A Beach Feast (IC)

Postby The Selkie » Sun Dec 22, 2019 2:16 am

Hello and welcome to A Beach Feast!
If you want to participate, please apply and wait for being accepted on this OOC. Otherwise, you are of course welcome to read along!

And without further ado... let the fun begin!

Pléaráca Beach, Tearmann Island Resort.
Amy Ramallae of the Tribe of Monaghan.

I smiled slightly.
I was a student of veterinary medicine at the University of Launceston and model for Bicíní Industries, a major clothes producer in the Free Lands. We were famous for our swimwear, like I wore right now, a backless, dark one-piece casual swimsuit, which nicely complimented my silver, long hair, my red eyes sparkling as I watched Cealg play in the surf.
Cealg was a Lapa, one with a grave disability: The small, blue animals, also known as Sea Foxes, had poison glands, which allowed it to secrete poison through its skin, which was both a defensive mechanism and a hunting mechanism. Cealg, however, didn't have these glands.
When I found him, in 2015, he was close to dying and I decided to use my studies in order to find out, what was wrong with him. In the time it took me to realize that, I had... not really 'domesticated' him, but he was used to human presence and human petting. Since 2017, we began selective breeding with his genetic material, beginning the long and arduous process of domestication of the Lapa.
In any case, he was back home: Leuda was way colder, way wetter and simply less tropical then the Archipelago and so it was important for him to go back. He was lively here, playing in the surf of Pléaráca Beach.
It was no problem to bring him back with me, both from the traveling standpoint and from BI's point of view. In fact, Auntie Eithne had invited him as well - and so it came, that my room in the Pléaráca Hotel, I had spent the last two weeks with a Lapa snuggled up to me, and three other young women, who were also models.
The last two weeks, we had done the Archipelago Shooting, the large shooting of photographs for the catalogue of next year, specifically for the swimsuits and summer clothes, as well as going-out clothes. Elin and Branwen had been allowed to release some images on Piffle, of them in the clothes, but they had only showed a small glimpse.
We had, this Archipelago Shooting alone, been fifty models and about the same amount of staff - especially of the latter, much had already departed for Launceston and home, a city at the Icy Shore, close to the Arctic Circle, which was so much unsuited for swimwear as it could be.
So... we still had finished work and our boss, Mister Finnegan Drisiúr of the Tribe of Cork, invited us all to an aftershow party, not only celebrating the successful conclusion of the Shooting, but also Cailleach's Feast, the feast of one of the Weather Goddesses of our faith, to which one gathered the family for one, huge feast. Over the last few years, we had often been joined by others vacationing on the Tearmann Island Resort, informally, but this year, we had made it official, with posters and formal invitations and everything. We expected around a hundred to two hundred additional people. And there was enough food and alcohol and non-alcohol to go around for all of them.
It would be fun!
I smiled as an arm wrapped around my waist, tanned and belonging to a tanned blonde with beautiful eyes, who was wearing a bikini, a simple shirt over it, but no pants. Filicia Eitpheil of the Tribe of Cavan, we called her Filly, studied fisheries science and was specialized on these waters, which made her a bit of my colleague.
"He's cute.", she said and watched Cealg. I hummed in agreement. "May I pet him later?"
I turned to her with a smile. Filly had already given Cealg a petting of a lifetime, together with her sister, another Amy. She shrugged and I nodded. "Sure, why not?", I told her. "So... how are the preparations coming along?"
"We are still awaiting the last cart, but once that's here, we can get the ball rolling!", Filly said with a grin.
Indeed, we had three carts, horse-drawn, two-axle carts, to move all the material back and forth between Pléaráca Hotel and the beach around a kilometer away from it, two of which had already arrived and were unloaded.
The beach itself was eight kilometers long, the cove itself roughly five kilometers across. In the north, it was bordered by the Fiántas Cliff and the old watchtower ruin up there, the large flag on it saying to those in the know, that it was currently held by the Younger Militia of Dumhach (a small token of gratitude and respect towards the City's Mayor, who was already present and an old friends of ours), to the south by Sruthán Creek, which separated it from Céad Beach. A few campfires were already being set up and the large bonfire, which would be used to grill the bull boar, was ready to be lit as well.
Around a hundred meters inland, the jungle began, a road cutting through it to the hotel. Although most dangerous critters had already been relocated, 'most' did not mean 'all', so we would have to have a few eyes on the kids.
There were dozens of people already present, dressed in swimwear like I was, some with light jackets or rash guards over the shoulder, some wore other light clothes, I even saw some summer dresses - it was to be a warm night, the forecast had said, so it was only natural to dress lightly, even if some still dressed formally, like that Lutetiian businessman with the long dark hair, who wore long sleeves and gloves, while his apprentice/secretary (at least that was her job to my understanding) showed her well-rounded form in a combination of a white bikini and denim shorts. Had to ask her, where she got the bikini later, it looked cute...
Anyway, kids were running around, too, they would be sent to bed at ten, then the taps would open. We had already a group of more or less responsible adults at the ready, who would either get them to bed immediately or who would play a few games with them before bedtime, depending on how the mood was.
We would have music, our newlyweds would take care of that, we would have games, food, drinks, conversation and generally a merry time - it would be a lively night, that was for sure, this Feast on a Beach!
I play PT, MT and a bit FT. I am into character-RPs.
My people are called the Selkie, the nation is usually called the Free Lands in MT-settings. Thanks.

For Karen and Jason along with Marvin it had been a long day and the beach event was to be the culmination of a worthwhile holiday in the Free Lands of the Selkie for the trip, at least for Jason was also not just a holiday for he had also been out trying to get some possible leads for shipping of goods back in his homeland, the Aurora Confederacy whilst for Karen it was a holiday. Marvin however, he just took everything in his stride however he spent most of the time trying to get fusses and attention, largely by trying to act cute and innocent and be a total goofball, oh for Marvin its a hard life being a cat!

Travelling from one end of the Selkie to the other does however have its advantages, even though various modes of transport have been employed and now, travelling on the local public transport to the Tearmann resort means that some valuable rest can be gained, well for some at least. Marvin however had other ideas, everytime someone walked past him he would meow, softly and if that didn't work, he'd try again on either Karen or Jason, however he couldn't go very far for he was on a harness and leash!

At the resort
Karen and Jason checked in their bags for the day, but took with them a small rucksack along with a small ball for Marvin to play with, yet on the sand the first thing Marvin did was to roll around in it, its sand and he's never been to a beach before and it felt good, rolling around in the soft beach sand that seemed to form the pathways around the resort, it was thought Marvin, a possible way to get even more attention!

"Finally, Karen, lets go down to the shoreline, see whats what" commented Jason, flicking a catch on the recoil leash.

"Aye, sounds like a plan, then later on we can get changed, just watch your balance in the sand" replied Karen with a smile towards Jason before turning her gaze to Marvin, "Oi, Marvin, no you dont!"

Marvin however chose to ignore Karen, after all, thats what cat's do, instead he chose to jog over to the side, have a look at something vaguely resembling something he thought was interesting before returnining to Jason.

On the beach, Karen and Jason made their way over to an area that would be suitable,
"well, looks a nice spot, sands not too soft and looks like we could get a fire going and over there i think is possibly some drift wood, but over there is somewhere where we can get some wood to burn too, just got to be careful of the snakes" comments Jason.

Dumping their bags on the floor, Karen then reaches into Jason's bag and pulls out a fold out shovel and begins to dig,
"how big we need it?" she asks

"bout a foot and a half deep, three across" replied Jason,

and so it was, the preparations began, Karen digging the fire pit as Jason headed off to get some wood from the tide line

Postby AHSCA » Sun Dec 22, 2019 10:53 am

A few months prior to this wonderful engagement, Chief Ayla of the AHSCA Island of Corona found herself settling in for the rainy "summer" in AHSCA as she usually did. Things tended to slow down and there wasn't usually much concern about matters of the state or nation at large. Enjoying a game of chess with her protege, Miela, the Congressional Minority leader, this rainy morning she carefully pondered every move she could make. Politics she kept tabled perfering good company and good tea with a friend. Miela made her move and Ayla made her move.

"You never told me, how did you get into chess, mia estro." Miela pondered.

"Kino taught me."

"Aaah, never thought that much."

"Well Kino's foreign lineage made him a different kind of Chief a different kind of person overall." Some days it was hard for Ayla to talk about her departed husband, other days not as much. Honestly rainy days made it feel easier because it brought back more warm pleasant memories than the horrors of the war.

"Speaking of which...." Reaching into her pockets, Miela pulled out a still perfectly pressed invitiation. A special invitation to a party, a beach party in the Archipelago region of the Freelands Tearmann Island Resort. "Maybe you'd like this."

Ayla read it, nearly ready to just toss it aside, she never really traveled abroad. "Some kind of party?"

"It's not really any kind of political engagement, so no worries about violation of your office. Given we're on 20 years since --."

"22" Ayla corrected

"20, 22 either way, you should not have to stay cramped up for a change, mia estro."

"Why don't you use it? Take Pacifica with you and go on a romantic outing. I think a party like this sounds pretty formal in some way, don't see why they'd want a chief of a tiny little island state."

"Ahaha. Well the thought crossed my mind. Fine if you must know, this invite has passed a few hands. First the desk of Her Majesty, of course Duchess Villa has thrown caution to the wind yet again and is joining on a Naval Acclimation voyage with the young cadets. Followed down to Lady VinoCacao who is with her family on Animalpolis, Lady Gozen who is deep in the throws of writing a novel and to Pacifica and myself. As such her little one is bedridden with a fever..."

Ayla looked up with concern for Pacifica's little girl "She's fine, she's fine," Miela assured "it's a case of Musono Sickness it'll pass in a few weeks. But either way no way Pacifica would leave her little girl and I'm not in much mood to brave the oceans right now so here it is for you."

"Oh and I am? I'm not the sailor Her Majesty is."

"No but you are one tough amazonian woman. Tougher than me, I'd say..." Miela looked Ayla square in her eyes "mia amiko" Changing My Chief for My Friend, she was serious.

Ayla sighed a little "All right. But if they throw me out because I'm not the one they expected, you, Miela, I'll have the Duchess reassign you to Naval Acclimation for the next year."

Admittedly the Acclimation program was Miela's worst experience in her conscription to the point she barely made it through. She got a chuckle out the threat though.

"And you're not just trying to get me out of the country so you can stage a coup and take my place, are you?"

Again a laugh from Miela "Only if I want to trade the threat of KP on acclimation for being strung from the yard arm."

"I'm not sure execution is enough. I think a year in Black Island would do you better. Then I'd kill you." Ayla made her final move. "Checkmate."

Miela sporting her usual devilish smile toppled over her king.

And now, the present day: Ayla's trip here was met with a small detour when she found out the Mazomban leader in Kuronami had died. She needed to pay respects for the man who probably helped changed the tide of the war for independence two-decades ago. A small pay of respects later she was offered a stay for a short time as guests of the (Maybe still) Governing Family, the Aberkombi- Envatilia but she had to decline the offer for now, promising a return visit to them soon enough. Either way she had to honor this particular invite though she wasn't sure why. Ayla stood out, her long silky hair green as seaweed, tanned skin, and of course her impressive height. 182 centimeters tall, slender build, not bad bust either she probably could look like a few of the models here. Still she felt out of place here, this seemed like a party for the high end elite but nobody seemed to mind her so far, perhaps Miela was right, it was just a party and all she had to do was look the look walk the walk and she'd fit right in.

"This is Radio Eleven-Eleven with the latest traffic update! Unless y'all have slept under a rock of the last couple of months, it won't have escaped your notice, that we're approaching the Yuletide in huge steps! And you all know what this means - long and many travels to pretty much any shop selling Yule goats, hay, lanterns - and of course, lots of drinks! If you wish to bypass the usual traffic chaos associated with the huge shopping tours, better avoid the Pontrath Orbital and bypass it by using the Highways A41, A56, B62, and B183n, until further notice. Stay tuned!"
"And until then, you're gonna hear another Rhenish classic - you might almost guess which one!"

