The Debt War (IC MT)

Postby Vernon Bluff » Thu Mar 05, 2020 11:16 pm

After years of economic growth in this budding republic, a slowing stage is occurring and with it, a chaos is brewing. William Ngunda, the 19th president of Vernon Bluff sits quietly in his office. The neatly arranged room has never seen a change once Ngunda came into office as if it was a static image of old law books and the single decoration of a ceremonial Y'du mask collecting dust on one side of the office. A large national flag blew in the windy day just outside his office and the now 61-year-old man looked at it with intense black eyes as if he was a young man dreading boot camp. He thought intensely about what brought him to this situation, from the hero of the nation to enemy all in just four years. Was it the new taxes he implemented or the toxic river dumping? He did not know which was the breaking point but at least his nation had skyscrapers now as if it was worth becoming a pale imitation of other nations. However, soon he found himself wondering what would happen next, this conflcit brewing right before his eyes.

It all started with the massive loans taken out to build Port Gregory from overpopulated generic poor capital to a sophisticated downtown living center. The city went from one lonely skyscraper to now ten in a span of just four years but the money had to come from somewhere and with many locals living off dollars a day it wasn't coming internally. So a campaign to build these new fancy buildings was started with Ngunda wrangling in foreign businesses to invest in the country and the rest coming from a now troubled business partner. A country by the name of The Socialist States of Crysuko agreed to loan large amounts of money to Vernon Bluff. With such blind convictions for growth Ngunda and the rest of his cabinet took this offer with no problems, that is until now. The economic situation is slowing in the country as it is in the entire region and with that is the nation's ability to pay back the large loan taken out from Crysuko. The interest rate has grown tremendously and with multiple requests to lower the rate being ignored, it seems the nation is on the brink of destruction.

The only viable option was to stop paying it or at least it seemed that was the right choice. When the public heard of drowning debt crisis it exploded in frustration. Riots broke out all throughout Port Gregory demanding some sort of change or solution. However, soon it grew into a hatred for Crysuko and multiple businesses related to them was attacked and destroyed. It finally came to the embassy in the downtown that came under attack last night to quell the rioting into satisfaction. It took multiple attempts to break into the compound as gunfire killed some rioters but when the police joined the rioting it was just minutes before fires engulfed the building and the rampage tore through. It now lay in ruin with police searching the rubble for treasure or anything valuable as its occupants laid dead piled into a pyramid of death.

Now Ngunda knew the Crysuko would not let this go without some sort of punishment. The president allowed himself just a few minutes of thoughts in his empty office before he would go out and be the leader of his nation in whatever came next. Maybe even turn his unpopularity upsidedown, but that was just a thought for now he needed to meet his generals to see the current situation.

The news had reached the Crysukon mainland shortly thereafter, and people here were livid. The senate and councils were filled with people demanding war of varying levels, and the party could not ignore it any longer. Army leader Alueck Sangh made a speech regarding the subject.

"Comrades of the nation, as you are no doubt aware we have been suddenly and deliberately attacked by a nation we were trying to help, their selfish and blind nationalism has left good investments in economy and infrastructure in ruins, with our own people losing their lives in the process. We will not stand idly by and allow this crime to pass, with the situation in Vernon Bluff one of chaos, the military will have to step in to restore order."

The plan was relatively simple, to use the navy to blockade them while occupying the outer islands to form a ring of steel which their own meagre military is not equipped to break, the defenders would be begging for mercy inside of 2 weeks.

Of the 6 battle groups sent, they would consist of the following:
1 aircraft carrier
1 copter carrier
5 cruisers
10 missile destroyers
2 air defence frigates
2 fleet tenders
5 submarines.

Along with this, a division of 15,000 marines was being mobilised to act as the occupation forces. It would take a few days for the forces to muster and prepare before making the attack, later the day of the speech, the foreign department sent a formal declaration of war to Vernon Bluff, detailing the extent of the conflict and reason for it happening.

The arrival of the Declaration of War from Crysuko sent shocks across the country. This was the first time in its history war with another country was coming. However, an odd sense of excitement came over the populous. If there was one thing that was working in the country it was its nationalism and many came out unto the streets to show support and stand with unity for this conflict. The lines for military service lined up across the country but as its citizens were preparing for war and excited for this others were not.

