Changing Times, Changing Heroes

“In academia, the trend of superheroes is generally broken down into multiple parts. Generations, they’re called. In a way, they’re like human generations that come with the passing of the decades. Each one being marked by differences from the others, and having their own attitudes and ways of going about things,” spoke the man at the front of the college classroom - a man who spoke as if he knew the subject matter like the back of his hand. The truth of the matter was that the man knew all about what he was saying thanks to having served as a hero himself… But that time was in the past. In a previous generation, actually.

His job had changed since then. It was to educate the current generation, the one that was growing up faster than what was comfortable. Soon enough, they’d be the ones making up the majority of the hero business. And while there was no need for him to come back and teach them, as he’d made enough profit during his time as an active hero to retire comfortably if he desired, he did it out of a personal desire to see them succeed. Not just because he was a thoughtful person, but because there was good reason to believe they wouldn’t succeed if they weren’t given help. They sure had a hell of a lot of things to worry about that hadn’t been on his mind back in the day.

The world had changed. People like him could only try to keep up with it and help out the ones who’d soon take the reins.

“The first generation of heroes weren’t really doing it out of the goodness of their heart… Metahumans appeared around the world following the start of the atomic age, and like every new thing that could present an advantage during the Cold War, both sides tried to make use of them. They say the first superheroes were artificial creations of these governments, usually used to foster the national spirit… Heroes like Captain Patriot and Red Star. But this artificial creation… Would turn into something much greater.”

He knew that as well as anyone. He’d seen the rise of the modern hero and participated in it himself, after all. “The second generation began after the public started to see superheroes as real icons. The idea was proven to work, the public caught on, and soon enough, having a team of heroes in your city was like having a sports team… And we saw a lot of new faces in this era. Everyone wanted to see ‘em come to their city and there’s only so many metahumans. Even less metahumans who want to take the plunge into a risky profession like this. The second gen might be the most familiar to you when you think of superheroes… They had bright outfits, simpler names, a tad more family friendly. It’s a past era. But it was a distinct one.”

“Out of the second generation, grew the third. The one that I can call myself a part of. The mid to late 80s to the 90s is when this generation kicked off and it’s been going strong ever since then. It’s either a blessing or a curse depending on who you ask. They say that this is when heroes went corporate, when sponsor logos started showing up on costumes and when things became a bit more cynical with mass media becoming a bigger thing around the world and getting its hands on the hero business,” the teacher continued with a chuckle. “But if you ask me, I’d say it did more good than harm. This career… These heroes… They’re bigger than they ever were, all because of this era. Put the news on. What do you see? Superheroes. Head to the movies, who do you see on the big screen? Superheroes. What’s the biggest competitor to Hollywood and the music industry? The hero business. I’ve also gotta say that with our bigger fame and larger reach, we’ve been able to help a lot more people...”

The teacher paused before turning his sights towards the students. “So, you might be wondering where this generation leads to. Well, the third generation is still going strong, but the fourth already exists and will take over eventually. The fourth generation is also right in front of me - it’s all of you who are training to become heroes, and some of your peers who have already made it. The fact of the matter is, there’s an entire generation of kids born after the turn of the millennium, and they’ve never lived in a world that isn’t as hyper-connected as it is now… The fourth generation is simply the third, taken to the extreme. No longer are heroes simply in the news. They’re on your Twitter timelines, with millions of fans following their careers down to the minute. They can say something once, and it will become a viral meme within a couple days. The business side of things is booming, and bigger than ever. Step outside and it’s superheroes that you’ll see on billboards, head to the store and you’ll see their faces on products, talk to your friends and you may just find that they’re already talking about hero news.”

“Heroes have been popular for a long time, yes,” the man said, pausing for effect. “But your generation might be the first to experience true ‘hero-mania.’ It’s not all good… Fame comes with expectations. Fame comes with millions of people following your life, whether you like it or not. With stalkers, lack of privacy, with dealing with publicists and PR agents and all kinds of stuff that old heads like me never had to bother too much with. These days, you can take out a top villain on the wanted list and still come out the loser because you ended up getting ‘cancelled’ for some post you made online at 1 AM while you were drunk…”

“Some of you won’t make it,” the teacher admitted. “And there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s a hard life. Not one for everybody. But on the other hand… I believe the greater challenges come with greater rewards. Never has a generation of superheroes been faced with as many challenges as all of you, on and off the field of combat. However, no other generation will have the same reach as you. I simply have one question for all of you to ask yourselves… How far are you willing to go to chase your dreams of being a hero?”

INTRODUCTION - WELCOME TO THE SHOW

After making it through that somewhat long introduction, you might be wondering just what this RP that you’ve stumbled into is… Long story short, it’s another superhero RP that focuses on a number of things but mainly, at least for now, the rise of the fourth generation of heroes and what the hero thing looks like in a universe where superheroes play a large role in society.

In some aspects it’s an action RP where you can expect deep fight scenes and tense back and forths between heroes and their counterparts from the villainous side, but wider things are explored such as interacting with the press and with the organizations that regulate and control superheroes, and the social aspects of young adults being quickly thrust into a position of fame and fortune, which also demands a lot of skill and responsibility. That’s not to say that you need to write 1,000 words about your character’s feelings or spend pages RPing social interactions without getting to see action, just that these aspects have an affect on the RP and will be accounted for in the storytelling.

While the main focus of the RP is indeed superheroes, and a specific subset of them at that, a world that’s intended to feel alive will of course have other things. You can expect certain arcs to feature other characters and give a chance to play them, at various points - ranging from biker gangs to cartels to netrunners and government agents. While superheroes are one of the central themes, their actions have an impact on a vast number of people after all - and other people still impact their lives.

The Setting

The RP takes place against the backdrop of the turn of the decade, but 2020 in Heroes LIVE is very different from the 2020 we know today - in some ways, anyway. Many things are indeed the same but there are some important differences, notably in the fields of technology. All the tech you’re familiar with still exists, but thanks to the presence of metahumans, some of which are super geniuses who double as skilled inventors, there’s also some other technologies that don’t exist in real life yet but do in the RP. Heroes can head around the world quickly using supersonic passenger aircraft, laser weaponry is entering the arsenal of regularly used firearms, advanced armor and cybernetics are capable of tanking damage, and AI is much further along and has the chance to either benefit or greatly harm the world. These are just some of the things to expect from the tech level.

The largest differences between our world and the world of the RP, however, are social differences rather than technological ones. Unlike real life, superheroes are some of the most well known and respected people around the world. They’re definite celebrities, and their adventures and exploits are followed by a media hungry for content. The position comes with some social regard, too - in a way, like being a rock star or a famous sportsperson might be in our world, but perhaps more prestigious. Superheroes put themselves in great danger, after all. It’s only natural that it comes with a high payoff.

