, with huge acclaim. It also performed well commercially, topping the charts with 350,000 units, which although it was downwards of what "MIMI" achieved, was still a really good number. The era was closed out with two more singles: "High Walls" and "Closure" - which peaked at #23 and #34 respectively.

For album four, Marie went way back to her roots, and spent a lot of time with her father making the record. It was heavily guitar-based and the instrumentation is mainly from him, as he himself is really talented when it comes to the rock genre. She wanted to make something that would shock people and prove that you can't expect anything to be the same from her with each era. This proved to be right, as the roll-out was incredibly tight and short. In 2017 - just one single, "Memory" preceded the album. It was a moderate success commercially as it eventually peaked at #8. This was probably because of it's heavy rock sound and visual. The music video for the song was simple but really nice and was appreciated by both fans and critics alike. "Back Home" came in August 2017, and went straight atop the album charts. It sold 190,000 copies in it's first week, which is obviously an example of a decline in sales from her peak. It didn't really concern Marie though - as she wasn't chasing massive commercial success with the album, and for a rock album, it did incredibly well - and gained her a lot of fans from those who found her new sound a lot more appealing than some of her pop work.

After this, she became a sponsor to the Broken Homes Foundation, which helps vulnerable and misfortuned children get fed and housed - while lifting them out of poverty and into new opportunities. She gained a lot of praise for being so deeply involved and was incredibly financially generous to the foundation, giving an enormous 4 million AUC. It was through her involvement that she became a headline performer for Bring Kids Home, which was a charity concert - eventually raising several million auchtes for the cause. She met with many people in charge of BSB while doing this, as it was being broadcasted all around the country on the national broadcaster.

She herself initiated the conversation about possibly doing Worldvision in the future, to which BSB were seriously interested, dating all the way back to Besen's beginnings in the contest in 2018. Unfortunately, they had already been in conversation and had confirmed Erica for the 63rd contest - so the negotiations were pushed back for possibly the next competition. It wasn't until the 80th contest ended that BSB would re-enter into an agreement with Marie, promising a large sum of money if she would represent the nation at the 82nd contest - giving her many months to write a brand new song and orchestrate things how she wanted them behind the scenes. In 2019, she went off the grid and fans were left anxiously waiting what was coming next... It turns out that during the later months of the year she was participating in several songwriting camps, collaborating with some of the hitmakers that she had already mixed with early in her career.

She wrote "Breathing" in November of 2019, along with Craig Krilis and Emilia Loarvon - the latter involved with her massive smash hit "Wanna Be Me". The song speaks about the liberation of beginning to love yourself for all of your flaws and misfortunes. It's inspired by Marie's collaboration with the BHF, and she says she wrote the song as an anthem for them - to give them hope of a better future, and that things will change for the better soon. It's a sweet pop tune, with an acoustic hook mixed with a thumping instrumental, putting a smile on your face as you follow her journey to happiness. She isn't going into Worldvision to have a record breaking winner's moment - she just wants to spread a little light and positivity in these dark times. Free yourself.

You had counted me out
I could barely contend it
But then I realised that
I'm more than what you had spoken

I'm still breathing
I'm the one succeeding
I made it out alive

I told you to your face, that
I won't light a fire
Just to keep you warm, yeah
I feel so inspired
So you can call me crazy
This feeling doesn't scare me
As long as I'm still breathing, breathing, breathing

I've had to face some hardships
I really miss my mom
It only makes me stronger,
This woman I've become
So go and call me crazy!
Your words, they don't faze me
As long as I'm still breathing, breathing, breathing

Why is it so hard for you to be kinder?
You tried to sneak back into my life
You thought I would have it

I'm still breathing
I'm the one succeeding
I made it out alive

I told you to your face, that
I won't light a fire
Just to keep you warm, yeah
I feel so inspired
So you can call me crazy
This feeling doesn't scare me
As long as I'm still breathing, breathing, breathing

I've had to face some hardships
I really miss my mom
It only makes me stronger,
This woman I've become
So go and call me crazy!
Your words, they don't faze me
As long as I'm still breathing, breathing, breathing

Hey, yeah - baby I'm still breathing
Hey, yeah

I'm still breathing
I'm the one succeeding
I made it out alive

I told you to your face, that
I won't light a fire
Just to keep you warm, yeah
I feel so inspired
So you can call me crazy
This feeling doesn't scare me
As long as I'm still breathing, breathing, breathing

I've had to face some hardships
I really miss my mom
It only makes me stronger,
This woman I've become
So go and call me crazy!
Your words, they don't faze me
As long as I'm still breathing, breathing, breathing

31. LOCHARIO

Erik Van Doouger ft. DJ Kolli[
/color]

[color=#00BF00]
BLAZERS

Tune: Eminem- Without Me
Two infamous hip hop musicians are going to perform at the WorldVision song contest for Lochario. Erik Van Doouger is known for his cheeky phrases and offensive music on an interstate level. DJ.Kolli is also notoriously known for cheating while performing on stage. The newest hit Blazers is ready to put them to the top again.

The song starts with a red background and cannabis leave in the background, followed by the smoke coming out of the floor. This effect and the background continue throughout the song.

Lyrics:

Refrain:
Guess, who's back
Back from death!
Blazers back!
From the death!

Now, let's just get this straight, baby
Cause you know you wanna try it out
Let's just hit this motherfrick
Since you've just come to my place.

As you as you hit the bong
You can feel the hit in your head
This just means that you're not thicc
For this big Boi, just like a real chickie!

The lyrics and the refrain repeat throughout the song

The song ends with a green flare

33 - Normandy and Picardy
"Moodboard" - Séance Chez Moi
Tune: ("Five Years Time" - Noah and the Whale)

Image
Séance Chez Moi, an up-and-coming group from Le Havre. Going from left to right, we have Fallou Delorme, Sebastian Bouchier, Alexandre Valjean and Marc Abassi

As the music began the grand surroundings of the stage are nowhere to be found. It seemed, rather, that the camera feed had accidentally cut to a teenager's room, messy and unkempt, albeit in slightly gaudy colours. Worry not! This was actually on the stage in Tiferet, but let's return back to the view at present. The first shot was actually looking down towards the bed, before the cameraman slowly lifted up the camera and walked every so slightly backwards to show the scene more generally, albeit with an effect to make the image quite hazy. Here could be seen the general mess described, and a somewhat dishevelled looking Alexandre lying on the bed with a bottle of cheap red in his hand. As the song slowed down, seeming as if it is about to come to a very premature end, the camera seemed to zoom in towards the bottle of wine, but it was actually looking past to the phone on the bedside table. This suddenly burst into life as the ukelele came in once more, seemingly acting as an alarm, with the message "WORLDVISION" appearing as a reminder. At this, a startled Alexandre suddenly jumped up, tangled in his tv cover, as if realising he'd missed something important. He scrambled about as if looking for his ukelele, although this of course only made clear both his own unpreparedness but also the fact the instrumentation was provided by a backing track, making his struggle seemingly pointless at the same time. The cameraman in fact moved the camera from side to side as if we are getting a view of the room from some disapproving parent, before seeming to take pity on Alexandre and pass him the ukelele himself. Alexandre, meanwhile, had been trying, and failing to tidy up. He began to almost desparately strum along on the ukelele, looking a mixed of absolutely terrified and strangely relaxed, somehow both at the same time, sat on the bed with his legs crossed, playing with his instrument, and barely in his pyjamas.

