If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you. | Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’
James 1:26-27, Matthew 7:21-23

Sedge! Good to see you around again!

To save me from having to read all the new ones first (I'll get round to that), have I missed the boat on submitting issues on...

  1. A South Africa-esque "Truth and reconciliation commission"
  2. Black Friday craziness
  3. Lack of interest in engineering-type roles
  4. Stoning
  5. A USSR-esque nation handing out medals?

Because I have some drafts I'd like to finish, but there's no point if someone's beaten me to the punch.

I can't think of any issues other than the Black Friday one. I had a little search and couldn't find any existing issues on those subjects -- though, RE: the lack of interest in engineering, you may want to be aware of the existence of #948, which is about the lack of women in STEM fields (although from a more mathematic perspective, so I don't think it presents overlap).

Just to give an update that Frieden-und Freudenland has decided to step down as an Editor due to RL commitments. On behalf of the whole Editing team, I want to wish FuF well and to thanks them for all the work they've put in behind the scenes.

Black Friday has indeed been done, as mentioned, and as Joy mentions there's one on women in STEM.

Re: stoning, I'd also note that #632.3 has the effect line "men's magazines give handy tips on the most effective way to throw heavy stones" and 318.5 has the effect line "innocent people are routinely stoned to death by frenzied lynch mobs". Aside from that, stoning hasn't been directly referenced.

(So It looks like these sort f posts got here now?)

I got issue 1273(Also, seriously we're already up to the 1,200's?)
The Politics Department at the University of Stag City has come under criticism from opposition politicians because the programme is clearly and unashamedly biased in favour of you, Sébastien Larousse, and your political ideologies.

The Debate
“This is immoral! The university faculty is so biased, they may as well just call themselves your official fan club,” complains Opposition Leader Rex Kardashian, quickly hiding a dartboard bearing your face behind his back. “Universities should have a balanced syllabus, not be indoctrinating young minds into some cult of personality. For the sake of democratic freedom, you must institute measures to ensure non-biased teaching in all universities, and political balance of opinion within teaching staff.”

“This is not about partisanship; it is about academic autonomy,” retorts Politics Professor Yasmin Reid, signing a copy of her latest book Why Kardashian Smells of Fish. “We, as a faculty, just so happen to choose to support your politics. And we just so happen to attract a capable staff who are all like-minded. It is our absolute democratic right to set our own syllabus, without interference from government! You, being one of the wisest leaders that this nation has ever seen, must surely see this!”

“I have to say, you’re really popular with the politically enlightened Stag City graduates, and that can only help at the polling station,” points out election campaign manager Daenerys Xiaoping. “Maybe you’d have an even stronger majority if we named that university a ‘flagship centre of education’, and put them in charge of setting the national university-level political syllabus.”
and I can't decide how to answer it, and I think it comes down to a critical missing detail in the description, namely, is this a public or a private university?

If the university is public. Then the opposition leader is essentially arguing that a government institution should not be used to promote the leader's platform; while the professor is arguing that it's acceptable for public resources to be used for this purpose if the staff of that institution support the leaders policies.

If however the university is private then the opposition is essentially arguing that the government should prevent private institutions using their own funds to promote their own views, and encourage them to promote his views; while the professor is arguing that private institutions should be allowed to use their resources in whatever way they see fit.

In short the question of whether people are using their own funds to promote their politics or government funds significantly changes the context of the dilemma, but can't be inferred from the text.
A popular Government, without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a Prologue to a Farce or a Tragedy; or, perhaps both. - James Madison.

If the issue were to tell you that universities are or aren't state-funded, then that would be viewed by most to be a player autonomy violation, especially as there's no policy tracking such a thing.

Just answer the issue according to what is true for your nation.