Superhero fights have been somewhat normalized by their presence in the world since the atomic age, and so has the violence associated with them. The business of superheroes is a raw and unfiltered one, and it’s common to see the results of these battles in full clarity thanks to the influence of the internet and the press… That’s to say, fights between heroes and villains, or heroes and regular people for that matter, tend to be a bloody and dangerous affair which are many times fatal for one side. Furthermore, heroes are even encouraged to fight by a ravenous public which can’t wait to see more of their stars in action. The most popular aren’t necessarily the most effective, but the ones that appeal the most to the crowd.

In other words, superheroes take on the role of policeman, entertainer, gladiator, and attempt to balance all three - law and order must be maintained, PR must remain decent, and the crowds want to see fights and blood. It’s a demanding job without bringing personal issues such as adjusting to fame and getting along with teammates into the picture. Of course, this is also the age of information. Everyone has a camera, and everyone’s practically a journalist these days… It only takes one person to spread news about something on the metahuman scene, and only one person with a phone to reveal some grand conspiracy or urgent happening for heroes to look into. It is for this reason that the 2020s are different from the decades before them, especially when it comes to this field.

ARCS - STEP INTO THE SPOTLIGHT

As this RP covers various things within the same universe and roughly the same timeline, it’s been split into arcs to make things easier for players looking to join - or for existing players to keep track of which parts of the RP are relevant to their characters. Essentially, these arcs are self contained although some crossover between them may be possible depending on the circumstances. Each of them follows a different storyline which you can read about below. All characters should belong to one arc or another. There’s nothing fun about making a completely independent character who can’t interact with anything else in the RP thanks to not having connections with anybody.

Generation NEXT
Status: OPEN

Young adults getting thrust into the spotlight in the demanding hero business? Reality TV cameras thrown in to record their every move for the entertainment of superhero fans around the world? Surely nothing could go wrong with such a setup… This is Generation NEXT, produced by Team Infinity and the Hero News Network. Infinity is of course the largest and most important hero organization in North America - it employs tons of people, it runs some of the most important teams from New York to Los Angeles, and it has a global reach that extends into other countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, and South Korea. For a lot of heroes, making it into one of these teams, such as Infinity New York or Infinity London, is a longtime dream… And those who do well enough on this show will have a chance to make their dreams a reality.

The show only follows fourth generation heroes - that is, the ones that will take up the reins for the stars of the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s some day. Most heroes considered ‘generation four’ are 21 or under, and have grown up in the age of social media and the peak of the celebrity hero. The expectations on them are bigger than ever, they have to deal with new issues such as getting ‘cancelled’ and rising corporate involvement in the hero world, and there’s now cameras following them everywhere… And phone cameras, too, ensuring anything they do in public can and will end up broadcast to millions. The rewards in this age are greater than ever, though, and for the metahumans who get selected for the show, it’s the chance of a lifetime.

Sure, it does have its challenges - but the show also comes with free travel around the world as exotic locations are made into the show’s backdrop, from the streets of New York to the high rises of Hong Kong, and not many metahumans get a chance to fight criminals on television and earn the respect and adoration of millions of people in the process. Getting on this show is about the fastest way to get famous, and there’s plenty of room to move up in the Infinity organization for those who perform. Want to work with the top heroes in the world, the ones who are trusted to handle the biggest crises out there? The road starts here.

Roman Tragedy
Status: INVITE ONLY

Team Infinity isn’t the only one in the hero business. They’ve seen off competition from plenty of others in the past, but none like AuTech, the company led by the enigmatic Jon Audley, a charismatic CEO with an interest in the hero business and, seemingly, a grudge against the way Infinity does things. Audley has announced his own competing program, in the form of hero teams run by AuTech - and the first is Team Wave, AuTech’s counter to Generation NEXT. While NEXT has their show on the Hero News Network, Wave has theirs on HBO… While NEXT travels the world, Wave has an expensive and brand new team house in one of the party capitals of the country, Las Vegas. Infinity is practically America’s hero organization, but in AuTech and Team Wave, they have a true challenger.

But throwing together a number of the best young talents from around the world with loose rules and a carefree attitude doesn’t always make for a stable team situation - and the members of Team Wave will have to fight through a number of challenges to get what they want out of the team and out of life. Secret deals gone wrong, superhero scandal, parking lot shootouts, romantic clashes, war between cartels, and more can be expected from this epic of an arc which itself is based on a revival of earlier arcs for a new and deeper universe. Lines will be blurred, the sides of conflict will be shuffled up, and telling who’s a friend and who’s a foe won’t always be easy. This is, after all, a story of what it’s like to live and die in the city of Sin. But if you can hit 21 instead of going bust, the whole world will be in front of you…

WORLDBUILDING - THE WORLD OF HEROES LIVE

It’s not an RP without a world surrounding it and this one is no exception. With one of the aims being to make a universe that feels somewhat alive, some time has been spent fleshing out the background of the RP and just how that impacts our characters - superhero or otherwise. Hopefully, this section of the thread will do a good job explaining some of the aspects of the world of the RP that you should know about, and things that will be referred to in the future. Further lore will be linked below the first post, in an index.

The issue of metahumans is an interesting one… They appeared following the atomic age and no one is quite sure why they appeared when they did. Some say they’re connected somehow to the splitting of the atom but these days these theories are mostly dismissed as unproven and it’s realized that no one knows the full truth behind metahumans. It is known, however, that the difference between a metahuman and a regular human is the activation of a specific gene which scientists previously believed to be innocuous. This gene, dubbed Gene M by the scientific community, seems to dictate whether or not someone has powers. All humans have this gene but in the vast majority of the population, it sits dormant.

The signs of Gene M being active typically start displaying themselves around the time of puberty, but not everyone who has the gene will end up with the kind of powers that make for a superhero. Some have weak or mundane abilities - all of these ‘abilities’ of course, are outside of the natural norm, but some of them are more useful than others. Someone that’s able to deflect bullets and shoot lasers has a higher chance of becoming a hero than someone that has the ability to summon sheets of plywood on command, or some other bizarrely mundane power. With that being said, there are enough with relevant powers to make sure the world doesn’t run out of villains to cause trouble and heroes to stop them.

Gene M also has an effect on the body. It’s unknown exactly how it works, but the gene changes other things in someone’s development and generally makes them much stronger. This isn’t to say that superheroes are invincible or all have super strength by any means, but they have more strength and durability than the average person from the street and are able to take some damage from powered attacks or even firearms before going down in a fight… Generally, anyway. There are exceptions to every rule and there’s metahumans out there who are stronger or weaker than the average. This mutual durability is also one of the things that makes metahuman on metahuman combat a bloody affair that isn’t over immediately.