Congressional House

In a unanimous vote, Congress has declared war on Crysuko citing its predatory loans and protection of its citizens against it. The room was a buzz of different representatives talking about what was about to come but oddly, president Ngunda was not present for these talks and instead was in a back room with the top generals of the military.

"It's going to be hard." A man said lighting a cigar in full military uniform staring at Ngunda across the table. "We are going to need international support to win this as any fool will see they are simply going to block our single port. These bluffs are truly a blessing and a curse it seems as an invasion would be time-consuming and costly but blockading us is really going to put a strain on our fighting ability." He said again puffing out a cloud of smoke.

"Well, General Houndie what do you suggest?" Ngunda asked in a nervous tone. Around the president were the leaders of each division of the military. They all looked upon Houndie who lead the Army component of the military and was the most respected general of the group.

"The Blackrock Islands just off the coast are crucial to keeping the Crysuko away from the shore. It seems obvious they are coming to us. Depending on the fleet size we can judge if they are going to blockade us or try to invade Port Gregory. However, my bet is on the former and keeping the Blackrocks in our hands is vital if we are to win this conflict. I know the islands have coastal guns and if we are fast enough we can place more and reenforce some of the aging bunkers. While the islands are under siege we can prepare our defenses of Port Gregory and negotiate for some nations to come unto our side. I feel this is the best plan of action gentleman but I must ask what do you all say?" Houndie said sternly and was awarded with just approving headshakes from the other generals.

Another general spoke up before the meeting was adjourned, it was Fleet Admiral Joss Remer, the youngest of the commanders but well-liked by his sailors. " Our Navy stands no chance against whatever they may bring and if our ships sink near our shallow bay it would be a crime to waste lives and material like that. I suggest I take the fleet and head to Puerto Verda with them until our time to strike is clear again. I would take the bare minimum crew as to leave our nation with plenty of manpower. Do you all agree?" Which again was met with approving headshakes.

Ngunda got up and finished. "Well, men lets not waste any more time we have a country to defend!" With that, the meeting was over and the prep for the coming battle began.

Eventually, all battle groups having merged with an additional 10 corvettes per squadron would set off, 2 independent packs of 5 submarines would also take part to enforce the blockade by roaming the sea around the enemy land, independent of the groups at large. It was an undersea blockade as much as one on the surface.

Along with the fleet was 8 amphibious assault carriers, each ferrying 2000 troops in each, with one at half complement. With fast mechanised landing craft, and abundant air and naval support, taking their strategic objectives was seen as easy, and morale was high among the troops, fed propoganda about how their mission was to restore order to a land turned to chaos.

Meanwhile at the Aportik missile base, cluster missiles containing thermobaric MIRV warheads were being loaded onto the facilities 4 launch platforms, an XABM would be capable of reaching near anywhere in the world in a little over an hour, their plan would be to wait for the invasion forces to paint a target, presumably large concentrations of enemy troops in stubborn defensive positions which standard munitions would struggle to deal with. A cluster of bunker busters striking at hypersonic velocity would dig anyone out.

The marines weren't denied their own heavy support, with a plan being once the islands were secure in the initial assault, to set up artillery fire bases to ensure they'd be held securely against counterattack.

In neat formation, the fleet made best possible speed towards enemy waters. Admiral Antonio Salazar knew his reputation was in the line, a severe man favouring aggressive tactics, he would pull no punches to ensure that absolute victory would be attained.

It would take 4 days at sea to reach the enemy's territorial seas, and to begin the attack in earnest.

While your concern for the state of the world is admirable, it is unlikely that this conflict will be a bloody and lasting one. Vernon Bluff has descended into madness, and we are taking the initiative to restore order and ensure the legitimacy of the government to prevent further disasters.

Furthermore, it is to prevent further acts of politically motivated violence against Crysukon people and business who have taken root there, as well as any further jingoistic malevolence that may result from a failed state. Your notice of the matter is appreciated, but ultimately is not necessary.
Yours sincerely, KM.

Meanwhile, a team of spies had been sent with the task force and would be inserted onto the enemy mainland under cover of night. Equipped with forged paperwork and a convincing cover story, they would observe the situation from within and attempt to covertly destabilise where they could, the team of 3 being explosives experts, this would no doubt be done with great emphasis.

