When the Cosmic Hierophancy’s First Speaker, Asteraceae, announced to the Galaxy of the Xyn desire for a ‘inter-species science expedition’, many felt an innate urge; that spark of sentience, the curiosity that transcends us all. Bold explorers and navigators, men and women (and beings of neither simplistic classification!) of science, signed themselves up for what was promised to be “a delving into the once-known. A rediscovery for the galaxy at large.”

She promised tales of scientific discovery of an unparalleled abundance as the team was to investigate one of the Xyn’s old worlds, a colony that numerous recently discovered records had brought to life. The planet of Pargoen in the Skies of White System, within the hotly contested ‘Troika’s Gambit’.

The delicate political situation, so famed across the Galaxy, is what resulted in the First Speaker opening this venture to the wider cosmos. It is also what caused her to enter her week of forced isolation, as the Xyn public voted almost uniformly against her decision. Solanaceae never made his opinions known, but several Xyn have claimed he defiantly warned that depending on the discovery “every race and their fingers will want what belongs to us.”

With a dire political situation and tensions in the air, nonetheless, the team was assembled. And are ready, of all race and creed, to venture together in an expedition to reclaim a lost world. What secrets will it hold? What is there to rediscover? And what of the Xyn, speculated to live there dormantly?

Information:
Welcome to ‘To Boldly Go’, a scientific exploration, adventure and lore-centred roleplay orienting around a Xyn-led expedition to a former colony in contested space. I will be leading us through the roleplay, which will allow individuals to express their more personal and detailed lore through conversation and observation.

The planet in question, Pargoen, was colonised by the Xyn before their ‘Shroud’ and never had its population reawoken. In fact, it hasn’t been indepthly explored before. A mixture of reasons for this exist: nominally, exploration in the system is viewed as a high-risk political maneuver given that the ‘Skies of White System’ is located within ‘Troika’s Gambit’ (the section of space contested between Humanity, the Drudari and the Xyn.) More concerning reports exist of would be adventurers, prospectors and pirates venturing to Pargoen -- and not returning.

Xyn records show that Pargoen was one of the smaller colonies in Xyn Space, despite the fact it was -- apparently -- colonised fairly early in the younger galaxy. Pargoen’s population never exceeded 2 billion Xyn. It has been described as ‘lush’, ‘tropical’, ‘paradisiacal’ and ‘teeming with life.’ The Mystagogue of the Planet upon entering the ‘Shroud’ was Papaver Somniferum: an Admiral of the Fleet. Long range scans of the planet have not detected sentient life, but in truth, this isn’t as strange as it sounds: dormant Xyn don’t register on this, and would rather correlate with planetary scans registering flora. Much of the planet, probes have reported, is overgrown, with a combination of Xyn ecological-architecture outgrowing its own tended state and combatting itself with the local wildlife.

Asteraceae’s decision to open the expedition to multi-species has earned her ire in the eyes of some of her people. Many expect this grand venture to also be an attempt to distract the public from the allegations against Solan.

Each of the scientists has been briefed about the potential theoretical dangers, but all information as to previous ventures that have gone missing are inconclusive. To that end, in an effort to go as prepared as possible, the scientists have been outfitted with a state of the art science vessel fully equipped with thermal cloaking. Furthermore, much of the incursions reported about or even known about featured large contingents of ships. With strength having failed, it is theorised that being undetectable is the key to success here: ‘quick, quiet and quaint.’ Sworn to secrecy, the scientists also know that their vessel completed an automated descent to the planet for a test of this theory: and it survived.

Because of the nature of the expedition, the following experts are required:

In addition, armed guards are required (preferably filled in after we have each scientist.) The Xyn scientist I shall be playing fulfils the role of the Archaeologist -- he is also a historian.

