It's worth noting that while Trump's allies hound Biden for the allegations, Trump himself has taken a more conciliatory tone, which is a strange thing to see. Quoting from Politico here;

Well, it wasn't an unreasonable allegation when Trump was launching an unreasonable investigation for blatantly partisan purposes like Trump did in his negotiations with Ukraine. But this is a different situation. For one thing, this is a purely domestic affair and doesn't involve bullying a foreign ally. Furthermore, rape is a different crime: more serious, but also harder to investigate. And finally this is something that many Democrats are concerned about and not just obviously phony scandal made up by Trump and his cronies out of the blue. But I think the investigation would better be treated as a bipartisan cooperation for the good of the country rather than a ploy to take down a political opponent. In fact, I think we need rape investigations against both Biden and Trump.
