The first ever Card Olympics

Welcome one welcome all to the first ever Card olympics! The winners will be announced at the end of the month! All games will have a Gold medal for 1st, Silver for 2nd and a Bronze for 3rd.
The best part of winning a Gold medal is that you will win a copy of Psypheria!

All nations are welcome to join and you are welcome to submit times as often as you would like in this thread anytime set after the creation of this thread is allowed. To submit a time for consideration please post the nation or nations names below in this thread and I will tabulate an official time.

The games are as follow:
Single fastest 5 issues answered:
For this game all you need to do is answer 5 issues on a nation as fast as you can. I will be manually checking the answering speed based on the national activity page so please post your nation's name and I will handle tabulating the time. Remember it only counts if you answer all five issues. Your time starts once the first one is answered and only ends when you have answered all 5 issues.

Fastest 10 puppet run with 5 issues (50 issues):
This game is similar to the Single fastest 5 issues but times how long it takes you to answer 50 issues. This means that you can have 50 puppets with 1 issue each or 10 puppets with 5 issues each. As long as you answer 50 issues as quickly as possible. Same deal as above please post all of your puppets in the order that you answered the issues. I will then tabulate the speed.

In addition to the issue answering games I will be tabulating and awarding Gold/Silver/Bronze medals for nations with the most cards. I will also compute a leader-board at the end of the event with the top 100 and 500. At this time there will not be any prizes for this category

As the host of the events I will not be eligible for winning any prizes for issue answering speed but will rather will post my time and should anyone be able to beat my time will win a copy of Nastic 2*. You will also have bragging rights as the Fastest Player in Nationstates Cards.

To be fair, I thought that in the beginning as well. When I found out you could have multiple tabs I was like "wow ok then".

So you got 4 seconds on one tab? That's hella impressive.

Yeah, just went through my card farm spending 6-8 seconds on each puppet, pretty happy with that.

Thanks for posting the video, otherwise I probably would have never realized the multiple window thing. With multiple tabs it's as easy as opening multiple windows and clicking really fast now, not that hard to get 1 second tbh. I think the terms of this competition may need to be reevaluated.

The issue I have with this is that in theory the five issue test should reflect how quickly a nation is able to go about answering issues before moving on to the next puppet, but obviously when going through puppets you aren't really going to open tabs or windows.

Am I correct in understanding that, despite the name of the competition, all that matters is the number of issues answered, regardless of the number of puppets?

I know, that I´m sometimes accused of being elitist, moralistic and other names like this, but isn´t the "card game" only a sideshow to NS, and isn´t the intention of running some nation(s) on NS to answer issues for directing said nation(s) in a specific way ?
Well, since it´s legal for a player to have as many puppets as he/she likes, I guess it´s not the way NS was found (and run) by Max Barry (and the admins and mods) for a player to create tons of farms or puppets for a sole purpose, such as "card farming". Again, it´s not illegal to do so, but this "Olympics", simply based on how anyone would click and "answer" issues without even looking at them, not to speak of reading and/or rethinking really takes the cake imo, especially, since there is a price on winning the competition.
I do regard the fact, that some "farmers" are getting more and more bored over times and therefore need some kind of entertainment, but I say, this competition is a contradiction to the NS-game and also an affront to players, who are interested in running their nations honourably (by answering issues to reach some goal for their nations).

Usually, since card farming takes place on puppets for the sole purpose of getting cards, the result of issues isn't important since any option has an equal chance of generating a pack and it doesn't affect the main nation.

Let me tell you a story, and an example after;
I changed school when i was 12-13 years old. There I had a classmate with slight autism, and my other classmates were constantly bullying him, and i was of course shocked why they are so cruel, so I befriended him.
I found out that, this guy is living in patterns; never doing anything what he should not suppose to do (you can imagine how frustrating it is to other 'normal' kids, while they trying their borders and experiencing the world)
My other classmates said that he often warned them to not speak, dont cheat, dont play because thats the rules and they should not supposed to. Of course first they just laughed and told him ok and they did their way, but my friend could not accept this behaviour and told it to teachers (who of course did not handle it well), and they regulated them. I could tell a lot more about this, but i don't want to write a post which noone reads.. so my friend had a part of his life when he wanted to kill himself because of the constant bullying.

And my example is; I played a lot of World of Warcraft back when i was kid and there were two ways to play it; be a PvP-er, or a PvM-er, so compete against other players or beat big NPC (non player character) bosses in 40 man raids. So, thats how its supposed to do.. but i liked leveling so i just tried out every character, leveling them and at the end just played whatever, helped others. I never participated in raids (PvM), and however i did some PvP content, but not in organized system with others, not in high levels.

So with this i just wanted to say; Do you or your rights to anything get damaged by those who playing NS for the card game? I think not.
There are a lot of games which can be played in several ways, I dont think we should be mad because some people playing a game differently than we do. At least until it does not hurts our rights. If you don't like the way they play then just visit the sections of the forum where same-playstyle people write. Since what you doing now is just a base for unrest and conflict for not a single worthy reason.

I am sorry btw, my english is bad, since it is not my mother language.

Yes the focus is to get 50 issues the puppet count does not matter

Coffin at first I was annoyed by a seemingly ranty post again by you but then I reflected on history and remembered very offten boycotting the olpmyics has been employed as a political protest (1980 and 1984 during the cold war). So now I find it more fitting.