The usual laid back atmosphere of Port Gregory had changed drastically and a convey of soldiers were moving across the city. It truly was a miracle that the high bluffs surrounded the countries sea coast and the only low point was that of Port Gregory. It truly was the only spot an army would attempt an invasion if they wanted to capture the largest settlement and capital of the country. While the Vernon Bluff Armed Forces were at a disadvantage with maneuvrability they made up with the sheer amount of volunteer work to turn the bluffs surrounding the city into a fortress. Bunkers and coastal guns were already in place and had been dug deep within the hard bluffs during the 1980s but needed attentional guns to fight off what was coming. Hope for a victory was high with news of a few nations coming in to help the nation fight against this menace of a state. The Vernon Bluff Army usually numbered around 20,000 but with reserves and militias being called up the number was swelling to well over 30,000 soldiers for the defense of the country. However, most of these reserves and militias were to be used for patrolling and peacekeeping in the city. Meanwhile, preparations for the Blackrock islands were in full swing.

The islands were small rocky things. However, bunkers had been placed on the largest island, Keystone, during the 1980s defense upgrades. After much studying of the islands, it was realized that a defense of the islands was not practical and instead of mining the surrounding water and destruction of any usable structures was to be the plan. This did not mean the islands would fall so easily the 4th Coastal Battery was to inflict any damage to the incoming fleet with its three 130 53 tk guns and 10-inch guns in addition to launching YJ-83 missiles before destroying these platforms and retreating back to the coast. The islands now were going to be used as a distraction and to test the Crysuko fleet and hopefully by the time the battle is over the island will be of no use to any side.

Thank you for your concern in this dreadful conflict. I will be the first to come to a peace talk to avoid the bloodshed of my people. However, the Crysuko are hellbent on this sick war and I cannot wait for peace to come so fast. I will protect my country the best I can and if the Crysuko are ready to come to the peace talks I will be the first to shake hands with my foe, as I believe this world needs more peace in it. Dear Secretary Malell,
while I personally applaud your will to stabilize a country apparently in upheaval, to our knowledge, there was a short bit of unrest, which resulted in the attacks on Crysukan Businesses and its Embassy. By now, the situation seems to have calmed down and President Ngunda appears to be very much in charge and legitimate by the laws of his country, so a Stabilization Mission, especially one accompanied by a declaration of war, does not appear to be necessary.
You are sending very mixed signals here.

With respect to a fellow foreign officer, the matter is broadly out of my hands. You seem an intelligent sort, but it doesn't behoove you to think so short term. There is clearly an undercurrent of toxicity which will need to be uprooted to prevent it from recurring, and not merely against us, who knows who the next scapegoat could be? The exact same process took place in Germany during the 1930s, and this is a lesson from history to prevent a potential genocide and a laundry list of atrocities. This is chemotherapy, painful and harrowing but ultimately lifesaving.
Sincerely, KM.

On the flagship of the invasion armada, the CSS Bakunin, Admiral Salazar gave a speech to the troops regarding the situation, to keep spirits high and minds focused.

"Comrades of all branches who can hear this, you have no doubt been briefed on our mission, to burn out the toxic nationalism that has befallen Vernon Bluff, that has caused numerous Crysukon civilian deaths and destruction of property. We will punish this arrogance, and seal their den in a mighty ring of steel which will only break when they fall to their knees and beg for our forgiveness! They will abandon their posts! They will abandon their homes! They will abandon all hope!

A mighty cheer went up, with a few days still left on their voyage, morale continued to climb. Back home, a second wave of fleet tenders which would arrive behind the main fleet to keep them supplied, along with reinforcement groups.

Early Morning | Palace of the Supreme Leader, Guzbek
Winston Steele headed down the cavernous labyrinth that was the Palace. The recent declaration of war by Crysuko had sent a wave of energy through the military establishment of Aroni, seemingly this tiny war had unlocked some long dormant desire in them. Such was his destination, Conference Room 8, where the Joint Chiefs, MINOW (Minister of War), MINFOR (Minister of Foreign Affairs), and MININT (Minister of Intelligence) were meeting to discuss Aronian involvement and interests

The rich mahogany table held the 8 of them with ease. After some brief introductions and greetings, business was gotten down to. They passionately argued that Aroni should take this opportunity to invade the tiny nation. The declared front would be the repayment of $47 billion dollars in G2G loans made to the nation, but the actual goal would be to fill the government with loyal insiders and if not directly puppet the country, at least at it to the Aronian sphere of influence.