Treatment of metahumans varies depending on location but as a general rule, freer countries tend to grant equal rights to metahumans and treat them similarly to the rest of their citizens, although many keep a closer eye on them due to their potential to cause trouble, while more authoritarian nations generally use metahumans for their own ends in advancing the goals of their own regimes. While metahumans have more rights in western countries, certain government organizations do exist across the board that use them in one way or another for various operations - many of them secretive in nature and making use of the nature of certain powers to carry out goals that would be much harder for conventional operators.

Certain rural areas may have worse reactions to metahumans, however - in parts of the third world, they’re still connected to ideas about witchcraft and bad luck, and are persecuted accordingly. This tends to happen far out from major settlements, in areas where the scientific truth about metahumans and their origins hasn’t been spread far and wide yet. On the other hand, many urban metahumans and those living in the first world simply continue their lives as usual without joining either the side of the heroes or the villains. Some people simply want to be left alone, powers or not.

Of course, at times it can be hard to tell if someone is a metahuman or not. Generally, metahuman intelligence is determined by how long it takes someone to solve problems that would normally require some time for a normal expert in their field - a mathematician with metahuman intelligence would be able to quickly solve a very complex calculation with no calculator, for example. Some people don’t draw their ‘powers’ from a gene but from something else such as biotechnology or an item of indeterminate origin. For classification purposes, these people are not called metahumans at all but melihumans. Some superhero organizations accept them, others do not.
The rise of metahumans, of course, led to the rise of superheroes. Generally, superheroes work in teams - one can become an independent hero, but many times, these independents don’t last that long thanks to having no one to look out for their back. Additionally, independent heroes have to cover all their costs themselves for things like protective equipment, weapons, and traveling around to fight villains if they cover more than just their local area. All in all, it’s usually easier and more beneficial to be part of a team, and these teams are sanctioned by various bodies.

The Bureau of Metahuman Activity, or the BMA, is the American organization responsible for sanctioning superheroes and overseeing their work. Other countries have their own systems. The EU has the European Commission for Superhuman Activity, or the ECSA, while Russia and some states in the former Soviet Union use the International Metahuman Directorate, or IMD. All in all, these groups tend to have a hands off approach, but when superheroes need policing, they’re the ones who get called in to handle the job.

Below the level of national sanctioning bodies are superhero organizations - organizations are a bit different than teams. While teams are, well, a singular team, organizations are larger and can make up a number of them. Team Infinity is the largest organization in North America, for example, and they have a number of teams within their larger brand. Team Infinity New York, Team Infinity Los Angeles, Team Infinity Miami, and so on. They also have some smaller affiliate teams, which is a common practice among large organizations to provide coverage to smaller cities that wouldn’t otherwise have heroes - Salt Lake City, Pittsburgh, Baton Rouge, and Minneapolis are examples of cities with affiliate teams.

Then there’s the individual teams, of course. They come in all different shapes and sizes. Some are part of organizations, others are fully independent and answer to no one but the sanctioning body, and some are illegal vigilantes who defy even their national authorities and pursue justice on their own terms. All of these types of teams play their own role and different areas have more than others of certain types. Rural areas with less official hero presence for example, are likely to accept vigilantism more than a big city where simply calling the police or the regular hero team is enough to handle most problems.

Superheroes are usually given some kind of identification from their authorities which authorizes them to use force and to enforce the law with the same powers as police - or in many cases, greater powers. While police may need things such as warrants, superheroes are often given loose rules thanks to their status and the urgent nature of most of the matters they respond to. Unlicensed heroes are known as vigilantes, and in much of the world, this comes with a criminal punishment for varying reasons, most notably being the fact that a hero who hasn’t been trained and doesn’t know what he or she is doing is a dangerous hero, not just to criminals but to their own city. Vigilantes do, however, have their own following and plenty of people who advocate that what they do should be legalized. It’s a hot button issue that often sees public debate.
Technology is similar to what it is in real life, but it’s a bit more advanced. Some things that have been theorized or were attempted unsuccessfully in real life exist in the universe of Heroes LIVE, where inventions come about at a quicker rate thanks to the presence of metahuman inventors.

Computing technology exceeds current capabilities and lifelike AI is an emerging technology on the market. This research has been somewhat restricted by some governments for public safety reasons, but it’s believed that sentient AI would be possible using the technology available. Most AI, however, are restricted for the aforementioned safety reasons and are only able to accomplish a few tasks which they were designed for. There do exist in this world, though, experiments to push the current limits and boundaries - and there’s definitely more than one secret project aimed at making sentient AI for various purposes, ranging from scientific to villainous and even noble.

There have been some advances in medicine but the most relevant of these is perhaps the rise of cybernetics - body parts can be replaced now, and many of these replacements can exceed the original in some areas. There’s eyes that can see sharper and clearer even in low light, arms that can hit harder and deflect attacks, and artificial organs which can give greater performance… Additionally, these artificial body parts are part of an overall set of technology which allows one to greatly extend their lifespan. The world is, essentially, close to a cyberpunk revolution. Not quite there yet, but much of the tech exists and is becoming more available for affordable prices, as well as being improved upon constantly.

The field of weapons has new things of its own. Laser based weaponry is getting smaller and more effective and handheld weapons of this nature now exist - although they’re still limited by cost compared to normal firearms, and so most people outside of large organizations don’t have access to these yet. Drones, caseless ammunition, various forms of stealth technology, and a number of other things have become more common and developed over the years. In other words, most things that are currently under development in real life exist in a more polished state in Heroes LIVE.

If in doubt about whether a technology would be available to your character, just ask the thread staff about the matter.

CHARACTER BUILDING - MAKING A HERO

Before you can do anything, you’re going to need at least one character. The character building system in this RP is for the most part what you’re used to, but there’s a couple key differences. There are some RPG elements in this RP, but don’t worry - it’s not a mechanics based RP and you won’t have to worry about these elements as a player. All of the work falls on the side of the thread staff in this area, and as the player, all you have to do is know what the numbers mean and how to fill them out. The process is fairly easy.

Characters have four attributes - Strength, Dexterity, Health, and Intelligence. These attributes, and dice rolls, are used to determine the outcomes of some actions. These rolls don’t apply to everything, of course. You don’t have to roll to do some mundane task such as getting in a car and driving somewhere. You would roll, however, for important things such as combat or handling some other important task.

As an example, let’s say that you want to shoot at an enemy. Your dexterity skill is 12, so to hit, you have to roll at or under that number. If the result of the roll was 11, for example, your roll would be a success. If it was 13 or higher, it would be a failure. All attribute rolls are conducted on Discord with 3d6 dice - players also don’t need to do their own rolls, as this is typically handled by the thread staff.