State Road L201, near Weilerswerth. En route to Nienhagen Ferryport.
Dragan Bandera had to grin upon the memories he associated this landscape with - a country road with two cycle tracks running parallel to the road on each side, through the flat, rural landscape with small pieces of woodlands. The small town, consisting of mostly one- or two-storied houses of red bricks, separated from this landscape by a creek, with a wonderful piece of grassland to rest on. He would never forget the last time - and first time, for that matter - he had been here, sharing a horse with Amy Louth of the Tribe of Dundalk, while Macha Taise, of Cork Descent, had shared hers with Gesine Ehrlicher. An awesome trip, even though that path had actually just been taken by accident - bringing two horses, but not having a trailer around, had required some creativity when it came to the means of travel. But in an unusually warm January, with the sun shining brightly, this hadn't been much of a deal.
Yeah, these memories … it felt like a damn long time ago - and it was, actually, almost a year. Many things had happened since then, including a separation between Dragan and Amy - in good terms, mind you. In spite of that, this visit had been simply unforgettable, making new friends and meeting old ones. Another blast from the past.
But there was no time to stop and stare.
"Are we still on time?" - Christopher Riescheid, Chris for short, wondered.
"As long as I drive, we are!" - Dragan said, laughing - and accelerated.
Like most roads, this connection from Nienhagen over Luntrop and Weilerswerth to Butendonk, always running parallel to the Elverholm North Shore, had a story: being a historical trade route Macha had remembered too well, it had been upgraded to a causeway in the 19th century, asphalted in the 1920s, and numbered as Federal Route B78 in 1981. With the Highways A2 and B173 carrying the interregional traffic, this route had been downgraded to the L201 in 1985, not being administered by federal authorities anymore. Since then, it had been a road purely for regional traffic.
And for bypassing the typical Julfest traffic on major highways, in this case.
Four eyes threw a skeptical look at the speedometer. Dragan noticed that and shrugged. "We do wish to arrive on time, eh?"
"That's the point - gas is on the right!" - Kira Hamoudaoui said.
"And don't forget to park where you should this time" - Chris reminded him. "I have my doubts, that Ralle lets you park in front of the gate that easily again."
Dragan had to grin about this particular part of memory - they had gone eat in the restaurant where they had met Gesine, then gone to Weilerswerth by horse, then had entered Janina's SUV with a horse trailer, gone to Jillich, brought Macha's and Amy's horses into the stable, gone to Janina's flat, gotten themselves a few crates of good beer and called it a day - and totally forgotten, that Dragan's car had still stood in front of the gate to the carpool at the ferry port in Nienhagen. Although Ralf Teppler, called Ralle, the parking attendant, knew both Chris and Dragan, his lenience had limits, too, and since he had a keen interest in not getting into needless trouble, Dragan had needed to swallow the pill. A pill of 20 Marks.
"Not this time" - he said, shifted down and accelerated even more.

Three days earlier. One of thousands of flats in Jillich.
All windows were open, the smoke cleared away a bit. Kira Hamoudaoui threw a few skeptical looks at the burning embers, but eventually decided, that she had chosen the right concentration of the hookah tobacco nobody could name.
Kira was 22, and in these parts, she mostly passed as a normal Student of Literature. Back home, in Shamsiyya, this was a tiny bit different - she wasn't exactly unknown as a model and an actress there, albeit in the latter case, rather in minor roles so far. More than a year ago, she had taken the chance of leaving her merry house that was the 'Ilkhanate' for Jillich as an exchange student, and with the time, she had made lots of friends in here - including the ones she shared this flat with. After long nights of discussion, especially with Erik and Schlucke, she had finally decided to not only declare the Federation her permanent residence for the time being, but also to go through the shebang of doing the citizenship test and getting a second passport, Permit A-38, and all the stuff one needed for survival in these parts.
"Ich wör dann esu wick!" - she said in perfect Rhenish, I'd be ready then!
Janina Bonrath and her girlfriend Fenja Tattrup nodded, synchronously. Already a couple of minutes ago, the tea kettle had proudly, with a loud whistle, announced, that it was ready, too. The cups were filled.
"Now there's only one around we keep waiting for …" - Dragan said, nervously checking his watch.
"Indeed" - Kira said in a dry tone, suppressing a grin. Ever since Dragan had met Leonie Theiss during a congress of media representatives in Roisweiler in mid-October - which to attend was surely a logical choice for a Media Sciences student with ambitions towards the profession of journalism, and even experience at it, and even a bit more -, they had quite been on good terms, and despite him living in Jillich and her being from the Free City of Wiedheim, they had ended up meeting on a regular basis - mostly in here, but Dragan had also already had the chance to see the somewhat mysterious city-state from inside, and also to meet the notoriously clannish Inner Circle which Leo was a part of, next to Lesley Gedeler, Saskia Rupp, Chiara Detterer … likewise, Leo had established herself in these parts as a semi-regular part of the gang.
While it seemed clear, that they were just friends - even if notably good ones -, not everyone was completely convinced, that there wasn't anything more behind that. Then again, there had been too many surprising twists in everyone's love life in the last year and a half to be entirely sure about anything. Thus, no one dared expressing any wild guesses about anybody's feelings - although Kira would have been more than willing to place a few bets in that time, especially considering that she had been right about Janina and Fenja a long time before they had found each other …
Kira's MP3 player played a more modern, chilled tune from her homelands.
Janina had a sip of tea. "No worries, she's gonna show up soon! Let's start before it gets cold!" - she suggested, meaning both the tea and the smoldering tobacco.
Kira nodded. "Yeah, I assume so …"
Fenja had a sip, too. "Time surely flies, eh?" - she said. "It's already the last hookah night before we jump into the Yuletide chaos …"
"When are you two gonna depart for Saskilde?" - Dragan asked.
"On Friday afternoon" - Janina replied and took a drag of the waterpipe.
Dragan raised his eyebrows. "Well, then good luck …"
It would be the first time Fenja's parents would meet Janina. Both had spent the Midsummer Festival down in Preetz, then had visited Janina's family in Lechelen, Fyleria, over the Winter Nights in late October. Now, they would travel over to Visholm, spending the Julfest at Fenja's place of origin.
The doorbell rang.
Dragan was already going to get up to open, but they heard a male voice which could only belong to Schlucke, "Already going!" The muffled echo suggested, that he was just leaving the bathroom.
They heard the door getting opened. Seconds later, Schlucke and Leo entered the room.
"Guude!" - Leo said, a common greeting in her native dialect. "I hope, I'm not late yet?" She sniffed the air and recognized the smell at once. "Well, obviously, I am …" She placed her handbag into the corner and took place between Dragan and Kira.
"Nah, you haven't missed a lot" - Dragan said. "How's stuff going?"
Leo took a sip of tea, raising her cup with one hand while making a dismissive hand gesture with the other. "Madness as usual!" - she said. "You know the whole monkey-dance … luckily, the holidays are gonna start soon. And I'm looking forward to being as far away from anything that remotely looks like work as possible."
"Surprise …" - Janina said and passed the mouthpiece on to Leo. She took a drag.
"The plan hasn't changed, eh?" - Kira asked. "We'll have to take the ferry stopping at Wiedheim and you're gonna enter right there?"
Leo blew the smoke off and nodded. "I'd stay here so we could use the direct connection, if I could, but I'm expected to be around when our high-ups hold the last gala of the year."
"That's logical" - Dragan said. "You got your papers ready, though?"
Leo grinned. "Because we have such a heckton of paperwork to do in the first place where I'm from, eh?"
Dragan shrugged. "Because you guys are totally known for just keeping things as they are …!"
"We prefer things as they should be, y'know?"
Kira had another sip of tea, this time not suppressing her grin. The interesting dynamics between the two of them simply never ceased to fascinate her.
Only the Gods knew where this would possibly be going someday …

Wiedheim-Überseehafen.
Unlike Dragan, Chris, and Kira, Leonie was not particularly in a hurry - mainly because she had a distinct advantage regarding having to go distances, but also because lots of paperwork indeed weren't much of an issue where she hailed from.
In the latter instance, she was quite well off, almost spoiled, compared to someone who had to go a hundred kilometers to the ferry port. All she had to do is get into the Metro (of course not without getting herself a ticket, which, however, only took her a couple of seconds) at Kesselbrunn/Thenacker, where she lived and knew anything by heart (unless she returned from some pub night at Cattenia Square), then stay in the train, in this case one of the fully automatic ones, until the Dengenbach Square Station came, change for another line, go one station to Südring, then take the line to the international port, the Überseehafen, or Iwwerseehaawe in Wiedheimer native dialect. There, each pier had its own station. Leo chose the Southern Pier, for this was the one reserved for passenger ships, taking the lift up and ending up in a huge arrival hall, which reminded of an international airport a bit, basically being a glass bunker with a stone roof and huge ceiling lamps.
From there, she needed to go to the terminal, where the usual security checks, as well as the only real paperwork awaited her - getting a stamp in her passport. From there to the actual pier, it wasn't far anymore, the way leading outside the hall, passing the access lane for vehicle drivers, various vending machines providing basic food, drinks, and other stuff - all duty-free at this point -, ATMs for the last possibility to check one's account balance, as well as a few cozy waiting areas. Leo did make use of these opportunities, including the account balance check, although she had already exchanged her travel budget into Lillorainian Marks and NSD (Gods, physical currency!) during her last visit three days ago. A huge, digital sign informed about the projected arrival and departure of the ferry from Nienhagen via Wiedheim to Dumhach.
While waiting, she got a message onto her phone - from Kira, informing her, that they had managed to arrive on the ferry on time, thanks to Dragan's driving skills. Leo grinned, typed a message back, informing Kira, that she had arrived at the international port and would be able to enter the ferry without any issues.
Further messages she received included greetings from her closest friends, all warning her in a friendly manner about what each of them considered the worst thing that could possibly happen - according to Sassy, Leo should avoid getting run over by a horse cart; Lesley considered avoiding arrow fire a logical thing to do; Chiara expressed her usual worries about the sky falling on their heads.
Let's better avoid all three things happening at the same time! - Leo thought for herself, grinning.
Vacation could come!

Pléaráca Beach, Tearmann Island Resort, Oileánra-Archipelago, Free Lands of the Selkie.
The journey with the ferry had processed without any further incidences - some had left at Wiedheim, others - including Leo - had entered, and from that point on, the only thing changing from time to time was the temperature, climbing up from one-digit temperatures to the 20s, the more the ferry went south. As a result, even people getting chilled easily stopped wearing their winter jackets, despite the cooling wind from the seas.
The ride had been so calm, that Chris, Dragan, Kira, and Leo talked about how they pitied all the people back home multiple times - they were on vacation taking their sweet time, while in the Nordic Lands, all people went crazy about Yule.
Regardless of that, everyone was glad when they finally arrived at the Oileánra-Archipelago. The huge digital sign placed at the exit told everyone, Willkommen in Dumhach! in Latin spelling and Fáilte go dtí Dumhach! in Selkie-Runes. By the side, there was the carpool Chris remembered well from last time, for this was where a very smart lad named Cladhaire had picked him up. A vulpine lad, mind you.
He and Dragan also remembered the road leading to Coileán Inn - the place where everything had started, up to the beach party some distance away. The unforgettable night where so many things had found their beginning and so many other things had found their end. Kira and Leo knew the stories - and now they also knew the background scene from it.
Hard to believe, that this was already a year and a half ago.
And here, at Pléaráca Beach, with dozens of people, most of whom in swimsuit, having gathered and now roaming around, Dragan and, especially Chris, got more of their Dumhach flashbacks. Chris recognized Amy Ramallae and Cealg, her Lapa; he had already made acquaintance with both back then, down at the wharf - by that time, not knowing, that Cealg was actually harmless, until Amy had explained this to them.
And she wasn't the only one he recognized among all the people … logically, for this was pretty much his second family, whether he wanted or not. There were some people around he hadn't seen ever since the last beach party, whereas some had been around in Launceston three months ago.
Chris and Dragan wore swimming trunks; Dragan, in addition, a light t-shirt. Kira and Leo showed up in beach attire, naturally, and saying, that they did have the figure for them was like saying, that the sky was blue - technically correct, but with 'technically correct' being the worst form of being correct, there was always some addition required in order to get truly descriptive. Especially since Kira did have some experience in the profession of modeling …
And no one had to worry, that a good steak from a Bull Boar would change anything about their figures. And this was only one thing out of many to look forward to tonight!