The strategic value of more overseas bases for it's ever growing fleet and army, and the use as a cultural bulwark were emphasized, as was the comparative easy at which the small nation would fold under attack. The gain were large compared to the low risk. There were two possible flaws to this plan. Crysuko could disagree with our choices for leaders and politicians, but that risk was considered, at this stage, negligible, they seemed more interested in repayment and worst case Aroni could offer payment for power. And they;re had been murmurs of a peace settlement attempted by the Free-Lands. By any mean peace must be averted, for now Crysuko seems uninterested in it and no action is need, but it may present future problems.

As usual the lead up to war was a three part program:

Part One: Gather Information. A cross-agency intelligence committee will be formed and begin gathering all available data. This includes optical, radar, and SIGINT satellites and open-source analysis. As well are view of available technical and doctrinal information on Vernon Bluff and Crysuko. There are no active HUMINT cells in Vernon Bluff, and they are desperately needed. Aroni will send five cell leaders to recruit locals, 3 to Port Gregory, 2 to a pair of other major cities or sites of strategic military value

Part Two: Protect Aronian Nationals. expats and tourists will be urged to return home, a travel condition RED will be issued for Vernon Bluff. And the Aronian embassy will be on protection level 2, rigorous vehicle and ID checks, and increased security detail.

Part Three: Prepare for Conflict. The Nearest PHIB Unit and Carrier Group 8 will steam to Vernon Bluff and rest outside Port Gregory in international waters as a show of force. That should take about 3 days which should put it on a similar time table to Crysuko's Forces; 2,000 marines, 9 ships, and over 120 aircraft. Meanwhile a Regiment sized amphibious force will be prepared for deployment, that's 14 days off though.

Hello, my noble leaders. As we all know, yesterday, there was a declaration of war against the small nation of Vernon Bluff. With Crysuko being a much, much larger nation than Vernon Bluff, we are compelled to support this small nation, and bring peace back to the region, be it with or without force. While we see the logic within Crysuko's reason of war, we feel as if it is unright for them to attack a nation, with nearly 130 times less population. Let us hope that this conflict devolves, and we are able to bring back the peace to our once exciting world.

~Prime Minister Yvesta

With the telegram sent, Onfande starts minor mobilization along its coast. Due to the distance from Crysuko, Onfande does not have to worry about constant bombings, and we are neutral, so they can't hit us without people getting angry. Unfortunately, Vernon Bluff is less lucky, and more close to the enemy. We start to export military supplies over to them, starting with rifles and anti-aircraft weapons, hopefully getting up to include tanks and infantry as well. Fortunately, Crysuko has not reached Vernon Bluff yet, which means that the war has not started yet.

London, United Kingdom

The Prime Minister hears about the state of war that broke out against these 2 nations and calls in his Defense Minister. "What can the United Kingdom scrounge up from our navy and army reserves?" "Well, sir, our Heavy Cruiser prototype, the Venezia, along with a few guided missile cruisers and destroyers, as well as a single aircraft carrier, can be spared for major service immediately. The battleship Conqueror can be ready on the same day that the fleet should arrive at the combat zone, 3 days at the least. As for the armed forces, Field Marshal Scott Johnson's 3rd Guard Division can be transported over immediately by transport plane, if we get clearance to use landing strips." 'Order Admiral Carleton to set sail immediately, and head for Vernon Bluff with utmost importance."

Venezia

Admiral of the Fleet Sir Carleton Smith was pacing the bridge of his fine capital ship, the Venezia. He knows that his orders are risky, dangerous, but not suicidal. Status Quo must be maintained. He sets sail with the remaining ships in Portsmouth towards Vernon Bluff.

Location: St. Michael, Adland

King Arthur XII couldn't be bothered. Dressed in a sharp, black tuxedo, he had a shot of Whiskey in one hand as he gazed upon the seemingly endless array of skyscrapers and neon that made up the capital of Adland at nighttime. King Arthur XII was young. He was elected into the Monarchy at the age of 29 and now, 37, had 2 more years until his decade of power ceased. General Wallace approached the young king. "Your Majesty," Wallace said with a swift bow, "It appears conflict between Vernon Bluff and Crysuko are coming to a boiling point." The King turned his head to face the General with an eyebrow raised quizzically. "You are aware, that under your discretion, we have expanded our empire into the further reaches of our fair planet. This presents a strategic military opportunity that may continue to divert current attention away from Cubo Rio, those bastards.." The King shakes his head at his General. "Do not insult our fellow brethren. As for Vernon Bluff, send an immediate signal to both the governments of Crysuko and Vernon Bluff. Make known our intentions. Make known that we do not fight without honor. We will give the diligence of informing our adversaries. Be gone." With that, the General leaves the room and makes immediate contact with the Adish Royal Navy, Adish Royal Air Force, and Adish Royal Marines. He told them to dispatch to Vernon Bluff immediately.