The better your stats are in a given area, the more likely a roll is to succeed. There is no ‘point system’ that determines what your stats can be. Your character should be balanced, however, and their stats should match up fairly decently with their skillset. Someone who has focused heavily on working out and strengthening their body isn’t going to have the same intelligence stat as the person who spends all of their time studying strategy, for example. Stats can theoretically be any number, but most of them range from 8-15.

Wondering what stats your character should have? Below, you can find an explanation for just how strong each level is.

Stat Levels

7 or less: Very poor. Attempting something at this skill level will fail most of the time.

8: Poor. Represents someone definitely worse than an average person at the skill.

9: Below average. Will fail more often than not, but not by as dramatic of a margin. Still not an optimal skill.

10: The baseline average, for the average person.

11: Above average. Someone with an ‘11’ in a specific attribute will succeed on rolls against that attribute more often than not.

12: Good. Someone at this skill level is better than above average at that skill.

13: Very good. Someone with a skill level of 13 can succeed consistently.

14: Expert. Someone with this skill level is highly skilled and has a lot of practice/experience.

15: Top class. If someone has a 15 in an attribute, they’ll succeed almost all of the time in rolls against that attribute.

16 and greater: Normally, the highest skill would be 15, but certain special circumstances may see higher skills. For example, a robot not limited by human qualities may go higher than 15 in skill levels.

Not sure about this system and the difficulty involved? Feel free to post any questions on this thread - additionally, know that the player is mostly responsible for some setup and the OP and Co-OPs handle most of the actual legwork. The use of mechanics also ensures a fairer RP for all of you, the players. By rolling for results, things like fight scenes are sped up and improved by cutting out a lot of unnecessary discussions - there’s no need to debate whether something like an attack hitting is fair or not when it’s based on the results of a roll against your character’s skill rather than someone’s subjective decision.

Superpowers

One of the key things in a superhero based RP is having superpowers, of course. This section will be simpler but there’s a few things that you should note.

The first is that the metahuman gene, Gene M, grants a passive strength and durability bonus, and by extension a bonus to athleticism, by default. You don’t need to list this passive bonus on your application, because it’s already assumed that you have it. This bonus generally puts you ahead of the average person by some margin and allows for tanking some damage in fights. It isn’t the same thing as super strength, however, and a metahuman who specifically specializes in super strength will have no problems beating out the strength of another metahuman who only has the passive bonus.

Second, some powers have been banned due to their inherently unbalanced or anti gameplay nature (for example, time travel can negatively affect gameplay for other characters around yours). Others are limited in certain ways. Please check this list below before making a character.

Super speed based powers are limited to no more than 75 miles per hour with a 0-75 mph acceleration time of four seconds. Time travel and vector manipulation are banned entirely thanks to their unbalanced nature and negative effects on gameplay, and in the case of time travel, potentially also on the flow of writing for other players who are caught up in another character’s time manipulation. On the technology front, portable railguns are banned as well as power armor that more than doubles the performance of the user.

Applications

If you’ve read all of this, you can look below to find the application as well as an FAQ that may answer some more questions about the thread.

Why does this RP use mechanics instead of just deciding results like everyone else?
It’s fairer and makes writing fight scenes an easier affair, as well as adding some depth to the RP. Having stats and having a chance to fail forces you to think about your moves before making them instead of just assuming that your actions will work no matter what. Both sides have their own skills, after all, and you’ll have to weigh yours against the competition’s and decide if you want to take a risk. It also means the results are decided more by character skill than subjective reasoning on whether an attack would be successful or not.

Seriously, though. Think of how exciting certain scenes are if you have a chance to fail. Things like stealthily creeping past a stronger enemy and trying not to be seen, or launching a desperate attack to turn the tides of the fight against your foe. If there’s no chance of it backfiring, which using light mechanics provides, where’s the thrill?

So is this like Marvel or DC?
Honestly? Sort of, but not really. There’s some comparisons to be made, sure, but overall you’re probably not going to have a good time if you treat this like a Marvel and DC world and not take the universe of this RP for what it is. It’s rougher in some areas and in some areas, it’s just… Different. It’s a superhero RP but the world doesn’t really revolve around superheroes. Corporations, government agents, criminals, and even TV producers are all big players in the universe of the RP and can have just as much of an impact as the heroes themselves.

Things are also a lot more grey than most traditional superhero stories. Not everyone’s a hero for the best motives, and allegiances aren’t always clear. Also, ultraviolence and bloody, sometimes lethal, fights are a well accepted part of the hero game. There’s a good chance your favorite heroes from Marvel or DC would be considered somewhat tame here. Also, on another note, there’s a focus on internal consistency and having a world that feels alive - this means you can expect limited comic book logic… Not everything will be realistic, of course, and many aspects of the world itself are unrealistic, but there should be little to no things like characters coming back from the dead in a few weeks, miraculous results and ex machinas helping the heroes in fights, and villains behaving stupidly just because they’re villains.

Can I run my own arc?
Maybe. This tends to get asked in a lot of hero RPs, but running an arc is a large undertaking and requires a lot of commitment and effort to do properly. While it is possible to announce a new situation and then throw the player base right into it, this method can also kill an RP if the arc doesn’t hold the interest of the players. Anyone looking to run an arc or subarc of their own and do it properly has to prepare the scenario, any NPC characters that will encounter the player cast, and consider potential twists and turns that can happen due to player action. Then, it’s smart to gather interest from other players before trying to begin an arc. If you want to run your own thing, you should first talk to the Co-OPs and then begin this process of gathering interest.

Can I play an instructor in Generation NEXT?
Instructor applications are closed most of the time. We’ll let you know if we need more. The reason this position is pretty restricted is because the focus of the arc is on the show members. Most of the scenes in the RP are set up for those characters, and most time skips are oriented towards giving them things to do - not giving their senior hero instructors something to accomplish. Sure, instructors have the job of, well, instructing. But this isn’t a ‘classroom RP’ per say, and most of it will be spent outside of these lessons. Which would leave players who have instructor characters with little meaningful tasks a lot of the time.

Does my character have to be a metahuman?
If you’re applying for Generation NEXT, you should have at least one character that’s a metahuman (or melihuman. The section on powers explains the difference). Team Infinity members are also all metahuman, which is to say, there’s no regular humans who are simply fighting crime with their human skills. There may, however, be chances to play supporting roles that aren’t on the team proper, or characters outside of the team. You should inquire about this before writing the app for such a character to make sure the idea works.

