Gagiumish Olympiad Committee Building
Laurillac, Capital District

The President of the GOC walked into the room, noting the attendees sitting at attention along the table. He slumped into his end of the table chair, and turned his attention to the television screen at the end of the room. The Committee's President cleared his throat and said, "The presentation may begin."

A lean man from the assembled attendees got up and made his way to the screen, clicker in hand. He said, "Thank you" before a chart of Gagium's medals during the last Olympics came up, as compared to those of other nations. "Ten countries won medals in the last Olympics. A total of three hundred medals were won, of which a hundred and two of those were gold medals. Gagium won six golds and nineteen total medals - One seventeenth of all gold medals and roughly a fifteenth of all medals awarded."

"So the question you may be asking is, what gives?" The display changed, now showing a chart of how many athletes the nation sent as compared to those other nations sent. The presenter continued. "This. Despite having the athletes and enough people who could contend in these sports, we sent only a fraction of the athletes other nations have, and in only a portion of the sports. Why did this happen? For one, we simply didn't have the money to send all the athletes we could. Due to the relatively low popularity of the Olympics before they actually began, we didn't have the tools nor the means of launching a recruitment campaign for serious athletes. As we're all aware by now, we didn't have any shortage of e-sport athletes, who, despite their lack of sportsmanship overall, have garnered immense coverage and attention to these forms of sports."

The screen now showed a chart of reported revenue during, before, and after the games. "As a result of our participation in the Olympics, however, private donors and corporate sponsors have led to a massive increase in revenue, as shown here. We've raked in roughly a billion dollars during the games, and nearly half a billion in the days after."

"I would now like to introduce our Committee President to speak."

The GOC President walked up to the screen, which now displayed the Committee's logo. "Thank you. Moving on to the future, with our new capabilities granted by these Olympic games, we are able to eye sending in athletes in practically every upcoming event. Our associates have already begun seeking out athletes for the Winter games, which are practically guaranteed to occur. I would also like to introduce one of our other ideas."

The display showed several photos of the city of Almaval, a city of roughly 254,000 people living within city limits and among the coldest population centers in the nation. "Several of our associates and the city of Almaval have come to us with an interest in bidding for hosting the Winter Olympics. Almaval's weather during the winter months is cold enough to support snow nearly the entire season, and the city already has a number of sporting facilities in place to support a hosting of the Winter Olympics. Additionally, the city already attracts numerous tourists due to its skiing industry, and the costs for other venues to be constructed are relatively low."

The Committee's President continued speaking about what a bid would mean for the nation for awhile, before the assembled Committee members took a vote on whether they would support a bid or not. The votes results were 12-3.

C'mon guys let's revive this

Wan Sot Karidaron, HRI

It was the National Football Conference Championship Game. In On Karidaron is playing against To Wan Sot Karidaron, the 4th seed versus the 2nd seed. The fact that IOK had even gotten to this stage of the competition was incredible, they finished 6th in the NFC with a 5 and 9 record. However, IOK had gotten 2nd place in the NFC South division, and had advanced as 4th seed to the playoffs, the only better team in their division was their current rivals, To Wan Sot. IOK had came off of last week with an absolute banger of a last second score, 75 yard TD pass for the game winning touchdown on the last play of the game against 1st seed Rkaridaron. TWS, however, came off of a much easier 26-10 victory over 3rd seed Kanar On Karidaron for the Conference Championship.

By the end of the first quarter IOK was leading by a 40-yard Field Goal, 0-3. Should the result hold, In On Karidaron would have made National Conference history, with the largest upset of all time Playoff-wise. It was still magnificent that they even got to see the Playoffs, but they could achieve what seemed impossible 15 weeks ago at the start of the season.

The result did not hold. With 1:39 on the clock in the 2nd Quarter, TWS found their receiver wide open for a 20 yard Touchdown Pass. Heading into the locker room at the break the score was a small one, 7-3. IOK's coaching staff were fuming that the wide-out was left open on an in-range play. The TWS coaches weren't all that happy, either. It had taken them 28 and a half minutes to put points on the board, the offense had stalled out in the first half.

The teams came back from the break, the 3rd quarter was about to begin. To Wan Sot's kick went out for a touchback. IOK started with the ball on their 25. A short gain of 4 made it 2nd and 6 on the 29. Then IOK hit the ground. In the next 4 plays, 3 of them were running plays. On 2nd and 6, IOK rushed for 8 yards. On 1st and 10 on the 37, IOK threw for an incompletion. Again on 2nd down, they ran the ball, making it a nice 20 yards on the ground, 1st and 10 on the TWS 43. Another running attempt would get it to the 37, 2nd and 5. At that point TWS caught on. On 2nd down, IOK called another rushing play. TWS called a blitz. The IOK runners made it a single yard, 3rd and 4 on the 36. Finally, IOK took to the air, and found a man open in the end zone. Nope, bobbled it and dropped it. IOK had to call for a field goal, of which they made. 7-6, TWS.

