Premier League only with local players? teams with more international players will level down (Liverpool, Chelsea, etc.) while those with more English will not have much change, believe me a long time ago I thought what would happen if all players must play to their country of origin.

Existing players will be fine, they already have the work permits.

No worries, once the ECHR jurisdiction does not contain the UK anymore, EPL clubs can do this to their players :)

Britain needs to leave the Council of Europe for that.
I'm sure that's BoJo's next target.

If there were any rigid restrictions on foreign players in UEFA, they should at least be universal. For example, in the Asian Champions League, only four players in each squad can be foreign, and only three from outside of Asia, regardless of domestic foreign player restrictions.

UEFA comps and them Prem to do operate homegrown talent rules which are universal.
The thing about work permit rules differentiating between EU and non-EU citizens means that it's really easy to fill your squad with EU players one you're above the homegrown rule. If you start applying the work permit rules, which require the foreign player to either be an international player or really expensive, to EU players, you start locking the poorer teams out of buying the EU players who would've qualified.

For example, under work permit rules, Leicester would not have been able to sign N'golo Kanté. Which, let's be honest, would have stopped them from getting the PL title.

I think the UK will stay in the Council of Europe: even Russia is in (they recently got their voting rights back), but that’s for another thread.

I think foreign players are here to stay in the Premier League, because there is a lot to lose from restricting foreign players: their presence contributes to the fact that the Premier League is the most-watched sports league in the world.

I doubt that Pep Guardiola would have left the club, mainly because the situation at Manchester City is nothing like what is going on at Highbury. Arsenal is only 7 points above the relegation zone, and they have to start winning matches again to allay fears of relegation.

Man Cuty Banned For 2 Seasons

Postby Farnhamia » Fri Feb 14, 2020 12:35 pm

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/14/spor ... e-ban.html

Manchester City, the reigning Premier League champion, has been barred from the Champions League for the next two seasons for “serious breaches” of European soccer’s financial regulations. The club has also been fined 30 million euros ($32.5 million).

Manchester City had sought to short circuit the investigation by financial regulators at UEFA — and preserve its place in the Champions League, European soccer’s richest competition and the trophy the club covets most — by appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. But in November the court rejected the appeal, in which City had tried to end the investigation on procedural grounds, by ruling that it could not hear the case until the club had exhausted the disciplinary process at UEFA.

They used to be everybody's team when they beat United for their first title but now they've become hated.

I just learned of this while checking on Liverpool. A Premier League points deduction against Man City may be game, set and match for the Reds, and Jurgen Klopp can stop being so cautious.

Leicester would still technically be in the title race and it’s not really over until it’s mathematically impossible for anyone else to catch up.

But yeah, that would basically seal the league for Liverpool.

City's ban will increase the chances Man United get into the Champions League. Wonder if Ole will still be at the wheel for that...

It is not over until certain titles are stripped from City for cheating and they are relegated as was Juventus in early 00s.

actually, allegri or ancelotti, but i think that mourinho had some general agreement with levy some weeks before he was actually hired, possibly before ancelotti left napoli, possibly even in summer.

Because he's a better fit for Tottenham. The team went to Champions' Cup finals because of him.

Currently Sheff United is in the 5th place spot. Imagine the scene if they get in.

On the other hand, United's only three points behind the Europa League spot!
