Artemis Application
General Information
Full Nation Name: The Federal Republic of Votyalia
Short Name: Votyalia
Population: 90-125 million
Brief synopsis of your nation:
Votyalia is a democratic semi-presidential republic, with a strong history of electoral integrity and political competition since the fall of the Votyalic monarchy in 1935. Characterized by this generally open political scene, Votyalia has struggled in the realm of economic advancement. Relying on a system of serfdom until the tail end of the 19th century, the monarchist regime was slow to adapt to industrialization, and ultimately these failures led to the 1935 revolution and ouster of the Petrov dynasty. Though it has been nearly a century since this event, Votyalia still struggles with its economics, and an aging population intersects with a youth demographic which is impatient for change.

Votyalia’s characteristically stable democratic systems are also under greater duress than might be expected at first glance. While they have been robust in promoting relatively centrist, democratic politicians and ideologies, recent inroads made by the rehabilitated Petrov family have brought both revolutionary and monarchist sentiments back to the forefront of Votyalic backroom politicking. With the election of pretender Karl II Petrov as President of the Republic in 2000, and his reelection in 2005, the family has entrenched itself as a blue chip political family where once it ruled with absolute power.

Difficulties with regard to integration and past transgressions in the part of both the Republican and monarchist regimes run abound. In particular, atrocities committed by both sides in the aftermath of the 1935 coup d’etat which unseated Karl II Petrov’s father, and alleged mistakes made during later instability through the 1960s and 1970s when government forces put down separatist and religion-based revolts in rural areas of the nation, remain common themes.

Preferred Map Location: Already designated

Culture
What languages are spoken? Russian, tentatively to be called Votyalic; Ukrainian, Georgian, Armenian, Kazakh, Uzbek, Kyrgyz, etc. as appropriate
What religions are practiced? Depending on how Christianity breaks down, some form of eastern rite or orthodoxy with heavy eastern-slavic mystic elements
Brief description of your nation’s culture and history:
Votyalic culture can be considered to put a major emphasis on communities, particularly on small scale villages and communes. Due to the size of the country and relative difficulty of travel until modern technological advancement, these small communities developed closely, and in many ways independently of one-another. While modern globalization has chipped away at these standards, they remain the bedrock of Votyalic social life. Most celebrations such as birthdays and weddings involve entire villages, and these practices have adapted in some ways to city life in apartment blocks and other high density residences. This quasi-independent community-based culture can provide a support system for Votyalic peoples, but it can also prove a roadblock for progress as people cling to their home villages and communities. Particularly could be an issue in communities based around unsustainable practices, such as coal mining.

The 1935 revolution offers opportunity to interfere, as does the period of instability in the 1960s-70s. While the revolution and subsequent civil war provide more obvious routes - fears of what might rise in the place of the monarchy, justified fears of the assault of minorities, and the destruction of historical artifacts as well as valuable resources provide just a few options - the 60s-70s instability could see the state on the verge of toppling to not!communist or monarchist forces. The latter era could involve economic depressions, nationalist tendencies, and steps toward the breakup of the state depending on interest. It could culminate in devolving of powers and significant changes to the constitution, not to mention significant foreign complications.

Government & Economy
What is the current political situation in your nation?
The nation is currently politically stable, as political stability goes. The bicameral Federal Assembly consists of the lower State Duma, or Gosduma which is directly elected via MMP and the upper Zemsky Sobor, or Assembly of the Land and often referred to as the Zemsksobor. The lower house is under the control of a majority government and there currently exist no signs of the government collapsing, while the upper house is under the control of opposition parties.
Brief description of your nation’s government:
Power is shared between the popularly elected President and the indirectly-elected Prime Minister, who is nominated by the most powerful party in the Gosduma and officially selected by the President. The government generally can be split into several branches, with the Executive and Legislative branches meshing together depending on the executive power granted to the Prime Minister in unofficial terms from the Office of the President. The President, as head of state, commonly conducts foreign policy and has the power of review and veto over legislation passed by the Gosduma; the Prime Minister usually has power over the domestic agenda, though it is easier for the President to interfere here than it is for the Prime Minister to interfere in foreign affairs.

The Assembly is the only national legislature, and the Gosduma is directly elected via mixed-member proportional representation while the Zemsksobor is indirectly elected via constituent state parliaments. The state is federal, with significant powers devolved to regional bodies. The President serves for a term of seven years, while the Gosduma sits for a period of five years. While nominally prejudices and the mistreatment of minorities is illegal, it exists, and the state has been slow to cull perpetrators.
What is your nation’s primary industries?
Likely oil, and the mining of precious minerals; agriculture, and general manufacturing.
What are its main exports? Imports?
Exports: Oil, precious minerals; the swathe of land lends itself to value there, and in agriculture. Depending on economic history, probably manufactured goods as well.
Imports: luxury goods, services, banking, etc.; an energy exporter but in need of virtually all luxury goods, in addition to exotic foodstuffs.
Brief description of your nation’s economic situation:
The Votyalic economy is stable, if relatively undeveloped compared to states such as Alba. Wealth is concentrated in the upper class, though not to the degree of IRL Russia; the decentralized nature of the country and its late start to industrialization play a bigger role than corruption in the slowly growing economy. A lack of well-paying jobs, and general stagnation, provide a significant issue as young people look to either seriously reform or leave the country as economic migrants; the graying population is also problematic as state infrastructure is meant to deal with more and more elderly people.

Military
What is the primary purpose of your armed forces?
Depending on the breakdown of the geopolitical situation, Votyalia likely places more interest in its naval capability in modern times. If it is to be a player on the world-stage, then this navy may be significant, involving notable power projection and the presence of capital ships.
Brief description of your nation’s military’s capability:
Power projection could be significant, depending. This would affect logistical effectiveness and other elements. Under a powerful role, Votyalia would provide a powerful naval and “hands-off” air force, with a relatively small if professional land army. It would be unable to wage a long-term land war without a significant period to enlist and train land forces.

Diplomacy
What role do you see your nation fulfilling in the region?
All depends on interest, but I think Votyalia as a significant power could be worth exploring; one with a set of close allies pitted against other significant powers.
Who are its friends and who are its rivals?
Probably other liberal democratic states to the former, probably non-liberal democratic states to the latter. Neighbors such as Vrillissia would be targeted as friendly, while Kolchakska and Alba might be natural rivals.
Brief description of your nation’s diplomatic approach:
Likely an optimistic, liberal view of the world with a trust in global institutions such as the not!UN. Probably akin to a heavily watered down version of the (W.) Bush doctrine, which would allow for interests globally but not to the self-interested invasive degree which characterized the RL comparison. Basically enough to get its nose involved and help foment geopolitical RP.

Out Of Character Information
What are your former/current regions?
Ajax, Ixnay
What are your former/current nations?
Vannois, Seredinia, Yavorstrana
How did you hear about Artemis?
Can’t recall.
If asked to reduce the power/scope of your nation, how would you do so?
Nuking the population, taking on a less developed economic situation, and/or introducing more recent socio-economic and political strife via some combination of civil wars, ethnic conflict, and corruption on a broad scale.

Artemis Application
General Information
Full Nation Name: Republic of Deseret
Short Name: Deseret
Population: 28 million
Brief synopsis of your nation:
Deseret is a relatively young federal republic of seven provinces united by a shared cultural and religious heritage. The Smithic faith dominates the nation under the Celestial President in Zion, being morphed distinctly by the local culture wherever it exists. Despite this cultural unity, the nation is divided between the interests of the liberal, federalist Nauvites in Nauvoo and the conservative, confederalist Kimbalists in Nephi. All the while, on the shores of Lake Halcyon, the Lamanites watch their ancient rivals as the nation's kingmakers, taking sides where convenient and pushing their own interests of ethnic autonomy and favorable policy.

Much of the nation's population lives in small cities scattered around the country, with the largest being Bountiful, Nauvoo, and Nephi. A once strong agricultural economy is suffering as it is surpassed by manufacturing and services, highlighting the growing divide between the rural and urban areas. Having disposed of the old theocracy a century ago, the people seem to be liberalizing and distancing themselves from the old faith. The church is struggling to appeal to young Deseretans, and as such is doubling its efforts to bring in new blood from abroad.
Preferred Map Location:
Image

Culture
What languages are spoken? English (Deseretan Alphabet), other immigrant languages.
What religions are practiced? Smithic, with some Christian(?) minorities.
Brief description of your nation’s culture and history: Deseret has historical roots in the ancient Kingdom of the Jaredites, and the later Kingdoms of the Lamanites and Nephites. With the collapse of the Smithic theocracy and subsequent confederation of the provinces at the turn of the 20th century, Deseret became a bastion of liberal thought and practice. The people are fairly religious, though this is changing, with most of the nation following the Smithic doctrine, carrying a cultural legacy of community and comradeship. In the cities, a progressive mindset has taken hold, seeking to push the nation forward with disregard for the old ways. In response and contrast, the rural communities have drawn closer to their faith, creating expectations of unhealthy perfectionism.

Government & Economy
What is the current political situation in your nation? Deseret is relatively politically stable, with strong liberal democratic institutions, allowing a variety of ideologies to exist in the political scape.
Brief description of your nation’s government: The government is broken into the federal and provincial power. The federal power is divided amongst three branches, the Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary. A system of checks and balances ensures that a strong executive leadership, empowered legislative majority, or ambitious judicial body would be hampered in an effort to seize power. The nation's dedication to liberal ideals means an insurance of personal and civil rights, though there exist opportunists who would seek to limit the rights of their enemies. The empowerment of the provinces can be a blessing and a curse, as local government can both protect the rights of their citizens and also stifle them. The federal government is slowly accumulating power in response to the provinces, creating an environment ripe for corruption and authoritarian policy.
What is your nation’s primary industries? Agriculture, manufacturing, mining, information technology, and finance.
What are its main exports? Imports?
Exports: Foodstuffs, manufactured goods, e-products, and luxury products.
Imports: Oil, lumber, some minerals, foodstuffs, manufactured goods, and industrial equipment.
Deseret's main partners are likely its neighbors, though in a global world its products would be seen in many nations.
Brief description of your nation’s economic situation: Deseret is a growing manufacturing and service economy, suffering from growing pains as its agricultural and mining industries suffer from the transition. The economy is slowly building toward a recession as farms close and unemployment rises, but doesn't seem to face imminent collapse due to federal intervention and regulation. The people, while not hugely wealthy, are, on average, moderately well off. The wealth tends toward the cities, with many rural communities facing widespread poverty.

Military
What is the primary purpose of your armed forces? The armed forces exist to protect the nation, but with no major enemies they mostly provide a humanitarian and policing role.
What is your military like? The military is divided into three branches, the Air Corps, Naval Corps, and Land Corps in order of importance. The nation's policy of air supremacy is paramount, allowing it to best utilize its limited population. Its focus on the air force has left the land forces understaffed, underfunded, and in a vulnerable position compared to other nations.
Brief description of your nation’s military’s capability: Deseret isn't a major military power, and as such has limited expeditionary capability. The emphasis of its doctrine is providing air support in coalition initiatives, reducing potential mass-casualities, but restricting its ability to secure objectives and act independently. It relies heavily on allied airbases to project much of its military force.

Diplomacy
What role do you see your nation fulfilling in the region? Deseret is a middle power, offering a useful ally and friend in wider diplomatic efforts. Culturally, it also provides a center of contemporary liberalism and democracy.
Who are its friends and who are its rivals? Deseret's friends would be nations that practice the same or similar liberal democratic traditions as itself. Rivals would include similar powers, but specifically authoritarian nations seeking to expand their ideology.
Brief description of your nation’s diplomatic approach: The nation seeks diplomatic solutions, and is willing to fight for itself and the rights of people diplomatically. It's optimistic about the world, and believes that democracy will eventually beat out authoritarianism in the world. It runs into tension with other nations over its religious beliefs, and can often overstep as it tries to push its ideology.

Out Of Character Information
What are your former/current regions? Greater Ixnay, Ajax
What are your former/current nations? Kronata, Fakolana, Kalakora
How did you hear about Artemis? I dunno, I just helped found it or something.
If asked to reduce the power/scope of your nation, how would you do so? Reducing the economic prowess and increasing the urgency of economic disruption. Making the political divide more pressing and with a deeper polarization than currently exists. Military could be reworked to better fit its status, if necessary.

Artemis Application
General Information
Full Nation Name:
The Republic of Verdan
Short Name:
Verdan
Population:
43,914,345
Brief synopsis of your nation:
Verdan is a unitary presidental republic. The country was one of the first in the world to become a republic in the late 18th century. In the present, Verdanian society is dominated by labour and while ostensibly a market system, a vast majority of companies are worker-owned syndicates and the government provides extensive social services such that the nation is frequently characterized as a socialist republic. The main political discourse in the present is between anarchic factions, which would prefer to see the government's powers decreased in favour of increased union and syndicate autonomy, and the social-democratic factions which maintain the importance of the government in democratic representation, international representation, and as a neutral agency to provide services. On the international stage, Verdan advocates for socialism generally and a universal standard of human rights, though it is more often pacifistic unless it believes it has enough existing support on an issue.
Preferred Map Location:
Where it is

Culture
What languages are spoken?
"!French"
What religions are practiced?
Generally secular but "!Catholicism" in both the present to a large degree and even more so historically
Brief description of your nation’s culture and history:
Culture:
Verdanian society centres around union membership and collectivism. Beyond republican values, secularism, skepticism, and existentialism are common themes in Verdanian philosophy and culture. Citizens also have a reputation as being distrustful and insular, relying on close-knit community groups. Immigration is largely dependant on policy and the government of the day, fluctuating between extreme restriction and comprising a majority of the nation's population growth accordingly. Racing is widely accepted to be the national sport and pastime. Both cycling and open-wheel motor racing are particularly popular.
History:
Gallic Empire secedes from !Rome in the 3rd c. CE, Germanic invasions further fracture the Empire into smaller kingdoms including the Kingdom of Verdan by the 9th c. The kingdom largely resists both conquests and unions until the late 18th c. when economic difficulties and rapid radicalization see the overthrow of the monarchy and the installation of a republic. The next major milestone is at the beginning of the 20th century when a quiet revolution dislodged the capitalist class.

