Every few months seems kinda pointless though. At that point the vaccine is desperation and not a real solution.

At that point there is no solution.

Well the same problem exists with the flu, that's why you have to get a vaccine every year.

If people do remain immune after catching it, I still don't think we'd have herd immunity without a vaccine, but at least it wouldn't be quite so bad. Herd immunity without a vaccine would require like... 90%-ish (I think) of a population to catch and survive the disease, which would likely still add many more thousands to the death toll even if all were given full medical support.

I heard it was much less than that more like 60 or 70 percent.

We still don’t know how long the immunity lasts. If this becomes endemic, however, I wouldn’t be surprised if we have to get booster shots every 6 months to a year. We do it with the flu. *shrug*

The question is how Long.

Chicken pox immunity is generally for a lifetime. The cold Causing Variety of Corona virus is 2-4 months. SARS ( SARS Covid-1) is 2 years the question is what is the immunity time frame of this Corona virus ?

2-4 months and a vaccine is not worth it. We would have to wait for antivirals to work. 2 years could work though it would likely require decades of vaccination and re-vaccinations to get a global herd immunity and eradicate this.

That's true. Well, the thing is that once we have A vaccine, we can improve that vaccine as well. We can build on a canvas once we've made the canvas.

If you deploy it aggressively enough, you could eliminate it in certain areas, even if immunity is only for a couple of months. It won't be eliminated forever, but it could be used to prevent hotspots from worsening.

Or, you use it to protect the vulnerable. Require all who come into contact with vulnerable populations be vaccinated every couple of months.

Who doesn't have parents or grand parents though ? I think we could protect medical staff and the those elderly in care homes but not much further.

Care homes would be the main focus, because social distancing is very difficult there.

Hopefully even if the vaccinations only last four months or so for immunity a massive, free and mandatory (except for those who are unable to, obviously) roll-out of vaccinations might be able to eradicate the virus in a way similar to smallpox.

That might be asking a bit much though.

It's unfortunate that the lifting of protective measures is likely to make those places in a rush to 'get back to work as a nation' those who will have the longest lasting and most economically damaging effects. Not to mention the massive body count, although a disturbing number of people don't seem to even consider that in the calculations.

Some parishes have seen rises in cases, in Louisiana, but it seems our latest spike of 700 cases in one day was due to positive cases being released from a backlog of several weeks. I imagine state-testing is to blame.
