ANL Season 31 - Season Review

Tolgus Tregajorran staggers up to the top of the hill outside Exton, rain spattering against his bloodstained face. In one hand he holds a revolver, in the other the battered ANL trophy. Uttering a gutteral roar, he thrusts it up to the sky amongst the deluge, screaming "FUCK YOU GODS"

The Astograthian Football League
Season 682 Review

The 37th season of the Astograthian Football League is now concluded.

First Division

And what a thrilling season it was. Iturributa United and Urbizania Wanderers seized the lead early on, defying expectations, with Athletic Club Olarria, Royal Rumiatzi and Sporting Iturributa in tow. Sporting, who had seemed so confident of winning their second title in a row, were letting the lead slip when a run of derby victories got them back in the race, first beating United 3-1 and a weak later earning a 1-0 victory over Royal Rumiatzi, Laurnagaray scoring from the penalty spot. They'd go on to draw with Blue Mountain Range and Athletic Club Rumiatzi, lose 1-0 to Echegoyan FC and 3-0 to Ituraitz FC. By that point, a third of the season in, Wanderers held a 3-point lead over United and were savouring a Jê Çìró-inspired 3-2 comeback win over Ituraitz FC. They were in for a rude awakening at Silanes Park, as Echegoyan FC ran them over 3 goals to nil; one matchday later, they were humbled at home by Sporting Iturributa and their skillful Audioslavian playmaker Ximun Blacksdove-Beukers. Past the midway point of the season, crowned by a 1-0 away win over Royal Rumiatzi, Iturributa United had seized a strong lead thanks to the goalscoring prowess of Yokin Arana and Hitzeder Lizalde, fueled by midfield workhorses Beltza Urkizo and Unax Alchourron.

Sporting, not to be outdone by their rivals, came barrelling back with a run of 8 straight wins to snatch the lead, only to lose it shortly after to Urbizania Wanderers. Sporting's performances became irregular: handily beating Athletic Club Olarria, Ituraitz FC and Iturributa United, but losing to Gortz United, Royal Rumiatzi and Blue Mountain Range. The race narrowed as it entered the final month of competition, with Wanderers suffering defeats to Olarria, Ituraitz and United, the latter becoming title contenders again: with 4 matches to go, the Iturributans were equal on points and Wanderers 1 point ahead. Sporting complicated their chances by drawing with Garitzeta Racing, but bounced back with a 3-2 win over Wanderers. United squandered their 2-point lead by losing at Gortz United, handing Sporting the lead on head-to-head results over Wanderers. All Sporting needed was a home win against Bakartirla Buccaneers on the final matchday, and they delivered: goals from Gaitzka Gurina, Xabier Eskerra and Egoitz Laurnagaray rounded out the 3-0 victory and earned the club their 5th First Division title. A harder fought season than last year's title, but it was yet another showing of technical brilliance and mental fortitude from manager Zorion Legeren and his squad, definitely more than the sum of their parts. Gaitzka Gurina, the team's 24 year-old defensive midfielder, emerged as one of the league's best players: a defensive, creative, and goalscoring force all in one.

Wanderers, who had been expected to have a transitional season as Eriz Bakaikoa imprinted his style over previous manager's Tzemeno Baxterrika, blew away spectators by mounting an impressive challenge. Letting the league slip at the very end, in that 2-3 loss at Old City Stadium, was a harsh blow, but they'll be back next year stronger than ever. Any doubts as to the fitness of the veteran Jê Çìró were annihilated as he had his best season in Astograthian football, consistently being the team's most important factor in attack. He picks up his second Player of the Season award, and is named the best left winger in the league for a 6th time.

The theories that the Iturributan teams will pull each other to success no matter what seem to have been proven true once again. Despite critics and bookies rating their chances well below those of their 4 title rivals, Iturributa United were capable of battling for the championship and had it in their grasp. If not for that 1-2 loss to Gortz United, they would've carried a 2-point lead to the end and won the First Division. Alas, that late goal from Gasteiz Legaza, along with the ire of seeing Sporting win titles, may yet spur them further.

Royal Rumiatzi had, for their standards and aspirations, a disappointing season. Always just outside the title picture, they ended up having to fight off Echegoyan FC and Athletic Club Olarria from IFCF qualification. Manager Louis Vaudrail will not continue after this year - and it's quite the achievement that he managed to finish the season on the job. This could partly be attributed to the brilliant performance of Yasone Urdanibia and his whopping 27 goals, accounting for more than a third of Royal Rumiatzi's total. This included five in a single match in the 9-0 drubbing of cross-town rivals Athletic Club Rumiatzi - the most lopsided Rumiatzi Derby in modern football, and which bought Vaudrail his job till the end of the season. Urdanibia, 31 years old and now 6-time top scorer, confirms his reputation as the finest Astograthian striker of his generation.

Below the international places, Athletic Club Olarria put on a stunning season. Just 3 points off toppling Royal Rumiatzi for a place in the Challengers' Cup, Olarria were very quick in gelling with new boss Ikatz Alberro. Despite slumping toward the middle of the season, this was their best ever in terms of points, and gives them every reason to dream big. Echegoyan FC, meanwhile, have equalled their points from the 675 season, when they finished in 3rd place. Though not yet back to being title contenders, reliably making the Top 6 is an important breakthrough.

7th may seem harsh for an Ituraitz FC that has gone through a manager change, fields a squad that many feel is not up to snuff, and yet did not play significantly worse than last season - yet dropped two places. Going into the pre-season, the board are unsure about what to do with manager Abdoulaye Bocandé - one camp believes he deserves more time, the other that they should cut their losses and get a big name. With the new availability of Louis Vaudrail and the opening of the Astograthian league to the international market, this second camp may seem the more tantalising choice.

Antiguoko FC once again achieved 8th place, bumping their points record to 59 in the process, and are positively delighted at this newfound top-half stability. Their 21 year-old striker Olentzaro Karazatorre has emerged as not just a potent attacking force, scoring 15 goals, but as one of the brightest prospects in the country, as his Young Player of the Season award goes to show. Royal Ibarbe in 9th again managed one of their best seasons ever, despite having lost their manager Bocandé and several important players. Further down, 10th through 13th places were separated by just two points. Sporting Arkamo continued their trend of reliability, achieving another solid mid-table season, and Basabe Old Boys likewise impressed, having just returned from the Second Division. Blue Mountain Range had yet another year of long balls and technical fouls, which earned them a respectable 12th, and Gortz United in 13th had one of the wildest seasons in First Division history. Completely winless in their first 9 matches, Gortz sacked manager Tartalo Maruri and brought in Piarres Erke, who lost his first match before, at long last, earning them a point via a scoreless draw with Athletic Club Rumiatzi. From there, Gortz gradually picked up steam, putting together a 14-5-8 record in their remaining 27 matches to comfortably escape the relegation battle, beat Sporting Iturributa at home and even deny Iturributa United the title.

In 14th, Astograth University are still not happy but at least relieved that relegation was not on the cards, considering the pre-season prospects. Bakartirla Buccaneers, Ituraitz Victory and Gesterlake FC were separated by one point. The first two, content not to be relegated; the latter, frustrated that they couldn't be like Basabe Old Boys on their triumphant return from the second tier. A mid-season sacking, replacing Kimetz Obonaga with Baladi Berhongaray, at least took them out of the bottom of the table. For the three relegated clubs, this formula didn't quite work. All three were stuck in the relegation spots for the entirety of the second half of the season. Possibly the worst humiliated of the three was Athletic Club Rumiatzi, suffering a 0-9 home loss to Royal Rumiatzi that they'll never live down.

FAF Awards

In the traditional awards ceremony held at Rumiatzi’s Kraitzaga Theatre at the season’s conclusion, the Futbol Astograthiko Federazioa presented the following awards. The Elmsvikur Trophy for the three best goals of the season, as voted by fans, and in honor of the league’s all-time top scorer Ellis Elmsvikur, is a new introduction. Second Division

A new team will début in the First Division next season, and as champions of the second tier too. Urbitzo FC, hailing from the Oyardo-Urbitzo conurbation on the eastern end of Lake Anzar, have long been outshone by their neighbours Oyardo FC, but no longer! Joining them will be Royal Association of Iturributa, who have played for 19 seasons in the First Division already, and Miners FC of Echegoyan, who scored in extra-time of the promotion playoff final. The losers, third-placed Sporting Ibarguren, came the closest they've ever been to joining the top flight, but will at least console themselves with the LBCT appearance that their league finish entitles them to.

Second Division B

The Second Division B saw an extremely tight finish in its West Group, with San Markez of Olarria - founded by Sargossans - winning the group by a single point. The East Group was dominated by teams from Iturributa province, who won the three top places. In the promotion playoffs and championship final, which pit East against West, the latter came out the winners of every tie, San Markez scoring twice in extra time to take the title into their début Second Division season, while Army United and Nabarrieta FC left the East Group with a single promoted team.

Astograthian Development League – Honours Division

The newly-formed Astograthian Development League, a joint FAF-Ministry of Sport venture, pits U21 teams across the nation in round-robin action. The inaugural Honours Division, composed of the 16 best-ranked academies at the time of the league's formation, has been won by Urbizania Wanderers. Blue Mountain Range's second place goes to show they're actually quite good at nurturing young talent.

The Royal Cup

One-legged ties. First and Second Division teams enter at the Round of 64, and the former are seeded for that and the following round. If clubs have a two-tier difference or greater, the lower-tier team will play at home.

Eagles FC 1–4 Athletic Club Rumiatzi

Ituraitz Victory 0–1 Letzama FC
Urbitzo FC 1–7 Sporting Iturributa
Basabe Old Boys 2–0 Mars Athletic
Athletic Club Olarria 3–0 Uertza FC

5 of the 20 First Division teams were surprisingly eliminated in the Round of 64. Defending champions Iturributa United, fielding a third-string side while caught up in the battle for the First Division lead, lost by one goal at the home of the non-league Baretza Olympic, in what was the round's most shocking result. The second-tier Sporting Olarria took Royal Ibarbe to penalties and won a tight shootout, followed by Bizkarra Castle and Erramuayari FC both scoring in extra time to eliminate Gesterlake FC and Garitzeta Racing, respectively. Letzama FC even pulled off their 1-0 upset playing away, at an Ituraitz Victory troubled with relegation. Sporting Iturributa, for their part, had no trouble dismantling the eventual Second Division champions Urbitzo FC 7-1, away.

Round of 32 (select matches)
Royal Association 3–1 Bakartirla Buccaneers
Sporting Iturributa 1–1 Iturributa Racing Club (2–1 AET)
Erribe United 0–2 Athletic Club Olarria
Basabe Old Boys 4–2 Sporting Olarria

Echegoyan FC 1–0 Langaraitz Rovers
Warrior Spirits 2–1 Royal Rumiatzi
Sporting Arkamo 1–0 Letzama FC
Miners FC 0–1 Blue Mountain Range
Ximun Orieta FC 1–2 Urbizania Wanderers

The Round of 32 presented more trouble for the ostensible First Division favourites. In an even matchup, Royal Association put 3 past Bakartirla Buccaneers, while one-time cup winners Sporting Ibarguren eliminated Antiguoko FC. The minnows of Goyardeliz United took Athletic Rumiatzi all the way to extra-time, where they lost 3-2, and Urbizania Wanderers were put through their paces by an unruly Ximun Orieta FC. There was another shocking result as Royal Rumiatzi, not having learned from United's mistakes, fielded an understrength side that lost 2-1 to Warrior Spirits of Garranka, an otherwise insignificant club. Some say this was the moment Louis Vaudrail sealed his move away from Royal Rumiatzi, but he'd at least last till the end of the season.

Round of 16
Old City Central 1–3 Urbizania Wanderers
Sporting Ibarguren 1–3 Athletic Club Olarria
Royal Arexa 3–2 Gortz United
Basabe Old Boys 2–3 Echegoyan FC
Royal Association 2–1 Ituraitz FC
Warrior Spirits 3–2 Blue Mountain Range
Astograth University 0–3 Sporting Iturributa
Athletic Club Rumiatzi 1–1 Sporting Arkamo (1–1 AET) (7–6 pen.)

Warrior Spirits again stunned the nation by making their home in Garranka a fortress, scoring 3 (!) goals on the ultra-defensive Blue Mountain Range to knock them out of the Royal Cup. Alas, another trophyless season for BMR. Ituraitz FC had woes of their own, as on top of their disappointing First Division performances they took a Round of 16 exit to Royal Association.

Quarterfinals
Athletic Club Olarria 2–1 Athletic Club Rumiatzi
Warrior Spirits 1–2 Echegoyan FC
Urbizania Wanderers 1–1 Sporting Iturributa (1–2 AET)
Royal Arexa 4–0 Royal Association

Echegoyan FC, with goals by Emenon Ulibarri and Imanol Bethularan, were in charge of finally cutting short Warrior Spirits' incredible run. At North Point Stadium, Athletic Olarria's Olentzaro Anseotori made the difference in their matchup against Athletic Rumiatzi, and at Goyaingerua, Royal Arexa put on one of their best performances of the season to see off Royal Association 4-0, thereby eliminating all sides not from the First Division. The round's marquee match was played at Cherketzo Arena, pitting Urbizania Wanderers against Sporting Iturributa. Goals from Ixaka Echeberz and Egoitz Laurnagaray took it to extra-time, where Laurnagaray scored his second to take Sporting to the semifinals.

Semifinals
Sporting Iturributa 4–1 Athletic Club Olarria
Royal Arexa 2–2 Echegoyan FC (3–2 AET)

The semifinals were a show of contrasts. Despite being the more evenly matched tie, Sporting Iturributa breezed past Athletic Club Olarria even while competing for the First Division title, with Ximun Blacksdove-Beukers opening the scoring for the Chevrons and setting up two others. At Goyaingerua, on the other hand, the beleaguered Royal Arexa, already all but relegated, took the fancied Echegoyan FC to extra-time thanks to a super-sub performance from Tartalo Martierena, and it was Echegoyan's former player Yasone Riz who sentenced the match in the 103rd minute.

The Final
@ Grand Duke's Stadium, Rumiatzi

This was Royal Arexa's third Royal Cup final, and their first since winning it in 647, 35 years ago. Sporting Iturributa had last made the final in 676 and 675, losing both. Their last win came in 642, exactly 40 years ago, before the succession crisis that led to Iturributan independence. One team came to the final having just won their second league title in a row, the other came to the final off the back of a miserable season that saw them finish bottom of that same table.