Government & Economy
What is the current political situation in your nation?
The ideological underpinnings and social situation in the country are extremely stable, though differences between the coalitions of the anarchistic Industrial Liberty Front and the social-democratic Social-Progressive Party run deep and appear to be irreconcilable.
Brief description of your nation’s government:
Despite a radical civic society, the structure of the government is more normative, operating as a unitary democratic republic with an independent executive. General elections occur every 4 years and seats in the unicameral legislature are filled by a party-list proportional representation voting system. More radically, workplaces are equally democratic and citizens are as likely to view their union and syndical elections with at least as much importance as governmental elections. Workers in syndicates vote not only for their union representatives, but also their overseers and supervisors.
What is your nation’s primary industries?
Light manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, cereal production, mining, post-industrial
What are its main exports? Imports?
Exports:
Pharmaceuticals, construction materials, luxury consumables, post-industrial products, minerals
Imports:
Tea, energy, industrial equipment
Brief description of your nation’s economic situation:
Due to heavy regulation, the economy is extremely stable but relatively stagnant. The economy is highly-developed with a strong service sector, though manufacturing and refinement. is underrepresented in comparison to that and to primary industry. Income distribution is rather even across the entire population, though certain syndicates are certainly more profitable than others and certain unions have stronger bargaining positions than others.

Military
What is the primary purpose of your armed forces?
Defensive with limited interventionist capabilities to comply with international treaty obligations should the need arise.
What is your military like?
Heavily land-based with reasonable air support but a lean navy. Though few in number, the forces are well-equipped.
Brief description of your nation’s military’s capability:
Few zones within the nation are heavily militarized though forces are capable of rapid deployment to any corner of the nation should the need arise. WIthin and beyond its borders, Verdan relies heavily on its infantry and artillery doctrines even in the 21st century. Its troops are highly capable of reconnoitering unfamiliar terrain and using it to their advantage, especially in the circumstances of a prolonged land war.

Diplomacy
What role do you see your nation fulfilling in the region?
While not a particularly small nation, Verdan's potential power projection is limited by social and economic factors and priorities. Nevertheless, the nation often attempts to exert soft power to forward a progressive agenda on the global stage.
Who are its friends and who are its rivals?
Verdan is generally friendly with other socialist states regardless of the form of socialism, but extremely distrustful of dictatorships; particularly monarchies. Illiberal societies are also viewed with a degree of distrust. Generally, Verdan prioritizes positive relations with its neighbours but will often refuse to compromise its values.
Brief description of your nation’s diplomatic approach:
Verdan seeks to form a core group of allies and work from there, mirroring the closed nature of its civil society. It may take incentives for Verdan to move beyond its core associates, but the nation always has objectives in mind.

Artemis Application
General Information
Full Nation Name: The Technocratic Union of Cheongmae + The Democratic Republic of Rahm Tai (Unsure of combo name)
Short Name: Cheongmae + Rahm Tai
Population: 38.73 Million + 54.29 Million
Brief synopsis of your nation:
Preferred Map Location:
Image
Culture
What languages are spoken? Seojal(Korean), Keiyan(Japanese), + Raji (Thai) Zaio (Lao)
What religions are practiced? Shinto+Shamanistic Fusion + N’nhivara, Animist faiths.
Brief description of your nation’s culture and history: Relevant history begins with the historic establishment of the Grand Empire of Thae Kaew.(อาณาจักรแห่งทะเลแก้ว) The empire, beginning in the region that was the northern Rahm Tai, proceeded to extend it’s grasp over both the southern entities of Cheongmae, and what would eventually become Keiyan. When the empire eventually fractured, in part due to heavy rebellion in Keiyan(Late 1500s), tensions from the south eventually led to the entities of Rahm Tai and Cheongmae forming a bilateral treaty and agreement, unifying their military, navy, and working to bolster both of the states as to work in tandem against the now sour relations from the former holding. This unification expanded gradually to include a common currency, free movement of goods and people across the shared border, common foreign policy, and a few other shared governmental responsibilities. When tensions from the south faded, (Period of war from 1600s to 1800s) the states found that without any strain, there was little necessity to separate, and the militaristic aspects began to lighten, albeit as more neighbors as established, reason will be given for it to still have some active force. The current states(revolutions from traditional system approx 1913) are currently well integrated with one another, but with the advent of deviating political systems and separate economies are beginning to beget more questions to the level of unification, and what the future holds for the dual states altogether.

Government & Economy
What is the current political situation in your nation? Both governments are relatively stable, and work in tandem due to the degree of separation held between the two. The Technocratic Cheongmae continues to evolve and develop in response to functionality with the technocratic southern neighbor of Keiyan, whilst the state of Rahm Tai is currently in consideration of shuffling and changing definition of province boundaries, based upon a growing population. The governing council that sits between the two (akin to European Union Council) is facing the most questions as of now, as the ideas of further integration, separation, or maintaining their current status become more salient.
Brief description of your nation’s government: Cheongmae is a technocratically-based oligarchy with a council of 3, with overlapping term limits set to seven years each, that go through a series of exams and a judicial review process. As the political system ages, so does the intensity of the exams and the review, adding the performance, decisions, and situations of the prior trinity as part of the necessary process. In Rahm Thai, the republican system functions with around 55 separate provinces, each of which serves both as a parliamentary entity, a governing entity for their individual provence, and the electing body to the general executive figure, which term limits for all entities set to five years. A council, appointed by the leading entities from both countries to serve life-long (or until retirement) terms, serves to administer and discuss policy that impacts both entities.
What is your nation’s primary industries?Cheongmae works far more into the fields of shipbuilding, automobiles, and transportation services, while Rahm Tai looks more into the fields of electronic technologies, medicinal, and agricultural. Both have some form of ‘luxury’ import, although these deviant with Cheongmae specializing further into ornamental goods, whilst Rahm Tai is rich in biodiversity, and thus exotic food.
What are its main exports? Imports?
Exports: Manufactured Goods, Raw produce, transportation goods, medicinal goods, specific luxury goods
Imports: Timber, Oil, e-products, minerals, raw materials, clothes and textiles.
Brief description of your nation’s economic situation: Both Cheongmae and Rahm Tai exist in a stasis of socialist-oriented market economies to varying degrees of involvement, with levels of intra-state engagement existing to facilitate the transportation of goods and materials to both entities. However, Cheongmae has integrated more of the industries located and based in their nation into state-owned businesses, while in Rahm Tai the population of industries still remains more private. As anticipated, as the question of integration and how much the economies will begin to evolve or devolve away from one another, much of the economic world is wary, watching to see what future decisions hold. Wealth is more often distributed greater into urban centers, but the disparity between urban and rural areas isn’t tremendous.

Military
What is the primary purpose of your armed forces? Both the military and the navy are shared between the two nations, with a proportional percentage of both of the national budgets going into maintenance. While this force was initially kept to match the militaristic capacity of Keiyan, and intend to become more capable than them, with the end of hostilities and the fear of war, this is becoming less necessary, and the process of stabilizing and breaking down the military has been taking place, albeit enough is still kept in the range of other former members of the empire with less warm reception.
What is your military like?Because of the Bungye Strait/Akinada Sea, much of the military developed to be suited to both air and naval combat capacity, with a majority of land based military technologies being more defensively based than anything. While it was historically expansive, the military is in the process of shrinking, with the process having been a slow, and cautious effort.
Brief description of your nation’s military’s capability: Whereas it used to be capable of matching entirely with Keiyan, who was also mounting in militaristic capacity at the time, the state is slowly shrinking it, yet it is still at the state where it looks to other (future) neighbors with a subtle fear, and the military itself hasn’t shrunk immediately due to the fear of economic instability.

Diplomacy
What role do you see your nation fulfilling in the region? Potential source of contention and establishment of relations as a growing economy wavering on an onslaught of wary tension to the potential collapse or full integration of the dual state, whilst also dealing with potential cold tension and apprehensive due to recent history speaking to militarized borders and much ‘up in the air’ treatment to former members and rivals of the Thae Kaew Empire.
Who are its friends and who are its rivals? Once entangled in mounting hostilities with its southern neighbor of Keiyan, relations have since warmed considerably due to the cohesive nature of their economies, political systems, and a general unwillingness to destroy one another. The same cannot be confirmed for other former holdings of the Thae Kaew Empire.
Brief description of your nation’s diplomatic approach: As of recent times, the two intertwined nations hold a similar foreign policy, in which they actively attempt to warm relations with immediate neighbors, a contrast from the militarized wariness that used to define much of the relation to former holdings of the empire. For further entities, it really becomes more of an ideological context, with hesitated reactions held to deepening relations to entities that may reflect poorly on their own history of militant action.

Full Nation Name: Coalition of Coconeh Calpotlin
Short Name: “CCC” ; “Calpullali”
Population: 55 millions
Brief synopsis of your nation: The “Coalition of Coconeh Calpotlin”, or “CCC” for short, is a federal Calpullist state that has existed since the Flower and Cloud Revolution that overthrew the previous monarchy, and the subsequent civil war. The state adhere to the political ideology of “Nocalli tlahtōlli”, better known as “Calpullism” based around the decentralisation of public institutions and the collectivisation of private properties.
Preferred Map Location:

Culture
:
What languages are spoken?: Nahualt is the official language of the state, but dozens of recognized regional languages exist.
What religions are practiced?: The CCC is officially irreligious and the government continue to claim that there’s no followers of any religion inside the country. Since its creation, the CCC has been trying to purge all society of its religious elements, targeting preferentially temples, priests, and shamans. However, the Huitzixciotli still has a strong influence over the nation’s culture, with shamans still performing illegal ceremonies and rituals and the general population still making offerings and prayers to the gods, especially in the more rural areas. The CCC stance on this situation can at time be contradictory, but a status quo has started to emerge.
Brief description of your nation’s culture and history: In 1152, the Topanec founded their first principality on the shores of the Xaltocan Lake, alongside many other migrating tribes who came to fill the vacuum left by the fall of the “Second Tula”. The Topanec Principality would become the main force on the lake, and then in the valley, and from there in the surrounding regions, to the point it could claim to be a “Third Tula”. This empire would continue to grow and consolidate until it started to slowly dwindle and lose proeminence, which led to the “Flower and Cloud Revolution” and then to the civil war known as the “War of the Thousand Colors”.

It’s the Calpullists, led by Maxtatlon, the grand theoretician of the “Nocalli tlahtōlli” and his group of devoted partisans, who won the war and established a new federal, decentralized, society based on the teachings of their master. This society has survived to this day.

For most of its still-short history, the Coalition of the Coconeh Calpoltin has aimed to modernize the Topanec society, both economically and culturally, and to distance itself from what it considers to be “old fashioned”. The governing institutions weight heavily in the cultural development of society, keeping a watchful eye over both scholars, intellectuals, and artists, making sure they do not stray away from the correct political line and remain in service of Society.

Government & Economy
What is the current political situation in your nation?: The Coalition is a jaded communist state, who’s faced the limits of its model and doesn’t yet know if it should preserve the old partisan flame, or move to more moderate stances. For now it keeps an aggressive anti-imperialist rhetoric, and a well oiled system of various agencies to keep control of the population, notably in the urban centers. While there can be heated debates, both inside and outside of the Tlahtoloyan, about the next course of action to follow, it as yet to result in specific intrigues or purges of political opponents, as the situation is not yet tense enough to requires it, and no faction inside the government or its agencies have the strength to undertake such process.
Brief description of your nation’s government: Central authority and much executive powers is exerted by the Centlamantin, the de facto government, located in “capital city” of Yancuicopan. However, the central institution of the Coalition is legally the Mochicalpulleh Tlahtoloyan, the “Assembly of All the Callpulis Representatives” which serve as the main legislative organ of Calpullali. Theoretically, the Centlamantlin cannot act without the Assembly’s consent and is entirely subject to it. The Assembly is held in Hueynochtlan. The final institution of the coalition is the Hueyachcaucalli “Great House of Justice”, which is the highest court of the Coalition and serve to rule conflicts between two, or more, Calpoltin, constitutional disputes, and also cases involving a Centlamantin or a member of the Mochicalpulleh. The Hueyachcaucalli is based in Nepatepetl.
What is your nation’s primary industries?: Because of government policies, and while the agricultural sector was always proeminent with intensive farming and forestry, the Coalition always had its priority set on heavy industry and chemical production, originally as a way to compensate the “lag” accumulated by the previous Monarchy. Textile is also important, especially in countryside where waving factories have become the main source of revenues for many Calpotlin. Other light industries have also developed with time, such as the plastic, general goods, and paper sectors. Since the 21th century, the CCC is investing more and more in new technologies and energies, but it doesn’t represent a significant share of its economy yet.
What are its main exports? Imports?:
Export : Heavy machinery, consumer goods, clothes and textile, foodstuff, chemical products
Import : Oil, gas, rare-earth minerals, electronics, foodstuff, softwares, financial services.
Brief description of your nation’s economic situation: Despite having given up the idea of complete self-sufficiency, the CCC continue to strive toward it through investments and economic plans aiming at maintaining and adapting its production models to the necessity of the greater economy, with always the dread of being surpassed by more “capitalistic” economies.
The internal market is dominated by the Intercalpoltin Economic Agency and by the Clearing Union, dependent of the former. The Coalition has abandoned physical currencies for internal uses, and instead rely on a system of Mutual Credit where everyone wishing to sell or buy products has to have an open account at the Intercalpotlin Mutual Bank that start with an amount of zero credits. Credits are then added or withdrawn depending on the transactions. The account needs to be back of a total sum of zero before it can be closed. Unbalanced accounts will have to face national inspector to explain their situation, which can lead to condemnation to “public services” or “forced investments”. This permanent quest to balance out the accounts of every citizens and companies has created rules, objectives, and constraints considered to be specifics of the Calpullali economy.

Military
What is the primary purpose of your armed forces?: The Coalition Armed Forces have been created to ensure the protection of all the Calpulli in a way no smaller entities could. It has also been working on its power projection capacity, always as a way to ensure its capacity to “stand against capitalistic forces”.
What is your military like?:At its core, the Coalition Armed Forces are made of three professional components : the Land Forces, the Air Force, and the Marine. Theoretically, all citizens can be called to serve in the military if the situation requires it, but in practice unprofessional elements are limited to the “Calpotlin Militia”, remnant of the time when each Calpulli was expected to ensure its own protection.
Brief description of your nation’s military’s capability: The Coalition possess some form of expeditionary capability, has it often expect to act alone against multiple opponents on the world stage.

