Decimalization occurred with the establishment of the new government following the Haventian revolution 45 years ago. Pre-decimalization units were 8 pars to the frust, 8 frust to the verdethaler. A modern 10 pars coin is colloquially known as a frust in reference to the old pre-decimalization coin that is no longer in production. Now almost completely obsolete is the term "vegran," used for the miniscule ¼ pars coin of old, which survives only in the expression "not worth a vegran" for something of no value.

Banknotes are printed on paper made from 75% cotton, 25% bamboo fiber, to maximize sustainability. Coins from 1 pars to 10 pars in value are minted from aluminum alloy 6063, containing 99% aluminum, 0.8% magnesium and 0.2% silicon, while coins of 20 pars and greater are minted of an aluminum bronze containing 92% copper, 6% aluminum, and 2% nickel.

Precious metals have not been used for circulation issues in nearly a century. At the time they were issued, copper or bronze was used for pars denominations, while frust and verdethaler quantities were of silver. In the distant past, gold was used for multi-verdethaler coinage. Modern bullion coins are minted as collectibles and commemoratives from the Haventia Mint. Silver Verdethaler coins are the most common commemorative issue, with a legal tender face value of 1 Ɣ and composed of 99.9 pure silver (balance copper). Special issue limited release collectibles are released in other metals, including 99.95 palladium (20 Ɣ face value), 99.999 gold (50 Ɣ face value), and 99.95 platinum (100 Ɣ face value).

The origin of the term verdethaler is not universally agreed upon. Thaler was a common term used for various coins in the region, deriving from the name of the town that first produced quality silver coins for exchange, but the "Verde" portion is not certain. The most popular view is that it derives from the name Verdant Haven, but this name had not yet entered in to use. It is entirely plausible that it is derived from the name of the Duchy of Verdancia (today's bailiwick of Verdanza), where it is believed they originated. Some scholars speculate that the name may have been ascribed to the coins by foreign traders, due to the unusual alloy of the higher value coins - a mix of 35% gold, 60% silver, and 5% other metals which yields the somewhat unusual color known as "green gold." It remains a subject of debate.
