Frontlines: The German Assault (OOC, Open)

Postby Independent States of Tula » Tue Mar 03, 2020 11:00 pm

Current Date: June 26, 1941

1st Campaign: Operation Barbarossa | Chapter One: Battle of Białystok–Minsk

Welcome to Frontlines: The German Assault (the second attempt)! A real life tactics based RP centered on the German assault into the Soviet Union in an Alternate History that can vary either in small ways or large based largely on the actions of your characters! Experience the brutal realities of war from the boots of a German Officer commanding a platoon of the Wehrmacht's finest on the Eastern Front (and possibly beyond) where survival is far from guaranteed and the enemy will fight to the bitter end. Expect to be challenged by the Soviet Menace, and expect to make hard decisions that could result in anything from Character death to mass casualties for everyone involved. See and experience a new form of PvE RPing which will test your skills as a commander in the deadliest Front known to man and see if you have what it takes to reign victorious. Do not expect an easy victory though, this RP will require dedication, cool heads, and persistence in order to obtain new and unique scenarios that will change the history of WW2 as we know it.

How It Works And Gameplay

Game Storyline
This game is organized into Individual "Battles" & "Campaigns". Battles are the individual conflicts between the player forces and the enemy. Battles are grouped into campaigns. The results of one battle will determine the style of the next battle. Battles grouped together form a campaign, which the primary element this game will use to determine the course of the war. Over the course of a campaign, players have options for growth and advancement, but it is limited. At the conclusion of campaigns, however, the actions of players and their units will be fully evaluated for rank promotions and awards. Utilizing the Battle & Campaign structure, players can generate an entirely new story and outcome for the Second World War.

Determining Outcomes
Every battle will have a battlemap posted and maintained by a Battlemod (typically myself, however the more artistically inclined are more than welcome to volunteer to assist). Usually battles will have strategic points to capture or defend and the players' ability to accomplish their objectives determines the outcome of a battle. To determine player success, Battlemods (OP/Co-OP's) will take into account several factors - tactical considerations (Numbers, positions, weapons, Ground Support), Roleplay quality (Better posts will yield better results), and skills of the officer. Players will post the actions of their unit, and to a small extent the reactions of the enemies (Not to the point of God Modding, ie murdering entire platoons of Russian infantry without a single casualty) up to the point where they can determine what occurred (i.e. two or three posts about their unit fighting, positioning, inflicting damage, etc. then a battlemod will look over player posts, post results and potentially update the map if necessary. Battles may be subdivided between mods to cover larger areas or ease administrative burden though for the beginning battles should be small enough to be managed by a single mod.

Player Units

Infantry & Armor
Player units will have two statistics to keep in mind, Strength and Morale. Strength determines how well your unit can fight due to numbers, skill, experience, etc. given as a rating and morale determines your unit's willingness to surrender or rout. Battlemods will factor these in when your unit's subsequent actions.

Base Strength: 1 = 100% fighting capacity with sufficient manpower, equipment, and trained/experienced troops. At .5 (or 50%) and lower a unit has been mauled heavily, lost extensive amounts of equipment, and/or have lost most or all of their experienced soldiers.
Base Morale: 1 = 100% chance of standing and fighting, if at .5 it's only 50% and so forth, lower scores equal higher chances of your unit routing or outright surrendering despite orders from players. Losing large amounts of men/panzers will decrease a unit's morale significantly.

Player Skills

Players may take two skills When they first join. Every promotion afterwards unlocks a new skill. Skills may be selected more than once to increase their benefit.

Infantry & Armor
- Offensive Doctrine: Player Unit fights better on the offensive
- Defensive Doctrine: Player Unit fights better on the defensive
- Superior Officer: Base strength of player unit increases by .3 (Strength now becomes 1.3 which equals 130%)
- Artillery Spotter: Artillery Support is more effective when used by this player
- Air Support Spotter: Aerial Support is more effective when used by this player
- Influential: You are considered an important officer, meaning more support is granted to you +10 Support Points
- Skilled Soldiers: Your men are of better quality than most +.2 Strength and Morale. Taking this again makes them even better.

Infantry
- Inspiring Presence: Base morale increases by .3 (Morale now becomes 1.3 which equals 130%)
- Close Quarters Doctrine: You excel at leading close quarters fighting against your enemies. (Less than 50 Meters)
- Snipers: Your unit has snipers attached to it

Armor
- Mechanic School: You and your unit are able to repair damaged vehicles or maintain them. (Able to Regain Strength at the end of a round based on RNG)
- Superior Equipment: Your unit has received better than standard equipment in one area (Generally granting a +.3 base strength but when selecting this skill, specify the group you're choosing to upgrade and allow to continue to upgrade as new equipment becomes available. Selecting this again can allow for another better-than-standard equipment group.)

