Charter Champions League II [Fourth Sovereign Charter Only]

Postby Asgareth » Fri Dec 13, 2019 1:49 pm

Charter Champions League II

This is a The Fourth Sovereign Charter sports roleplay. Only members of this region may post in this thread.

Many nations across Origin hold their own domestic competitions, but rarely do the very best clubs compete from across the globe. To counter this, the Charter Football Association (CFA), have opted to create the Champions League. Here, the two best clubs in each nation will be invited to compete for the chance to win the Charter Cup. The competition will take the form of a double round-robin competition, with each team playing each other in home and away fixtures.

In the inaugural season, the best team from four nations - Asgareth, Heartfilia, Nouvel Acadie and Greater Slavacia - played against one another for the Charter Cup. After a hard fought contest, Nouvel Acadie won the Charter Cup with an emphatic 6-1 victory at home to the Slavacia National Team. Now, the CFA looks to expand the league. More nations are invited, and each are invited to submit TWO teams.

So without further ado, the application:

You must submit an application for every team you intend to submit.

FAQ’s:
“How many teams can I submit?”
You are allowed to submit a maximum of TWO teams, though of course fewer are permitted.

“How many players do I need to submit?”
23 players are requested in your application. You are asked to specify your starting eleven (XI). You are free to change your starting XI at any time, but please draw attention to it in your posts.

"When do I need to sign up by?"
To compete in the second iteration, you must sign up by the 20th December 2019

“Can I sign up after the first round?
No, sorry. You’d be behind other players and I’d probably have to auto some matches. It’s just easier to have a cut-off date.

“When will results be posted?”
Results will be posted every Friday. This will give everyone a week to respond, before the next update (and bonuses will of course be adjusted accordingly in this time).

“What should I roleplay?”
Whatever you want – within reason. If you want to give a detailed account of the match, or a preview of what’s to come, or an interview with a player or a newspaper report… whatever takes your fancy.

“Can I blow up a stadium? Or kill an opposing player? Or have the other team taken hostage?”
Yes – assuming you’ve spoken with those affected beforehand. Please also note that the Charter Football Association (CFA) is likely to punish state-sponsored terrorism, or teams that commit crimes. Obviously this isn’t meant to dissuade you – and certainly, it will always add an extra element to matches – but please know you won’t simply get away with it.

“What do I win if I finish top?”
Pride in your fictional nation’s ability to play football. And possibly a bonus in the next league (if and when that happens)

“Is there relegation? Or play offs?”
No. There likely won’t ever be a need for relegation – I doubt we’d have such a number of teams. Same answer for play offs.

Technical:

"How will this work?"
So, signups run from the 13th-20th December. In this time, you are more than welcome to RP something (your player's arrival, or predictions for the league or whatever takes your fancy.) Roleplaying during this period will provide a bonus for the first round. Those results will be posted on the 20th. From then on, you'll have a week to RP whatever, before the results are posted on the Saturday.

“What scorinator are you using?”
I’m using xkoranate, and will utilise the NSFS formula

“Will there be bonuses”?
Yes! There will be bonuses. Bonuses will be given out for form and for active roleplaying. I won’t go into the specifics on either, because they’re both fairly self-explanatory, but basically a string of wins, or a string of losses will impact your team. Similarly, active roleplaying will be rewarded to encourage frequent posting.

“Am I guaranteed to win with these bonuses?”
No! Of course not. There’s an aspect of luck in this as well.

“What about rank? There have to be some teams that are just naturally better than others.”
Teams that participated in the most recent season will be ranked according to where they finished. A small bonus will be applied to these teams (though this bonus may well be detrimental). New entrants will receive no positive or negative bonus.

“But I was in a league 5 years ago and did really well and -?”
Sorry to say, but the Charter was a very different place 5 years ago. Much like United fans, you’re living in the past.