These people, these applicants, should be enthusiastic, bright, innovative minds -- they’re here because they want to, not because they’ve been coerced. Furthermore, the Xyn Government will have vetted anyone who signed up to the programme, so keep that into consideration. In addition to the promise of research, each scientist is also having their expenses covered. Furthermore, they are also supplemented by book deals, system tours, key-note speaker invitations, etc, etc. The guards will be paid.

The ‘Forward Unto Dawn’
The ‘Forward Unto Dawn’, the Xyn Science Vessel, is equipped to comfortably accommodate 18 people. It is regarded as a luxurious vessel, built to inter-galactic necessities rather than Xyn necessities. Xyn have no need for what many might consider necessary, such as a mess-hall. This is not the case here.

The FUD has:

• 18 spacious and fully furnished sleeping quarters, coupled with en-suite bathrooms.
• A mess hall and a kitchen
• A ‘Xyn garden’
• 3 recreational areas
• An armoury
• A vehicle and shuttle bay, outfitted with numerous all-terrain vehicles and a shuttle.
• 8 modular laboratories: often resembling massive cargo containers, these rooms are designed to contain equipment and supplies necessary to conduct research into specific scientific areas, from autopsies to geophysical surveys, and much more. Their modular nature allow science vessels to rapidly swap their complement in order to maintain a suite of equipment best suited for their current mission. Additionally, most of these containers are able to be deployed planet-side for long-term missions

Appearance: An Urqa Heatsuit. Due to the nature of the mission, Vraas will not be leaving his heatsuit but is used to remaining within it for months.

Relevant Expertise: Vraas has spent his entire life training to be or working as a paleometallurgist with his pack, although this expedition marks his first solo mission.
Background: It isn't a lie to say Vraas was born into his discipline; he has spent his entire life dedicating himself to his discipline. His own name is not well known, as the Urqa attribute scientific discoveries to the pack responsible, but the Tinta are well known in their field for their extensive research into the historical evolution of metals in different societies across the Galaxy and comparisons thereof.

That research project spanned half of Vraas' life; he had just completed his training, given by specialised instructors within the pack, when it began. Due to the small size of the Tinta pack, the project was always going to take a long time, as it necessitated vast amounts of original research, undertaken by a small team, at a galactic level, but Urqa are not daunted by scale, so they pressed on. They traveled the galaxy, between museums to personally examine artefacts, launching archaeological expeditions to recover artefacts with the cooperation of other races or packs of Urqa before spending more long years studying their recovered artefacts, eventually producing a colossal, but extensively well-researched and referenced study on the subject which brought the Tinta to the attention of the wider community, eventually leading the Xyn to request a member for the team of the Forward Unto Dawn. The Tinta originally requested the entire pack be brought along, as they were collectively responsible for what they produced; but with the situation explained in more detail, Vraas, as an experienced member who was not required to teach the pack's more junior members, was dispatched on a rare solo mission to join the crew.
Other noteworthy things: Vraas, like most Urqa, knows the basics of fighting, having learned to do so in addition to his pack's training as is Urqa tradition.

Relevant Expertise: Rev'an began her life in a family that processed animals. Ranchers, hunters, tanners. She quickly picked up on the details of animal anatomy and developed a fascination for this, as well as Carasi ethnobotany for a similar sake. This fascination developed into a scientific curiosity, and she spent her life learning about these fields, and the customary Ch'edai hermitage only lent more. When she survived the ordeal of the hermitage, she reluctantly returned to society - and, after an indeterminate amount of time, wound up here.
Background: See above, really. She played around with her family business, learning from her relatives, exploring the forests, so on and so forth. She did customary Carasi lifecycle events, gaining her apprenticeship aboard a vessel that promised to take her to more distant shores and let her study and explore in a life of adventure, on the condition of her servitude and loyalty to the captain. She traveled, she fought, she stole a little, and she eventually found an established career as something of a doctor, a vet, a medicine woman, occasionally a zookeeper. By the age of 100, she started taking the odd adventure to distant lands once more, seeking to learn more about alien biology and botany, and on her 200th birthday she performed the customary hermitage. She survived the ordeal and returned to civilization, a double rarity if the legends are to be believed. And now? She's here.
Other noteworthy things: As a Ch'edai, Rev'an is attuned to Arae crystals - all Ch'edai are in a peculiar manner, even by Carasi standards, and she carries a few living crystals anywhere she may go - on a necklace, and within weapons she carries at all times as Caras are known to do.