Sporting's Zorion Legeren lined up with his usual 4-2-3-1, while Aintza Lekea formed up with something more defensive than his usual style, a deep 4-1-4-1. Arexa's plan was to challenge Sporting in the midfield, but the ageing Naya Urchegia and Pachi Zelay proved no match for Sporting's nimble midfielders and precision passing; Urtatz Kelarrayan was Arexa's only consistent outlet. Denying their opponents the ball, Sporting Iturributa were content to pass it around their own half, baiting Arexa into moving out of position - but Arexa didn't take it, seemingly content to grind out a penalty shootout. In the second half, Sporting took the initiative and came out aggressively, subbing in striker Xantalen Gastambide to morph into a 4-4-2 diamond formation. Sure enough, in the 54th minute a shot by Laurnagaray was blocked by centre-back Gurucharri, and the rebound headed by Blacksdove-Beuker to the feet of Gastambide, just inside the box. Cutting inside, he unleashed a shot that keeper Ibarrola couldn't reach. Forced to get a goal, Arexa drove forward as Sporting reverted to depriving them of the ball and being selective with their chances. To Arexa's credit, they denied Sporting a second, third and fourth goals, but on attack were limited to set-pieces - for which Sporting's defense are, as a rule, supremely prepared. When the whistle blew, the Iturributans won their first Royal Cup in 4 decades and their first Astograthian double, the 5th team to achieve such a feat. Next season they'll take part in 3 international competitions, and Zorion Legeren will face his greatest challenge yet dealing with that calendar.

Astograth (ASG) final site host bid
Rushmore Copa de Campeones: Grand Duke's Stadium, Rumiatzi. 90,000 all-seater ground.

Grand Duke's Stadium is the largest venue in Astograth, and the crown jewel of its sporting infrastructure. The main arena, as well as the surrounding complex, serves as the home for a wide variety of Olympic sports. In association football, it is the home ground of the Astograthian national football team and hosts the annual finals of the Royal Cup, the Second Division promotion playoffs, and the Second Division B championship game. It has previously hosted the final of World Cup 62, the 48th Cup of Harmony, two Baptisms of Fire, Copa Rushmori VII, the final of the 21st Copa de Campeones, and the 45th UICA Champions’ Cup final. To once again host the Copa de Campeones would be a fitting reintroduction for Astograthian football to Rushmore and the world at large.

MATCHDAY ONE

De Commons 3 - 0 Wilaamstad Wrijgers
Stadion De Commons, De Commons (Attendance: 9,239)
Kickoff: 12:00, 09 Jan 285 | Sunny, 9 celsius
Referee: Adriaan Tynkeur | Player of the Match: Lizett Aucs (De Commons)
---
‘4 Wera Pauwelz, ‘62 Brituni Kindvanstefan, ‘79 Lizett Aucs

---

The opening day of the LegaSaari is one of the premier days in the Sari sporting calendar, and this year did not disappoint. Per tradition, reigning champions De Commons hosted the opening match of the season and showed just why they’re favourites to retain their title. Wera Pauwelz opened the scoring within five minutes, guiding a shot into the corner of the net after a crowded six-yard box left Wilaamstad Wrijgers keeper Csaen Ziumun blind. Pauwelz was unlucky not to add her second just seconds later - Jodi Lauri, making his De Commons debut, won the ball back straight from kick-off and played a clinical ball forward into Pauwelz’s path. Ziumun was quick off his line, however, and managed to make himself big enough to direct Pauwelz’s shot wide. The rest of the first half was a surprisingly even affair, given the match was placing the champions of last season against the last placed team. De Commons found their gear in the second half, however, and the visitors will be counting themselves lucky that their defeat was kept to just three goals: Lizett Aucs led the rut, setting up Brituni Kindvanstefan for De Volken Tiem’s second before powering in a free-kick from thirty yards to seal the victory. It was an expected victory for the champions, but that should take nothing away from a team who have traditionally struggled on the opening day of the season.

Pingstrand FC 2 - 3 Tocigtuon Taun
De Arineu Aanhetstrand, Wilaamstad (Attendance: 7,069)
Kickoff: 14:00, 09 Jan 285 | Sunny, 7 celsius
Referee: Yasmyn Alteneur | Player of the Match: Tsaalie Pajn (Tocigtuon Taun)
---
‘33 Anghi Matheus ‘35 Lie Bruux | '44 Tsaalie Pajn ‘72 Ghini Bondstad ‘83 Tsaalie Pajn (pen)

---

Pingstrand broke their streak of last place finishes last season, but were unable to keep hold of a two goal lead at home to Tocigtuon Taun. After a quiet start, Anghi Matheus headed in Pingstrand’s opener from a Lie Bruux corner. Just two minutes later, it was Bruux’s turn to score - going on a magnificent solo run before squaring it to Daryn Asselman. Asselman’s effort was stopped by the outstretched arm of Lex Horn but Bruux was there to hit in the rebound. Going two goals behind seemed to wake Tocigtuon up, and within ten minutes they had pegged one back through Tsaalie Pajn to go into the break just one behind. The second half was completely dominated by The Razmataz, though it wasn’t until the seventy-second minute that they finally drew level: Ghini Bondstad, who had been applying pressure all game, rounded Krysten Roeburts with a cheeky nutmeg before confidently tucking it past Darijun Fervers into the left-hand corner. Pingstrand weren’t looking to give up easily, however, but a solid performance from Lex Horn kept shots from the likes of Bruux, Daryn Asselman and Nicau Noriuz out. It was eventually a penalty which settled the matter - Wylfod Klein was clumsily brought down in the box by Franc Kindvanjan, who had come on as a substitute just a moment before. Pajn skillfully converted, and Tocigtuon ran out as deserved winners.

Tucanviul Tijgers 2 - 1 Bondstad Treason
Stadion van de Oerwoud, Tucanviul (Attendance: 15,199)
Kickoff: 16:00, 09 Jan 285 | Sunny, 7 celsius
Referee: Nelson Kindvanwilaam | Player of the Match: Criuzi Siwaad (Tucanviul Tijgers)
---
‘29 Lach Houten ‘66 Criuzi Siwaad | '90+3 Lonau Puotnaam

---

Bondstad Treason had high hopes for their season, but a disappointing performance away at the Tucanviul Tijgers has led some fans to, perhaps prematurely, wonder aloud if they had over-hyped their chances. This should take nothing away from a first class Tijgers performance - who tactically neutralised all of Treason’s big assets. Leading the way for the Tijgers was Criuzi Siwaad in defence, who skillfully kept Hilario Nadir and Sjors Koken out of the game for large swathes of play. Aside from a strong defensive play, the team were clinical in the counter attack - one notable moment saw Aydan Klei dispossess Koken, play a quick pass to Tiubi Jacobse who crossed it to Luci Berenhaad on the left hand side. Berenhaad had no want for space to threaten the megre remnants of the Treason defence, and used her time on the ball to find a completely unmarked Lach Houten who converted easily. The Tijgers kept up their tactical approach and, with the notable exception of a Zej Saari shot which forced a goal-line clearance from Ceutiz Maazden, managed to keep Treason muted. Indeed, no-one was particularly shocked when they added their second - a Siwaad header from a powerfully delivered Tiubi Jacobse freekick. Treason managed to grab a consolation goal deep into stoppage time - a neat effort by Lonau Puotnaam after the Tucanviul defence were caught uncharteristically napping - but it was the Tijgers fans who will be going home happiest.

Tiugz FC 0 - 1 CF Bondstad
De Huisgrond, Bondstad (Attendance: 5,993)
Kickoff: 18:00, 09 Jan 285 | Cloudy, 6 celsius
Referee: Luuc Vaan | Player of the Match: Moerius Kindvandoenaulld (Tiugz FC)

'63 Maeri Beniut

Tiugz can be somewhat of a bogey team for the more talented side - their skill in defense neutralising an opponent's ability to attack convincingly. For a side like CF Bondstad, used to being allowed to play free-flowing games, this can cause a problem. Indeed, the Citizens have lost or drawn five out of their last six matches against the side. And for much of the game, it looked like they would fall to the same curse. Crispin Galloway, a new signing from Chatswood in the Nepharim Premiership, began to endear himself to the home fans by putting in a fine first-half performance alongside De Huisgrond stalwart Moerius Kindvandoenaulld. Indeed, they put in such a fine performance that it was sixty-three minutes before Fajtz Ajeuesh saw a shot on goal. Unfortunately for Tiugz, it was an absolute beauty: Stela Killam dropped deap to pick up a forward pass from Gaath Zlin, exchanging a quick one-two with Luc Bisop she rounded Kindvandoenaulld before chipping it to Maeri Beniut on the right. Beniut took touch to bring it inside the box before curling it into the bottom left hand-corner and sending the away fans into raptures. Tiugz quickened up their own game - they had managed just two shots on goal themselves at this point - and were nearly punished with a second Bondstad goal: a Bisop effort which required Ajeuesh to make a finger-tip save to turn it onto the crossbar. In the end, it was Tiugz lack of an attack capable of competing in the upper-echelons of the Lega which sunk them and a CF Bondstad side that went home delighted at slaughtering one of their daemons from last season.

MATCHDAY TWO

Wilaamstad Wrijgers 0 – 2 CF Bondstad
Stadion Wrijgers, Wilaamstad (Attendance: 19,530)
Kickoff: 15:00, 15 Jan 285 | Cloudy, 5 celsius
Referee: Luuc Vaan | Player of the Match: Csaen Ziumun (Wilaamstad Wrijgers)

'38 Majori Aldar ‘52 Luc Bisop

---

Sure they might be a team that everyone loves to hate but CF Bondstad don’t always make it easy for us. Away at Wilaamstad was one of those days, the team putting in a vintage performance to silence even the most partisan of critics. Indeed, if it were not for a similarly brilliant performance for Csaen Ziumun in the Warriors goal De Stadion Wrijgers could have been the place of a sporting massacre. It was former Warriors man, Luc Bisop, who headlined the Bondstad performance - setting up an early chance for Majori Aldar which took a deflection before being parried over by Ziumun. Bisop nearly got a goal of his own with a diving header after Ziumun tipped a cross into his path, but acrobatics from the keeper kept the scores level. With Bondstad averaging around 65% of the possession, it was only a matter of time until the deadlock was broken and it was a bit of magic from Maeri Beniut that was the cause. Taking it past three Wilaamstad players, she squared it back to Majori Aldar who had the simple job of tapping it into the bottom corner. Bondstad were on a high, and could have added several more in quick succession, but a series of increasingly wonderful saves kept Wilaamstad behind by only a respectable single goal margin going into half-time. Bondstad didn’t relent going into the second half, however, and soon got their second. Beniut again made a snaking run around the Wilaamstad defence, but an outstretched Bonita Braziggtuon brought her down to award Bondstad a penalty. Luc Bisop stepped up and sent Ziumun the wrong way to double the Bondstad lead. Bondstad seemed to take their foot off the pedal a little after getting their second goal, giving Wilaamstad their first - and ultimately only - shot on target, a beautiful through-ball from Adell Alba which set Cnut Zumer one-on-one with Citizen’s keeper, Gerlinde Fabiuon. Gerlinde seemed beaten but managed to scramble back to hook it clear after getting a hand to reduce the power from the shot. It was a save which perhaps out-shone her opposing number, Csaen Ziumun, in a game in which he was awarded the Player of the Match award.

Bondstad Treason 2 – 0 Tiugz FC
De Stadionnational, Bondstad (Attendance: 33,773)
Kickoff: 17:00, 15 Jan 285 | Cloudy, 4 celsius
Referee: Adriaan Tynkeur | Player of the Match: Zej Saari (Bondstad Treason)
---
‘65 Walt Beunaad ‘73 Hilario Nadir

---

Tiugz hopes of once again qualifying for the Playoffs, and international football, took another setback after they were thoroughly outclassed by Bondstad Treason at De Stadionnational. Treason, who were far from their best, finished the game with nearly 70% of possession and without allowing the visitors a single shot on target. Normally a direct team, De Jonge Broers, looked comfortable passing the ball in a tactic to wear the proactive Tiugz defence out. It was clearly a successful scheme - a quiet first sixty minutes, alighted only by a few speculative long-shots from Sjors Koken and Zej Saari was followed by half an hour of a relentless Treason attack. The pick of the action resulted in the first goal of the game - Treason, who had retained possession uninterrupted for over three minutes were passing the ball rather aimlessly around three-fifths of the way up the pitch and suddenly picked up a gear. Saari chipped the ball forward to Hilario Nadir, who was de-possessed by Moerius Kindvandoenaulld. Kindvandoenaulld couldn’t command the ball however, leading Lonau Puotnaam to swipe in to get it back to Nadir. Nadir played a couple of quick passes with Koken to split open the Tiugz defence before splaying it left to Walt Beunaad, on the edge of the box. Beunaad cut inside and powerfully placed it into the bottom left-hand corner to cap a wonderful move. Just eight minutes later, Treason would have a second - Nadir and Koken once again exchanging a number of quick passes to beat an increasingly tired Tiugz defence. Nadir’’s initial shot hit the post, but the rebound - a scruffy effort that came off his lower shin as much as his foot - bobbled over the line. Bondstad were unlucky not to add a third to receive the bonus point in the dying minutes: a Sjors Koken header from a great Beunaad run was scrambled clear by Tiugz’s Crispin Galloway but in the end they went away with a good, tactical victory which showcased the side’s versatility.

Tocigtuon Taun 1 – 1 Tucanviul Tijgers
Grajsstraat, Tocigtuon (Attendance: 12,512)
Kickoff: 15:00, 16 Jan 285 | Overcast, 6 celsius
Referee: Jodi Nagaal | Player of the Match: Dora Tolar (Tocigtuon Taun)
---
‘82 Melizeur Timerman | '3 Mohammad Islam

---

Tocigtuon Taun and Tucanviul Tijgers are two sides with similar ambitions, which should point toward an exciting match-up. Sadly, the Grajsstraat encounter failed to live up to expectations, with neither side able to find their gear. The first five minutes gave on-lookers false hope: the Tigers getting a goal in just three minutes - a half volley from Mohammad Islam after Peri Steen made a poor clearence after a Tigers corner. For a few minutes, Tocigtuon looked money-on to get a goal back - producing two good efforts in as many minutes. The first saw Tsaalie Pajn go on a magnificent solo run only for Diemer Hajwuud to fire the resulting shot over the bar. The resulting goal-kick saw Cseralen Zwarte embarrassingly feed the ball to Ghini Bondstad, though she managed to recover well to knock the shot wide with an outstretched foot. And from then on, the game fell into a rather tiresome rutt. Neither side managed to attack with any intensity or particular purpose: Tucanviul looked happy to sit back on their lead and Tocigtuon looked too timid to attempt to break-through the Tigers’ high defensive line, lest they be caught on the counter-attack. This left a game with few excitements. Tocigtuon eventually got an equaliser, just ten minutes from full-time - a simple tap in from Melizeur Timerman after a scramble in the box. Those hoping this could lead to a high-tempo finish were sadly mistaken - both sides seemed content with a draw leaving the final score at one goal a piece.