So I'm waking up alone again for the millionth time
After another night spent with myself and my wine
And telling myself "tomorrow I'll be just fine"
Whilst knowing I'm a total mess
What can I do?

Much remains the same in this section, with Alexandre swaying side to side slightly as he played along, somewhere between wistfulness and a general apathy. I suppose there is not much more that needs to be said really. But, perhaps I will. The room around Alexandre, whilst being a pigsty, in general it seemed rather bare. There was the bad, a little table at the side, a desk with a stool, but these were the only physical objects present on the stage (not including the panels themselves, of course), everything else from the wardrobes to the window with the view of the stars twinkling in the night being painted on, and in a way that made this definitely noticeable, but in its own way rather charming in its artifice. Anyway, won't keep you too long, feel free to carry on (although you were anyway).

When you talk on, on, on
About how life is great for you
Going on, on, on
About how you're functional now
On, on, on
About how you've got your life
And on, on, on
Just give me a break

As the next verse began, the fact that Alexandre was in fact not in a random room somewhere but was actually on stage in Tiferet was made apparent, as groups of technicians began to take away the three background panels made to represent the walls of the room. This seemed to come as quite the shock to poor Alexandre, and the absurdity of his situation was made even more apparent with a series of wide panoramic shots showing the humongous stage, which Alexandre, his bed and the remaining furniture bang in the middle, and the arena more widely. The floor of the stage had been made to look like a rather rough rug or piece of carpet. After a few such shots the view returned to stage level, and I mean stage level, as the cameraman from earlier had simply put down his camera and walked off. Alexandre was forced to go and pick it up, and place it on a chair that had also been left behind, before jumping back onto the bed.

I feel late to my own sodding stage show
The set's being put away because I'm just so slow
And sometimes I wonder if I even know
Where I've even been and maybe where I have to go

Jumping back onto the mess that masqueraded as his bed, Alexandre continued to strum his ukelele, although in a way that may it obvious that he wasn't even really trying to look like he was playing it, although really that particular ship had very much already sailed. With the "drink alone" line, he turned to face his bottle of wine that he had placed on the side table, looking almost puzzled at how it had got there, and shrugging his shoulders, before turning back around.

And you can chat, chat, chat
Whilst I drink alone
And you can drink, drink, drink
Whilst I'm sat at home
And then there's sex, sex, sex
What even is that?
And then there's life, life, life
I've heard great things

As the instrumental break began, the camera feed faded before we return to a view directly above the stage, which has now become a kaleiodscopic image which a close reveal shows is made up of beds, various cans and bottles, whilst we got a slightly weird view of Alexandre getting up from his bed and walking off to join a queue of people on the stage, made up of rest of the band members and Marie Valleur, Alexandre's girlfriend and provider of the female vocals for this entry (albeit not officially credited; indeed, she did not provide them in the studio version), a socially distanced 2m apart from one another (although this is pretty much an accident given Normandy and Picardy has thus far not been afflicted with what is to the Normands a matter of rumour from across the multiverse), with another older woman sat behind a desk with a large pile of papers. The cameraman, who had seemingly returned from his coffee break for this verse and picked up his camera, looked towards the table, where there was a sheet of paper with Alexandre's face crossed out, before turning to look at Alexandre, continuing to strum along on his banjo, and again shaking the camera as if we have a eyesight view of the situation.

And then I'll tell myself that everyone else is just like me
But then I look outside my window and I hate the whole scene
Because I'm suddenly reminded of my inadequacy
And now I have to square up later to my inabilities

For the repeated word bits for the section below, the rest of the band and Marie turned around to look towards Alexandre, still standing there in his pyjamas and with nothing on his feet (a surefire way to win? Probably not in this case I reckon) and sing along, before turning back around to rejoin the queue. They all seemed to have come to terms with their existence and its nature, whereas Alexandre was still stuck in his youth, trying to avoid the obvious and the inevitable, and thinking his problems were worth more than anyone elses, whilst actually refusing to address them. Or at least, that is one way of interpreting the situation; somewhere in here there remains, of course, an earnest cry for help and support.

And I could cry, cry, cry
I don't have the tears
And I could scream, scream, scream
But I'd have to try
And I could die, die, die
But I'm barely alive anyway, way, way
So I just sigh

Seemingly getting impatient, Alexandre proceeded to leave the queue behind and walk back towards his bed, but to his shock and horror it was gone; now, only the stool remained. There would be no sleeping on that. And, as he looked all confused, from behind him the people in the queue began to walk past, getting on with their lives, looking all properly dressed etc., and the floor beneath their feet made to look like a path with Alexandre having strayed from it. He appeared to try to reach out to them, but they were no longer interested; they had once been his friends but were now going about with their lifes and had seemingly forgotten him, leaving Alexandre looking quite desparate standing there in his pyjamas.

And I suppose I could work on trying to sort myself out
But I wouldn't know where to start, it'd be a total rout
And I can't help but feel I've let my whole soul rot
And I sometimes wonder how I even made it out the cot

Alexandre at this point seemed to just give up and proceeded to lie on the stage floor itself, as it now changed to show images of the other band members and Marie, including a rather heart wrenching scene in which Marie seemed to break up with Alexandre (or, rather, it must be pointed out the character being played by Alexandre here

So I ask myself
How did I get here?
I ask myself
Want another beer?
I ask myself
Why can't it be clear?
So I ask myself
Until the questions stop

And in my dreams, dreams, dreams
I can be me
Yes, in my dreams, dreams, dreams
Part of society
In my dreams, dreams, dreams
Wish I could be
There in my dreams, dreams, dreams
But I'm stuck here

And in my dreams, dreams, dreams
I can be me
Yes, in my dreams, dreams, dreams
Part of society
In my dreams, dreams, dreams
Wish I could be
There in my dreams, dreams, dreams
But I'm stuck here right on my bed

COMMENTARY-NORTH ALEZIA
DISCLAIMER: PLEASE DON'T BE OFFENDED. IT'S JUST A COMMENTARY...
Image
Commentator:
Ishtar Hamaza
Lily McHammerson

