Richardson Campaign meeting
Concord, New Hampshire
March 19th, 2019

Image

Richardson was not there in person, but that was the point of hiring a good campaign staff. New Hampshire was the state that Richardson probably aligned with the most politically and ideologically so it would be a major target, and until Dunn formally endorsed and made her a non threat in Iowa the first “Target State” would be New Hampshire.

To that end his Campaign Manager Michael Sutton and Deputy Campaign Manager Jane Camacho hiried Randall Ferrechio to manage his campaign in New Hampshire. Randall was a staffer for (Not Kelly Ayote) before she was a Senator and was on her team when they were first elected in 2010. In 2014 he ran the 1st district Congressional Campaign for the incumbent Republican and then was the Deputy Campaign Manager for the current Governor’s 2016 campaign, in 2018 he returned to manage the 1st district congressional campaign.

On the 19th they held a meeting to discuss the importance of New Hampshire and how to win the state. Richardson’s likely financial advantage would be negated in New Hampshire and Iowa, whose size made it possible for lesser known candidates to pull out ahead in the state through retail politics and cheap ad buys. Luckily for Richardson he had a long history at retail politics and his current opponents did not, making that potential threat much less of one. Additionally his speech at the politics and eggs event this year showed his respect for the state, which mattered especially when his opponents did not speak or even attend.

Iowa was defined by its socially conservative evangelical wing of the Republican party, New Hampshire business wing where Richardson had many ties. 21% of the NH primary voters were evangelicals compared to 56% in Iowa, 34% of the NH electorate still considered itself very conservative which was less good but that did not necessarily mean they would support populists in the party. NH also had a long tradition of supporting Governors over Senators or members of the House, with polls frequently showing overwhelming support to put a generic Governor in the White House over a generic Senator.

New Hampshire could be broken down into four main regions. Hillsborough and Rockingham county formed the first region, Merrimack and Strafford the second region, the western counties in the Connecticut river valley (Cheshire, Sullivan, and Grafton) were the third region, while the fourth and final region was made up by Belnap, Carroll and Coos counties.

Region 1 comprised just over half of the state’s voters, and the growth in these more urban counties was what turned New Hampshire from a Red State to a purple or light blue state, much of this was caused by Massachuestts liberals fleeing the state and moving to New Hampshire, a similar phenomenon to those leaving California for Texas now. A study said that fewer than half the current residents of the state had been born there. What was somewhat strange is that the towns just outside the major cities had become some of the most republican areas in the state. Nashua was tech heavy and wealthy but the surrounding areas and municipalities in the SouthEast had been trending more and more Republican. A major change however was that the unions that once had a stranglehold on Manchester and Nashua were now gone, and while it was still Democratic it was a bit more elastic.

Region 2 had about a fifth of New Hampshire’s voters and was dominated by the University of New Hampshire, especially Strafford, which caused it to majorly lean Democratic. It was also quite polarized with a high number of Tea Party Republicans in the county of Strafford, who Dunn could potentially help him with.

Region 3 was a democratic stronghold and held 16% of the state’s voters. Its overwhelmingly democratic lean had been a major factor in the rise of democrats in recent decades in the state, one that outweighed its overall size. It did however have a few holdouts of moderate Republicans in places like Lebanon that supported moderate Republicans in 2016.

Region 4 was a bit of a catch all, rustic, strongly Republican and lightly populated it was perfect for Richardson’s brand of retail and Ferrechio was adamant that he Richardson had to visit the northernmost reaches of the state to be considered legitimate and ‘the real deal’ to the rest of it. The rural counties were struggling economically but had been helped by the Wolf Presidency and the Republican Governor though the wealth gap between the northern towns and cities like Manchester and Concord was vast. An exception to this was Hanover in Grafton County which was traditionally considered the most liberal town in the state.

Richardson’s team began plotting out a strategy to win the first primary in the nation state.

Senator Tim Westra
March 21st, 2019
Marshalltown, Marshall County, Iowa

Tim continued his three-day tour of Iowa, where he was hoping to emphasize his agriculture price-stabilization plan. Marshalltown was a big food processing city, so farm prices remained important even in Iowa's cities. Tim was emphasizing retail politics in the Hawkeye State, trying to draw a contrast with some of the other Democratic contender who weren't really focusing on retail at all. Rallies were also expensive and, while Tim was doing well enough in fundraising, he didn't want to spend too big very early.

He arrived at the Marshalltown Public Library, where he gave a short talk on his economic vision for America. The event drew a decent number of people, mostly middle-aged and a good number on the younger side. He emphasized his farm plan, again, and explained his idea to stabilize prices through supply control, and replace most subsidies with loans that would empower farmers instead of "keeping them at the mercy of government cash," as Tim put it. He bashed the Wolf Administration for being reckless in its trade policy; Tim said he would put farmers first and he would also be critical of trade deals, but not in the same way as Wolf. He touted his plan to raise teacher pay with the establishment of a Teacher Tax Credit for public school educators in low-income districts; he thought this idea would go over well with the educated voters in Iowa. He mentioned his proposal to expand the EITC, and claimed it was an effective way of alleviating poverty by putting money into the hands of the working class, money that could then be invested and grow the economy. He took selfies after his short talk, answered some questions, and then left the library.

He visited a local tool-making shop, a Marshalltown Company location, where he met with several workers, most of whom weren't unionized. Again, he mentioned his plan to supplement their wages with an EITC expansion, which he empathized wasn't a government handout, but rather a way of rewarding work, especially those who were employed by medium-sized businesses. He spoke about his plan to revamp public school so their children could get a good job in a very competitive economy. He mentioned that he wanted to eliminate tuition fees at public colleges, and would tax the crooks on Wall Street to do so. He stressed his respect for hard work and said his campaign was all about making work pay.

