[Abandoned] Repeal "Liberate The East Pacific"

Postby Yokiria » Tue Mar 03, 2020 12:44 pm

The Security Council,

Observing that symbolic Liberations have been exclusively reserved for targets that have caused great harm to the world at large,

Believing that The East Pacific does not fit this description, as a democratic region with sufficient protections for its citizenry and a regional military that does not harm native communities,

Doubtful that Marrabuk's self-described incompetence and tyranny is plaguing the over 600 residents of The East Pacific that lovingly support their delegacy

Noting that aside from a simple diplomatic objection that has since been resolved, The East Pacific has not seen any accusations of "sheltering" A mean old man,

Cognizant that other major regions in the world have given second chances to infamous nations in the past without facing the threat of Liberation,

Convinced that this self-liberation by delegate Marrabuk is a mistake that The East Pacific can learn from,

Hereby Repeals SC#298 Liberate The East Pacific

This is just in-case the proposal at-vote passes. Any input would be appreciated. It's been a while since I last wrote something in the SC.

EDIT: It didn't pass.

I can't agree with that clause. There should always be a place for humour in the SC (so long as it's actually funny).

Sounds a little commend-y but good nonetheless. You might want to work on tone to be a little more neutral.

I believe they're only illegal when spelling out the name or acronym of an organization or region using the first letter of each clause.

Personally, I do not think we should be actively discussing this as the resolution has not passed yet. If the will of the Security Council is to liberate TEP, I do not believe we should immediately attempt to reverse course, as that would go against the wishes of this honored body. I believe it would be more appropriate for those opposed to it to politic against the current resolution rather than bring this up now. Let the votes fall where they may.

"Serious business" clause has been removed.

Successful repeals have already been written against proposals while the proposals were at vote, especially silly ones like this liberation. A perfect example would be how quickly 'Condemn Canterlot' was repealed. I'm willing to let the votes fall where they may on Liberate TEP. You should be willing to let the votes fall where they may on its repeal. If reversing course on Liberate TEP is against the wishes of this honored body... then my repeal won't pass it when the time comes.

Let’s not go crazy with this acronym rule. Even if it did try to spell obedience, which I don’t think it’s trying to, it’s not clear what that has to do with the repeal’s target or the party repealing.

Of course, acronyms are not allowed in some select situations (although I would prefer if the rule was removed all together personally).

Likely for me to rule something illegal in the current ruleset for acronyms they’d need to clearly reference a relevant organization or nation.

More badge hunting for the kids that care about their image.

This security council is run by hucksters, that without pretense or shame engage in unabashed self aggrandizement at every turn. A shame a more mature hand does not guide the SC.

Against.

Also, its preemptive.

Wrong thread, DC. This is the one for repealing the self-Liberation if it passes.

I would say this is premature, but defeating this self- liberation resolution is a must.

Might it pass (By the heavens I hope not), I will certainly be in favour of this repeal.

The target of this repeal is finally starting to lose the vote, as I think folk have realised just how shitty it actually is.

Should the actual proposal pass, hopefully not due to its obvious joking manner, we will certainly vote for this. The more thought we put into the original proposal, the more we disliked it. This is done well good job.

I'm a little surprised that you take to defending Marrabuk's "lol whatevs" approach in your repeal, that we're not plagued by it. Somehow he seems to resonate with many in the East Pacific but seems to rub a select few individuals outside TEP the wrong way.

The Branding rule only applies to GA anyways?

I think for a hidden acronym to pose problems with the SC Ruleset it would have to break Rule IV like spelling out “Gameplayer.” And even then it’s not really in keeping with SC’s minimalist rules interpretation to get all that fussy about coded language.

Security Council rules have always been minimalist, and thus never had the GA's "Branding" rule amongst them.

Even so, we do have some branding-related rulings on listing supporters, spelling out stuff with bolded letters, and acrostics.

Don't quote me on this, but I have a vague recollection that much of this was the result of Unibot trying to tweak Ardchoille's tail by spelling out his name in proposals and suchlike (he's to blame for most or our niche rulings).

Given Ransium's stated dislike of this ruling above, the team have had a discussion about this and decided to ditch the part on acrostics (Compendium will be updated too).

Even so, bear in mind the usual site rules apply so don't go spelling out "IDIOT" in "Condemn Examplestan".