Rules
  • The Fourth Sovereign Charter members only. Sorry, but if you want to join you’ll need to join our region.
  • Accept all results in good faith. Yes, it may seem unlikely that a team of adults could lose to a team of babies, but the scorinators ruling is final. With that said, please don’t submit a team of babies.
  • If you have any questions, ask. Telegram Asgareth or find me on discord.
  • Have fun!

Marat el-Nasir, GM of New Jericho AC, looked at his ragged, sweaty team as they ended their training day mid-week between matches in the Charter Championship. The recent defeat to Olwar City had taken its toll on morale. The match saw a Natufian advantage through most of the competition after an early goal by star player Adrir Salem. But with 8 minutes left in regulation, a goal by Asgarthian striker Jakis Parfo tied the score and pushed the match into extra time. 6 mintues into overtime, Johnic Ross scored on a corner kick just after Natufian defender Isuda Jaffer was red-carded out for tripping.

What made matters worse wasn't the loss in front of a home crowd, but that both the Councilor of the Interior was present in the stadium as well as the Councilor for Foreign Relations, entertaining an envoy from the Oceani Empire. Marat was thoroughly berated after the match by the Councilors for "the diplomatic embarrassment". He tried to protest that football was still a relatively new sport in the Commonwealth. Most of his players came from backgrounds in lacrosse, track & field, and native endurance sports. They didn't have the finesse of career professionals as in other countries that have had football clubs for decades or even centuries. It was a mistake to protest because the Councilor for Foreign Relations threatened to sack him and bring in a coach from Rome who knew the sport better.

Fortunately, his contract guaranteed his position for the first half of the Championship. And he was still optimistic. He knew his team had heart and courage. They just needed to show a little more instinct on the field and, admittedly, some better strategy from the coaching staff.

"All right boys, you're looking good...looking good. Rezghi, you're still with the ball too long. Remember, pass it forward if there is an opening. If you don't see an immediate opening, pass laterally. Keep the other team shifting, remember."

Mehran Rezghi nodded tiredly and Marat changed his tone, putting down his clipboard. "Ok guys, we have a big opportunity coming up this week. I've watched the tapes. Rosskille City is having trouble playing cohesively. They're not in their normal groove. They can't deal effectively with constant passing. That's why we've been drilling on it so much this week. This is a chance to get a win and show the league we can play serious ball!"

"But the Skjoldurians are enormous!" chimed in defender Siamak Bina. "How are we supposed to defend against their power kicks? They're gonna' run right over us!"

"I don't want to hear that talk, Bina" Marat replied coolly. "They have strength but you have the advantage of speed. You're more nimble and when you play together, you're going to cut right through their lines. What you absolutely cannot do is give them corner kicks, or any chance to regroup. Keep the ball inbounds, don't pass off-side and by the Great Aurochs, do NOT give them any penalty kicks!"

As his crew head to the showers, Marat watched them pass by. Yes, he thought to himself, this week against Rosskille City would be where it all turns around!

New Jericho 1-2 Olwar City

News

  • Asgar City triumph over The Imperial Light. Mal Yela’s goal the decider in a 1-0 victory, to take City 4th in the league, 4 points behind 1st. Controversy due to VAR, suggesting the winner may have been offside. Yela claims it was “onside by a mile” and that the Imperial Light’s defence was “shambolic.” City’s manager, Racok Perkins says he’s pleased with the result, and hopes to build on it in next weeks tie against Sirthrynk K.F. p.39
  • Asgar-Rome Hockey World Cup Cancelled. Hockey Association Chairwoman, Elsi Ray states “Roman use of slaves is immoral and dishonourable. Use children like the rest of us.” Hockey Cup will be kept in Asgareth until next year, when the tournament is due to be held in the Epiloan Islands, in the hope of expanding the sport there. p.37
  • Talk of Olympic Games Falls Through. Skjoldurians storm out after being told they wouldn’t be allowed to tackle in tennis. Romans follow swiftly after being told Chariot Racing would be dropped. P.35
  • Epiloan team, Venda Rovers, investigated for corruption and match-betting. Venda Rovers chairman refuses to comment on suggestion he bribed fellow clubs to let his team win, while making large bets on the correct scoreline. p34