At the end of the day, Tim and his team of organizers went around the city, knocking doors. They all mentioned Tim's climate plan; climate change was personal to Marshalltown, which had been devastated by a tornado in 2018 that destroyed much of the city's north side. Tim mentioned that his plan had been endorsed by Abigail Winthrop, the Senate's climate champion, and he said he would partner with the private sector to weatherize homes and create climate insurance programs. He said he wasn't narrowly focused on government spending, but would find ways to establish public-private partnerships to attract spending from private industry. He went down the same narrative with healthcare, where he touted his vision for creating a competitive industry with a private option that as actually affordable. He wouldn't make the uninsured buy his plan; instead, they'd be automatically enrolled and premiums would be eliminated for the poorest and capped for everyone else. He said he wanted "Medicare for America, not Medicare for All Who Can Afford It."

After his volunteers had knocked on hundreds of doors, Tim felt it had been a successful day.

Nathaniel Richardson
South Carolina
March 19th, 2019

Image

Richardson’s plan for the primary had three pillars, first the endorsement of the Dunn’s in Iowa, second his ideological similarity to New Hampshire, and thirdly his proximity to South Carolina. Winning the 3 early states would (hopefully) give him incredible momentum heading into the rest of the primary, with the funds and name recognition to match. As such Richardson was investing heavily in those 3 states.

While the 19th was technically considered “Governor Time” on his schedule that did not mean his team was idle. With Richardson back in North Carolina for a few days his wife Amanda was able to leave to help set up the South Carolina operation and her close friend Jane Camacho, the Deputy Campaign manager for the Richardson National campaign, went with her. They met up with another colleague, Ruth Abbott who they had hired as South Carolina campaign manager. Ruth was young, a protege of Camacho who had cut her teeth in the past 4 years managing a number of local elections in the the Low Country of South Carolina.

It was controversial to hire someone as green as her for such an important position but she was bolstered by Tabitha Burke, the daughter of an incredibly well respected pastor in Upstate South Carolina and very popular in the state. Other hires included Jamie Johnson who was an expert in African American outreach, Sylvester Cruz who focused on suburban voters and Carolyn Howell who had extensive experience with rural voters.

Together they formulated a gameplan for South Carolina dividing it into 3 regions. The Lowlands, Upstate and Midlands.

The Upstate consisted of Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, Pickens, Oconee, Greenwood, Laurens, Cherokee, Union and Abbeville counties. It was very culturally conservative and not very diverse, (Not Huckabee) won it in 2008 and (Not Cruz) did well there in 2016.

The Midlands were Calhoun, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lexington, Orangeburg, Richland, Saluda, Sumter, Lee, Clarendon, Newberry and Aiken counties. It was more diverse and more democratic than most of the state supporting Baharia in 2008 and 2012. It was centered on Columbia whose suburbs were strongly Republican and contained the majority of the state’s African Americans. Many of the agricultural areas were also stuck in poverty, and while things had improved in recent years,

The Lowlands consisted of Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, Jasper, Allendale, Georgetown, Williamsburg and Horry counties. The coastal region that was decently conservative on paper but typically had a number of competitive counties, which split in the 2012 election. Charleston and Myrtle Beach were competitive in general elections due to the African American population. It also had a large transplant population, 58% of SC residents were born in the state and most of the transplants lived in the Low County in search of sun and happy retirement on the ocean.

The first thing they planned were BBQ retail events, the state was famous for the “BBQ Sauce divide” with descendants of the German immigrants favoring mustard based sauces from Charleston to Columbia, the Scots Irish preferred vinegar based sauces (as did Nate), while the Upstate preferred heavier tomato based sauces. Every retail event would feature Nate visiting a BBQ joint with the specific order planned out to ensure he was using the preferred local sauce.

Image

Columbia, Charleston, Beaufort, Greenville and York were more highly educated than the rest of the state, which favored Richardson. Richardson’s campaign planned on running up the score in Columbia and the Low Country which favored more moderate Republicans in past primaries while recruiting faith leaders in the Upstate and potentially blanketing the region in ads touting the abortion comments of Prendergast. Richland, Horry and Charleston would be targeted with a message on veterans care and being pro military as they had a massive concentration of veterans. In 2012 (not Mitt Romney) only beat (Not Gingrich) in 3 counties, Columbia, Charleston and Beaufort so they were also targeted as strong points in Richardson’s campaign.

Emphasis was also placed on the counties where the NC and SC media markets overlayed and the listeners were likely more familiar with Richardson. The Charlotte Market which encompassed York, Chester, Lancaster, and Cherokee counties. The Greenville-Spartanburg-Asheville-Anderson market which covered Oconee, Pickens, Anderson, Abbeville, Greenwood, Laurens, Greenville, Spartanburg, Union, and Cherokee. And the Myrtle Beach-Florence Market which covered Marlboro, Darlington, Florence, Marion, and Horry Counties. Richardson could get a 2 for 1 benefit by doing radio interviews in North Carolina that could be heard across the border in South Carolina. He could up his name recognition and favorability in SC while continuing to perform his gubernatorial duties in North Carolina. Richardson was also favored in this as the counties that traditionally supported less moderate candidates were along that border, so him being on the radio might suppress opposition to his candidacy.

South Carolina was vital, and it was not a contest that Richardson intended to lose.

"Thank you for bringing your question to Fresno today, sir. The state of the water supply in the United States these days is shambolic, and especially in what is meant to be a wealthy state like California, you would expect and have a right to expect better on this front. I have a vision for a United States which is predominantly food sovereign, and in order to achieve that, the government needs to be on the side of farmers, especially family farmers like yourself. That's why government spending on agriculture needs to be reformed in order to support those who need it most. Irrigating the Central Valley is our job, and we should do it, so that you can do your job to conquer the hot, inhospitable soil and make it produce crops. Crops that feed American families. So I'd have surveyors come out here, figure out what the best solution is to provide water - new wells, a reservoir, an aqueduct - and then we'll make sure we'll damn well do it."