As brought up earlier I had no idea the rules I set forth could be twisted and out of the box thinking that came up to manage to answer 5 issues in 0 secounds server time however I am still equaly impressed and a man of my word so nastic 2 will still be gifted to the fastest nation or in the event that a different nation holds the top speed for both events a random drawing of the two.

To fix the issue for the next cards olpymics with this game it may be the fastest 5 sandwiched between puppets so you would have to run 3 puppets or you have to start form a single tab. I'm open to thoughts from the community as to fine tune these games as well as any other games that could fit nicely in. I would love to run these monthly or bi monthly depending on how quickly I can turn up worth while prizes

I guess, I should have to declare my understanding of the meaning of the (NS) game : Max Barry founded this game (imo), as well as he wrote his novels, with the intention and reason not only for entertainment, but for somehow "teaching" people about basic principles of states, governments, societies and how governmental decisions and policies reflect, influence (not always in the suspected/expected ways) and have their repercussions on the world/nation.
A lot of people, admins, mods and others (btw. : many thanks for doing this) invest lots of time and skill to keep NS running, interesting and attracting (as it is for hundreds of thousands of players worldwide) without any financial gain. Lots of new players flock to the game, as well as many others are staying in NS for years or even decades.
To keep all this under control and manageable, as well as to maintain a climate of "relatively" free speech, opinion expression, equality, aso the game (and the forums) have a set of rules, covering almost every possible situation; but since it´s in the interest and intention of the game, to allow multiple nations for every player (for testing out multiple styles of reigning, or simply just for fun), there´s no rule to limit the use of puppets/farms (except for WA membership), and since it´s impossible to judge, if a player "plays" his/her puppets/farms or simply runs them for a single purpose (which in this special case means "card farming") and randomly answering issues by randomly "clicking" on them, there obviously can`t be one.
I do very well know, that the "card game" is only a kind of a side-show for NS, but nevertheless in my opinion running hundreds or maybe even thousands of "farms" is against the meaning and intention of the NS-game (same as, for example,countless puppet generating for raiding/protecting/liberating events), and therefore I´m against it.
Maybe I´m wrong, or maybe I´m simply to moralistic or "puristic", but that´s my point of view and the reason behind me opposing "big farming" and the incidents, events and occurances resulting from.

Just to add : "go there, where you find people of your play-style, if you dont like" reminds me drastically of "love it or leave it", or the german version "geh doch nach drüben, Kommunist, wenn´s Dir hier nicht passt" of the cold-war aera; I assume, it wasn´t meant this way, but as a friendly advise, because we all should be glad, that this aera has gone some times ago and gladly isn´t (and also shouldn´t be) repeated in here (NS-forum).

It´s not a "political protest", it´s simply my personal opinion on this event; as well as I find the idea inventive and somehow funny (seen the result of 0:00), and evidence of great dedication of your person to the "card-game" and NS itself, I have to oppose the basics and intentions behind, as I´m against "farming" for various reasons (some of them stated in my other posting above).
As I have lived through the "cold war aera" as an adult (in Europe), I had not to reflect, only to remember; believe me, I´m glad, that this aera is gone (halfways), it was no fun (of course, always better than a "hot" war), with all the hatred, the lies, the uncertainities on both sides and the everpresent threat of an atomic apocalypse; we all should make sure, that this will have no chance of coming back again...and that our worst problems are rantings about play-style or enormous prices for NS-cards...

I did not live in that era, but the marked part of your post totally sounds like the current situation of our world today.
I am not sure if what is coming next is any better than it was before. If we look at our species, our whole history is just bloodsheding, war, suffering, and pain.. Of course, if your "group" is reigning at the moment, then its full of happiness; but someone always has to pay double the price in suffering for your happiness.

And for last words, i think this "tribal thinking" (left and right) is so deep in us, we cant even change it collectively. Even if you can in a small-medium group then you all will be crushed by those who cant/dont want to understand that our progress, our future can only be fruitful through understanding and cooperation. Maybe you're right, people should be restricted to the frames of certain rules, and should only play like they supposed to; then everything would be nice and we could live in a peaceful and harmonic world.
But then comes the question; who will be that "godlike" emperor who will frame the rules for us. ..It will be just a human being again; sinful, corrupt. And even if his/her intentions were good, won't be able to stick to it, it is just not possible.

I mean i still say that, if someone playing the whole game for the card game then so be it. A lot of people still happily reads and solves the issues which are made by a lot of work and care of our issue creators, and editors. <3 I think the only ones who could say a word here are them.. if they feel damaged by these kind of "non-reading click games". But I dont think they are. Its like when my grandpa' gave a rope to us to attach the dog to the pole, and we instead used it to play some jumping rope.. well, he was right, the dog gone away and caused some trouble in the neighbourhood, but.. anyway, i don't think i can change the thinking of someone who is about my dad's age (no offense), and it has not even have any purpose, haha.. but with this we can see that how difficult it really is to "progress through understanding and cooperation" for a better world. It's just impossible.

I am all for heart felt messages and what not and your feelings but please don't post them here and thread jack this away from a fun event as I intended it to be. If you wanted to make a statement one post was plenty to say hey I'm against this here's why. Then please move on. The real life fourm is a much better fit for this sort of discussion or your own thread if you want to tie it back to cards.