Diplomacy
What role do you see your nation fulfilling in the region?: A relatively large nation dedicated ideologically to socialism, even if it has become cynical about it. It can become either a boogeyman or an actual threat to nearby “liberal” nations, depending on how things evolve.
Who are its friends and who are its rivals?: It will naturally seek agreements and cordial ententes with other socialists nations, with all the sometime contradictory relations this implies. Because of its political and economical model, it will naturally place itself in opposition to nations more liberal than itself. In that regard, Calpullali’s cautiousness can devolve into proper paranoia.
Brief description of your nation’s diplomatic approach: Pessimistic, jaded, and somewhat cynical, Calpullali remain cautious, the idea that foreign powers were out to get it never leaving the minds of its political spheres. It is thus working hard to promote good relations with nations considered to be “compatible” with its system, and tread cautiously with other. It will not hesitate to get involved in foreign affairs if its technocrats deems it to be necessary, the “Interest of all the Callpulis” having replaced the more idealistic idea of the world revolution with time.

Out Of Character Information
What are your former/current regions?: Medieval Europe, Esquarium, Ajax
What are your former/current nations?: Grand Auvergne, Karazawa, Mutul, Drevstran
How did you hear about Artemis?: You know how
If asked to reduce the power/scope of your nation, how would you do so?: Reduced military, reduced population, economy in more of a shamble, all of these options.

Artemis Application
General Information
Full Nation Name: The Worker and Peasant Republic of Kolchakska
Short Name: Kolchakska
Population: 43 Million
Brief synopsis of your nation: The WPRK is a moderately sized communist state with a rather insular bent which focuses on dealings with it's allies while rhetorically targeting those it regards as class enemies. Dominated by the Chakska River, from which the country gets it's name, Kolchakska is filled with rolling steppe often filled with grain and other crops with the majority of the population living either along the river or on the coastline which holds a more temperate climate than the bitter winters which sweep the north.
Preferred Map Location: Where you put me

Culture
What languages are spoken? Majevican which may be Ukrainian, Srpskan (Serbian), Kulgrinden (some Finno-Ugric nonsense), whatever our Arabic equivalent will be, and a large proportion of the population will be passable in Russian/Votyalic
What religions are practiced? Some form of Orthodoxy and a local "Revolutionary" church, with a splash of our Islam equivalent
Brief description of your nation’s culture and history: Culturally Kolchakska is focused far more on class than ethnic origin with a state directed focus on collectivisation and class consciousness, however old values of family and clan hold true for most of the population. Small groups retain nationalistic leanings but these are heavily suppressed by the state.
History wise Kolchakska came into being around 400AD after a period of conquest and inter-breeding between Greek(?) and Islamic (?) trading ports and cities along the coast with the steppe peoples who raided them and later settled in the great plains. A Chakskan Khanate and a Srpskan duchy emerged which eventually after generations of war and intermarriage merged into the first Kolchakskan state. This was possibly conquered/married off into Votyalia for various periods in between independent ones. Then some sort of more recent civil war/revolution and independence.

Government & Economy
What is the current political situation in your nation? The liberal wing of the Kolchakskan Socialist Workers Party is currently the dominant faction within the political establishment of the nation, however the intelligence services and their allies in the military remained hardline and plot against perceived imperialists at home and abroad, adding a degree of instability to Kolchakska.
Brief description of your nation’s government: Effectively a one party dictatorship with sham elections, however a few separate left wing parties are allowed to exist along with a sanctioned, and emasculated, opposition to lend a veneer of legitimacy to the ruling party.
What is your nation’s primary industries? Heavy manufacturing and agriculture
What are its main exports? Imports? Exports would be raw materials in the form of iron, coal, timber as well as armaments and cheap farming/industrial equipment. In good years some grain would be available for export. Cheap manufactured goods would be more recent exports as well as providing some of the work on mass produced electronic items.
Imports would mainly be limited by diplomatic relations but would mainly be based around oil and luxury goods.
Brief description of your nation’s economic situation: Currently the Kolchakskan economy is steadily growing as it continues to open up to the free market after the disastrous collapse of the planned economy in 1986, however the constant threat of nationalisation and increased state control leaves the economy vulnerable to sanctions or an international financial crisis.

Military
What is the primary purpose of your armed forces? Defence of the nation and attempted domination of the local sea, as well as the provision of advisors and training to revolutionary movements worldwide.
What is your military like? Three separate services; land, sea and air, each with a small professional core bulked out by a yearly intake of conscripts.
Brief description of your nation’s military’s capability: The main focus of the military is to secure the border from perceived imperialist threats, while projecting enough power to be a significant player in the local area. There is the possibility for some projection further abroad but this would be a crippling logistical effort and unsustainable in the long run.

Diplomacy
What role do you see your nation fulfilling in the region?
Who are its friends and who are its rivals? Friends would be other states considered rogue or hostile, especially those who learn towards the revolutionary left of the political spectrum. A more pragmatic approach has been taken in the last 30 years so there is some burgeoning ties with democratic states. Votyalia is viewed as an existential threat, and their close allies would be seen in an equally dim view. Vrillissia as a state is probably viewed as an important neighbour to keep on side or at least neutral diplomatically.
Brief description of your nation’s diplomatic approach: In general Kolchakska would be an inward looking state avoiding interaction with the global community in the areas of international law and trade, preferring to build a community more closely aligned with it's political values. Overtly Kolchakska would support political parties aligned with Majevica whilst covertly encouraging and arming/training revolutionary movements in opposing states where possible.

Out Of Character Information
What are your former/current regions? Ajax, Aeneas
What are your former/current nations? Estoni
How did you hear about Artemis? The Romney 2020 Campaign directed me here
If asked to reduce the power/scope of your nation, how would you do so? I can drop the population to a more acceptable level, introduce a more recent economic crisis to cripple the nation or kill the party chairman to force the nation to look inward for a few years while there is a succession struggle and a concentrated effort to frame Malay for the death.

Artemis Application
General Information
Full Nation Name: Hessaro-Vlodomerian Monarchy
Short Name: Hessaria-Vlodomeria/Hessaria/Dual Monarchy/Dual Empire
Population: 73m
Brief synopsis of your nation: Hessaria-Vlodomeria is a devolved, unitary dual monarchy. Historically known simply as the Hessarian Empire, Hessaria-Vlodomeria is an ethnically diverse political union of several !Germanic, !Italic, !Slavic, and !Baltic polities comprising the Crown Lands of House Holzbrede-Metterich. Modern Hessaria-Vlodomeria came about in the waning years of the 19th century, following the Ausgleich of 1890. The ausgleich reorganised the former Hessarian Empire into a de jure political union between the Hessarian Empire and the Vlodomerian Realm. Since the 1970s, Hessaria-Vlodomeria has undertaken a policy of devolution, with the ultimate goal being Hessaria-Vlodomeria being fully federalised by 2020. Despite increasing devolution and allocation of political power to ethnic states, ethnic and religious tensions within the Dual Monarchy remain an issue and is expected to be the top issue to be tackled during the upcoming 2020 Ausgleich.
Preferred Map Location: TBD; Suggestions are welcome

Culture
What languages are spoken? Hessarian (Low Saxon dialect of German), Ruvian (Lithuanian), Polavian (Czech), and Vlodomerian (South Slavic conlang) are official languages. Selonian (Latvian), Alodalish (Luxembourgish), Swarian (Yiddish), Oscanian (Sicilian), and Trevlian (Slovak) are recognised minority languages.
What religions are practiced? !Christianity and !Judaism are the predominant faiths, with Romuva being a distant third.
Brief description of your nation’s culture and history: Hessaro-Vlodomerian culture is cosmopolitan by necessity and could be considered an extension of greater Hessarian (German) culture. Centuries of Hessarian rule have gradually eroded individual ethnic cultural identities, with modern identifiers being purely linguistic and religious base. The real cultural divides in the nation exist between urbanite and rural populations, and between the upper and lower classes. The urban population leans towards progressivism/left liberalism, with an emphasis on increasing social and political equality for “societal minorities” (i.e LGBT+ community and women). The rural population is characterised by cultural conservatism and economic liberalism, with populism intermittently sprinkled in. The divide between upper and lower class tends to follow the urban-rural split, albeit with the upper class not being populist.

History will be done once in the region since it’ll be easier to make it non-insular.
Government & Economy
What is the current political situation in your nation? The 2018 elections saw the National Action Party gain a majority in the Hessarian Landsmeet, Polavian Diet, Ruvian Seimas, and Vlodomerian Veche. This shock victory breaks 44 years of political dominance of the Dual Monarchy by the Democratic New Left. Staunch opponents to devolution and federalisation, the NAP victory signals a drastic change in the political landscape of the union and threatens the federalisation of the realm. Coalition infighting between the National Action Party, Blue Future, Patriots!, and Alternative Democrats could see the current government fall before the 2020 Ausgleich begins in February.
Brief description of your nation’s government: Hessaria-Vlodomeria is a political union of four polities comprising the Crown Lands of House Holzbrede-Metterich. These polities are the Hessarian Empire, United Princedoms of Vlodomeria, Kingdom of Ruvia and Selonia, and the Kingdom of Polavia. The four nations are considered co-equal in power, however, Hessaria is the primus inter pares due to high development and population. These four nations share a joint foreign affairs, defence, and finance ministries, with other ministries being divided between their respective states. Each nation maintains its own executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government.

A common ministerial council exists consisting of the four prime ministers, the heads of the foreign affairs, defence, and finance ministries, the deputies of the foreign affairs, defence, and finance ministries, and representatives of key domestic ministries. A second common council, consisting of 10 representatives from each state, meet separately to vote on matters discussed by the common ministerial council.
What is your nation’s primary industries? Electronics, steel and machinery, chemicals, shipbuilding, textiles
What are its main exports? Imports? Exports include motor vehicles, machinery, chemicals, computer and electronic products, electrical equipment, pharmaceuticals, metals, transport equipment, foodstuffs, textiles, rubber and plastic products. Imports include machinery, data processing equipment, vehicles, chemicals, oil and gas, metals, electric equipment, pharmaceuticals, foodstuffs, agricultural products.
Brief description of your nation’s economic situation: The Hessarian-Vlodomerian economy is a bog standard developed market social economy. Hessaria was and continues to be the economic life force for the Dual Monarchy due to being an early industrialiser and being the most populous of the member nations. Vlodomeria has a large agricultural and food industry and accounts for most of the union’s exports in those areas.

Military
What is the primary purpose of your armed forces? The Imperial and Royal Armed Forces’ primary missions are the protection and safeguarding of state borders, conducting land, sea, and air combat, and the defeat of enemy combatants, whether they be state actors or other.
What is your military like? The Imperial and Royal Armed Forces consists of three branches: the Common Army, Imperial and Royal Navy, and Imperial and Royal Air Service. General conscription is used for rank and file, with NCOs and officers being professionals. Conscription contracts vary between 9, 18, and 27 months. Equipment wise, relatively modern with some late Cold War era stuff here and there.
Brief description of your nation’s military’s capability: TBD based on location and neighbours (if any).

Diplomacy
What role do you see your nation fulfilling in the region? Fulfilling the role of a German state while saving everybody from Prussia.
Who are its friends and who are its rivals? TBD
Brief description of your nation’s diplomatic approach: Although foreign policy falls under a “joint” ministry, the individual concerns of the nations in the Dual Monarchy still need to be considered. These concerns sometimes directly conflict or outright contradict each other. Because of this, Hessaria-Vlodomeria is unable to throw any of whatever geopolitical clout it may have around. Ostensibly, the diplomatic corps of the Dual Monarchy would be working on maintaining the continental/global status quo, if for no other reason than to ensure no entanglements for when the ausgleich gets renegotiated.

If asked to reduce the power/scope of your nation, how would you do so? Less marysuing of ethnic relations. Economic recession to stagnate/decrease economic growth.
Let's clear something up here for the children. I am an adult, with an adult life. I have a job, which aside from being time consuming while I am actually -at- work, requires me to be on call when I am not. I do not have the time to sit and read through the thousands of pages of shit that some people post in the chat. I simply do not have the time. When I am not on call or at work I am also a Scout Leader, a volunteer youth worker, a community association secretary, and chair of a local role play association.

So you should feel really fucking lucky that I am prepared to slice out even minutes of my day to offer to deal with your problems. If you don't like the fact that I am sacrificing my free time for you then I think the problem here is with you and not the region.

Artemis Application
General Information
Full Nation Name: Lanestrian Commonwealth, also known as the Commonwealth of Greater Prydane, Boreray, Monacair and the Outer Islands.
Short Name: Lanestria
Population: 71,485,119
Brief synopsis of your nation: Lanestria is a unitary parliamentary theocratic republic, that consists of four "constiuent nations"; Greater Prydane, Monacair, Boreray and The Lesser Islands. Prior to 1641, the territory of modern day Lanestria was dominated by three Kingdoms, each closely intertwined by both familial links and alliances. In 1630, Queen Anne III of Prydane passed and was succeeded by her only heir, Princess Catherine II, who months before married Prince William of Boreray. While this secured a personal union with Boreray, it greatly undermined political stability, owing to William's autocratic tendancies and opposition to religious influence within the Prydanish Parliament. In 1631, Queen Catherine II died during childbirth, leaving King William as the only viable head of state. Upon his coronation, King William I announced he would "restore the luxury and great power of the throne to the throne", much to the concern of the Parliament. His reforms provoked a rapid response, with Lord Richard Howe-Proctor, the de-facto leader of the "Rectitants" secured the backing of Parliament in rejecting the King's planned reforms. In turn, King William marched with his personal guard into the Chamber of the Venerable and ordered MPs arrested, he was turned away and instead proclaimed Parliament, enemies of the crown. Taking up residence in the summer residance, north of the capital, King William and his army loyalists began amassing arms and troops, while Parliament vowed to resist and protect the "rights and liberties of all men."

Between 1632 and 1641, the islands of Lanestria were devastated by civil war, with the martial prowess of many parliamentarian commanders proving devastating against the royalist forces. As civil war raged, those with the parliamentary forces were gripped by a whirling religious fervor. Led by the "Rectitants", a religious movement within the Lanestrian Protestant Church, that saw sin and wickedness throughout society and a unified Lanestria as a Redeemer Nation. Aided by superior commanders, growing numbers and religious zeal, the royalists were defeated in 1641 and King William was beheaded by order of Parliament for "crimes against all good Lanestrians of all Islands." Within days of his execution, Parliament passed the Governance and Commonwealth Act, formally ending monarchy and establishing a republic. Over the next twenty years, the new Commonwealth was repeatedly charged with supressing royalist revolts, while also solidifying its control over all islands of Lanestria. The same time, the power of the Rectitants grew and expanded across society, leading the way in establishing the First Great Awakening. By the start of the 18th century, the top-down near autocratic nature of the government was steadily reformed toward empowering the Parliament, commonly nicknamed the "Houses of Saints and Men." These developments evolved toward the creation of "Congregationalist Democracy", in which churches would be the primary source of parliamentarians and candidates. While, the stability of the theocratic republic entrenched a deeply conservative and at times, fundamentalist religious society.