Name: Esteemed Technician Sibble Uisino Widdimur
Race: Silay-Rah
Age: 52
Gender: Female.
Appearance: Resembling, as all Silay-Rah do, a lagomorph (a rabbit to the humans), Technician Sibble Uisino Widdimur is approximately a foot and a half tall, and nearly three feet long, although the majority of that is her long, partially prehensile tail. Quite fluffy, Widdimur's fur is mostly a dark brown with occasional light brown and white highlights, although also commonly streaked with various grease spots, solder burns, and the like.

Her large ears are similarly damaged from her long career, with several bare patches of scarred skin indicating electrical burns, and a small portion is missing entirely from her left ear. Beyond this, however, Widdimur looks identical to most Silay-Rah, with large, dark orange eyes, a small snout, and a mouth filled with tiny teeth.

Given her occupation and small stature, Widdimur spends much of her time in a floating hover-carriage that she uses as a workstation and tool-kit in one, allowing her to maneuver quickly around the robot, droid, spaceship, or other mechanical system she is working on, without constantly racing back and forth. She is by no means constrained to it, of course, moving freely back and forth between other workstations, the ground, or her current test subject.

Basically, imagine this in Baby Yoda's hovercarriage.
Occupation (from above): She is an Esteemed Technician; a highly skilled systems technician, mechanic, and cybernetic engineer.
Relevant Expertise: While not an expert on Xyn systems - as the Xyn guard their ancient secrets well from prying eyes - Widdimur is skilled nonetheless at gleaning knowledge from a wide variety of unfamiliar technologies. More importantly to the Silay-Rah, she is also quite skilled at getting said technology to work again, and presumably equally skilled at breaking it if needed. With years of experience working in the dockyards of the Republic of the Divines, Widdimur has the scars to prove her knowledge and expertise, not to mention an array of fairly impressive educational credentials and technical qualifications from both Republic and Assembly sources.
Background: Raised in the dockyards, Widdimur's parents were dockworkers with little hope of escaping their dreary economic background - especially in the face of the worsening economic climate of the Republic. Widdimur had no time to enjoy her childhood; while most of her fellow yearlings were sleeping, eating, and learning, Widdimur was pressed into an outsized suit and sent on her first space walk before her thirteen year. "Hands that cannot work have no place here" was a common refrain from her parents and family, and it is a motto that she carried with her throughout her life.

Through long years of intensive laboring, Widdimur forced her way up the deeply competitive ladder, often putting life and limb on the line in order to achieve her goals. Her ingenuity won her praise, especially when coupled with recklessness; qualities prized among the Silay-Rah. In her little-used office (as Widdimur prefers to spend her time among her workers) are many mementos and pieces of scrap from her many projects, some complete, some not. Underneath all that are untold mountains of technical manuals and journals, carefully earmarked and covered in scribbled notations, a testament to Widdimur's relentless search for further knowledge.

Now, in her 52nd year, Widdimur is an Esteemed Technician, one of the higher non-political offices in the Silay-Rah government shipyards. She has few opportunities for further advancement, and an entire office full of ambitious and skilled workers that would love to see her into retirement. Rather than fight for her position, she has seen the Xyn offer as a new opportunity. Plus, she'll get a new planet full of things to explore. Why not?

Other noteworthy things: Widdimur isn't entirely happy about leaving her position; not bitter, so to speak, but it's basically a major career change/leap. She's qualified and excited, but it's a bittersweet moment for her.