Support Points

Support Points are used by officers to help them accomplish their missions. The amount of support points available are limited, however, to simulate the limit on resources and availability of support. Player officers may combine their Support Points if working on the same objective to simulate the increased use of resources devoted to that important objective. Player rank determines how many support points they have. Support Points replenish after every battle. These points are very limited and so should be conserved for important objectives.

Infantry & Armor
- Infantry Mortar Bombardment: 10 Support Points (Best for small concentrations of Infantry or small point targets such as machine gun nests)
- Heavy Mortar Bombardment: 30 Support Points (Best for medium concentrations of Infantry or medium point targets such as non-concrete buildings)
- Artillery Barrage: 50 Support Points (Best for large concentrations of Infantry, small concentrations of enemy armor, and fortified point targets such as bunkers)
- Tank Busters: 15 Support Points (Best for small concentrations of enemy armor)
- Aerial Recon: 20 Support Points (Reveal Hidden/Off Map Units)
- Aerial Strafing: 15 Support Points (Best against small concentrations of infantry or small point targets such as machine gun nests)
- Aerial Bombardment: 50 Support Points (Best against large concentrations of infantry, medium concentrations of enemy armor, and large non-fortified positions such as a city block or small town)
- Carpet Bombing: 70 Support Points (Best against extremely large concentrations of infantry, large concentrations of enemy armor, and large fortified positions such as bunker systems or literal forts)

History: Born to a middle-class family in the capital of Thuringia (Weimar) during the ending months of WWI. His father was a soldier in the trenches and he was devastated when Germany surrendered on November 11, 1918. He, like many others thought that they had been betrayed by leftists within the German government, and he became increasingly bitter as time went on. He made this clear to Heinrich and his younger sister (Hermine Gunther) as they grew up as well as instilled nationalistic pride in them. Then, when Heinrich was 16 and his sister 13, they moved to Warsaw to live with their uncle after Heinrich's parents died in a car crash.

Heinrich's uncle was an accountant for a bank in Warsaw during its time as "New East Prussia" in the German Empire. The bank was owned by the Warszawski family, a family of Jews who'd changed their last name to avoid anti-Semitic attacks on themselves and their business. Of the Warszawski family was Eliza, a 15 year old girl at the time who quickly took a liking to Heinrich, who promptly returned the favor. The relationship grew over time and Eliza's Parents were open to the two marrying, of which the young couple did desire. However before they could marry, Eliza's family could see the writing on the wall that many too had seen, Hitler's Germany would be coming for Poland much like it had Austria and Czechoslovakia.

In January 1938, the Warszawski family packed their things and moved to the British Colony of Palestine, Eliza and Heinrich vowed to stay in touch. Without a job in Warsaw anymore, Heinrich's uncle moved back to Weimar, Germany with Heinrich and Hermine. At age 19, with no job and a loan from his Uncle, and an old nationalist streak being brought back up by National Socialist propaganda, Heinrich joined an officer's school and began training. He was fast tracked through in January of 1940 in order to prepare him for the invasion of France. Serving with the 29th Infantry Division, Heinrich has been in the Wehrmacht since and he has seen combat serval times against British and French forces. After France Heinrich participated in the conflict in Yugoslavia as well.

Now, with Germany invading the Soviet Union, Heinrich and his men are prepared once more to face the enemy and win another Victory for the Fatherland.

This has always been a good RP. I am interested.
The name's James. James Usari. Well, my name is not actually James Usari, so don't bother actually looking it up, but it'll do for now.

Personality: Easy-going, yet serious and stoic when the situation calls for it. Sceptic of the more fanatic elements fighting for Germany, but still follows his orders.
History: Born and raised deep in the Pfalz, Andreas grew up under dire economic situation following the financial crash, and under the jackboot of the French occupation. Raised by a single mother after his father was killed in the final weeks of the Great War, his youth was hard and he did his best ot help provide for his siblings, some of which did not survive the Great Depression. Under these circumstances, and with nowhere else to turn, he and his family became ardent supporters of the new nationalist movement sweeping through Germany, and ended up joining the Wehrmacht in 1935 at the age of 18. Standing out in his class, he was selected for the Kriegschule, and found his element in a new form of warfare being spearheaded in the later years of his military education. With the invasion of Poland, his schooling was put to the test where he received command of his own tank, which he would use to great affect through the Polish campaign, and into France, where he received his own platoon in the 2nd Panzer Division. With hostilities opening up on the Eastern front, his unit was rolled into the new 17th panzer division.