TWS made an amazing single-play drive to put the score up to 14-6, TWS. IOK suffered a fumble on the 25 yard line about 2 drives later, of which TWS returned for a touchdown, now 21-6. TWS, to close out the quarter, hit a chip-shot field goal, to put the score at 24-6.

IOK needed at least 3 touchdowns to win the game, a feat almost impossible to do in a 15 minute timespan, while giving the ball away as well. IOK had gotten down to the 20 on their first drive, but the drive stalled out there. Those were their last points, a field goal to bring it 24-9. On the other side of the ball a few drives later, TWS did the same, making it a comfortable 27-9 lead that would end that way.

IOK's unlikely playoff season was over, and To Wan Sot Karidaron was headed to the National Championship.

Wan Karidaron, HRI

In the Rhinish Football Conference Championship Game, the Wan Karidaron team was facing the other team from the capital, Wan Sot Karidaron. Wan Karidaron, the 4th seed, had pulled a massive 19-3 upset against the league's top scoring team, On Karidaron, as the other top scoring team, WSK, had put up a 27-10 game against the 3rd seed Aran Rkaridaron.

Both teams went into the First Quarter essentially equal, they both had huge games last week, nothing too tight to get them too stressed. Wan Karidaron, if they win this game, would go to the National Championships as a Fourth Seed, a basically impossible feat.

With 5:29 left on the clock, WK had kicked the first field goal, and points of the very boring game. The quarter would end 3-0 WK.

Second quarter, a little bit more scoring. WSK would put one through the uprights, 3-3. Another attempt by WSK would be blocked, recovered by the blocking team, and there'd be a turnover there. On that very drive, WK had kicked it through, 6-3. And that would be the half, a boring one. Looking to pump some energy into the game, WK and WSK coaches would devise their plan to put some bigger point numbers on that board.

3rd quarter, WSK gets the ball down to the 5. 3 incomplete passes, a chip shot field goal will bring the game even 6-6. The very next drive for WSK would see a big catch possibly made, only for it to be intercepted by the WK deep Safety, and a touchback to bring the ball back to the 25. That would be the game-decider right there, my friends. WSK had their only good possibility to win this game in the 3rd, but was intercepted in the end zone. Wan Karidaron would march the ball downfield to the 40. The drive stalled there, and an amazing field goal from over 50 yards out would bring the score to 9-6.

Going into the 4th, WSK attempted time after time again to get the ball into the end zone. Another pick and a fumble would diminish these dreams. No points were scored on either side in the 4th, and so concludes the RFC Championship Game of 2020, possibly the most boring. Both Quarterbacks were 0% on their Drives getting into the end zone, and Wan Karidaron had stumbled their way, as a fourth seed, into the nation's largest game.

With the beginning of spring and the grip of winter finally starting to fade, thousands flock to Shiyato, a decently sized coastal town. Most would think the influx of visitors arrive to enjoy the warm water and the beautiful scenery. However, a majority of visitors make the trek to spectate the Formula Drift championship. FD isn't a new sport in Horikoru, it has been around since 1987, however with the explosion of drifting around the world. Formula Drift has received quite a bit of screen time.

The Championship has two main races, the first half of the races are solo runs, where the racer is judged by the following criteria; Speed, line, style, and speed. But by far the most popular race is the tandem drift. A tandem drift is when two (or more) competitors go head to head tearing up the track. At the end of the race the winner is decided via a majority vote from the spectators. Requirements for participants isn't very strict. With a pre-race inspection and a few requirements. The championship truly is a working-mans sport.

Now, enough about the rules and history, let's get into the first rounds results:

This championship has definitely been an interesting one so far. Visitors numbers have been cut in half due to the looming shadow of the Coronavirus. But that isn't stopping the most dedicated. The first round kicked off with some gnarly solo runs. A fairly notable run being done by veteran Kytao Ungen where he successfully executed a 360 entrance into the first turn of the track. The crowd went insane, Kytao is known for pushing the limits of his Kuruzu GT34.

Driver Kono Kiyomi in the lead of a three-person tandem

The tandem runs started this Wednesday and put out some surprising results. With one more week to go, hopes are high that underdog Kono Kiyomi will steal the title during the face off series. Here are this weeks results.

Tandems:
*1st Heat: Kure Hidao
*2nd Heat: Kono Kiyomi
*3rd Heat: Asato Yoichi
*4th Heat: Takei Yuudai
*5th Heat Bando Masato

Solo Top 3:
*Kyato Ungen
*Ozawa Nobi
*Fukumoto Sakori
