I didn't know what to put in Max skill so I put Vilita's KPB ranking?

The team names should actually go in the "Participant" column, or your result will look like this: (Team A) 0–2 (Team B).

Otherwise, you're correct, typically the max skill is the highest-ranked team in whatever rankings system is being used.

I've been working on a Formula 1 scorinator and figured I'd gauge interest here to see if it's worth idiot-proofing (no offence guys!). Unlike most scorinators, particularly racing ones, this excel workbook has been balanced quite heavily so the best cars do well and the poor cars don't. I've tried to make it as realistic as possible.

Tracks are given an overtaking rating, which makes cars changing positions less likely depending on the circuit (think Monaco compared to Monza). The race start shuffles the order ever so slightly, and there is a chance of a multi-car pile-up (as shown in the example race below). The rest of the race is split into 8 segments, and if there's a car retiring for any reason in that segment a Virtual Safety Car come come out (just like any incidents during the race start). If a VSC is present, there is no overtaking during that segment of the race which spices things up slightly and helps with any RP'ing of the race.

The game rates the cars in two attributes - Drag and Downforce which get used as multipliers for each track. Drivers are rated in speed during races and qualifying, as well as lap consistency and race starts. Cars also need to use an Engine supplier that gives them extra oomph and a reliability rating to go along with it.

The game spits out three practice session classifications, as well as Qualifying and Race.

Here's a sample of the Q+R results at a track with a rating of 15 out of 20 for overtaking (meaning it's very hard to overtake):

Can I get some Scorinator recommendations for a Formula-E-type series? Would like to avoid Excel if at all possible.

If you really don't want to use Excel/Google Sheets, your only real choice is xkoranate, which has an auto-racing feature. But it doesn't track scores across races unlike the excel/sheets ones, and is a lot less customisable.

Since MacOS Catalina is now out, I think it should be noted here that the Mac version of Xkoranate DOES NOT WORK AT ALL on Catalina (because it is a 32 bit app and 32 bit support has been discontinued). I have not tested whether Wine can run the Windows version on Mac yet but it does work on Linux. If you use a Mac, you should probably check to see if you can get Windows xkoranate to run under Wine before upgrading. If you can't get Wine to work then you may want to wait to upgrade your Mac until there's a new version of xkoranate depending upon how important running xkoranate on your Mac is to you.

Baseinator 1.3 is out now. You can download it here (Source). The major changes are the addition of home field advantage, a change to the constants to reduce randomness and a change to the scorinate x home and away games option. The change allows for the scorination of x games with the Team A followed by x games with Team B at home (as opposed to alternating home and away which was the only option in earlier versions). This option was added for the purposes of this WBC.

There's also a change to the license which was done for the sake of making the license explicitly compatible with the GPL as I realized that the license I released my scorinators under is likely not GPL compatible. This will be applied to all of my scorinators whenever I release new versions but anybody wishing to include the code for any of the existing versions of my scorinators in a GPL-licensed scorinator is welcome to do so.

I have this error happening.

https://prnt.sc/piaz7d

When sorting teams by skill, 10s, 100s and 1000s are placed together. Xkoranate is reading teams with skill in the 1000s like teams with skills in the 100s. And they're being beaten by teams in 500s, 600s.

I noticed it happens when I export teams from a .txt file, but not when I add the teams manually. I already tested exporting .txt in different codings, like UTF-8 and ANSI.

What can possibly be wrong?

It looks like those values are being stored by xkoranate as strings rather than doubles. That means they're being stored internally as text rather than decimal numbers. When sorting numbers stored as text in a computer, 1343 is sorted before 135 alphabetically because 4 is less than 5 and strings are sorted by comparing 1st character to 1st character, 2nd character to 2nd character and so on (numbers compare the entire number).

How many matches are you running between those teams at a time? Is your max skill set to the skill of whatever team has the highest skill? There's a big difference between 3 or 4 fluke upsets in a row (which is statistically possible and thus not convincing evidence of anything being wrong) and an upset happening over 50% of the time in 1000 scorinations (which should be so unlikely as to be effectively impossible).

If you run 1000 scorinations and get the upset over 50% of the time, first check the min skill and max skill. If they're set up correctly, just run the 1000 scorinations a second time. If the same effectively impossible thing happens twice, there's a bug.

I saved the AFRO-CHINA file on my computer and now it wont open due to a specific (error code -43). Any advice?

Never mind, it seems you can open a file from Xkoranate and not Finder.

As Xkoranate was released under the GNU General Public License (GPL), which makes it free and open source software that anybody can modify (with that caveat that, if you distribute modified versions of Xkoranate, you are required to release your source code), and as its now been around 2 months since a MacOS update broke compatibility with the most recent version of Xkoranate with no sign of a new version from Commerce Heights, I have started a GitHub repository for Xkoranate Community Edition, a collaborative project to continue development on Xkoranate.

Currently, there are 2 commits to this repository. The first is the unmodified source code for Xkoranate 0-3.3. The second consists of a number of small modifications I made to compile Xkoranate using Qt 5.7 on my Linux computer. A third commit adding in various sports files I've created over the years is forthcoming whenever time permits. A working 64 bit build of Xkoranate for MacOS is also extremely high priority.

Contributions from everybody are welcome. For the moment, I will have final say regarding whether changes are incorporated into future versions of Xkoranate Community Edition. Reviewing my own changes and informing me of any errors is also encouraged. If you're not able to contribute code or sports files, feel free to create "issues" on the GitHub repository for any bug reports or feature requests or (if you don't feel comfortable using GitHub) bring them up here and I'll see to it that an issue gets created.