Today, Lanestria is often defined by "Parliament and God", with a strict and oppressive culture, further deepened by a conservative government and political worldview. Over four centuries since the monarchy was overthrown by Godly parliamentarians, many traditions and activities remain banned or restricted. While violations of Mortal and Godly Laws are harshly punished.

Preferred Map Location: Please see here

Culture
What languages are spoken?: Officially English, though Monacaran (Welsh), Borerayan (Scottish) and Vannin (Manx) are spoken at the local level among some communities.
What religions are practiced? Some variant of Anglicanism, though with influences and positions taken from the Puritan Movement.
Brief description of your nation’s culture and history: Centuries of Prydanish-dominance alongside centuries of Church-influence and religious focus has led to a significant decline in cultural idenitities and differences, many cultural traditions from the "Three Pillar-Peoples" (Prydanish, Monacaran and Borerayan) have been coopted by the overall Lanestrian culture, leading to a mixture and fusion. Cultural divides exist between various regions of Lanestria, with deeply conversvative and religious minded views being held in the rural regions and some cities, primarily the capital of Providence, the "Reverend Cities" of Salem, Absolution, Saint Stephen, Saint Boltoph and Highabott. Some cities such as Saint Dunstan, Warcester, Stoutmouth and Llangatehn are more cosmopolitan. While divergences over cosomopolitanism vs conservatism exist, overall much of Lanestria will seemingly be more traditionalist and religious minded compared to other nations, as such, near universal opposition to the LGBT community, women's rights and religious minorities very much exists.

Government & Economy
What is the current political situation in your nation? The most recent election in 2015 saw the return of the Party of Tradition and Faith (PTF) with a strong working majority under Minister-General James Caldwell. The PTF is a social-conservative party dedicated to maintaining the role of "God in Government" while supporting strong defence, education and adopting !one-nation tory politics. In opposition is the Democratic Unity Party (DUP), which is more liberal-conservative and supports the improvement of women's and minority rights. Other parties include the Traditional Worker's Party (TWP), a christian-democractic party more rooted with the religious working class and finally, the Free People's Party (FPP), a small party with significant support in the Region of the Outer Islands.
Brief description of your nation’s government: Lanestria is a unitary parliamentary republic, with power concentrated within the Houses of the Esteemed and Venerable. Its head of state is the Lord President, a position held for life, with mostly ceremonial powers, but with key executive powers, such as the right to appoint and dismiss the Minister-General, dissolve Parliament, being the commander-in-chief and the right to appoint and dismiss members of the House of the Esteemed (upper-house). The Lord President must be either an ordained minister of the Unified Church of Lanestria or a laypreacher, of utmost esteem and experience. The Lord-President is the successor to the Lord Protector, which was held by Lord Richard Howe-Proctor between 1641 and 1660. The head of government is the Minister-General, who heads the Lanestrian government, he must be a member of either house of Parliament and the leader of the largest political party.

The Lanestrian Parliament holds significant amounts of power. It's two houses, are the House of the Esteemed (upper-house), which is unelected, with members appointed by the Lord President - usually in recognition of contributions to the country and society, however, over 70% of members will be noted clergymen, others include former military officers who form the "Officer's Corner", business people noted for their "Pious and Godly dealings" and people involved with Church-aligned charity organisations. The House of the Esteemed amends legislation and can also veto bills deemed "unbecoming of Godly-Lanestria", this has enabled an institutionalised resistance toward liberal reforms. The lower-house is the House of the Venerable and is elected every five years by universal suffrage, with the voting age set at 21, while women are permitted to vote, only those with written permission by their 1) Father, 2) Husband and 3) local parish priest can run for office. Men, however, only require a good reference from their parish priest. The HoV is responsible for the budget, appointing and dismissing Regional Governors, authorising the deployment of military forces, declaring war and peace, signing international treaties among other things. The HoV can remove a sitting Minister-General and government through a vote of no-confidence.

Lanestria as a whole, though unitary does operate several devolved regions, with Greater Prydane devolved into four regions, Monacair, Boreray and the Outer Islands being their own individual regions. The heads of these regions are appointed by the House of the Venerable for five year terms, usually drawing candidates from those said regions. The levels of devolution are relatively small, with powers of infrastructure, education and social policy.

What is your nation’s primary industries? Financial services, steel and machinery, automobiles, locomotives, aircraft, shipbuilding and light manufacturing
What are its main exports? Imports? Exports: Financial goods, heavy machinery, industrial machinery, pharmaceuticals, armaments and light goods. Imports: Food, textiles, oil and gas, agricultural products, industrial chemicals, metals, rare earth elements, electronics and building materials.
Brief description of your nation’s economic situation: Lanestria is a developed market economy, with some government involvement. Much of its strengths lay in the high development of Greater Prydane and Monacair, while the current government is investing heavily in developing the poorer regions of Boreray and the Outer Islands. Issues such as poor infrastructure, lack of digitialisation and regional poverty persist and have been known cause political and social issues.

Military
What is the primary purpose of your armed forces? The Lanestrian Commonwealth Forces primary duties are to protect and safeguard the territorial integrity of the nation, conducting land, sea, and air combat. Protecting and safeguarding Lanestria's extra-territorial interests and confronting enemies foreign and domestic. The Domestic Security Operations Command (D-SOC) is a smaller and fifth branch that is dedicated to combatting separatist or nationalist elements in Lanestria.
What is your military like? The LCF is comprised of the Commonwealth Land Forces, Commonwealth Navy, Commonwealth Air Forces, Marine Operations Command and the Domestic Security Operations Command. In total it has 486,000 active personnel and 300,000 reservists and operates national service for males aged between 18-25, who serve for three years.
Brief description of your nation’s military’s capability: The primary focus of the LCF remains the Commonwealth Navy, which while being the second largest in personnel boasts some strong capabilities, including the operation of two nuclear-powered aircraft carriers. The CLF an MOC are developed to work in tandemn with the Navy in deploying and projecting Lanestrian power beyond its local waters. With the strategic aims of the LCF being to protect Lanestrian interests across the globe, Lanestria has an interest in maintaining its blue-water capabilities. It may have interests on the !European contitent but this will depend on neighbours.

Diplomacy
What role do you see your nation fulfilling in the region?: The role of Britain, though as dystopian and Cromwellian that it is. This role could also be seen as that of a "wildcard", owing to its unique theocratic nature, it is neither firmly on the side of democracies, monarchies or others, nor set against them. The only certifiable role would be one of rabid anti-communism and anti-secularism.
Who are its friends and who are its rivals? TBD.
Brief description of your nation’s diplomatic approach: Foreign policy is dealt through the Foreign and External Office, though policy is also defined by the National Office for the Propagation of the Gospel, a superministry that is tasked with ensuring piety and virtue runs through all government business. This unique situation where foreign policy is determined by two separate government offices has ensured that very little pragmatism or evolution of positions can take place, while opposition to communism, secularism and those who would undermine Lanestrian interests is entrenched and ossified. One overarching trait of Lanestrian foreign policy is the slogan, "Lanestria First, God Always."

Artemis Application
General Information
Full Nation Name: The Empire of Masovya
Short Name: Masovya
Population: 87,000,000
Brief synopsis of your nation:

Masovyais, on paper, a constitutional monarchy that considers itself the continuation of the Votyalic monarchy following the revolution in 1935. The empire relied heavily on an archaic system of serfdom for it's survival, and while other monarchist countries moved on to embrace democracy or otherwise, the country was slow to adapt to the advancement the industrial revolution was allowing. This resulted in the 1935 revolution that for most of the empire, including most of modern-day Masovya, resulted in the total ousting of imperial rule. The aftermath, which included the Imperial Army securing the royal family's winter residence of Masiligrad as the future capital of Masovya, saw the empire split in three, with Masovya remaining as a monarchist country.

In the modern day Masovya is economically unstable, while it's adapted to the modern age suitably enough to survive, it's paranoia toward it's two Votyalic neighbours and a culture of isolationism means that the country outside of the elitist cities are still, in many ways, old fashioned and backwards. The elite of the country, typically members of noble households that fled to Masiligrad with the Imperial Family, continually call for efforts to retake old territories and restore their old seats to them. Historians correctly refer it to 'living in a bubble' - the elite often have a hard time imagining why the population would be unhappy with the situation, and often consider the average worker as a commodity, like a beast of burden or a piece of furniture. On the other hand, the workers of the country have a semi-socialist system which feeds, clothes, and provides services such as healthcare to them, but corruption is incredibly common and results in food shortages. Increasing calls for a new revolution begin to grip the country, calls that to the elitists are muted by that aforementioned 'glass bubble'.

Culture
What languages are spoken?

Votyalian is the primary language spoken, although small enclaves of other languages would exist.

What religions are practiced?

While it is still being discussed region-wide, I suspect it'll be adopting the region's form of Russian Orthodoxy, or whatever is created in it's place.

Brief description of your nation’s culture and history:

Masovya, being Votyalic, shares much of it's culture with it's two neighbours - A major emphasis on communities and the difficulties that can arise when reaching some places in the country means that many regions in the country developed independently from one another and are closed-off to outsiders while those inside the communities are incredibly close, resulting in birthday parties and weddings involving entire communities. This tight-knit community-based culture can often be a roadblock for progress, resulting in some villages being significantly more backwards technologically or socially than others, it does mean that communities band together in the event of an emergency. Another problem facing the country is that communities grow up around industries, such as coal mining or around fishing or farming areas, meaning that technology that could outdate or render their industry obsolete is often rejected from the area, meaning that while international laws calling for a slowing of coal mining may be passed, Masovya would still have a booming coal industry. The government subtly helping the industry continue, of course, doesn't help the problem.

The instability of the 1935 revolution in the country only levelled out in the late 1970s as the monarchy, which signed a constitution to appease it's worker-classes, slipped back to it's old ways while the population slowly grew up into the modern era. With the government relying entirely on an elitist group that live in luxury and overconsumption, the needs of the many can sometimes be overlooked or ignored. The Masovyan Parliament, which was created in the constitution, has little power aside from ensuring that the population work as normal and try to govern them as best they can. This means that, economically, the country often finds itself very unstable as the overspending of the luxurious few leads to shortages for the many.

Government & Economy
What is the current political situation in your nation?

The leadership of the country, regardless of what is on paper, is entirely focused on the Emperor and his imperial family that assist him with the running of the country. The parliament, established by the constitution, holds no real power aside from the day-to-day operation of the population and to carry out orders given by the Emperor. The Emperor lives entirely within his own glass bubble, focusing on a lavish lifestyle at the cost of losing a real understanding on his nation. As such, he has become completely separated from his population to a point where a new revolution is becoming closer to a reality.

Brief description of your nation’s government:

The political power in the country, on paper, resides with the Masovyan Parliament and the Emperor jointly as they cooperate to embetter the lives of their people. In reality the power resides almost entirely with the Emperor, who lives in luxurious splendor often ignorant of the welfare of his state. His total grip on power means that he can override the Parliament at any time or make decisions without any input from them. External observers to the nation would be able to clearly see how fragile the system is - The ignored population has growing murmurs of a new revolution and the Emperor is blind to it, mostly through disbelief that it could happen again after the 1935 revolution. The nation is divided into General-Governates, which is led by a joint military/civilian administration on behalf of the Emperor.

What is your nation’s primary industries?

Mineral mining and refinement, fossil fuel extraction, timber growth and harvest.

What are its main exports? Imports?

Main exports will be mineral productions, metals, chemical products and wood products.

Main imports will be food, vehicles, pharmaceuticals and textiles.

Brief description of your nation’s economic situation:

While the country has some solid financial security in gold deposits either stolen during the 1935 revolution is secured since, the political positioning of the country means that the economic stability will vary depending on the Emperor's wiles. Wealth of the country is focused largely in the upper classes of the country, with a 'middle-class' making up most of the city or immediate outskirt living populations that don't struggle for financial security but are not 'well-off'. Corruption is rife in the country outside the cities.

Military
What is the primary purpose of your armed forces?

The military's primary purpose is to defend against it's two Votyalic neighbours who it sees as it's primary adversaries.

What is your military like?

The military is broken up into two major components; The Imperial Army and the Imperial Navy, both of which have numerous sub-branches such as the Imperial Army Air Force and the Navy Infantry. The military is fed through conscription to maintain a high level of manpower in the face of it's two neighbouring adversaries and between the two the Army has significantly more funding and manpower assigned to it, with the Navy having a few frigate squadrons meant for the protection of trade routes for the continuation of sea-going commerce in a war.

Conscripts will often find themselves in units that derive entirely from their local community, therefore it is usually treated like an extension of that community - A regiment from Usaragensk, for example, has the town banner as it's flag and have many customs taken from that small city. Conscription lasted for three years, although it could be extended in an emergency, and conscripts of value were often heavily persuaded to remain in the military following the completion of their service. Middle and upper class recruits who join willingly are usually kept in good conditions, are rapidly promoted and given immense training and educations to install them as senior enlisted or officers within the military. Given the military's influence over daily life, many lower-class conscripts will find ways to improve their situations back home through the military.

Brief description of your nation’s military’s capability:

The primarily ground-based military has been designed for the capability to rapidly move into pre-established positions inside of Masovya to defend against an expected rapid invasion by either Votyalia or Kolchakska. It's primary force is the army, which is fed by conscription and by a professional middle and upper class that holds non-commissioned and commissioned posts. the Army Air Force, while angled toward the interception of aircraft inside Masovya, has been given the aircraft needed to theoretically spear into a country for anti-air duties ahead of bombing campaigns should the army manage to counter-invade.

Diplomacy
What role do you see your nation fulfilling in the region?

I've designed Masovya to be inherently unstable and an attractive place for intrigue-based roleplays to explore as it evolves through time.

Who are its friends and who are its rivals?

Other monarchies or people inherently opposed to either Votyalia or Kolchakska would find a friend in Masovya, while it views those two nations as it's primary rivals and considers them as break-aways of the Votyalian Empire, which it considers to be the only 'true' continuation of.

Brief description of your nation’s diplomatic approach:

Masovya would try to be as opportunistic as it can, trying to secure chances to advance itself in the eyes of those it views can help it's situation in relation to it's rivalry with Votyalia and Kolchakska.