De Commons 6 – 2 Pingstrand FC
Stadion De Commons, De Commons (Attendance: 10,180)
Kickoff: 17:00, 16 Jan 285 | Overcast, 6 celsius
Referee: Yasmyn Alteneur | Player of the Match: Wictor Bull (De Commons)
---
‘8 Zej Zamuuol ‘13 Wictor Buul ‘26 Wera Pauwelz ‘39 Winona Tolbert ‘64 Jodi Lauri ‘81 Wictor Bull | '20 Lie Bruux (pen) ‘78 Daryn Asselman

---

There was no absence of excitement when Pingstrand travelled to Stadion De Commons, in a game which saw free-flowing football from both sides. De Commons went two goals up within just fifteen minutes, banishing the constant criticism that they take time to settle into a match. Both goals came as a result of corners; the first saw Zej Zamuuol tower above everyone to direct a powerful header past Darijun Fervers, who never saw it coming. The second was much more special, Diemer Haum tapped the corner short to Wictor Buul who took one touch before curling it into the net. De Commons continued to up the pressure - coming close on a number of occasions but it was Pingstrand who got the next goal. Seizing on an uncharacteristically sloppy pass from Jodi Lauri, the side built from the back into a quick counter-attack leaving them with four attackers versus just two Commons defenders. A number of unnecessary passes seemed to take the momentum out of the attack, and it looked like the moment had passed when Trent Kindvanbruux clumsily clattered into the back of Daryn Asselman after running the full length of the field to assist in the defense. It was a clear penalty, and was dutifully converted by former De Commons man, Lie Bruux. The goal didn’t phase De Volken Tiem, however, and they dutifully restored their two goal lead within minutes - a well worked team effort that was converted by Wera Pauwelz. Pauwelz was instrumental in the next goal for her side - after receiving a Janna Gerrard cross with her back to goal, she passed it back to Winona Tolbert. Darijun Fervers was far off his line, going after Pauwelz, to be in any position to stop it. De Commons added a fifth through a Jodi Lauri free-kick. Pingstrand got some relief when Kindvanbruux got a second yellow card, and the side were able to capitalise through substitute Daryn Asselman. Wictor Buul rounded out the action, getting his second - and De Commons sixth - with an effort from thirty-five yards to round off a great afternoon of football.

MATCHDAY THREE

Pingstrand FC 1 – 0 Wilaamstad Wrijgers - ABANDONED ‘85
De Arineu Aanhetstrand, Wilaamstad (Attendance: 7,111)
Kickoff: 15:00, 22 Jan 285 | Heavy Rain, -2 celsius
Referee: Luuc Vaan | Player of the Match: Adell Alba (Wilaamstad Wrijgers)
---
‘48 Lie Bruux

---

After a goal-filled encounter last week, Pingstrand fans could be excused for anticipating another game of exciting football. Sadly, it was one of those days where little turned out as planned. The teams ‘family day’ to attract fans to the stadium worked a little too well, leaving the side turning more supporters away than were ultimately seated in De Arineu Aanhetstrand. Then the rain came. Heavily. In such muddy conditions, it was hard for either side to find any sort of rhythm and the farce was perhaps best shown when Wilaamstad’s Dani Vultuon fell flat on her face when presented with a chance the striker usually would have gobbled up. The teams went into half-time tied and muddy. The break was extended by nearly thirty minutes as the match officials inspected the increasingly waterlogged pitch. The two sides eventually re-emerged, and Pingstrand promptly scored the only goal of the match - a Lie Bruux forty-yard free-kick after Pajtuun Hejtaueu came in late. With eighty-five minutes played, the game was called off - but with a minimum number of minutes played, the result will still stand.

Tucanviul Tijgers 0 – 0 De Commons
Stadion van de Oerwoud, Tucanviul (Attendance: 14,848)
Kickoff: 17:00, 22 Jan 285 | Heavy Rain, 1 celsius
Referee: Ron Elmitt | Player of the Match: Oodel Duoztiun (De Commons)
---

---

Heavy rain also affected the Tucanviul Tijgers hosting De Commons - though the inland Tucanviul was less impacted than the coastal Pingstrand neighbourhood. Nevertheless, the conditions forced both teams to play in less comfortable set-ups than they’re used to. De Commons were perhaps the strongest team, but were unable to convert their dominance into any clear cut chances. Briutni Kindvanstefan, leading the attack in place of the rested Wera Pauwelz, came closest on a number of occasions but a mixture of weather, bad luck and good goalkeeping left the side wanting. Tucanviul, too, had their fair share of chances but Oodel Duoztiun was in characteristically good form to deny the Tigers an opening. Aside from the inability to defeat a team that they should on paper, De Commons will be worried after Edwina Strijd hobbled off in the closing minutes of the game after slipping in mud - although the injury didn’t look too serious, the side has big games upcoming against Tiugz and CF Bondstad.

Tiugz FC 1 – 1 Tocigtuon Taun
De Huisgrond, Bondstad (Attendance: 6,001)
Kickoff: 15:00, 23 Jan 285 | Rain, -3 celsius
Referee: Adriaan Tynkeur | Player of the Match: Jennigje Houte (Tocigtuon Taun)
---
‘80 Lieo Rygbi | '27 Wylfod Klein

---

Tiugz continued their shaky start to the season with a draw at home to Tocigtuon. The side, which has seemingly failed to settle since the departure of Zej Zamuuol at the end of last season, was atypical disjointed throughout and Tocigtuon will be kicking themselves that they couldn’t get more out of the game. The first signs of danger came straight out of kick-off, Ghini Bondstad being found by a ball that cut through the usually stellar Tiugz defence which forced Fajtz Ajeuesh into a save. Tocigtuon would keep up the pressure for the next twenty minutes - though both Bondstad and Wylfod Klein were looking off-peak in-front of goal, keeping Ajeuesh’s gloves relatively clean. Nevertheless, the Tiugz defence which is the shining feature of the team kept on being breached, and it was only a matter of time before The Razzmatazz took the lead. Nineteen year old Mati Kolen provided the inspiration - taking the ball passed past both Randoel Raedmaeceu and Crispin Galloway in a way that should be impossible against two of the best defensive players in the division. A tap back to Bondstad should have resulted in a goal, but when Klein hit the rebound decisively into the net that didn’t matter. Tiugz responded well to going a goal behind, and created a number of chances - Lieo Rygbi missed a sitter after having the ball squared to him by Alv Meuseu and a Moerius Kindvandoenaulld header from a free-kick shook the goal after hitting the crossbar. As the rain which plagued the previous day’s matches began to fall heavier, Tiugz began to lose a bit of steam and it was Tocigtuon who were back in control - Tsaalie Pajn had an effort ruled out for off-side and Wilaam Kindvanjohan had a cheeky thirty yard lob stopped by a Galloway goal-line clearance. So it was against the grain that Tiugz finally got their equalizer - a well placed shot from Rygbi after Peri Steen missed the interception. Tocigtuon put everything into trying to snatch a last-gasp winner, but the Tiugz defence finally found its usual efficacy to ensure that the scores remained level.

CF Bondstad 2 – 1 Bondstad Treason
De Stadionnational, Bondstad (Attendance: 49,763)
Kickoff: 17:00, 23 Jan 285 | Sleet, -5 celsius
Referee: Egbert Haaglander | Player of the Match: Judi Buren (Bondstad Treason)
---
‘33 Cserize Apeldoorn ‘74 Luc Bisop (pen) | '2 Sjors Koken

---

As the two teams continue to converge in quality, the Bondstad Derby becomes a more and more anticipated fixture in the Sari sporting calendar. Across the city, fans sit and hope that they’ll be the ones with bragging rights at work the next morning whilst the size of De Stadionnational, the national stadium which is shared by the the two sides, means that the fixture is able to attract audiences unseen in the rest of the LegaSaari. Treason kicked off, and were almost immediately ahead: Hilario Nadir played the ball left to Lonau Puotnaam who took it easily past a CF side who hadn’t yet woken up. The initial cross was headed away by Henri Brejzun but the follow-up resulted in a wonderful Sjors Koken scissor-kick which rippled the net and gave Treason the lead. CF looked shell-shocked, but strangely Treason didn’t press the advantage preferring to move the ball around the mid-pitch without any attacking purpose. A sloppy exchange between Izajeu Nej and Zej Saari gave CF their way back into the match - Maeri Beniut pounced on the ownerless ball and had squared it to Stela Killam before Treason had a chance to react. Treason’s Nepharan-born keeper, Besart Schankelen managed to make himself big to force a corner, which resulted in a Cserize Apeldoorn equaliser for The Citizens. The rest of the match was relatively balanced - both sides created a number of chances which excited the bumper crowd. Tansi Kindvanjodi, for CF Bondstad, and Judi Buren, for Treason, particularly impressed - carving out space on the wings from which to control their respective team’s attacks. It was slightly disappointing, therefore, that the CF Bondstad winner would come in the way of controversy. Luc Bisop went down far too easily in the box, in what replays showed to have been a fairly obvious dive, which saw veteran Treason defender Bruux Ziebruux sent off. Bisop took the penalty himself, and nestled it into the top corner. To Treason’s credit, they tried to rally to get back into the game. However, in what was previously a tight encounter, the one player deficit really cost them. Sjors Koken and Nadir both had chances, but an inability to cast more players forward - lest the side get caught on the counter-attack - meant they could be outnumbered by a CF Bondstad side happy to protect their league. The final score reflected the prevailing truth about football in the capital: CF Bondstad are perhaps the better side, but they are also bastards.

MATCHDAY FOUR

Wilaamstad Wrijgers 2 – 2 Bondstad Treason
Stadion Wrijgers, Wilaamstad (Attendance: 17,526)
Kickoff: 15:00, 29 Jan 285 | Cloudy, 4 celsius
Referee: Ron Elmitt | Player of the Match: Adell Alba (Wilaamstad Wrijgers)
---
‘40 Hylda Dafyd ‘77 Adell Alba | '28 Ela Klerken ‘61 Epi Koemanz

---

Wilaamstad finished last for the first time in their history last season, and the first three games of the season haven’t filled their fans with much hope that this season wouldn’t be the second time. However, they will be hoping that their vibrant display at De Stadion Wrijgers could provide a catalyst to turn the season around. There was clearly something different in the Warriors team which hadn’t been seen thus far, they moved the ball confidently and kept Treason on the backfoot for most of the first half-hour. Though the chances were numerous, Besart Schankelen in the Treason goal was up-to the challenge - proactively dealing with threats in the manner of a sweeper-keeper. It was against the run of grain, then, when Treason took the first goal. A fine team effort saw passes exchanged between Zej Saari, Geri Rietdekker and Walt Beunaad before Ela Klerken muscled Adell Alba out of the way to coolly convert. Despite falling behind, Wilaamstad continued to be the better side - though by no means dominating - and were unlucky not to equalise after a decisive counter-attack which saw Chaz Mueldeur’s shot just nick wide after taking a slight deflection from Csaen Ziumun outspread shin. It took an indirect freekick - a footballing rarity - for Wilaamstad to finally get their goal. Epi Koemanz was judged to have back-passed to Ziumun leading to the absurdity of half-a-dozen Treason players having to stand on their own goal-line to be regulation distance from the ball. Somehow Hylda Dafyd managed to find a gap after being lightly tapped the ball by Cnut Zumer to send the sides into half-time deadlocked. Bram Ituun must have said something to his team at half-time, because Treason came out the much better side and dominated for much of the half - first having a Hilario Nadir goal controversially ruled out for a perceived elbow to Zie Held’s face before Epi Koemanz slided the ball home after a scramble in the six yard box. Treason continued to push, looking for a third goal to put the game to bed, and came close on a number of occasions: Ziumun made a good save off Judi Buren and also somehow managed to get a hand on a Zej Saari shot which ricocheted through a crowded penalty box. Wilaamstad did manage to hold their own, however, and were rewarded with an equaliser when Adell Alba converted from the edge of the box after being tapped the ball from a Nadir freekick. Overall, both teams will feel the draw was a fair reflection of the match - though Bondstad Treason’s expectations of a title challenge will be quickly fading if they can’t stop dropping points.

Tocigtuon Taun 0 – 1 CF Bondstad
Grajsstraat, Tocigtuon (Attendance: 12,657)
Kickoff: 17:00, 29 Jan 285 | Cloudy, 4 celsius
Referee: Luuc Vaan | Player of the Match: Luc Bisop (CF Bondstad)

Part of the eternal frustration of CF Bondstad is that the side has an uncanny ability to turn a poor performance into a victory. Unfortunately for Tocigtuon Taun, this was one of those times. To be fair to Bondstad, they did manage a number of chances throughout the match - but few carried any real potency - Stela Killam was far from her best and looked lost at times, splaying a few good balls - largely provided by the excellent Luc Bisop - wide and over. The biggest miss of the day, however, had to go to Maeri Beniut who did all the work in rounding Lex Horn only to tap the ball so weakly that Dora Tolar had time to come back and slide it clear. Tocigtuon were also flaccid going forward, though the failure mainly came from a failure to find chances: Bondstad employed a high defensive line which proved difficult for the homeside to break down, though Wylfod Klein perhaps could have done better when a scuffed clearance provided him with an open half-volley. Bondstad did get their goal, in the seventy-eighth minute, a Piteur Jong cross went untracked by everyone and somehow managed to sneak its way into the bottom left hand-corner. It was a mixed bag for Bondstad - on one hand, if they’re going to retake the title they need to be able to win even when they aren’t at their best. On the other hand, they weren’t at their best - an ominous sign when De Commons are their next opponents.

De Commons 3 – 1 Tiugz FC
Stadion De Commons, De Commons (Attendance: 10,200)
Kickoff: 15:00, 30 Jan 285 | Windy, 0 celsius
Referee: Adriaan Tynkeur | Player of the Match: Moerius Kindvandoenaulld (Tiugz FC)

---

The Tiugz playbook is very simple. Defend, try and get a goal out of nothing and defend. And to be fair to them, it generally works quite well. The first seventy minutes of their fixture against De Commons showed it at its best, the final twenty minutes showed the limitations. It took thirty minutes for either side to get a shot on target: De Commons failed to break through an impenetrable Tiugz defensive line - spearheaded by the brilliant duo of Crispin Galloway and Moerius Kindvandoenaulld whilst Tiugz didn’t feel the need to risk venturing forward against a technically able De Commons side. The game did pick up a little toward the end of the first half - though this was mostly due to an increasingly frustrated Volken Tiem taking long-shots which got fans out of their seats but did little to test Fajtz Ajeuesh in the Tiugz goal. Tiugz then got their trademark goal out of nowhere, an aimless long ball forward was poorly dealt with by Edwina Strijd. Alv Meuseu pounced on the chance and slipped it into the net before De Commons realised they were in trouble. To be fair to the De Commons defence, they had been spectators for over fifty minutes of football but even so it was a sloppy piece of football from the national champions. Tiugz kept their defensive wall going for the next twenty minutes, but when Lizett Aucs chipped Galloway to feed the ball to Briutni Kindvanstefan, it all started to fall apart. Galloway made a rash challenge which saw the Nepharan defender given a straight red card. Fajtz Ajeuesh managed to punch away the Jodi Lauri freekick - but only onto the waiting head of Jaxon Pieuz. With Tiugz a man down, De Commons finally had space to build attacks and a second goal soon followed. Kindvanstefan played a simple one-two with Wera Pauwelz before slotting the ball underneath Ajeuesh’s body. Kindvanstefan could have had a second within minutes, if it were not for an inch-perfect slide tackle from Randoel Raedmaeceu to dispossess her as she opened up her body for a shot which would have caught the Tiugz keeper off of her line. Instead, it would be Winona Tolbert who completed the scoring - a fine effort from the right side of the box which cannoned into the left hand top corner. De Commons were made to work for it, but they saw the opportunity to take control of the match and took it with both hands.