IH: And welcome to Tiferet, everyone! I'm Ishtar
LM: And I'm Lily, giving you coverage from Tiferet, Ertzei Kishim for the Worldvision Song Contest 82. As you can see, after years of negotiating between the ABA and the Government, we finally got our wish and see our flag rise in Worldvision for the first time! I can't wait.... We'll be represented by Imara, in which she implemented a lot of these technologies for her act. We have been increasingly known in this competition.
IH: Right you are, Lily! And we also won't forget to remind you that if you want to hear your commentary on other languages, always press the six language buttons on your remote.
1. Press A for English, in which you're listening to right now
2. Press B for Arabic, with Khalqi and Arizana
3. Press C for Hebrew, with Ma'esh and Heidi
4. Press D for Indonesian, with Alqan and Damaranti
5. Press E for Russian, with Mehmet and Riva
6. Press F for Aramnan, with Ismaroux and Marienna

LM: And don't forget to call 010-1010-1010-XX, with XX being the song number. North Alezia is on song no. 9 with Imara Syafani's You Are, and obviously, you can't vote for her. You can also go to your nearest FABA (North Alezia's flagship retail) around you and vote from there. Remember, you can only vote 5 times, so choose wisely!
IH: Ah! Okay guys, we're entering the venue... Brace yourself!

OPENING CEREMONY AND PARADE OF NATIONS
IH: I gotta say, the venue's amazing...
LM: Agreed. It's really something. You can build a village there!
IH: Wanna live there?
LM: Wut? No.
IH: Hehe. Anyway, we start with a story here, and the megamix of Ertzei Kishim's whole history of Worldvision glory!
LM: Brought back memories...
(After the whole megamix thing)
IH: Okay, guys! The parade starts now! There are two acts walking at the same time, and since we're number 9... Imara will be walking with Britonisea's Kristiana Totem!
LM: Britonisea is a very good Worldvision country. They won last edition, but sadly, they flopped back in WHF 51. There's a story involving that in ABAMAGZ. Make sure to read it. It's a funny one.
IH: Yeah, sure... There are simple introductions like MCG's Glen and Kartha, and then you have Imara's sophisticated technology, Placey Placington's vowel tribe... And then also Beepee's Birthe Right suprised by Titaniumland's Joelle sneezing next to her. Really surprising because it's COVID-19... North Alezia don't have confirmed cases, and usually if there's one, we'll take care of it quickly.
(After the whole countries are introduced)
LM: Well, that's all! May the best country win, and let's play fun and have a good experience, shall we?
IH: Yes, obviously. Let the games started!
LM: Whooooo!!!

ALL ACTS
1. IZMEDU
LM: Even though the singer don't actually like Worldvision, she actually handles it very well!
IH: I agree with you.

2. ZEGANAS
LM: The music will be popular around kids in North Alezia, that's what I know.
IH: Yup. The music is a bop, but the lyrics maybe needs more polish.

3. WAISNOR
IH: Hehe. Mehmet and Riva will like this. A song in Russian! Really something.
LM: Well, Waisnor speaks Russian, so it's logical for them to send a song in Russian!

4. SCOTATROVA
IH: Yeehaw! Bring me to the Wild West, baby!
LM: Okay, I'll just rent out a horse back in Zafi. Good music.

5. BEEPEE
LM: Birthe, you're really someone who lights up the positivity here! I like it.
IH: Yeah, I feel more energetic after hearing this. All in Your Mind.... Maybe I can test that out when all of this are done.

6. TITANIUMLAND
LM: Love the lyrics. It's really meaningful, and you can feel the lyrics' meaning.
IH: Yeah. We need more equality, guys! Dear Parliament, can you please work this out?

7. EKOZ
LM: This news is just recently in! Ekoz is withdrawing.
IH: I hope nothing bad happens to them. I also hope that they return with better quality songs, too.

8. MISSUS X
IH: Another news. Missus X withdrew.
LM: That's pretty sad. I hope we can hear more of their songs next time.

9. NORTH ALEZIA
LM: That's us! Good song, Imara! I hope we earn a good result!
IH: We actually have a good chance of having a nice result this edition. I'm going to love this contest.

10. BRITONISEA
LM: Another good song from Britonisea!
IH: They always strives for quality in their songs. Really beautiful.

11. MISTER X
LM: That pause for a PSA, it's good to bring stuff like self-isolation into attention.
IH: Listen to that, guys! Just because North Alezia don't have confirmed any cases yet, that doesn't mean you can just go out without any protection measures. We are still safe, but we need to isolate ourselves, guys!. If you need to go out from the country or city, always self-isolate for 14 days first, like our National Team!

12. ELEJAMIE
IH: That's a really good one! An old-school song with a good chance of housewife-voters!
LM: As a housewife myself, I can say that it's beautifully written and composed.

13. MALTA COMINO GOZO
LM: Love the staging and love the duet's blend.
IH: They should make more albums and singles together. This is good.

14. LLALTA
LM: The tune is pretty good, giving me chills.
IH: Agreed. You gotta love a tune like that.

15. POLKOPIA
IH: Sorry, but it kinda feels a bit average.
LM: But their connection with route is kinda awesome and majestic. Maybe we'll write... I dunno, Highway A-9? (the creepiest highway in North Alezia)
IH: Don't.

16. ANTAHBRANTAHSTAN
IH: I like the music.
LM: Yup, really nice to listen to.

17. SAVIERA
LM: Awww yeah! Love the music! Can someone please pull a disco ball down here?
IH: I'll buy em.

18. ESTOGIUM
LM: Ah yeshh. We finally have a listen to Elias' song. Song's story about cruel truth but pretty beautiful song about young life.
IH: It's definitely something. I can say that.

19. ERTZEI KISHIM
IH: Oooh... The host are playing smart for the Alezian Televotes. People here will vote for Hebrew and Arabic references!
LM: Yeah, I heard some noises from the Hebrew and Arabic commentary room back in Zafi (they're connected by phone). They went "Woooooooo!" and stuff.

20. ACHAEAN REPUBLIC
LM: The Aramnans gonna love this. The tropical feel is also there! Really nice.
IH: Can I have a coconut juice?

21. PLACEY PLACINGTON
(IH is basically on fire, with LM attempting to swish the fire away)
IH: DON'T JUST DO THAT!!! I DON'T KNOW USE BAKING SODA OR SOMETHING!!!
LM: AHH!!! WAIT, (*water from the sprinkler fells down, finally extinguished the fire on Ishtar)
IH: Phew... The music, it's just (*catches on fire again*) Oh, for God's sake... AHHHHH!!!
LM: WELL AT LEAST THEY ARE USING THEIR VOWEL CULTURE PROPERLY, THE LYRICS ARE ACTUALLY PRETTY MEANINGFUL! Wait here, I'll get the fire extinguisher.

22. KALOSIA
LM: I love it.
IH: Yup, definitely something to watch out for.

23. AXUVA
IH: I LOVE THE KOREAN!!! Koreans are a minority in North Alezia, but they'll love it!
LM: And the team balances their voices perfectly.

