History: The New American Military Concord was created from the remnants of the Iowa National Guard and the Minnesota National Guard, gathering in the intersection between both states. Its founder, Commander of the Iowa National Guard Robert Caldwell, started off from a mere few houses in Northern Iowa, setting up a self-sufficient settlement on one of the most fertile lands in the country. The settlement continuously expanded over the next 40 years, with the National Guard building more buildings. A religious prophet, by the name of Charles Kavaungh, came to them with his group of evangelicals, and began to spread his faith towards the National Guard, setting up a church near in the Concord's main settlement, giving it new blood from the old militarism that consumed it, giving it a crusader element too. A full town was made, by the name of Concordia, proclaiming under the new flag, as a government had officially been founded.

The military had been organised, and Concordia had begun to expand, having few interactions in the mostly barren land, aside from bandits and such. The military was always well-organised, with a strong hierarchy and high discipline, in order to claim land against mutants, bandits and the like. The military also functioned as a police force, acting to secure territory for farming and for mining iron. The NAMC, however, after the death of Caldwell, had come under a new leader: Edward Leitzen. Leitzen has just come to power in the modern day. Let us see what he brings to the table...
Culture: Very religiously purist: follows a neo-Gnostic Christianity, formed from remaining parts of the Bible and other religions from the apocalypse. It believes there are three main deities:
-The Sadist, a Deity of War, Blood, Suffering, Disease and Violence
-The Lustful, Deity of Hunger, Thrist, Desire and Wantoness
-The Narcissist, Deity of Power, Wealth and Narcissism
Along with an ultimate deity from the Realm of Barbelo, whose no man can see, hear or feel. It does not have a name, and is only addressed by the name of the Great Spirit or the Ultimate Being. There are thirty angels, 6 led by each deity. The Ultimate Deity, it is said, created five gods, the three mentioned previously, and two more: the Concept and the Light. The Concept was a deity borne of knowledge, the only one who could comprehend the true nature of the universe, and her knowledge. From the Concept came the planets and intelligence, and from the Light came the stars and life. The Narcissist was too busy, meanwhile, painting art on these planets, with mountains, rivers and other landscapes, to which he declared that he had made great art. The Sadist and the Lustful, as the other three were crafting the universe, had corrupted the life living upon these planets, forging their own living sculptures, borne from blood and iron, in their own image: The Sadist had created man and the Lustful had created woman, both in their image.

After creating man and woman, however, the Narcissist had noticed what the two were up to and created them in their Garden of Eden, proclaiming to them that they shall live in riches forevermore, and in wealth and in spirit. That is when man turned from barbarian to hyena, and woman from prostitute to seductress. Both had become complacent, as the Narcissist had called upon the Concept and the Light for the former to give them language and writing and the latter to give them fire. They had obliged, but as both the Sadist and the Lustful, who were too busy creating violent creatures and large infertile deserts, had noticed this, they had taken man and woman out of Eden, declaring their interactions with the Narcissist, who had appeared to them in his snake-like form, to be an act of blasphemy and heresy against them.

They had set man and woman out into the wastes, leaving them to suffer and fight amongst all the terror they had left. The Concept and the Light had later attempted to fight this, but were exiled into the dark realm to face judgement for their "sin" of helping humankind. They had their last hurrahs, however, and gave the young species science and the forge, something that would help them persist in the new, darker world. With the Light purged, the skies had begun to darken, and the world had slowly begun to boil, and with the Concept's exile came new tides of ignorance, of dogmatism. From the old newspapers, scholars had declared that these new tides were beginning to take hold just as the world died, of hatred across the globe, from false followers of the prophets.

The Concept and Light, however, slowly began to claw their way out of the darkness, sending out messengers: the Concept had sent out a holy man known as Buddha, not as a deity, but as a prophet, along with Confucius, Tao and Zoroaster. The Light had sent out another, by the name of Jesus, along with a few others such as Moses, Abraham and Muhammad. However, thanks to the work of the Narcissist - who had now been left on his knees to the Sadist and yet who had regrown to become of equal power to the duo over time - to subvert the prophets, he had attracted men of power, men who had claimed to follow their message, to warp their words, to create false religions such as Islam, Buddhism and others to worship the tyrant deities. The followers of these religions are themselves to be left to their own devices. They are only unholy in mind, not in blood.