Pingstrand FC 2 – 2 Tucanviul Tijgers
De Arineu Aanhetstrand, Wilaamstad (Attendance: 6,782)
Kickoff: 17:00, 30 Jan 285 | Heavy wind, -3 celsius

Pingstrand have a reputation for starting a game in a positive, free-flowing way and then getting tired and losing. Indeed, part of their revival in the second half of last season came from their apparent ability to break the curse. Sadly, it seemed to re-emerge as they hosted Tucanviul Tijgers. Within twenty minutes, Pingstrand had taken a two goal lead - and looked very good for it. The first goal came from Daryn Asselman, although Cinda Grooffz did most of the work controlling an overworked pass and skipping past Ceutiz Maazden before squaring it to Asselman who placed it in an empty net. Grooffz was also instrumental in the second goal - dispossessing Tiubi Jacobse before launching a diagonal ball forward to Lie Bruux. Bruux held the ball up long enough for Asselman to make his way to the Tijgers box - the initial effort was saved, but Asselman managed to convert the rebound. If it were not for Asselman seeking his hattrick, Pingstrand might’ve got a third: a smart ball by Nicau Noriuz put Asselman through, and he arguably should have tucked it back to the unmarked Caliguleur Hybeurt instead of attempting to sneak it into the corner. It would prove crucial - there was never a concrete turning point but the Tijgers slowly took control of the game. The first chink in the Pingstrand armour came via Luci Berenhaad - a beautiful chip over Darijun Fervers. Pingstrand kept up the fight, but tired legs from the manic first half meant the team's attacks missed that certain extra level. Indeed, when Tucanviul launched a rather meek counter-attack which provided the equalizer Pingstrand looked powerless to stop it. Pingstrand managed to hold onto the draw, but any side would feel deflated having dropped points in a game in which they led two-nil within twenty minutes.

MATCHDAY FIVE

Bondstad Treason 4 – 2 Tocigtuon Taun
De Stadionnational, Bondstad (Attendance: 30,622)
Kickoff: 15:00, 05 Feb 285 | Sunny, 15 celsius
Referee: Egbert Haaglander | Player of the Match: Hilario Nadir (Bondstad Treason)

The sun was shining and the goals were flowing as Bondstad hosted Tocigtuon in a free-flowing game that was more balanced than the score-line suggests. Tocigtuon got the first goal of the game, after just over ten minutes of play - a poor clearance by Kameron Bondstad allowed Jennigje Houte to play Wylfod Klein through, who expertly tucked it into the goal. Treason almost went two behind moments later after a miscommunication almost saw Epi Koemanz put the ball in her own net. De Jonge Broers did eventually settle into the game, however, and ushered in a period box-to-box which saw many chances but neither side were able to get a goal. In part, this was due to an excellent performance by both goalkeepers - an odd statement to write in a game which ultimately saw six goals scored. Going into the second half, relying on the goalkeepers proved to be untenable and the goals finally started flowing. Hilario Nadir scored two in quick succession - one with both feet to put his side ahead before Zej Saari teed up Sjors Koken to make it 3-1. Tocigtuon got one back through Aliuz Kapitein, and the good money would have been on them getting an equaliser. Indeed, they would have done so if it were not for a series of four saves by Besart Schankelen. A free-kick by Lonau Puotnaam deep into stoppage time sealed the win for Treason, and leaving a score-line which Tocigtuon fans will correctly be asserting doesn’t reflect the reality of a close game.

Tucanviul Tijgers 4 – 0 Wilaamstad Wrijgers
Stadion van de Oerwoud, Tucanviul (Attendance: 14, 367)

Less close was Tucanviul’s demolition of Wilaamstad. Tucanviul dominated throughout, with the stand-out statistic that they had thirty-three attempts on the Wilaamstad goal, compared to the Warriors managing just one successful shot on target. Surprisingly, therefore, it was Wilaamstad that started off the better team - getting their only shot on target in after twelve minutes; albeit a tame effort from Chaz Mueldeur which was easily handled by Cseralen Zwarte. And then the Tucanviul Tijgers pounced. Chance after chance was fired at the Wilaamstad goal. Three hit the crossbar, many went wide, and a good few were saved by Csaen Ziumun - a better keeper than the goals against column would suggest. But with enough domination, and enough chances, a good few were always going to go in. Lach Houten opened the scoring after half an hour, and added his second just after the break. Byrun Kindvancameurun was rewarded for his hard work with a goal, and he popped up again to assist Houten for his third. It was a complete, if slightly inefficient, performance by Tucanviul which saw them move into third place in the standings.

Tiugz FC 4 – 1 Pingstrand FC
De Huisgrond, Bondstad (Attendance: 5,912)

Last season, Tiugz scored just eleven goals in the fourteen game regular season so fans were witnessing something special at De Huisgrond as they hit four past Pingstand. Most of the games action took place in an action-packed first half - Erna Ootiz opened the scoring on twenty-three minutes with a good, long-ranged effort before Lieo Rygbi added a second just minutes later after Pingstrand left a wide-open gap in their defence. Pingstrand made the odd tactical choice to set-up as if they were to counter, but the patient passing regime - with many players behind the ball- employed by Tiugz made this a queer choice. Tiugz added their third on the stroke of half-time: a Cwiuntun Romeijnders effort from the edge of the box with ricocheted off the underside of the crossbar on it’s way into the goal. Pingstrand pulled one back with an excellent Lie Bruux free-kick, helping to cement his reputation as one of the nation’s finest set-piece takers but an own-goal from Anghi Matheus moments later sucked away any of the momentum which could have been generated by the goal. Pingstrand saw very little of the ball in the closing twenty-minutes, leaving Tiugz with a rare-blowout victory.

CF Bondstad 1 – 0 De Commons
De Stadionnational, Bondstad (Attendance: 50,031)
Kickoff: 17:00, 06 Feb 285 | Sunny, 14 celsius
Referee: Jodi Nagaal | Player of the Match: Maeri Beniut (CF Bondstad)

A capacity crowd turned-out to see CF Bondstad at home against De Commons, in what is the most hotly-anticipated clash of every LegaSaari season. With the crowd on their back, CF Bondstad started the most lively and had several good opportunities on the De Commons goal. The best probably came from Maeri Beniut, who nutmegged Edwina Strijd and Jaxon Pieuz before her looping shot was saved by Oodel Duoztiun. De Commons did settle into the game, and will feel unlucky to have not drawn ahead after Wera Pauwelz broke the Bondstad line and caught Gerlinde Fabiuon in an inoptune position, only to scuff the eventual shot. The game was relatively stalemated until Bondstad were awarded a penalty at the hour mark. A searching direct pass from Luc Bisop curled over the heads of the De Commons defence - Strijd came dashing in to try and stop Killam, but her tackle arrived after he had already off-loaded the ball. Strijd was sent off, although De Commons were given some absolution when Oodel Duoztiun saved Stela Killam’s penalty to keep the scores level. Against two similar teams, the advantage of an extra player is amplified and CF Bondstad seemingly vowed to make sure De Volken Tiem knew it. Employing a much more direct manner, Bondstad were a constant presence in the De Commons penalty area - forcing a number of excellent saves from Oodel Duotzin, as well as a standout defensive performance by Zej Zamuuol. Eventually, however, the home side did manage to break through - Majori Aldar seized on a Duotzin parry to slide the ball into the net. Bondstad continued to press their advantage in the hunt for a second goal but were unable to convert. Regardless, the side will have little to complain about having now taken the driving seat in the race for first place.

MATCHDAY SIX

Wilaamstad Wrijgers 2 – 1 Tocigtuon Taun
Stadion Wrijgers, Wilaamstad (Attendance: 19,618)
Kickoff: 15:00, 12 Feb 285 | Rain, 12 celsius
Referee: Luuc Vaan | Player of the Match: Bonita Braziggtuon (Wilaamstad Wrijgers)

Tocigtuon were looking confident as they lined-up in Wilaamstad, but the old adage that the pride goeth before the fall decided to rear its ugly head. Playing an expansive game, Tocigtuon were clearly trying to take advantage of the notoriously leaky Wrijgers defense on the hunt for bonus points - and they did get their fair share of chances, which they failed to take advantage of - but the strategy left them vulnerable to the Wilaamstad attack. Tocigtuon’s tactics seemed to play off in the first half - they got a goal mid-way-through, a team effort eventually converted by Ghini Bondstad. There was no air of anything changing as the teams took to the field a second time, but Wilaamstad were clearly instructed to press where Tocigtuon made themselves vulnerable. The result was a much more exciting game - both sets of strikers had a number of chances but it was Wilaamstad’s Dani Vultuon who got the first goal of the half. This should have been an indication for Tocigtuon to maybe change course, but instead they doubled down. For fifteen minutes they relentlessly attacked the Wilaamstad goal, but an inability to score led to this going nowhere. And when a sloppy Ghini Bondstad pass in the final-third was intercepted by Bonita Braziggtuon, Wilaamstad took the most of the opportunity to punish Tocigtuon’s disorganised line and tired legs. With a long ball forward, Braziggtuon picked out Adell Alba who quickly off-loaded it to Cnut Zumer on the left. Zumer cut inside, and tricked Lex Horn with a feigned shot before converting. It was a wonderful goal which left Tocigtuon’s faces a brighter shade of pink than their jerseys. Tocigtuon did attempt to get back in the game, playing closer to their usual style but Wilaamstad were able to weather a late storm to take an important victory.

De Commons 4 – 2 Bondstad Treason
Stadion De Commons, De Commons (Attendance: 10,220)

After defeat against CF Bondstad, De Commons hosted Bondstad Treason with something to prove - and they looked more than up for it. De Volken Tiem were straight out of the gates, piling pressure on with an attack from kick-off - a Jodi Lauri effort that was guided over by Treason keeper, Besart Schankelen. The resulting corner resulted in another corner, and that corner gave De Commons the lead. The initial cross-in was battered away, but Lizett Aucs was at the edge of the box and powered it into the Treason goal on the half-volley. Treason recovered from the early shock, and it was they who got the second goal of the game - Sjors Koken musceling his way past the De Commons defence before converting. But make no mistake, De Commons fully exhibited the disparity in quality between themselves and a team often considered the ‘next big team’. De Commons attacks were perhaps infrequent, but were highly potent: Wera Pauwelz put the side back ahead before extending the lead - both with one touch efforts after the ball was guided to her feat by the superb Volken Tiem midfield. Wictor Buul completed the scoring for De Commons with a freekick from the edge of the box, before Walt Beunaad got a consolation goal for Treason in the final minutes of the game.

Pingstrand FC 2 – 5 CF Bondstad
De Arineu Aanhetstrand, Wilaamstad (Attendance: 7,110)
Kickoff: 15:00, 13 Feb 285 | Rain, 9 celsius

CF Bondstad were looking buyant after their victory last week, so would’ve perhaps felt their bubble burst after Pingstrand managed to take the lead within ten minutes. To be fair, it was an odd goal: Nicau Noriuz played a ball forward that just kept going until it inextricably bounced over Gerlinde Fabiuon and into the net. Bondstad are a good team, however, and looked relatively calm in their belief that they would be able to turn the result around. This faith was well-placed when the side scored three goals in a fifteen minutes interval - Majori Aldar got the first, a header from a Tansi Kindvanjodi cross, before Piteur Jong popped up to tap home an unclaimed ball in the box. Aldar got her second - a cheeky back-heel after the initial shot was saved by Darijun Fervers to put The Citizens firmly in control of the game. Bondstad kept up the pressure going into the second half, and were soon rewarded with a fourth goal - Kindvanjodi hitting a snapshot after being fed in by Iola Rogevien. Pingstrand did manage to find a second goal - a penalty after Gervajs Tzop handled the ball in the box, but never looked at risk of making a dent in Bondstad’s dominance. Substitute Wictor Balveur added a final goal for Bondstad - giving them a bonus point which could be crucial at the end of the season.

Tucanviul Tijgers 0 – 2 Tiugz FC

Traditionally, whenever one of the ‘four Ts’ - Treason, Tocigtuon, Tiugz and Tucanviul - play each other it has been built as a match that could make or break each side's playoff hopes. Whilst that might be some shrewd advertising, as we draw close to mid-season the adage seemed oddly appropriate. Both teams have had mixed seasons thus-far but both sets of fans will be hoping that blowout victories last week could provide the catalyst for an amazing season. Sadly, in facing each other, that could only be true for one side and it was Tiugz that went home triumphant. A large part of this was due to their usual mastery of tactics: defend, play it safe and seize on any mistakes by opponents to get a goal. Sunday’s game was a masterclass - Tucanviul were not allowed near the Tiugz goal for much of the match - resorting to cheap shots from distance that never threatened Fajtz Ajeuesh. Both of Tiugz’s goals came from their ability to seize on opponents' mistakes. The first came after sixty-five minutes, an overcooked pass forward allowed Moerius Kindvandoenaulld to seize on the ball and play Bruux Porter a fantastic ball. Porter took a couple of touches to hold up for a Kajli Kindvanjens run to be picked up with a diagonal ball. Two touches and it was in the net. The second came when the usually stellar Criuzi Siwaad back-passed to Cseralen Zwarte without even a cursory look at her surroundings. Lieo Rygbi made the easy interception, took it past Zwarte and tapped it into the net for a real poachers goal. If they hype around these fixtures are to be believed, it could be the goal that propels Tiugz into the play-offs for the second consecutive season.