24. TALVEZOUT
LM: I like slow-paced songs.
IH: I know, right? Really relaxing, and the lyrics are nice to read, as well!

25. NAHLCOMO
IH: The singer is beautiful, it almost feels like she's a robot!
LM: I want makeup reccomendations from her. Her song is good as well.

26. BAYILAN
LM: Ooohh techno! Beep-Boop-Bop!
IH: A job well done, Bayilan!

27. AMUAPYLE
OOC: DELETED?

28. NEKONI
LM: The tunes are awesome. It's rock.
IH: I like it, as well..

29. VARTUGIA
IH: The lyrics... I almost got burned again... But actually, Vartugia do have good tune this edition!
LM: Speaking of burn... NOW IT'S ME WHO CAUGHT A FIRE! QUICK, LUCKY THERE ARE EXTINGUISHER IN EVERY ROOM!

30. BESEN
LM:I kinda like the modern feel
IH: Hm? The singer is beautiful, too!

31. LOCHARIO
IH: Dayum! Rap. I love it!
LM: You're a rap person, Ishtar.

32. PROLUVIA
(because the entry died cuz of dysentery, this comment died as well. No comment.)

33. NORMANDY AND PICARDY
IH: The lyrics and the music made me want to go to the beaches...
LM: Actually, that's a good idea. But, will Ertzei Kishim allow it?

34.HAFAMARIMET
IH: Dance it! Dance it! The music is very fun!
LM: Also, using your native language is obviously a plus! I like it!

35. TODLICHEBUJOKU
IH: Party Music + Deep Lyrics = Beautiful Music.
LM: Well said, Ishtar... Well said.

Come to Me
Ïnüh Pmïlgint

Ïnüh Pmïlgint has been a major star in Hafämarimët for the last ten years. When HafTV decided to return to WorldVision, Ïnüh was immediately approached to represent the country. He happily accepted the offer and wrote Come to Me that weekend.

Tonight, in Tiferet, he calms himself with a deep breath before the beat kicks in. In perfect time, he walks down the pathway to the center, arriving as the overhead lights cut out and a bright flash of white from the floor narrows from the edge inwards, disappearing completely with the return of a single spotlight just in time for the first line.

Love comes quietly (an idiom meaning roughly the same as "love at first sight")

My bitten teeth, I see the spark in your eyes (My bitten teeth - an expression meaning to prepare oneself, often to make someone seem braver than they are)
My fate is in your hands
Like a new flower opening, my colors will get brighter

In the middle of the night

Come to me
It feels like love
Come to me

You keep inspiration hidden in the crook of your neck
A star on your shoulder guides you
Sturdy from root to branch (an idiom meaning someone who has it all together, confident, strong)
Come to me

Come to me

Poets wrote of things like this
Day after day the sun doesn't lose its heat
My love for you is like that

Come to me
Come to me
Come to me

In the middle of the night
Come to me
It feels like love
Come to me
Let it be love

In fifty years I'm still with you
We watch the sunrise from our home, oh
You're still the only one for me
And we are happy and free

I still love you, I still love only you
Tomorrow it will be the same
I still have the urge to prove my love for you
Because it isn't weaker than when we met

In the middle of the night

Come to me
It feels like love

Feel Alive

Noravas ft. Álvrüttá Matsuvoka

Veluna, Liberuya | Recently

The voting was tense, the presenter on stage calling out each vote one by one. Artteman clutched Álvrüttá's hand with bated breath at every announcement. They had done the best they could- but was it enough? For some moments it seemed like they could really win, but with each such moment another act rose above them. And when it seemed that all was lost and they lost any lead that they mustered, a fresh wave would arrive. But in the end, they didn't win. They never did. The presenter- Otso? Anya? Momoko? the face changed every time- would give the trophy to the winner, as Artteman and Álvrüttá would stand and clap, and congratulate the winner, again and again, before the lights faded away and there was just applause in a dark stadium and a wintry chill coursing through his bones...

Artteman, the face of Noravas, woke up in a sweat, the bedsheets constricting him as the sun shone unwelcome through the hotel curtains. He never tried to let the results get to him, especially as each time the pair had attained a very palatable and honorable result, but his perfectionist tendencies had their free reign in his subconscious and the dreamworld of his sleep. While in Sinun Valintasi: Starfall, the 2nd place was a pleasant surprise for both him and Álvrüttá, the 3rd place in the 51st WHF came with a taste of bitterness deep within due to the hype for them that had been apparent beforehand, despite knowing full well that the two acts that placed above were excellent and absolutely deserved what they received. Stripping off the nest of sheets, he rose up out of bed, grabbing a glass of water to assuage his rumbling stomach. TÖBUK had called him earlier out of the blue like a clingy Izmeduan friend, explaining a dire situation, and he had agreed to appear for Tödlichebujoku once more. Reflecting back on his dreams, he wondered if that was really that great of an idea. But then again, he'd never played a set in Ertzei Kishim before, and he was ready for an adventure.

Above Tiferet, Ertzei Kishim | Present Day

Álvrüttá gazed out over the scrubby hills and olive orchards to the east of Tiferet as the dragon circled its way toward the airport, the low landscape giving way to sunbaked streets and the stunningly blue sea beyond. It was her first time beyond Jemee, and certainly her first time in Ertzei Kishim. In fact, it was the first time a Tödlichebujoki delegation had entered the country for a regular WorldVision edition, in all of its 47-edition participation history. With the dragon swooping in for a landing, Álvrüttá imagined what it would be like if Tödlichebujoku had entered the WorldVision Song Contest one edition earlier, how Sakura Yééger would have felt as she embarked on what would become a great journey for a great many Tödlichebujoki artists and fans. How different would it be from landing in Kalosia that debut edition? Would Tödlichebujoku have ultimately predicted the top two in this scenario? There were so many intriguing possibilities- where would he be now? Before she could really delve into that, the cabin accent lights blinked on as the air host chimed, signaling that it was time to disembark. Artteman, meanwhile, was deeply focused on fine-tuning his latest festival mix, and needed a firm nudge to look up and get his bearings.

After going through the barrage of airport niceties and navigation, the two finally made it to a decently endowed scenic overlook. Gazing at the azure sea and golden cliffs for some time, Artteman finally spoke up, his voice cutting through the soft salty sea breeze.

"Well, I think that's worth it all just by itself."

Taking in the glow of the impending sunset, Álvrüttá had to agree.