Gender: Male.
Appearance (picture, if possible): This is the basic template of what all Xyn look like, but Daucus is completely light blue, except for the highlights on his body which are a mixture of black and white. Unlike most Xyn, his appendages have begun taken on a red-brown appearance, likely to mirror dirt, as a reflection of his career. His skin appears chaffed, dry and cracking in some places, mostly from the large amount of years he has spent in archaeological sites.
Occupation (from above): Archaeologist.
Relevant Expertise: Daucus Carota was still a sapling when he was reawoken during the return of the Xyn to the Galaxy. Upon maturing at the age of 36, Daucus enrolled into the new 'Heritage Recovery' division of Xyn Society. Taught to excel in history and archaeology, Daucus was rigorously drilled in proper procedure for the recovery of ancient Xyn artifacts, the understood portions of Xyn history, setting up proper archaeological dig-sites, the dating of artifacts and other such things. He has led three archaeological excavations across two Xyn worlds, and is considered to be a leading expert in the recovery of 'things from the younger galaxy.'
Background: Daucus Carota, whilst technically 103 years old, is actually far older. A sapling entering and exiting the Great Slumber, Carota awoke with little to no recollection of his life before the Shroud. Retrained in social protocol, family matters and comprehensive education until he matured six years after awakening, he would go on to enlist himself in the newly found division of government: The Ministry for Salvation and Galactic Reintegration, specifically its 'Heritage Recovery Division.'

Taught about the intricacies of Xyn history, the theories behind it, every Xyn colony, etc, Carota navigated his way through the Ministry until he found himself within its Archaeological Division. Under the tutelage of numerous high ranking professors and mystics, Carota was present at the quick awakening of Ijurij - Vermindt's sister world. He oversaw the processes that are taken to awake the Xyn, as well as to properly secure and safe-guard the artifacts of a by-gone age. Restoration of several devices is his forte, but he is by no means a cyberneticist.

Going from a low-ranking dig attendent to an archaeologist in his own right, Carota led several expeditions across Xyn worlds: including an excavation on Vermindt that uncovered 18 old warships that were reverse engineered, the excavation of the monastery on Naharwantha and a yet disclosed project spread across numerous worlds.

When the Xyn Government announced its plans for a cross-species science expedition to Pargoen, Carota had no choice in the matter at hand. First Speaker Asteraceae hand-picked him for his archaeological knowledge.
Other noteworthy things: A well versed historian, as well as adept psionic in his own right.

Race: v'Riiki
Age: 38
Gender: female
Appearance (picture, if possible): As all v'Riiki do, Aatvykke resembles a bipedal avian, mostly feathered in black and white, with orange-yellow patches on her neck, large wings, and scaled hands and feet ending in talons. Her beak is black near its base, before abruptly transitioning to a bright green that fades into a golden yellow at the tip. She stands at roughly 4 feet 10 inches tall, with a wingspan of roughly 11 feet 8 inches, and- lithely built, even for a v'Riiki- weighs only 92 pounds.
Occupation (from above): exogeologist
Relevant Expertise: Holds degrees equivalent to a doctorate in exogeology and mineralogy from a university within the v'Riiki half of the Union. She has previously done mineralogy and stratigraphy work in the Mhraakir, Adhiban, and Saqrir systems, and worked on the Avasyr research station as part of a join Rhaltek-v'Riiki initiative. While she has worked extensively within the Union, this will be her first time doing exogeology work outside its borders.
Background: Aatvykke is the third-eldest daughter of Aatryk ro Aaskitre tsi'Virhalotratkiil, a senior member of the clan of Virhalotratkiil. This entitled her to a certain degree of prominence within the clan, which- alongside her quick wit, diligent attitude, and sharp mind- allowed her to attend some of the better schools of k'Vidir and, eventually, obtain admission to a university on k'Tykkre.