MATCHDAY SEVEN

Tiugz FC 4 – 2 Wilaamstad Wrijgers
De Huisgrond, Bondstad (Attendance: 5,860)
Kickoff: 15:00, 19 Feb 285 | Heavy wind, 7 celsius
Referee: Jodi Nagaal | Player of the Match: Randoel Raedmaeceu (Tiugz FC)

‘12 Crispin Galloway ‘15 Lieo Rygbi ‘33 Erna Ootiz ‘38 Randoel Raedmaeceu | '71 Cnut Zumer ‘88 Hylda Dafyd

---

Defeating Wilaamstad 4-2 means that Tiugz have scored one less goal in their last three games than the entirety of last season. Perhaps the biggest peculiarity from that stat is that they haven’t changed the way they’ve played - they employed their typical, awe-inspiring high defensive line and approached the Wilaamstad game just as cautiously as usual. Indeed, by usual measures Wilaamstad did well against Tiugz - scoring two goals against the side is usually an indication of an efficient attacking unit, and generally the threshold that sides know that means victory if they can reach it. To be fair, any coach would be laughed out of the ground if they decided to prepare for a game against Tiugz on the assumption that they would score four. But on a windy afternoon at De Huisgrond they did. In the first half. Crispin Galloway headed his first Tiugz goal after just twelve minutes of play, before Lieo Rygbi pounced on a Zie Held mistake to add a second just minutes later. An Erna Ootiz freekick put Tiugz three goals up, before Randoel Raedmaeceu scored a fantastic solo effort after intercepting a pass deep into his own half. Wilaamstad went into halftime looking dejected - but came out of it looking up for the fight. Against the ironclad Tiugz defence it was never going to be easy, but their performance in the second half was one of the best forty-five minutes against it in some time. Often the question is asked about whether Fajtz Ajeuesh is whether she is truly a great keeper, or just insulated by her defence and she more than answered the call - making a number of good saves as the Tiugz defence was skillfully maneuvered by the Wilaamstad attack. Wilaamstad did get their goals, however, Cnut Zumer and Hylda Dafyd both finding the net with cool efforts. Ultimately, one couldn’t help thinking that if they didn’t save their performance until their second half it could have been a really special game.

CF Bondstad 4 – 1 Tucanviul Tijgers
De Stadionnational, Bondstad (Attendance: 47,820)

CF Bondstad are on a high, and they used their momentum to score a huge victory over the Tucanviul Tijgers. Another complete performance from the side, they pressed their advantage throughout and will almost feel unlucky to have run out with eight or nine goals. The ball was in the back of the Tijgers net within the first five minutes - however Stela Killam’s goal was ruled out for offside in a dubious decision. Killam would get her goal not soon after, however, converting a gorgeous cross from Tansi Kindvanjodi. A shove on Nona Amelsvoort by Eliot Aarden gave Tucanviul a penalty - dutifully converted by Tijgers captain Lach Houten which meant the sides went into half-time deadlocked, despite Bondstad being by-far the better side. It was a situation that was untenable and the goals soon started flowing - Luc Bisop and Majori Aldar got a goal each before Killam got her second with a chip over Cseralen Zwarte. In truth, there could have been far more goals - Bondstad were constantly in the Tucanviul half and never relented. They lead the table at the half-way stage - and frankly, are starting to look a lot like champions.

Bondstad Treason 1 – 0 Pingstrand FC
De Stadionnational, Bondstad (Attendance: 29,990)

After eleven goals were scored in Saturday's games, fans were hoping that Sunday’s fixtures could be just as action-packed: especially given that Treason versus Pingstrand would pit two of the most open sides in the LegaSaari against each other. Sadly, it wasn’t to be and the dreary grey sky performed the role of pathetic fallacy in providing over a fairly dull game. Pingstrand never looked comfortable on the ball, and moved forward without any of the pace that usually characterizes the side - even on a bad day. Lie Bruux probably best characterised this, the thirty-four year old looked lost and failed to deliver a single killer cross - his usual speciality - before being subbed off after seventy-five minutes. Treason looked tired also, and a poor performance from Hilario Nadir and Sjors Koken meant that the few chances that were created were wasted. Henri Laan came off the bench to score after fifty-five minutes, picking up on a long clearance from Kameron Bondstad and slotting it home from some distance. But even the cheers were muted. As the game went on, the rain picked up and neither side looked particularly interested at the final outcome; Bondstad Treason kept their lead fairly easily, but never looked in danger of expanding it.

Tocigtuon Taun 0 – 1 De Commons
Grajsstraat, Tocigtuon (Attendance: 12,480)
Kickoff: 17:00, 20 Feb 285 | Rain, 6 celsius
Referee: Nelson Kindvanwilaam | Player of the Match: Oodel Duoztiun (De Commons)
---
'90+1 Wera Pauwelz

---

Despite having the same scoreline, Tocigtuon Taun versus De Commons was a much more exciting affair. Ostensibly a Middelund derby game - though with no history of rivalry between the two sides, the only thing added to the match is a slightly larger crowd due to geographic proximity. Nevertheless, the capacity crowd seemed to light a fire under both sides which provided for a cracking fixture. Wera Pauwelz could, and maybe should, have scored a hattrick - the first chance was a beautiful ball into the box which she failed to control leading to a shot which flew horribly wide. Next, she had a goal ruled out for offside by little more than her largest toe - falling for a fairly obvious offside trap laid by Tocigtuon. Finally, in the dying moments of the game she got her goal, losing her marker to head home after a magic run from Janna Gerrard. Tocigtuon also were a constant threat on the De Commons the goal - but as is often the case, Oodel Duoztiun was in top-form and was rewarded with the Player of the Match award.

MATCHDAY EIGHT

Wilaamstad Wrijgers 3 – 3 De Commons
Stadion Wrijgers, Wilaamstad (Attendance: 18,790)
Kickoff: 12:00, 05 Mar 285 | Sun, 12 celsius

Wilaamstad ended the first half of the season with a heavy defeat to Tiugz, albeit with a standout performance in the second half; it was the team which did the latter which showed up against De Commons. De Commons perhaps looked a little cocky as they walked out at Stadion Wrijgers, but were soon caught on the backfoot as Adell Alba floated a ball over their defense to Dani Vultuon, forcing an early save from Oodel Duoztiun. De Common’s usual rhythm was constantly disrupted by Wilaamstad, and for much of the first twenty-five minutes they looked like they didn’t know how to cope. Wilaamstad were constantly bullying their lines, giving De Volken Tiem no time or space to act - and they were rewarded with the first goal of the game. Lizett Aucs made a sloppy pace which was intercepted by Alba. Cnut Zumer controlled the long ball forward after one bounce before sliding it under Duoztiun who had rushed out. De Commons were still being harassed by Wilaamstad, but the tactical brains began to turn as the side began to use it to their advantage - deliberately going no-where so as to wear out their opponents, and going down - perhaps a little softly - to win a number of set-pieces. It was one of those free-kicks that saw the side equalise: a beautiful effort from Aucs clattered against the post. Wera Pauwelz, quickest to react, pounced and got the goal. It was another set-piece that would put De Commons ahead: a header from Zej Zamuuol after a Briutni Kindvanstefan corner. The Wrijgers’ attack was still in top form, however, and Oodel Duoztiun was constantly under threat. This paid fruit when first Dani Vultuon and then Hylda Dafyd converted to give Wilaamstad a shock lead. Heartbreakingly for Wilaamstad fans, in the third minute of stoppage time, Janna Gerrard picked up the ball and sped past four Wilaamstad players en-route to converting. If you had offered Wilaamstad a draw at the start of the game, they would have bitten your hand-off but to come so close must have been devastating.

Bondstad Treason 2–1 Tucanviul Tijgers
De Stadionnational, Bondstad (Attendance: 32,300)
Kickoff: 14:00, 05 Mar 285 | Sun, 12 celsius

After a humbling defeat by CF Bondstad last week, Tucanviul Tijgers were hoping for a slightly nicer return to De Stadionnational. Instead, Bondstad Treason put in a performance of the highest draw to continue to stake their claim as a top-tier club. Treason almost drew first blood from kickoff - Judi Buren went on an outrageous run down the right-hand side, whipping a cross into Sjors Koken and forcing a save from Cseralen Zwarte. It wouldn’t be long before Treason would get their first goal - another Buren run was squared back to Zej Saari on the edge of the box. Saari took one touch to control the ball and tee-up his shot before rocketing it into the uppermost corner. Treason would continue as the stronger side, but it would be Tucanviul which would get the next goal: a good interception by Luci Berenhaad around the half-way line allowed the team to break. Bruux Ziebruux made a good tackle which could have meant the chance went begging, but a determined Lach Houten quickly won the ball back, muscled through the Treason line and tucked past Besart Schankelen for a fantastic solo goal. Despite it, however, Tucanviul could not find a spark and Treason went back to dictating the speed of play. Their second goal, therefore, came as no surprise: Kameron Bondstad’s header from a floating corner was initially saved but Hilario Nadir managed to hack in the rebound. Treason wouldn’t get another goal, but would come close several times and never allowed the Tigers to get a proper look in; they may not have achieved a dominant scoreline, but it was a dominant performance from start to finish.

Tocigtuon Taun 3–3 Pingstrand FC
Grajsstraat, Tocigtuon (Attendance: 12,291)
Kickoff: 15:00, 06 Mar 285 | Light rain, 10 celsius
Referee: Ron Elmitt | Player of the Match: Mati Kolen (Tocigtuon Taun)

Tocigtuon and Pingstrand are both attacking teams who are liable to leave themselves open, so the match-up always had high potential for end-to-end excitement. Their clash at Grajsstraat didn’t disappoint. Pingstrand took a two goal lead within the first half an hour - dominating possession and frequently troubling Lex Horn in the Razmataz goal. Daryn Asselman got the first goal, a poacher’s effort from six yards before Ceut Dyzni added a second with a low shot which snuck in on account of Horn’s line-of-sight being severely compromised. Despite the two-goal deficit, Tocigtuon were playing like a team two goals ahead - allowing Pingstrand to run at them and approaching their own attacks without any urgency. That this may have been a tactical decision became apparent as the game went into the second half - Tocigtuon looked alert, fresh and ready to take on the slightly fatigued legs of an old Pingstrand side. For twenty-five minutes, there were merciless attacks on Darijun Fervers’s goal with no success and then came three goals in seven minutes. The first came from Ghini Bondstad - a free header after she lost her marker. Wilaam Kindvanjohan - who had not long come on as a substitute - added the second with a powerful drive from just-inside the box. Ghini Bondstad added her second, and Tocigtuon’s third with a low drive into the left hand corner. Tocigtuon kept up the search for a fourth goal - and Bondstad’s hunt for a hat-trick may have prevented it. On two occasions, she took the selfish option rather than square to a teammate in a more opportune position. This would ultimately cost her side - Pingstrand nicked a goal in the eighty-fourth minute: bursting forward on a gust of second wind with Wes Wuudham knocking the ball in.

CF Bondstad 1–0 Tiugz FC
De Stadionnational, Bondstad (Attendance: 49,688)

CF Bondstad have traditionally struggled against Tiugz, so their victory earlier in the season was seen as a watershed moment. The proof was in being able to do it again, and for much of the game it looked like a prospect that would not rise. Sure, Bondstad were the better team in terms of statistics, but teams against Tiugz often are. Although they had sixty-five percent of the possession, Bondstad were unable to penetrate Tiugz’s wall on more than a couple of occasions. One of those chances saw Majori Aldar miss a sitter. Maeri Beniut and Stela Killam did all the hard-work - combining well to break the line, and squared past Fajtz Ajeuesh to Aldar. Looking at an open goal and with time to spare, Aldar promptly fired wide. Bondstad too displayed skill in stopping their opponents from scoring: playing tight, disciplined football to stop the typical Tiugz capitalization of mistakes. Eventually, it was a fantastic Luc Bisop shot from distance which broke the deadlock. This added a bit of steam to the Bondstad attack, and if they were going to get a second goal it would have been in the ten minutes or so after Bisop’s strike. Ajeuesh made a couple of good saves, and Tiugz weathered the storm. What they couldn’t do, however, was muster an opportunity to level the scores.

MATCHDAY NINE

CF Bondstad 4 – 1 Wilaamstad Wrijgers

CF Bondstad have been playing more and more like champions in waiting, and Wilaamstad showcased this at its best. In an attacking match, both sides had their fair share of opportunities to score. It was the manner in which The Citizens did, and snuffed out their opponents chances which really caught plaudits. Stela Killam opened the scoring for the hosts, taking the ball past Zie Held before knocking it into the net. A cross from Maeri Beniut allowed Killam to add her second before Wilaamstad pulled one back through Dani Vultuon. Despite the Wilaamstad goal, Bondstad were clearly still in-charge of the game and added a third and fourth through Piteur Jong and Maeri Beniut respectively.

Tiugz FC 0 – 1 Bondstad Treason

Treason versus Tiugz saw last season’s third and fourth placed teams face off, though a surprisingly small crowd braved the gale force winds to view the match. Perhaps the loss of that element of home advantage had a negative impact on the Tiugz side, but they were playing much more disjointed than their fans had come to expect. Sure, their defence was still clearly the best in the league but Treason were able to threaten constantly. It was surprising, therefore that the side only managed to score a lone goal - a Sjors Koken header. Against an unorganised Tiugz side, it was enough to win the match but murmurs of discontent about the sides lack of attacking potency won’t be subsiding.

Tucanviul Tijgers 1 – 2 Tocigtuon Taun
Stadion van de Oerwoud, Tucanviul (Attendance: 14,659)
Kickoff: 15:00, 13 Mar 285 | Showers, 10 celsius

Tocigtuon came from behind to defeat Tucanviul Tijgers at Stadion van de Oerwoud. Although Tucanviul were probably the better side, they were unable to convert dominance into success - scoring early on through Lach Houten but not pressing their advantage. Tocigtuon got lucky for their first goal - a Jennigje Houte shot hit the outstretched arm of Aydan Klei to allow Ghini Bondstad to convert from the penalty spot. Tocigtuon’s winner came in the closing stages of the game - both sides were playing like they were content with a draw, only for The Razmataz to find a sudden burst of energy and desire: Tsaalie Pajn converting after a lengthy attack. It wasn’t a vintage performance by either side, but Tocigtuon will take the four points as they hunt for a return to the playoffs.

Pingstrand FC 1 – 2 De Commons
De Arineu Aanhetstrand, Wilaamstad (Attendance: 6,948)
Kickoff: 17:00, 13 Mar 285 | Showers, 8 celsius
Referee: Yasmyn Alteneur | Player of the Match: Oodel Duoztiun (De Commons)
---
‘60 Lie Bruux | '50 Lizett Aucs ‘72 Briutni Kindvanstefan

---

Given it was a game between the side with the best all-time record in the Lega, and the team with the worst, Pingstrand gave De Commons a good game. Constantly threatening the De Commons goal, and forcing another great performance to Oodel Duoztiun’s highlight reel. De Commons are a great side, however, and they were able to control large parts of the game: forcing Pingstrand to play at an uncomfortable pace and find a way to deal with the omnipresent De Commons midfield. Lizett Aucs opened the scoring for De Commons, before Pingstrand levelled through Lie Bruux just ten minutes later. Briutni Kindvanstefan came off the bench and scored a fabulous solo effort with her first time on the ball in what would ultimately be the final goal of the game.