10 man Olwar City came from a goal behind to emerge victorious at Uki Stadium. New Jericho dominated the first half, with 9 shots on target, to Olwar City’s 1. Indeed, City were fortunate to be only 1 goal down by halftime. Striker Adrir Salem had put the home side ahead in the 9th minue, following a catastrophic error from Oki Lamama, where he passed the ball straight to the attacking player. Further disaster struck again when Lamama was dismissed in the 34th minute for violent conduct, resulting in a 3 game ban. Urgent action was required by City, and by manager Asjun Hesquith in order to salvage a result. He switched from 4-3-3 to 3-4-3, though in reality the formation was truly a 2-4-3. Johnic Ross came on for Asyla Montic, while Fio Ayata was replaced by Jakis Parfo. These changes provided little immediate reaction, with a 47th minute penalty being awarded to New Jericho. Salem stepped up, hoping to score, but his effort was saved by Kasik Elto. For a while, the match seemed doomed to finish with just a single goal, but it came alive in the last 10 minutes, when Parfo scored from a free kick, after being dragged down by Parsa Darvishi. 5 minutes of injury time was added, and in the 93rd minute, Ross scored from Parfo’s corner kick, following an immediate dismissal of New Jericho’s Isuada Jaffer. The away end erupted into cheers and celebrations, with pints of Asgarthian Ale thrown into the air.

Speaking after the match, 19 year old Jakis Parfo stated
“I was really come here and play New Jericho. They’re a very good club, with a lot going for them and their fans are great too – they asked for my autograph and pictures! But of course, I loved equalising. Going 1 goal down is always hard, but we showed real character to come back and win. It’s a team game, but I was really happy to get both a goal and an assist. I must admit, I didn’t really think Darvishi caught me, but I’ll happily take a free kick. And of course, assisting in the 93rd minute is special to me.”

Man of the match, and match winner Johnic Ross stated:
“Scoring a winner in the 93rd minute is special for any striker. To do it, having played the majority of the match with 10 men is even better. It’s my second goal this season, and I hope it proves to the manager that I’m committed and capable. The whole team played really well, and we should give credit to Kasik for his phenomenal save, which proved vital.”

Manager Asjun Hesquith stated:
“This was a really important match. Having only managed a draw last week, we really needed to get back to winning ways. The first half went terribly for us. The early goal caught us off guard, and honestly we were lucky not to be three or four down by half time. Losing Lamama is a blow to the team, but I can confirm we will be appealing the decision. There’s a lot we need to work on, particularly our battle for the midfield, but I was pleased on the whole. We’re a new squad, and we’re still getting to know each other. Kasik saved a good penalty, and our defence became more confident as the match went on. And of course, the last 10 minutes was amazing. The fans really got behind the boys, and essentially became the 11th man we needed. I’d like to thank the 12,592 fans that travelled all that way. The equaliser, Parfo’s goal, was really well worked. We’ve had him training his free kicks for a while and it was wonderful to see all that work pay off. He’s a young kid, and very eager to improve and honestly, I can see him being a star of the future. It was great for Ross to get his winner, and great for the team morale. We’ve got a week off now, and we intend to train hard, focussing on our defensive errors and crossing. I still need more from the lads, but 7 points out of 9 is really really good.”

Olwar City now sit 2nd in the table, 2 points behind A.S. Roma. They will take their first rest-break this weekend, before playing Rosskille City at home.

Imia Preparation

Postby Jiqaz » Tue Jan 07, 2020 5:38 pm

The team sat chatting idlely, manager Amaizo having called them in for a meeting before the day's match, as they were facing top of the table AS Roma. Soon Amaizo enter the room.

