IDEA: Add running a mate to the election game

Postby The Stalker » Wed Apr 01, 2020 4:48 pm

I did already create thread on the election board, but it's so busy there wasn't sure any MOD actually saw.
viewtopic.php?f=37&t=482781

I think they should add a running mate to this election game. Candidates could appoint a Vice General Secretary, maybe in round 3 or the final round.

I remember last time in the later rounds candidates that dropped out would endorsed other candidates. Think it be a cool new element to add this year. If too late for this time around, maybe in the next four years.

I think adding a running mate is a big part of the end game election in real life. Which this is clearly based off of the US President elections. I see it as President and Vice President, so WA Secretary-General and Vice Secretary-General. Or something like that. They would run as one ticket in the final round(s).

A seemingly innocuous April Fools event thrust into chaos with a mid-game feature add-on.

Love it!

The Running Mate (RM) section in our election profile is currently a block of text simply reading "None.".

When will candidates be able to choose a RM? Who is eligible to be selected as a RM? Caelapes' badge currently reads "WA Secretary-General"; what will the equivalent badge read for the victorious RM?

Okay it is IMPLEMENTED, but this may be the fastest I've ever coded anything, so it may be horribly buggy. Let me know of any issues!

Candidates have a new profile page where they can alter their Campaign Bulletin and nominate Running Mates. From that page:

You may nominate another nation to be your Running Mate in the election. This can be any other WA member nation except another candidate.

After you nominate a Running Mate, the other nation must agree to stand on your ticket by visiting the election page and confirming their acceptance.

You can dismiss a Running Mate at any time and replace them with someone else.

I've tested and you are indeed unable to nominate yourself, because you are a candidate.

Quick question, will candidates in the General Election portion still be able to drop out (for potential consolidation via this running mate thing)?

Another question, will moving regions affect the election? Will you drop out after moving, or do you have to stay in one region in order to stay in the election?

Yes, a candidate can drop out at any time until the very end. Running Mates can also be changed at any time all the way through.

Your region has no bearing on the Election at all. You can move regions freely without affecting your campaign or vote.

Sorry to post another request/question here but I was wondering if it would be possible for the winning pair to be Co Wa Secretary-Generals if both winning nations wanted it. This would be instead of something like a WA Secretary-General and a WA Vice Secretary General--if that's even in the works.

I realize that this might not make sense in all cases and would put more work on admin, but in the spirit of the event and some very silly April Fools' nonsense, I hope that it might be considered. The answer to this question has direct effect on what I'm going to be doing in the event and could very well change what happens immensely. You can't have April Fools' without a little bit of fun!

Can we add the option of two running mates for more political intrigue?

Edit: It woukd be way cooler if this wasn't so much like the US elections, and would definitely add more intrigue and backroom deals.

Interesting. However we have no electoral college in NS in this then this would be more like US elections. The vote right now is done by a popular vote.