And now, man struggles against the unholy trinity of the Narcissist, the Sadist and the Lustful. When man finally conquers deity, when man unifies and becomes strong enough to take on the trinity, then the Concept and the Light shall release and destroy the beings, ending the age of suffering forevermore.

There is little social prejudice in NAMC society, a little ironic, but this is due to the nature of the religion, with much of the anti-LGBT parts having been lost to history and racism and sexism having been removed by history. Of course, the religion holds stereotypes, but it's not really unequal.

      The State Rangers serves as the main expeditionary force for the Company. Their tasks includes patrolling the surrounding regions, tracking bandits and raiders, spying other communities that might be hostile to the Company, and discovering new trade routes for merchants. The Rangers are more lightly-equipped than the Marshals, but carried advanced weaponry like that of the National Guard’s.
  • Sheriffs and Deputies: 130
    • Twelve deputies and a Sheriff for each county maintains order in the city and its surroundings, with responsibility for civilian security and emergency services. They are usually less equipped than the National Guard, but with more armaments than the Marshals. However, Deputies and the Sheriffs rarely uses firearms and instead resorts to diplomacy and non-lethal takedowns to impose law on criminals. Sheriffs are responsible for local security offices and county jails, though they might transfer dangerous criminals to the Company’s larger state jail.

Technology Level: Post-Collapse

History: Before the Collapse, the State government of Missouri provided citizens throughout the state, including those in St. Louis, designated shelter and quarantine locations to protect themselves from the deadly plague. This did not turn out to be effective, though, because a significant part of the population either left the region or became infected. Either way, the small community of remaining residents took it up to rebuild their city from scratch. As the downtown and surrounding regions were rendered uninhabitable due to the prevalence of infected creatures, they built a new settlement in St. Louis’ surrounding suburbs; claiming intact houses and demolishing the rest to create farms. Being on the confluence of the Mississipi and Missouri rivers, as well as the many smaller creeks such as the Deer Creek, the new settlement grew rich from farming and trading with the surrounding settlements.


Due to the many agriculture, brewing, and transport companies headquartered in the city before the Collapse, as well as the surrounding fertile lands, the small community soon cemented themselves as the prime hub of trade in the Missouri region. Over time, they cleared out St. Louis’ downtown regions, driving out the infected creatures, as well as estabilishing new bases in the abandoned buildings. Explorers set out camps as far as neighbouring Bellevile, guarding the city’s most important assets; bridges crossing the Mississipi. The community saw themselves as the legitimate successor of Missouri; and as such bonded together to found the Missouri Trading Company, establishing caravans across the plains and boats across the river. In many ways, the Company acts as a lifeblood for the surrounding communities; the Company’s caravans brought supplies and food, and in return estabilishing trading posts and buying local products.

Culture: Due to the hardships following the Collapse, the Company’s society had taken a closer approach to religion. As such, the society is mainly based off Midwestern culture with significant influences of religion, mostly Christianity. The Company uphelds democratic and libertarian values such as economic and political freedom, and are among the most friendly states to wandering survivors in the country. There is also a strong hierarchical tradition. Religion and state is not separated, as the Company’s shareholders are mainly religious foundations, counties, farmer unions, and small traders. There exists a strong sense of collectivism and democratic values within the Company; members are called citizens instead of employees, and positions such as managers and directors are democratically elected, instead of appointed.

The MCC is essentially a mix between a corporation and a state. Each citizen are a member of a shareholding institution of the Company, be it foundations, unions, counties, or even smaller trading companies. The assets of the MCC and it’s shareholders are separated, but in practice the MCC controls all of them except for the county governments. The Company’s Governor are elected via caucuses between the shareholders’ representatives; the Board of Supervisors, appointed by the shareholders, is the legislative branch of state. The Commissioners are independent officials elected by individual citizens that act as an audit and judicial agency for the Company. St Louis itself is divided into several counties that follow the traditional American county administrations. These counties exists as an administration for individual citizens, independent and separate from the Company. While independent counties govern their respective areas of the city, control of trading outposts and bases are administered by the Company. In short, the counties are part of public life for citizens; the Company their work.

Law enforcement is conducted by the Company in behalf of individual counties. A Sheriff is elected from Company-chosen candidates, and the Sheriffs are subordinate to the Company’s judicial system. Trials are held by Company Commissioners with civilian jurors. The abandoned STC Warehouse located near Kosciusko, St. Louis, has been refurbished and turned into a penitentiary – criminals are either sent here or to work in Company projects such as building caravans or boats. A public defender is assigned to each trial. For minor crimes such as thievery, criminals are often assigned to community service, instead of harder punishments.

