Can't say I am surprised that Putin is seeking ways to stay in control in Russia. Personally I don't think it is a good thing, but then I favour term limits, not everyone does. Presumably the upside is stability, though is there really much point to the Russian Constitution if it is so easily changed to suit the needs of Putin?

I don't think I understand these maneuverings - when he is no longer President and he shifts power to parliament how does he control things? Does shifting Medvedev mean he is looking for another PM he can control?

No he didn't have infinite terms, he has reached the limit on being President under the current rules. Why he didn't just try to change that I would be interested to know.

No, he is limited to two consecutive (key word: consecutive) terms. Last time, he switched to prime minister to dodge the limit. He intends to do the same apparently, while the constitutional reforms increase the power of the prime minister (likely his next position) and parliament.

What does this mean for Russia's future? Yes, more Putin, but in a different form (most dictators generally do with term limits altogether?). Putin can't rule forever, does he have a plan other than extending his rule?

All you can hope for if you're Russian is two things

#1 that putin isn't an immortal

#2 that he only meant for himself to have power and the empire dies with him
