They can shoot someone who has a gun and is shooting at them or others or refuses to put the gun down, and the same with other kinds of weapons. Sapient ponies can use the magic from their horns to hold things/suspects.

The scale used in the General Examinations uses the letters O, E, G, A, P and S, commonly known as the ŒGAPS scale (pronounced 'ee-gaps'). The letters stand for 'Outstanding' (95%), 'Excellent' (90%), 'Good' (80%), 'Acceptable' (65%), 'Passing' (50%) and 'Substandard' (sub 50%). Some schools use OEGAPF where F stands for Failing, although this is not common.

For the Exhibition Examinations, letters are not used, and instead the phrases improbatur (not approved), rite approbatur (duly approved) and cum laude approbatur (approved with praise) are used. Being rite approbatur does not guarantee one a place at university, however, and one must 'appeal' to a college to admit one.

In university, students graduate solely in the basis of examinations.