Which has not gotten better under President Wolf."

"How are you going to expand and grow the Republican party? Why should we believe you have the coattails that can flip Congressional seats, the governorship, and down ballot races from dog catcher on up?"

"This state is going to hell, sir, you're right. It's going to take a Herculean effort to get California back on the right track, but it can be done. The state of Ronald Reagan isn't going to be left in the darkness and abandoned, and that's important to me. Too often in our political process, people get left behind. Blue state Republicans are one of those groups who've had it worse, and I want to make them a priority. I consider myself on the side of the forgotten. As such, I've got to make sure that I can deliver for them as much as anyone else."

"Expanding the Republican Party is massively important, and that's why I would want to encourage the Republican Party to give a greater amount of flexibility to state branches in order to better tailor their positions to state needs. A California Republican will look different from a Virginia Republican, there's no helping that, we live in a country which is naturally diverse and by its sheer size, different residents face radically different challenges. The Democrats maintain a broad coalition from progressives to moderates, and as much as I have my own views, if we're going to beat them, we need to make sure that we have a system that lets all Republicans work together, from libertarians and Tea Partyists to the evangelical right. We've got to be a brotherhood, united with an aim towards strong, Republican government."

"I'd also like to give a lot more of my time to supporting those down-ballot races. No President governs alone, and wherever I go, state-by-state, I would be explicit in my support for Republican candidates. I will name them. I would laud their achievements. I will denounce their opponents. They are the stars of their states, and they deserve attention. More time needs to be given by national figures across the Party for our candidates, and the Presidency is no exception to this. President Wolf has done well in bringing candidates to his rallies - I was overjoyed to be one of those people when we shared a stage on West Virginia in 2016. I've spoken to Senate Majority Leader Warrick and House Minority Leader Volker and they both understand my commitment to see more Republicans elected. I'll do that whether I'm the nominee or not, because this nation will be better that way. I'll put my money down, I'll put what influence I have, I'll put my voice on the line for every Republican."

"We've also got to make it easier to be a Republican. We need to continue to open up our national conversation so that people don't face cancel culture or discrimination for being a Republican, or even an unaligned conservative. We need to foster and support our teams of activists and members and give them more time to organize and deploy their assets when elections come. Especially at a time where more workers are flocking to the Republican Party than ever, we need to make sure they have the time and opportunity to contribute as they would like to."

"I understand all of this will take a tremendous amount of energy. But I think that my trip to Alaska last week, and my visits both this week and in the weeks to come show that I have the energy for it, to bounce from event to event. I go from state to state, I listen, and what I hear, I take to heart. The Republican Party is a listening party. Our agenda is guided by events like this, where ordinary people speak. And I think the more people see that, and the less of Democratic grandstanding, the more they'll understand that Republicans speak for them and not for special interests, which will ultimately help them choose our coalition."

Governor Jonah Prendergast Jr.
Wednesday 13th March
Nevada

Nevada was, compared to California, a far easier trip. Put simply, Jonah’s first visit to Nevada had only four stops whilst the California trip had taken up a good six. Whilst his upcoming visit to Virginia consisted of eight stops, that was split over two days. He knew he’d be back, both to California and Nevada… and probably every other state he visits, but at least he wanted to truly familiarize himself with every place he went to.

Image

The first stop was a tour of Hoover Dam, that towering citadel of the heyday of American dambuilding. Infrastructure was a perennial issue and - as expected - any hope of getting a bipartisan plan to improve and restore aging infrastructure through Congress had dwindled into nothing. Hoover Dam didn’t, in fact, escape from this issue, where technology from the 1930s was difficult to operate and it led to a shortage of labor ready trained to keep the place running. These palaces of industry fascinated Jonah, and he familiarized himself with the dam’s operation, surprised that the control center was manned only by a couple of people at any given time, and that these people often weren’t much younger than himself. As typical, however, he spoke at length with the people there, got to know them, wished them well. Wherever he went, he didn’t carry himself haughtily. He wasn’t a high-idealed political dragon, he was a man coming down to their level and listening patiently. It didn’t matter what their issue was, he’d stay and listen, and that was the kind of energy he wanted to project.

Image

His next visit took him to R O Ranch in Nye County, which was - by some accounts - the largest ranch in Nevada. Over six million acres in size, this tour served - as many of his trips did - more than one purpose. Not only would he familiarize himself more closely with the cattle ranching profession, but he would get plenty of photographs depicting him in the saddle, which would serve well to defuse any assertions regarding his age and fitness, something which astounded him that he’d not been attacked on yet. Of course, there weren’t actually all that many people here. Only a handful of cowboys and administrative staff, but he got to know them all the same with his infectious charisma, smiling along as he got to know their trade closely. It still blew his mind how so few men could move so many cows in the desired direction, in all honesty, and he accompanied them for a short stint as they herded what was easily more than a thousand cows, not really pushing himself (and thus keeping some distance in case the cows played up) and turning back after about fifteen minutes, as he couldn’t sink a whole day into this sort of activity and if he kept going, he’d end up very far away indeed. Nonetheless, he had found it very informative, and again in these men, he saw that adventurous American spirit that he so cherished.

