Can't tell by looking at the code . Edit in the actual sig. I suspect the {pre} line makes it too long, and you have too many formatting lines. Put it under the spoiler.

It's not, because I already edited it.

Before editing, you had spoilers spread out totaling up about 12 lines. I floated the spoilers to the left and took out the extraneous line returns. Now it's fine.

Our sig rules are designed around computer screens. "Long on mobile" isn't rulebreaking. If you think our sig rules need to be revisited in light of the fact that the rules were made before mobile users were so ubiquitous, feel free to start a discussion thread.

Personally I hate stupidly long sigs and would welcome a change, but for now it's legal. Meanwile, you might consider disabling sigs in your UCP.

To be fair, this is true. Any way I could help to improve this? I want to keep the [floatleft] and [floatright] box-y feel, but does anyone have any suggested trimming I could do?

That's the actual problem. You're trying to write a novel instead of a sentence. People don't need to read that after every post. Here's a variant that removes no information but works on mobile:

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, and if it isn't, please do pardon me.

What and how are 800 characters counted? I'm just curious because my current sig (within the < 8 line limit) has a whooping 4000+ characters thanks to the BBCodes that made the rainbow color happen. So I was wondering if BBCodes are excluded completely, or is there a list of BBCode tags that doesn't count (e.g. [color] is not counted, but [url] is)?

EDIT: Was it "Display" characters? Excluding all the BBCodes and even the URLs, it goes to 723 characters.

Short answer? Dunno. It's not logical or predictable.

I frequently edit overlong sigs, and I often end up putting in align, float, and spoiler tags. Sometimes they get counted among the 800 characters, sometimes they don't. And if you think I'm missing the "spoiler=SomeRandomText" as valid characters, I can assure you that it's counted in weird ways. I can be at 810 characters, remove one character, and it's legal. Sometimes removing a space or a line return counts as one less character. Other times it doesn't.

I suspect it has something to do with custom forum formatting, which is hidden in the depths of the Admin panel where I can't see it. Regardless, it's frustrating for me too.

That's how it's supposed to work, but I can assure you that some of the tags count as characters some of the time.

I see. Thanks for the answer, Fris! Not that it affects me in any way, but I'm just curious so... yeah! ^^

EDIT: And yeah, I did notice the weird character count too. Sometimes it tells me 812 char, but I just remove a single character, or remove a BBCode, and then it went < 800 char. Not sure what exactly I did because it was a while back. Ah well, I can live with that, no problem!

You seem to have a firm grasp on the formatting. I don't comment on the content, except to continue to point out that you don't NEED lot's of description at the bottom of EVERY post. That's not really a "you" problem, it's an "everyone" problem.

If I wanted people to see my RP stats and details, I'd write it in a dispatch or factbook with all the characters I wanted, and then link the factbook in my sig. I don't know why people are resistant to this - it's completely sensible and gives the information only to those who are interested enough to click the link. I guess my ego is strong enough that I don't feel the need to spam everyone else with my thoughts on every post.

I've always seen sigs in F7 with boxes and sidebars thing, how do i do that?

It';s just formatting tags. You've already figured out how to do a box. After that, it's just experimentation. The main problem I see is that you put the box outside of the float tags. It needs to be inside the tags.