The stage slowly begins to glow with a deep blue haze, which morphs in an iridescent manner to a deep red that pulsates with the beat. A bright white spotlight shines down upon the backside of Álvrüttá, who is dressed in a slim, shimmering white gown that trails down behind her. At first she is facing away from the camera, eventually turning her head back to face them, before ultimately turning back and hanging her head in internal turmoil, taking a moment to take a breath and steady her nerves. In the mist of the soft haze, she appears to glow in the white light, ethereal and otherworldly like a fever dream

Each night we're focused on fighting
Though there's no passion igniting
Maybe it's not worth this denying
Oh there never was enough
There never was enough

Álvrüttá whirls around, arcing her head around just so in a comfortable fashion, letting her hair follow her movement and wrap over to her front in an elegant motion, thus breaking the façade of an illusion and shifting back into sharp reality. She raises her head upwards to the light, as if pleading for answers from the gods above, before sinking her weary gaze back down toward the audience before her, eyes drained of hope and desperate. Around her wraps an oppressive darkness, virtually a physical presence despite the pulsating haze below and the spotlight above, a faint crackle of electric light occasionally visible in the dark mist around her

Found me searching for answers
Why we're in a disaster, zone
I feel I'm swimming through darkness
Won't ever find enough
Won't ever find it

With the transition to the chorus, the ambient pulsing and lights dissipate, leaving Álvrüttá alone glowing in a cloud of crackling darkness that blends into the darkness throughout the arena. She strikes an arm outward, pushing away the darkness, which crackles angrily upon contact. She continues pushing at it with both arms as she continues, stepping forward, such that the crackling darkness begins to recede behind her and become a background, instead of a danger and obstacle. Upon singing "Gotta close this door in our lives," she steps fully clear of the darkness and shines with all her glory

Can't keep pretending
That all our heartbeats tremble for something
That we both know we won't wait for nothing
Gotta close this door in our lives
And let's feel alive

The darkness fades away, melding into the rest of the unlit expanse of the arena, as pure beams of light pierce across the stage and interior, lingering for a moment like brilliant lightning bolts, before dissipating and giving way to a new beam of light elsewhere in the arena. Álvrüttá slowly whirls around, the camera view tracking her face from an angle above, the beams of light visible as they pierce diagonally in different directions around her as she clutches at herself, her eyes closed as the occasional gleam of light bounces off her and reflects into the camera view

Oh, baby, let me go
Oh, baby, let me go
Oh, baby, let me go
Let me, let me

Oh, baby, let me go
Oh, baby, let me go
Oh, baby, let me go
I gotta feel alive, I gotta feel

Álvrüttá leans and transitions into an elegant dance, grooving to the music, arms over her head and down her body, as bolts of light hit her from random directions, and vertical lights blink down over the audience, slowly slanting diagonally away from the stage. Flanking her, on the side portions of the stage floor, are visions of two feminine-looking figures on each side, one silver and one charcoal black, performing a combative yet also avoidant dance, dueling in close quarters and then separating to be yards apart, mirroring one another's moves as they circle one another, eventually turning away, with the silver figure mirroring Álvrüttá's moves

Can't keep pretending
That all our heartbeats tremble for something
That we both know we won't wait for nothing
Gotta close this door in our lives
And let's feel alive

The figures fade away as the focus returns to Álvrüttá, however shots of light still flash across the air to the beat as she stops dancing and returns her attention to the audience before and around her. She strides to the edge of the stage gazing straight toward the audience in front of her, and straight into the camera view as it passes near her, determined, direct, and unwavering. A faint breeze shifts her hair ever so slightly as she turns away in disappointment and weariness at the last two lines

You don't believe its deceiving
I know you see what I'm seeing
I'm dreaming of freedom
And this just isn't love
No it just isn't love

A low rim of fire rises along the edge of the stage, as a camera shot along its length captures prophetic visions within the myriad dancing flames that shift colors beyond the ordinary range of white to red. Soon after, another shot at about waist height pans by Álvrüttá, facing upward toward the wavering, star-like lights far above her, the occasional diagonal beam of light flashing by, before being replaced by a more traditional shot of her, with a distant gaze, first in the direction of the fire, then in the direction of the stars. She then turns back to the audience with a sweeping, disappointed glance

I look to the fire that's breathing
I turn to the stars for their meaning
But they answer the same, oh
This never was enough
It never was enough

A large number of spotlights concentrate around Álvrüttá, strobing around her in a conical pattern as she raises her arms out in front of her, as if pleading. The strobing spotlights transition to several sets of spotlights that flash in different configurations around her in time to the beat. Putting all of her power in her voice, Álvrüttá feels as if her world is bounded by the array of spotlights flashing around her, making a conscious effort to look beyond toward the audience, and toward the cameras hovering around her, to smoothly transition between the two points of focus

Can't keep pretending
That all our heartbeats tremble for something
That we both know we won't wait for nothing
Gotta close this door in our lives
And let's feel alive

Oh, baby, let me go
Oh, baby, let me go
Oh, baby, let me go
Let me, let me

Oh, baby, let me go
Oh, baby, let me go
Oh, baby, let me go
I gotta feel alive, I gotta feel

A gust of wind blasts upon her, so that the fire along the stage edge billows into a huge blast of flame, whereupon Álvrüttá's gown burns off and dissolves into smoke, leaving her with a skintight shimmering golden jumpsuit, her skin and hair unsinged, her appearance otherwise untouched. She spins around, the light reflecting off her suit in a dazzle, before leaning forward, into the song, with all her energy

Can't keep pretending
That all our heartbeats tremble for something
That we both know we won't wait for nothing
Gotta close this door in our lives
And let's feel alive

The lighting dies down, the fire ceases, as Álvrüttá transitions to a calmer, more fluid dance that is only visible during the occasional, sporadic flash of light amidst the utter darkness, her outfit radiant with every flash, and every flash coming in faster and faster as the song builds back up to the final chorus

I gotta feel alive
I gotta feel alive
I gotta feel alive
I gotta feel alive
I gotta feel alive
I gotta feel alive
This never was enough
What will it take now?

As the lighting intensifies, Artteman makes an appearance clad all in black, with a black jacket on top. Surrounded by bursts of sparks, the two re-enact the dance performed by the figures earlier on in the performance, starting with an intimate, yet combative choreography that transitions to a distant circling with mirrored moves. Álvrüttá's dancing grows more euphoric and liberated as the chorus goes on

Can't keep pretending
That all our heartbeats tremble for something
That we both know we won't wait for nothing
Gotta close this door in our lives
And let's feel alive

The lights cut out bit by bit, as the two fall to the floor, reaching for one another, before turning away, the camera capturing the two from above as they form a symmetrical pattern on the stage floor

I gotta feel alive
I gotta feel alive
I gotta feel alive
I gotta feel alive
Something, I gotta feel it

The light lingers on Álvrüttá intensifies suddenly before blinking out, leaving the arena silent and in darkness for a few seconds

"Kiitos kaikille, Tiferet!" shouted Álvrüttá after getting back on her feet. Next to her, Artteman nods, tossing out a quick "Rauha" with a quick salute before the two executed a quick bow and exited the stage, making way for the hosts and interval act that was soon to follow.

