 Hearthbury Highs closer to new stadium by Jon Burhawk A funding pledge from Mayor of Hearthbury High, Mark du Foxhold on the proposed new sports and entertainment precinct in Hearthbury High represents a huge step forward for plans for a new home ground for the Hearthbury Highs, according to Hearthbury Highs Chairperson Richie Constantineau. Mayor du Foxhold pledged $150 million in funding towards the total cost of the $210 million projects should his government be re-elected at the upcoming City of Hearthbury High election. The Stadium and Sports Arena Centre would become the new home of the Hearthbury Highs who are currently domiciled at 4th Lane Stadium, some 17 kilometers out of the city center. Hearthbury Highs co-captain Igor Krepanovic has been one of the most high-profile advocates of the new development and Constantineau said that support for the project from both sides of parties is vital for the long-term future of the Hearthbury Highs. The unilateral political support for the move was also welcomed by the Springmont Super League (SSL). SSL CEO Dr. Russel Konbert Deyfrose toured the proposed Majestic River site in April and said the new complex would be a boon not just for the Hearthbury Highs but the entire Hearthbury High community. "The SSL has pushed strongly for a new stadium in Hearthbury High," he said. Dr. Deyfrose said the SSL would continue to hold discussions with the State, Federal and Local Governments on the best ways to progress the stadium project. Other News

South Winbridge FC is preparing for the future by using talented young local players by Aiton Feria By the end of the third season, the South Winbridge team will begin training next month. Most players are retained and only the addition of one local player and 3 new import players will join the team. But what most fans don't realize is that South Winbridge is preparing for the future by using talented young local players from every position. Jim Scotson, 22, will be a key goalkeeper and will compete with Sam Jeh, 19. Both are fortunate to play alongside Salton Kingbury and coached by legendary Lincoln Relyea. On the defensive line, South Winbridge has Alan Matsumoto, 21 and Dominic Wingstrom, 22. Although young, they have vast experience both internationally and locally. Mark Fjetland, 22, Ramon Lamb, 19, and Franco de Gil, 18, will lead the center. Fjetland acts as the defending midfielder and Lamb is the attacking midfielder and de Gil will be South Winbridge's top planner. With three of these best midfielders, South Winbridge's front line led by Denis Rayo, 23, and Andrew Relyea, 22 will be easier and the chances of scoring will be higher. It Double for Basilsome Athletic by Alan Capebilling Basilsome Athletic have confirmed their status as the 'king' of local football when they emerge as the Springmont FA Cup champions for second time after easily defeating Shipbrough FC 1-0 in the final at Esthampton Citypark tonight. The fierce opposition from Shipbrough FC over defending champion Basilsome Athletic was clearly not materializing when it was fully controlled by Bernie Stanton's men. In the match, which saw 22,378 spectators, Stanton was betting the best squad led by team leader Jerrold Watkins and their current top scorer Igor Parax. Basilsome Athletic, the FA Cup-winner of the last edition, is unbeatable and is in its own class when dominating the game since the opening whistle. Nestor Darkclouds: Montian young wizard by Aiton Feria There is no denying that many young players in the country are beginning to make their mark on the game and, perhaps, take Montian football to a higher level one day. Among the many talented youngsters who have shone in local football include the likes of Ian Delaplane, Arnold Matsumoto, Franc deLibassaire, and Marco Krepanovic. Now, add Stavaberg Youth midfielder Nestor Darkclouds, 13, to that illustrious list. Darkclouds, who hails from Port Aldbridge, even captained the national Under-15 last year. The well-built Darkclouds announced his arrival on the big stage when he scored a goal for Stavaberg Youth FC in last year’s Springmont IronHope League (Youth) at his debut against Cordwell Univ. FC. “When we look at him and the runs he makes, either with or without the ball, it’s like he’s always got a plan in mind,” Stavaberg Youth manager Jim Holkenbergh told Swordtooth Standard today. “It’s hard to find a youngster who seems so much at ease playing against bigger and more experienced opponents. I’m proud to have such a brave youngster like him who never hesitates to make decisions on the pitch,” he added. Unlike other national Under-15 players who received wide exposure by training at the National Youth Footballer Academy (NYFA) in Ogdenaire, Darkclouds honed his skills while studying at the East Region Sports School in Newriver. But that hasn’t stopped him from developing his game to such an extent that even coach Holkenbergh can’t stop praising him for his high-level of IQ (intelligence quotient). “Not only does he have a sturdy physique and the ability to make sprints, but he also has a high IQ. Just look at his style of play, he can dictate the game, think on his feet, and make good use of the ball. “He also loves to make runs from the deep to close down space and steal the ball from his opponents.