Do demons/vampires/werewolves/magic/etc exist in this universe?
No. Not by supernatural means, anyway. If you want your character to have a similar aesthetic, you’re allowed. For example, nothing is stopping your dark energy manipulating character from calling themselves a warlock and dressing as such. But magical items and things like that aren’t going to help them any more than a regular item would. For now at least, the source of almost all powers is still Gene M.
1 - OP and Co-OP decisions are final, this includes things such as character death and plot developments as well as what characters will be allowed in the RP.

2 - Discord participation will not be enforced but is highly advised. Rolls are conducted on Discord, meaning if you aren’t there, you will lack some context for the results of your character’s actions. Collaborative posts are also coordinated via Discord. You'll get the invite after acceptance.

3 - All characters in the RP must be balanced. Balanced simply means that they can reasonably be countered and aren’t simply set up to defeat everything they come across. Having legitimate power limitations and weaknesses helps with making a balanced character. It does not help to give your character obscure weaknesses which will rarely ever come up, for example deciding that they can only be killed through drowning.

4 - You can set the dates on your posts yourself. Everyone doesn’t have to write posts that take place at the same time. However, you should avoid going ahead the latest current date.

5 - You are allowed to make your own technology and devices, but these and their functions and power level must be listed on your application. Under no circumstances should you have your character suddenly pull out gadgets and weapons which aren’t listed on your application and weren’t mentioned previously in the IC. You’re a superhero, but that doesn’t mean you can fabricate gear using your pockets.

6 - Characters should be attached to an arc. They don’t necessarily have to be involved with it in exactly the same way as everyone else, but they should have some ties. This is because independent characters tend to go inactive thanks to being isolated from the main events in the RP.

7 - No Young Bloods players due to continued disagreements.

Lyra Richard AKA Shift
Profiling & Evaluation File
SECURITY LEVEL: Declassified - All Rights Reserved, Team Infinity International ©

NAME: Lyra Richard
ALIAS: Shift
ALLEGIANCE: Generation NEXT, Sword Corp.
OCCUPATION: Superhero

APPEARANCE:
Image

GENDER: Female
AGE: 20
BUILD: Lyra is around 5'6" and 120 pounds. While she is fit, she leans towards the skinny side of people. She is very flexible, having trained in gymnastics since her youth.

POWERS: Lyra's powerset is an interesting set of both inherited and new powers. Her primary power and the one she is most well known for is her super speed. Lyra is a memberof the upper class of speedsters, being able to run close to 75 mph and accelerating to max speed in about six seconds. Without cost to her own body, she can hold max speed for about 30 minutes, though at the cost of her own health she can run for up to 6 hours. Lyra's second power is Light Manipulation. Lyra is able to drain light from sources, store it in her body, and the expel it from her body at a time convenient to her. This can either be in form of a blinding flash or a burning beam of concentrated light. Typically Lyra only had enough energy for one flash or ten blasts, but her armor allows her to effectively double her capacity. Lyra's final power is her very mild mental powers. These are not extreme, merely allowing Lyra to levitate a small object for a few seconds or to make herself slightly more likeable to people, and using them too often gives Lyra a crippling headache.

EQUIPMENT: Conduit Suit Mk. 1- The Conduit line of Supersuits are produced by the Sword Corporation, carefully tailoring to the needs of the user. Lyra's suit is mainly a stylish life support system that doubles as a battery for her light powers. While it provides a frictionless costume and suitable armor for a speedster, it's internal mechanics include several stress, damage, and nerve triggered mechanisms to deliver medicinal aid to Lyra when she needs it. These include calming agents and an IV mix to minimize the damage Lyra receives when she pushes her speed, as well as giving her a readout of her vitals when she requests it. Additionally, the Suit acts as a battery for her light powers, effectively doubling her capacity while she wears it.

STRENGTH: 13

DEXTERITY: 14

HEALTH: 9

INTELLIGENCE: 10

PERSONALITY: Lyra, like many of her fellow Gen 4 heroes, is a very confused and torn young woman. Her actual personality, which is genuinely kind and giving, has been surpressed and stagnated since she was a young girl, making her very emotionally inexperienced. Outwardly she displays her developed personality, the popular girl of whatever superhero group she happens to be a part of at the moment. She plays for attention and is not used to being rejected by anyone. This has also lead to an inflated sense of self-confidence and worth, as well as entitlement.

BIOGRAPHY: Lyra's story really begins in the aftermath of splitting the atom, with her great grandfather, Eagle. Eagle was one of the first generation, his power making him far stronger than normal men and also gifting him with flight far faster than most trains. Recruited by the US Army, he was one of the "Shining Generation" a name assigned to a particular group of Army heroes who were mostly used for propaganda purposes and doing tasks on the homefront rather than doing actual gritty work. Most of Eagle's life was classified when he joined the government, so that only his public persona which included such feats as "Single handedly dropping the nukes on Japan" remained after his death. What Lyra knows of her great-grandfather was that at some point during the early fifties, he married and had a son, who he named James. James went by his mothers last name Green, and was raised much like an army brat, travelling with his father around the country making multiple stops on the press circuit.

When James turned six, it was discovered that he too possessed the M Gene, though in a much different way than his father. While he displayed muted versions of Eagle's powerset, his primary powers were of the mental variety, possessing telekinetic and mind control abilities, as well as advanced intelligence. Though the Government initially considered him as the leader of a successor group to the Shining Generation, they ultimately rejected him, due to both the boy's own arrogance, and the slow stripping of funds from the Shining Generation in favor of other Super based projects. This rejection made James Green a very bitter man as he grew, and at the age of twenty, he faked his own death. Emerging two years later as the mercenary Twisted, James became one of the first independent super villains. Becoming a nemesis to his father and many of the superheros of Pacific Coast, James built an underworld empire based in arms, drugs, and Superhero mercenaries. Eventually however, Eagle realized who Twisted was, and managed to subdue and arrest his own son. James was sentenced to a life sentence in prison, while Eagle retired from the Superhero scene, partly out of age, partly out of embarrassment, and partly out of the latest revelation in the twisted second half of his life, his grandaughter.

Mary Green was the daughter of Twisted and his long time girlfriend, the mysterious assassin known only as Mist. Her father was brought in when she was only a few months old, and her mother had vanished after her birth, never to be seen again. Unable to let his own granddaughter be sent into the foster care system as a likely metahuman, Eagle raised her with his wife, and even brought her to visit her father as she grew. Seeing his daughter grow seemed to soften James, or at the very least give him an excuse to apply for parole when it became available to him. By this point Mary was 18, a young and struggling actress working long nights as a superheroine known as Angel, and happy to finally have her father in her life. James was nothing if not smart, and had devised a new way to build a fortune while watching the world change over a TV set in prison. Using his supernatural charm, money from his old offshore accounts, and his father's reputation, James was able to forge a new life for himself as the Founder and first CEO of the Sword corporation. Painting himself as a beacon of reform, and playing on people's increasing reliance on mass media, James used his daughter as the figurehead of his company, the first company to promote, study, and market Superheros.

