For an Assembly that works smarter

Read my Campaign Dispatch! :)

My name's Tinhampton and you can trust me. Unfortunately, trust in the position of World Assembly Secretary-General has been eroded through four years of big government, big words, and empty promises. What has Caelapes and his FULLCOMMUNISM brought to us? That's right.

It's time for change. It's time for an Assembly that works smarter - not harder. It's time for an Assembly that delivers broad and cohesive change - rather than obsesses over small and irrelevant details. Tinhampton is the only candidate in the right position to deliver change for the better. Are you ready?

What will Tinhampton do?
  • Protect the superdelegates: We know from both Secretary-Generalship races so far that, if we abolish the extra voting power and security that delegates guarantee, the World Assembly decays into mob rule more often than not. Every telegram inbox in every member state becomes an opportunity to steal every vote - equally, of course. This is elitist, wrong, and damaging for the everyman in charge of the average member state. Subsidiarity ought to be king, but its princes are the delegates and those who keep communities safe, secure and great.
  • Fight to abolish Rule 4: Since its introduction a decade ago, Rule 4 has largely gutted the ability of authors to accurately and passionately write about the attributes that nominees for badges bring to the table. Some of the people reading this thread remember what happened to Anime Daisuki's Commendation the first time around - a perfectly good text canned because it made truthful observations about our world! Only the extraction of Rule 4 from the Security Council will ensure that freedom of expression returns to the Security Council.
  • Declare a war on GA waste: The committee-only rule, the Honest Mistake rule, the ban on NatSov-only arguments in repeals, limits on blockers - these are all serious but unnecessary dangers to creative and legislative freedom in the General Assembly, equal to Rule 4 in the threat they pose. Tinhampton is the only candidate who will fight to her back teeth to ensure that these rules are removed, and other rules which pose unnecessary burdens to authors, nations, and gnomes alike are stripped.
  • Listen to you: There are too many candidates in this race who will only listen to their own special-interest group! There are too many candidates in this race who are already bribing the electorate to vote for them! I have trawled gameplay and roleplay alike, the General Assembly and the General forum, and I've even got an issue co-authorship credit along the way. How many candidates have that sort of experience? At least one of them has - and her name is Tinhampton. I stand on my own two legs and my good conscience.
  • Refuse to give up: Peace, truth, justice, drywittedness - those are the attributes of the World Assembly, and my words and actions over the years demonstrate that I live up to them. Good policies are important, but so is a good character. You've seen both on this page. When you vote for Tinhampton, you haven't voted based on some food or a mass telegram: you've voted because you care about what I have to offer.
Vote for a smarter Assembly: VOTE FOR TINHAMPTON

I will offer everybody who votes for me my silent, implied gratitude.

Other candidates - even those as esteemed as 9003, Morover, and Kuriko - have promised the electorate at-large special treats if they vote for them. I am not in the business of bribery, and I will never be. I will not offer a single item of value, nor send out a single paid-for mass telegram, promoting my message - and I never will.

What do I stand for? Truth, justice, international peace, the power of free markets, a small but flexible World Assembly - and you. What don't I stand for? Corruption, dirty tricks, and special interests. Now which set of values are you aligned with?

A question: if as I understand correctly, the SG has no power (in terms of being coded into the game, I guess?), how will you achieve what you promise- beyond using the “moral authority” of the position?

  • Protecting the power of delegates means protecting a part of the game mechanics. This can be easily achieved by withstanding calls to the contrary.
  • Note the wording of my campaign. I will fight to abolish SC Rule 4 and various rules in the GA that impede creative freedom in the WA. I do not envisage being given the powers to directly abolish them, but I will use my will and my power to show my support in favour of their removal from the respective rulesets. If I succeed, then that'll be very good!
  • Every good leader listens to his people... or her people, for that matter ;)

That's not rewarding, either - that's called treating. Treating is when you offer inducements such as food to corruptly influence a member of the electorate into voting (as is the case with your macaroni) or not voting. Treating is immoral, and I don't do immoral.

TINHAMPTON: Imagine if I offered everybody who voted for me a free bazooka. I would be using something of monetary value to influence those people into voting for me. That is called bribery. My campaign does not do bribery and it does not do treating: it does peace, truth, and justice. In any event, I do not need to offer people free bazookas when I am a very well-known figure with a good and solid platform.

Outer Sparta wrote:What are you going to do to protect the delegates?

The current privileges awarded to the delegates must be maintained at all costs. Why change a popular and perfectly functional system?

Capitalism works, especially when everybody plays by the same rules and guidelines - and I'll demonstrate that if, when, and as I take office.

My policies are based on evidence, not emotion and certainly not free lunches. Everything you see here is open, honest and above-board. Whether you choose to paint them as right or wrong is your call, but then it isn't necessarily the gospel truth either... not that an atheist like myself can tell the difference anyway :P

The World Assembly is bloated enough as it is, and deserves a candidate who will fight to excise its worst parts while keeping the good bits. That's why I'll be re-enrolling onto the ballot paper for Rounds 2 and 3 - no matter what. The message will get out, it will be heard, and it will be reacted to!

In light of recent claims made by the opposition campaign, I can confirm that this campaign is being singlehandedly controlled and managed - or, depending on how you spin it, malmanaged - by a single forty-something woman in north-east London. I have principles, and they will not be sacrificed, surrendered, scrambled, or shot through the heart, I'm too late, I give love a bad name :P

Somebody voted for me earlier but they seem to have lost that vote down the back of the sofa - 6 Become 5 - Bureaucratic FREE-MARKET CAPITALIST SPICE signing off for the next few milliseconds before I trundle to somebody else's campaign headquarters, which is probably not going to be a good idea at this time :P

Ask yourself this: How many other candidates want you to be able to repeal resolutions simply because nations should be free to do whatever they want, within reason? :P

ROUND 1: 11 votes for Tinhampton (out of ~4,400)
ROUND 2: TINHAMPTON RIDES AGAIN

I would like to thank all 11 of you (out of almost 4,400) who voted for me - ranking as one of the top forty-five candidates in this first round of polling. That's about one in every 400 voters; unfortunately, circumstances prevent us from forming a football team. My message may be loud and clear, but it requires you to spread it far and wide. Alas, that has not happened so far.

And even now, despite having been declared "unviable," we ride again for Round 2. This time, our platform may be the same, but we should hopefully return a little bit stronger for the grand finale. I remain the only candidate in the right position to deliver change for the better.

Are you ready for an Assembly that works smarter?

AN ANNOUNCEMENT FROM TINHAMPTON - embargoed until 2359 BST, 02-Apr-2020
It's game over from our end. After careful consideration and a grand total of five votes out of 3,650 or so, we have decided that expressing support for Auralia - a nation which stands for many of the same values that we did throughout our campaign, and whose two main precepts are not in contradiction with ours - is the best path going forward. In any event, onwards to a smarter-working Assembly!