MATCHDAY TEN

Wilaamstad Wrijgers 3 – 2 Pingstrand FC

Kickoff: 15:00, 19 Mar 285 | Sun, 15 celsius

‘The Battle of the Bottoms’ is a cult film amongst De BondSaari’s gay community, depicting two catty sugar-babies as they get increasingly desperate vying for their dom’s affection. Because of this film, a perfectly good title for matches between de Wilaamstad Wrijgers and Pingstrand FC has been ruined. Alas, both sides go into the games knowing that a victory will put them in pole-position to not finish last - and they are normally fine games as a result. Saturday’s outing at Stadion Wrijgers was sadly an exception - whilst there were goals, the quality of football was lacking as players pushed on tired legs; with less financial pull, Wilaamstad and Pingstrand have little quality depth beyond their first XI. Wilaamstad’s opener was a gift from Darijun Fervers in the Pingstrand goal - a soft shot from Adell Alba that Fervers went on one knee to pick-up, only to fumble it into his own net. Pingstrand were the slightly better team however, and went ahead thanks to goals from Wes Wuudham and Nicau Noriuz. Wilaamstad got two goals within the last fifteen minutes - both from pushing forward, slightly lamely, against a Pingstrand side who didn’t have the legs to carry on. Chaz Mueldeur got the first before Robyn Amsigg snatched the winner with a shot from distance. With Pingstrand now trailing badly in the race to avoid bottom, they will have to reorientate to hope to upset the bigger teams if they wish to avoid that acrimony.

Everyone knows De Commons are a great team. Indeed, as far as Saari football goes, they’re the best. At Stadion De Commons, Tucanviul got a reminder of just how good they can be. As the scoreline suggests, De Commons dominated throughout the match - scoring twice in the opening fifteen minutes: both efforts from Wera Pauwelz. Some sides would rest on their laurels at this point, but De Volken Tiem sensed their opponents head’s going down and pressed their advantage. A Briutni Kindvanstefan header followed by a Jodi Lauri volley added a third and fourth. Brenecian Janna Gerrard did all the hard-work to set up Pauwelz’s hattrick, tying ribbons around Koelin Abes and Aydan Klei before chipping it over the head of Cseralen Zwarte. Her shot hit the post, but ever in the right position, Pauwelz was there to tap it in. De Commons did calm down slightly in the second half - Pauwelz, Lauri and Gerrard were all subbed off in anticipation of next week’s Tiugz clash. One of the substitutes, Winona Tolbert made her mark almost instantly - playing a fabulous diagonal ball to Wictor Buul who slid it home. Zej Zamuuol completed the scoring with a header from a Kindvanstefan freekick. At 7-0, it was an absolute drubbing which gave De Commons a bounty of bonus points to help narrow their chase against CF Bondstad.

After last week’s shaky performance against Treason, Tiugz had some doubters to silence. Unfortunately, a repeat of the shaky performance helped a distinctly average Tocigtuon team to a 2-0 victory. As is usual in Tiugz games, Tocigtuon did struggle to create chances but were able to break through much more constantly than the norm. The first goal came around the half-hour mark, Caeli Tzaceu hooked a ball over the defensive line. Wylfod Klein did a poor job of controlling the ball, but was unusually granted space as Tiugz seemingly failed to recognise the danger. With time, Klein gathered some composure and curled the ball into the tap right hand corner. The next goal would be more in keeping with how goals against Tiugz are usually scored: a frustrated effort from length which rocketed in - Wilaam Kindvanjohan being the supplier. Tiugz day went from bad to worse when Moerius Kindvandoenaulld was given a second yellow card for consistent fouling in the dying minutes of the clash. Whilst Tocigtuon didn’t really have enough time to push their man advantage, Kindvandoenaulld will miss next week’s clash against De Commons.

After being lauded as the kings across the water by much of the press, CF Bondstad could be forgiven for feeling like their world is collapsing around them as they suffered a heavy defeat against city rivals, Bondstad Treason. The first half was true to form, CF dominated and were by-far the better side - taking the lead through Stela Killam. And then in the second half, the winds at Stadionnational changed and the two sides changed roles. Treason looked like the giants whilst CF Bondstad like a bunch of rank amateurs. Hilario Nadir brought the sides equal early on in the half before setting up Lonau Puotnaam who added a second. A Walt Beunaad freekick added a third, and CF looked like they didn’t know how to respond. Lonau Puotnaam rounded off the game with her second goal - largely gifted after Cserize Apeldoorn was too relaxed with the ball in her own box.

MATCHDAY ELEVEN

Bondstad Treason 4 – 0 Wilaamstad Wrijgers

Bondstad Treason were on a high after their rout of rivals, CF Bondstad, last week and they used their momentum to get another four-goal win against Wilaamstad. Playing with a smile on their faces, Treason dominated by as much as the scoreline suggests. Lonau Puotnaam continued her good run of form by opening the scoring with a scorcher from distance. Bondstad were dealt a blow late in the first half when Ela Klerken went off, clutching her hamstring, but responded with a Sjors Koken goal to finish the half on a high. The second half continued much in the same way: Henri Laan and Hilario Nadir both got their names on the scoreboards whilst Wilaamstad ended the match with just two shots on target.

After a free-flowing game that saw them score seven goals last week, De Commons knew they were in for a very different match away at Tiugz. Tiugz, who have been going through a shaky patch, were without Moerius Kindvandoenaulld but seemed to regain some of the lost discipline. De Commons did manage to take the lead relatively early in the game, however, Janna Gerrard supplied a fantastic ball to Wera Pauwelz who headed past Fajtz Ajeuesh. De Commons exerted high pressure and a second goal always seemed just around the corner, but a strong performance from Ajeuesh managed to keep the deficit at just a single goal.

Tucanviul had a lot to prove after last week’s drubbing - and found the best way they could have possibly responded, hitting seven goals. Most of the games action occurred in an action packed first half - which saw an astonishing nine goals scored. The first was after just three minutes, Daryn Asselman scoring for Pingstrand. If Tucanviul fans thought history was repeating itself, their team quickly moved to prove them wrong, scoring three in quick succession. Lach Houten got two of them, both with his usual super-human ability to out-muscle any opponent, whilst Tiubi Jacobse also got her name on the scoresheet. Pingstrand would get the next goal - a Lie Bruux effort from distance, but from thereonin it was the Tucanviul show. Criuzi Siwaad made it 4-2 with a header before Lach Houten got his hat trick. Luci Berenhaad got the Tiger’s sixth and Houten added a seventh from the penalty spot. In the dying moments of the second half, Cinda Grooffz got a consolation goal for Pingstrand but it took nothing away from a swaggering Tucanviul performance.

CF Bondstad 1 – 0 Tocigtuon Taun

As the nation’s Emmanuel Goldstein, CF Bondstad fans have had to endure a week of taunting from opposition fans who could hardly contain their glee at the Treason result. Whilst they didn’t sink to a four-one defeat in front of a capacity crowd, they weren’t convincing enough to wipe those smerks from people’s faces. A great what-if is if Tocigtuon Taun had played like they were facing a Bondstad side with their heads down, rather than taking the usual smaller side approach of hoping to hit their larger opponents on the counter. The sole goal of the game came from Stela Killam, volleying home a cross from Maeri Beniut after wrong-stepping her marker. Other than that, it was a quiet game; CF Bondstad will be thankful for the win, but the clear drop in quality from their ‘glory days’ early in the season was laid bare.

MATCHDAY TWELVE

Wilaamstad Wrijgers 2 – 3 Tucanviul Tijgers
Stadion Wrijgers, Wilaamstad (Attendance: 18,549)
Kickoff: 15:00, 02 Apr 285 | Cloudy, 15 celsius

It’s strange, most sides would take being humbled 7-0 very poorly; Tucanviul have used it to reboot their season. Their 3-2 victory against Wilaamstad saw the team overturn going two goals, and one player, behind within twenty minutes. The first Wilaamstad goal came cheaply - Hylda Dafyd’s shot was a poor one but somehow was bungled in after a miscommunication between Cseralen Zwarte and Koelin Abes. The second was a penalty after Cseralen Zwarte made a two-footed tackle after rushing out. Zwarte saw red and Cnut Zumer made it 2-0. But Tucanviul showed determination to get back into the game, and slowly exerted pressure to the point that their improbable comeback looked inevitable. Mohammad Islam, Tiubi Jacobse and Lach Houten were the goalscorers - all three goals coming from efforts just inside the box. With the victory, Tucanviul have moved into the final play-off spot - and they have a chance to make it theirs if they defeat fifth placed Tiugz next week.

Pingstrand FC 1 – 2 Tiugz FC
De Arineu Aanhetstrand, Wilaamstad (Attendance: 6,507)

Pingstrand’s chaotic defending continued as they hosted, being put on the backfoot by a Tiugz attacking unit which is generally considered to be one of the weakest in the league. The usual Tiugz strategy is to capitalise on an opponent’s errors, and Pingstrand gave them plenty of chances to do so. A poor pass from Krysten Roeburts back to goal allowed Alv Meuseu to grab the first goal, before Lieo Rygbi added a second after being given acres of space by the Pingstrand defence. Pingstrand did manage to grab a goal - Kajli Heuvel heading in from a corner but the Tiugz defence was sufficient to stop and comeback and secure the victory.

De Commons 3 – 1 CF Bondstad

De Commons secured their place in the Playoff, and put themselves in prime position to finish first in the regular season after a convincing 3-1 victory versus CF Bondstad. The match started quietly, with both sides perhaps apprehensive to push forward lest they be hit by a counter-attack. It took a Wictor Buul freekick, therefore, to set the game alight - a fantastic effort that curled around the wall on its way to the top left hand corner. Janna Gerrard added a second goal for De Volken Tiem, combining well with Wera Pauwelz before hitting it past Gerlinde Fabiuon. Bondstad fans had some hope when Maeri Beniut scored a fantastic solo effort - the culmination of a solo run which began deep within her own half. However, De Commons’s third goal just three minutes later - a tap in from Briutni Kindvanstefan - quickly snuffed out any chance of that happening. De Commons can now start to prepare for the postseason, and whilst Bondstad are all but guaranteed to be joining them they have to hope they can overcome their hump in time to be competitive.

Bondstad Treason are on an up-swing and continued to use their momentum with a decisive victory over Tocigtuon. All five of the team’s goals came in the first half: two each from Hilario Nadir and Sjors Koken and one from Zej Saari. Nadir’s second was especially special: an overhead kick which rocketed past Lex Horn to put him in contention for goal of the season. Bondstad let their foot off the pedal slightly in the second half, preserving their legs for next week's match against De Commons. Tocigtuon managed to get a goal from this, Wylfod Klein converting from a Tsaalie Pajn cross. Nevertheless, it was a fantastic performance from Treason.

MATCHDAY THIRTEEN

Tocigtuon Taun 2 – 0 Wilaamstad Wrijgers

Tocigtuon almost certainly condemned Wilaamstad to a second consecutive last place after a two-nil victory at Grajsstraat. Tocigtuon weren’t even particularly good - a running theme of the team’s season seems to be their averageness, with results being decided by how good their opponents are. Both of The Razzmatazz’s goals came from Ghini Bondstad - one either side of half time, one with each foot. It was a lowkey game, which seemed suitable for the overcast, miserable day on which it was played.

Bondstad versus De Commons was a much more exciting affair than the scoreline suggests. In part due to two fantastic performances from Besart Schankelen and Oodel Duoztiun in each side's goals; both made a number of acrobatic saves to keep their teams in the game against all odds. In addition, neither side was willing to commit the legs forward to risk injury or greater fatigue with an eye on the Playoffs. Nil-nil draws are rare in the Lega, and the big crowd might have hoped for more goals. However, boring it was not.

CF Bondstad 0 – 2 Pingstrand FC
De Stadionnational, Bondstad (Attendance: 45,832)
Kickoff: 15:00, 10 Apr 285 | Overcast, 12 celsius

CF Bondstad’s have gone from presumptive champions to losing, relatively convincingly, to Pingstrand. It was not a good performance from Bondstad - with their place in the Playoffs guaranteed and the first position in the Lega out of their hands, they had little to fight for and it showed. Pingstrand weren’t even at their best as they retained possession for much of the match - slightly off the pace due to late season fatigue. Both goals came via Lie Bruux crosses. The first, at the half-hour mark, was headed home by Daryn Asselman whilst Nicau Noriuz hit Pingstrand’s second on the volley. The stakes for both sides were relatively low, and it showed in the game but Bondstad will be worried at the lack of a good launchpad for their playoff campaign.

Tucanviul won a lot of plaudits for their ten-player comeback against Wilaamstad last match. People just forgot to adjust their expectations after one fundamental changed: their goalkeeper was sent-off. Eighteen year old Jaci Aleksandeur replaced the suspended Cseralen Zwarte and had a baptism of fire in a game which saw Tiugz score three times. Lieo Rygbi, often mocked as a SINO - ‘Striker In Name Only’ -, scored two of them. The first was after being the first to react after Bruux Porter’s effort from range cannoned off of the post - a proper poacher’s goal - whilst the second came after a fabulous through-ball from Randoel Raedmaeceu. Tiugz’s final goal came late in the game, courtesy of Erna Ootiz intercepting a tired pass between the Tucanviul defence and firing it in before anyone else had reacted. The result leaves the two sides on equal points in the table, with Tiugz narrowly ahead on the goal difference metric for the final playoff spot.

MATCHDAY FOURTEEN

Wilaamstad Wrijgers 0 – 0 Tiugz FC
Stadion Wrijgers, Wilaamstad (Attendance: 16,218)
Kickoff: 13:00, 16 Apr 285 | Rain, 13 celsius
Referee: Yasmyn Alteneur | Player of the Match: Moerius Kindvandoenaulld (Tiugz FC)
---

---

Tiugz knew they had to beat or match Tucanviul’s result - with the prospect of the Tigers getting a bonus point through a blow-out victory looming large, the side lined up more attacking than fans of the LegaSaari have been accustomed to. The result was something that looked weird and out of place. Luckily, Wilaamstad were ill-equipped to capitalise: the side has little depth beyond it’s starting XI and the fatigue showed on the Warrior’s players. As it became clearer that Tucanviul would not be storming to a 3-0 victory at Stadion van de Oerwoud, the side began to settle more into their usual rhythm - albeit with perhaps a slight more urgency toward getting a goal than usual. This granted them a second half performance that was much better, but they were still unable to get that goal. To Wilaamstad’s credit, they played a disciplined match despite their tiredness and deserved the draw. In the end, Tiugz’s inability to get a goal didn’t matter as Tucanviul received the same scoreline. By the barest of margains, Tiugz have qualified for the playoffs for the second time in a row.