Stefania: And there we have it! 31 fabulous entries, ready to compete for the right to succeed our current champions Britonisea. But before we find out, why don't we take a little glimpse back into last years contest, and what better way than inviting back a VERY special guest.

INTERVAL ACT
. : Britonisea - בריטוניסיה - بريطونيس: .
Kelsey Banques - Indestructible

Dotter - Bulletproof

As the audience came in with a cheer, the arena was lit up in Britonish colours. The arena turned dark after a while. As Kelsey started singing, the song, audience starting cheering with it being heard in the background of the song. Kelsey Banques started off in a different way to her VM performance, with her looking into one of the mirrors with the camera positioned in a way where we saw Kelsey staring back at the camera through the mirror. With the microphone in her hand, she sang the first three lines into the mirror before she moved on...

Woke up from
What I thought was eternal bliss,
Noticed all warning signs once missed.
I can't hide how my heart, oh it aches from the pain,
I guess it's more fool me once again

As she finished singing the line "Noticed all warning signs once missed", Kelsey slowly turned around, now looking out towards those sitting directly in front of the staging in the stands. As we moved on, there was a camera shot from the front of the stage which was blurry - out of focus - and quite dark but as she continued to sing, the quality of the camera strengthened with it being a tactic to make sure that the viewers didn't see the first camera move off of the stage. As Kelsey sang the lyrics "oh it aches", she placed her hand on her heart with their being a quick close up of the camera quickly trailing up her body, stopping where her hand met her hand. Kelsey was bathed in blue light, especially from in front of her which gave the feel of the song a cold vibe which is the feeling that she wanted her audience to feel. White strobes from behind her. You'd also notice that naturally, the mirror on the microphone reflected the normal strobe lights with there being lens flare as we move from different camera shot to different. The lights did not change that much during the section and into the next.

As we move from the first verse to the pre-chorus, there was a bit more action used in Kelsey's gestures, so that she wasn't just singing with a microphone on the stage. There was a shot from the top of the stage which quickly made its way down. The white strobes that were behind her, along with the sound of the clicking of fingers, flickered which you could see perfectly well with the shot before. As Kelsey sang "wasn't true love", she made a heart sign with the microphone still in hand, before she started to twist and turn her body slightly as she felt the music take over her actions. Moving along with the sounds of the clicks, there was a series of close up shots of features of her body such as her eyes, her lips, her hair and even the ring that she wore on her finger. The audience, especially those behind the large stage object who had to rely on the screens in the arena, seeing what audiences at home could see, to get the Kelsey Banques experience, started to cheer as we moved closer to the memorable chorus of the song. For this part of the song, Kelsey Banques' facial expressions were mostly serious and almost hateful of some sort as she seemed to be not only angry with who she is singing about but also with herself.

What I felt, it wasn't true love,
I never felt I was enough,
You told me I'm paranoid
I know I wasn't, you fed me lies
And though I-

I know that I will recover
You know that I'll be stronger
You still try to tear me down, but
You've left indestructible

As Kelsey moved into the later stages of the pre-chorus, the cold blue lighting that was used slowly started to get lighter in colour, with the cold blue now becoming a lot lighter. She was still bathed in the lighting with the white flickering to the sound of claps but the mood of the song changed. There was a camera shot directly in front of her that she was looking at as she started singing "I know that..." with it being different to the first half of the pre-chorus after the series of close-up shots. As we moved outwards and over some members of the audience that were flying their flags from all over the multiverse - Britonisea, Darkmania, Ekoz, Besen, Malta Comino Gozo and beyond. Kelsey, for the first time during the performance, let out a small smirk which showed signs of happiness, adding to the changing mood of the performance. Suddenly, as there was silence in the music as we moved from the verse into the chorus with the only thing being heard is Kelsey alongside members of the audience singing "You've left me indestructible" with her as we moved into the chorus of the song. The blue light and white strobe was quickly turned off as the two separated LEDs on either side of the stage and the LED floor all turned white with there being a shot from further away to show this.

Kelsey dipped her head quickly forward with there being a motion blur effect being used in the camera that was switched to capture this moment, with it looking as though her flicking her hair and head forward looked like it was happening in slow motion when it actually wasn't. As we saw this happening, the next shot of Kelsey was when she was bathed in Eygptian golden yellow - a truly indestructible colour for Miss Kelsey Banques. As we explosively moved into the chorus, there was a shot
of Kelsey Banques from afar to the lyrics "I'm unbreakable" before another shot from afar was used with it quickly zooming into Kelsey as she looked deep into the camera beckoning as she sang "indestructible" with a camera from downstage to her left capturing her at the first "hoo" and her right side at the second "hoo".

I’m unbreakable, Indestructible (hoo-hoo)
Do your worst, try and tear me down at my strongest
I’ve climbed all hills and mountains,
I’ve reached the top on my own,
No one can tell me I can't cope alone.

As Kelsey sang "do you worst" a low angle shot was next on the camera with the camera zooming from low across her before moving outwards - up and over the audience before another shot of us zooming in on Kelsey Banques was shown and she was standing, again, looking deep into the camera. The facial expression that Kelsey had on her face was one of proudness and confidence as she looked up when singing "I've climbed", widening the stance that she had on the stage floor, with her free hand being curled into a fist before she delicately looked down to once again meet the camera once just as soon as she sang the words "on my own" before the golden light slowly eased back on the intensity as she completed singing the chorus. We could hear the backing singers slightly supporting Kelsey during the first chorus but they would be much more important throughout the rest of the song. As we moved into the next verse, there was a single second as the arena plummeted into darkness.

Only lit up by the projections which were shining on her face, Kelsey Banques opened her eyes as a camera watched her starting to sing the second verse. The projections were of text on her face with most of the text that was showing up were of the lyrics that she was singing with some of the lyrics such as "NO LONGER" and "YOU'D USED ME" and "I THANK YOU" in capital letters, much larger than the rest of the lyrics and with words such as "Indestructible" showing up on her stomach area where he skin was exposed. The projects were all the way down her leg which was captured a few times using the camera. During this section of the song as well, she did not have much changing in lighting with the scenery behind her being kept very dark, not giving anything away in terms of the mirrored wall behind her but there was a light to not completely have Kelsey in darkness while she sang the verse.

No longer (longer),
Do I see through rose-tinted glasses
I now know how much you'd used me
I thank you,
Though you think you had left me weak,
Actually it's the opposite

With the projection being used during this section, Kelsey couldn't move her body, despite her wanting to sway along to the beat of the chorus. She kept the strong stance she had before to help avoid her moving during this section. She also used her arms to interact with the song, pointing as she sang "You" or putting the back of her against her face as she sang the lyrics "you had left me weak." The cameras followed Kelsey round as she continued singing this section of the song. It felt as though this verse was very short and that is because it was. There was only one "stanza" of verse for this section and there wasn't a pre-chorus once again with the music producers saying that for the second chorus, the pre-chorus wouldn't make it as impactful as it should be - especially thinking about staging in mind when writing the song. She was nearing the end of the second verse before, on the projection did the word "INDESTRUCTIBLE" appear everywhere it could on her body, with it being in different languages such as the usual English, Spanish, French and even national languages of participating nations such as Britonish, Taploukki, Polkopian, Scotatrovan and many more languages as she sang the last line of the verse.