Image

After he’d spent the joyful time at the ranch, his next heading was up towards Lake Tahoe. Northeast of there, stationed between decadent Reno and the state capital at Carson City was Virginia City, one of the great mining towns. In one way, it was a sad story - a place that once hosted 25,000 people now had less than 1,000 residents, but the Comstock Lode still yielded its silver. Comstock Mining Inc. now did the work here, and kept the mines open. Kept local people still in work, and that was to be celebrating. Mining was something that Jonah understood, and he had a good rapport with some of the workers he met as he displayed a familiarity and sympathy with their conditions. Whilst the conditions at his own mine weren’t great, he knew how to talk the talk, how to speak the language, and he got along well with miners, younger and older, as he immersed themselves in their work. He even managed to get a few healthy snaps of pictures of him holding mining equipment, looking all vigorous. He commended them, respected them, affirmed to them his belief that they were doing more for America and their family than anyone touting a liberal arts degree ever could - the usual spiel. Truthfully, it was a bit of a delight, and he spoke to them about the need to make sure their communities weren’t forgotten, and were rejuvenated to meet their needs. He wanted these people to know that their voices mattered, and that they were being heard.

And, of course, meeting anyone in the mining trade was always a fantastic time to invite donations, and he made sure to spend some time getting to know the owners at Comstock when he had the chance to speak to them.

Image

There was nothing all too glamorous about the Holiday Inn in Fallon, but that was somewhat the point. Politicians with their big houses and their palatial official residences had to confront the real world if they ever desired to conquer it, and as such, Prendergast brought himself to the quiet hotel in the quiet town of Fallon in Churchill County. A city with only around nine thousand residents, he’d made sure that his campaign staff could organize transport for interested activists - it was an hour’s drive from Reno, after all. But it fit the theme. The forgotten, the abandoned. He wanted them to know someone was going to speak for them.

”Good evening everyone, it’s been an absolute pleasure to come to Nevada, and it’s a pleasure to meet all of you, everyday Nevadans who work so hard and contribute so much to making America great. We owe a lot to you.

Today, I’ve gotten to see a lot. Men maintaining 1930s technology to keep huge swathes of our country watered and powered. Herding huge quantities of cows to put beef on our tables. Miners who do one of the world’s hardest jobs and do it proudly, earning an honest wage and pleasing God by their labors. Nevada truly is the Silver State, not just because of the actual silver that still comes out of the ground, but because it sets a silver standard for us all to abide by. Hard work, honesty and home.

You don’t let yourselves be defined by the casinos in Reno and Vegas. You carve your own path, with the sweat off your backs and a determination that is concrete. It’s that essence of Americanism that makes your state so attractive to me, and I’m proud to have met so many of you today.

As I have said so far in all the states I have visited, I’m not here just to spout my views. I’m here to listen. Everything I hear on the trail gives me insight into the ordinary America that Washington has abandoned, and if they won’t come to you, then I will, and I’ll take it to them to make them listen. So I hear you, Nevada. Let me get an insight into your issues.”

And so it repeated, as it so inevitably did. The microphone handed out to the people with their questions.

March 15th, 2019 Part 2

Ben Montgomery
John Burroughs Middle School
Los Angeles, California

"Hello! I'm sure that all of you are here to know what it's like to be the job that most of you are interested in hearing about. As you may know, I'm a politician, though I'm now of a Governor. Governor of this state of California. A bit surprising, as many of you expect me to look like a rockstar or celebrity or possibly some K-Pop idol. Though, appearances don't really matter when being a politician. What's important is that you're trying to tell others about our goal of doing the right thing in your own eyes. Now I'm currently in office, but one of the things you would need to do as a politician not in office is to campaign for it. There is a lot of ways for campaigning and doing it. Back then, we had to use posters and newspapers to get people interested in your campaign. However, in this age of social media, you can have people be informed with a click from a mouse or from a touchscreen."

Ben took a glimpse at the kids in front of him. They looked bored out of their minds. Maybe they were expecting him to give them some freebies. One kid was listening to Shakira with some airpods.

"Of course, our type of job gives us a bad rap from people. Not all of us are declared bad people for being a politician. The overall goal for us is to work for the greater good of the public. But, it's a hard job. Especially for the ones who only want to use the job for power. That's why some of us are trying to be most transparent towards the public. Honesty is one of the most important principles for a politician. Dishonesty can only lead to impotence. While my occupation isn't beloved among the other jobs that you are seeing, it's still important that the focus of my occupation is of most importance, as it is a state that I'm in control of. It takes great responsibility. Just like how Uncle Ben would say to Peter Parker. With great power comes great responsibility."

"As a politician who is in office, I get to make sure that this state is in tip-top shape. I make laws. I repeal laws. I support laws. I meet with other politicians like me. You just got to make sure that you win an election first. I'm sure you have class elections also. Your teachers may have taught you a thing or two about voting. It's simple for this state. Whatever you like to see in the office is the one you vote for. The one who gets the most votes, or the popular vote, as we like to call it, gets the office."

It was then a boy raised his hand, where Ben answered him. "Yes?"
"I have a question. Does it also apply towards if you want to be the president?"
"Well, you see I would like to talk more about 2016, however my own family would like to stray away from that topic. You see, for the presidential elections, even though I have no intention of running for president, is that getting the popular vote isn't going to make you president. Your actual votes are given to a group of people called the United States Electoral College. Basically, they are the reason that a president can still win even if they hadn't won the popular vote. I could tell you more about it, however I think that your world politics teacher might give you the full story."

"As I was saying. After you get elected, you got to make sure that you keep up with promises to the public. I'm currently working to make sure that I get the things that I promised off of my list. Once you made a promise on your campaign, you must be aware of it. Breaking a promise is something that can disgust many people based on what one had claimed to do. That's why many favor honesty. Of course, while many still want dream jobs, such as a police officer or even a doctor, just remember that you can also grow up to help your nation to make it a better place. Thank you."

Of course, Ben didn't expect the kids to clap because they were entertained. Ben did his speech, which he memorized two more times, until he was free to go. Outside, there was an average Hispanic man with some tattoos on his arm, wearing a white shirt and some black jeans. "Excuse me? Are you Mr. Montgomery?" the man asked him. "Yes. Who are you?"
"I'm Nacho. I left a voicemail."
"What are you doing here?"
"My kids go here."
"Right.. You're a friend of Dario?"
"Yes. Dario. He was a close friend of mine. I figured I can help ask you this."
"Explain it to me."