Artemis Application

General Information

Full Nation Name: The Federation of Gedrosia (Koinón can also be translated "commonwealth" or "league")
Short Name: Gedrosia
Population: Around 40 million
Brief synopsis of your nation:

Gedrosia is an !Indo-!Greek syncretic country - the history of how the !Greeks landed in the !Indian cultural sphere will be worked out with the respective players. It is a federal republic governed primarily through direct democracy, with sortition and referendums being the main instruments of governance, and one year the standard term of office. Its culture has been impacted by both bicultural syncretism and certain waves of classical revivalism, which have produced the modernised Athenian democracy and robustly polytheistic popular culture it is known for. It has a certain isolationist streak due to its history and identity.

Preferred Map Location: That'll depend on where the !Greek and !Indian zones are, really.

Culture

What languages are spoken? !Greek and !Sanskrit, primarily. Other minority languages will be worked out based on neighbours and regional lore. There's good odds of !Scythians/!Saka and !Thracians being present.
What religions are practiced? !Greek polytheism and !Buddhism primarily. There's a slot open for !Hinduism if necessary, and other ethnic religions based on demographics.
Brief description of your nation’s culture and history:

Gedrosian culture is fundamentally defined by the !Greco-!Indian syncretism. Its society is broadly collectivist, and strongly informal due to its egalitarian heritage. Society is broadly progressive with some elements of conservatism (manifesting mainly in a kind of prickly isolationist streak that sometimes tinges into xenophobia). There is a certain urban-rural tension present.

The public sphere is strongly secular, especially legally, but that secularism is also wielded as a club to suppress proselytism, monotheistic religions, and other religions that don't fit with Gedrosian society. The recurring periods of classical revivalism have resulted not in trying to pull Gedrosia back to some golden age past, but instead to keep classical concepts and mythology relevant, and dragged kicking and screaming into modernity if need be. The result is that sometimes Gedrosians openly use the seemingly jarring or unsavoury elements of tradition as a point of pride ("Yeah, our pantheon is headed by a serial rapist, but everybody else keeps him in line!", sort of.)

In line with the informality, Gedrosia does not have family names per se. People usually have one given name, and they are referred to by a patronym/matronym and hometown if disambiguation is necessary ("Demosthenes, son of Phaedra, of Alexandria Eschate"). The !Indians preface the given name with the parent or parents' initial ("D. Anjali").

Sadly much of the history is in flux. For what it's worth, what I had so far went something like this:
* !Alexander the Great makes it to !India. An !Indo-Greek Kingdom is created.
* Perhaps the Kingdom was initially larger and then had its territory whittled down to current size through wars with !Indian states.
* During a period of crisis, a first wave of classical/ancient revivalism occurs, coinciding with a revolution that overthrows the monarchy. Gedrosia then embarks on its centuries-long effort to revive Athenian democracy.
* If there is a !christianity or monotheistic religions like that in Artemis, Gedrosia gains a tendency to fanatically oppose incursions from proselytisers and cling to traditional polytheism.
* Much of the history will be preoccupied with the typical struggles between people power and oligarchy, especially in the context of a large country rather than a city-state.
* Some rebellions/revolutions can break out at certain points (1789, 1848) in reaction to encroachment on sortition/direct democracy.
* Politics also shapes the economy: Gedrosia avoids becoming a feudal society, and its economy evolves along non-market lines (I'll probably draw from the pre-market societies described in The Great Transformation).
* Wars may happen based on border disputes and religion. One of those wars may have caused an internal revolt/civil war that ended with the abolition of the standing army and a move towards a Swiss-style national militia.
* Industrial Revolution probably handled somewhat better than the regional average, at the cost of its pace being slowed down.
* The early 1900s should see a definite democratic socialist shift in the economy.
* I could work in a conflict between libertarian and authoritarian socialists/communists here, ending in the victory of the libertarian left. However, the guild socialism system constructed during this period does later become corrupt and labour aristocracy-like, leading to an anarcho-syndicalist revolt in the 1960s.
* The growth of communication technology and IT is harnessed to massively improve direct democracy, and transition more towards decentralised cybernetic planning. Some representative democracy-like institutions set up as a concession to the logistics of sortitioning a whole country can be either weakened further, reformed into advisory chambers, or simply phased out/abolished.

Government & Economy

What is the current political situation in your nation?

Gedrosia is about as stable as a country that's spent centuries working out how to govern itself by direct democracy can get. The political spectrum is broadly represented, and politics and society have been notably influenced by anarchism. As a result of commitment to direct democracy, laws enforcing compulsory voting are in place and heavily enforced; these also extend to attending assembly meetings. (Constitutional jury duty, I guess?)

Gedrosian society tends to minimise elections and use sortition as its first solution, since sortition is seen as democratic while elections are oligarchic.

Brief deion of your nation’s government:

Each community, whether urban or rural, holds a popular assembly named the ekklesia. Anyone can attend ekklesia meetings, speak, and make proposals. Voting is done by simple majority, usually by show of hands. The ekklesia functions as a legislature – it votes on law proposals, decrees, and treaties, and elects certain magistrates.

The work of the ekklesia is overseen by the boule, chosen by lot from among volunteers. The boule functions as an executive – it coordinates the activities of the various administrative agencies, prepares decree or law proposals for the ekklesia to discuss, and executes the decisions of the ekklesia.

In terms of administrative units, Gedrosia is divided into districts (demos/máṇḍala), which are in turn confederated into provinces (dioikesis/pradeśa). At the federal level, delegative democracy is used: each province selects a number of delegates to the synedrion, the federal council. Synedrion delegates are subject to imperative and instant recall from their district and province.

The synedrion mainly serves in a coordinating role. It has the right to propose laws, which are subject to referendum. It also selects the council of archontes, which serves as a federal executive. Each archon heads a federal ministry, and serves a term of one year. Archontes have no executive power, and only enforce the law as written and interpreted by the judiciary.

Gedrosia uses a civil law system. Each district has a popular court, the heliaia. Jury service is paid, and jurors are selected by lot. Cases are decided by a simple majority vote. The Areios Pagos serves as the federal supreme court, chosen by sortition with 2 jurors from each province. The Areios Pagos may be asked by an ekklesia, boule, or synedrion to review a law or decree to ensure it is constitutional.

Prisons are absent, and the death penalty is illegal. The main sentences are fines, probation, a form of parole, ostracism (usually accompanied by exile), and atimia. The latter can mean disenfranchisement and suspension of citizen rights, or in the worst case outlawry.

What is your nation’s primary industries? Services, manufacturing and mining, shipping and shipbuilding, hydroelectricity, light industries. If climate allows, I might try to have a rubber industry.
What are its main exports? Imports?

Exports: Aluminium, electrical and electronic equipment, textiles, plastics, pharmaceuticals, foodstuffs, iron and steel products, etc.
Imports: Electrical and electronic equipment, pharmaceuticals, machinery, plastics, car parts, etc.

Brief description of your nation’s economic situation:

Gedrosia is an example of the Kerala model: although its GDP per capita lags behind other nations, its social indicators and standard of living are comparable to a developed country, as a result of effective public services and pervasive redistribution mechanisms.

The economy is influenced by politics, and is decentralised with some anarcho-syndicalist and guild socialist elements. Cooperatives dominate the private sector. The means of production and national resources are under public ownership. Unions are powerful, and the unionisation rate is 100%. Market mechanisms exist in a largely non-capitalist manner, and economic planning is emphasised.

Gedrosia's isolationist tendencies would be the main hamper on the economy. The drachma is non-convertible, and a salient issue is whether the economy should aim for autarky or international trade. Currently, the forces of autarky have had the greater influence for longer. However, Gedrosia's political history does give it an openness towards experimentation and applying its intellectual reserves to megaprojects, particularly in the service of environmentalism.

Military

What is the primary purpose of your armed forces? Defense of Gedrosia and that's basically it.
What is your military like? It's more of an anarchist militia than a professional military. The culture is very anarchistic and solidarity-oriented, with emphasis on revolutionary discipline and election of commanders. It's divided into three branches: land army, navy, and air force. It doesn't really possess offensive capability, as its strategy and armament is focused on defending Gedrosia.
Brief description of your nation’s military’s capability: Gedrosia mostly just focuses on defending itself and doesn't really bother with anything beyond that. I intend for its armed forces to be adequate to the task and nothing more than that. (Full disclosure: military stuff isn't something I enjoy worldbuilding.)

Diplomacy

What role do you see your nation fulfilling in the region? Weird hermit republic-like reputation. Some degree of soft power from culture. Probably the most anarchism-inclined nation in Artemis. Possible aggravating factor in monotheism-polytheism religious conflicts, depending how regional lore goes. Handy bogeyman for various ideologies/political groups, though I imagine mostly for the right-wing. Kind of an irritant in a !United Nations. I guess some cross between Bhutan, Switzerland, and sakoku-era Japan?
Who are its friends and who are its rivals? Very likely friends with !India and !Greece, with the !Greece relationship being slightly complicated depending on how mutual lore works out. It likely doesn't have good relations with very monotheistic religious countries (unlikely to get along well with Deseret for instance), or authoritarian ones.
Brief description of your nation’s diplomatic approach: Cautious openness towards international cooperation, but likely perceived as flaky and stubborn by the rest of the world. Sometimes a weakness for digging in over symbolic positions that play well at home but exasperate other countries. Supportive of left radicals and anarchists and revolutionaries, but too inward-focused to help them a lot of the time.

Out Of Character Information

What are your former/current regions? Tyran, Teremara.
What are your former/current nations? Gylias, Akashi, Lacetanya.
How did you hear about Artemis? From a region-mate who's also in Ajax.
If asked to reduce the power/scope of your nation, how would you do so? I imagine it's already pretty de-powered, but I'd probably reduce the population, complicate the economy a bit, and make the direct democracy more bumpy.

Artemis Application
General Information
Full Nation Name: The Theocratic Republic of Ulvena
Short Name: Ulvena
Population: 95 million
Brief synopsis of your nation: A classical Republic based on Abrahamic principles. It isn't rights that determine how people are treated. It's religious and spiritual dignity. With that comes three branches of government: Chancellory, Senate, and Clerical. The Chancellory consists of the High Chancellor and the Chancellors of the various Ministries. The Senate exists to both elect the High Chancellor for periods of 7 years with no term limits. The Clerical Assembly exists to interpret scripture and ensure magnanimous cooperation between the Abrahamic faiths. The people of Ulvena exist in a synthesis of high technology and agrarianism with a high degree of local communal involvement. It's not uncommon to find people who do not concern themselves with the affairs of the capital.

Ulvena remains non-interventionist, although, the past glories as a united army of faith still exist in myth and legend, resulting in a very strong martial tradition. The people are quite wary of immigrants but are very quick to encourage assimilation in order to remove the status of "immigrant." Citizenship is seen as a privilege, not a right, in that regard. Hierarchy reigns supreme. While children and adults alike are encouraged to ascend up the hierarchy via means of scholarship, martial prowess, or as an entrepreneur, they are also expected to listen to and respect their betters.
Preferred Map Location: No preference except that the area is temperate and relatively large.

Culture
What languages are spoken? Ulvenan is the official language (a mix of English and Korean). It is very common for people to know Hebrew, classical Arabic, or Greek based on their religion.
What religions are practiced? The only officially recognized religions are Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. A small minority of agnostics and other faiths exist, though are not recognized and not afforded any rights specific to the three Abrahamic faiths. 35% Christian, 62% Islam, 2% Jewish.
Brief description of your nation’s culture and history: Ulvena historically existed as three separate tribes which went on to form Kingdoms. Two of those Kingdoms went on to embrace Islam as their guiding faith but remained fiercely independent, as did the third which embraced Christianity. Due to invaders from surrounding regions and conflict between the Kingdoms, the three Kingdoms formed a temporary alliance that lasted fifty years. During the fifty year period, a "first amongst equals" system was devised in which the first Great Unifier, Chu, was chosen as a mediator to deal with inter-kingdom conflict. Due to a series of successful trade alliances and political maneuvering, the three Kingdoms went on to form a permanent regional alliance which later was solidified as a single Ulvenan Empire in which the Emperor was chosen by the three Kings (usually a noble with holdings in border regions that showed martial prowess). The Empire greatly reshaped the culture of Ulvena through ensuring the faiths remain true to their theology while also remaining cooperative and to export the Abrahamic faiths through war or trade. During their first Industrial Revolution, the Empire had gone through extreme socioeconomic turmoil as the rapid industrialization destabilized both the nobility and fostered the rise of liberalism and socialism.

In order to placate the working class as well as return to a spiritual lifestyle, the nobility peaceably abdicated their titles (while keeping their holdings) and provided universal access to certain services which were either exclusively for nobility or too expensive for the common man. In exchange, the working classes were expected to remain on their ancestral lands and remain subservient to both their chosen faith and their representatives in government. This exchange, known as the Divine Compromise, laid the groundwork of current Ulvena. The people remain very proud of their martial tradition while their faith has only strengthened following the second Industrial Revolution and the Technological Golden Age of Ulvena, to which they believe God had shown divine providence to their nation. They remain wary of outsiders who do not assimilate due to histories of conflict and the teachings of the faith to be distrustful of the polytheists and nonbelievers. However, with the rise of high technology and the effects on the environment and their own lives, they've embraced science as a tool for understanding God's Creation and to seek to preserve it to the best of their ability.

The people are very traditional and hold fast to their ways outside of the cities. The cities and surrounding regions, however, tend to be more liberal and seek to interpret scripture "in accordance with the times." This divide, as stark as it may seem, is largely superficial, however, as even the liberals wish to see progress implemented slowly. Gender roles are strict and it is seen as a divine duty to fulfill one's purpose in life both in terms of gender and in terms of one's talents. People tend to be compassionate to fellow Ulvenans and see charity as a form of piety, which is expected of all people. Communities are very closely knit and similarly, environmentalism is praised as a form of charity. Even in cities, it is expected that people grow rooftop gardens and sell them on the market or for their own family's consumption. Land ownership is seen as the highest calling of any Ulvenan, whether it be large farmlands or a simple house. City life is seen as backwards for most Ulvenans, even those living in cities. Thus, it is common to see cities devoid of most activity upon the end of a business day as only those who run businesses and their employees live in cities. Markets thus tend to be very local and towns are unique in their culture compared to other towns, though remain unified through a network of public transit and shared faith.

Government & Economy
What is the current political situation in your nation? The most recent High Chancellor, Cal, has proven to be divisive amongst the Senate. The Traditionalist Faction sees him to be very trustworthy and will strengthen their already strong position while the Urban and Progressive Factions fear his lack of experience, young age, and his reliance on the Traditionalists as a base of power. The common folk do not care either way as long as their farms or factories are well maintained. However, there exists fears that the High Chancellor may abolish the Assembly of the Peoples in the Clerical Assembly due to shifting demographic changes, further dividing all factions amongst their own lines.