Tucanviul Tijgers 0 – 0 CF Bondstad
Stadion van de Oerwoud, Tucanviul (Attendance: 15,102)
Kickoff: 13:00, 16 Apr 285 | Rain, 13 celsius
Referee: Luuc Vaan | Player of the Match: Eliot Aarden (CF Bondstad)
---

---

When CF Bondstad announced a heavily rotated starting eleven, fans of the Tucanviul Tijgers could have been excused for feeling like it was their moment. Although the result wasn’t entirely in their hands - they would need to receive one more point than Tiugz, either through the conventional or bonus point route - it had just become more likely. Unfortunatley for Tucanviul fans, the CF Bondstad decided to keep hold of possession and didn’t give the Tigers many chances to get their goal. CF Bondstad are the proverbial villains of Sari football, and to many football fans their latest evil plan was stealing any chance that Tucanviul had to control their own destiny. Tucanviul miss out on the playoffs, but their fans did have one reason to laugh: CF Bondstad were overtaken in the league table by city rivals, Bondstad Treason for the first time in their history.

Pingstrand FC 0 – 1 Bondstad Treason
De Arineu Aanhetstrand, Wilaamstad (Attendance: 7,110)
Kickoff: 13:00, 16 Apr 285 | Rain, 13 celsius
Referee: Ron Elmitt | Player of the Match: Krysten Roeburts (Pingstrand FC)
---
‘78 Katrien Faanham

---

For teams guaranteed a play-off space, the final game of a season carries none of the drama that characterizes other leagues in the multiverse. As such, they traditionally field weaker teams to showcase youth and reserve talent whilst resting players for the play-off campaign. Treason approached the game in this manner, and for neutrals provided a good match against a full-strength Pingstrand team. The goal’s sole goal came in the seventy-eighth minute: a half volley by Katrien Faanham at the edge of the box. Both sides left relatively happy: Pingstrand avoided a last place finish whilst Treason will go into the Qualifying Game after finishing in second place.

De Commons 1 – 0 Tocigtuon Taun
Stadion De Commons, De Commons (Attendance: 10,220)
Kickoff: 13:00, 16 Apr 285 | Rain, 12 celsius
Referee: Egbert Haaglander | Player of the Match: Bloem Auteberi (De Commons)
---
‘43 Alexaandeur Teunizen

---

De Commons hosted a celebration at Stadion De Commons - the side had wrapped up a second consecutive regular season victory, marked with a small trophy awarded after the final whistle, and were able to relax on the way to a one-nil victory. Although the margin of victory was small, the side controlled much of the match with a rotated side focused on retaining possession in front of a home-crowd which cheered every pass. Sixteen year old Alexaandeur Teunizen got the only goal of the game - a solo effort which he celebrated in-front of the hyper-partisan North Stand. De Commons knew that anything other than retaining their title would be judged as a failure, but if they can play in the playoffs in the same manner that they have in the regular season it will take a small miracle to stop them.

The third quarter of the season saw the race at the very top remain extremely tight, Manat maintained their lead over Hisar, by a mere two points, who were a further point ahead of Uryanspor. The top three were clearly far ahead of the other teams with Elektriklestirmespor, Tashkentspor and DBFT tied on points in the race for fourth place and Demirspor just on the outside looking in two points behind those three. The competition for the final IFCF spot looked tough and as if it would drag until the final match of the season.

At the bottom of the table, Urukspor looked almost certain for the drop, six points behind fellow strugglers Caykur Denizspor, who also looked certain to be condemned to relegation. Tunahanspor and Sariirmakspor are locked in a duel for survival on 21 points each, with Altinmaden Isciler and Demir Buyukkentspor trying to build distance from those two to build on their one point cushion.

With the season at an end, it came down to the wire, with Uryanspor's last second bid to take the title from the capital thwarted by Hisar's away win over Kilicspor which condemned Kilicspor to the Worker's League next season keeping the cup in Demir. Manat ended up finishing third after leading for much of the season leading to calls for the management to rethink their tactics, with an astonishing 117 goals scored, but 39 conceded indicating that the team has the firepower, but lacks discipline in defence against top teams. The final IFCF place will go to Elektriklestirmespor who ended up comfortably clear of fifth place DBFT and Demirspor who were level on points. Tashkentspor's decline means the management will likely be fired having squandered fourth place, which they held for much of the season and a lot of talent who will now want to leave the club.

Caykur Denizspor barely survived with a last gasp win over Bakir FK, condemning Kilicspor to the Workers league alongside Tunahanspor and Urukspor.

The national stadium, the Stadium of the Restoration, sits 91,835. It is the country's largest soccer stadium, and, of course, it is the national stadium. On the stadium's site, in 1835, the Banijan monarchy was restored at this site in Banija's first declaration of independence from the Royal Kingdom of Quebec. When the RBSA was formed, it was the obvious site to build the national stadium. The original facility sat 69,000, and was then, as it is now, Banija's largest soccer stadium. It was home to the Banijan national soccer and gridiron teams, and hosted plenty of international tournaments, including the Finals of a UICA Globe Cup, World Bowl and a Baptism of Fire. However, the ageing facility needed to be rebuilt so that one could fit the WCC's 80,000 seater minimum requirement to host a World Cup opening match, as required when the country co-hosted World Cup 81.

The bid from AEP, an architectural firm from Siovanija & Teusland, won the bid to build a new Stadium of the Restoration on the same site in time for World Cup 81. The brand new stadium's capacity, according to the bid, is a nod to Banija's history, of the year that made the site famous in 1835. It has a retractable natural grass surface, used for soccer, and a retractable articifial turf surface, used for gridiron football and during ceremonies like coronations. There are no gaps between the stands, while the South Stand is a single tier, designed to amplify crowd noise. The stadium contains 35 suites, 1 of which is always reserved for RBSA executives, and the second always received for His Majesty, the Kabaka.

Since the rebuild, of course, it hosted both the opening match and one of the semifinals of both World Cup 81 and World Cup 83, the AOCAF LVIII Final, as well as the coronation ceremony of Kabaka Mwanga. The Royal Banijan Soccer Association, in conjunction with the Capitol Region Development Authority, are bidding with the stadium to host both the Champions League Final for the first time.

Atlantian Oceania Champions League: Star Field(capacity 70,000).

The stadium in Herzegovina City is Star Field, and it is known as one of Banija's oldest stadiums. The city itself is Banija's oldest, nearly 1,000 years old- a great site for the traveling fan. It is easy to reach, via Istria International Airport. The stadium is home to Herzegovina City FC, Banija's most successful side since the establishment of the BSL, with 6 league titles in the past 9 seasons. The stadium has long hosted major events, including two World Cup Quarterfinals and an AOCAF LVIII quarterfinal.

Fujai (FJA) Final Site Bids
FFI Liga dos Vencedores: Nykanalstadion, Keiserholde (cap. 48,300 (34,680 standing, 13,620 seated))
Known commonly as Nykanalen, the stadium is located in Nykanalparken, a park built on the former fortifications that surround Keiserholde's city center. Nykanalen is the largest stadium in the nation, and serves as the home stadium for the Landslag. Like most stadiums in Fujai, it includes large standing areas to increase capacity, lower costs, and help people stay warm by standing instead of sitting in the country's famously cold weather.

Edit: added Cup Winners' Cup, correctly? I think?
Edit 2: totally missed that the CdC was renamed TdC, fixed it now!

[old post] League Structure (updates: Lumineer's strikers are now a Quagsire and a Hawlucha. City of Light's left midfielder is now a Cinderace.)

Lumineum's dominance continues, the past four cycles now comprising of a double-double of wins for the Lumineers and now City of Light. CoL's investment in scouting paid off big time, their explorers coming across a far-flung island home to a species extraordinarily adept at the ol' kicking of the ball--and getting a boat out to bring their new signing, the first Cinderace in the Quaglands, back in time for the season. Rumor has it they've been vising the Grove a fair bit, too--seems to feel a bit more at home among the ash. A resurgent Quaggen finally challenged for the title for the first time in years, but was undone by their ability to close out matches as compared to their cosmopolitan competition. Either way, their fanbase will finally be happy--wait no they're never happy unless they have the title in hand, nevermind. Below them, taking up the last FFI slot, are a Bayou squad on the up and up. Playing away had always been their weakness as they could swamp down any home game on demand, and it seems they found a way to push the needle just enough to flip those away losses into draws and push those home draws into wins. That obviously makes a great deal of a difference in setting their high watermark season. Lumineers are still popping per usual but suffered from the greater disparity in the league benefiting their opposition more than them. On the one fin, no competition for a CC place. On the other, they're relegated to fourth and no FFI play. And finally, that layout of qualifiers is one we haven't seen since the QSL began entering international competitions--two Quagpire teams and two Lumineum teams. That means Corphican teams can claim the VCI spot should they finish above all the Grove teams and, well, that's basically a forgone conclusion. Daunt's Den will be bringing their patented Anchor formation to Vilita, and Sootopolis is left completely bereft.

Oakport has firmly established themselves as the class of the league, taking their fifth title in a row. Competition wasn't particularly tight, with Plinth toppling Cyrfall for second in the last few days meaning neither were within a shout of the Oakers. Who, by the by, let in four goals. Four. That's just under one every five games. Meredyth Shepherd has filed her defense to a ludicrously sharp edge. Drury rebounded from their utterly awful performance last cycle, cleanly doubling their point total to 18--and actually, Plinth doubled their point total from 18 to 36. It's real difficult to give a hypothetical Manager of the Year to anyone other than Shepherd here, but Gareth MacKenny has to have a real shout there for a turnaround performance like that.

284-285 LegaSaari: Development League Season

Next season, the LegaSaari is growing, and that means that the Development Leagues are changing too. Previously a loose competition, where teams arranged their own matches - usually locally - and were entered into a league table with an eight team playoff decided by an algorithm. It had some cult followers, with some teams - such as FC Einst van Mei - initially having fanbases to rival LegaSaari franchises. But as the Lega became more dominant, the development leagues financially struggled. So when the Lega announced that it would be expanding to two professional divisions of ten teams - with large development payments to the twelve lucky teams - it sparked an ugly PR battle for who those teams would be. The idea initially floated was a compromise between admitting sides from the largest cities and communities without a LegaSaari team and those who had previously been most successful. However, it quickly became apparent that there would be sufficient appetite for a competition to decide those two places. As feedback from marketing grew, the idea ballooned into two organised professional leagues, and a three tier - fifty four side - organised semi-professional league under the Development Leagues umbrella. Unlike the previous LegaSaari, the league would not be a closed shop - there would be promotion and relegation between all five tiers with teams finishing bottom in the two fifth tier leagues having to reapply in an open bidding process to remain in the league.

The competition to decide where teams would fall in the pyramid was held between the fifty-six sides who completed at least ten games in the previous Development Leagues Season. Whilst this caused some discontent - there were some pre-established sides who were not formal members of the Development League - it was decided that it would be most fair - with a bidding process to decide the ten final sides who would make-up the Lega, albeit in the final tier.

Stage one was the crucial round - teams played a single round robin in seven geographically split regions. The top three teams from each division would advance to a second stage 'the Placement Playoffs'. The second stage would be the most crucial - a knockout competition which would see the top two sides compete in the LegaSaari, the next ten in the LegaSaari 2 and the final nine in the Development Championship. With the first two divisions being professional leagues, the financial stakes were enormous. The best placed fourth placed side would also join the Development Championship. The other fourth to sixth placed teams would be placed in Development League B, whilst sides finishing seventh and eighth would play in Development League C, the bottom tier.

Image

Stage Two started with groups of three - each side playing the other twice. The best side from each group - Groen Paak Roveurs, FC Einst van Mei, Zilverstraat SC, Bondstad Victorie, Oostelund Cavalaars, CA Marlhuem Paak and Volken Bondstad - and the best runner up - BSC Kroningdam - would go through to an eight team knockout tournament. In addition to these eight teams, the next best four teams - CVD Speelvelden Wiclyf, Hertshoorn Staags, CvF Lyntveld and Bondstad Kosmopolitisch - would be going professional and playing in the LegaSaari 2 next season. The remaining nine sides would be joining SS Haaglanden in the Development Championship.

The aim of the knockouts, held at De Stadionnational in Bondstad, were simple - win two games and you will be playing in the LegaSaari. The first round saw a clash of giants between Groen Paak Roveurs and FC Einst van Mei, two sides who had previously had success in the Development Leagues. In the end it was the Reds who were successful, setting up a clash with Oostelund Cavalaars, who had defeated Volken Bondstad in their first round match. Zilverstraat SC continued their cinderella story by defeating CA Marlhuem Paak whilst BSC Kroningdam, who had only qualified for the knockouts as best second placed side, trounced Bondstad Victorie by three goals to nothing. The deciding games were both nailbitters, FC Einst van Mei, the favourites, were denied by an Oostelund Cavalaars side who took the lead early on and refused to buckle under eighty minutes of pressure. Zilverstraat SC went two goals behind to BSC Kroningdam, but fought back and won their LegaSaari place on penalties. In the final game - a lower-key affair to decide who would be 'Development League Champion' - Zilverstraat SC defeated Oostelund Cavalaars. Nobody knows what the future will bring for these sides, but as Zilverstraat held the last ever - and most important - Development League Cup above their heads, they now have their destiny in their own hands.

284-285 LegaSaari Playoffs

Every year the playoffs generate more and more excitement. The past fourteen weekends of everyone's lives have been building up to these four games. Every side has a story of how they got there: De Commons storming to the regular season trophy with a dominating performance which made their pre-season doubters look like something out of Monty Python's The Meaning of Life through all the humble pie they've had to consume; Bondstad Treason recovering from a terrible start to the season to pip their city rivals to second place for the first time ever, CF Bondstad falling from champions-in-waiting to struggling to keep their heads above water in the space of a forty-five minutes encounter. Or maybe your drug of choice is Tiugz, who slipped into the playoffs for only the second time on the basis of goal difference. But that doesn't matter now. Four games. One champion.