To the Government of Vernon Bluff and all of whom support her,

On behalf of His Majesty the King Arthur XII of Adland, we formally and hereby do declare war upon the nation of Vernon Bluff and all of those who support her endeavors. Economic sanctions are to be placed immediately upon Vernon Bluff. All diplomatic relations have been severed, and ambassadors arrested within our country walls. They will be kept safe in St. Michael before being returned to your home countries. We give you our word. We insist the immediate surrender of Vernon Bluff to avoid the catastrophic destruction of your people and your sovereignty.

Solemnly,

General Wallace McGregor XVI

To the government of Crysuko,

You have our full support in this military endeavor. We cordially invite your diplomats to establish relations within Adish borders. We take honor very seriously, and we see Vernon Bluff's clear violation of that honor as a crime worthy of death and enslavement.

Godspeed,

King Arthur XII

Adland will be sending in the first wave

2 Aircraft Carriers
15 Missile Destroyers
8 Cruisers
12 Submarines
1 Copter Carrier
2 Air Defense Frigates
3 Railgun Goliath Dreadnaughts

[OOC: I believe in fair role playing so if this is a little too outrageous, let me know and I will scale down to match what others are sending.]

EDIT: [OOC: At the request of Vernon Bluff I have scaled down my fleet. Below you will find updated numbers.

2 Aircraft Carriers
8 Missile Destroyers
4 Cruisers
6 Submarines
1 Copter Carrier
1 Air Defense Frigate
1 Railgun Goliath Dreadnaught ]

2ND EDIT: [OOC: At the request of Vernon Bluff I have decided to remove my Railgun Goliath Dreadnaught in the first wave, however, I reserve the right to use it within the second wave if the situation permits and if you all are matching.]

Its been two days since the declaration of war and the preparations are still in full swing. The once beautiful untouched bluffs have turned into a fortress. Guns and missiles break through the rocks and either aim for the sea or the air. Streets were empty as civilians were being rushed to the interior city of Grand Lily and soon a letter would be sent to the Crysuko and allies asking for the city to be spared any bombing runs or military action. Port Gregory was now consumed with military hardware from allies who had brought much-needed weapons and men to defend the country. A glimmer of hope was shining through the rainy day as more manpower poured into the city, once Crysuko saw the massive bluffs and the guns pointing at there fleet maybe peace would come, that was the hope anyway. If the imitation of the fortress city didn't deter further aggression the plan was to launch a massive barrage at the fleet hopefully overwhelming defenses and getting these foes out of Vernon Bluff land.

On Keystone Island, the final preparations were finishing. Mines were placed everywhere in the sea by Coast Guard trawlers and even on land, they were placed to make landings on the island a difficult task. The 4th Coastal Battery was in place lead by Captain Iok Biong an older man who volunteered his battery to defend the island. It was nearly suicidal mission objective as the troops assumed the Crysuko would hold nothing back destroying this defensive position but they all had no family to go home too. Most were orphans who joined the military after turning 18 or just outcasts of society. This gave the battery the lovely nickname of the "Loners" but now they would make history defending their homeland from the invaders before the gates and it filled these fringe outcasts with pride.

Meanwhile, Ngunda was busy writing more letters to other nations asking for help in any way. The Crysuko fleet was estimated to be two days away from the coast and much more work needed to be done along with allies needing to hurry with there fleets or supplies before the battle began. There was also the issue of the Free lands trying to broker a peace but it seemed unlikely anything like that would happen before the guns rang out, however, he still held on to this option and wrote again to the Free Lands.

Dear President Ngunda,
I am glad to hear, that you are willing to peace. However, the Crysukan side of this conflict is currently sending very mixed signals. I am currently trying to get them to send a clear signal, so that we know, what we are dealing with and where we can and should start with the brokering.