"Well.. I know we live in a state that provides support to many of us from the South. We appreciate it. But, the rest of my extended family wants to go from Mexico to California then out of the country to possibly east to the mid-states."
"You want me to figure out a way to get you people there without scrutiny."
"We want to go to New York, instead of Los Angeles. A brother of them is thinking people are getting violent. He was there when someone fired shots at that bowling alley shortly after New Year's."
"I was aware of that. It was on the news for a while."
"I'm just saying. I just need some help. I have no criminal records. I don't sell drugs. I'm trying to raise money as it is. Back at my country, a lot of people were getting poor."

"Mr..Nacho. I know you want to help your family, but I cannot help me immediately. Especially since I don't want to appear that I'm actively encouraging illegal immigration."
"Well, I know you don't encourage it."
"It's for the American Dream, I know. But it would be dangerous, if your family tried to leave California. Especially since most of America is on the red side and divided."
"What are they going to do in Los Angeles?"
"It's not Oakland. He was raised there and he told me how much he wanted to change it. The only solution I'm giving you is that you tried to try to get papers for the rest of your family first. I'm sure you can manage to get some paperwork. You can contact me again, but if any of your family is in real danger, do it only if it's an emergency. I don't want you doing anything risky. Do you understand?" Ben asked Nacho, where he nodded.

"I see what I can do. Garcia wants to visit where Orpah has her show. She likes to watch it."
"I'm a slugger who knows of the Windy City, but I worship the 49er culture of it. Don't expect to get to Chicago. It takes time."
"I understand. Thank you, Mr. Montgomery."
"You welcome." Ben Montgomery said to Nacho, before he walked away from the school to his car. When Ben got into the driver's seat, his aide George texted him something.

Ben, a lot of political presidential candidates, etc have been around the state. Also, people are starting to get impatient about your pipeline project. Get back to the office, so you can work stuff out with the papers. - George

Ben Montgomery knew George was talking about the desalination project to help with the water crisis in California, however he needed to know how it was going along. It was one of his promises to the public that he will tame the water crisis, but he had to get back to the upper state to see the updates on it.

"This was where I grew up," Jillian Dayton's voice said as the camera panned past her family home in Norfolk, VA.

"My mother, taught at the public school a few blocks away," she stood in the center of the road, "and my father served aboard the USS Nimitz and USS Arleigh-Burke across his career. I was the local public prosecutor here until I first entered Congress in 2007 where I aimed to fix local schools, roads and hospitals. In my time in Congress, I worked diligently across party lines to deliver results for my constituents. Everything from expanded public areas to the Affordable Care Act."

"In 2013, I ran for and won, the Governor's mansion in Virginia. As Governor I worked across the aisle with the Republican controlled Legislature, to deliver universal tertiary education access, medicaid expansion, targeted veterans healthcare, better public transport and shrunk the state deficit. In 2020, we're going to put Fairness First nationwide. Its time that our democracy works for all of us, not just the lucky few. Its time that our schools reflect the world's wealthiest nation in history, properly. Its time that big pharmaceuticals stop gouging ordinary Americans their annual income, just so that they can live. Its now the time to ensure that the next generation of Americans aren't just living, but they're thriving. I'll deliver cheap universal education. I'll deliver medicare for all who want it. I'll deliver an anti-corruption law that prevents politicians from being owned by lobbyists. Join my campaign, and let's put Fairness First."

Levi Murphy Campaign Stop
Clemson, South Carolina

Image

The campaign apparatus arrived in Clemson, in South Carolina. His first arrival was at a small cafe in the centre of town, he spoke with small business people from around the neighbouring towns, in an event the campaing called: "Business Breakfast". "What I'm hearing from many business people across this country, from Minnesota, to Iowa to South Carolina, is that retail is not doing well," Levi said to the gathering. "It's an imperative that people start spending more - to grow local businesses like yourselves - and we can start doing that by ensuring job security in this country." After his little stump speech, he went around and spoke to all of the patrons. There he discusses matters that were important to them, such as minimum wage laws, trade and the decline of manufacturing jobs. Buoyed with his first coffee of the day, he then went to his next location.

Clemson was mainly a college town, so Levi couldn't go without visting Clemson University. There he met with the local Levi 2020 College club. "South Carolina is important," he is seen talking to the young people gathered to hear him in a small room. "It has the largest amount of delegates, so if we're trying to build a coalition to win the presidency in 2020, we've got to win places like Clemson. That includes the African-American communities, who have felt left out, abandoned and with no home. It's true, people only talk about them when they're coming to get their votes. It's unfair, and I want to be part of the solution, not the problem." There, the campaign signed up many of the people for canvassing, door-knocking and fundraising, a key aspect to winning is the grass-roots and Levi was intending to build it ready for the South Carolina primary.

Next, Levi moved not so far away to Memorial Stadium, where the Clemson Tigers play. Clemson got the nickname of 'Tigertown' for their football team. There, on the green field, Levi was wearing the team colours. He took some shots at the goals, with the campaign team filming it. This would be posted on Levi's social media accounts. He spoke with some of the college players there, and the fans. He talked small chat with them, like telling them about his college football teams from home in Minnesota. "In 2020, we want to kick a goal for the working class of this country. As a Senator from Minnesota, I know how many Mid-Westerners went to Wolf, and I know how to win them back. Our diverse coalition is best positioned to beat any Republican they throw at us; whether that be Richardson or Prendergrast. To many, that is the most important aspect of 2020, and I will not fail the many millions relying on us winning the presidency back."