She moved back up to standing position once again, and the golden colours came in but specific lasers that were trained on the mirrored wall behind her were now blasted the each of the fragments on the LED wall slowly moving in circular motions along with the moving on these lasers which reflected broken prism lights and as it did, the audience cheered loudly with it being heard in the back of the song. She started moving her body once again, slowly bending her legs as she did. There was a shot of Kelsey from further away as we saw how large scale the reflections were, with her body being the only thing that blocked the rays of light passing through. She sang with more gusto than she did when beginning this chorus.

I’m unbreakable, Indestructible (hoo-hoo)
Do your worst, try and tear me down at my strongest
I’ve climbed all hills and mountains,
I’ve reached the top on my own,
No one can tell me I can't cope alone.

As she was singing the chorus, once again her facial expressions were of confidence. She seemed to be so engrossed into the performance and making sure that she was performing to the best of her ability. After the camera was used to focus on the new lighting rigs that were used for a while, giving the time for the audience to actually take in the use of the reflections, as she started on the line "I've climbed up hills and mountains", the tracking camera around the stage was trained on her, moving from one side of the main circular stage to the next, with Kelsey moving along with it and of course showing the beautiful light scene behind her. She quickly looked up before singing "I can't cope alone" with it seeming as though she going to sing the chorus once again with the end of the chorus as her volume and pitch slid back up before we went into the repeating of the chorus.

With her 90% volume, she looked up with the microphone around 15 centimetres away from her as she belted out "I'm unbreakable", before turning around, almost crouching down as she sang "Indestructible" for the nth time tonight. Her loose arm was tightly curled up into a ball while she tightly gripped the microphone with her other hand. As she, and the backing singers, sang "hoo-hoo", she quickly made her way back up into standing position with the colours of the lasers changing to the red before back to gold alongside the cameras changing at that sound too. With her singing, "take me on" and the rest of that line, she slightly moved forwards, holding her free arm outwards, before singing "I am brave!" purposefully prematurely before extending the word brave, adding her own spice to the song by ad-libbing and making the song her own.

I’m unbreakable, Indestructible (hoo-hoo)
I dare you, come and take me on if you are brave
I am brave! [ad lib]
I’ve swum through strong tsunamis
Reached the shore all in one piece

(Oooooh oh oh) Whatever you have got planned, I'm ready

We then moved into the bridge of the song, before a single spotlight of Kelsey was trained on her as the lasers were switched off and normal strobe lights too. Kelsey, at the start of the bridge, was blurred, with a Steadicam joining her on the stage, slowly circling around her. This was all done to fit the calm nature of the song during the verse. Kelsey wanted for this to be an intimate moment between her and the audience, and so when the lens moved in front of her, she would give it intense eye contact, singing as though she is telling everyone at home that yes, she does feel lonely and feels as though she can only trust herself. She looked sad, she looked in pain but as she sang "I'm the only...person and", the Steadicam operator ran off the stage before another joined Kelsey on the stage from a different angle as she now turned with the camera, moving until the audience was clearly behind her.

Yes, sometimes I do feel lonely,
And feel like time's moving slowly.
There's one person I can trust,
And it's me, just me, I'm the only...person and
(mmmm) Never have I ever felt like...
The whole world is on my side
(mmmm) I’ve reached the top all on my own,
You've left me indestructible

As the bridge section was being sung, haze started to fill up on the stage, with it being used for the first time in such magnitude during a Britonish performance at WorldVision. With Kelsey still having the audience in the background, the backing singers came in with the humming as Kelsey closed her eyes and slowly shaking her head from side to side, raising an eyebrow and she felt the song once again. As the song reached the point where she sang "top all on my own", the camera slowly faded to black with Kelsey turning around during this section by the time it got dark. The audience again could be heard during the moment of silence after cheeking Wiktoria 2016 smiling before going back into the chorus of the song.

And here she is once again at the chorus, with the lasers being used once again in a few colours, with the main colour being reflected being white. As the "hoo-hoos" were sung once again, she flicked her hair from one side to the next as the camera caught this from one shot to the next. Kelsey was continuing behind herself on the stage throughout this last bit of the song, with it being the home straight now. She felt as though this was her winning Vha Mehlodhivestoile performance; feeling very satisfied with the performance she had so far. It was time for her to give that last push...

I’m unbreakable, Indestructible (hoo-hoo)
I dare you, come and take me on if you are brave
No longer do I feel pain,
I've been hurting all my life
The life I lead before's my sacrifice

With there being a change of wording for the chorus she had just sung, it offered having the song not be as repetitive as it could have been using the same lyrics over and over again. The camera zoomed in on her face as she sang the line "The life I lead before's my sacrifice" as she placed her hand over her heart. The haze was working very well with the lights as well making the already darkish staging seem more mystical and magical, but also as she appeared amongst the haze, it made her look much grander and indestructible.

I’m invincible, Indestructible (hoo-hoo)
Do your worst, try and tear me down at my strongest
I have climbed [ad lib]
I’ve climbed all hills and mountains,
I’ve reached the top on my own,

She stopped before moving to the side (a la Sweden 2013 before the YOU scream but without the weird foot thing before), before elongating the note once again, adding her own spice through ad-libbing while Frida and Aaliyah came in with the strong vocals helping Kelsey carry the song out. The camera zoomed out as we saw her sing her final long note of the song with a lot of strength. It was now time for the final bit of the song with a camera being trained on the LED around the rising stage showing the words "NO ONE CAN TELL ME I CAN'T COPE ALONE" with the camera slowly panning upwards, meeting Kelsey Banques as she said that line to the progressing camera, smiling into it.

NO ONE CAN TELL ME I CAN'T COPE ALONE

As she sang the final note, there was one final shot of the stage from further away, but not too far with the audience being able to see Kelsey standing in the middle and the LEDs in the back and around the raised platform with the word, "Indestructible" plastered on every inch of the LED in a similar fashion to how it looked on her during the projection section. The audience came in with a humongous roar which took Kelsey by surprise.

Stefania: Wow! And that is why Britonisea won with such a HUGE points haul. Amazing job Kelsey. And now, I think it's time, yes! Let's find out the points of this year's WorldVision Song Contest! Juries, get ready to present your points.

Updated Voting Info for WorldVision 82 ONLY

POST YOUR 12,10,8-1 POINTS AS NORMAL, THEN, FOLLOW THESE RULES.