"Not only a certain feeling of inner tension starts to take hold of one, and increasing, the more one absents oneself from one's own place of birth, but also an all but inenarrable mixture of excitement, fear, and adventurous spirit. One never knows what will await one at the next street corner - but one can almost always be sure, that it will come unexpected. No matter where Us Ezen's Rivers take one, no matter when, and no matter why - one will need to be prepared for the next challenge in virtually every moment. And sometimes, such places can be found remarkably closer to one's own home than one might anticipate."
– Yelda Altanereg, A Steppe Mare In The Lands of Dragons.

Outside the Kataijimen Bar, near the Heruheenii Building, Chouwa no Hiroba, Moukogawa, Shikonjima.
It was an awkward feeling. Although it was already dark at half past four in the afternoon, and it was December, after all - albeit nowhere as cold as in more northern countries -, the southern winds had brought warm air from the equatorial region to the West Coast of Shikonjima, making it almost feel like a late spring or summer night. From the tables and beer benches put up in front of a small, traditional bar, one could easily see the entire Chouwa no Hiroba, 'Harmony Square', in the center of which the Heruheenii stood. It was a round building in form of a Sharulsi yurt, but built of sandstone, which Shamsiyyan traders had brought in masses many centuries ago. It formed the core part of a city otherwise mostly built from traditional Shikonjimanese houses of timbers, stone, and slanted roofs - all roads led here, mostly from other squares, on the centers of which smaller variants of this yurt building could be found. This showed, that Moukogawa hadn't only been much shaped by the Sharulsi population around, but also by the global trade of many centuries. The Heruheenii, coming from the Sharulsi Mongolian term kherkheenii, 'circuit', had served as some sort of council building in former days, but was nowadays rather used as a location for traditional celebrations. It also had a metro station included.
It didn't surprise, that Yelda felt home a bit in here. A typical town square in the Ulaanels Metropolitan Area looked usually quite similar - of course, in this instance, the background music played was a bit different, yet still nice to hear.
Setsuko, Kazuo, and Yelda had spent the last couple of hours looking what this place had to offer, including a cable car ride up to the summit of the Nanayoru no Yama, the 'Mountain of the Seven Nights', from which one could see the entire city, including the Moukogawa River and the Shirogawa River mouthing into it, not far from here. After a good meal, they had decided to celebrate Yelda's arrival, with the plane from Ulaanels to Moukogawa only having arrived at 1:25 AM after some delay, in a manner considered proper in these parts. And not only in these ones.
"You picked a nice city to study in, really!" - Yelda told Setsuko.
Yelda's honorary Big Sis, studying Economics here in Moukogawa, grinned. "You should come here again in spring, when half the city is covered in cherry blossoms!"
"I’ve seen it on pictures" - Yelda said, nodding. "Toriyama was already nice, but nothing compared to this! I should have signed up for a school in here in the first place!"
"You do realize, that we would have been unlikely to meet then, eh?" - Kazuo Akayama said, grinning.
"Oh …" - Yelda pretended to be surprised, "I'd actually have thought, you would regret ever having met me, after what happened on the first weekend last year!"
"How did I know it would come up again …" - Kazuo said, sighing, but quickly finding his grin back. "But I got my revenge, and we've stayed friends after that - so what reason would be there not to be satisfied?"
Setsuko Abe, who knew what they were talking about, snorted. But she quickly got serious when she spotted the waiter roaming around, a man around forty with glasses, who looked serious. She gave him a quick wave, to get his attention, and pointed at the almost empty glasses in the little round. He bowed his head lightly and went inside again.
"Next round? We haven't even finished this one …" - Kazuo wondered.
"Not yet." Setsuko raised her glass and motioned for Kazuo and Yelda to do the same. "I'd say, let's drink to the awesome trip we're yet going to have! If the Four Souls will it."
"Kampai!" - Yelda and Kazuo echoed; then, their glasses clinked.
The Seishu, also known as Magatsuhi, 'devious spirit', for reasons which got quickly obvious to everyone who tried it for the first time and blatantly underestimated the effect of the clear rice wine Shikonjima was famous, if not to say, notorious, for, went down like oil. Naturally, the three enjoyed it more quietly - just like the effect of it.
"You know what's funny?" - Kazuo asked Yelda. "Only half a year ago, you've had your family reunion after the year of school exchange. Now you're having your reunion with us. And when you come back, you're gonna have another family reunion." He let a beat pass. "You do see where I'm going with this, right?"
Setsuko nodded, grinning.
Yelda laughed. "It does have advantages - most importantly, I'll always have something to look forward to. And at least, my life decisions tend to get accepted slowly, but surely."
"As long as you keep respectful, no matter if you might not like what you're being told, it's all fine" - Setsuko warned.
Yelda had to grin. Of course, Setsuko never got tired of letting the Big Sis hang out.
"No worries!" - she said. "Either they do deal with it, or they will deal with it."
Setsuko grinned again, raising her eyebrows and taking the last sip of her Seishu in her glass, before the waiter would bring new drinks. It appeared somewhat strange, but also amazing to her, how little sense of hierarchy and subordination some gaikokujin showed in some situations. Being someone's honorary Big Sis was of little meaning, if one's kouhai was used to Sharulsi tribal hierarchies with their lightly more horizontal nature, and while she had known Yelda for quite some time now and was aware of that, their start back then had been somewhat bumpy. But as time had gone by …
"Always getting your way, eh?" - Kazuo said. "You should be careful, though - it could get you into hot water someday."
Yelda made a dismissive hand gesture. "My uncle keeps telling me that all the time. No worries, I'm gonna be careful." A beat passed. Yelda grinned at Kazuo's skeptical glance - she was aware, that he was genuinely worried about her, after some stories he had heard. "Really!"
"Sure, like the one time you've insisted on going on patrol with him, eh?"
"Could I possibly have foreseen, that he was going to chase a bank robber through the city?"
"No, but you could have gotten out and taken the Metro home."
Setsuko raised her eyebrows again. "What have I missed?"
"Oh, one of the stories she told me on Teamspeak …" - Kazuo said, not without pride.
A beat passed.
Setsuko looked at Yelda, in a manner only a Big Sis could look at her Little Sis - the typical glance demanding and worrying at the same time. "Ikimasu!" - she said. "I don't wish to be the one who is totally uninformed about everything!"
While the waiter brought the next round of drinks, Yelda began to tell …

Four months ago. Near the headquarters of the Ulaanels Police Department, Ulaanels, Sharulsi Khanate.
Inspector Tömörbaatar Altanereg had been surprised about his only 15-year-old niece awaiting him at the Police HQ of the UPD - and not in a positive way. He was aware, that Yelda planned to do her Service at the UPD in a few years, also collecting some experience - and ignoring all of his warnings. His pleasure also was
limited, to say the least, about her asking him to take her on a patrol all the time, arguing, that she needed some insight, after all, before making the final decision - and why wait with that before signing up for the Service, if one could just as easily get this insight right now? Of course, knowing the risk, he had always said, "Someday." - and this didn't satisfy his curious niece. Now, she seemed to have decided to just show up at the HQ. What should possibly go wrong?!
When they passed the turnpike in the staff car, a silver-grey Irves I-21T, 2015-vintage, 272 hp, 248 km/h of maximum speed, and turned right onto the street, which wasn't that busy, considering it was early afternoon, Uncle Tömörbaatar sighed.
"So there's no way back, eh? This is likely to be a rather quiet shift - but 'likely' doesn't mean, that it definitely
will be, for one never knows what shenanigans the bad guys plan, and when, and where - for if we were psychics, we would have a way easier job. And after all, this is Ulaanels, not Bayanshand. So, no matter what happens, you stay in the car! Capisce?"
Yelda smiled, indicating a salute. "Roger, sir!"
He hummed, hoping, that she would take a warning of his seriously for once. While they passed the Uulyntolgod City Park, with one of these iconic pavilions shaped like a yurt in the center, surrounded by a small pond, on the one side, and on the other side, old, grey stone houses with slanted roofs - which had served as the Craftspeople's district in times of the Khaganate and still was a district inhabited by workers and their families -, Tömörbaatar thought about this. "It isn't the first time I hear that, and it won't be the last time …" - he said. "And my advice tends to be ignored quite a couple of times." He let a beat pass. "Luckily, you will soon have the opportunity to ask your Aunt Delgerzayaa about this."
Yelda snorted. "Will do! Maybe she'll also have an advice as to how to convince you to finally get over her decision after all these years."
"It wasn't a particularly smart move to just follow the guy she hardly knew to Lillorainen, an entirely foreign country to her she didn't even speak the language of" - Tömörbaatar insisted. "Especially not with a baby of just a few months of age."
"And said baby is 28 years old now and known as Saran Kiyat - or, in the local horseriding scene, as the 'Mongol Blitz'" - Yelda said. "I only know her from WhoTube and various imageboards, and I'm looking forward to their visit. And if you ask me, you should show up, too. It's not like Aunt Delgree had done anything wrong - she smelled an opportunity and used it."
"Mhm …" - Yelda's Uncle said and shrugged while holding the steering wheel, before he turned right, following the Ikhuulzam, the 'Great Ridge Road', a four-lane urban main road connecting the city center with the business district, the harbor district, as well as the highways leading into the red deserts and green steppes outside the city - and, of course, Shinekhot, the Khanate's capital with the incredibly creative name meaning 'new city'.
Yelda grinned. "Looks like you're not the only one whose advice tends to be ignored, eh?"
Now Tömörbaatar had to grin. He was surely thinking something particular now - but a gentleman never tells.
In this moment, the police radio beeped three times. After a short static, a voice was to hear. "Erslen 4 for HQ! Come in, Erslen 4, over!"
Erslen ... meaning 'lioness'. The radio call of the UPD radio patrol cars.
Tömörbaatar frowned for a moment, then picked the radio up and replied, "HQ, this is Erslen 4-1! Erslen 4-1 listening - over!"
"Erslen 4-1, we have an holdup attack on Tsagaanus Commercial Bank, District 19! One perpetrator, male, black mask and clothes, about 175 centimeters of size. Loot: around two-hundred and fifty thousand Tögrögs! He is on the run, Nersakr Avenue in southern direction! Patrols are taking up pursuit! Over!"
Tömörbaatar let this information sink for a second, then replied, "Roger, HQ! We're close by! Over!"
"Roger! Caution, the perpetrator's armed with a machine pistol! Over!"
    "Roger! Anybody damaged?"
    "Negative, over!"
    "Roger."
Intuitively, Tömörbaatar turned the blue lights and the horn on, shifted a gear down, accelerated - and suddenly noticed an important detail. Someone was sitting on the passenger seat.
And this someone said, "What are you waiting for? Burn the rubber!"
Tömörbaatar didn't have the time to think about this - especially since he knew, that he wouldn't be able to convince Yelda to just get out.
"If I say, 'down', you'll go down, okay?" - he said. "This car isn't bulletproof, and neither are you."
"Roger." Yelda surely wasn't afraid of much, but she wasn't suicidal, either. Tömörbaatar was already wearing his bulletproof vest, but the other one was in the trunk. There was no time to stop and get it out.
In thoughts, Tömörbaatar decided not to let his brother and sister-in-law know about their daughter tagging along this operation. They surely wouldn't be particularly pleased.
A nice, quiet afternoon shift … yeah, so much for that.
"Erslen 4-1?" - the voice from the radio called.
"Erslen 4-1 listening" - Tömörbaatar replied.
"Erslen 4-1, perpetrator's escaping in a dark green Irves I-16. Registration number: Zero-seven, dash, six-six-one, Lima, Sierra, two! I repeat - Zero-seven, dash, six-six-one, Lima, Sierra, two! Over!"
    "Roger! Which direction? Over."
    "National Route UZ-18, north."
"Anyone else in the car aside from him?"
"As far as we can see, negative."
    "Roger."
While heading for the highway entrance with an insane speed, Tömörbaatar tried not to let Yelda feel what he was thinking - technically, everything could happen now. As soon as there wasn't any further information on that guy, the possibilities were endless, especially since he was armed.
Yelda, on the other hand, leaned back. This was exactly what she was here for.
"… and in the end, he crashed into a bridge pillar and could be arrested safely" - Yelda concluded, shrugging, as if this were the most normal thing under the sun. "It might sound like a scene from some action series, but I do think, we all know, that reality is nowhere near that. Exceptions confirming the rule, of course."
Kazuo snorted - Setsuko, however, had kept a worrying glance throughout the entire story. As Yelda finished, she said, "Okay … then we should probably pray to all deities known to us, that you aren't going to attract dangerous situations during this trip …"
"No worries" - Yelda said. "Neither Uncle Tömörbaatar, nor Shiruko-Hime are anywhere close to where we're planning to go - and especially in the Free Lands, car chases and shady lads with firearms are as unlikely to await us as a hovercraft full of eels."
"From your lips to the Four Souls' ears …" - Setsuko said.
"Kampai!" - Kazuo said, raising his glass.