"I'm proud of what you men are doing on the world's stage, we've come a long way from Imia. But, this week is gonna be fiercer than either of our first games. We managed a toe against teams currently below us in the table. We're going up against a different kind of beast in Roma. Are your ready?"

The team echoed back they were.

"Are you ready?!"

They echoed back, matching their manager's enthusiasm.

"Then let's do this."

The Back Page of The Evening Crusader

Sirthrynk K.F. 1-1 Asgar City

A dull first half, where the biggest highlight was the referee tripping over on a blade of grass, appeared to be being repeated in the second, until Gareth Bale opened the scoring for City in the 82nd minute, with a header from a corner. A pass from defender Hosa Gavia, lay the ball at the feet of City’s top scorer of the season, who quickly dispatched his shot past Sirthrynk’s defence. Just 6 minutes later, however, Sirthrynk’s Romany Gradov scored on the counter. Bale looked sure to make it 2-0 to City, when his free kick came off the crossbar, and into the hands of Sirthrynk’s Kosloy, who swiftly booted it towards Gradov. The home crowd went wild as Gradov ensured the points were split.

Speaking after the match, Bale, 30, stated: “Today was a really tough match, against really good opposition. They frustrated our attack numerous times, and were really good on the counter. I do feel that we were hard done by at times, as we created numerous chances that would have gone in on any other day. The referee missed a couple of important calls – I’m convinced I was fouled in the penalty box, but that’s the game for you. I was really pleased to score on my debut for the club, and hope it convinces the manager to play me next week as well. Next week we play AFC Imia who are a very similar team. They seem to frustrate the opposition and catch you on the counter, so we’ll need to be extra prepared for that. They’ve attained three straight draws, which is rather impressive when you consider it, and clearly pose a threat up front. We’ll have to be at our best to win the match.”

City’s manager, Racok Perkins, stated: “In many ways, todays result feels more like a loss than a draw. We had some really good opportunities that we squandered in the final third, and Sirthrynk only really posed a threat on the counter. But this is the third time we’ve drawn this season, and it is costing us valuable points. There is little point in scoring if you’re not also defending. We’ve dropped 6 points out of 9 available due to these draws, and it’s only thanks to last weeks close victory that we’re not in the second half of the table. We had a similar issue in the last league. We lost only 1 game in the entire league, but drawing half of them really had an adverse effect on the team, and ultimately ended up costing us the championship. We can’t do the same again! We must start capitalising on our goal scoring opportunities, and keeping clean sheets. It was great to see Bale score on his debut for the club, but we must do more in the defensive and final thirds.

Next week, Asgar City play at home to AFC Imia. Our predicted formation is a 4-3-3, with the following squad:
GK: Elvor Dasquin (1)
LB: Asogo Draha (2)
CB: Hosa Gavia (3)
CB: Tiberius Carius Herenus (12)
RB: Ekna Andronan (5)
LM: Zavia Paychill (6)
CM: Qua Noi Porkia (8)
RM: Jikoa Lerrel (16)
LW: Ferdina O’Palva (9)
CF: Mal Yela (10)
RW: Gareth Bale (19)
Subs: Dakka El Cora (GK, 13), Cossus Gavius Commodus (RB, 21), Yasgo Puntun (CM, 7), Yona Olwarnan (CM, 15), Hinca Trinkos (RM, 17), Wilfi Berna (RW, 11), Perca Ricars (RW, 22.

Currents odds are: 4/1 City win, 1/1 Draw, 6/1 AFC Imia win.

You turn on your television set to see a brightly lit studio setting. The back wall contains a large monitor centered in a wood-paneled wall, flanked with 3 smaller monitors on either side. The main monitor displays the logo of the show and the smaller monitors are showing clips of different sporting events. At a long, curved table in front of the sets, sits a young, slim, Natufian with olive-toned skin, dressed in a dark blue suit, black hair slicked back and a white, beaming smile. To his side sits a balding, middle-aged, heavier-set and darker skinned Natufian, dressed in a cheaper suit, looking poised but somewhat uncomortable, a little out of his element.

