So I just finished another play through of shield. I honestly still stand by my initial opinion of the game. It is a rushed and flawed game (the story is quite shallow and I honestly did not find a lot to do post game) but I think the gameplay is still just as fun as ever, the soundtrack is amazing, the animation looks good and many of the new pokemon look cool, and I found many of the characters likable. I would rate the game a 5 to 6/10. Pretty average and kind of a downgrade from previous gens but not awful.

Bear in mind that a lot of people who sign up for groups, vote negatively in polls, and even write out explanations of why they're not buying the game are just letting off steam about a game they're disatisfied with, and not necesarilly indicative of all boycotters. It's pretty rude to deny others that outlet by saying, Nope, boycotts are ineffective, too bad, can't do nothing. Boycotts are probably ineffective on a large scale, but they can and do work for individuals. (And sometimes only as a story to make them feel better.)

e: But sure, if the goal is to reduce such a large chunk of sales or stop sales, they're delusional. I don't think the largest audience even knows exactly what they're buying beyond Pokemon.

Those are just the first pages. L4D2 went on to sell 12 million and MW2 has lifetime sales of 25 million.


The whole point of a boycott is to deny sales on a massive scale to make a point to the creators that what they did was wrong.

It failed in this case, as it did every single time a pre launch boycott was tried. Post launch boycotts work. But even then we only have an example of one game doing that, Battlefront 2 (2017)

Feeling the need to give my Pokémon hot takes. I’m not a big Pokémon player, I just, y’know, like Pokémon.
Note: It should be obvious which games I grew up playing.

Snivy is one of the best starters. Just look at that adorable smug lil’ snake.
In fact, all the Gen V starters have wonderful first forms, and Snivy/Oshawott’s evos are pretty dang good.
Tepig’s are kinda bleh though.
But y’know, I’ll say it. I’m not scared. Gen V is a tippity-top tier gen when it comes to cute starters and Snivy/Oshawott are very high on my rankings.

Charmander is, in my opinion, overrated. Least cute of the Gen 1 starters and Charizard isn’t really that cool.
Charmeleon is also the worst second form of the starters.

Trubbish is absolutely adorable. He is my garbage boy.

Maybe it’s just nostalgia but I kinda miss the 2D sprite based aesthetic.

They’re well liked and still, somehow, underrated.

Stats can get outta my face. If I have to choose between a perfectly min-maxed Pokémon or my terrible starter, I’m choosing my starter.
I mean, this probably isn’t an unpopular opinion either, now that I think about it. Min-maxers might just be more prevalent online. I dunno.

I liked Shaymin a lot more before the 11th Pokémon film characterised it as an obnoxious brat. I still greatly enjoyed the film and find Shaymin adorable, but it was quite annoying. My personal favourite mythical Pokémon is Celebi.

Oh you guys are gonna love this. You can transfer gen 1 and 7 starters in Sword and Shield right now. I got a Litten through surprise trade.

A lot of people seem to not like that, but I felt it made it was a more realistic reaction on the part of adults or older siblings.

Now, only if the games would let me bring in my living dex collection, then it would be nearly perfect.

Pokemon Home got released for Switch, iOS, and Android.

Apparently you can get a few pokemon doing various things on it. Pichu and Rotom are the ones I remember.

Edit: Allegedly, you can now transfer 35 new pokemon over to Sword and Shield using it

I greatly enjoyed it as well, even though none of the Pokémon from my personal team (Swampert, Salamence, Scizor, Chansey, Alakazam, Infernape) are currently available in it. I agree the story route choice was interesting, but I do wish they had done it differently - my main idea is that they could have had Macro Cosmos doing bad things across the region and framing Team Yell, thus making Team Yell actually seem antagonistic. That way, the battle against Piers could have had greater meaning for the player, thinking that they were facing the villain team boss, and the subsequent revelation would have given the team up not long afterwards some real substance.

This is interesting - Zacian, Zamazenta and Eternatus cannot Dynamax, so I had assumed that would apply to all Legendary Pokémon, but I can Dynamax my Kyurem-White without issue.

I've played Gen 5 (an emulated replay of it is in progress but I haven't touched it in a while), the Gen 3 remakes and Gen 7.

My favourite Pokémon is Azumarill, mainly because they are adorable as hell, but they have proven to be a decent one to have on your team.

It is good to see this thread having some activity again. I have been playing quite a bit recently - teambuilding on Sword and Shield, berry farming on Shining Pearl while waiting for Home compatibility, monotype runs of Brilliant Diamond and Let's Go Eevee, and I downloaded an emulator the other day to play Crystal for the first time in what has to be nearly two decades.

So, anyone getting Legends? I’m torn at the moment. I’d been waiting for it and was going to buy it on release, but the leaked pokedex is so lackluster I’m not sure if I’ll buy it at all anymore.