Angel went from a d-list superhero in LA to an overnight sensation, becoming part of the first iteration of the Infinity Group and being one of the first superheros to star in her own movies. Her father's company handeled her brand, secured her promotions and sponsorships, and even manipulating villains to provide her with satisfying storylines that the public ate up. As Angel succeeded, Sword Corp. grew exponentially, becoming tied to almost every part of the growing Superhero Media market. By the 1990s, James wielded more power than he ever did as a villain, and Angel had stepped back from more heroic duties to become part of Sword Corps. management. Marrying famous actor Steven Richard, she gave birth to her daughter Lyra a few days after her grandfather died. Eagle's death represented for many the final breath of the first generation, and followed so quickly by Lyra's highly publicized birth heralded Generation 4 for many. With Lyra's birth, Angel stepped away from heroics completely, her retirement ceremony being called the only thing brighter than Angel's powers themselves.

From the day of her birth, Lyra's life was designed and pre planned. Before her powers even manifested several plans had been drawn up for whatever power set she could have. While she was a young child, Lyra was trained in various arts she could use one day as a hero, including gymnastics, and various martial arts. She first demonstrated her speed at age four, and training her variety of powers became a priority. At the age of six, she was sent to "Halo Academy", a prestigous school for the next generation of heroic youth based in LA. By the age of 10, Lyra and her friends were making appearances as apprentices and starring in a variety of TV shows. With the advent of social media, Lyra became an icon to many young people around the country. By the age of 16, Lyra was starring on a predecessor to Generation NEXT known as Sword Academy, where multiple super students would attend lessons, and fight villains. By this point Lyra was also delving into chemical solutions to both the effects of her powers and her emotional issues. When Lyra was 17, her Grandfather retired and settled in a Malibu mansion that became Lyra's weekend escape since around the time she turned 18. With her life only becoming more complicated, Lyra has entered, on her mother's order, as a member of Generation NEXT.

The name's James. James Usari. Well, my name is not actually James Usari, so don't bother actually looking it up, but it'll do for now.

- Dexterity looks a bit high and health looks low. As it stands she would succeed in almost all tasks that involve dexterity (movement, shooting, etc) due to having a stat level that would usually be used for a very experienced and trained hero, while also failing most rolls for health related things such as resisting toxins and other things that have to do with the body. I'd put the health around 10 and lower the dexterity to 13.

Elis Nankova
Profiling & Evaluation File
SECURITY LEVEL: Declassified - All Rights Reserved, Team Infinity International ©

NAME: Elis Nankova
ALIAS: Bulwark
ALLEGIANCE: Team Wave (AuTech), formerly Jollibee Metro Manila Bees, Artiaga Cartel
OCCUPATION: Superhero
APPEARANCE:
Image

GENDER: Female
AGE: 22
BUILD: 5' 0", 106 lbs

POWERS: Elis can create panels of forcefield within a four foot radius around herself, and telekinetically manipulate these panels only limited by her line of sight. Each panel can range in size from a coin to a circle with a 1-foot radius, with them being a few millimeters thick and approximately as strong as a few inches of steel armour. Elis can use her panels both defensively, to create barriers around herself and teammates and offensively, by throwing her panels like projectiles at enemies. Panels outside of her four foot radius last for approximately 15 seconds before dissipating unless pulled back into her radius
EQUIPMENT: Elis carries a Makarov pistol and a Shipka SMG.

STRENGTH: 11
DEXTERITY: 12

HEALTH: 12

INTELLIGENCE: 10

PERSONALITY: Elis is a quiet, level-headed individual, and one who's very difficult to unsettle; she has a deep-rooted sense of loyalty to those she cares about, even if it's hard to earn that loyalty owing to having an earned sense of wariness from her time in the world of superheroes and growing up in Bulgaria. Elis also has a drive and ambition about her, not to get anywhere specific, but simply to do better than wherever she is now.

BIOGRAPHY: Elis was born in ex-WarPac Bulgaria, and the somewhat unique environment experienced by it and many ex-Soviet states after the end of the Cold War. Heroes, previously kept on the end of the tight leash of the Bulgarian government and under the watch of a team of Soviet heroes, were suddenly unleashed upon the country. Villains were all but unknown, metahumans being ruthlessly conscripted into the Metahuman Branch of the Committee for State Security. When everything collapsed, they were suddenly off the leash, and in the chaos, the vast majority took to using their connections within the collapsing government to enrich themselves, others swiftly leaving for greener, better paying pastures in the West.

By the time Elis was born, heroism was little more than a state sanctioned protection racket. Heroes and villains fought over turf in gang wars, Bulgaria not rich enough to afford a genuine hero team of its own and forced to rely on the so-called 'heroes' inherited from the communist predecessor. Being a hero was what everyone hoped to be; for the money, not the morality. Elis' own powers manifested at the age of 11; by then, the system was so dug in and institutionalized that the state ran a 'Hero Academy' with EU funding, officially to prevent metas from becoming villains, unofficially to train them into the new ranks of the oligarchy's brute squad. No, Elis wanted more than to simply be stuck in some team in Bulgaria for the rest of her life, so she hid her powers until at 16 she simply left Bulgaria.

Becoming a hero, though, was nowhere near as easy as Elis had thought; it wasn't a simple matter of strolling in the door and showing off powers. Most of it was a media circus she didn't understand, full of agents she couldn't afford. Villainy became a quick way for her to make easy money on the side, and a way to make connections in a world that wasn't hers, even if it was connections on the other side. Nothing obvious or that could be traced back to her, but eventually, the criminal grapevine brought her connections and money to a point where she was signed onto the Jollibee Metro Manila Bees at 18.

Saying she hated it there was an understatement. She hated the team and its stupid name and branding, hated the sweltering streets of Manila, the unfamiliar language, the unfamiliar food... But it gave her experience with the media, how to handle herself in front of cameras, created her hero persona. It set her up for greater things, deepened the connections she had to other groups, and eventually she finally escaped, signing onto Team Wave.

I changed her to Gen NEXT in the back story and stuff, and changed the health and dexterity to 9 and 14 respectively. This is supposed to represent both her super speed and life long training in dexterity focused arts like Gymnastics, ballet, and martial arts, while the health is meant to represent the toll her powers take on her and her chemical dependence, hence why they are higher and lower respectively.