Brief description of your nation’s government: Ulvena is a representative Republic in which the Senate consists of 500 Senators spread across ten provinces. All Senators serve ten year terms upon which cannot be reelected. The Senators are required to be native born residents of the province AND have lived longer than ten years in the district their represent. Senators are chosen with a simple majority vote in the district they run in and are expected to uphold the wishes of all residents in the district. While in the past, Senators were expected to stay in the district they represent (with the exception of seasonal Senate meetings), this has now changed with the advent of instant telecommunication and is now optional. The Senate chooses the High Chancellor, who is usually a prominent religious or military figure (although it is not uncommon to choose those who are simply accomplished in a field the Senate views as honorable). While political parties are banned in Ulvena, factions exist instead. Unofficial conglomerations of Senators who usually have a shared agenda. The Senate exists also to pass laws both within their own province and for the nation as a whole. In the event of a tie, it is expected the High Chancellor cast the tiebreaker vote. In provincial lawmaking, a tie signals that the law must go into referendum.

The High Chancellor, upon a simple majority election, serves 5 year terms but can be reelected until death. The High Chancellor may appoint one of the Senators or a religious leader as their Chancellory Advisor, who serves similar to that of a Prime Minister or Vice President. If married, the spouse of the High Chancellor exists as the Lady of Ulvena, who serves as a second Chancellory Advisor with equal power (though this can be declined by the spouse or overridden with a 2/3 majority in the Senate). The High Chancellor then either appoints or continues the tenure of the different Ministries, which act as executive offices that manage the nation. Lower Ministries usually exist as a subsidiary of Higher Ministries and the Chancellor of that Higher Ministry appoints lower Chancellors.

The Clerical Assembly is divided between the Assembly of the People and the Assembly of the Churches. The Assembly of the People is chosen only by landowning families amongst members of their provincial clergymen with a supermajority vote (assuming nobody gets supermajority, the top two run until supermajority is achieved). The Assembly of the Churches are chosen by the three Abrahamic faiths and exist such that no one religion receives more seats than the other. The Clerical Assembly is a lifetime appointment, although it is traditional to abdicate upon reaching Age 65. They exist to ensure the Senate and High Chancellor are following scripture, the Treatise (the equivalent of the Constitution), and the Divine Compromise in that order. Any matters of legality may reach them if significant enough. Conflicts between scripture are seen as natural and result in deferment to the Treatise or Divine Compromise to ensure no one Abrahamic faith controls the nation.
What is your nation’s primary industries? Agriculture, electronics, ships, weaponry, heavy and light manufacturing
What are its main exports? Imports? Biggest export is food, followed by electronics and manufactured goods. Oil, raw minerals, and exotic foods are the biggest imports.
Brief description of your nation’s economic situation: Ulvena is a regulated market economy with low booms and low busts. Usury is prohibited and monopolies are broken up regularly, resulting in slow but sustained growth. As of 2012 onwards, Ulvena has seen a surge of electronic innovations resulting in a high net export. But low crop yields tend to result in a poorer economy.

Military
What is the primary purpose of your armed forces? To defend Ulvena and preserve Ulvenan culture and tradition by conducting land, sea, air, and cyberspace operations. The military also exists as a police force on the reserve side and it is expected of Ulvenan men to serve for a limited period in the reserves if able.
What is your military like? The Ulvenan Armed Forces (UAF) consists of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Special Forces, Cyber Forces, and reserves of all except special forces. There exist 450,000 Active personnel and 3.5 million reserves. The reserves act as a provincial police force, however, and are only activated in cases of invasion or in cases of natural disaster at the behest of the Provincial Governor or a Senate majority from the province. While there is a mandatory draft, it has never been used before.
Brief description of your nation’s military’s capability: The Ulvenan Army is seen as the pinnacle of martial prowess and is the strongest branch of the military. All other branches exist to serve the Army and its training is very rigorous. The Air Force, due to developments in electronics however, is second to the Army and boasts a small but very technologically advanced fleet of aircraft, including stealth bombers and sophisticated anti-air capabilities. A heavy focus on defense means deployment is slow outside of its borders but highly fortified within. The Ulvenan Cyber Forces exist to combat both cyberterrorism and cyber crime activities within Ulvena's borders and from foreign attack. The small but elusive Special Forces exist as both an intelligence agency and foreign operations unit, capable of rapid deployment and equipped with all the necessary tools to assist allied nations with precise, methodological strikes.

Diplomacy
What role do you see your nation fulfilling in the region? As a traditionalist, environmentalist nation that may not innovate quickly but can rapidly improve existing innovations. Sort of an Israel/South Korea/Japan role. For RP, it can exist as a middle power that remains loyal to allied nations and acts as a headache for opposing nations but does not intervene militarily beyond special forces and cyber aid.
Who are its friends and who are its rivals? Communist and socialist nations are instantly seen as enemies, including nations that are seen as "godless." Traditionalist or monarchist nations are trusted.
Brief description of your nation’s diplomatic approach: Act to preserve Ulvenan independence and ensure food and electronic export, as well as ensure scientific and spiritual dominance. Ulvena will want new technology (provided it's not banned such as AI, full automation, or non-medical applications of genetic engineering) to improve and expand upon.

If asked to reduce the power/scope of your nation, how would you do so? A sectarian conflict between the Islamic and Christian factions or a political conflict between the traditionalists and liberals is bound to happen given some foreign influence or just as time progresses. Usually the former can be resolved but the balance can easily be destabilized.

Artemis Application
General Information
Full Nation Name: Sovascarian Authority (Authoritatea Sovascariană)
Short Name: Sovascaria
Population: 58,260,921
Brief synopsis of your nation: A left-wing militarized oligarchy based ostensibly on a domestic form of libertarian socialism, famous for its domineering take on foreign affairs and its successful space program.
Preferred Map Location: Image

Culture
What languages are spoken? Sovascarian/Scarian (Not!Romanian, particularly Transylvanian Romanian with Thracian Influences), minorities of Hessarians and Not!Macedonians.
What religions are practiced? Not!Orthodoxy and Not!Judaism are the most popular religions, however, a state reverence of a universal absolute, similar to Spinozizim, has been enforced since the 1890s and is the nation's primary "religion", in the loosest term of the word.
Brief description of your nation’s culture and history: Though originally a powerful monarchy during the time of the Renaissance increased revolutionary fervor combined with a series of economic blunders on the part of the King sent Sovascaria into a brutal and protracted revolution in 1811, and chaos raged in various forms throughout the country until 1880, when the nation's peace-desiring left-wing idealogues finally put away their differences and consolidated the previously-scattered elements of the Sovascarian revolution, crushing resurgent monarchists and establishing the Sovascarian Revolutionary Authority. Taking notes from left-wing ideologies which had been gaining traction at the time, Sovascaria nevertheless maintained its guarantees of personal liberty, forming an esoteric hybrid system in which the government and its corresponding bureaucracy served as a meritocracy, but elements of free speech and expression were preserved, sometimes to a radical extent.

Since the reformation of the Revolutionary Authority amid a constitutional crisis in 1957 into the current Sovascarian Authority, the government has existed largely in a push-and-pull environment with the forces of the people, which include organized worker cooperatives, business PACs, and even religious groups. However, from the 1990s onwards, Sovascaria has managed to placate all of its disparaged forces through the introduction of a democratic legislature and low-grade capitalist reforms, which nevertheless still serve the troika at the head of the nation. In the 21st Century, Sovascaria struggles to balance its modernizing democratic, capitalist, and cosmopolitan forces with its more interventionist and idealist leftists, who yearn for global revolution and dismantling of global business interests.

Government & Economy
What is the current political situation in your nation? Sovascaria is currently headed by a politically independent troika of Rasvan Voicu, Silviu Gilca, and Sofia Fieraru, all of which are considered to be interventionists bent against the spread of both powerful monarchies and radical forms of dictatorship, right-wing or otherwise.
Brief description of your nation’s government: A semi-democratic oligarchy headed by a three-person council known as the Revolutionary Council, which shares power with the democratically-elected House of Citizens, a unicameral legislature.
What is your nation’s primary industries? Mining, Space Exploration/Exploitation, Vehicles, Optical and Medical devices, Mid-range electronics, Weapons, and heavy Chemicals.
What are its main exports? Imports?
[*]Exports: Rare Earth Metals, including Uranium and radioactive isotopes. Vehicles for many applications, ranging from sedans, to airliners, to military vehicles. Weapons. Processed chemicals and pharmaceuticals, including some of the world's most complex vaccines and sophisticated chemical medical treatments. Scopes, telescopes, glasses, lenses, spectrometers, microscopes, and other important glass-based devices are also exported.
[*]Imports: Integrated circuits/microassemblies, exotic foods, lumber, clean water, services (including cell phone service and internet providers)
Brief description of your nation’s economic situation: At a crossroads between an industrial and service economy, Sovascaria can hold its own, though where it shines in energy production, it struggles in the procurement of adequate high-quality goods, particularly consumables such as food, water, furniture, and others. The nation suffers from urban overpopulation, chronic deforestation, and a shortage of clean water, though recent government initiatives wish to alleviate all of these concerns.
Military
What is the primary purpose of your armed forces? Though originally a purely and consitutionally-mandated defensive force, the Sovascarian Authority Armed Forces (FAAS; Forțele Armate al Autoritatea Sovascariană) has, since the government's reformation in 1957, taken on an interventionist and militaristic set of objectives, aiming to set up bases across the world for force projection as a deterrent, or for a variety of political reasons stooped in Sovascarian history and ideology. Often derided as a "wannabe world-police", the Sovascarian military often seeks military coalitions to intervene in humanitarian crises, insurgencies, and resource-rich areas that the Revolutionary Council would prefer to be in a Sovascarian sphere of influence.
What is your military like? A medium-sized force of conscripts, the Sovascarian military is partially outdated from a gear perspective especially as the third decade of the 21st century begins, however, they are well-trained for conscripts and what they lack in equipment, they can typically make up for in numbers; Currently hovering at roughly 250,000 active service members and with swathes more reserves, the Sovasciarian military hasn't quite yet garnered international force projection, but its geopolitical objectives mandate that it try by 2020.
Brief description of your nation’s military’s capability: A regional power yearning to be a superpower, the Sovascairian military is typically trumped by any professional force; overall, the nation is powerful in numbers and certain specialized equipment, but morale is easy to break due to the moral questionability of the nation's interventionist policy, and the military is not well-equipped to deal with insurgencies or asymmetric warfare, having yet to fight in such a conflict.

Diplomacy
What role do you see your nation fulfilling in the region? I want Sovascaria to serve as a sort of sleeping giant, a place for political machinations and social paradigm shifts to occur internally while its external interventions are largely confined to CIA-SAD like operations, with intervention as a powerful but unpopular last resort.
Who are its friends and who are its rivals? Sovascaria is actively hostile towards nations with powerful absolute monarchs and has taken a "holier-than-thou" approach to nations committing human rights violations and upholding strongmen; many in the government are revolutionary idealists that would be tentatively friendly with democratic and alt-socialist nations.
Brief description of your nation’s diplomatic approach: "Speak softly and carry a big stick"; Sovascaria's military gives it the ability to leverage internationally, which it does often, though, in recent times, an actual war or intervention would spell disaster for the morale and integrity of the nation, and as such, the Revolutionary Council has abstained from direct military intervention, instead preferring clandestine intelligence-based methods and special missions while the external projection of military might remains while it focuses on rectifying long-standing domestic issues.

If asked to reduce the power/scope of your nation, how would you do so? Halve the military and increase the level of pesky/inefficient bureaucracy. Keep in mind the whole concept of Sovascaria is still a WIP and many aspects of the nation, especially in regards to its military power, are subject to change and evolve as time goes on.

General Information
Full Nation Name: 西国商会 (Xīguó Shānghuì), Western State Chamber of Commerce
Short Name: Monyan (Shanghui, Seobugugga,Hueca Cihuatlampatlalli)
Population: 20 million
Brief synopsis of your nation:

In ancient times, Xiguo was a large highly centralized state on the western coast of Irathava which was historically governed by foriegn dynasties. Local warlords from the Irathavan interior were often promoted to the status of Marquis to control the rebellious locals, which has resulted in the modern multipolar state between the coastal city of Mucheng (木城) and the interior, former aristocracy based at Youzhen (优镇). During the Era of Great Compromise, the Mucheng faction, under the leadership of Zufu Jiang (Grandfather Jiang), rose up in rebellion against the reigning dynasty. According to Compromise theorists, however, the Zufu Jiang rebellion was a racial or regionalist one and thus lacked legitimacy. The Jiang movement was able to temporarily gain control of Mucheng, but was unable to gain international recognition. Within two years, Mucheng had been retaken and Zufu Jiang was publicly executed.

In the aftermath of the Inauspicious Year, the Jiang movement was renewed. They were again able to take Mucheng, but this time they also gained the recognition of a few key international powers. The conflict was taken to a peace conference and later mediation began on defining borders for a new state. In order to ensure their status as a separate state, the rebels put forward the concept of the “Jinping State” (金瓶), which had a radically different bureaucratic structure from the empire. The Golden Bottle constitutional form was primarily concerned with the maximization of economic output and garnered much international attention, further cementing the new concept of Xiguo as an independent state.

Years after the negotiations were completed, investigative journalists revealed a major ethnic cleansing had occurred during the war and negotiations. Intense violence along ethnic lines eventually erupted into a civil war, which continues to the current day, in no small part due to a series of armistices which have collapsed over the years. These conflicts have substantially reduced the population and area of the nation.

Preferred Map Location: West of Chongmae

Culture:
What languages are spoken? Mandarin (official), Korean (diplomatic), a third minority language

What religions are practiced? Majority irreligion

Brief description of your nation’s culture and history:

Many of the customs in Xiguo have been inherited from its former overlords in Chongmae, which the central government has generally attempted to suppress. To this end, the state promotes a work-obsession as an alternative, encouraging private companies to provide social activities in the workplace. Additionally, the state has moved accelerated and advanced secondary school instruction out of neighborhood schools and into boarding schools; the state has also disincentivized extended family cohabitation by providing tax-advantaged senior living facilities in a few central locations.

Government & Economy
What is the current political situation in your nation? Unstable, prone to factionalism and violence. The central government has a tenuous control of key manufacturing centers, but organized crime, especially racketeering, is common.

