At least 10 people have died in recent protests outside the Gatussian Congress. Gatussian Opposition Leader Emran Sohrabi is reportedly organising a coup against President Aldrin Jean Gato. Sohrabi, a staunch nationalist and hater of the West says Gato is planning to sell the oil beneath the Huhn River to the Allies. Sohrabi has also accused Gato of intentionally letting the Mangabians occupy and annex former South Mangabia which led to the humiliating defeat of the Gatussian Army there during the Second Mangabian War in exchange of allowing the government to extract 50 per cent of water and oil from the Southern Huhn River. Sohrabi claims he represents the Muslims in Gatussia which is 13 percent of the country's population. President Gato is expected to hold talks with Pennsylvania Commonwealth later this week.

Mangabia is Nusantara's Luckystan?

When the Gatussian foreign secretary confronted his Nusantaran counterpart about his country's uncompromising support for Mangabia despite its poor human rights record, the diplomat from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Relations reportedly responded "abuses and wrongs of the country would soon be abolished with modernisation ... we could all demolish the old parts of Mangabia and make them a modernised and prosperous nation (sic)".

By judging Nusantara's unrelenting support for Mangabia, its protective arm around the country is not different from New Ulysses' political embrace of Luckystan - right or wrong. Luckystan receives material and economic support from the West despite being a headache for its neighbours, doing mischief in the occupied territories and its tight iron grip on the Majiestinean masses.

Mangabia is not a communist state anymore nor a socialist, it is a capitalist country without democracy. At one point UCA President Thomas Eckhart even suggested taking the hammer and sickle symbol off the country's red flag. Old Mangabia is gone, the Mangabian Communist Party and the Mangabian People's Army have turned their backs to the poor, the very same people they protected from foreign invaders.

Four years after the signing of the 50/50 partition of the Huhn Waterway, Gatussian diplomats along with wealthy investors were accompanied by a Mangabian army colonel at the Monument of the Fallen in Huhn City. There were plenty of smiles and polite conversations during the visit until a Gatussian real estate millionaire noticed a small gravestone with names of rape victims of the Second Mangabian War etched on it. A Gatussian government official later complained and demanded the removal of the stone. Instead of standing up to them the colonel covered it with a red cloth. Much worse, at the Far Central East Summit, the Mangabian President preferred not to mention the Gatussian garrison at West Huhn Waterway which is becoming problematic for the drought-stricken farmers living near the south west border for fears of losing foreign investors. Those who have won the war are now bowing down to the losers all in the name of economic growth.

Mangabia is now a middle-income country. Its GDP per capita is now 47,882 ariels thanks to the rich South Mangabians who have returned from UCA and Gatussia to rebuild and develop the country. Today, Mangabia is surrounded by hostile states mainly Gatussia and Bauza, its two giant neighbours to the north. Mangabia is lucky enough to have Nusantara and Communist Mirton as its strongest patrons.

The quelling of anti-government protests, bowing down to corrupt foreign capitalists and ignoring the proletariat and trade unions which effectively consigned socialist principles to the wheelie bin. With all these things happening, will Nusantara still support its friend and brother Mangabia and treat it as its own Luckystan?

The Warming Relations Between UCA and Mangabia

Journalist Abelle Boucher interviews Former President Aldrin Gatto, the leader who proposed the North Saralonia Peace Accords which ended the decades long Second Mangabian War.

Abelle Boucher: The current development in Far Central East is now sending chills down the spine of the administration of President Johannes Gatto Mendel. There is nothing communist in Mangabia today and therefore has attracted investments from democratic Western nations. Mr President does UCA's warming relationship with Mangabia concern you?

Former President Aldrin Gatto: Not at all, we cannot help Mangabia grow economically, so we are lucky to have the UCA to clean the mess that we made. Mangabia is now a middle income nation and what happened to them is a miracle. The Huhn River has made us prosperous and so to them. There is no reason for us to fight over water. We are grateful to the Mangabians because they worked hard as custodians of the waterway and we exploited the resources from it. The river turned our nations green. Mangabia does not pose a threat to our national security, even if they buy a squadron of F-15s from UCA, it makes no difference.

Abelle Boucher: Will another war break out?

Former President Aldrin Gatto: Many analysts say that there is no way Mangabia can win a war with Gatussia unless Nusantara and Mirton intervenes. My cousin Johannes is not crazy enough to start a war in which our country will fight on three fronts. Like what I said there is no reason for us to fight over water anymore. Johannes build the garrison in West Huhn only to win votes because he is so unpopular. If there is election tomorrow I can beat him. But I was unconstitutionally removed because New Ulysses wanted the oil beneath the Huhn River.