Pléaráca Beach, Tearmann Island Resort.
It had been a long travel, and, contrary to Setsuko's worst fears, they hadn't been in serious danger in any moment. Well, those two very talkative and quite pushy guys around Setsuko's age they had shared their compartment with on the train ride from Samadra to Jayakarang had somewhat kept them from fully enjoying the tropical, hilly landscape of Democratic Semporna a bit, but all in all, they had stayed friendly and calm. However, they were glad, that these two guys didn't accompany them at the long ferry ride from Jayakarang to the Oileánra-Archipelago …
And there, they were. The pictures they had seen on the internet hadn't promised too much - they had seen kilometers of beautiful beach along the seas and local native plants, and what they saw was what they got. And most certainly, they would get even more.
At least, one could see what Kazuo got - not only a pair of black swimming trunks and a body shape he wouldn't need to be ashamed of, but also the unofficial status of being amongst the luckiest men in the world, considering whom he was accompanied by. Yelda was wearing a dark-blue one-piece swimsuit, whereas Setsuko had preferred a dark green two-part version of it. And, by the Shikon and Ryoukami, both looked gorgeous!
Setsuko, now finally having calmed down from all her worries, smiled and told the two younger folks, speaking Shikonjimanese, "Okay, guys, just so we're along the same lines - whatever shenanigans you two might be up to from now on, be aware, that I'll have an eye on you! Maybe even two!"
"Sure thing, Setsu-sama!" - Kazuo replied. "We're going to be good role models! You know us!"
"Indeed I do - this is why I'm telling you so" - Setsuko said, failing to hide a grin.

Sabin never could get used to formal occasions. Granted, he was probably not going to be wearing any stuffy clothing-thank Elbereth-but there were still important bigwigs to impress, such was his duty as a Prince of Danceria. The gargantuan man was an impressively tone figure, and perhaps would have been expected to be some sort of action movie star, rather than the most elusive member of House Elurion. This would normally be Aceus's forte, he always seemed to know what to say, what to do, how to carry himself. Yet his lordly cousin had gradually withdrawn himself from public-or at least international-affairs.

With everything that happened, Sabin couldn't blame him. Yet honestly he was worried still...Aceus would reassure him that the "burden of publicity would be easily borne considering his strength". However...he was more of an action man, preferring to carry and just do things rather than fannagle foppish figures with flowery diplomacy. Sabin surveyed the shimmering turquoise horizon of Tearmann Island, before seeming to nervously regard the rest of the company present. In his current attire he cut himself as an average tourist wearing trunks and a t-shirt, rather than any form of blueblood, which could be said of a great many people present. How would he know who was whom? Who was a VIP, and who was an average joe?

Steeling himself with a deep breath, he simply recalled Aceus's words. Be courteous towards all, though not overmuch to allow for the individuality to shine. This was meant to be a feast, after all...

Also without bodyguard or much fanfare, the Persian man draped a beach towel around his neck and carried a bag, presumably holding additional towels, water, and sunscreen. While the Selkie-Lands were more of a temperate realm with a variety of biomes, he certainly enjoyed the appeal of a more mediterranean clime rather than the stereotypical tropics that beaches were sadly associated with. He frankly had had enough of the overbearing heat.

The man had arrived prior to a certain Prusso-Polish lass-who was a good friend-he would insist to any and all tabloids and potential gossip-mongers. While the official reason was to cut deals with the local Selkie manufacturing companies, either directly as Commander Unit 777 or one of the Saranidian Revolution's front or sympathetic organizations...for now he just wished to enjoy the weather

He was of course, one Suleiman Al-Salek, Commander of Unit 777, Schrodinger's Terrorist, part-time Imam and currently, suffering from jetlag. With a somewhat undignified yawn, sleepy-dark eyes took in the company before him.

Who invited a bunch of country kids to a party? Why Miss Macha of Cork Descent that's who. Striking up some conversation on PiffleNet one day next thing he knew, Joshua Allen was invited to a party. But a party is no fun alone so he invited his two siblings along, his little brother and sister, Bianca and Jonah. Bianca invited her friend Isabel along, Isabel also invited her mother given her mother was in fashion and clothing herself but as such her mother couldn't make it so a family friend, model named Kara de Kristalo, a model from Kuronami's Mazomba region, friend of Sirin Cano, mutually with Isabel by that extent. She was happy to be getting some time to hang with others of her profession from abroad and have a fun relaxing time. Honestly she liked kids, traveling with a handful of them didn't bother her and both the girls were well bred and behaved. The boys, well boys will be boys in the end she supposed.

Bianca was happy always to be spending time with her BFF, Isabel. the two met and at first didn't get along very well but before long they were inseparable. They both had their faithful companion teddy bears, a product of Piffle Toys, September for Bianca, when she got him in September, and the more Greek origin Kronos for Isabel, time. Bianca was happy to be with her BFF and bear but Isabel was especially happy, as Bianca was more than just her loyal BFF she had a major crush on her. Just puppy love? Perhaps but the Allen parents (Bianca's mother and father) were childhood friends, high school sweethearts and now husband and wife. Maybe the same would happen for her and Bianca when they got older. Even though they came from different worlds, Isabel a wealthy heiress of a young single mother, Isabel the farm girl of a nuclear family, it didn't matter. They also shared a dance on the boat deck that carried them from Caloris to here. It had been a fun voyage honestly, not too bad, only rough in a few spots but not a long scary stormy voyage they were told they probably would have. Though that was to Isabel's mild disappointment because that would give her and Bianca an excuse to cuddle. Maybe on the way back she'd get lucky. ("Ack should have gone to AHSCA" she though to herself, they always seemed to have good storms) Isabel was relived it wasn't super scary and more fun she could have with Isabel and her family along the way. Hopefully the journey back would be the same.

The younger brother, Jacob, he was the middle child of the family. Energetic, friendly and for sure boyish growing into early adolescence as he had his eye on girls and enjoyed the female figure plenty.. His favorite series of books was Layla of the Jungle, no shortage of thrilling adventures and a little eye candy about a tall busy Amazonian beauty and her adventures.

And one more along for this trip, Sono de Turoj now girlfriend of Joshua. Joshua taking Macha's words of advice and just leaping at asking the two girls who caught his eye. One was taken, oh well not much can be done about that, the other was Sono. Sono a girl who'd been living in their little town for about a year now, having moved up from Mazomba had been having a harder time acclimating to the change of setting, mostly the colder weather and Joshua was the man of her dreams to help her with that. What was in their future together, wedding bells? Would she become a farmer's wife? Would he become a sailor or fisherman if she went back to Mazomba when she was 18? Either way she couldn't deny she was just as in love with him as he was with her and whatever the future held she'd do her best to do it. She did like animals, farming didn't sound to bad and his heart seemed set on it.

In the end Joshua decided to not be declared an adult under old Kuronami law and he'd wait until he was 18 when it would happen regardless. that was fine, his parents left it to be his choice but he was a responsible young man, enough so to care for his two siblings, plus they had an adult with them so there wasn't much to worry about. Even though it was close to Christmas, it honestly didn't matter much that they'd be missing it, the Allen family weren't Christians anyway despite having some classical Biblical names in the bunch but mostly out of regional tradition. Their beliefs stemmed from early Selkie Pagan influences brought over in the 18th Century by their ancestors who had traveled to the lands and back for trading. Sirin was away on business anyway, so Isabel would only be with her loyal maid servant at home, Karla wasn't Christian either. So really the Holiday wasn't that big of a deal for all of them as it might be for others. Summer in Kuronami was usually just animal tending and weeding, before autumn harvests so not much work on the farm needed to be taken care of, even then Isabel saw to it that her maid would help out the good Allen family as needed. Elenore wouldn't mind, anything for her Young Miss.

Well that's everyone for ya, now it was their first real morning here, in time for the party having arrived last night. It seemed at least Sono and Jacob were no worse for wear they were up and at it first thing, Sono wanting to put on her new swimsuit she bought for this occasion. She sent away for it to have it shipped to her from Caloris and it was worth the wait, a cute pink bikini with a frilled bottom and top. She had her hair tied in long twin tails her tanned beauty shown off for the world but mostly for her boyfriend.

The younger girls had simple one pieces that complimented their personalities and girlishness, the boys simple swim trunks. Kara had a very sexy bikini indeed, jet black with red trimming that brought out her eyes. Her long silky black hair to complement her features. Showing not too much but enough to tickle the mind a little. As morning drew on everyone was ready to enjoy the day at the resort.

Everyone admired the actual resort itself, even Isabel who was used to posh upscale gatherings. Jacob however, his eyes fell over to Ayla. Actually he didn't know who she was really but his first inclination was "It's her!"

"Who?"

"That's Layla!" He broke away from the pact, Bianca called after him "Oh he'll be all right." Her brother assured "For now let's claim a spot to put our stuff down."

"Good idea." Sono agreed

Ayla of AHSCA had been standing just taking in everything and easing into her new environment when the young man approached her. "Oh, hello there." She greeted with a friendly hello, not sure who he was or what he really wanted but okay.

"M-Mi-Mi-Miss LAYLA COULD I HAVE YOUR AUTOGRAPH PRETTY PLEASE!" he shouted out with hardly a breath in between

"Uuuh..." Ayla stood preplexed "Sorry I didn't catch that, Common English not my specialty but I try. Say one more time, little boy?"

"Autograph if you'd please."

"Oh well....ummm sure?" She was really confused what did he want her autograph for. But why would she refuse a cute little boy's request. "I don't suppose you have something, I could write with?"

"Oooh uuuh..." by habit he reached down for his pockets but obviously he didn't have any on his trunks. "B---Be right back!" He dashed away to find where everyone else had gone too.

"Strange little guy...." Ayla mused still rather confused. She also thought she heard LAYLA well that was fairly similar to her name so she could have heard wrong or maybe in his nerves he added an extra letter or maybe he mistook her for someone else? She turned back to face the water again and admire the view. Well this would be an interesting day for her for sure. Jacob in meantime found his party "I'm telling you it's her, it's Layla." Jonah was mildly perplexed but who was he to crush his sibling's imagination, after all Bianca regularly talked to September like he was alive.

"Little bro, maybe so but maybe she doesn't want to be bothered?" He tried to ease him away from going back to disturbing her.

"Nah, she asked if I had a writing tool and..." He found one in the large beach bag they packed. "GOT IT! AHAHAA" Just as quickly as he arrived he raced off again carrying his book in one arm and a marker in the other.

Sono giggled while she put on lotion "He's so cute!"

"If you say so, Sono. Still rather he wouldn't bother people."

"I'm sure it's fine, if it's like he said she asked for a pen or something, she'll probably humor him. Whoever she is anyway."

"Bianca..." He turned his attention to his sister. "If you and Isabel go to the water, be careful okay and let me know first."

"Sure big bro, we will!"

Kara firmly planted a large beach umbrella in the sand "There, perfect." She said "What's with him?" She wondered about him.

"Oh he thinks he saw someone I guess, someone famous."

"I didn't know he followed modeling. But a young boy like him should I really be surprised." She giggled

"Ah I don't think a model but a character from a book."

"Aaah, such imagination. But that's what it is to be a little child. When I was that age, I remember thinking that my favorite childhood character, I begged my parents to take me to a pizza place because someone dressed in a Wally Rabbit costume would be there. Didn't matter it was a costume, to me it was a real as the sun!" She grinned

"Yeah, don't want to put a damper on his imagination, just hate it if he upset or bothered someone."

"Aww such a good big brother." Sono hugged him kissing his cheek "That's why he'll make good papa someday!"

"Hey," Bianca asked as she finished ufirling her blanket "What is the word of Papa where you're from, Sono?"

"paĉjo! And mama would be panjo."

"Hehe paĉjo Josh and panjo Sono!" Bianca grinned.