Religion plays an important role within the MCC community, with almost 80 percent of the citizens adhering to Christianity, courtesy of the hardships experienced in the Collapse. Several branch of churches estabilished themselves within the city, most notably Evangelical Protestants, Lutherans, Baptists, and the Latin Church, a splinter of the Catholic church. Most of these churches operate their own religious foundations, which provided most of the healthcare and welfare operations in the MCC. They also act as shareholders within the company, which is why caravans often carried religious missionaries with them. The Company granted religious freedom to citizens, and the community is highly tolerant of other beliefs, including Atheism. Conservative values such as the right to bear arms, limited government, job expansions and others are respected in the Company charter and made up for significant portions of the law

Regarding neutral land, because most of Missouri is neutral land, is it something like a wasteland or is it still intact? Like the farmlands and prairies of Missouri and the Mark Twain Forest is till intact, instead of a wasteland. And also, does the major rivers freeze in the winter?

Unless it's green or black on the map, it'll be as right as rain.

History:The history of the Khans is shrouded in the myths and legends endemic to oral history, The Khan is a figure held in reverence and utmost respect. It is said that the man appeared from the corrupted hell of Seattle, with knowledge and skills from beyond to aid him in integrating or destroying all who would dare oppose him. He began a bloody conquest in central Idaho in the year of 2057, his goal was simply to reunite America under a single banner, to provide security and peace to those within it, he called it Pax Americana, he would give those he set his sights on to surrender under peaceful terms, but he would bring the hammer of god down on those who resisted. Gaining the loyalty of a small band of raiders, a number of settlements, and he would proceed to conquer, subjugate, or vassalize every community, farm, and building from Ogden to Spokane.

By 2085, The Khan had amassed an Empire, the veritable first of Post-Collapse America. While those within his realm saw the peace and tranquility that followed, the looming shadow of the Khanate put the fear of God into everyone west of the Colorado Basin. The Khan's last campaign would be west into Oregon, it was here, at the Battle of Deschutes, where a grand mass of those who had been driven out or wronged by the Khan and his armies ambushed the Khan's party and the battalion he traveled with. The partisans were killed to the last, and yet so too were the Hordesmen. After news of such a massacre reached the lesser Khans and generals, scouting party after scouting party was sent out to search for their fallen leader. In 2096, four years after the search began, it ended with no way to know if The Khan had well and truly died. Within a year, the Empire has fractured and warred against itself, the various Khans, Generals, and groups held together by the glue that was The Khan no longer cared for one another. By 2115, all that remained of the Empire were two counties, with all of it's conquested land having been deserted, or seceded... at least, that's how the legend goes.

The Khanate of Idaho soon faded into obscurity, where once caravans carried of a massive swathe of land held by a man who was all but indomitable from El Paso to Milwaukee, now tell wives tales of an overly egotistical raider who got too big for his britches. The looming spectre of the Khanate is no more, those still remaining loyal to the cause, now hunker down in those two counties, hoping, and praying for the day their glorious leader returns, to lead them back to lost glory. As for the Khan, all that remains of him is a collection of commissioned paintings and a scant few photographs of those he met in good terms during his conquests.

Culture: Khanate culture was very carefully molded by The Khan to put a very large amount of weight behind those who are hard as rock, both physically and mentally. On more than one occasion, people have died in the initiation rites to become a citizen. These rites continue today, and while non-citizens and citizens are treated equally, the legal rites citizens have outweigh the rights of non-citizens, such as the right to own land, serve in the army, own personal property, as well as take slaves. Unlike non-citizens, slaves have no legal, or universal rights outside of a few property protection laws to avoid their untimely deaths or improper treatment.

Outside of these sometimes lethal rites, citizenship is granted to those women who birth in excess of seven children, slaves who endure a decade and a half of service under their masters, and soldiers who are wounded in battle (those that are killed pass their citizenship on to their eldest child posthumously). Crime in the khanate is given swiftly and brutally. A 720 page epic called 'The Tome of Scales' is a massive dictation of legal rights and punishments written by The Khan himself, and copied a number of times under his watchful eye. In the years since, some copies have fallen into disrepair, but the fear of The Khan himself prevents any unauthorized copies, or God forbid, modifications. As dictated in this book, most crimes fall under death or maiming, with very few exceptions.