Character Application
Name: Franz-Josef Müller
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Ethnicity: German
Rank: Leutnant
Unit: 2nd Platoon/1st Company/1st Battalion/1st Motorized Infantry Regiment/29th Infantry Division/XLVII Panzer Corps/2nd Panzer Group
Skills: Inspiring presence, Close quarters doctrine
Appearance:
Image

Personality: Franz-Josef is, above all, a man of faith. Forgiveness, kindness and good virtue are some of his main concerns, which he tries to impart on everyone he meets. However, his faith is also very different than that of his father. He blames the Jews for the murder of Christ, and has a distinct hatred of godless communists in the Soviet Union. He sees Protestantism, his faith, as something uniquely German, and agrees with the Nazi party on many of their nationalists points. He is no pacifist, and sees himself as a knight of faith, like those of the Teutonic Order.
History: Franz-Josef was born in Erfurt, to a protestant minister and his wife. Franz-Josef had little choice in his upbringing or his lot in life: since his father was a priest, it followed that he would become one too, just as generation upon generation of his family had been. That being a given, Franz-Josef was brought up in an extremely strict household along with his many siblings, four brothers and three sisters. Their upbringing could be called militaristic, and their father was the hardest on Franz-Josef, the eldest of the bunch. They had to be examples for the community, and barely had a childhood at all. They were expected to grow up fast and become proper, religious Germans.

As soon as possible Franz-Josef was brought into the Church to get a feeling for the community, and to help with certain processes. He was taught important scripture by his father, had to attend Sunday school, but he also had to go to regular school on top of that. He went to bed exhausted, woke up and went back to work again, as regimented as the life of a soldier. There was little time for hobbies or friendships outside this, and he only really got to know his siblings. When he finished high school, Franz-Josef immediately went on to achieve a degree in theology, as was demanded for the priesthood.

He had just started his doctorate when Germany invaded Poland. In the eyes of Franz-Josef, this was somewhat justified, since many Germans lived in a Catholic country, under the sway of political Catholicism. They had to be liberated from that yoke, but it was not something he would actively want to participate in himself. He continued his doctorate, but as the war progressed, he saw the lightning victories and the propaganda, which could not help but spark some awe in him. It seemed that God was truly on their side. He finished his doctorate as quickly as he could, and with an academic degree, managed to be fast tracked to the position of lieutenant. He was just in time to be part of the invasion of Yugoslavia, where he saw only some limited action.

However, Franz-Josef did not enlist alone. With him, various members of his father’s church community signed up, enough to fill a platoon. This band, over the course of the past year, has come to grow very close and tight-knit. It is almost like a family, lead by their spiritual father to excel in greatness. They all see themselves as faithful knights, and as such are driven to the extreme. They also do not eschew close-quarters combat, and will very willingly take up the bayonet for the defence of their faith, especially against godless communists.

Oh no, it’s definitely good to have, I just think you’re the first person to add a second type of AFV to your platoon. Usually people keep them uniform, but I figured since you have Superior Equipment then it was fine to have a mixed platoon.

Character Application
Name: Hans Mehler
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Ethnicity: German
Rank: Leutnant
Unit: 3rd Platoon/1st Company/1st Battalion/1st Motorized Infantry Regiment/29th Infantry Division/XLVII Panzer Corps/2nd Panzer Group

Skills: Skilled soldiers and snipers
Appearance:
Image

Personality: Hans Mehler is a stoic, level headed man. He is also a father and husband, and some of the few times his men see him smile are when he is reading letters from his wife.
History: Hans was born in Weimar in late 1914. His father was gone for much of his early years, serving on the Eastern Front during the Great War. He grew up in the heart of Weimar with his mother, a seamstress. Work was hard to come by for the woman, but they always made do with what they had. When the war finally ended, Hans met his father for the first time. As he grew, his father made up for the lost time. When he wasn't working, Hans' father made sure to spend every possible minute with the boy. Growing up in defeated Germany was difficult, but his family made it tolerable. Throughout the years, Hans was taught everything his father knew; how to shoot a rifle, hunt, use a knife, many such things. He was also instilled with his father's nationalism and hatred of those that forced Germany to surrender.

