The New World Union | The History of the Region: The 1848 Standard (OOC; NWU Only)
Context
Disclaimer: This history brings nations up to what has been coined as the 1848 Standard, and simply changes their histories to conform with that. It does not result in the change of actual nations. Everything before 1848 occurs as with the real world. Credit to The Democratic Nation of Unovia for the "1848 Standard" name.
This forum topic will serve for all members of the NWU to discuss and decide upon a new and coherent regional history. People will sometimes not get their way. Some people will have to make compromises. But that is important to serve for a more coherent and well-defined history. This topic will also serve as to outline new RP regulations, however I will discuss these more on the RMB at a later date. I have also included below what I believe is a decent history whilst still maintaining some more realistic events. Apoligies to those that are not included but realism is realism. Furthermore this timeline will only include major events so new nations can easily nestle into this history and easily feel at ease.
Many older members of the region may already know that this project has been attempted five times previously and all have failed. So, they may be wondering - why is this different? After discussing with newer members and older members such as UAF himself and Unovia I am trying to make feedback and discussion the major point to make this succeed. Instead of simply posting a history and saying "take it or leave it", I am using the NS forum as a platform to allow people to suggest changes and compromise. I also believe that this should be a lengthy process, and should span over at least several weeks.
A new coherent history should be a number one priority for this government - a history that everyone can follow but that is still flexible enough to allow people to slot in easily builds for a more community-driven region and also creates topic for discussion and people to express there ideas. This currently is just an Earth-based timeline.
If people have been missed out this is because this is purely a rudimentary baseline, and serves as a platter for people to add their histories onto this in a realistic sense. Assume that anything not directly mentiond plays out as it does in the real world.
My timeline of Major Events - Prototype
1848
The nationalist uprising in both the German Confederation (a loose alliance of around 40 kingdoms and duchies of German-speaking nations) and the Papal States leads to the creation of both the Roman Republic and the German Empire, as in the real world. However, unlike the real world, the shockwaves of these rebellions are so detremental that the German Empire and Roman Republic remain and unify both the German-sepaking regions and the Italian Peninsula respectively.
1849
The Austrian Habsurg Empire collapses due to the continuation of these 1848 uprisings and the major powers of Europe, such as the Ottoman Empire and the Russian Empire rush to fill the vacuum of power. Hungary becomes its own independent kingdom, Austria and Bohemia fall under German Rule, and Bosnia becomes a Ottoman client state. Wallachia and Moldavia become to Balkan Confederation under Russian protection.
1854
The Eureka Rebellion in the British Colony of Australia sparks a wildfire of uprisings in Australia and the United Democratic States of Australia is born - however three weeks into its foundation the name is changed to "Unovia" under its first constitution to shed any signs of British rule.
1865
New Zealand officially secedes from the British Empire to unite with Unovia.
1881
The Panama canal was built by Mexico, not the U.S, as Mexico controlled the territory.
1911-1915
With the absence of Austria-Hungary World War One is instead caused by the Agadir Crisis of April 1911 (also referred to as the Second Moroccan Crisis) where the German Empire and France competed for colonial influence over Morocco. The Entente and the Central Powers would exist in largely the same form, with the Balkan States freeing themselves from the Ottoman Empire during the conflict and joining the Allied Powers. With this the Russian Communist Uprising occurs in the Winter of 1915, two years earlier, due to war weariness and the fatal state of the Russian masses, and Russia backs out from the conflict two months before its closure. Germany, the Ottomans and Bosnia faught against Britain, France, Unovia, the Roman Republic, the Balkan Confederation of Wallachia and Moldavia, the Japanese Empire, and from the beginning of 1915 the United States of America.
1915
The Treaty of Paris redraws the borders of Europe. The Roman Republic officially is regranted Savoy, and the State of Bohemia (similar to the Czech Republic minus the Sudetenland) is declared an independent state away from Germany. Poland, the Ukraine, Latvia, Finland, Estonia, Lithuania and Byelorussia (Belarus) all become independent states. Unovia is also granted German New Guinea and Japan is granted Manchuria from the collapsing Russian Republic to prevent it from sucumbing to communist rule. Yugoslavia is also made an independent country - combining Serbia, Bosnia and Croatia, however the Balkan Confederation quickly begins pushing for Balkan unity.
1917
The Ottoman Empire is officially dissolved and the Republic of Turkey is founded the Treaty of Istanbul also makes Iraq, Syria, Palestine and Jordan become British and French mandates as they do in the real world. The League of the Sincerity of Nations (L.o.S.N) is also founded in November. The Treaty of Kyev also defines the borders between the new Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (commonly referred to as the "Soviet Republic of Cherkasov, as it was proclaimed in the town of Cherkasov) and the Eastern European states.