The Rites to become a citizen are nowhere near the rites to become a soldier, in such rites, the enlistee has a very high chance of dying. These rites last near to a month of grueling beatings, exercise, undernourishment and pain. It is designed to weed out the weak and meek, but there is no loss of honor in giving up, as it is recognized that not all citizens of the empire are from the same stock, and contribute elsewhere.

Security of trade and of the people is also heavily emphasized, it is commonly said that a child could walk down the worst parts of a settlement in Khanate, with a bag of gold dragging behind him, and the child would not lose a single coin.

Flag (Optional): Solid red, with black eagle holding a rifle in talons and eating a snake in the center. A white star exists in the upper corner, and a white stripe runs along the bottom. It looks like a combination of an anarcho-syndicalist Mexico and color-swapped California.
Governing Ideology: Militaristic, Neo-Aztec, Libertarian Socialism.

Technology Level: Primarily a mixture of post-collapse, metal, and stone, with a small stockpile of pre-collapse hardware that exists, confiscated from old border outposts

History: With origins in Puerto Peñasco and Santa Clara, in northern Senora, Mexico, an initial band of like-minded Zapatista sympathizers had formed in the wake of the destruction of the United States of Mexico. Some had already prepared for it in some form or another, given Mexico's rampant problems with organized crime and government corruption. The Collapse was merely a sudden additional problem. Regardless, living in the desert also comes with a base level of preparedness for surviving the heat and isolation. This group of survivors called themselves the Republic of Aztlan.

The republic's initial goals were returning to the rule of law, maintaining a level of comfort, and securing the mouth of the Rio Colorado to gain arable land. The first two goals were partial failures, but expansion proved to be easier as no other group existed in their path. They expanded quite far until encountering the hostile wastes of Tijuana and San Diego simultaneously, wiping out much of the western expedition. The ensuing scandal surrounding the disaster eliminated most of the republic's government, turning it into more of a junta state. Infighting and bad luck plagued the country for some time until Ensamblador Rico Gonzalez reformed the government and procured the funds and materials to begin a new expedition north, into Mexicali and the former United States. And so, New Aztlan was created as a colony closely subservient to it's parent country.

The expedition members, so-called "Aztlánitos," settled in Mexicali and the surrounding land, and eventually busted down the old rusty border fence and headed into California. By the time they reached the decaying town of Calexico, their resources were stretched thin and the expedition had to halt. The Republic kept in touch using a system of messengers and local governors to spread news and Aztlan's laws. The bind between the two groups was solid, but would eventually be challenged by New Aztlan's assimilation of white American settlers and refugees. New Aztlan's land was also much greener, being based almost entirely around the Colorado, and so it had to provide for the benefactors down south. This arrangement, like the allegiance, was fine at first and compensation was handsome, but the pay for New Aztlan's produce would decline over time. Both of these changes led to a culturally distinct breadbasket being regulated and unfairly financed by a government to the south that was beginning to be seen as a freeloading, detached oppressor.

It would not be long before New Aztlan declared independence. The war was bloody, but short as neither nation maintained a large enough military to draw out the battle. Peace was achieved, and instead of a republic, the military ruled alongside the Ensamblador, a "guerilla democracy," so to speak. Ejército de Nuevo Aztlán was born as a functional nation shaped by the wasteland of the Southwest border region. With peace and order achieved, New Aztlan eventually came to form their own companies of expeditions, spreading northward and to the east, settling many desert homesteads and ruined cities in southern California's Inland Empire and southern Arizona. Stability has been maintained thanks to a diligent guard of their settlements and a healthy trade of food and supplies to keep population numbers and income on the rise. Sometimes, drastic measures need to be taken, like in the decision to cut all ties with the mother country down south, the existence of which is now doubtful. The nation is warm and welcoming, but quick to draw weapons if newcomers slip up or refuse to return the favor.

Culture: Chicano, Mexican-American, many mixed-race. Religions include Roman Catholicism, a kind of Santeria that combines Catholicism with the Aztec pantheon, and atheists. Born out of the desert, these people can handle heat and adjacent harsh conditions. They are also masters with glass and adobe. Chief languages include Spanish, English, Spanglish creole, and a resurgent form of Nahuatl.