Farouk bin Abdul' Hakim and his wife, Zehra Arslan, stand on the beach, the cool sand beneath their toes, the breeze ruffling their hair and filling their noses with that salty, ocean scent.

The two were on a vacation at the Selkie. They wanted to get away from the stress of work at home.

It had been hard lately. Farouk's friend, Ibn Marwan, was instilling a bunch of legislations, policies, and executive orders to change his country, and Farouk had trouble keeping up. Ordering billions of firearms, sending off his brothers to foreign military academies, fixing the military, revolutionizing the navy. Not to mention the whole KA war.

Farouk had made no effort to hide who he was. He was the only son of Abdul' Hakim Hashim, the President of the Land of Islam. Ibn Marwan was one of their friends. Though younger then Farouk, he was a prominent man in the government. Apparently, his father, Marwan, was a friend of Abdul' Hakim? It didn't matter much to Farouk, anyways. When he entered the island, he was dressed in his military uniform, awards draped on his clothes, a sword in a baldric. His badge read his name in Arabic and Turkish.

His wife was Zehra Arslan. She had just one sibling, a younger sister, Halima. Zehra grew up in the desert. She lived a bedouin lifestyle. When she learned that she would be married to the Prince of the country, she nearly lost her mind with excitement. She had adjusted well to her new lifestyle, always grateful to God for the fortune she now had. It was Ibn Marwan who suggested that Farouk marry her. Ibn Marwan grew up with Zehra in the same tribe.

Now, two horse-drawn carriage rides later, Farouk and Zehra were standing on the beach. They were dressed in very modest swimwear, neither one of them showing off too much skin. They had handed their gifts off to someone, and they were now on the beach.

Farouk got to setting up chairs and things on the beach. Now, they sat comfortably and relaxed in the sun. The tropical climate was a breath of fresh air from the desert they lived in.

Now, they just waited to see what would happen.

Marionette, or Marion to her friends, could only look around in sheer bewilderment and awe in how she was able to manage to be here. Sure, she did live in New London, studied there even in fashion, and while she had travelled to visit friends and to attend conventions (Costume College in Los Angeles came to mind, that and the insanely long line of ribbons she earned there.) she never saw such accommodations as she saw when she got to the resort.

She was quite surprised when she received an invitation to go to all things a party taking place after a photo shoot, made by one of the largest clothing companies in The Free Lands, much to her confusion. While she was aware that vintage fashion was a niche on the rise in popularity, even out in Europe, she was perplexed at the idea that such a large country might be interested in possibly investing in a niche. After all, there were already similar companies that were dedicating resources to filling the needs of girls like her, American Duchess being one of them, yet they were small compared to Bicini Industries. Nevertheless, it was an opportunity to expand and she was taking that chance.

Now that she was here though, she couldn’t help but feel dazed all over again. She was more used to sharing rooms or mid-range hotel rooms like Marriott, and in the most extreme case, her tiny apartment in New London. This was different. The resort was open, spacious, and beautiful. It was quite warm as well, a stark contrast to the cold and snow in New London, and she mentally pat herself on the back for bringing some summer clothing along with her samples and her swimwear. She had continued making correspondence with the person who sent her the invitation, it was hinted that they would meet her at the beach party.

This led her to her current situation right now. She had went to her room and unpacked, then she changed into an Edwardian (1900’s) summer dress, dressing in everything period appropriate, she packed a carpet bag with her swimwear to change on the beach, and wore a boater hat and carried a parasol to protect herself from the sun. She pretty much stuck out like a sore thumb, and all she could do is stare out at the seaside, taking in the beauty and the magnitude of the event.

It was a lot to take in, and she had no idea where to start.

It wasn't everyday that Gerald found himself attending one party a day. The Branch Manager of Victoria Shipyards - Selkie Branch, the flagship overseas branch of Victoria Shipyards (and by extension, Victoria Associated Industries) had found the opportunity to relax at the beach, away from the usual activities of an overseas branch dedicated to assessing the seaworthiness of yachts from the Indomitable Spirit-class as they make their shakedown cruises prior to sailing to their buyers. That this was PR bait was not lost to Gerald; as soon as he discovered the potential, he requisitioned the Spirit of Diamond with the approval of the Big Boss himself. Say what you want about Samuel Cui, but even if he wasn't the President's brother, he knew a good PR opportunity when he saw one and was willing to give a discount to the buyer if it meant giving the company even more exposure.

Gerald came in a white suit, alighting from the yacht. On one hand, he carried two kilograms of Mindoro Liberica; on the other, a small briefcase. Inside the case were a few things: a spare change of clothes, a towel, toiletries, a tablet, and space for what he was wearing, up to and including his telescopic baton; where firearms were out of the question (and to someone from Bohol, they were rarely out of the question of defensive carry, even accounting for the intrusiveness of the province's gun laws) Gerald felt naked without a baton on his person. Scars on his torso would serve as a reminder for him; he was only fifteen during the Riots.

He made a beeline for the party as soon as he could; the show, as it was said, was about to begin.

Jerald de Leon sat in front of a desk in his hotel room as he checked the last of his work-related emails and his messages with his fiancee before she took a flight a few hours earlier. He bore a no-nonsense personality; now at the age of 29, Jerald was groomed from birth to become the next owner of De Leon Armoury, Palmyrion's largest small arms company, being raised in an environment that taught him the art of aristocratic conduct and business administration - and having graduated summa cum laude from the University of Palmyrion Aragon with a Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Science and Engineering (with a minor in Business Administration) meant that he was more than equipped to handle his clan's centuries-old business, especially at a time when Palmyrion was drenched in the blood sociopolitical turmoil as it exited the decade the same way it entered it: fighting, weary, and drenched in blood.

Jerald de Leon's induction as CEO was fairly recent, at about five months ago. Having to deal with armed extremists - Christians, Muslims, Neo-Nazis, and Stalinists - raiding De Leon Armoury warehouses and factories was quite a stretch, and Jerald de Leon decided instead to take a break for just at least a month, with his VP taking care of the business back home. His girlfriend had to re-book her flight so she wouldn't be arriving until at least twelve noon. Jerald decided he'd kill off his time for a bit, chatting with his vice president about a certain email that caught his attention the most.

"Good. Keep that railgun secure. That costs billions; it also has government funding, so taxpayer money is at stake here. Keep safe and sound. De Leon signing out."

Not bad, De Leon thought. He just wanted to unwind after a few too many close shaves with death, in a land where he's least likely to be recognised. No bodyguards, no armoured cars, no bulky and constricting concealed vests, just him and his fiancee hanging out in a beach resort - and his fiancee was arriving in two hours. De Leon dressed up in a rashguard coupled with swimming pants as he made his way to the beach proper from his hotel room. He knows his girlfriend would follow after on her own accord once she arrives.

AHSCA wrote:A few months prior to this wonderful engagement, Chief Ayla of the AHSCA Island of Corona found herself settling in for the rainy "summer" in AHSCA as she usually did.

Kuronami wrote:Who invited a bunch of country kids to a party?

In the general vincinity of Ayla.
Heardread Folracht of the Tribe of Wicklow.

I was a sight one could hardly miss - 2.17 meters tall, red hair, a square face as if chiseled out of marble, muscled to the point, that there were tree trunks slimmed then my arms, broad-shouldered enough for wardrobes to hide behind me, and dressed for the occasion: A pair of swim brief. Admittedly, they didn't leave much to the imagination, but if I found an admirer or two, I would not mind.
I could very much live with that, especially in my business!
Silvio, my old friend, who was paying his respects to Mister Drisiúr, our host, a few dozen meters away, was a bit more uptight, preferring a long-sleeved, but light shirt and long pants and I knew why. And I knew, that some lads and lassies would stand in line to have a dance with his assistant, Aurora.
In any case, my attention was focused on a woman, who I knew from images: Ayla, the Chief of Corona in the United Islands States of AHSCA. She was a beautiful, young woman, her green hair open, herself taller then many of the women present and just as well-formed.
It came as no surprise, that a young lad, I thought him to be around the age lads entered puberty, wanted an autograph. I had no idea, that his name was Jacob. Granted, around that age, I would have asked for a metaphorical spot on her metaphorical dance card, but still - despite him screwing up by not bringing anything to write, he performed well and Ayla seemed willing to humour him.
He ran to a small group of people, grabbed something to write and was on his way back - I meanwhile, approached Ayla with a huge grin: "Ah, youth... a wonderful age, full of wonders! And the age one discovers, that girls don't have cooties!", I told her with a grin as the young man was in conversation with his group. "I hope, that you don't mind me joining you for a few minutes, Miss?"

Approaching the Allen-Group.
Macha Taise, of Cork Descent.

I had been quite busy over the last few months, inviting people, who might have been interested, and convincing both Eithne and Mister Drisiúr, that the company should and could take the costs for the trips.
While Marionette had been a logical choice with her historic apparel manufacture and criticism (a market we were currently dabbling in a bit), the Allens were a bit more exotic. It was simple: Joshua, the oldest sibling, was cute, and so were his siblings. And not only that, for a bunch of simple farm-kids, they had rather interesting connections, namely to Isabel Canno, who was the daughter of Sirin Canno, as in Canno Textiles.
Mostly, however, it was because Joshua was cute.
And, as it appeared, taken, but that never stopped an old vixen from having fun!
I was blonde, my long hair bound back with a red ribbon, my violet eyes sparkling, my body dressed into a violet bikini with a translucent sarong complimenting my hips. The most remarkable feature of mine, however, aside from the pair of large milk dispensers, was a pair of fox ears with golden fur and a tail of the same colour, which swished behind me.
I smiled as I approached the little group, recognizing Kara de Kristalo, a fellow model and quite a good looking one - with a very good taste in swimwear, one had to say, the black bikini looking very sexy on her. I was sure, that some of the lads would want to dance with her.
Anyway, I smiled at Joshua as I approached. I saw him and a young woman, a blonde with darker skin and green eyes, hugging and her kissing his cheeks.
I cleared my throat with a grin as I addressed the group, stopping a bit away from the beach umbrella and grinned, my tail wagging slightly in excitement.
"I hope, that I am not interrupting?", I asked, my tone almost teasing, and then proceeded, hopefully jogging his memory: "I'm Macha - we spoke over Piffle, Joshua. Welcome to the Archipelago, everyone!"

Aurora Confederacy wrote:For Karen and Jason along with Marvin it had been a long day and the beach event was to be the culmination of a worthwhile holiday in the Free Lands of the Selkie for the trip, at least for Jason was also not just a holiday for he had also been out trying to get some possible leads for shipping of goods back in his homeland, the Aurora Confederacy whilst for Karen it was a holiday.

Filly and I were still watching Cealg play in the surf as he suddenly stopped.
He straightened, then went a bit lower to the ground.
I knew, what that meant: He smelled someone or something, which piqued his curiosity, maybe his youthful curiosity or his hungry curiosity.
Whatever it was, I looked into the direction he was looking into: A young man with a prothestic leg, who seemed to be collecting firewood from the tide line.
Filly turned to him as well, grinned and raised her arm, waving in greeting: "Heya!", she called to him with a huge, face-splitting grin, "Good evenin'! How do ya do?"
I joined her wave.

An ancient Spiorad like me could not find novelty in many things anymore, as he had quite literally seen everything by now - even the new electronic gadgets people came up with only held limited enjoyment to me. So, what could an ancient being like me do to see something new and exciting?
Look out for what I knew to be the most exciting and powerful thing in the whole, wide world: Love. I know, it sounds clishee, but love, it was what moved people, excited people, made them do things and made them looking towards the future.
And the love between my assistant and Celina Treoraí of the Tribe of Louth and a lad from Lillorainen, a certain Christopher Riesched, had moved mountains already.
So, I was quite happy to see him, wearing swim trunks and surrounded by friends, who he took along - friends, which would require introduction later on, but that could wait for a moment. I grinned and snapped my finger lightly. I think, that I recognized Dragan...
Anyway - a pair of Little Black Foxes, Cleanóirili in our tongue, joined my side. One was an old, iron lady, she was Garbh - the matron and oldest of my Black Foxes. She was sedate, while Soiprigh , the young chap to my other side, was adventurous and young. He had enjoyed a lot of petting already, from busty women and not-so-busty women and I knew, that some people envied the little rascal!
Still, with them following me by my feet, I made my way forward, towards Chris, smiling and stretching out my arms: "Chris, hello!", I said in English. Although I, as they said, batted for the other team, he held little interest to me. He was taken and obviously from that side of the river. "It is good to see you again, my dear lad!"
My red eyes sparkled with excitement, my long, white hair being bound back by a yellow ribbon, the fox ears on my head perked up, while the tail swished - Soiprigh was almost distracted by them until the scent of a human familiar to him reached his nose.
It was the human his Mommy loved!
The others would have to wait a moment as greeted Chris, including a hug.