Brief description of your nation’s government:
Officially, the state is an association of capitalists and bankers who form the Chamber of Commerce. All other state functions descend from this central cameralist view,

In practice, the state is a unitary, single-party organization whose primary activity is the administration of a public labor pool for private corporations who cooperate with the state. A personality cult around “Grandfather Jiang” is a prominent aspect of the state and he is often used as the face of the government despite being long deceased. The state also operates key financial institutions including a highly interventionist central bank.

What is your nation’s primary industries? The primary industrial products are cheap electronics and disposable medical equipment for export, but significant resources are devoted to the development of autarky, which has been an economic disaster.

What are its main exports? Imports? Major imports include heavy machinery, skilled professionals, weapons, and energy.

Brief description of your nation’s economic situation: The state’s experiment in autarky has been filled with more failures than successes. While every home in Xiguo has a heavily subsidized microwave oven and the country has the highest per capita consumption of oranges, there is a three-year waiting list for imported cars and the nation’s education system is in shambles as native academics regularly flee the country across it’s vast, poorly guarded frontier which also admits billions of dollars in black market goods.

Military
What is the primary purpose of your armed forces? The military’s primary purpose is to suppress the Youzhen faction, a task at which is has either failed or been prevented from achieving. It has also historically been used to enact ethnic cleansings.

What is your military like? Most of the military is land-based and focused towards the interior. Almost all legally imported vehicles are for military use.

Brief description of your nation’s military’s capability: All military forces are currently devoted towards internal conflicts, any international actions would be entirely symbolic.

Diplomacy
What role do you see your nation fulfilling in the region? A failed PRC trying to imitate Japan’s economic miracle.

Who are its friends and who are its rivals? Anti-Cheongmae, but often supported by international corporations who have financial interests in the state or private businesses sympathetic to the cameralist ideology. International leaders beholden to private donors are often mysteriously uninterested in the history of human rights abuses and ethnic cleansing.

Brief description of your nation’s diplomatic approach: Since Shanghui heavily depends on international opinion for its legitimacy, they have many cultural and good-will ambassadors around the world. The state invests in public relations firms and troll farms to defend itself from accusations of ethnic cleansing and Cheongmae-ness.

Artemis Application
General Information
Full Nation Name: The Kingdom of Svanland (Konungariket Svanland / Luijin Kuningaskunta / Luijamaa Kuningriik)
Short Name: Svanland
Population: 18-22 million
Brief synopsis of your nation: A peaceful northern kingdom with three dominant Svannish peoples: the Taunlandic (!Swedish), North Luyoan (!Finnish) and South Luyoan (!Estonian) peoples united by a common religion and similar culture that is known for its extensive welfare system and high degree of political rights.

Preferred Map Location: North West Borealis
Image

Culture
What languages are spoken? !Swedish, !Finnish, !Estonian
What religions are practiced? Although increasingly Atheist, Svanland's traditional religion is !Lutherianism
Brief description of your nation’s culture and history: Originally a sparsely populated and divided northern land that was united by converted Taunlandic Vikings in a series of crusades from the Middle Ages onward replacing local small farm lords with Taunlandic nobles. Taunlandic culture and language were imposed onto Svanland until the 1700s when Queen Adelaide II, whose reign saw the decline of the Svannish kingdom from a great power, instituted reform which sought to heal the divides of Svanland making Luyoan an official language. In the 1800s various Luyoan movements marked the passage of the Trefolkförbundetslag that made the three Svannish peoples equal before the law. By the late 1800s, socialist movements rose heavily in popularity leading to the creation of the Svannish welfare state where high taxes are imposed on the people in order to allow for great social programs and benefits. Today Svanland is a known for liberal values, political rights and democracy seeking to engage with the world through peaceful diplomacy and cooperation.

Government & Economy
What is the current political situation in your nation? The municipalities of Svanland are facing ever-greater costs as the Svannish populace ages and with people moving to the cities, municipalities find themselves with shrinking funds to deal with the costs. On the national stage, left-wing politicians and centrist politicians debate over how to deal with the population crisis and climate change. The Svannish are a prosperous people enjoying peace and political stability alongside a high living standard.
Brief description of your nation’s government: A unitary kingdom with a unicameral legislature. The king has little political power and serves mostly as a symbol. Municipalities are granted a great deal of political autonomy as it is prefered that political decisions are taken as close as possible to those whom they affect. This also burdens municipalities with great costs. This leads to smaller municipalities to unite in order to combine their resources. Politics on the national stage is significantly harder to participate in as strict language laws require any politician serving on the national stage to be fluent in all three languages of Svanland.
What is your nation’s primary industries? Lumber, Oil, Mining and machinery.
What are its main exports? Imports? Exports: Oil, Lumber, foodstuffs, furniture, paper products and machinery. Imports: Chemicals, machinery, Foodstuffs, plastic products and textiles.
Brief description of your nation’s economic situation: Svanland enjoys a relative degree of economic security through its national oil fund, however, an ageing population is slowly pushing the welfare state to its limits. Most Svannish work in the service industry but Lumber, Oil and Mining industries are also major employers in more removed parts of Svanland.

Military
What is the primary purpose of your armed forces? The military serves first and foremost for the defence of Svanland. Svanland's national conscription means that it has a large reserve. Its army is divided into the Naval Force, Land Force and Air Force respectively.
What is your military like? Largely meant as a means for defence, in peacetime it mostly serves as border patrol at land and sea. National conscription means that most Svannish men have to attend the army at one point in their lives or choose a year of civil service in its stead making it a diverse institution. However, Svannish policy of armed neutrality means that it must also uphold an army that can defend the policy.
Brief description of your nation’s military’s capability: The Svannish military is largely aimed towards defence to uphold its armed neutrality if it were attacked. This means that it is trained to function in Svannish terrain and lacks in offensive capability far outside its own borders and waters.

Diplomacy
What role do you see your nation fulfilling in the region? As a very centrist left-leaning nation, Svanland could possibly act as a mediator in the world between countries with opposing ideologies. Upholding good diplomatic relations with as many nations as possible is held in great importance in Svannish foreign policy in order to take care of the Svannish both inside and outside their borders.
Who are its friends and who are its rivals? As a neutral nation, Svanland would avoid making rivals. Still, Svanland would get better along with other democratic and free countries while viewing more tyrannical nations with suspicion while trying to uphold cordial ties. Free trade with other free countries, especially ones nearby, would be a prominent objective in diplomacy.
Brief description of your nation’s diplomatic approach: Svanland seeks to form at least cordial relations with as many nations as possible and to actively and enthusiastically participate in international cooperation as this increases the nation's capability to take care of its citizenry. In essence, friends are better than rivals.

Artemis Application
General Information
Full Nation Name: Nurab Republic of Pavirata
Short Name: Pavirata
Population: 50m
Brief synopsis of your nation: Pavirata, meaning “Holy Earth”, is a Nurab theocracy That arose in the 17th century in a revolution against the occupying Thae-Kwae Empire.

Such a theocracy is governed by strict Nurabi moral codes, which seek to enforce an ascetic lifestyle(there are exceptions and not everyone is a monk, ofc). The head of government is the Jathadar, also referred to globally as the ‘Great Jathadar’. There are three major ‘sacred seats’ of Jathadar across the country, and the Great is chosen from these three. Together, the triumvirate rule as an administrative council. The legislative and judicial branches are also almost entirely consisted of clergy, barring more specialized administrative officials and military.

The end goal of the Pavirata revolution, which is believed to be a continuous process from the 17th century, is to liberate the world from its worldly attachments and ‘unrealities’.

Preferred Map Location: https://i.imgur.com/foSCz5A.png

Culture
What languages are spoken? common/liturgical: punjabi basically

Other: gurajati, kashmiri, marathi, seojal, raji, nahuatl

What religions are practiced? Nurab, it’s a cross between Jainism and Sikhism with the non-theistic characteristics of Buddhism. Many minor suppressed religions, banned from public worship.

Brief description of your nation’s culture and history: Pre-Nurab, most of what would be Pavirata was Hindu and Animist, the Nurabi were, before the 17th century, considered radical ascetics. The precedent for a unified Pavirata first started in ancient times, in which vast indigenous empires ultimately united most of the country over the course of a millennia.

Leading up to the 17th century from the 1st c, the most enduring Empire would be the Tapana, an era throughout the 6th to 10th century that was a golden age of philosophy and art. Later, the Thae-Kwae Empire would arrive from the west, and their decadent rule would lead to the revolution of the Nurab. Over the next few centuries, Pavirata would expand, forcefully converting the masses through their moral laws. The modern theocracy as we know it would actually begin in the early 20th century, with these more strict laws dictating a national conduct.

There were phases in Pavirata’s history, the nobles initially retained comfortable control after the revolution, until the 19th century. Then, in the name of revolution, the clergy were able to expand their powers. In the 20th century, stricter laws regarding moral conduct were passed.

Government & Economy
What is the current political situation in your nation? Theocracy under a Nurab Guru clergy.
Brief description of your nation’s government: synopsis basically

In addition: the legislative council consist of minor clergy leaders selected by their circles to go represent their Nurab community. There are three sections of the assembly, each representing a ‘Jatha’ from which the Jathadar descend. The Jathadar are all elected from their assembly, then the overseeing judicial council, composed of former Jathadar’s or other religious elders mostly, choose the Great Jathadar to lead the government.

What is your nation’s primary industries?

Agribusiness
Artisan crafts
Mining
Renewables
Electronics

What are its main exports? Imports?
Imports
Electronics
Rare earths
Appliances
Petroleum
Computers

Exports
Timber
Foodstuff
Machinery
Metals
Tobacco/Cannabis

Brief description of your nation’s economic situation: The Paviratan economy is supposedly steeped in decentralized planning, led by a mix of local conglomerates and government corporations. Though the standard of living is high and secure, wealth inequality is a major issue, with the most influential clergy retaining immense wealth and power.

Military
What is the primary purpose of your armed forces? Pavirata tries to balance defense with the ability to act across the border and in its claimed sea.
What is your military like? Most focus on naval and air abilities, the army being less offensive and mostly consisting of a purely defensive national guard. The army’s expeditionary force is small.
Brief description of your nation’s military’s capability: nothing big or global, just super fancy. Not set though, neighbors could change it.

Diplomacy
What role do you see your nation fulfilling in the region? Seeing as I’m likely going between CCC and koh-jeol it seems like an interesting country to add to some tense dynamic in that area.
Who are its friends and who are its rivals? Not entirely a pariah but likely won’t find a strong ideological partner, mostly useful and convenient allies, Pavirata could be known to flip-flop often to its needs.
Brief description of your nation’s diplomatic approach: Geopolitically the Jathadar and Gurus would be realist in their dealings.

Application of Sorlyset

Postby Sorlyset » Mon Jan 27, 2020 7:36 am

Brief description of your nation’s culture and history:
The Kingdom of Sorlyset's name translates as 'Kingdom of the(ly) seven(set) sisters(sor)'. The national mythology reports that King Gondioc, had seven daughters at a time when the nation was made up of separate kingdoms, princedoms and tyrannies. Each daughter married a prince from seven of the largest kingdoms. After a period of great war from both within and externally, the seven sisters, all of whom were widowed, sought to unite the kingdom under a single crown, offering a powerful parliament of nobles to gain support. A war of unification was aided by the sweeping of a new religion.
OOC: The culture is broadly that of Occitanie, a region of SW France which has variously included parts of Spain and Italy.

I have taken the liberty of slightly raising the land height of the mountains. Please advise.

Culture
What languages are spoken? Occitane
What religions are practiced? Nou Cathar (amongt others)
Brief description of your nation’s culture and history: Romance and Mediterranean. A good natured people who enjoy their history and culture, and a place where the people are as sunny as the weather. Epicureans, Sorlyseti's would rather enjoy Sanglar (boar) pate, red wine, cheese, pasta and sea food then wage war or concern themselves with the outside world. Periods of unrest; a civil war and following a failed communist revolution in the 1950's which resulted in the current democracy for e.g. have them left wary of conflict and war. A restless youth with high unemployment calls for change, but is happier to sit in the sun, swim and talk than start a revolution, as their elders, enjoying generous retirements, gossips in from the shady spots or play Patange (boules), whilst their parents work 37hr weeks or go on strike.

Government & Economy
What is the current political situation in your nation?
Stable overall with frequent elections caused by collapsing coalitions.
Brief description of your nation’s government:
A constitutional monarchy oversees a proportionally elected parliament and smaller appointed council, which is voted / appointed by regions. Two principalities exist; Andorre a small mountainous nation famous for skiing and duty free; and, Nommaco, a tiny coastal city state.
What is your nation’s primary industries?
Agriculture, Tourism, Vinery, heavy plant and aerospace.
What are its main exports? Imports?
Exports: Food, wine, farming machinery, aerospace, heavy plant. Imports: petroleum products, consumer goods, rare earth metals & mining products, fertiliser.
Brief description of your nation’s economic situation:
Slow growth at 0.8% p.a. Unemployment at 8%.

Military
What is the primary purpose of your armed forces?
Defence, coast guard, mountain rescue.
What is your military like?
Full of pageantry and wine. Dangerously easy going.
Brief description of your nation’s military’s capability:
Modest. TBD. Two aircraft carriers. Little long range bombing capability. Decent fighter and helicopter forces. Middling ground forces.

Diplomacy
What role do you see your nation fulfilling in the region?
I am not sure yet. Friendly face? Never the belligerent.
Who are its friends and who are its rivals?
I foresee an interesting relation ship with Sovascaria. They are in many ways a mirror image, they import what we export and visa versa (e.g. import foods and export rare earth metals). They are oligarchical and libertarian whereas we are democratic and socially conservative. They also state a "domineering take on foreign affairs" whereas I think Sorlyset is the opposite. It looks like an interesting symbiotic, but potential fraught relationship.
Brief description of your nation’s diplomatic approach:
Friendly, good natured, single faced.

Artemis Application
General Information
Full Nation Name: The Kingdom of Nedjereut
Short Name: Nedjereut / Atnulia (Similar to Iran / Persia where the country's official name is Nedjereut but is often called Atnulia by outsiders)
Population: ~30-55 mil
Brief synopsis of your nation: A conservative kingdom that has survived through the ages as an absolute monarchy until the late 1800s when the Lekashebi Revolution took place displacing the ruling aristocracy and transforming Atnulia into a de facto democratic state while keeping the king in power in exchange for granting the Hiwat secondary say in political matters. Key to the identity of the nation is its age which has historically shown itself as a reluctance to change. Despite its reluctance, the nation has changed much as once an agrarian rural society has turned into a nation of sprawling urban cities and paid workers. The country's conservative nature also means it is relatively stable both economically and politically.