Mohammed ‘Mo’ al-Moustafa
Profiling & Evaluation File
SECURITY LEVEL: Declassified - All Rights Reserved, Team Infinity International ©

NAME: Mohammed al-Moustafa
ALIAS: Jacob ‘Jake’ Aubery, Jake-A
ALLEGIANCE: Generation NEXT, Aubery Inc.
OCCUPATION: Superhero-for-hire

APPEARANCE:
Image

GENDER: Male
AGE: 17
BUILD: 1.75m, 78 Kg

POWERS:
Limited foresight: Mohammed as very limited foresight abilities. He can perceive events and feelings about 2 to 5 seconds before they actually happen, depending on how likely something is to happen and how bad the results would be. He can feel pain before it happens, see impacts, and even predict some events that will occur on a screen a few moments before they actually happen. Confusion happens when a lot of things are about to happen, especially when their impact is immense. Then, Mohammed will get a sensory overload, which is very painful itself, leading to a hurtful spiral that usually ends in him fainting. Of course, the future is always in flux, and Mohammed seeing something coming will not mean it actually has to come.

Enhanced reflexes: Mohammed has a superconductive nervous system that allows him to take quick actions based on his limited foresight. His movements in general are very quick, and are sometimes triggered by nothing in particular. This means Mohammed has a lot of nervous ticks that can fire very quickly, and other people might be startled by his quick movements and actions. The fact that he knows what the end of your sentence will be as soon as you have spoken the first few words, but he still has to wait for you to finish, means that conversations vex and bore him very quickly.

EQUIPMENT:
Taser cane (A two-handed fighting cane with two electrified ends)
Carbon fibre cuirass, arm guards and greaves (no helmet), with the logo of Aubery Inc. spray-painted on.

STRENGTH: 12

DEXTERITY: 13 (because of his power)

HEALTH: 11

INTELLIGENCE: 10

PERSONALITY: Mohammed is many things. He is an avid gamer. He likes to play video games a lot, especially RTSs and FPSs. He likes fast cars. He likes a lot of sports, especially fast reaction sports. He enjoys his powers a lot, but feels like he is not using them to their fullest extent. He is dabbling in politics for the first time in his life, and is quite apathetic to his father’s business, of which he is an integral part. However, he does enjoy the pop icon status that comes with that work, and the thrill of being a celebrity overcomes most of his issues, most of the time. However, he is not bound to non-violence, although both his father and his fighting master argue for it. In many ways, e is just a conflicted teenager given extraordinary abilities.

BIOGRAPHY: Mohammed was born in 2003 to two humans who were as ordinary as they were extraordinary. His parents moved to the US from Jordan in late 2005; his mother was a human rights lawyer, his father an entrepreneur with his own business. Both came to the US seeking fortune away from the Middle East and the violence that had recently occurred in their home country. They wanted to live the American dream, as much as that was possible.

In the US, they fell on hard times. Their English was relatively good but not perfect, and as such, the young family stood out tremendously. There was still distrust for Muslims, and as a result they went to prayer less and less. Both had problems getting and holding jobs, both through language barriers and at least a bit of opposition to their ethnic and religious background. In the meantime, their son was doing very well in school. Incredibly well, in fact. In class, he wrote down the entire alphabet before the teacher could, and he could answer all the teacher’s questions perfectly. A bit too perfect, in fact.

The breakthrough came during a 6th birthday party, when he predicted the magician’s tricks before they happened. Aside from ruining the show, the school tipped Mohammed’s parents to have him tested on the M-gene. As a result, he was found out as a metahuman.

Raising a metahuman is difficult. His parents had no experience raising a super-powered child. They had no experience raising kids whatsoever. Not only that, but with his powers of limited foresight, talking to the little child was very confusing. To the untrained eye, it could look a bit like mind-reading, which was quite disturbing to the uninitiated. While he had been doing well in primary school, high school was nothing but a bore. There were no surprises for him, which made the lessons incredibly boring. On the other hand, the boring lessons meant he retained nothing, so he did poorly on tests. He did very well in sports, though, in which he absolutely excelled. He was drafted early for a few football teams, both because of his natural resilience and because of his power. However, before he could end high school, the NCAA changed its rules on meta-humans participating.

His father would not leave it there. He wanted to see his son excel. With his savings from his son’s college fund, after establishing that Mohammed had no mind for academics, he set up his own business. He would sell the uses of his son’s limited foresight. First, this was mostly in law enforcement. Mohammed worked for a dispatch centre first, then for an emergency room in a local hospital. It wasn’t long before he was taken along on larger police actions, managing to predict slightly in advance what actions a criminal was about to take. Knowing someone will take a left five seconds before it happens helped corner fleeing cars with a frightening efficiency.

In summer 2019, two things happened. The company, Aubrey, went public, and started taking on huge contracts from Wall Street brokers in order to predict happenings on the stock markets. He became somewhat of a celebrity: he got his own gaming channel, became a PR investment for large companies to hire. He helped sell for large car companies. His dad expanded his company, and crafted the public figure: Jake Aubrey, a regular American kid turned hero. The less marketable parts of his personality, the fainting, the migrant background, were scrubbed way.

Secondly, his parents divorced. His mother was squarely against the company in the first place, and even more against it going public. She saw it as the selling out of her own son, and she could not stand for it. So, his parents broke up. Mohammed, or Jake, has been seeing his mother less and less and his schedule has become tighter and tighter. His dad, now sinking almost all of his time in the company, has been trying relentlessly to keep the prices rising and rising. Participating in Generation NEXT was only the next logical step on the road to stardom, while his customers see it as a way to get their brand out there.

The name's James. James Usari. Well, my name is not actually James Usari, so don't bother actually looking it up, but it'll do for now.

Antonio "Toro" Torres
Profiling & Evaluation File
SECURITY LEVEL: Declassified - All Rights Reserved, Team Infinity International ©

NAME: Antonio Torres
ALIAS: Toro
ALLEGIANCE: Luchadores Primos, Generation NEXT
OCCUPATION: Superhero

APPEARANCE:
Image

GENDER: Male
AGE: 19
BUILD: 6'2, 230 pounds. He's big and heavyset, looking much like an NFL linebacker.

POWERS:

Bull's Might: Antonio is strong, able to punch with his heavy gauntlets as if they were boxing gloves. His endurance is impressive, but his max strength is a disappointing two tons.

Crushing Charge: Antonio has an explosive sprint, able to dash up to 40 MPH with a mere 2 second acceleration time. This, combined with his enormous gauntlets and power striking force, can bash through buildings, walls, and cars. It isn't the most accurate thing in the world, but when it hits, it hits hard. However, such recklessness comes with a nasty side effect of concussing him after repeated uses, which takes around ten minutes for him to regenerate. The longer he fights, the more his intelligence drops, leading him to make foolhardy and risky decisions.