With best regards and hang in there,
Felicia Sciotóg of the Tribe of Monaghan,

We all thank you for trying to broker peace in our land. I am once again telling you how willing I am to create peace in our land with the Crysuko and allies if the request does not endanger Vernon Bluff sovereignty or land. The fleet is nearing us and in two days it will be upon us and I am afraid some of the soldiers on both sides will not see another day of life once this dark day comes. I will not hold back with my defenses of our land but I ask if you make any progress with Crysuko to contact me directly.

Sincerely,
William Ngunda

A reply was given to the message from King Arthur. Normally, reactionary nations weren't given the time of day, but now would be the time to play realpolitik in the name of having a useful ally to fight the war with, spoils can be divided. It gave the idea of an alliance our blessing, and detailed our current plan while also not divulging every detail just yet, waiting for their involvement directly.

Meanwhile, the fleet was a mere day away from their set destination where they would split up and take their respective positions to suffocate the enemy. Analysis of their geography made the prospect of a full in invasion a difficult one, but high command was sure the outer territories could be seized without disasterous casualties. If they could maintain a siege, a full on invasion may not be needed...

Palace Rellieres, Pellenchetand, Mousalne
March 10, 2020

King Michael II sat down at his desk, digesting the recent troubles.

Vernon Bluff, citing financial problems, has decided to refuse the repayment of their debts to other countries. In addition, riots in their capital escalated to the point where foreign businesses were damaged, their nationals terrorized, and even the Crysukon embassy was attacked and burnt to the ground.

This all generated great alarm and insult to Pellenchetand's pride, with the incident being widely condemned throughout Mousalne and calls of dispatching a punitive expedition crying louder and louder by the day.

While prospect of losing the loaned money definitely would hurt the economy (a law regulating how much money a bank could loan to a foreign entity was now in the works), the king's economic advisors assured him that the country could take the hit. The increasing possibility of intervention from other countries with an interest in Vernon Bluff, all of which have more advanced technologies than Pellenchetand or even her neighbours combined, also served to discourage mounting an expedition despite increasing public pressure to do so.

In any other time and place, King Michael would have just let this incident be, take the popularity and economic hits and move on, delivering only a sternly-worded letter to the president of Vernon Bluff. After all, the state did not have much military interest on the small country, and most of the economic interest rested on private banks and firms who really needed to be punished for making such risky investments and moneylending in the first place. The criticism he would receive for the lack of reparations to damaged Mousalnois property and injured overseas nationals would be much more damaging he would concede.

The problem however, was that this was the first time a foreign country had essentially defaulted on their loans to Pellenchetand following the establishment of the regime and monarchy after their years long civil war. Mousalne's close defeat in the costly Great Loureme War and the loss of her colonial empire during the civil war plunged the country's international prestige and influence down the drain. Not responding to this recent slight would only embolden the other countries who owned debts to them to challenge them more, perceiving weakness which was unfortunately all too real. This in turn would only undermine the legitimacy and stability of the Pellenchetand regime he had been working tirelessly for since the last decade or so and hand over a propaganda coup to the so called "Free Mousalne".

Thus, despite the risks where this could all go disastrously wrong, Pellenchetand must intervene in the conflict that is now becoming to be known as the "Debt War". Win or lose, Pellenchetand must not be seen to let a challenge such as this go unanswered and must convince it's people that their safety abroad will be fought for. As King Michael gives the order to ready the deployment of the FEP and supporting naval elements, he writes a letter to the president of Vernon Bluff as a final chance to avert war between the two countries.

William Ngunda, President, Republic of Vernon Bluff
March 10, 2020

It has come to our attention that the recent troubles afflicting your country have now drawn several nations, ours included, spiraling down to the precipice of war. Yet it need not be that way. I have received counsel that a possible solution to this crisis may be at hand.

It has been suggested that the loan payments owed by your country to ours can be lowered to a more manageable level and thus easing your financial burdens. This will come at the price of extending the duration of the loans, however. While we have considered allowing the payments to go into arrears for a few years, we will have to wait to see whether this course of action is acceptable in our country's economic community. Discussions about the repatriation of our nationals, those of the belligerents, or of neutral powers within your borders can go forward once we are in talks.

Should this crisis be unable to be resolved by negotiations, Pellenchetand will be forced by its honour to declare a state of war between our two nations.