For an Archipelago-Selkie, I was pretty average: Dark skinned, though not as olive as a Kyrenaian, dark brown hair and brown eyes, well-equipped and preferring swimsuits as my day-clothing. For a representative of the MGoL that would be out of question in a more formal setting, the Geansai of fish-leather, which I wore as a Wexford, would be more appropriate there, but here, at this beach, it was fine.
I was not the only one, after all!
Still, when I glanced over to the tree line for new arrivals, my expression brightened, when I saw two familiar faces - familiar from Piffle, that is. Yelda Altanereg and Setsuko Abe, accompanied by a lad in swimming trunks, truly rocked their swimwear! They looked pretty... and, to be honest, delicious.
That was for another time.
I smiled at my current conversation partner, Captain Liam Fearg of the Tribe of Cavan, the Captain of the frigate SDFS Carman Fea, who was on a small vacation with two colleagues, who were nowhere to be seen. "My apologies, Liam, but I just spotted two acquaintances..." Then, I had an idea. "Wanna come along?"
The tall, brown haired and brown eyed officer with the eternal grin in swimming trunks, nodded: "Sure, lead the way, Faye."
I nodded and did as I said, approached Yelda, Setsuko and their friend, smiling as my hips swayed slightly - I presumed, that Liam had followed my eyes, finding the two women to his liking... either that or he didn't want to be approached by SDY's guys again, who were talking shop with the sailor.
Anyway, I extended my arms for a hug. "Yelda, Setsuko!", I said with a smile, "Glad to see, that you could make it!" I looked to the lad. "You must be Kazuo. Glad to make your acquaintance!"

Mediama wrote:Marionette, or Marion to her friends, could only look around in sheer bewilderment and awe in how she was able to manage to be here.

At the beach.
Khalid Faris.

When I spotted the woman in the rather old-timey clothing, I smiled.
I was a photographer not only by passion, but also by destiny and occupation. It had taken a while to convince Mother to allow it to make it my occupation, at least until it was clear, where my siblings would end up, but here I was now - on the photographer list of Bicíní Industries and at the Aftershow Party of their Archipelago Shooting.
And, of course, I was on the lookout for interesting images.
The woman in the... about a century old dress, I wanted to say, looked familiar, though - it took me a moment to realize: Marionette. Miss Taise had invited her, mainly because BI was dabbling into the market for historic clothing and she was an expert.
It was not a large market, but it was a fun and interesting one - and one, where she was an expert.
I was a man of 1.82 meters, white hair although I wasn't even 20, violet eyes and olive skin - I was Kyrenaian, after all. I wore swimming trunks and a shirt, planned to maybe swim a round later, but that was for, indeed, later.
I had a very professional digital camera around my neck as well, making it clear, why I was here and in what capacity I worked for BI.
I approached her, hands off my camera, and smiled. "Miss Marionette?", I asked cautiously, then bowed my head lightly before extending my hand. "Khalid Faris. I work for BI as a photographer. I must admit, that I only recently heard of your work, but I grew to admire it a fair bit."

On collision course.
Yvain Saighead of the Tribe of Westmeath.

When I had spotted Vicente, I had immediately plotted a new course, one to intercept... one, which turned to collision as my daughter joined my side and had cautioned me to not be too confrontational.
Victoria Shipyards was a competitor, after all, of my own company SDY, who's head-seller I was.
Isla was a pretty young woman, dressed in a red bikini with some of the young men on the beach 'checking her out', as it was said today, but she had yet to understand, that only because two men worked for competing companies, that did not mean, that they would beat each other up the first chance they got.
"Mister Vicente!", I said as I was in range, smiling, offering my hand for a shake, "Good to see, that you made it... we saw the vessel in the harbour and feared, that the newest Spirit-class Yacht had to make an unplanned stopover." I motioned to Isla. "If I may introduce, my daughter, Isla."
Isla smiled and blushed lightly as she bowed her head. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Sir. Dad told many things about you."

Kiana Rúisc of the Tribe of Waterford.

Of course I recognized Jerald de Leon - the heir to the De Leon Armoury was someone, who one had to recognize in my line of business. That line of business being Arms Dealing.
The company I worked for, Mangaire Dealership, was not yet working together with De Leon, but the emphasis was on the 'not yet'. Such thoughts could come another time, though, I was here on vacation!
And I doubted, that he would recognize me, though.
I was a blonde with green eyes, dressed in a white bikini with golden highlights, that did little to hide the fact, that I was a well-equipped blonde, too. Many people, thus, assumed, that I was an airhead, but that was quite far from the truth, despite a misspent youth. I carried a cloth bag with a few bottles of lemonade and a small bag of herbal teas, my own donation to the festivities and their food and drink pool.
We walked side by side, a bit of an distance between us, from the hotel to the beach, where BI was celebrating its successful conclusion of the Archipelago Shooting. When he turned to the right street, leading down to Pléaráca Beach, I closed the distance and struck up a conversation.
"Good evening.", I said, my Selkie-accent, the rolling Rs and dropped vowels shining through, "Also on your way to the beach party of BI? Can't blame ya, lad, as I am meeting a few friends there as well... I'm Kiana."
I bowed my head slightly.

At the Party

"I'm sure he did, child," Gerald replied in an endearing manner--or as close to one as someone who had little idea how to deal with children could do--before cradling the pack of Liberica to free his hand for shaking Yvain's offered hand.

"The pleasure was all mine, Mister Saighead...but if it's all the same to you," Gerald replied, "I think it's best we dispense with the formalities, Yvain. 'Gerald' will do." He took a look at father and daughter, realizing that SDY's salesman-in-chief wasn't someone to fear; he learned from Defense Department missives made public by virtue of FOI that SDY had sold the Confederation supply ships to extend the reach of the Navy. Just as well; the Visayan elite swore by Victoria Shipyards not only out of national pride, but also practicality.

Prussia-Poland, Warsaw Castle, 5 days prior-1800 hours
The lights were on, and the doors were flung open. The reason?

The troops were home! Not just any troops either, but the 1st Guards Division, composed of the finest men in all of the Commonwealth. It was a classic 'triangular' division, comprised of 2 infantry and 1 armored regiment, along with an artillery regiment, Air Defense, Engineer, Maintenance, Recon and Chemical defense battalions. Not to mention the divisional hospital as well. The division had been deployed in Iraq for several years by now, originally in full force, and then, when the conventional fighting ceased, rotating battalions in and out of the country. But now it was home-home at last, free from any troubles in the sandbox. Church bells rang, people laughed and hugged returning relatives in the streets, and a few men had a few quiet drinks in the innumerable bars of Warsaw, giving a quiet toast to those that didn't make it home.

Within Warsaw castle, the kitchen staff was busy at work, preparing a small dinner for the royal family-and, in particular, one Lance Corporal Berengar von Hohenzollern-Jagiellon, Crown Prince of Prussia-Poland.

Dining hall

A medium-sized, well-lit room was built into the side of the large, open dining hall of Warsaw castle. This was the dining room for the Royal family when they had fewer than 5 people over.

Tonight, no guests were present at all-the dinner was family-only. Old Crassus, King of Prussia and Poland, sat to the side tonight, with his wife, Louise, to his left. Adelheid, Annemarie, and Stanislaus all sat to the right of the center, leaving Berengar to take the chair at the head of the table.

Unlike what you would expect, it was a quiet dinner, especially since Berengar kept dozing off. Jetlag had hit him hard...
Adelheid and Stanislaus attempted to start a conversation a few times, revolving around basic training and medical school, respectively. It didn't last, though, and usually died after a few minutes.

Finally, after dinner, each member went to their own room and soon dropped off to sleep.

4 days ago-0900 hours
"Hey, sis?"
Adelheid looked up from her book to see her still-jet-lagged brother, rubbing his eyes and holding a piece of paper in his hands.
"I've got something for you." he continued.
"Hm? What is it?"
"Some sorta invitation to a party. Free Lands..."
"You're not going yourself?"
"Nah, fuck that. I need my sleep...and I need to catch up..."
"You haven't asked anyone else?"
"Sis, it's the Free Lands and it's a beach party. Pap has to run the country, mum would die if she had to wear a swimsuit, Stanislaus is either at medical school or watching his jap cartoons, Annemarie's busy volunteering."
"I'm not too big of a fan of those things either..."
"Wearing a swimsuit isn't exactly a cardinal sin, sis. It'll be fun...or at least, better than freezing your ass off here."
"Fair...I'll be back before Christmas, aye?"
"Probably."
"Aight, when do I leave?"
"3 days, give or take a few hours...And...erm, if you see Ida-"
"Of course."

A few hours ago
"Wake up!"
Adelheid awoke with a start, and nearly jumped out of her seat, only to realize that she was on a plane to the Free Lands, and next to a very worried NCO.
Marie Ernst Gluck. Originally a simple conscript in the Reichswehr serving out a 2-year term, a series of coincidences, chance meetings, and blind luck had lead to her being the commander of Unit 777, originally an elite Saranidian unit that later defected to Prussia-Poland in one of the most bizarre coup attempts ever.

The voice of Marie brought Adelheid back to earth.
"Your Majesty, are you alright?" she asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just...dreams."
"Alright, I was getting worried. You were muttering something about a MANPADS and you were starting to thrash a little..."
"It's nothing-I'm fine."
"Good. We land in...two hours. They're still serving breakfast, I think."
"What is it?"
"Eggs and cheese, or canned bread."
"Nah, screw that. I'll eat when we land."
"You should try it. It's not bad."

Adelheid only rolled her eyes in response to that. Marie would eat anything-a vital trait for the footsloggers, maybe, but she was in the Luftwaffe, and good, high-quality food was one of the few perks of serving in the least-respected branch of the Reichswehr. The Heer was worshipped, the sailors of the Marine could always expect cheers and offers of a pint at any bar in Gdansk, but the Luftwaffe had a reputation for being a bunch of overbred, snotty fighter jocks who watched too many American movies and-worst of all-drank Coke.

She ended her train of thought and continued staring out the window. Currently, it was still all clouds, but soon the plane would descend, and the clouds would part like the curtains of a stage, revealing the stage.

'For all the world's a stage-and all the men and women are merely players.' thought Adelheid.

Then she smacked herself. She was going to a party where sooner or later she would have to dress like a cheap Yankee slut. Shakespeare wasn't the right thing for this!

Pléaráca Beach, Tearmann Island Resort

Two women walked down the street.
One was a 'well-endowed' strawberry-blonde girl, around 20, currently wearing a plain-white T-shirt and a pair of cargo shorts. Just your normal tourist to the Free Lands, with absolutely nothing to see here.

The woman following immediately behind her was around the same age, but 'flatter', and seemingly dressed in a completely different fashion.

Put simply, she looked like she belonged in a warzone, not a tropical Switzerland.
She wore the dull-grey uniform of the Prussian-Polish Reichswehr-probably a rare sight in the Free Lands. An empty pistol holster was clipped to her belt, sharing it's space with a long knife secure in it's scabbard.

The pair entered the hotel, and after dropping off their things and arranging for a room, they both headed for the beach, Adelheid carrying a small paper bag, and Marie a small package.

"I don't like sand." Marie groused after reaching the beach. "It's coarse and rough, and gets everywhere. 'Specially in yer boots."
"Then why did you wear them?" asked Adelheid, cocking a brow.
"Pride goes before destruction."

Clean, tropic weather for a resort. A sultry remedy.

For Hoàng Tuyết Loan and Nguyễn Ly Hyùnh, their short-sleeved wear lets the warm air soothe their very skins. When heading out of the plane, the first thing they did was elicit a stupefied sigh. When seeing the resort for the first time though, they gave out a groan that seemed like they were exhausted, but with touches of excitement. Anticipations satisfied.