Steel Skeleton: Antonio's bones are particularly hard and shatter resistant, which allows him to crash thoughtlessly into nearly anything. They're not unbreakable, by any means - just tougher than some other metahumans.

Heart of the Beast: Antonio's innate healing factor is quite powerful, able to regenerate torn tendons, pierced muscles, broken bones, and even damaged organs (to some extent). Small rounds are more of an irritation than anything, and even larger calibers may not be enough to do him in. However, this comes with one notable exception: headshots. A sniper could take him out with a calculated single shot, assuming that it pierces the skull. Additionally, the pain that comes with said regeneration is not dulled. If he takes enough damage, the pain will become incapacitating, leaving him near helpless.

EQUIPMENT:

Titan's Fists: Toro has two large gauntlets, made of titanium. They're dented to all hell and back, but they're as tough as the day they were made. They're essentially cushioned boxing gloves, meant to amplify his incredible charging strikes. Weighing around 300 pounds each, these giant fists obliterate anything unlucky enough to stand in their way. These were built by Sword Corp as a custom order - needless to say, he's still making payments on them.

Motorcycle Helmet: It's literally just a motorcycle helmet. He goes through a lot of these, as they're meant to help prevent repeated concussions and rarely survive longer than a few impacts.

Tracksuit: Charging straight into gunfire and walls could certainly be lethal, even with a great healing factor. Antonio rejects colorful supersuits or futuristic body armor, opting for a custom Adidas track suit, layered with thin aramid fiber armor on the inside. It's not entirely bulletproof, but it does a good job at absorbing most shrapnel and blocking minor caliber fire.

STRENGTH: 14

DEXTERITY: 10

HEALTH: 14

INTELLIGENCE: 9

PERSONALITY: Antonio is loud, friendly, and passionate. He's kind-hearted, but not necessarily the sharpest knife in the shed. This is gonna be a bit of a WIP, but he's basically a jock.

BIOGRAPHY: Coming from humble origins, Antonio was born in 2001 in the city of San Antonio, Texas. His parents are Maria and Leon Torres, a nurse and mechanic respectively. The Torres family was hardly wealthy (first generation immigrants), although they were able to live comfortably within their means in the South Central area of the city. The last of six sons, he grew up in a large, boisterous family. From the day he was born, he lived in a cacophony of music, dance, and sound. As a youngest child, he never lacked for attention, although he was pushed around by his older brothers quite often.

As Antonio grew older, it was evident that something about him was different. By eighth grade, he was the fastest kid on the track team, beating out everyone on varsity despite having no experience running. Additionally, he was freakishly strong, able to lift up cars in his dad's shop without much difficulty. He was much larger than his brothers and sisters, and his parents had high hopes for an athletic career from an early age. They pushed him to his limit every day, going out of their way to get him involved in every team they could. However, though he was athletic and powerful, it wasn't overwhelmingly obvious that he had the benefits of Gene M running through his blood.

However, this was quick to change. As he entered his freshman year of Southside High School, he joined up with their football team as a running back. Quickly, he took over the starting position, using his large frame and quick acceleration to cut through defensive lines and make plays all over the field. However, while this was quite possibly the best year of his life, it was short lived - in the seventh game of his career, he broke several ribs, crashing through tackle after tackle. The principal of the school pulled his parents in the day after, explaining that their son simply wasn't meant to tussle with normal people. While his parents were disappointed at the evident end of his athletic career, they were optimistic and excited about the potential for what laid next. Antonio, however, was devastated. When he left the football team, his friends left with him. He went from a star and a jock to a freak, as horns began to form on the sides of his head. Quickly, he went from the heights of glory to the pits of despair, and his dreams collapsed around him. While his parents encouraged him to become a superhero, his powers were relatively unimpressive. Yes, he was stronger and faster, but compared to heroes that could shoot lasers and fly...that wasn't much.

Fortune, however, had more in store for him. One day, during his daily bike ride home, he decided to hit up some friends and blow off his dad's shop. He'd been working far too often recently, and he was sick of his parents nagging him to go to the BMA (who had already rejected him) and do something useful with his life. After a few hours of aimlessly jogging around the streets, he decided to head downtown with his few remaining friends. Just to shoot the shit and hang out. Maybe hit on a couple cuties at the local bars. He didn't get carded much. As he and his friends drank and partied the night away, there was the sound of an explosion outside of the bar. As the music vanished and the lights flickered off, the partying ground to a halt as murmurs and rumors spread through the crowded nightclub. Supposedly, there had been several large explosions outside, and nobody really knew what was going on. Curious and half-drunk, Antonio foolishly pushed through the crowd and exited the front door. As he stepped outside, he came face to face with the ongoing scene - a Vigilante engaged in the midst of a fierce battle with several local robbers. It was a local hero, Ultimo Diabolico (a fire manipulator). However, he was struggling greatly - the suppressive fire from the robbers had trapped him behind a pillar, and he bled from multiple gunshot wounds.

In that moment, Antonio seized fate by the horns. As adrenaline rushed through him, he clenched his fists and charged the gunmen with a wild recklessness. Pain seared through his chest as the first bullet hit him, followed by a second and a third - but he did not stop. With a mighty crash, he hit the closest gunman with a powerful swing, sending him crashing in the pavement. Rather than letting him die, Antonio's recessive Gene M activated with full force, the gaping holes in his chest fusing shut and twisting with freshly grown sinew. Gunman after gunman fell in his onslaught, as he kept bashing and tearing his way through the unprepared squad (with the help of Diabolico, who seized the opportunity to emerge from the pillar and strike anew).

But a greater blessing than the activation of his full strength was his friend Marcus, who stared agape as he caught the whole thing on video. It went viral among the SA Community - after all, Antonio was unproven and untrained, but had thrown his life in danger nonetheless. The fact that he had done it out of drunken stupidity was obscured and lost in the reports that came after, and the Luchadores Primos (the local team which Diabolico was from) offered Antonio a chance to rise up and join the team as a rookie. His popularity rose and rose as he threw himself into fight after fight. Every battle was a theatrical experience, with Antonio showboating and making a scene through ridiculous amounts of property damage and gore (sometimes his own, sometimes not). The Luchadores Primos were actively involved in rooting out local drug gangs in the city, and through this campaign, he gained a following. The cause was twofold - first, he was an unrelenting beast in battle, and second, he a community role model outside of it. As he worked with the Luchadores, he remained incredibly involved with his family's community, doing his best to support local schools, sports, and to create scholarships for underprivileged students. Of course, most of this image is due to the branding done by his agent Camila (a close associate and friend of the Luchadores) - but it worked. As his popularity grew to a fever pitch in the Hispanic communities of San Antonio and Houston, he decided to give Generation NEXT a shot. And, by some miracle...it landed.