Following a public consultation on Discord, it has been decided that we will implement a televote component to this edition of the WorldVision Song Contest following strong support for it from the community. This will be exclusive to the 82nd WorldVision Song Contest (the future of this change will be up to the committee and community to decide together).

How it works
Each nation will rank the other nations out of 10. Each number below 5 adds a scaled negative score whereas each number above 5 adds a scaled positive score. The complete score of each nation will be the total sum of the positive and negative scores. At this point, any nation with a negative score or 0 will be considered to have 0 televote points (this is unlikely but possible). The rest of the nations with a positive score will have this score then multiplied until the total scores are equal to the amount of points distributed through the points on the IC thread (this from now is the IC "Juries"). This multiplied number will then be the televote score for each nation.

What this means for you
  • In addition to the standard 12-1 points that we all post on the IC thread (which remains the same) there will also be an additional requirement. Each contestant must also submit a response to a google form in which they will rate each song from 0-10 (out of a maximum of 10) - with 0 to a song which they hated and 10 to a song they loved (and everything in between).
    • Your votes must not be random - that is, if you give a song 12 points in the IC thread, you can then not score it lower than a song which you did not give points to, or ranking every single song the same, for example.
    • You can give your puppet a maximum of 6 out of 10 in the televote and vice-versa to the main nation. If you have a puppet you will have to submit a second set of televoting points - however, you can submit a single set of points and include the ranking for both your main nation and puppet nation in the same form. You must inform the host (me) if you wish to do this in advance.
  • If you do not submit a televote, you will receive a 25% penalty on your original televote score (which will then be redistributed among the rest of the nations according to their televoting score). It is strongly recommended that you submit a televote score so we can assess whether this change is good for the contest or a distraction.

What this means for the contest
  • The votes will thus at first be revealed as normal. The final jury scoreboard will be released, and upon this time the televoting portion will then start. The results of the televote will be revealed with the lowest televote scores revealed until the highest ones. We anticipate that this will add a new and exciting dimension to the contest, with nobody knowing who will win the contest until the very end (and people keeping scoreboards also unable to predict the winner eventually).
  • The televote will be presented as a single block of points. The results for each individual nation will be released after in the form of a google sheet document so all nation's can understand the individual breakdown of their results. The individual responses to the google form will also be shared with the committee to double check the results calculated by the host if they so wish or if a problem arises.
  • Because of the nature of calculating the televote (and the need to create appropriate graphics for it), the results may be delayed for an unspecified period of time however for this edition I endeavour to announce the full televote results systematically within 24 hours.

ETV1 presents WorldVision 82 - English language commentary by Cerin Erali and Flynn Taggart

Image

Image

21 - Placely Placington

*Flynn lets out an annoyed exhale with his face buried in his hands while Cerin cracks open a bottle of beer and starts to down it. Nothing else needs to be said, really*

22 - Kalosia

CE: It's good. I quite like it.
FT: Feels a bit empty, though.
CE: True but if you're in need for a song to satisfy your ears then this'll do an adequate job.

23 - Axuva

CE: So, after that deeply, deeply disappointing disqualification last time, Axuva bounced back and gave us, well, this.
FT: It feels like a mess.
CE: Yes but I'd say it's more of an organised mess. It's strewn about but you've got a clear idea of where everything is. Still a good song and could be lucky enough to get some points from us, however.

24 - Talvezout

FT: This feels like something out of my teenage years. Maybe early 20s.
CE: Not as keen on it as you are Fleen but if you like it then you like it.

25 - Nahlcomo

CE: Not as good as their lo-fi entry from last time, I'm afraid. Again, going back to the "mess" thing.

26 - Bayilan

CE: Again, it's not bad. Kind of good, even.
FT: But?
CE: But I don't really have high hopes. Don't see this finishing higher than mid-table but I really hope I get proved wrong here.

27 - Amuaplye

SADLY WITHDRAWN

28 - Nekoni

CE: So, the story goes that these guys had two versions of the same song and were tearing each other apart because they didn't know what to send. But the people of Nekoni stepped in and picked this one, just about. I liked this one and I liked the other version. Another top ten song from them, hopefully.

29 - Vartugia

FT: Sums up most of the WorldVision in all honesty.
CE: I wouldn't go that far. Probably twenty-something percent of it.
FT: Song's not even that good to make up for it.

30 - Besen

CE: And here's Besen, washing that disappointment out of our ears with this tune. Seriously, decent song. Again, probably won't win, but it should do well tonight.
FT: Not my sort of music but I'm still inclined to agree.

31 - Lochario

CE: This is clearly not a good song by any means but it's so fun and boppy that I just can't hate it.

32 - Proluvia

BLOODY HELL THERE'S BEEN A LOT OF WITHDRAWALS THIS COMPETITION, HASN'T THERE?

33 - Normandy and Picardy

CE: I really like this song. So sunny, so cheerful, again you just can't hate it. Really makes me smile. And I know you were trying to smile Fleen, don't give me any excuses.
FT: Except I was listening to the lyrics, so I do have one.

34 - Hafämarimët

CE: Took a little while for me to get into it but, now I have, I really like this. I think this could do well but I won't be surprised if it only finished in the middle. Still, I enjoyed it and that's what counts, if people enjoy it or not.

35 - Todlichebujoku

CE: It's an OK song. Feels a bit empty and I'll probably forget it a night or two from now but I will still bump it - and bump to it if I knew it was on.
FT: It'll probably win.

Good evening, buenas noches, Tiferet! Erev tov! That's probably not the right thing but I don't really know the lingo. Anyway, it's Nick J. Holland here and I've been tasked to give you the results of the Elejamian public - nay, the Elejamian jury! Five music industry people with a keen eye and ear and they know what they like. They've tallied their votes up and we'd like to give you their top ten songs. Before we get onto the big one which I can just announce, let's give the ones that I don't have to read out.

Image

Nicholas Holland, better known by his stage name Nick J. Holland*, television personality and singer best known for co-hosting the late night LGBT-themed variety show Saturgay Night from 1997 to its cancellation in 2001 and from its resurrection in 2017 onwards. He's also been the Elejamian spokesperson for WorldVisions 74 and 78 and will be their spokesperson from WV80-90 (unless I host at some point during that period).

* Much like the real life actor Michael J. Fox, the "J." in his name doesn't stand for anything, though in this case not only does he not have a middle name altogether but also he chose it because he thought the name "Nick J. Holland" had a nice ring to it.

  1. Mister X
  2. Scotatrova
  3. Axuva
  4. Nekoni
  5. Normandy and Picardy
  6. North Alezia
  7. Polkopia
  8. Izmedu
10. Malta Comino Gozo

So, after all of that, we finally reach the only set of points I have to read out. Our twelve points go to the one, the only, the incredible Birthe Right! Yes, doce puntos por Beepee! You've earned them! Thank you for a great contest Ertzei Kishim, Nick J. Holland signing off, have a great night everyone!