A woman in a flowery dress stood "We like many states are seeing a high rate of teacher turnover and high class sizes, what are you going to do to improve education and help retain teachers?"

Talk With Tim: Episode 1 - The Public Option

Hosted by Senator Tim Westra
And...we're live. Hey, it's me, Tim, and I'd like to thank everyone listening right now to our inaugural episode of Talk With Tim. This is a really exciting moment in American politics where politicians on both sides of the aisle are finding ways to directly communicate their message to the American people, and we have so many platforms to do that right now and it makes me excited about a new era of transparency in political discourse.

The idea of directly accessing constituents in presidential politics is, of course, not new. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, one of the greatest presidents in the history of our country, revolutionized how we converse with the people we serve when he started his Fireside Chats. It was a time of crisis, a time of uncertainty, a time of incredible hardship and destitution. But he managed to restore hope to everyday life with his authentic, sincere words in the evenings over radio.

Politics today lacks that authenticity, and part of what this campaign is trying very hard to do is restore a culture where compassion and empathy comes first. We live in a time where everything seems to be transactional, about getting results and what we can extract from each other. I hope that, if I have the honor of serving as your president, I'll be able to maintain a relationship of trust with you. Regular communication with Americans will be one of the ways that I will grow this relationship.

This podcast, it's going to be available on several platforms. You can obviously access it here on our YouTube Channel, or listen to it on Apple Podcasts, Google Play, or Spotify. The goal is to get past a lot of the noise that pollutes the mainstream media cycle and just speak candidly to our supporters and to people who don't support us yet. I also hope to speak genuinely about the issues that matter, and about interesting topics that impact our lives. On that note, I want to begin on today's topic, which is the public option.

Our minds normally jump to healthcare when we hear that term, but really a public option goes far beyond healthcare. I think there should be a public option for everything. And it sounds like a really simple idea, right? The idea that we increase competition, create healthier markets, and provide universal access to services through social programs that belong to the public. And on the right, when we talk about public services, we usually get slammed with the "socialist" label. I push back on that, vehemently. I push back on the socialism label simply because we've moved so far to the right in this country that when we talk about collective action on anything, right, politicians and pundits are like, "Well, that's socialism." No it's not. It's about providing people with basic access to things that they need to live a dignified life. Is it socialism to build roads? Is it socialism to make sure that the air is clean? I don't think it is. I just think that's good government because in the end, the whole point of government or people coming together is to act collectively in the best interest of all of us. That's what government is.

And if Republicans are truly capitalists, I just don't get why they have this incessant fear of public options. What are they afraid of? That businesses won't be able to compete? If they're afraid of competition, then I'm sorry, we're not living in a healthy, realistic capitalist system. We're living under crony capitalism and oligarchy.

So where do I think are some big areas where public options need to be created? Banking is one. In this modern age, banking services are a necessity, so it remains personally shocking to me that rural communities in this supposedly "developed" country oftentimes don't have access to banking. So I'd pass legislation to allow the post office to provide basic banking services, which is done in other countries around the world, even India.

Access to internet services in this day and age is becoming almost a necessity. Again, our rural communities remain disconnected from functioning broadband and WiFi. I think we need to have a public, possibly free, option for internet. This isn’t a pie-in-the-sky idea: Chattanooga, Tennessee, a city with a population of about 180,000, has had a public option for high speed internet since 2010, and today more than 100,000 residents and businesses take advantage of it. It works well and I think this kind of service will be a boon to our consumer-driven, small-business driven economy - an economy that is increasingly operating online.

A public option for childcare and pre-k. Childcare remains a necessity for the 96% of our country that is in the workforce, and especially to low-income workers employed in several jobs who need someone to take care of their children. People shouldn't be falling into traps where they can't afford basic needs, so they work longer hours, but then need child care to work those long hours, so they work even longer hours to afford childcare. I've released a plan to publicly fund childcare and work with nonprofits and private service providers to create a network of affordable public childcare.

There should be a public option for jobs! Currently, Americans in labor jobs are increasingly forced into the private sector, where wages remain stagnant and they remain underemployed. Our workforce's skills should be put to best use, and they should be provided with a good wage. My plan for a Federal Jobs Guarantee would provide workers with at least $15 an hour, would provide them with a job they actually want, and force private industry to compete by raising wages.

Public higher education is unaffordable, with students graduating with record levels of unjust student debt. I would finally make higher education a true public good by eliminating tuition fees at four-year public colleges. It is simply unacceptable that we are hoisting unsustainable levels of debt onto our student population's shoulders. I would lower interest rates, ensure the government doesn't profit one cent off of student loans, and cancel debt for low-income borrowers.

And finally, the idea we hear about a lot. The public health insurance option. My specific plan, Medicare for America, is the best plan, the most detailed plan, to provide universal healthcare to our citizens. It would automatically enroll the uninsured, making healthcare instantly universal, and would be free for anybody earning below 200% of the poverty line, with an 8% income cap on premiums. It would be very affordable for anyone using it, and would bring down premium rates in the private health insurance industry as well. This is a common sense solution; this is how other countries operate their healthcare systems and reach universal healthcare. But public services in healthcare won't be limited to insurance under a Westra Administration. We'll also bring down the price of pharmaceutical drugs by manufacturing generics. The actions of Big Pharma are simply unacceptable, and no more Americans will be rationing their meds in our America. My schizophrenic father, who was a bus driver, used to ration his meds; I know all too well how this can break a family.

So there you have it. An American economy where competition is healthier, where services are accessible, and where everyone is guaranteed a minimum standard of dignity with the establishment of public options. This is going to promote economic freedom and economic justice simultaneously, and our campaign sees it as the best way of directly combatting the unchecked greed of corporate America.