When Hitler seized power in 1933, the young Hans was ecstatic, as was the rest of his family. He, his father, and his mother had been a part of the Nazi party for years. In 1936, Hans joined the Werchmant and became a part of the Thuringia formed 29th Infantry Division until it was reorganized as a motorized division in the fall of '37. Hans was on the frontlines in the invasion of Poland and took part in the encirclement of Radom, as well as the Ciepielów massacre. He also saw action in France while attached to the 16th Army. Fresh off of occupational duties in eastern France, Hans is ready to dive back into the action, ready and able to take the fight to the Soviet bear.

When can we expect the IC? Are we waiting for a certain number of players?

Actually I was going to post tonight asking you guys if you wanted to start now since we filled up an infantry company and got a tank platoon commander as well. I have the map for our starting area set up (it’s horrific because I have no artistic ability) and could probably get the IC up before the weekend if we decide to go ahead now.

It's been two whole years since the last incarnation of this-i could have sworn it was familiar so i had to look but i found it. Thus i'm bringing back my old character.

Character Application
Name: Fritz Stracke
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Ethnicity: German
Rank: Leutnant
Unit: 1st Platoon/2nd Company/1st Battalion/1st Motorized Infantry Regiment/29th Infantry Division/XLVII Panzer Corps/2nd Panzer Group
Skills:
*Inspiring Presence: Base morale increases by .3 (Morale now becomes 1.3 which equals 130%)
*Close Quarters Doctrine: You excel at leading close quarters fighting against your enemies. (Adds 10% bonus to CQB actions)
Appearance:
Image

Personality: Fritz couldn't care less about politics or the Nazi Party. Though he is a member, the only thing that he really cares about is his family and his men. He is motivated to fight only because he wants his children to grow up in a world where they have the best opportunities, and though he doesn't care who the enemy is, he understands that if Germany is invaded, it could have repercussions much like the Treaty of Versailles. He will do what it takes to secure victory and to live to see another day.
History: Fritz was born on March 5th, 1909 as the fifth child of a carpenter in Leipzig, The German Empire. His early years were rather simple, seeing the unfortunate death of two younger siblings as well as an uncle and a grandfather. When the Great War broke out in 1914, his father was pressured to enlist and did so with some hesitation. He was transferred to the Front line almost immediately. More through dumb luck and the good graces of his officers did he survive the first three brutal years of the war, eventually dying in August 18th of 1917, the victim of an English sharpshooter. In the end The War claimed nearly all adult males of the Stracke family, leaving only the kids to carry the family name.

His mother never remarried, but did work hard enough to be able to afford to send Fritz to school. He did not excel, nor did he flunk out. His grades were all around average. Growing up in the Interwar years he was forced to work several jobs just to get his family by. When the Nazi's began their rise to power, he was not involved. He had become apart of the German Military early in the Weimar Republic. He made the easy transfer when the Wehrmacht was formed and soon came to be the head of a Platoon. He also joined the Nazi Party (because of social pressure) and married a young woman called Helga Kolz. Helga would give him three children, two sons and a daughter. When the time came he participated in the Invasion of Poland, again he was pressured by colleagues and committed several killings of Polish POW's.

The fall of Denmark, The Netherlands, Belgium, Norway and France, he participated in it all before being transferred to rather boring duties on the border with the USSR. In 1941, after two years of not being able to knock Britain out of the war the Fuhrer invaded its neighbor and he was among the invasion. As long as he can remain in contact with his family, he has no issues with carrying out his orders. His men love him, just as he loves them.
Equipment:
1x Comand Squad
1x Leutnant (Armed with MP-40, Walther P38 or Luger P08)
1x Unterfeldwebel (Platoon XO, armed with MP-40, Walther P38)
1x Gefreiter (Armed with Kar-98k, 2x Model 24 Stick Grenades, 1x Feldfu b backpack radio)
1x Platoon Medic (Armed with Walther P38)
3x Soldat (Runners/Command Security armed with Kar-98k, 2x Model 24 Stick Grenades)

4x Regular Squads
1x Unteroffizier (Armed with MP-40)
1x Gerfreiter (Armed with Kar-98k, 2x Model 24 Stick Grenades)
1x Obersoldat (Armed with MG-34, Walther P38)
1x Soldat (Machine Gun Assistant with Walther P38)
1x Soldat (Machine Gun Ammobearer armed with Kar-98k, 2x Model 24 Stick Grenades, and carrying 2x 300rd 7.92x57mm Belt Ammo Boxes)
5x Soldat (Armed with Kar-98k, 2x Model 24 Stick Grenades)

Vehicle: N/A

RP Example: I can provide numerous examples, but i have three in my signature.

That'd be good, imo. Can we see the map?

Btw, here's the map, like I said, absolutely horrific. If anyone's a better map maker I'm more than happy to work with you in getting maps up for the RP.