1918-1919
The Mexican Empire, which also in this world controls much of Mesoamerica, begins to crumble under a series of seperatist riots and rebellions. Sighting this, the Roman Republic signs the Rome Concordance, where Mexico becomes a LoSN Mandate of the Italians.
1923
The Russian-Byelorussian War begins, lasting three months. It concludes with a Russian victory and the annexation of Byelorussia. This is frowned upon by the League, and moral sanctions (sanctions which internationally condemn Russia) follow.
1926
The Kellog-Briand Pact enforces the Treaty of Paris that came before it, and gives the province of Trieste, previously Germany's only access to the Adriatic Sea, to the League of the Sincerity of Nations as a Free City. Large reparations also follow.
1928
The Beginning of the Great Depression.
1929
With Adolf Hitler achieving a successful career in landscape painting, the Volkist movement takes sweep in Germany and on Christmas Eve of 1929 the Germanic Reich is declared, being the apparent third of its kind. It has staunchly anti-Semitic policies, militarist intentions and also traces its routes back to pagan Germanic tribes. Konrad Henlein, leader of the Volkist Party, becomes Chancellor and then Fuhrer.
1931
Volkist Germany attempts to march on Trieste but is halted by a mixture of Roman and British troops. Economic sanctions follow. The Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic also reforms into the Cherkasovian Soviet Union, named after the town of its origin, absorbing Finland and Estonia. Again, harsh economic sanctions follow from the League.
1932
The Japanese Empire signs the Treaty of Nanjing with the crumbling Republic of China. Much of the Chinese mainland is annexed by Japan and China becomes a Japanese client state. The League ignores this, fuelign more resentment to Volkist Germany and also the Soviet Union.
1934
The Roman Republic leaves the League, opting for an isolationist route.
1935
The United States leaves the League.
1937
The Soviet Union and Germany sign the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, with the same clauses as in the real world. Germany also signs a non-aggression pact with the Roman Republic.
1938
Germany and Cherkasov invade Poland and the Ukraine, with the League helpless to stop it. Britain and France are to distracted by economic turmoil and their own self interest. The Balkan Confederation also annexes Bulgaria and North Macedonia, declaring the Kingdom of the Balkans in October that year. Britain and France guarentee the safety of Lithuania, Latvia and the Netherlands and Belgium. Greece also votes to become a member of the Roman Republic, trying to avoid annexation from the Balkan Kingdom.
1939
The Fall of France. Germany uses a new tactic known as Blitzkrieg, or Lightning War, and France falls within six weeks. Britain immediately declares war on both Volkist Germany and the Soviet Union, as does Japan, Unovia, and the rest of the British Empire.
1940
Germany annexes Denmark and Norway, despite limited British naval presence. Cherkasov attempts to invade Mongolia but is ultimately pushed back to around 20 miles of the border. Here, the People's Government of Mongolia is formed. The rest of the Baltic States also sucumb to the Red Menace. However, the Balkan Kingdom is failing to ward off attacks from the Adriatic Sea from Britain and the Free French. In November the Volkstaat of France is formed as a puppet government of Germany; this is the same for western Poland and the Netherlands.
1941
Japan begins pushing the Red Army back into their own territory. Josef Stalin initiates Order Number 227, famous for its line "Not one step back!", and a huge war of attrition begins. Japan is aided by Unovian troops, however, who take much of the Dutch East Indies to prevent them from being used by the German Reich. On the 21st of August the American Senate votes to declare war on Germany and does so on the next day.
1942
The Change of the Tide. Germany is pushed back to its own border after the successful D-Day landings and celebrations occur in London and Paris. Meanwhile, much of the red army surrenders and pushed further back into the Siberian winterland. However, the Japanese forces choose to remain near the Mongolian border to avoid the extreme Russian winters. By December the Allied Forces reach Cologne.
1943
Germany officially surrenders on November 3rd as General Dwight D. Eisenhower begins the "Counter Blitzkrieg" campaign, which imitates the crushing strategies used by Germany in its early successes in the early stages of the Second Great War.
1944
The Soviet Union surrenders after Stalin commits suicide in the Kremlin in April. The Treaty of Washington ensures that such a massive conflict would never happen again. Konrad Henlein and the rest of the Volkist party are put on trial for major war crimes after the public revalation of the massive concentration camps that exterminate the Jewish population in Europe. Several high-ranking Soviet officials also appear in the Nuremburg Trials. Despite dividing Germany into several occupation zones, the Treaty of Washington also is viewed by many as much to lenient to the Germans and the Reds, with the Germans being granted back the Trieste region and being permitted to keep much of their Polish territory. The Soviet Union also remained territorialy intact Many today blame the many socialist sympathisers in the American and British governments at the time, and Japan at the time of the Treaty was pushing for harsher measures. The Balkan Kingdom was consumed by communist uprisings, reportedly funded by Cherkasov, created the Worker's Republic of Balkoslavia. The Netherlands and France also divide Belgium between themselves in the Treaty of Brussels.