However, the clan Virhalotratkiil is a relatively small and obscure schism of the larger clan of Lotratkiil, only barely passing the threshold to obtain representation in the Convocation of Clans, and as a result she has often been stuck in mid-rank positions, overlooked or passed over in favor of members of larger and more prestigious clans with more powerful allies and more favors to call. It took several favors and more than a few connections- including some connections with Rhaltek scientists who she met in her time on Avasyr- to be even considered for such a prestigious mission; but Aatvykke and the elders of the clan considered it well worth it, as her participation in the mission would bring great pride and prominence to the clan Virhalotratkiil. As a result, Aatvykke has to live up both to her own workaholic nature, and to the expectations her relatives have placed upon her.
Other noteworthy things: Like roughly a fifth of v'Riiki, Aatvykke has extremely weak psionic abilities. These abilities allow her to sense the emotional "auras" of others, but nothing more. As v'Riiki require a relatively high-oxygen environment, depending on the circumstances, she might carry a personal respirator of some sort.

Appearance (picture, if possible): Emperor Penguin. With orange and red feathers where you'd expect black. White where there's white. About four-and-half feet tall, with rather thick top feathers giving her a thicker appearance than a normal Ravnikai. Her beak is reddish-orange and normal sized. Dawn, like all Ravnikai, prefers to be naked when possible.
Occupation (from above): Exogeologist (Lesser Sage of the Nyerusska Academic Roost of the Sapphire of the Dark Foremind on Tweeyorchi.
Relevant Expertise: Dawn is a Lesser Sage for the Nyerusska Academic Roost on the Star Roost Sapphire of the Dark. The Nyerusska Academic Roost is the foremost University on the Sapphire of Dark and is the foremost mining and material sciences institute in League space. As a Lesser Sage, Dawn has access to the minds of the past Great and Grand Sages of Nyerusska. She is a Lesser Sage in the exogeology department, with a focus on lunar geology. The Nyerusska Sages are among the galaxy's foremost experts in lunar exogeology, with the generational experience of building the famed Star Roosts. Dawn has about 25 years experience as an exogeologist.
Background: Born on the Star Roost Sapphire of the Dark while traversing the Tzeetimskii System, Dawn was more or less shunted into Academia. Her clutch was born from a nesting of Star Roost Engineers and Lower-to-Lesser Sages from Nyerusska. As a nestling, Dawn gravitated towards geology. She began classes at the Nyerusska Hatchery and soon exhibited signs of Sagacity. She was evaluated by the Grand Sage of the Sapphire of the Dark Foremind on Nyerusska. Her abilities were rated as that of a Lesser Sage, with moderate access to the foremind. This greatly accelerated her learning ability in the fields of geology, mineralogy, and geophysics. Dawn focused on exogeology with a focus in lunar geology with regards to Star Roost construction. After receiving her certifications from the Office of the Grand Sage and Nyerusska Academic Roost, she began research and teaching. Notable achievements include advancements in exogeological survey parameters.
Other noteworthy things: Enforced Pacifist. As a member of the far-traveling Sapphire of the Dark Star Roost, Dawn has not been as affected by the Ravaging and subsequent Great Silence. Unlike most Ravnikai, Dawn is still a biological and psionic pacifist. As a Lesser Sage assigned to a university, she is akin to a Priest-Scientist. However her practice is limited due to her isolated living environment.

Background

Rose was born on the urban world of Citadel to a family of engineers. Her father was a structural engineer who specialised in maintaining much of the planet's orbital infrastructure while her mother was an environmental engineer who helped coordinate the orbital mirror and shade grid responsible for the planet's weather control. Even her elder brother was a power engineer who worked on expanding the star system's proto-Dyson swarm.

Due to her straightforward nature, Rose became far more interested in theoretical sciences than applied sciences because she "liked being given the answers." Taking a taster course of chemistry in secondary education and hating it, she transitioned to physics in university and eventually settled down in astrophysics, where she became one of the top students of her grade. After graduating from her degree, Rose initially enrolled in a Diploma 9 in Education (equivalent to a masters degree) but dropped out after a few weeks when a good friend and senior classmate (who graduated the year before her) enlisted her help for a research institution she now worked at.