Respectfully,
Michael II, King of Mousalne and High Commander of the Pellenchetand Regime

The time had come, and the waypoint had been reached. It would be the initial job of the groups to pound the defenders into dust, once blackrock had been secured, the siege could begin in earnest.

Recon imagery established that the best angle of attack would be from the north with 2 landing zones selected. 2 regiments of 2000 each would make the landings after the initial bombardment. Aircraft carriers readied their strike groups and launched them, the aircraft armed with long range missiles would launch as soon as they had a lock, then break off to reduce risk.

The other ships were far from silent, as a well aimed and coordinated barrage of missiles and shells hammered the batteries and fortifications. The first waves of marines began to make ready, loading into mechanised landing craft. The copter carriers also took a forward position, so that the landing forces could have gunship support. A final briefing was given after the first wave of air and naval strikes to the invaders, before the landing craft formed up and set off.

The next wave of carrier air groups launched to cover them, along with squadrons of gunships. Corvettes which could make inroads into the shallower waters stayed close as well to provide escort, and give support with 4 inch guns when the landing was met. With numbers and several layers of heavy fire support, the mood among the landing craft as they sped towards the beaches was one of quiet confidence, victory was assured but they were more than happy to fight for it.

The northern and northwestern sectors were soon to be the claimed beach heads. After a tense trip, the ramps dropped, and the charge began.

Wednesday, 11th of March, 2020.
Diplomatic Correspondence. Will be released.

Dear Sirs,
please allow me to address both of you again in the same missive.
After exchanging communiques with both President Ngunda and Foreign Secretary Malell, I am now able to propose the first possible solution to this conflict. President Ngunda assured me time and time again, that he would like to avoid conflict - he is, however, unwilling to submit his nation and his people to foreign rule to achieve that.

Building onto that, I hereby propose a new payment plan for the foreign debts of Vernon Bluff, including the option for the Republic to pay in kind, in natural resources, at an exchange rate corresponding to the one on the world market (I propose the Utica Stock Exchange in the Sultanate of Kyrenaia and its prices as the standard of measurement for that).
Additionally, Vernon Bluff will pay a compensation, sums to be discussed, to the owners of the businesses, which were demolished, to the Socialist States of Crysuko for the destruction of the Embassy, and to the families, which had members in the embassy.
In return, the Socialist States of Crysuko will agree to not conduct offensive operations, including a blockade, against Vernon Bluff and will recall all of its military assets in the region into international waters. The Socialist States of Crysuko will also ask its allies in this conflict to do the same.

What do you say, gentlemen?

With best hopes and regards,
Felicia Sciotóg of the Tribe of Monaghan,
Head of the Foreign Office of the Free Lands of the Selkie.

This message was sent about the same time as the Crysukan Fleet reached Blackrock Island and began with landing there.
The Free Lands would learn hours after the first shots had been fired. As soon as she learned of said shots, Sciotóg remarked to one of her colleagues: "This just got a lot more complicated."
It was not a perfect proposal to begin with, but it was something - with the shooting having started, asking anyone to lay down their arms was almost a futile endeavour.
I play PT, MT and a bit FT. I am into character-RPs.
My people are called the Selkie, the nation is usually called the Free Lands in MT-settings. Thanks.

The PHIB group and carrier group approached the eastern sectors. not yet piercing the sovereignty of Vernon Bluff but very close regardless. They made no attempt to hide their intention or their presence.

Supreme Leader Winston Steele sent a communique to Crysuko

You may have noticed the presence of a carrier and amphibious group stopped near the barren islands. Good news for you, they can be on your side and invade the remaining eastern sector for the low, low price of a seat at the negotiating table. Aroni has debts to collect as well and is willing to do what is needed to see them repaid.

Meanwhile the troop onboard began loading the LCAC and CLC with equipment and going over invasion strategy. The carrier group began to unpack for security operation, beginning AEW and fighter cover flights. The too began preparing for operations

Given that we are in the same situation, I am more than happy to accept these terms. As an economic ally, we are happy to have your assistance. As commander of the invasion forces I am authorised to speak on behalf of military operations in this sector.

Our shipments of military supplies to the mainland of Vernon Bluff continues, with anti-air and rifles arriving in their port. With word that the Crysukons have already landed on a nearby island, we add more objects to our military exports to Vernon Bluff, such as light tanks and artillery.