So, I thank you for listening to our first episode. More will follow in the coming weeks and months. If you're inspired by our message, and want to join us in taking on the political and corporate establishment, please visit our page online and join the team or donate. You can also read more about our plans to restore power to working Americans on our website. Thank you, and I'll see you on the trail.

WIN BACK THE WHITE HOUSE
Levi the Elect-able

"I appreciate the turn-out this evening, today I will make my case as to why our movement, our coalition, has the ability to win the White House in 2020 and beat whatever Republican they throw at us in the general election. Because, at the end of the day, what is the use of our activism, our ideals and our vision if we are unable to clinch the White House from the Republican Party, who under the tenure of President Wolf, tore this nation in half. When we look at what happened in 2016, we can identify where we failed as a party, and where we can fix from our mistakes. The first is - we need a candidate that people can believe in - hope. This is how Baharia won, we need to see where he succeeded and expand on it. In 2008, Baharia ran on a campaign more radical than the rest, pushing for real, trans-formative change. When I speak on the campaign trail, I speak of bringing positive change to the United States, to South Carolina and to the world. That's why I speak of universal college for all, Medicare for All, a Green New Deal and a better deal for working class Americans. I want people to believe in something, a reason for them to vote. Whether that be ensuring their family have full and free access to healthcare or a chance to get a good college education without breaking the bank. When you run on a message of hope, you win. That's what I will do.

You must also look at where many ex-Baharia voters flipped to Trump, particularly in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa .. we need to win these supporters back into the fold. They were tempted by the rhetoric of better trade deals, keeping our manufacturing here in America and stopping the endless regime change wars. Simply, we need to reach out to those voters and tell them the truth. Wolf, and the Republican Party failed you. That's what I will do. Where Wolf did rip up NAFTA, and thankfully so, he replaced it with his own, possibly worse trade agreement in the form of the USMCA. He's selling out working class communities with his dodgy, pro-big business trade agreements that will outsource your jobs to Mexico. And overall, more manufacturing jobs have left the United States since Wolf took office. That is only the beginning of his failures and betrayal to many. That's why I believe I am the most electable candidate for President of the United States: win back many of the people that thought Wolf would do something good for this country. They were mistaken, and we must win back their hearts and minds.

As a Senator from the Mid-West, I know what wins with many of these states that flipped to President Wolf. We need to beat the Republicans, anyone that they throw at us, and I will, if you do so elect me as your presidential candidate. We're going to flip Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Iowa and Florida to our side - we're going to win control over the Senate and usher in a new era of pro-working people politics, built on progressive ideals that overwhelming resonate with the majority of the people in this country. In 2020, we cannot risk people who could possibly lose, otherwise more people will be denied their food-stamps, more cuts to social services, while more and more money is being funneled to the top 1% in America. We can do better, and we can win. That is why I am the strongest candidate to win in 2020, the strongest candidate to lead the Democratic ticket and the strongest ticket to take down any Republican that tries to stand in our way."

Zadok Steinberg Estate, South Connecticut

Whilst Goldman was certainly a woman of the city, she found that, often, the countryside was a relaxing place. She had decided, however, rather than going to hike on a mountain or go to a national park, to take a walk around her great-grandfather's old estate. Mr. Zadok Steinberg - this Steinberg - was the owner of several banks in Konigsberg (his home city), Berlin, Paris, London and even New York. He was worth approximately $100 million in modern money in 1913, being the owner of this large banking business. During the war, however, due to his affiliation with the German government, he had many of his assets seized by American, British and French authorities, leading to him temporarily losing about half of his assets, which were recouped by the German government by the opening of extra branches in Dresden, Hamburg, Munich and Danzig, which allowed him to increase back to about $78 million at the end of the war. The London branch did reopen in 1921, but the rest did not until later on due to extreme suspicion by Americans and especially the French of the fact that he was not only German, but also a Jew, which caused him to remain in the Weimar Republic until 1932. In 1926, however, the New York branch reopened, along with new branches in Boston and Los Angeles, allowing him to spike to $150 million until the Great Depression came, leading to most of his assets depreciating significantly, only recovering to $70 million at the time of his death in 1938.

Of course, due to rising anti-Semite tides in Germany by one Adolf HItler, he emigrated to the United States in 1932 and settled in rural Connecticut on a peaceful estate, the ground of which was where Goldman stood. The estate, upon the middle, contained a tall and well-crafted statue of Zadok Steinberg, upon which Goldman was staring solemnly, almost as if she was about to tie herself to something greater, to condemn herself to embark upon a great and treacherous quest. She began to lower herself at it, kneeling as though she was praying. She began to think to herself, staring upon the statue, as though she were communing with her dead great-grandfather. She stood there, near motionless, for several minutes, as her very soul began to concentrate within her and spirits began to enter her mind. She felt a third eye open, as she was in extremely deep thought.

She stood there, not for mere minutes, but for nearly an hour, in full statis. She was within her very self, within her own soul. Deeper in thought than she ever was. She may have done it before, but this time was different. Last time it was all just for publicity. Last time it was all just for name recognition. This time, she knew what she wanted...

She wanted power, to do her duty to her country. She wanted a legacy, privilege and force. She wanted leverage, position and status. What her intentions were were irrelevant to her, only her course of action. That hour, of standing there, deep in thought, gave her an epiphany. She began to call her staff and her husband. The time had come. She wasn't just here for the publicity anymore. She was here...

For the Presidency.

Nathaniel Richardson
NBC 3 Las Vegas
03/15/2019

[img]https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/1d/KSNV_Logo.png[img]

Gillian: Good Evening and Welcome to NBC 3 Las Vegas nightly news, i’m senior political reporter Jeff Gillian and today I am joined by Governor and Republican Presidential candidate Nathaniel Richardson. Nathaniel Richardson is on the tail end of his second term as Governor of North Carolina and previously served as a member of the House of Representatives. Thank you for joining us Governor.