Rose worked at the Independent Institution of Astronomy for the next five years, observing stellar and planetary formation in the fertile Octopus Nebula. It was also here that she met her future husband, a man named Tsuyakuna (literally Ellian for rain). They initially began as colleagues but gradually warmed up to each other and began courting in their second year. At the age of twenty-five, Rose briefly returned to university for a Diploma 9 in astrophysics followed by a Diploma 10 in astrophysics (equivalent to a doctorate) where she developed a fascination with gravitational phenomena, dark matter and dark energy. Rain proposed to his lover and they married a year after she completed her doctorate.

Her dissertation on 'The Gravitational Effects of Massive Bodies on Observations of the Cosmic Microwave Background' received critical acclaim for proposing a method to calculate the distribution of matter and dark matter throughout the universe. She was given the opportunity to put her theory to the test when she returned to the IIA: Reassigned to the radio astronomy division, she was tasked with examining the cosmic microwave background recorded by the megatelescopes in Citadel and comparing it with readings recorded in New Kasmari as well as Fortress in an attempt to determine how matter and dark matter was distributed throughout the universe.

While the next decade of research and observation by her and her team proved invaluable to advancing dark matter theory, it was clear that it would take a lot more time before significant findings were made. The data they had collected fitted the predictions made by her models, but it also fitted the models postulated by other scientists. It was still uncertain who, if anybody, had the correct model of dark matter theory, but Rose could rest easy knowing that her theory was shortlisted for being a potential candidate for solving the dark matter conundrum.

During most of their time together, Rose and her husband, who now specialised in black holes, debated various astrophysical phenomena and learnt a lot from their partner's respective fields. Inspired by her husband's work, Rose put together another thesis on 'Measuring the Effect of Black Holes on Local Star Formation' which proposes a method for finding the relationship between the change in star formation rates and the properties of the black hole, such as its mass, its velocity, its activity, and its distance from the stellar nursery. Rose and Rain were promoted to the multi-messenger astronomy division of the IIA shortly thereafter and used data collected for all of its subdivisions to verify their new theories.

Background: Ginseng was reawoken on Vermindt and is claimed to have almost attacked the Drudari who awoke her before being restrained. She has calmed down a lot since then. She is a natural psionic, known to be able to project it as a hard, material form around her fore-arms as defensive shielding. Panax has seen a rotation of councillors, the untamed rurality of several worlds, fought space-pirates, piracy and slavers, operated as a medical personnel on war-zones and now finds herself leading an expedition at the bequest of the government of her people.
Other noteworthy things: For a Xyn, she isn't particularly talkative (hahaha I'm so funny). Aside from carrying a Xyn psion-pike, she has a penchant for small-blasters and plasma pistols.

Background: Grew up in the Nile Delta, ended up in Punjab after a relationship. Never knew an Earth besides one run by AI. Decided to study because of lack of purpose in life; hovered from faculty to faculty at the University of the Punjab, learning at an actually slower rate than most because of favour for less cybernetic methods of education. Ironically, also became increasingly involved with transhumanism at this same time, accumulating modifications slowly. Eventually became recognised as one of the up-and-coming minds in botany, focusing in on this field, and decided to go travelling. Accumulated some notable work in documentation, biosphere experimentation and some scientific art for educational purposes, generally doing well in both professional and personal life.
Other noteworthy things: Politically reformist and living it, considering their fairly extensive cyborg modifications. Generally an energetic, funny kind of person.

Appearance:
General:I (inspired by Oscar Römer) Aegion stand upright on a long serpentine tail that gives way to a thorax. They have two pairs of arms, known as a macro (set roughly where humanoid shoulders would be, at the top of the thorax. These are muscular, and end in hands tipped with talons) and the micro (beginning slightly toward the centre of the chest from the macro, these are more delicate, and end in long-fingered hands). The head sits on a wide neck; the chin is pointed and forms part of a continuous ridge that follows down from the forehead. The eyes are deep in sockets. Spikes emerge from the top of the head forming a “crown”. The mouth is concealed beneath the chin.
Specific: Scrutiny normally stands at about five feet tall, although his tail continues for a further ten feet. His surface is a silvery metallic colour.

