Yeah I wouldn't say Fallout has been in decline since Bethesda acquired the franchise. Granted I only played 4 recently, but from seeing videos of 3 and New Vegas, I'd say the series was at it's best during 3, NV, and 4, the series only recently collapsed come 76. Maybe the series can pick up again with 5 in 2022 (that's my estimate) and if they can;t, then the series might very well be doomed to a legacy of failure from this point onwards.

The warning signs were there in 4 though, as the storytelling went to shit. The next one needs to move away from multiplayer and concentrate on the fundamentals.

Make you wonder how much RPG there going to be in Starfield going on how much of it was in FO4.

I think after the mildness of Fallout 4, into the disaster that was Fallout 76, everyone will be looking at Bethesda games with a lot more skepticism from now on.

Another problem with F4 is that it is a lot more difficult to make mods for. Much of the extended life of F3 and NV is owed to the modding community. The next iteration needs to be a lot easier to make mods for.

If it was easy to make mods for Fallout 4 then Bethesda wouldn't be able to sell mods.

The surprising part of that was that they couldn't fit a game around their monetisations.

That said, I wouldn't have ever called the Creation Engine "stable".
They had to basically redesign the way weapons work from the ground up just to get some passable gun play in Fallout 4. I think trying to weld multiplayer onto it might have been the straw that broke the engine's back.

That does seem to be the root cause of a lot of the problems.

Why doesn't Destiny 2 have Glory Kills? Like the Super Punch and Dropkick are good, but like can we just rip a Thrall in half or knee a Knight in the face?

No chance of FO5 any time soon. Starfield and ES6 are coming first (in that order), and we still don't even have anything approaching a release date for Starfield.

It's actually a good thing, as it will give them more time to reflect on where they went wrong before they make F5.

Assuming they don't double down on those mistakes in Starfield and ES6

But seriously this actually happened in my first playthrough after I helped the Railroad defeat the BoS attack. I took the shot. It took me 5 minutes of searching to find Deacon's remains. The leadership likely didn't even know what hit them.