Richardson: My pleasure Jeff thank you for having me.

Gillian: I want to begin by asking about education, in Nevada today we have a seemingly systematic problem with teacher retention and by extension high class sizes. We are not the only state in the country with this problem… How would a potential Richardson administration aid states in retaining teachers and providing a better education for students?

Richardson: Being a teacher is tough as heck and doesn’t pay nearly well enough for teachers starting out. My education plan involves things like ESAs, an education savings account where parents can help customize their child’s education. Empowering parents lets them reward the best schools providing the best education and by extension the best teachers.

We need to reward the teachers who are innovating and the schools which are prioritizing teacher quality and general efficiency. Right now we have far too much waste and handouts to teachers unions that reward union officials instead of the people actually teaching classes.

Gillian: The most thriving regions in the country seem to have an excellent transportation infrastructure. What would you do to support upgrading and repairing our country's infrastructure?

Richardson: Our nation’s crumbling roads and bridges are shameful, and the fact that Congress couldn’t get its act together to tackle something that is universally acknowledged as an absolute necessity. In my administration we would move forward on this in a number of ways.

Firstly we reform the excessive regulations and permitting process that is weighing us down. The United States is ranked 15th out of the 33 OECD countries for ease of permitting, its cost businesses hundreds of billions every year and perhaps more importantly time. The paperwork, bureaucrats, the army of lawyers… smaller companies can’t compete for projects because of the burden, and the only jobs it creates are lawyers. Even President (Not Obama) admitted that his “shovel ready jobs were not as shovel ready as expected” due to regulations, which he then granted over 170,000 exclusions for to get the stimulus moving. Why should only certain companies and projects get those exclusions? The government should not be picking winners and losers. And furthermore the government has a long history of blowing it when it comes to big projects, California’s high speed rail, Alaska’s Bridge to nowhere… happens again and again.

Top-Down, tax and spend approaches are not good policies, they are ineffective, politically driven and wasteful. If Americans want the most bang for their buck we need to lead with regulatory reform. Then we reform spending, specifically the Highway Trust Fund which receives revenue from the gas tax and takes 28 cents on the dollar for non highway projects when it should be used to maintain roads and bridges. Spending and regulatory reform for our transportation department can generate around a trillion in new investments from the private sector not to mention the properly allocated billions in the Department.

Gillian: Nevada has offered hundreds of million in tax abatements to companies such as Tesla and Apple to induce investments in the state and diversify the economy? Do you believe in corporate tax breaks to create economic growth and create jobs?

Richardson: As I said earlier the Government shouldn’t be picking winners and losers, ultimately it’s up to individual states and municipalities but in a very general sense I think it’s a better investment to lower the overall tax burden rather than giving individual handouts. Now diversification of a state’s economy is essential to its health and sometimes a state or a country needs to make a conscious effort to move in a different direction but that should always happen with as little government intervention as possible and in the most general way they can. Offering a tax break to any company in a certain field rather than trying to get individual ones. This also benefits small businesses and entrepreneurs more as startup likely don’t have the kind of lobbying power Amazon, Tesla or Apple have.

Gillian: Nevada has a large Hispanic population, many of them immigrants. As President, how would you move forward on immigration policy?

Richardson: We need merit based immigration reform, our system right now is full of fraud and abuse, it’s overloaded and the people with actual legal claims to enter the country aren’t able to get through. And then we have the Dreamers who are Americans in all but name and should have a path to full American citizenship

If I could waive a magic wand and create a new system from scratch it would be modeled on Canada and Australia who allow individual provinces to request immigrants with different skill sets. Nevada has a huge ranches and needs workers with experience dealing with livestock. They can ask for a number of immigrants with the relevant experience based on need. Those immigrants would need to stay in the state and in that field for a set period of time before being allowed to apply for citizenship or move states. If the state gets the number wrong or loses track or a portion of the immigrants then they would be penalized in the number of immigrants they can request in future years.

I believe immigration is in general one of our country's greatest strengths, but that doesn’t mean we blindly let everyone cross the border. Tens of thousands of children get trafficked across the border into sex slavery every years, we have gang violence and people coming into communities where jobs are already scarce. We have a right to protect and monitor our borders, and to make sure we are taking the right number of people in with the in demand skills.

Gillian: Polls consistently point to healthcare as the chief issue of the election, and it played a key role in democrats retaking the house in 2018. What are the next steps for healthcare in the country?

Richardson: I am very proud to have spearheaded healthcare reform in the past few years in my state. I worked across the aisle with the legislature to create Carolina Choice Care, which is patient centered, consumer focused, market based and is steadily reducing costs across the board. I’ve gotten bi-partisan healthcare reform done, it wasn’t easy but its working. I am the only person in this race on either side of the aisle who can say that.

You want to reduce costs… well the ACA gave the government much more control of healthcare and we heard it was supposed to cut costs by thousands... I don't know about you all but my health insurance cost nearly doubled, especially factoring in co-pays and deductibles. CCC created more competition and less government controls, empowering consumers, and that’s why prices are going down.

We should let consumers pick from a wide array of options, direct primary care, short term plans, catastrophic coverage, or cadillac coverage. Everyone getting government dollars for healthcare gets to choose how to use those dollars instead of a government bureaucrat. The ACA has a structure that gives insurance companies control over subsidies which allowed them to raise prices. Giving the money directly to consumers will allow them to pick the quality private coverage of their choice.

Gillian: Thats all the time we have, thank you Governor.

Richardson: My pleasure

@GoldmanConnecticut

Those who insinuate that we need to "Make America Great Again" aren't patriots, because they act as though America isn't great or isn't powerful anymore. They have the gall to call people like me and the rest of the Democrats unpatriotic, but it is them who have no faith in this country. It is them who are unpatriotic, not us!