The pair then entered the lobby of the Pléaráca Hotel, Loan in a ocean blue demin and Hyùnh in an azalea-decorated floral dress, and went up to the receptionist. After settling in their rooms, they headed out to the beach together. In their summer glamour, anyone could tell that they looked as ideal as the model photographs in any retail store.

By the large fire.
Chris recognized his welcoming comittee at once, being vulpine for two thirds and human for one - for a given definition of the term, as Gawain Folaíochta, of Wicklow's Tribe, was a Spiorad, an old one, even by Spiorad standards. He owned the fox shop Cel worked in, and judging by his presumed age, one could possibly think, that he had already sold pets to dinosaurs.
The other ones were famous Little Black Foxes, going by Cleanóirili in these parts and by Schwatze Füssje in the ones Chris hailed from - to be precise, Soiprigh, the young adventurer, and Garbh, the old matron who had still had a litter as late as in last year's summer, which had been quite surprising everyone, considering her age.
Gawain greeted Chris in English, for his convenience - albeit Chris' knowledge of Selkie-language had, so far, advanced to the point, that only his slight, but notable Rhenish accent could still tell him apart from locals acoustically. Then again, it certainly wasn't for his convenience only, as his companies probably wouldn't understand a lot. Especially the two young ladies around didn't exactly look like people anyone would deem likely to understand the language spoken around these parts.
Dragan, Leonie, and Kira patiently waited for Chris to finish hugging his girlfriend's boss back; the latter two would be introduced to him soon enough. They noticed the two foxes who had followed Gawain, though, and unbeknownst to each other, they already knew who would receive a few more pettings very soon, making more people in here envious.
Dragan did recognize Gawain, even though they hadn't had much to do with each other back then, considering whom Dragan had been busy with.
"It's good to see you again, too!" - Chris said, still swallowing an intuitive 'Sir' down. "Long time no see! How's the business going?"

Since Lillorainen's geography is currently being overhauled a 'tiny' bit, most information on it posted before December 12, 2018, is not entirely reliable anymore. Until there's a new, proper factfile, everything you might need to know can be found here. Thank you. #RetconOfDoom (Very late update, 2020/08/30 - it's still going on ...)

By the fire.
Setsuko and Yelda instantly recognized Faye Donn of the Tribe of Wexford, whom they had had a conversion with on Piffle, along with the Mayor of Dumhach - especially Setsuko, about the pros and cons of economic protectionism and restrictive laws thereon, especially within the context of the SEA-Accords, as well as things that needed to be fixed and those that weren't broken, soon going over to liquid courage - a topic one could easily have started yet another long discussion on, if it had been for faster internet on the ferry. Since Setsuko studied Economics, all these things were precisely the stuff she had to deal with all the time. Including liquid courage.
Recognizing Faye wasn't awfully hard, considering she definitely looked more like a local here in the Archipelago, with her skin notably dark, even though not as olive as your average Kyrenaian would have - she could rather have passed as a Moana Nui Islander than as someone from the Deserts -, and the swimsuit she was wearing suited her perfectly, on her profile pic as well as in real life.
She was accompanied by a brown-haired and similarly brown-eyed lad, who, according to Setsuko's and Yelda's first judgement, was ... quite good-looking, to say the least. Faye seemed to want to leave him with some other men first, but then, he followed her. Setsuko, as the little group's sempai, was the first one to hug her back; Yelda followed just a moment after.
"We're glad, that we made it here, too!" - Setsuko said, grinning.
Since Kazuo had been addressed, he made a step forward and bowed his head in the perfect angle appropriate when to a woman estimated older than oneself, but still young. "Akayama Kazuo ..." - he began, realized, that the given name came before the family name (and the Tribe's name, for that matter) in these parts, and had to grin, "... so Kazuo, it is, yeah. Nice to meet you all!"
Kazuo had, of course, heard about their conversation with Faye. He considered logging in to his own Piffle account again soon ... meanwhile, he realized, that the man accompanying Faye hadn't seemed to look familiar to Yelda and Setsuko, so they probably didn't know him. Yet.
Yelda was the first one to change this, asking him with the smile that had already brought grown, fully trained Mangudai, into a state of enchantment, "And who else do we have the pleasure with?"

With the main fire burning away a short distance away, Karen had dug down a few feet, near to the sand some pebles were then placed into the pit ready for Jason to bring over some drift wood, enough to burn for around a couple of hours. however, Jason had other things going on
By the tideline.
Amy Ramallae of the Tribe of Monaghan.

Jason turned around,
"Doing well thanks, just gathering some firewood for a small pit, looks like the main fire is burning nicely too" he replied, grabbing the last few twiggs, gesturing over to Karen to come over. It didn't take long for Karen to spot Jason so she began to make her way over.
"Looks like its going to be a nice evening too, and once the drink starts to flow, things i think it will be a nice ending to a hectic holiday, we've been touring the islands and such so now its time to let our hair down".

A few moments later, Karen had meandered her way over to Jason and slid her arm around him. Jason stands around 5 feet 11 inches in height, Karen a shade under 5 feet at 4 feet 11 inches, her blue bikini showed off a beautiful dragon tattoo covering a large part of her body with Jason sporting a smaller but similarly designed dragon on his back. Through Karen's ears sat a couple of flesh tunnels, through which hung a pair of ear rings, one of which had a chain going to a ring through the middle of her nose, whilst her bikini top had hints of more intimate rings although the jewellery had not stretched south of the belt line, yet!

"May I introduce myself, I'm Jason, Karen here is my wife of five years now and the most important and esteemed member of our family, Marvin"

Marvin just relaxed in Karen's arms, trying however to claw Karen with claws he never had and typically, he let out a soft meow

Pléaráca Beach.
Khana Amina bint-Karim.

I knew, who he was.
Considering, that I was a Kyrenaian Khana and his cousin had once fucked a very close friend of mine, Princess Fara, it would have been quite rude for me to not recognize him.
I was a tall woman, well over two meters (though a smidgen shorter then Mister Folracht), my white blonde hair open and my red eyes sparkling. I was here both as a model and as a designer - why, you might ask yourself, would a Kyrenaian Khana, and her Princess, for that matter, go on and model and design clothes? The former for charity, the latter because it was fun, my respite from governing the Khanate of Sheliak. Everyone knew, that a part of the proceeds of every piece of clothing, which Marla and I wore for model shootings, would be used for a good purpose, currently for a new children's ward at the Ulu General Hospital in the Khanate of Jazirat Alshahwa. It needed the upgrade and while Samir was a good man (and so was his daughter), I had said, that I would raise the money and so I did.
This time, I was actually around in a piece from last year's Archipelago Shooting, a black collared bikini, an anchor ornament emphasizing the lowest point of my cleavage (I like that one, mainly because it offered a clear indicator as to where the eyes of my conversation partner were), with pocket on the bikini top, small ones, barely large enough for a few bank notes and surprisingly helpful. The bottoms were a pair of really short shorts, held up by a white belt.
I turned back to my conversation partner, Darufa Rialtóir of the Tribe of Conn, Dumhach's Mayor, who's little girl was currently playing with Marla. My own adopted daughter was a Selkie herself, yet she was by now a Kyrenaian, too, and a Princess to boot - yet, she was still also a girl, and her playfulness with the one year old Nolwenn was a testament to that.
Not that I blamed her, to be honest.
Darufa, in any case, smiled at me. "You saw someone interesting, Amina-Khana.", she said and I nodded. She looked from the corner of her eye. "Prince Sabin? Well, he does have a strong figure..."
I nodded. "That he does.", I said, "Though, character-wise, he is not really my type. Were I 15, 20 years younger, I might be crushing on him..." We both laughed at that. "Though, would you excuse me?"
Darufa nodded. "Sure, go ahead. I'll keep an eye on the girls!", she said and nodded towards where Nolly was playing with Marla or vice-versa, who knew that?
I bowed my head and then departed, nodding to Marla. She nodded back, understanding, a dark, professional look crossing her face for but a moment. She was a good girl.
I turned and approached Sabin - would he recognize me? Good question... still, better approach him neutrally, until I knew, what his game was. I was part of the BI-Family, I had a special place despite being Royalty, Fürstin Oda had her grandmotherly charme, but Sabin? Where would he go?
As it happened, I grabbed two bottles of lemonade, Teressian Lemonade, not the sugar-water that was Selkie-Lemonade, from one of the lads, who had just opened a cooler - he looked up, I winked at him, he gave a playful salute, all was good.
Anyway, as I approached, my hand went to the belt, taking out a bottle-opener, then stepped right into his field of view, not to be missed as I approached him.
"Good evening, stranger.", I said, and used the last word in a way, that indicated, that I knew very well, who he was, then indicated to the two bottles, "Wanna have a drink? Gotta stay hydrated in this climate."
It was an excuse, we both would know that.

The Beach.
Caollaidhe Fáscadh of the Tribe of Cork.

I was the Captain of the Swordmaidens, the Order dedicated to Carman Fea, the Goddess of War and Science, a well-trained woman with muscles and not an ounce of fat, who's chest was... lacking. Especially compared to some of the girls of BI, where I had veritable breast-envy.
It came as little in the ways of a surprise, that I preferred to wear armour, but today, I had swapped that for a light polo shirt and a skirt, as well as my riding boots, the unarmoured ones.
I was edging along the side of the entire party, which soon would come into full swing, watched for a point, where I could maybe join a group of fellow swordspeople, priests, whatever... of course, I missed the yawning Suleiman al-Salek, bumped into him.
Literally.
"My apologies, Sir.", I said politely, bowing my head slightly, "You are unharmed?"
My good luck at work, ladies and gentlemen...

"The Spirit of Diamond is on its shakedown cruise, but the bossman gave us the green light; Sammy--Samuel Cui--likes giving Victoria some exposure, and if this is how we get it, so be it. Anyway, where do I drop the coffee off?"

Collision averted.
Yvain Saighead of the Tribe of Westmeath.

I knew, that Isla was a bit miffed at being called a child - she was of eighteen Springs, after all, a fully-grown adult, would graduate High School next year and was not only a good shot with the crossbow, she was that from the back of a galloping horse, which she won trophies for.
I nodded at the point of dropping the formalities - Victoria had their market, we had ours and despite our recent restructuring to more civilian shipbuilding, I saw little overlap. Besides, Victoria Shipyards was a fellow competitor, yes, but not our enemy.
"Oh, we'll have to ask Finny with that.", I said and looked around for the blonde, tall man. "Finnegan Drisiúr of the Tribe of Cork, Bicíní Industries' CEO.", I added as an explanation. He wasn't the only one, who could name-drop. Grinning, I spotted him. "Over there. Isla, would you please...?"
"Sure, Dad.", she said, nodded to Gerald, "It was a pleasure, Mister Vicente."
And off she was.
I waited until she was out of earshot, sighed heavily. "Ah, youth these days...", I said with a grin, "I didn't think, that I ever asked, Gerald, but do you have children?"

Polish Prussian Commonwealth wrote:Prussia-Poland, Warsaw Castle, 5 days prior-1800 hours

On the beach.
Yven Barriall of the Tribe of Monaghan.

I recognized one of the faces - people would think, that it would be the face of the Princess (in fact, I did not and to be honest, I had no idea, that she was a Princess), but it was the one in the uniform.
A rather weird choice for a beach party.
Anyway, I recognized her... here was the problem, though, from where did I recognize her?
I am Yven. Brown haired lad, 1.83 meters tall, model for BI and heir to Barriall Cobblers, one half of a pair of twins, my sister being of the Spiorad. My family worked a lot with leather, so I had experience with leatherworking, including in the tanneries of Súdaire.
I was also a student, in High School.
I wore a pair of swimming trunks, a shirt and a pair of sandals.
And I decided something.
I approached the two, grabbed three bottles of lemonade, the sugary nuclear warhead analogue that was Selkie-Lemonade, fresh from the cooler (Ida gave me one look, I bowed my head lightly to her and her two sisters, who had brought that cooler and five like it for everyone, she was pacified), and approached the two.
When I was close enough, all three bottles in one hand, I cleared my throat behind my other hand. "Excuse me, ladies...", I began, then turned to the one in uniform, "...my apologies if this sounds weird, Miss, but... do I know you from somewhere?" I indicated to the bottles in my other hand. "If it is too weird, I offer these as tribute to you, so that mercy may be found in your hearts."
Well, that didn't sound completely over the top, but I hoped, it would serve its purpose.