1944-1946
The Spanish Civil War happens between Loyalist forces and the current Second Spanish Republic. The Second Spanish Republic wins and reforms into the New Spanish Republic, leaning closely to the Soviet Union.
1945
The eastern Allied occupation zone had a socialist uprising during May. American and French troops attempted to move in however Soviet troops occupied the zone beforehand. This almost lead to the beginning of World War Three, however the Frankfurt Summit agreed to grant the Soviet Union the eastern occupation zone to both cater for the socialist tendencies of the east German regions and to also apease the Soviet Union. This Summit did not include the United States, bizarrely, and this is considered to be the beginning of the Cold War. Berlin is also divided into East and West Berlin.
1946
Turkey "votes" to become a part of the Soviet Union. India also declares independence from Britain. The United Nations is also formed.

1949
In May the Allied occupation zone was unified into the Federal Republic of Germany. Responding to this, Cherkasov reformed the eastern occupation zone into the German Demcocratic Republic in October. NATO was also founded this year, containing the US, UK, France, West Germany, Portugal. More join over the years but France leaves in 1966.
1947-1963
The decolonisation effort in Africa and Asia commences. It ends up as it is in the real world, with minor changes. This include Egypt and Sudan being one nation, and also Somalia remains divided between Somaliland and Somalia. Zanzibar and Tanganyika also remain seperate states. Due to the larger number of competitors, technological development is rapidly accelarated and the US is first to land on the moon in 1964, after the Sputnik is shot into orbit in 1957. The nations involved constantly shoot rockets up to the moon, however three lives are lost in the British Windsor V mission in 1976, as the spaceship blows up during take off.
1973-1974
Britains votes to not join the European Economic Community. However, Portugal and the New Spanish Republic do.

Mass insurrections in Cherkasov result in the proclamation of the Cherkasovian Federation, and Canada - independent since 1964, joins the United States as a Special Autonomous Commonwealth. Germany reunifies after the fall of the Berlin Wall. The Warsaw Pact is also dissolved.

2020-2024
The Global Economic Collapse occurs. Over the space of four years, the global economy completely tanked. The EU completely fell after a fight broke out in the Brussels EU commision and the "Germanexit" - Germany leaving the EU. America was left in ruins, with the Buring of the Senate in 2021. In 2022 first contact with Alien races occured - with the Yitorian race scoping out Earth for scientific reasons.
2027
Many alien races and nations from beyond the stars, noticing the crumbling state of earth's populous, formed the Confederation of Galactic Alliances, and Earth's already suffering population were awoken by the sound or air raid sirens and sci-fi looking alien craft landed in various locations. By 2034, various alien races had landed and set up colonial possessions on Earth, including the Decepticon Cybertronians, the Guru peoples, the Clans of Sylvania, the Omnican species, the Hordes of the Locusts, Carcharod species, and the Cradon Accord. Later on the space empire of the Imperium of Man aslo made a colonial holding in the divided Middle East.
2032
The Galactic Concordance is signed between the United Nations and the Galactic Alliances. It gave concessions of Earth's territory to the many galactic nations in return for the Solar System to become a neutral system. During this time the Unified American Federation, Democratic Federation and the British Empire also at this time began space colonisation.
2037
Mass riots yet again in Germany followed suit after the Galactic Concordance and resulted in Adolf Schneiderick being elected Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, and later became the Supreme Chancellor of the Germanic Fourth Reich.
2042
The Germanic Fourth Reich invades Norway, and, despite condemnation from both the Cherkasovian Federation and UAF, the United Nations Security Council saw it as a lawful and "peaceful" invasion.

The Reich attempts to invade Poland, but this time is invaded by the Unified American Federation and the Free Powers, beginning the Third World War. Adolf Schneiderick was arrested by the German police force, who mutinied against the Reich. The Reich was dissolved on the 23rd of January and the German Federation was formed. Adolf Schneiderick agreed to be President until 2050, when an election would occur. However, this would only be turned on its head when Schneiderick attempted to invade Yemen and Oman which began the Oil Wars. This saw Adolf Schneiderick and 20'000 of the most fittest Germans escape into space. The atomic bomb known as "Batman" was dropped on Berlin.
2049
The Republic of Balkoslavia, a flourishing democracy in eastern Europe, was reformed into the Balkan Empire.
