Since we are the featured region today (January 10, 2020), it is a really good time to put up our recruitment and information thread!

A SPORTS REGION

Did you know that there is a region in NationStates that is devoted to real-world sports and sports gambling?
Well, there is one! The Sportsbook!

The Sportsbook is:

The only region in the game for real-world sports and sports gambling.
A young region created by well-respected former GCR Delegates.
An extremely active Discord server with conversations about all sports and the location of our sports games.
A Daily Newspaper (The Daily Line) - Read the latest news or write for us!
The place where you can bet on a sporting event almost every day in the poll area of the WFE.
A very active and friendly community with regular group events and voice chats.
As a new region you have the opportunity to shape the region and become a voice in the regional government.

Thanks! I've been running the sports and sports gambling rooms in a couple of GCRs for the past 3 years. I finally decided to go independent and form a region around it.

Spring Football has started, pitchers and catchers report next week, and for half the world it is winter.
But in Florida, horsepower rules!

The Sportsbook is ready for the metal monsters! We have not one, but two games to get you started!

First up is our Futures bet. Who will ultimately win the 2020 Monster Energy NASCAR Championship? You can pick from one of the top 29 drivers, or pick one bet with everyone else. After picking the winner for the entire year, we get down to this weekend's race, which is considered the most prestigious and important race in NASCAR. The Daytona 500! We are doing something a little different this year. Instead of having to pick the one winning driver, the driver you pick can finish either first, second, or third!

Bracket-Time!!!

Everyone loves March basketball, and we at The Sportsbook are no different!

We know you are going to make a bracket that will correctly pick all 63 of the tournament's games, so why not prove it against the rest of NationStates?

As we did last year, the March Madness game will be running on Yahoo Fantasy Sports, so make sure that you create an account or your old one is still active. There is one change though. This year you can create TWO BRACKETS. To join, just click on this link to enter our private group. To enter your second bracket, you will need our Group ID (5251) and the Group Password (thebook$410). The first Round of 64 game is on Thursday, March 19, so make sure your brackets are set before that date.

NASCAR Fantasy League!

The people demanded it, and The Sportsbook delivered!

After the success of our NASCAR Futures Game and the Daytona 500 Betting Pool, there was a groundswell of support asking for more NASCAR! Well, we are planning on having a Race Betting Pool at least once a month, but that wasn't enough. So, we started a NASCAR Fantasy League!

Before each race you get to pick 5 drivers, 1 Garage driver (who can be swapped into the race as it is happening), and special prop choices like the qualifying pole sitter, the winner of each stage, and the top manufacturer. You get points based on the positions at each break.

Get in on the racing action by joining The Sportsbook NASCAR League. The password is: thesportsbook%410 and you'll need to create a NASCAR account.

Virtual NFL Football!

Coronavirus might have shut down sports all over the world, but that can't stop The Sportsbook!

With all major and minor sports leagues closed down for the foreseeable future, gamblers are going stir-crazy. But we have a solution for you!

The Sportsbook has partnered with Strat-O-Matic to bring you a complete, game by game simulation of the 2018 NFL season! And of course, you can bet on the games!

We started on Tuesday the 17th with the Philadelphia Eagles beating the Atlanta Falcons by a 27-16 score. Tonight's game is Buffalo at Baltimore. Starting tomorrow, we will be doing two games a day to double our fun!

All games can be bet on in the Poll section of our WFE with a quarter by quarter replay of the game and general conversations posted in the #som-football channel on our Discord server. Games will take place at about 6pm EST. All game and league stats are posted in the Discord #som-football channel as well as a daily summary in The Daily Line.

We now have the Korean Baseball Organization!

Sports are coming back, and The Sportsbook has it all!

On Monday, the Korean Baseball Organization began it's regular season and The Sportsbook has the bets!
Ten teams throughout South Korea are playing exciting baseball and thanks to our Asian partners we have the game odds for you. Each day we are featuring another matchup for you to bet on.

This looks very interesting (to me, and probably many others who are mainly active in NS Sports)! My (main) nation is in Atlantian Oceania and I'm not moving it for IC purposes (there are a few big sports regions for RPs sake), how can I still get involved with you? I have puppets, but not a great discipline in keeping them alive...

We don't have a strict residency requirement like most regions (except to participate in government), although I hope people enjoy the place enough to at least place a puppet in there.

Everyone is welcome to take part in our Daily Bet Poll on the WFE. The standings are updated in The Daily Line, our newspaper.
You can also join our Discord server where we have discussions about all sports and where we host most of our games.

Now that Coronavirus is gone (or rather the sports leagues realized that they were losing too much money) SPORTS ARE BACK AND THE SPORTSBOOK HAS IT ALL!

We have lots of games ready to go! Right now we have the MLS-Is-Back betting game and of course our Daily Bet Poll on the WFE where we run a bet a day on all sports from Aussie Rules Football to Tennis and everything in between!

And don't forget our very active Discord server where we have the latest sports news and commentary. It's also the place where we run our long-term games.

Even better is that you don't have to be a resident to participate.

That's right! We are open to all players, regardless of your home region. Of course, you will benefit more by having a nation in The Sportsbook, but it is not a requirement.

Since most of the professional sports leagues have either started or are getting ready to start, The Sportsbook has multiple NEW betting games for you!

The Sportsbook has multiple NFL Games!

The Sportsbook began many years ago with an NFL Handicap Game. Over time we have expanded that to many games covering both the NFL and College Football.

First up is our annual Fantasy Football League. The league is open to all NationStates players! Draft your team and compete head-to-head against other players each week of the NFL season.

We are also running our regular NFL Survivor Game. In this game you pick one team to win their game in a given week. If your team loses, you are out of the game. The kicker here is that you can't pick the same team again for the rest of the season. As with the Fantasy Football League, this is open to all NationStates players, but you will need the password TSBS$2020 to join.

For both of those games, you will need a Yahoo account.

Other games which will be starting shortly are the NFL Handicap Game (on Discord) and our College Football Game (on Yahoo). Stay tuned to this thread for an announcement of when those games will start.

Remember, you don't have to be a resident to participate.
