The Ceryan pound was originally introduced in July 1926 as the Noulese pound. The Noulese pound replaced the pound sterling as legal tender in Noulese, as the colonial administration sought to adopt a decimalised currency. It was adopted at GBP £1 = CYP £3. It was managed and administered by the Noules Colonial Board of the Commissioner of Currency (CBCC), while printing was left to the Bank of Noules and a select number of commercial banks in Hertford. Subsequently, the Noulese pound was adopted as legal tender by other Ceryan colonies: East Beira in May 1929 and Indaya in January 1933.
When Hertford abandoned the pound sterling and made the Noulese pound the sole legal tender in East Beira in December 1935, the currency was officially renamed to the Ceryan pound. The management and administration of the currency was transferred to the newly established Ceryan Pound Board (CPB), an intergovernmental agency arising out of an agreement between the Hertfordian and Noulese colonial authorities. Unlike the CBCC, the CPB was responsible for printing the currency and no other banks were permitted to print the currency.
The Ceryan pound was subsequently adopted as sole legal tender in Clermont-des-Indes when it was carved out as a Crown colony from Hertford in July 1947. Following the independence of Ceryana, the Ceryan Pound Board was transferred to the new federal government in May 1949 and became the sole legal tender of the federation. The colonial governments of East Beira and Clermont-des-Indes adopted the Ceryan pound, now under the administration of the Ceryan federal government, as sole legal tender.
Following their secession to independent Ceryana, the Ceryan pound replaced the Tebainese franc in Ceraine and Tebain in June 1955, and in Haut-Tebain in September 1966.
