Glad to know you view perjury so lightly.

More serious than abuse of power, obstruction of Congress and extortion apparently.

Who here claimed it was more serious? Also, it's still pretty damn serious.

I never said those weren't serious crimes. I merely asserted that they might not have sufficient evidence to credibly convict in Trump's case but, again, this thread doesn't exist so we can quibble over impeachment. It's here so we can say "orange man bad" in different ways. I'm probably going to write a long post on the ecological impacts of the Trump presidency at some point since I'll be back at school soon and have time to kill before classes.

The extortion charge is silly and not something Trump was impeached for, abuse of power is a hallmark of the modern presidency, and obstruction of congress only applies to the witnesses who refused to comply.

My God. A president who had an extramarital affair? Who thought that possible?

Seriously; what Clinton did pales in comparison what Trump is alleged to have done.

That's the thing of it. People said " but he committed perjury!!!!!" Yes; that is a bad thing. However, it was for a question that didn't need to be raised. How was the US threatened by this?

People forget the investigation started because of Whitewater and when they couldn't get a case for that; they leaped on on the blowjob event.

What part of "NOT Impeachment" in the thread title are you having trouble with?

The fact that discussing a president who has been impeached will intrinsically involve his impeachment and trying to separate it into two different discussions where in one we never mention it is intrinsically silly and means that this is your life now.
"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

Yes, but with a perfectly good impeachment thread right there, it should be simple for someone to say, "Yes, but we should take this over to the impeachment thread." And trust me, you have no idea what my life is like now.

So we can't just merge or move the impeachment thread here because...?

Because it would create an almost 600 page thread? I set it up this way because I thought keeping the two apart would keep the topics in one thread from muddying the arguments in the other. No one seemed to object. *shrug* Go open a request in Moderation and let one of the other Mods make a decision. I don't really care.

And I shouldn't tell you this, but we're considering instituting forum-wide megathreads, rolling up threads that start with specific letters of the alphabet into one. All the As, all the Bs, you know. So combining impeachment and not impeachment wouldn't really matter.

I'll admit to engaging in the threadjack as well but I ducked out of that argument principally because we're not supposed to talk about impeachment here. So it wasn't just you. We were all very naughty and Farn was just giving us a gentle suggestion to get back on topic before she got out the mod swatter. Anyway, I'm back at uni so expect eco-post soon.

Even if we hadn't killed him and someone else had, Iran would still have blamed us and acted accordingly. Really, Trump's stumble was in casting aside his plausible deniability and we might not even have had that given the circumstances.