My IT skills are below par, to say the least, so I'd like to give a big thanks to FFR for taking it upon himself as a project to ensure that Xkoronate can continue to be used. Many of us use Macs, and for those of us who don't(like me!), I'm sure this will come in handy for us soon enough.

If there's any scorinator changes/adds I'd like to suggest(though I understand completely that these are low priority), I'll put up 3.

#1 Basketball scorinator, home court advantage- I think home court advantage is a big factor in basketball, and I know it isn't in the current formulas. It would be nice to have it in there, and then for basketball competitions on the boards we could make that matter more ICly as well since it is reflected in the scorinator

#2- Baskebtall scorinator, NBA scoring- Now of course, we know how players in the NBA bomb away from deep. I know that FFR adjusted the formula for American football(post WB-XXXI formula) to create more scoring. I am wondering if we could adjust the formula similarly to create more scoring, so we have scores that look more like NBA scores, for the basketball scorinator?

#3 Quidditch Scorinator- I know we have various quidditch scorinators floating around. I know this is a fairly low priority as well, but adding that to Xkoronate would be beautiful.

I understand that these are not top priority, but I think it would be a good improvement to Xkoronate if we can add them, since this seems to be the time & moment for suggestions.

Thank you for doing this for the community; you've already done so much, so it's amazing to see you continually go above & beyond towards making doing this possible.

With the caveat that I'm, clearly, no longer active, I wonder if it would be possible to make home field advantage a variable that could be adjusted by the user? Whether that manifests itself in a sliding scale (none, small, medium, large, overwhelming, &c.) or an actual numeric scale, I don't know, but I think it would be interesting to be able to see how home field advantage could affect narratives. For example, I was ruminating about a league with near-Nigerian-level home field advantage before I stopped (& I wouldn't be entirely honest if I said I didn't still think about the idea every now & then). I was wondering: would something like this be a reasonable addition, or is it really not worth the time & toil just to add a brand-new feature that might not even be widely used?

Busoga Islands wrote:My IT skills are below par, to say the least, so I'd like to give a big thanks to FFR for taking it upon himself as a project to ensure that Xkoronate can continue to be used.

I concur with the sentiments of my friend, and commend FFR for leading this project to improve the Xkorinate files for the benefit of the entire community.

I agree with the idea that home court advantage in basketball plays a factor to an extent even larger than it does in American football & Association football.

I feel that there should be a clear divide between basketball formulas for professional & college competition. The difference in game length/structure--4 quarters vs. 2 halves--and the additional length between NBA (48 mins) and WNBA, men's & women's college basketball (40 mins) brings a lot of variables into play:

Women
FIBA/WNBA/WCBB all have 4 ten minute quarters with the the NCAA shot clock 30 seconds and the others a 24 second clock

Men
FIBA 4 ten minute quarters, 24 second clock
NBA 4 twelve minute quarters, 24 second clock
NCAA 2 twenty minute halves, 30 second clock

So, roughly speaking, based on possessions per team, you get the following average team scores (based on a 1.2 pts/possession scoring rate):
NBA--86.4
M/WFIBA/WNBA--76.8
WCBB--74.4
MCBB--72.0

I tend to believe that it is an important factor in ice hockey as well, given that there are playing rules built into the sport that favor home teams, but I do not have any experience whether the current formulas address this.

Would it be possible to include links to the latest versions of scorinators in the OP of one of the pinned topics?

I'll get on it. If someone can provide me a few links to the relevant ones that'd be great.

I've updated the factbook in my sig.

On a somewhat related note, I'm aware that its been about a month since I've done anything on Xkoranate-CE. I haven't forgotten about it and will try to spend some time on it soon.

VSS Free is an incredibly simple and easy web based scorinator for one-off friendly matches or small competitions that don't require a separate program to run them

Note it works based of KPB Points, not ranking number (So rank of 50 is better than rank of 1)

The knockout round version is here:

Aha. I'd forgotten about that factbook. I've updated the OP of the Guide to Sports Roleplaying with the link to the factbook.

Cheers all.

How to change the way the results are displayed in NSFS

Postby Mantovanian » Fri Jan 24, 2020 6:47 pm

When you simulate a league in NSFS3, you get results like "Belgium 1-0 Brazil". Is there a way to change it into "Belgium 1 x 0 Brazil"? It's just a matter of switching "-" to " x " with spaces in both sides, but I can't find anything related to this in the codes. I know it sounds weird but it would make it way easier for me to import the results to Excel from the .txt file the program creates.

Not sure if that would be possible, you might need to change the source code itself for that to happen.
However, there are workarounds available. You may need to install Notepad++ for the job.

1. Copy the results from NSFS or xkoranate and paste it in the application.
2. Click Search->Replace (or CTRL+H when in Windows) to open the dialog box for replace.
3. Put the '-' in the 'Find what' section and put ' x ' in the 'Replace with' section.
4. Click 'Replace All'.

All the match results should now appear with the ' x ' in the notepad.

In a text editor (like, say, MS Notepad on PC or Notes on Mac) you should have the option to do a find-and-replace. Try to replace all instances of '-' or '–' with ' x '. Pressing ctrl+f should bring up the find/replace menu.

Thanks, will do it!

Hey I'm new to Xkorinate and I was trying to do a group -> knockout tournament and ran into some trouble, and wasn't able to find answers on the NSwiki. 1) Is it possible to setup multi-step tournaments like the one I described? 2) Are knockout tournaments possible? Thnaks to whoever answers and sorry if I seem stupid.