Razam Bakar: Good evening, and welcome to Natufian Sports Alliance, bringing you news and analysis from all the great sports in the Commonwealth. I am your host, Razam Bakar. Tonight, we are pleased to have with us General Manager of the New Jericho Athletic Club football team, Maret el-Nasir. Maret, its great to have you with us on the show.

Maret el-Nasir: It's a pleasure to be here.

Razam: So, New Jericho is playing, for the first time, in the Charter Championship League. Standing at #5 after 4 matches played and with 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss, how do you feel about the team's performance so far?

Maret: Well, I have to say, we are very happy with the momentum we have right now. We certainly struggled in the first two matches, but we were playing some very seasoned opponents. Both the Roman Iuventus and the Asgarthian Olwar City clubs are exceptional. Olwar City has been the benchmark for football greatness for years. And what young Natufian footballer doesn't dream of playing for Iuventus; or AS Roma for that matter?

Razam: But then you played both the Skjoldurian teams consecutively and won both. How did you turn things around?

Maret: *chuckles*, well, both Rosskille City and Skajafjoror United are fierce opponents, both very strong teams. In a sense we got lucky, right place at the right time. We knew Rosskille was struggling to reach their potential and took advantage of that. Skajalfjoror was a tougher match. Their defenders were like a brick wall. If it wasn't for the foul by Lucas Radebe that allowed the penalty kick by our Ustan Kirac, the only goal scored, that would probably have been a draw, at best.

Razam: So what did you do differently to play the Skjoldurian teams?

Maret: Well, *sighs slightly*, part of it was the boys just digging a little deeper to elevate their game. Morale was low after the loss to Olwar City. But some fault also lies with the coaching staff...and myself. We played those first two matches very staticly. Starting with Rosskille, we began really paying attention to our opponets playing style and adjusting our strategy and drills.

Razam: Next week, New Jericho is hosting Imperial Light. Will you need to adjust your approach for that match?

Maret: *laughs out loud*. Oh yes, most definitely! The Heartfilian and Skjoldurian teams have very, very differnet playing styles. The Heartfilians are very fast, very nimble, and seem to just dance their way down the field. Watching them play is like watching art in motion.

Razam: Do you think Imperial Light will be an easier opponent? They have been languishing in the bottom ranks of the standings, after all.

Maret: No, not at all! The Swans may be Heartfilia's premier club, but it would be a mistake to underestimate the Light. They have very good talent, they have suffered some injuries but are now almost back to full health and most importantly, this is a team hungry for a victory. And Larry Sullyvan is very charasmatic; a really exceptional manager, able to motivate his team. No, I expect this to be no less a challenge than any other match we've played so far.

Razam: So how will New Jericho win?

Maret: Well, you know, we have to be prepared and play our best. We will certainly be adapting our play and drilling this week to counter the Light's speed and grace.

Razam: How will you do that...without giving away any secrets, of course?! *laughs softly*

Maret: *laughing* Yes, well, the Light...and this also goes for the Swans...play really well when they get into a rythym. We need to work on our defense, try to intercept the ball more, and make unexpected moves, maybe in passing or taking more oblique shots on the goal. This is a match where penalties and going out of bounds can be our friend. Bascially we need to break up their rythym. If we can do that, we can win. If we let the Light contol the pace of the match, we'll lose. I think it comes down to that.

Razam: Thanks so much for your time with us, Maret. Good luck and to all our viewers, you can watch the match against the Imperial Light live on this station if you are unfortunate enough not to be in the stadium in what will certainly be a sell-out crowd. If you are fortunate enough to be at Uki Stadium, look for the Natufian Sports Alliance pavillion in the parking lot during your tailgate party before the match! From all of us here at NSA, good night!