ELIMINATION GAME

CF Bondstad 0(3) - 0(1) Tiugz FC (pen)
Stadionnational, Bondstad (Attendance: 49,789)
Kickoff: 16:00, 07 May 285 | Sunny, 19 celsius
Referee: Luuc Vaan | Player of the Match: Moerius Kindvandoenaulld (Tiugz FC)
---

---

Both times that CF Bondstad played Tiugz in the regular season ended with a one-nil victory for the Citizens, but both were hard-fought games. And both were when CF Bondstad were in much better form than they were going into the playoffs with. There were little surprises in how the two sides lined up - Tiugz were ready to play the hard-slog and hope to win through pouncing on their opponents mistakes whilst Bondstad were set-up for an expansive gave, utilizing their quality out wide. Despite this, it was Tiugz who started the game most positively - testing Gerlinde Fabiuon with a well-worked effort. This was perhaps a test of CF Bondstad's nerves, because upon seeing CF Bondstad deal with it competently, they reverted to a more cautious style of play. Whilst it was hard for CF Bondstad to breach the stonewall, the side did have a couple of good opportunities to take the lead. Maeri Beniut and Luc Bisop were the architects of most of these - though marking so close that it was almost skintight on Stela Killam and Majori Aldar allowed Tiugz to snuff out any danger. It was this, then, which set the stage for a nil-nil finish in regular time. Extra time saw an increasingly tired CF Bondstad nearly make mistakes, and Tiugz were unlucky not to capitalise - a poor pass by Mejli Humel allowed Randoel Raedmaeceu to break, though Lieo Rygbi put the shot wide after some excellent one-on-one goalkeeping by Fabioun. So it would be penalties that would decide who would be the first side eliminated from the Playoffs. For the first time, the 'ABBA' system would be used with Tiugz winning the coin toss and opting to go first. Lieo Rygbi missed, whilst Piteur Jong and Tansi Kindvanjodi converted for CF Bondstad. Imaa Saari brought it back to 1-2, but Erna Ootiz failed to equalize. Luc Bisop put his side two penalties ahead but Majori Aldar couldn't seal the win after Fajtz Ajeuesh made a vital save to keep her side in the match. Alv Meuseu had to score to keep Tiugz in the game, but his effort smashed the crossbar after he tried to power it above Fabioun. They had to work for it, but CF Bondstad would be advancing to the Semi Final.

QUALIFYING GAME

De Commons 2 - 0 Bondstad Treason
Stadion De Commons, De Commons (Attendance: 10,219)
Kickoff: 16:00, 08 May 285 | Sunny, 22 celsius
Referee: Adriaan Tynkeur | Player of the Match: Lizett Aucs (De Commons)
---
‘45+2 Wera Pauwelz '83 Lizett Aucs

---

It seems like a lifetime ago, but De Commons defeated Treason by a hefty 5-1 margin in last season's Playoff Semi Final. De Jongere Broers were less pushovers this time around, and took part in a wonderful sporting contest under the beaming Middlelund springtime sun. Both sides set out to play positive football - De Commons demonstrating their quality in every area of the pitch whilst moving the ball around with ease, whereas Treason were more happy to play direct and keep the pressure on the De Commons defence. For a long period of the game, it looked like it would be the Treason tactic which came up trumps - Oodel Duoztiun was required to come to the rescue of Jaxon Pieuz and Zej Zamuuol on a number of occasions after they struggled to contain the tricky runs of Sjors Koken. But it was De Commons who got the first goal just before half-time. A fantastic triangular partnership between Lizett Aucs, Wictor Buul and Jodi Lauri had the Treason back-line in knots, before a fantastic through ball was played to Wera Pauwelz. Pauwelz had her back to goal, took one touch on the turn and fired it into the net. It was a goal that showcased just why this De Commons side are considered one of the best in Sari history. Treason came out fighting, but the introduction of Trent Kindvanbruux provided some much needed pace into the De Commons defence to neutralise the visitors biggest advantage. It wasn't until the eighty-third minute that De Commons managed to get their second goal and could relax. In truth, it was a poor corner from Buul but Besart Schankelen's decision to punch the ball away rather than catch set Lizett Aucs up for a fabulous volley which rocketed into the roof of the net. The result means that De Commons will advance to a Grand Final in front of their own fans, whilst Treason will be playing CF Bondstad in a delicious derby at De Stadionnational in the Semi Final.

SEMI FINAL

Bondstad Treason 4 - 3 CF Bondstad
Stadionnational, Bondstad (Attendance: 50,046)
Kickoff: 19:00, 11 May 285 | Sunny, 18 celsius
Referee: Adriaan Tynkeur | Player of the Match: Sjors Koken (Bondstad Treason)
---
‘46 Sjors Koken '58 Bruux Ziebruux '81 Izajeu Nej '90+3 Sjors Koken | '12 Luc Bisop '39 Majori Aldar '62 Maeri Beniut

---

Matches between CF Bondstad and Bondstad Treason are always great affairs, but this Playoff Semi Final might go down as one of the greatest ever. It's one of those games which non-sport fans just don't understand - the stakes, made more tasty by the history of the sides. Treason, who had reached their first Playoff Semi Final last year only to be humiliated by five goals to one had demons to banish. Bondstad, who had at one point had one hand on the trophy before having gone on a downward spiral after losing to Treason. And the nature of the sides! CF Bondstad, the historic but corporate club who everyone hated; who had dropped the 'v' from their previous name of CvF Bondstad to increase their appeal for foreign markets, who had brought their way to one too many league titles. The favourite team of rich people and metropolitan elites. And Treason, a team from the poorer east side - who had previously wallowed in mediocrity. They may carry the name of the capital, but they were the capital-ites that the rest of the country didn't mind. A team everyone had a soft spot for but could never quite reach their potential. A game once famously characterized as the 'mean bastards against the plucky orphans'.

And then the game itself was one of drama and beauty. CF Bondstad went ahead within twelve minutes after Walt Beunaad gave away a cheap free-kick at the edge of the box, although even the most hardened partisan might stiffly admit that Luc Bisop's swerving free-kick was a piece of technical mastery. And then CF Bondstad got a second - Majori Aldar latching onto a wonderful through-ball from Piteur Jong en-route to chipping Besart Schankelen. But Treason weren't ready to let their playoff dreams die that early, and scored straight out of half-time: a fabulous cross by Lonau Puotnaam that was guided into the net by Sjors Koken's head. A header would provide Treason's equalizer - Bruux Ziebruux jumping six inches above everyone else to convert from a corner. Momentum was with Treason... for about two minutes. Earlier in the season, CF Bondstad had crumbled when Treason began to score in the second half, but not this time. Two minutes after the Treason goal and they were back in the lead. It was Jong who again provided the assist finding Maeri Beniut in space. As she seemingly always does in these situation, Beniut cut inside and curled it passed Schankelen. Treason kept trying to get back, but Bondstad refused to give up possession of the ball - pass after pass without any procession or attacking intent taunted the Treason players. And then a mistake: Bisop, the player who had feigned injury to win a late penalty to defeat Treason in a previous encounter, overegged a pass. Walt Beunaad was there to intercept, and the Treason counter-attack burst into the Citizen's box. One pass, two passes, three passes tried to square it around Gerlinde Fabiuon, but the CF Bondstad defence were good. Then Izajeu Nej got hold of the ball, and with one touch hit a ball straight at the CF keeper with all the might he could muster. There was no keeper in the world who could save it. Eighty minutes. Three all. Treason had the energy of the side with momentum, but the ball just wouldn't go in the net. And then in the third minute of stoppage time it happened: Judi Buren played a ball through the legs of Henri Brejzun and Koken inexplicably had space on the ball in his opponents box. For a striker, what happened next was second nature. For everyone else it took a second to sink in. Treason were ahead. CF Bondstad kicked off, and then the final whistle went. Treason 4, CF 3. The Younger Brothers had won.

GRAND FINAL

De Commons 3 - 1 Bondstad Treason
Stadion De Commons, De Commons (Attendance: 10,220)
Kickoff: 13:00, 15 May 285 | Sunny, 23 celsius
Referee: Luuc Vaan | Player of the Match: Wictor Buul (De Commons)
---
‘28 Wictor Buul '42 Wera Pauwelz '76 Wera Pauwelz | '87 Hilario Nadir

---

A capacity crowd packed itself into Stadion De Commons for the final time before the stadium is almost completely rebuilt - more than tripling it's capacity - over the summer. And with a LegaSaari Playoff final on the hottest day of the year, there couldn't be a better sendoff. In the previous three meetings between the sides during the season, De Commons won two whilst one - with the caveat that it was toward the end of the regular season, so was more lacking in stakes - ended in a goalless draw. It was Treason's first appearance in the Grand Final, and they started the match with a period of early dominance: Oodel Duoztiun was twice required to provide the last line of defence after a shaky start from Jaxon Pieuz and Zej Zamuuol. But it was De Commons who drew first blood: at first it looked like a good move down the left hand side by Edwina Strijd was snuffed out, but a poor clearance by Kameron Bondstad played the ball back into the path of Wictor Buul. It isn't a good idea to give Buul the ball on the edge of the box, and he proved that again with a shot which rocketed into the top hand corner. Treason pushed forward to try and equalise, but in doing so left themselves slightly exposed. Against a team like De Commons, this was dangerous: and when a speculative ball forward from Jodi Lauri found Wera Pauwelz in space, it was Treason's undoing. One on one with Besart Schankelen, Pauwelz tapped it around the Treason keeper and into the open net. Treason came out of the break with the same ferocity that won them their Semi Final match, but against a team like De Commons they were left with few real chances. The fire finally went out in the seventy-sixth minute. Substitute, Briutni Kindvanstefan, picked the ball up in her own half and played it round two Treason players. She was denied a late contender for goal of the season by the post, but Pauwelz was able to tap in the rebound. A Hilario Nadir header from a late corner gave Treason something to cheer, but as the final whistle went De Commons were the worthy champions.

284-285 CHAMPIONS: DE COMMONS FUUTBOL CLUUB

It's strange how inevitable the title now seems, but De Commons had their vocal doubters at the start of the season. And for much of the season, it was CF Bondstad who were gaining the plaudits after De Volken Tiem dropped a few early points. But the team was content with being quietly competent, picking up points after points including a raft of bonus points in drubbings of Pingstand (6-2) and Tucanviul Tijgers (7-0). Both their playoff games would be against Bondstad Treason, and whilst the side would have to fight for their wins they were clearly a class above their opponents. It was the sides third win in as many seasons. Next season, the challenge is to do it again.

284-285 END OF SEASON AWARDS

Player of the Season - Maeri Beniut (CF Bondstad)
Long regarded one of the brightest young prospects, this was the season in which Maeri Beniut really came into her own. Such is her talent that nearly all of her sides attacks are being directed down her right-wing, and opposition defenders are forced to stick to her like glue - but they still haven't found a way to stop her! Armed with great pace, an eye for style and the skills to complement this, she is what every winger should be. If Bondstad are going to come back strong next year, Beniut will be at the heart of it.

Golden Boot - Wera Pauwelz & Lach Houten (De Commons, Tucanviul Tijgers; 13 Goals)
Unlucky for some, but Wera Pauwelz and Lach Houten are this season's joint Golden Boot winners after a scoring average of a little under a goal a game. Both have been in fine form all season - getting goals out of nowhere when their teams needed it, as well as getting the odd tap-in along the way! Houten's greatest moment came as he hit four enroute to his team demolishing Pingstrand 7-3 whilst Pauwelz's three goals in the playoffs were instrumental to her sides retention of the LegaSaari trophy.

Golden Glove - Oodel Duoztiun (De Commons; 13 conceded, 7 clean sheets)
Oodel Duoztiun is the best Saari goalkeeper of his generation, and was an instrumental part of his side's success. Game after game, he was relied upon to make the important saves, and game after game he delivered. Whether it's his commanding presence in the box, his ability to stop his opponents from beating him in one-on-ones or his basic footballing intelligence, he's the keeper with it all.

The Sarian (TSA) Final Site Bids
IFCF Liga B Champions Trophy & IFF Taça das Confederações: De Stadionnational, Bondstad

De Stadionnational is the largest football stadium in De BondSaari, and as home to the Sari National Team is no stranger to hosting big events. Opened fifteen years ago, the stadium was initially mocked as 'De Bobbelgroen (the green lump)' after it's all green exterior - however it has won over the affection of fans since! With stands that loom over the pitch, it is a real spectators stadium - providing great atmosphere when it is at its full capacity of 50,046. The teams that reach the final may wish to avoid the away changing room though - it has been declared cursed by former Tocigtuon Taun defender Luka Luucasuun after he broke his collarbone in the showers before an important playoff game!

Logistically, the stadium can be reached by the Bondstad Tram (routes 9 & 12), Metro (line E) and by water ferry. The best way to get to the capital is through Bondstad International (BSX) airport, which is just a fifteen minute high-speed rail journey from the center of the capital.

Year 90013
Preview (Teams 1 | 2) | Review (1 | 2 | 3)

Season Summary
Fortunas have won their second FFL title, ten years after they first won the title which coincided with the inception of the league. The red half of San Marco had dominated the previous Filindostani competition when it was known as the Filindostan Football Festival. The Spartans won the title comfortably, after a late-season surge that saw most of their rivals, including their own rivals Venividicci, Perokojak, and Perokotyog falter out of contention. Venividicci were able to continue their streak of qualifying for the Champions' League/Cup - after defeating the Pink Lions on the final day of the season. Awni Makaay had struggled all season long, even having the blue half of San Marco at 6th on the halfway point of the season, and a stellar performance at the Challengers' Cup this season saved his job, and ironically enabled them to qualify for the Champions' League, as this led Filindostan to be awarded two spots in the coveted Champions' League.

Perokojak will be relishing Vicky Toledo's efforts this season as the club from Jakulta will return to multiversal competitions next season, as well as their fierce rivals, and Vicky's ex-lead Willy Gurnawan's Perotapam making it to the Challengers' Cup. Perouno, having only competed in the Vilitan Cove Invitational this season, snags the last Challengers' Cup spot after the only other team that can take the spot, Bagtasan, have lost to Fortunas in the Piala Pilindo final, completing the latter's domestic treble which also included the Piala Super Pilindo. This also enabled Perotres to qualify for the said invitational after changing the entry criteria to the best placed team not yet qualified compared to last season's best defensive team - which they would have gotten anyway.

Other notable performances include that of San Rafael Wardogs, which proved that keeping the core intact will have good effects, compared to their Kabunuklan rivals San Lomar, which changed managers and can only finish 14th. Perokotyog meanwhile has been a massive disappointment this season, with Harsono departing the club on Matchday 10, citing dissatisfaction and infighting among his players. They could only finish ninth, a far cry from their third place finish last season.

This season also saw the end of the Special Commissioned clubs in the second-tier FNL, with CSKA Filindo and Polisi Pilindo being excluded in the rankings, to allow three professional or semi-professional teams to represent the association in the Liga B Champions' Trophy, which led to Perobon leading the charge after winning their first FNL title, with Sporjak and Perobara getting the final spots.

Next season will be the last year of the moratorium prohibiting teams signing foreign players and the no relegation between the FFL and FNL. This year will also see the results of the first wave of professionalization of FNL clubs to see whether any clubs can be eligible for promotion to the FFL in the near future.