2 of our destroyers (O.N.F Evergreen, O.N.F Plasser) start to make their way to the coast of Vernon.

Makseille District, Mountainia Region
Training is taking place 10 miles west of the city of Makseille, on top of the near-vertical rock walls of Mount Unnsye, the tallest plateau in Onfande. There, a fake training-city is placed, with the troops practicing city warfare, in case we get invaded. Fortunately, this happens to be the terrain that we are dealing with in Vernon Bluff.

Port Gregory, Vernon Bluff
With some of the military supplies already having arrived in Port Gregory, we begin to make preparations for the defense of the city, such as setting up the anti-air systems, and teaching the Bluffian soldiers how to fire our guns. A commander was brought along as well to oversee the defense of the city. It was not going to be long before the Crysukons reach the city, so it is best to be prepared. he brought along a map that has marked strategic locations within the port, which included the city hall, and largest park within the city, as well as a route that the Crysukons might take. This is just speculation, though. War is strategy, so you can expect everything.

Greetings,

Comrades, it appears as if our endeavors are in alignment. The ARAF is currently underway to your location. You will be able to identify us with the diagonal cross and blue flag. We will be sweeping from the south and will breach land that way. Will radio to confirm when we have successfully breached. You will be able to recognize our birds in the sky with the white cross on the tailpiece and blue colors.

Godspeed.

Somewhere near Blackstone Islands and the Crysukon fleet: Aboard the ARN-Zeus Class Carrier

Admiral Christophen Lee gazed at the azure main before him. With a chin perked upwards, he was poised and gazed stoically at the seemingly endless expanse of blue that often graced the face of the planet. Had this been a different occasion, he would have been enjoying himself right now, basking under the sun and taking in the warm breeze. However, things are currently different. "Admiral," first-officer Miller approached the pensive Admiral, "We are approximately 10 miles south of the Blackstone Island's coast. Crysuko has already made contact and our allies are currently en route." "Excellent," the Admiral quipped without turning his head or looking at the first-officer, "Send a message to our allies that we are en route. You are to keep the carrier further away from the rest of the fleet. We board when our allies give us the go-ahead." First Officer Miller stood to attention, "Sir. What should we do about the inhabitants of the Blackstone Islands?" "I propose we enslave the local population," Admiral Lee said, without even turning a glance or showing any sign of remorse or guilt, "but we will decide further when negotiations are underway. I don't expect this fight to be a long fight. Be gone." First Officer Miller turned away and radioed to the rest of the fleet to begin to make way towards the Blackstone Islands, and to shoot on sight immediately when targets are recognized.

It was at this time that the submarines had begun to spread out around VB territory in packs of 3, intending on finding enemy shipping to drag to the bottom. Identifying the returning cargo ships from Onfande, one such group primed their torpedos and launched, sitting still to reduce chance of detection.

Radio communication from Admiral Salazar to ARAF correspondent
Good copy on your intentions, we are taking the north with a further ally coming from the east, this will be a vital stepping stone to the mainland. We can sweep other islands as well, though we suspect they are not defended.

Operation Taxman is a go.

First Step, operation Taxman/Pennies-From-Heaven
The carrier disgorged it cargo of planes, starting with EW fighter armed with anti-radiation and surface strike missiles, aiming to cripple enemy air defense by targeting radars, SAM emplacement, anti-ship missile platform, and ISTAR and C2 facilities. Fitted with two seats with the backseat set to operate the complex jamming and countermeasures suites, while the front pilot flies and controls weapons. In total the carrier launched 10 such aircraft.

Meanwhile, the battery of SIGINT and Optical satellites had given Aroni knowledge of major enemy emplacements on the mainland, they would be softened up with hypersonic cruise missiles launched from the battlecruiser. Traveling past mach 5 they were hard to intercept and packed a powerful punch. The would target bunkers, airfields and other installations whose identities could be found out with satellite imagery and not be moved in the hour between acquisition and termination. The cruiser carried 56 of them and could be supplemented by cannon fire form it's 5" gun

Once that was accomplished aerial superiority would be established over the AO by the 20 specially constructed 5th generation fighter, not strike fighters, but full fighters designed for modern dog fighting.

Once enemy air defenses were destroyed, Heavy lift Helos would drag mine clearing sleds through the water to ensure safe passage of the landing force.