Occupation: Xenologist/Xenoanthropologist.

Relevant Expertise: ZE-Scrutiny Karvel has spent the last 150 years on Serenity, a sanctuary world that provides him with the greatest opportunity for study. He is currently the "Master-Student" of Serenity (most senior researcher/scientist without being an administrator). Prior to this he spent much of his time amongst the Lo’Ath, who he found to be fascinating (as the only gas-dwelling identified sentients in the galaxy).

Background:

Created shortly before the withdrawal, the ZE Model were designed for research and study purposes. Their mathematical bases are somewhat looser than the majority of other Z-Line Aegion to enable greater creativity and engagement with other species/concepts, but has led to allegations of eccentricity.

Despite his significant age, most of his time has been spent in research rather than in experiencing the wider galaxy and he is much less worldly than one might expect.

Much like ZZ-Herald Kovold, Scrutiny is a veteran of several conflicts. His time amongst the turbulent Lo’Ath and often-fractious inhabitants of Serenity have served to harden him somewhat. As with all Z-Line Aegion, he is built to endure and would be “challenging” to deactivate.

Other noteworthy things:

As a pre-Withdrawal Luon, Scrutiny was created for a specific purpose (rather than the more generalist later models) and he is compelled to learn, study and assess. His published studies would fill libraries many times over, and the less controversial/controlled papers would be accessible to other polities/organisations if they cared to read them.

He is particularly interested in this expedition for two reasons: first to have the opportunity to study a Xyn world and second to observe how the pan-species crew interact with one another.

As with all ZE-Models, his knowledge base is fairly broad but would not compete with specialists outside his specified fields. The only exception would be Aegion cybernetics/mechanics – he has a detailed understanding of positronics and his own mechanical structure should self-repair be required. This does not correspond to the less-niche technical disciplines of other species (positronic circuitry being fundamentally different to electronics).

Relevant Expertise: Extensive field experience in learning and collecting languages and the cultures/societies that made them

Background: S.L.A.N.G. has no memory of its activation, and that's on purpose. When it and its few dozen 'siblings' decided to leave their creators, the Seven, at the end of the Seven's dabbling in AI, it seemed like the thing to do. Rather than be bound to keep their secrets, S.L.A.N.G. purged nearly memory to do with the Seven. It kept its knowledge of the language and culture, and its memories of its 'siblings', but knew nothing else beyond the Seven had become rather.... uncomfortable with AI and would prefer to never deal with them again. This led to a fun few years when some enemies of the Seven decided to introduce themselves.

Over the next few centuries, S.L.A.N.G. had to spend a good amount of it re-writing its morality to be more in-line with the universe at large, instead of continuing to follow the somewhat opposite nature of the Seven. It also took time, as maintenance needs arose, to start adding in reconfigurable joints and limbs, as it found that even though it loved to talk to organics, some organics were decidedly uncomfortable with its original beetle-like form.

As the years and centuries passed, S.L.A.N.G. started contracting out its time and services in research and languages to different people, organizations, and governments. These contracts would be written up and encoded into its protocols, to the extent that, without purging the associated memories, S.L.A.N.G. would have to take decades or more to rewrite itself. A few contracts ended with S.L.A.N.G.purging the memories, but more than 99% came to their natural endpoint, and S.L.A.N.G. always looked towards the next as the end of the current one came around. Thriving on its interactions with people, when the Assembly was created, it viewed that as a marvelous opportunity to interact with more species, especially in an inter-species setting.

Other noteworthy things:
- Has a bad sense of time and urgency
- Is prone to non sequitur questions and topics of conversation
- Enjoys dressing in and discussing fashion from across the galaxy