Culture
What languages are spoken? Djeduish (Ancient-Egyptian-based conlang with great influences from Greek and Coptic), !Maltese, !Greek
What religions are practiced? !Atenism (monotheistic religion based on Aten), !Riaism (Ancient Egyptian religion), !Abrahamic religions and/or whichever religions will be practised close to Nedjereut
Brief description of your nation’s culture and history: A kingdom that has survived through antiquity to the modern-day world. During this immense amount of time Nedjereut has changed a lot but through all that change it has clung to its origins in the depths of history. Every ruler in Atnulia's history has connected themselves to this history through their own family tree. Even when foreign dynasties took over, they connected their family to Atnulian history most often through marriage such as the !Greek dynasties.

Pride in its own past has made Nedjereut unwilling to change often having change thrust upon it. This changed in the late 1800s when the old societal order collapsed in the Lekashebi revolution as the Democratic Front won against the old regime leading to widespread democratization. Despite this, a sizeable portion of the populace wanted, and still do want, to preserve the caste system. As the political desires of reformers and conservatives grow ever-increasingly apart one uniting factor in the Nedjereut political scene has been economic policy with the countries massive oil fields bringing in a significant amount of economic prosperity to Nedjereut.

Government & Economy
What is the current political situation in your nation? Nedjreut's society is also marked by a still-present-yet-fading social caste system where servants and the homeless are located at the bottom and at the top is the king with education, wealth and marriage being the only ways of improving one's social standing. This hierarchy is at the centre of Nedjereut's political scene where conservative forces seek to preserve it while liberal forces are actively trying to disassemble it and bring forth greater equality relieving political differences. However, oil will not last forever and what Nedjereut will do after it runs out is a central question in the political scene. As it stands the country's unicameral legislature, the Hiwat, is under the control of a sizeable reformist coalition that seeks to juggle the interests of the various religious and ethnic groups while trying to enact sensible reform.
Brief description of your nation’s government: Although officially an Absolute Monarchy, since the Lekashebi Revolution Nedjereut has been a democratic monarchy as the king, pharaoh, assigns secondary power to the Hiwat. Ever since the Revolution, the king has remained out of political affairs as much as possible giving the Hiwat de facto final say on almost all matters.
What is your nation’s primary industries? Oil, Finance & banking, IT/electronics and education/academia
What are its main exports? Imports? Exporting: Oil, Electronics, Metal and some chemical products. Importing
Brief description of your nation’s economic situation: Cars, Electronics Foodstuffs, Animal Products and Textiles

Military
What is the primary purpose of your armed forces? Defence. The Nedjereut Armed Forces are first and foremost for the defence of the kingdom and its territories. Due to Nedjereut's abundance of oil it is able to make significant investments to its military.
What is your military like? The Nedjereut military is formed of the army, navy, air force, cyber self-defence force alongside special forces. For a country its size, Nedjereut is focusing on a smaller, agile and well-equipped army and navy to help defend its island holdings.
Brief description of your nation’s military’s capability: Due to Nedjereut's long coastline and island holdings, it has had to significantly invest in its Naval and Aerial capabilities to defend itself and its oil fields taking focus away from the Army. As a result, Nedjereut has been keen to form more compact, agile and well-equipped armed forces to conduct fast and effective 'defensive' strikes if need be.

Diplomacy
What role do you see your nation fulfilling in the region? A stable tax-haven-esque place that is willing to spend large quantities of money to help itself and its allies. A financial centre and a producer of luxury goods.
Who are its friends and who are its rivals? Nedjereut would see other conservative and/or Capitalist nations as friends on the world stage while it would be more wary of revolutionist countries.
Brief description of your nation’s diplomatic approach: Remove trade barriers securing both imports and exports while subtly increasing its influence through its economic weight on the international stage. Form positive, stable and long-lasting diplomatic connections.

Out Of Character Information
What are your former/current regions? Eurth, Kylaris, Meihua, Ikuisuus, Greater Middle East
What are your former/current nations? Shffahkia, Mihi Mai Ra, Samoyeta, Les Pays-Bas Unis
How did you hear about Artemis? Through a discord server where the iiwiki was shared
If asked to reduce the power/scope of your nation, how would you do so? Reduce population and GDP.

Side Note: I'm leaving some areas unnamed/blank so I can integrate Nedjereut better until, for example, a Greek player joins.

Artemis Application
General Information
Full Nation Name:Othaean Commonwealth
Short Name:Othaea
Population: 72,840,950
Brief synopsis of your nation: The land of Liberty, the phoenix of the West, derisively known as the comfortably Enslaved, the nation of Wanderers, the pink-pantsed; the Othaean Commonwealth was forged in the fire of revolution in the mid-1740s, overthrowing the vestiges of their former High Kingdom as they founded a new state on then-radical ideas of classical liberalism and a free market. A fortress nation from thereafter, the nascent Commonwealth weaponized its cultural diversity, driving a force of industrialization forward that brought many foriegn workers to their lands. As the leadership of the High Council slowly distanced itself from its apolitical idealist roots, the newer Othaea became a rather stern force fighting for freedom (when conveniently aligned with national interest) throughout the world, often realizing its ambitions of economic influence over other nations. Now, Othaea is a strange mix of career bureaucrats, hippies and new-wave trailblazers, reclusive mountain men, and depressed singles living in copy-pasted suburbias.

Preferred Map Location:Image

Culture
What languages are spoken? Anglic (Otahean, Deseretan, various dialects), Gallic (Low and Middle), Rhaetian, Zuistran, immigrant minority languages (TBD)
What religions are practiced? Aenirist, Smithic, Spiritualist, Nurab, Reoist
Brief description of your nation’s culture and history: An Anglic stronghold from the onset of history, the Othaeans initially chose a different religious path than their Deseretan cousins to the east, opting to idolize the Sea Goddess of Aenira over all others. This initial religious infrastructure, soon centralized into mass centers of worship and a strong tradition, lent Othaean society a strong matriarchal bent, especially among religious authorities. As the Othaean state expanded, they included the Rhaetian tribes of the mainland (NotCelts) and the Zuistran trading cities of the coast to the south (notFrisians). Well into the later Commonwealth, Othaea became a hub of many immigrants, from everywhere as close as Deseret and Verdan, to the more distant Caplpotlin Coalition and Pavirata, among others (insert culture here).

Government & Economy
What is the current political situation in your nation? Politically, Othaea is very socially liberal, having decriminalized drugs and pursued a system of rehabilitation-based justice that has enjoyed much success. Most political discussions are split about Othaea's place in the world regarding its proactivity towards supporting human rights and engaging in alliances, versus isolationism. Though the system is multifaceted, many are single-issue voters on green energy, regulation of the military-industrial complex, antitrust legislation, and protection against automation.
Brief description of your nation’s government:A secular democratic Commonwealth, the executive of Othaea is a high council composed of the governors of every state plus the capital of Yarrin. The bicameral Congress, composed of the upper Grand Senate and lower General Estates, has the power of the purse and creates laws.
What is your nation’s primary industries? Electronics, luxury automobiles, military equipment, skilled labor and academia, film-making and cinema, software (operating systems, translation software, facial recognition, virtual reality, etc); food, including cheese, wine, sausages and salamis, cakes, etc.
What are its main exports? Imports?

Exports: Services, Electronics (incl. microelectronics and large-scale devices like hospital equipment), culture (incl. films and novels), military equipment, luxury goods

Imports: Food products, Energy products, low-cost automobiles, raw resources, manufactured resources
Brief description of your nation’s economic situation: Having evolved well into the service economy, Othaea is now facing the looming future of automation and the ethical concerns with sourcing all cheaply produced goods in other, poorer nations. The economy is volatile, with haphazard regulations and a mix of free-market capitalists and more reserved social democrats on the council and in the government confusing the robust stock market. Gas prices have especially risen, with electric cars becoming a fad to compensate slowly.

Military
What is the primary purpose of your armed forces? the Othaean military, known as the Othaean National Armed Forces, have a force-projection oriented approach and have been characterized as interventionist in the past, though war is a vastly unpopular metric among the modern Othaean demographic, and thus Othaea has not fought a major war in years.
What is your military like? Professional, training-focused, and often trigger-happy, the ONAF grunts are often eager to use their training, but high command keeps them on a tight leash; the military is seen as a good career choice at the moment, due to prolonged peace and extensive benefits granted to those who join.
Brief description of your nation’s military’s capability:A small but highly trained force of approximately 350,000, the professional army uses modern equipment and is split into the Othaean National Navy (ONN), Othaean National Air Force (ONAF) and Othaean National Army (ONA).

Diplomacy
What role do you see your nation fulfilling in the region? Taking over from Sovascaria, Othaea will serve as a cultural melting pot and "world police" if under centrist or right-wing control, albeit tempered by not having as strong of an ideological fervor as Sovascaria did. It will likely try to set up democratic systems and intervene for their own benefit in areas that they have nothing to do with; leftists and liberals within Othaea's government are anti-war, but pro-influence, and will likely want to use more clandestine means of force projection, whether through the use of intelligence services or just competent diplomacy.
Who are its friends and who are its rivals? Othaea is friendly with Deseret and its immediate neighbors, views Verdan with tentative friendliness due to social democratic forces in Othaean government. Generally speaking, it has a coldness towards historical monarchies, and an outright distrust of nondemocratic systems throughout the world.
Brief description of your nation’s diplomatic approach: See above.

Artemis Application
General Information
Full Nation Name:Republic of Bafeng
Short Name:Bafeng
Population:20 millions
Brief synopsis of your nation:Bafeng is a landlocked Nurabi Unitarian "Theorepublic" located in western Irathava. It was founded in 1799 after the Halaaren Holy War. It is ruled in accordance to the Guru Kanavuna, the collection of all the texts considered canons by the Nurabi. Bafeng gots its name from the river around which it first emerged before expanding to the Nieruko valley and then to the plateaus and highlands surrounding it. Despite the theocratic nature of its government, the state is also concerned with finding a balance between the Lay and Religious sides of society, notably alternating between clerical and secular leaders and having its bicameral assembly divided between lay public figures and recognized gurus.

Culture
What languages are spoken? Mainly Ren, but also other related Fule languages
What religions are practiced?Nurab
Brief description of your nation’s culture and history:Originally, the Halaaren lived in a long strip of agricultural lands that spread on both side of the Nieriko river. The valley was first unified by foreign conquerors, founding the Kingdom of Sule around the 12th century. Nurabi missionaries reached the region a century after and established their first hermitages in the highlands of Yallo, a mountainous region that remained independent from Sule. They formed a first generation of Halaaren monks and missionaries. They would form a caste of clerics, the Darobe, living in settled communities and living off of charity.

During the 18th century, tensions between the Nurabi and the Traditionalists reached an all-time high. In 1740, Nurabi tribes from Yallo rose up in an Holy War and conquered the Highlands, founding a state known as the Yallo Ganate. This act inspired similar phenomenons in surrounding regions, notably in Sule where the Warlord Alfabaal rose in revolt, supported by the majority of the Darobe monks who proclaimed him "Masigarai" or "Commander of the Souls". He would die before his work was achieved and was succeeded by his nephew, Sakiran, who finally put an end to the Sule Kingdom in 1799 and established Bafeng.

Government & Economy
What is the current political situation in your nation? An oligarchy, Bafeng practice an alternance of rulership between the Djörn, a lay leader, and the Massigarai, the religious commander. Both are elected for life by their respective assemblies. Currently, the two dominant parties of the country are the Liyah and the Sahasaa. The Liyah represent most of the secular assembly and follow a general liberal and conservative political line. The Sahasaa meanwhile, is a religious and traditionalist party. Both parties are old, having been founded in the middle of the 19th century, and thus display a variety of beliefs and political wings, their dominant lines having changed thorough the years. Other parties exist, but form the minority of representative in either assemblies. They can display varied beliefs but play only a minor role in the country's politics.
Brief description of your nation’s government:The Alkadray Order serves as the highest constitutional entity, ensuring that all actions undertook by the Executive and laws passed by the Assemblies uphold the Nurabi faith. The government is divided into three branches : the Executive Cabinet; the legislative made of two equal assemblies, one secular and one religious, representing the "interests of the nation"; and a judiciary branch composed of Gurus and scholars recognized as experts in the interpretation of the Guru-Kanavuna and other legal texts. The leadership of the Executive branch is special in that it is held alternatively by a secular figure and then a religious leader, the latter being the "Masigarai" or "Commander of the Soul", and the former being the "Djöm". The Djörn is elected by the secular assembly, while the Masigarai is elected by the High Council of the Alkadray.
What is your nation’s primary industries?
What are its main exports? Imports? It's main exports include agricultural products, from cereals to bovines, phosphate, uranium, and oil. It mainly import foodstuff, heavy machinery, pharmaceutical and chemical products.
Brief description of your nation’s economic situation: Bafeng's economy is supported by the mining sector, especially of Uranium, the exploitation of oil fields that have been discovered inside the country, agriculture, and light industries such as clothing or furniture manufacturing. Mining, agriculture, and textile are the main job purveyors. The economy is growing, supported by a good network of infrastructures and a government that generally wish to attract foreign investments. Because of its landlocked situation, its main partners are its neighbors but it also export and import a lot of products through the railways lines that run through Irathava, linking it to more distant countries such as Pavirata and Koh-Jeol.

Military
What is the primary purpose of your armed forces?Because of the country's relative small size, the modern Bafengese army mostly serve a defensive role.
What is your military like? Relatively small, but decently organized even if moral and training is lacking among non "elite" troops.
Brief description of your nation’s military’s capability: Power projection is lacking, the equipment is not very modern, but it has excellent genie corps to exploit the country's terrain.

Diplomacy
What role do you see your nation fulfilling in the region? It's relative isolation makes it a neutral force by default, but it can be a source of mineral ressources for other Theorepublics or countries with a sizeable Nurabi population. OOCly the country is just there to build on an idea that I had.
Who are its friends and who are its rivals? It would share a natural bond with other "Nurabi" countries and "Theorepublics".
Brief description of your nation’s diplomatic approach: It doesn't really have enough weight to throw around, but it still aim to find a balance between religious morale and economic necessities.

Out Of Character Information
What are your former/current regions? Ajax, Artemis
What are your former/current nations? Mutul, Drevstran, Calpullali
How did you hear about Artemis? You know how
If asked to reduce the power/scope of your nation, how would you do so? Reducing the population by another 5 millions. It's about all there's to do really.