Quen Minh wrote:Clean, tropic weather for a resort.

The truth can hurt.
The truth can sometimes be ugly, emberrasing, the wrong thing at either the wrong time or the right time. Or all of that and more.
The truth, in this case, was that among the veritable sea of beautiful women, many of which worked with their beauty in one way or the other, but mostly in fashion, these two beautiful women simply went under the radar.
Where in other parts of the world, heads would turn, here, the two of them were merely spared a glance.
Mostly.
I recognized one of them, Hoàng Tuyết Loan - we had talked over Piffle and I looked exactly like my avatar. Granted, today I wore another swimsuit, a black bikini, which let my warm, brown eyes shine.
I waved towards her and her friend, motioned for her to join my conversation group with lemonade. My big sis Elin, her girlfriend Ritubani Aoi, her rabbit ears standing tall and herself dressed in a black, high-leg one piece, and Leathchúpla-Twins, Nora and Patty.
The latter two were normal humans, not Spiorad like me and my sis, nor Mimio like Ritu.
We had enough lemonade to spare, that was for sure!

By the large fire.
Gawain Folaíochta, of Wicklow's Tribe.

From up close, I was almost certain, that the other young man was Dragan.
In any case, I was also glad, that Chris didn't address me as Sir - he was part of the family, so that would be inappropriate!
As the hug had finished and Chris posed his questions, I nodded. "Wonderful, thanks to yer girlfriend. It is as if the Vixen Herself had sent her!", I complimented her and, to be honest, these praises weren't nearly enough, "Granted, we had to ask a friend to take care of the shop for the past two weeks, but it is all going well. We have them all with us here." I smiled down to my feet. "You already know Soiprigh, me lad, though the Lady might need an introduction. Her name's Garbh, she is my old matron. Extend your hand for her to sniff, if you want!"
Indeed, my old lady sat down on her haunches and awaited the hands.

She was accompanied by a brown-haired and similarly brown-eyed lad, who, according to Setsuko's and Yelda's first judgement, was ... quite good-locking. To say the least.

Faye Donn of the Tribe of Wexford.

The brown-haired man bowed his head, his smile still present, and offered his hand: "Liam.", he said simply, then elaborated: "Captain Liam Fearg of the Tribe of Cavan, Captain of SDFS Carman Fea, a frigate in the SDF-Navy. Though Liam is fine, ladies, young man. I am on a vacation."
I smiled myself.
"Liam and I share a passion for fishing.", I explained, "Less for things washed ashore, mind you, but real fishing with a, hopefully, really big fish on the line!"
Liam nodded. "Granted, I am from the Northern Islands, so fishing is a bit more complicated for me, but I still enjoy a few hours of waiting for the one to bite.", he said and smiled.
He smiled a lot.

By the tideline.
Amy Ramallae of the Tribe of Monaghan.

From up close, one thing became more apparent: Aside from the leg, there was more done on him then just that... and on his girlfriend, too.
The woman wore a tatoo, some sort of dragon, huge ear rings, one of which connected to a ring in her nose by a chain, her nipples being pierced as well - the lad wore a smaller tattoo.
Body modifications... well, tattoos were either reserved for cultic purposes, and then only very specific shapes and patterns, or hinted at the person being of a less then reputable profession, like some organized crime syndicates, which had tried to grab a hold of the Free Lands underworld in the 70s, during the Yard Crisis. It had been almost like in the movies and to my knowledge, there was a novel-series in the making, by Finnegan Scríbhneoir of the Tribe of Cork (of course, as usual with him, with the prospect of being made into a series of movies as well).
Piercings, on the other hand, were, to be honest, disgusting for any Selkie. Absolutely and utterly.
And as such, Karen was treated to polite formality, with a good hint of the iciness usually associated with the Northern Islands.
"I am Amy Ramallae of the Tribe of Monaghan.", I introduced myself with a light bow, "Student of student of veterinary medicine at the UoL. This is Filicia Eitpheil of the Tribe of Cavan."
"Pleased to make your acquaintance.", she took over and although Shella was mostly known for its sheep, she could be quite cold, too. "I study Fisheries Science with specialization on the Oileánra-Archipelago."
Cealg came trotting over, his eyes on Marvin until I snapped my fingers. He came to my side.
"That is Cealg, he is a Lapa, a species native to the Archipelago.", I explained, "And to be honest, I would keep an eye on Marvin, lest he ends as dinner for one of larger animals here."
Cealg and Cel's Little Black Foxes were only the beginning. I had counted at least two Grey Wolves, one Lutetian Great Falcon, a Sickle Cat, a Wollwolf, several Kyrenaian Caracals of various sizes, a Renardille and a Salalkubz Forest Wolf. Really, only things missing were a Sand Wyvern and a Scalefang playing Monster Battle! with an Arracht and our merry menagerie would be full.
"May one ask, what you do for a living?", I inquired politely.
I play PT, MT and a bit FT. I am into character-RPs.
My people are called the Selkie, the nation is usually called the Free Lands in MT-settings. Thanks.

As the group finished perching their little "camp" they were soon approached by a somewhat familiar face. None other than the good lady who invited them along to this, probably the trip of a lifetime so how could they not be grateful for her. Joshua stood, while gently wriggling free of Sono's embrace. He did appreciate her affection, even if she was a bit much for him, she was sweet and kind. "Oh yes! Macha." He greeted back. A little loss for words but he found it soon enough. "How great it is to see you, as you can see we made it... Uuuh anyway please let me introduce everyone to you, you probably remember my siblings, Bianca my sister and Jacob my brother....Oh well Jacob I think is off a little starstruck he'll be back in a moment. My sister's friend, Isabel. This..." He introduced Sono next by helping her up to her feet and she went ahead on her own behalf, "Sono de Turoj, sinjorino vulpo."

"Well long story short, she and I are dating. Told you I had a couple girls I was interested in, Sono was one of them. Took your advice to heart and just started a conversation with her. Oh and..."

"Kara de Kristalo, and another island native of Kuronami's Mazomba Region. How great it is to meet you, sinjorino. Might I say a lovely lady you are, a fellow model I take it? I understood this was a whole event hosted by a fashion giant in this country. I'm a model myself, you've probably seen the handful of PiffleNet posts I've made as well."

Bianca and Isabel mostly looked on with quite awe, obviously Bianca heard tales of the unique Spiorad Ainmhithe that inhabited this region but this was the first she saw one in person.

Isabel shaking herself out of her stuper, politely bowed her head in gratitude to thank her, "As I'm a guest of Bianca, whom you invited directly, I'm thankful to you, madam. Miss de Kristalo is also a friend of my mother."

A short beat passed when the younger brother returned "Hiya, I got it, see I told ya she was the real deal. Oh, who's this?"

"This is Macha, the one who invited us." his older brother told him.

"Oooh cool!"

"Pleased to meet you" replied Karen and Jason, each offering a hand shake,

"yeah, we've seen a few creatures, hence why Marv is on a leash" replied Karen "so no playing ball then with the cat, and he's certainly not going swimming"

Jason smiled, slid his arm around Karen, "and as for a living, I run a haulage firm back home with a large number of trucks operating through out the nation shifting every thing from containers to refrigerated loads. If its come to the Aurora Confederacy through Kai'Ilana river port, chances are its been on one of my trucks, however we're here to chill out, relax and have a holiday, and you?" he says with an honest tone in his voice, with the company he is reffering to being that of Space-Night Transportation, a successful Auroran company (who's storefront is in need of some updating!

Karen listened intently, every now and then glancing up at Jason in a loving, affectionate way,

"Fisheries science, sounds interesting" replied Karen. "Jason taught me how to drive, and within six months of meeting him, I was driving for him"

"A fine creature" noted Jason, "obedient too, unlike furball here" he says, stroking Marvin's neck, causing a typical responce...

That was strange indeed and it seemed someone else took notice No sooner had Ayla sat down to enjoy the warm sand beneath her had someone else approached, a very tall man, good heavens, a good head above herself. But with a jovial friendly approach nevertheless chuckling at the sight. "Indeed, spirit of a child like that, should be nurtured. Please, feel free." She gestured for him to have a seat next to her. "I'm just soaking in the warm sands and sunshine. Right now where I'm from, we're in our deluge. So it's simply just a lot of rain. I like the rain but I do get to miss the sun at times. This is pretty nice. Ayla." she extend a hand to him as a greeting.

She gave him a moment but the boy had quickly returned. Well, hard to be mad, his bright eyes were enchanting and his voice still in the throws of pre-adolescence, young enough to still have a little magic, no sense spoiling the fun. "Here, please sign this for me." She took the book from his hands, a unique pulp novel about a jungle girl, maybe a bit like Ayla but didn't really look much like her but oh well. "hehe sure, I'd be happy to. Might I have your name?" she wrote it out to him following a little message tenu vian fajron brulanta. "There you go, little fella."

"Wow thanks! Ooh I better get back to my bro. Hey if I see you later, I'd like to talk to you some more."

"Well...Okay..." She hoped she kind of wouldn't. Only because she wouldn't want to ruin the fantasy for him. "Enjoy your day."

"You too ma'am. Sir." He also took a quick moment to acknowledge Heardread Folrach. Ayla again couldn't help but chuckle "He's a spirited little guy. I really would hate it if I had to tell him I'm not the lady from his novel. Seems truly enchanted. But anyway, you might be?"

Gerald Vicente
At the Party

"No, Yvain, I do not," Gerald replied. While he suspected Isla's reaction was what drove her father to ask, it didn't hurt to be sure: "What gave it away?" In his defense, he was an only child with what his peers often called a single-minded obsession with his work; true, he took vacations every now and then, but to him they were essentially extended break times. At 32, he still took to the inversion of working hard and playing harder, putting more energy into his job than his recreation.

Miss Donatella Pintaral
Pléaráca Beach, Tearmann Island Resort
Approaching the party

"What a journey," muttered an exhausted girl. It felt as the sun was only extending it's heated rays towards her as she wiped the sweat from her forehead. Wearing a typical sunhat and over-sized black sunglasses, they both did little to protect her. Otherwise, her see-through royal blue jumpsuit and matching lace bikini kept her cool enough. Approaching the crowd that assembled on the beach, the girl would clearly be foreign in most regards. If her looks did not give it away, her accent would once she began to speak.

Almost unknown to many at the resort, the girl would be recognized by a few as Donatella Pintaral: heiress, socialite and model. Hailing across the vast sea from the lands of the Gristolian Imperium, or more specifically Serkonos, she was well-known in popular media as a fashion icon. From Karnaca to Dunwall, she would be seen in only the latest fashions from such fashion houses like Maldonado and Elizabeth Pollard. While she was mainly known for her modeling and public appearances, Donatella's father, Valentino Pintaral, ran the third largest import-export business in all the Isles. From this wealth, which she was due to inherit it all, the heiress afforded her luxurious lifestyle.

Still, even while being so famous, scandal was always around the corner. The hottest gossip in Karnaca at the time was the fact that Donatella's ex-boyfriend, the football player Bautista Romano, sold some of her more scandalous pictures to the tabloids. Donatella's father succeed in stopping most of the tabloids from printing, but sadly the internet was another story. So, when a friend of Donatella's at the modeling agency forwarded her a beach feast invitation from Bicíní Industries, she gladly took the chance to get out of the country.

Juggling the gifts she had brought to the party, Donatella kept playing Fruit Smash on her phone waiting for something to happen.

Mediama wrote:Marionette, or Marion to her friends, could only look around in sheer bewilderment and awe in how she was able to manage to be here.

Marion gave him a little curtsy, made a bit difficult due to the fact she was still holding a carpet bag and a parasol. She put the carpet bag down and shook the gentleman's hand, "I'm glad to meet your acquaintance." She gingerly looked all over the beach at the ever so unfolding events going on around her before turning back to Khalid, "Seems like things are starting up pretty quickly at the moment, I wouldn't know where to start." She smoothed out her dress, "Can't say I don't stand out though, for my clothing and not my figure." She smiled at Khalid, "I suppose that's why you're here? Taking pictures of anything unique here at the after shoot party?"

Admittedly she didn't mind the attention, she'd often get questions ranging from "Can I take a picture?" to, "What in the world are you wearing?" It just meant that more people were starting to get exposed to vintage clothing and how relevant it still was. It was a bonus that said attention also apparently recognized some of her work.
