How did you find Nationstates?

The title is pretty self-explanatory, I’m curious as to how everyone here found NS and especially the forums (as I assume the vast majority of site users only do issues and some regional gameplay). Just a random thought that popped up in my mind and want to ask everyone.

I found NS when a user in the Youtube comments section of a popular Youtuber’s video (I can’t remember who it was or what the video was) said Nationstates is a really underrated website that’s pretty fun. Anyways, I got hooked. I spent my first few months doing only issues, since I didn’t even realize the scope of the site. Out of curiosity, I did some WA stuff, one of my first forum posts was a really shitty draft resolution called "ban Aristocracies". But I thought that’s all the forum was for. It wasn’t until I did a bad WW1 RP that I realized the true scope of the forums and gameplay, and I’ve been an active member on role-play and NSG since.

He does play Cities Skylines, however, I have not watched him in about a year.

According to ancient traditions, the man behind the nation of HB was bored out of his mind when he decided "I want to go on a massive power trip, but I don't want to do any work." And so he told his computer "Let there be light!" and it was good. He searched up 'fictional nation simulator' and, after a brief period on the website 'Cybernations', he found the lands of NS. He founded his first nation, a name lost to time (not really, I just forgot the password and I am frankly embarrassed by my posts) and it was good... no wait, it was awful. As such, he quickly got bored and abandoned the site for approximately 2 years before he founded the nation of Hammer Britannia... and it was awful too, but he stuck around this time.

I was introduced to it by a user claiming to be Max Barry [not a joke - IIRC his nation was Herbshire, or something like that] on a city-building website back in 2013 -and I had just recently played an online simulator about conquering whole countries with minimal effort.

Around mid-2013, I started to get bored & wandered off - also due to the fact that I could no longer sign into my nation due to it being DEAT'd for justifiable reasons. Those were dark days.

So, how did I eventually come back to this place? Answer: I wanted to see if it was still around, after having a nostalgic moment about it. In October 2018, I set up a new nation... and the rest is history.

...and now I wish to forget everything that happened prior to this year.

Some people back in Year 9 geography distracted me from Mr Brown's chronic body odour problem with tales of a website where you could invade regions held by people of a different ideology and cause trouble (also there was some kind of political simulation attached?)

This had the not surprising result of me warning all the left wing regions they were going to invade beforehand so everything they tried went to shit and they rage quit.

I hung around for a few years just doing issues and reading the forum then I set up a new nation and started posting on it when I was doing politics at A-Level. I lurked for so long because I was a naive pure cinammon roll and thought you had to be politically informed before you could post here.
